Abstract

This paper includes part of the strategies used to solve a scheduling problem developed for a company that produces flexible packaging, presented in a quite general form though. In this problem it is necessary to schedule several jobs that involve four process and for each one of them there is a group of machines available (of similar characteristics). Each activity is performed on just one machine. Besides, for our application, the scheduling must try to verify certain conditions. For each process (and consequently for all the activities that perform this process) there is a list of attributes. The problem is not only to assign each activity to a starting time and to a specific machine, but also to try to verify conditions that depend on the values of the attributes of the activities. Moreover, there are criteria to choose a particular machine. An approach to solve this problem was presented first in [1]. As mentioned there, some due dates could not be fulfilled on time. An approach to decrease the quantity of due dates violations was presented in [2 . This approach generates acceptable results for most of the cases in the real application. However, there were some cases in which the Algorithm did not work properly. The present work includes an Algorithm that improves the results generated in [2 ]for some special cases that arose in the real application.

Abstract

The SARS-CoV-2 global pandemic will disproportionately impact countries with weak economies and vulnerable populations including people with dementia. Latin American and Caribbean countries (LACs) are burdened with unstable economic development, fragile health systems, massive economic disparities, and a high prevalence of dementia. Here, we underscore the selective impact of SARS-CoV-2 on dementia among LACs, the specific strain on health systems devoted to dementia, and the subsequent effect of increasing inequalities among those with dementia in the region. Implementation of best practices for mitigation and containment faces particularly steep challenges in LACs. Based upon our consideration of these issues, we urgently call for a coordinated action plan, including the development of inexpensive mass testing and multilevel regional coordination for dementia care and related actions. Brain health diplomacy should lead to a shared and escalated response across the region, coordinating leadership, and triangulation between governments and international multilateral networks. 3. A CMT-based modeling language for courseware design

Abstract

This paper presents a language for courseware design that tries to overcome usability limitations shown by the Course Modeling Technique (CMT). The proposed language is able to deal with the key aspects of courseware design: objectives, contents, and instructional path. Given that its potential users are non-technical, the representation of the language is close to natural language. For its design, an emperical experimentation was made comparing its expressivity power regard to CMT. The results showed that the proposed language is more expressive and avoids some ambiguities that appears when CMT is used. Finally, the designers who participate in the tests, think that the new language is better than CMT in terms of effort required to use it.

Abstract

It is clearly desirable that logical specifications and the programs that implement them should be as close as possible. Such a claim is often made in support of the logic programming paradigm. However, SLD-resolution, the basic procedural semantics for logic programming, is only defined for programs whose statements are Horn clauses. Most research for extending the Horn clause framework has been concerned with allowing negative literals in the bodies of the statements where SLD-resolution is extended with negation-as-failure. However, one of the main components of first order logic not allowed in clauses is (explicit) quantification. This paper addresses this problem by showing how SLD-resolution can be extended to allow for universally quantified implication formulas as conjuncts in the body of the statements. It will be shown that this technique includes negation-as-failure as a degenerate case.
