Introdução: O futsal é uma modalidade esportiva que vem se expandindo constantemente e é praticado em mais de 120 países, seja ele no âmbito de rendimento, educacional ou de lazer. O futsal é uma modalidade de forte marcação, passes rápidos, frequentes situações de superioridade/inferioridade e igualdade numérica e incessante movimentação com e sem a posse de bola. Objetivo: o objetivo do estudo foi verificar e analisar os efeitos de 36 sessões do protocolo HIIT Tabata no consumo máximo de oxigênio em jogadores de futsal. Materiais e Métodos: A amostra foi de 61 jogadores de futsal do sexo masculino, com idade entre 15 e 35 anos, divididos sub-20 e adultos com grupo controle (n=16) e intervenção (n=45). Foram incluídos na pesquisa os indivíduos jogadores de futsal a no mínimo 6 meses, e frequentando os treinos da equipe e que tinham idade entre 15 e 35 anos. Os indivíduos realizaram o protocolo HIIT Tabata (20:10) durante 4 minutos com frequência de três vezes semanal durante 12 semanas. Análise estatística: Dados descritivos média e desvio padrão foram utilizados, assim com teste de Shapiro-wilk foi utilizado para normalidade dos dados, ANOVA fatorial mista foi utilizada para estatística inferencial. Resultados e discussão: Houve ganhos significativos no VO2máx dos indivíduos das categorias sub-20 (p=0,00) e adulta (p=0,05) do grupo intervenção, não houve resultados significativos no VO2máx para ambas as categorias do grupo controle. Conclusão: Os resultados indicam que as 36 sessões de treinamento do protocolo HIIT Tabata, foram capazes de melhorar o consumo máximo de oxigênio em jogadores de futsal.

Calculation of the calving loss of tidewater glaciers depends on accurate bedrock information. In regional to global-scale projections of future tidewater glacier evolution this dependence is problematic. Bedrock topographies are often unknown and can only be modelled from surface properties. Existing approaches, however, mostly underestimate the ice thickness towards the calving fronts of marine-terminating glaciers. This implies a compromised performance of global-scale projection models which often employ functions of water depth at the calving fronts of tidewater glaciers. Here, we present a sensitivity study that analyses the impact of five different bedrock datasets on projected mass losses from the tidewater glacier Hansbreen in southern Svalbard. Our modelling study calculates the glacier's response to artificial mass-balance forcing. We show that bedrock inaccuracies may lead to a substantially deviating retreat behaviour. The common underestimation of frontal ice thickness/water depth in the modelled bedrock datasets induces an underestimation of sea level-relevant mass losses over the first several decades of modelling. The duration of this period is reduced when assuming warmer climates. Our results thus underline the importance of accurate bedrock topography data for the reliability of glacier evolution projections and for the accuracy of the temporal trajectories of related sea level-relevant mass losses.

The Antarctic Peninsula Ice Sheet (APIS) has become a significant contributor to sea-level rise over recent decades. Accurately estimating the ice discharge from the outlet glaciers of the APIS is crucial to quantify the mass balance of the Antarctic Peninsula. We here compute the ice discharge from the outlet glaciers of the APIS north of 70${^\circ }$S for the five most widely used ice-thickness reconstructions, using a common surface velocity field and a common set of flux gates, so the differences in ice discharge can be solely attributed to the differences in ice thickness at the flux gates. The total volumetric ice discharge for 2015–2017 ranges within 45–141 km3 a−1, depending on the ice-thickness model, with a mean of 87 ± 44 km3 a−1. The substantial differences between the ice-discharge results, and a multi-model normalized root-mean-squared deviation of 0.91 for the whole data set, reveal large differences and inconsistencies between the ice-thickness models, giving an indication of the large uncertainty in the current ice-discharge estimates for the APIS. This manifests a fundamental problem of the region: the scarcity of appropriate ice-thickness measurements and the difficulty of the current models to reconstruct the ice-thickness distribution in this complex region.

Introdução: O esporte de rendimento expõe seus praticantes a situações de cargas comportamentais estressoras que podem vir a influenciar na tomada de decisão, refletindo no sucesso ou redução no desempenho. Objetivo: objetivamos analisar a ansiedade pré-competitiva em jogadoras de rendimento de futsal categoria adulto em dois jogos. Materiais e Métodos: Tratou-se de uma amostra por conveniência, de 9 jogadoras de clube de futsal, categoria adulto, com faixa etária em anos de 24 ±4,86, estas foram submetidas a avaliação antropométrica realizada em período de treinamento, aplicação do questionário de ansiedade pré-competitiva (CSAI-2), 30 minutos antecedentes as partidas. Resultados: Identificou-se que 80% da amostra estava com escores de ansiedade cognitiva médio em situação de jogo 1 (19,44 pontos) e 60% no jogo 2 (19 pontos), ansiedade somática média de 100% para jogo 1 (23 pontos) e 100% jogo 2 (22 pontos) e autoconfiança média 40% para jogo 1 (27,33 pontos) e 60% para jogo 2 (26,5 pontos). Conclusão: As jogadoras de futsal apresentam escore de ansiedade médio em suas 3 componentes comportamentais: ansiedade cognitiva, ansiedade somática e autoconfiança.

Introdução: O futsal apresenta como modalidade coletiva, com características dinâmicas e intermitente, envolvendo habilidades técnicas e táticas com características ofensivas e defensivas, um procedimento de avaliação é a análise de desempenho que se caracteriza como um instrumento de avaliação confiável, podendo ser utilizado para quantificar as habilidades envolvidas da modalidade futsal. Objetivo: Descrever a incidências de gols em razão da ação tática, setor e período durante competição maranhense de futsal feminino. Materiais e métodos: Utilizou-se o método de análise de desempenho por vídeo, durante 3 jogos em uma competição estadual feminina. Conclusão: Mediante análise de desempenho os gols efetivados tiveram em sua origem uma superioridade da ação de ataque posicional, com maiores incidências de linhas curta e localização do centro, sendo realizados no 1°tempo da partida.

Introdução: As doenças cardiovasculares e o câncer são as principais causas de mortes nos países em desenvolvimento. No Brasil, até 2022, são esperados 66.280 novos casos de câncer de mama. Com os avanços no tratamento da doença houve aumento da sobrevida. Porém, o tratamento provoca efeitos prejudiciais sobre o quadro clínico dessas pacientes. Assim o exercício físico é apontado como estratégia para minimizar esses efeitos. Objetivo: Realizar uma revisão narrativa na literatura científica para identificar os efeitos do exercício físico sobre a modulação autonômica cardíaca e ângulo de fase de mulheres com câncer de mama. Materiais e Métodos: Foi realizado uma busca nas bases de dados Lilacs e Portal de Periódicos Capes; foram selecionados sete artigos para a revisão. Resultados e Discussão: Programas de exercícios supervisionados e não supervisionados, aeróbicos, resistidos, de flexibilidade e equilíbrio, são eficazes para a melhora da aptidão física, diminuição da fadiga e melhora de aspectos psicossociais em pacientes com câncer de mama em tratamento. Não encontramos estudos que abordassem os efeitos do exercício físico sobre o ângulo de fase e modulação autonômica cardíaca de pacientes com câncer de mama em tratamento. Conclusão: O exercício físico mostra-se como uma alternativa não farmacológica eficaz sobre os aspectos clínicos de mulheres com câncer de mama em tratamento. Uma abordagem da avaliação da variabilidade da frequência cardíaca e da composição corporal, por meio da bioimpedância elétrica, parecem ser substanciais para o melhor acompanhamento e cuidado dessas pacientes. Faz-se necessário pesquisas sobre os efeitos do exercício físico sobre o ângulo de fase e modulação autonômica de mulheres com câncer de mama, para investigar se o exercício pode minimizar os efeitos deletérios causados pelo tratamento da doença.

Objetivo: correlacionar os passes, finalizações, consumo de oxigênio máximo das jogadoras da equipe feminina de futsal de rendimento. Materiais e Métodos: A amostra foi de 10 jogadoras de futsal da categoria adulta, com idade em anos de média 26,50 ±4,70, e massa corporal em kg de 54,83 ±8,51. Foram avaliados a capacidade fisiológica durante período de treinamento e habilidades técnicas durante período competitivo em 3 jogos. O consumo de oxigênio máximo foi mensurado através do teste incremental progressivo submáximo. Já as habilidades passes e finalizações por análise de desempenho via vídeo. Resultados e discussão: O consumo de oxigênio médio foi de 51,41 ±3,53 (ml.kg.min). Sendo possível observar correlações fracas e moderadas entre as variáveis habilidades e capacidades; VO2 e passe certo no jogo 1 (p=0,00 e r=0,08); VO2 e passe certo no jogo 2 (p=0,00 e r= -0,06); VO2 e passe certo no jogo 3 (p=0,00 e r=0,32); VO2 e passe errado no jogo 1 (p=0,00 e r= -0,00); VO2 e passe errado no jogo 2 (p=0,00 e r=0,19); VO2 e passe errado no jogo 3 (p= 0,00 e r= 0,49); VO2 e finalização certa no jogo 1 (p=0,00 e r= 0,00); VO2 e finalização certa no jogo 2 (p=0,00 e r=0,38); VO2 e finalização certa no jogo 3 (p=0,00 e r=0,00); VO2 e finalização errada no jogo 1 (p=0,00 e r= 0,13); VO2 e finalização errada no jogo 2 (p=0,00 e r=0,15); VO2 e passe errado no jogo 3 (p=0,00 e r=0,42); os achados dos valores do consumo de oxigênio máximo estão abaixo para jogadores de futsal de alto rendimento. Conclusão: As habilidades técnicas passes e finalizações parecem ser influenciadas pela capacidade fisiológica consumo de oxigênio máximo. Embora as correlações sejam fracas o estudo insere um procedimento de análise no futsal feminino.

Introdução: O futsal apresenta tarefas complexas durante o jogo, exigindo do atleta bom desempenho cognitivo, físico e fisiológico para tomada de decisão, onde os padrões do sono garantem melhorias visto que, está relacionado com a restauração e prontidão para uma boa ação no jogo. Objetivo: Avaliar e correlacionar o padrão de sono das jogadoras da equipe feminina de futsal de rendimento. Materiais e Métodos: A amostra de conveniência de 10 jogadoras de futsal da categoria adulta, com idade média em anos de 26,50 ±4,70 e massa corporal em kg de 54,83 ±8,51; para verificação dos padrões de sono foram utilizados os instrumentos: MEQ-SA para cronotipo, ESS-BR para sonolência excessiva diurna no período de treinamento e PSQI-BR para qualidade subjetiva do sono pós-competição via Google Forms. Resultados: Foi observado correlações entre o cronotipo e sonolência (p=0,00 e r= -0,19), cronotipo e escore de qualidade subjetiva de sono (p=0,00 e r=0,04), sonolência e escore de qualidade de sono (p=0,06 e r=0,19). Discussão: nos achados se observa um padrão de sono ruim, desse modo, cabendo estratégias para uma higiene do sono com finalidade de poder otimizar a performance. Conclusão: As variáveis do sono apresentam, quanto pior qualidade de sono, maior pode ser, a vulnerabilidade de transtorno do sono relacionado a sonolência.

The aim of this work is to provide a full description of how air temperature and solar radiation induce changes in the land cover over an Antarctic site. We use shortwave broadband albedo (albedo integrated in the range 300–3000 nm) from a spaceborne sensor and from field surveys to calculate the monthly relative abundance of landscape units. Field albedo data were collected in January 2019 using a portable albedometer over seven landscape units: clean fresh snow; clean old snow; rugged landscape composed of dirty snow with disperse pyroclasts and rocky outcrops; dirty snow; stripes of bare soil and snow; shallow snow with small bare soil patches; and bare soil. The MODIS MCD43A3 daily albedo products were downloaded using the Google Earth Engine API from the 2000–2001 season to the 2020–2021 season. Each landscape unit was characterized by an albedo normal distribution. The monthly relative abundances of the landscape units were calculated by fitting a linear combination of the normal distributions to a histogram of the MODIS monthly mean albedo. The monthly relative abundance of the landscape unit consisting of rugged landscape composed of dirty snow with dispersed clasts and small rocky outcrops exhibits a high positive linear correlation with the monthly mean albedo (R2 = 0.87) and a high negative linear correlation with the monthly mean air temperature (R2 = 0.69). The increase in the solar radiation energy flux from September to December coincides with the decrease in the relative abundance of the landscape unit composed of dirty snow with dispersed clasts and small rocky outcrops. We propose a mechanism to describe the evolution of the landscape: uncovered pyroclasts act as melting centers favoring the melting of surrounding snow. Ash does not play a decisive role in the melting of the snow. The results also explain the observed decrease in the thaw depth of the permafrost on the island in the period 2006–2014, resulting from an increase in the snow cover over the whole island.

Background: This study aimed to validate the role of the D-dimer to lymphocyte ratio (DLR) for mortality prediction in a large national cohort of hospitalized coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. Methods: A retrospective, multicenter, observational study that included hospitalized patients due to SARS-CoV-2 infection in Spain was conducted from March 2020 to March 2022. All biomarkers and laboratory indices analyzed were measured once at admission. Results: A total of 10,575 COVID-19 patients were included in this study. The mean age of participants was 66.9 (±16) years, and 58.6% (6202 patients) of them were male. The overall mortality rate was 16.3% (n = 1726 patients). Intensive care unit admission was needed in 10.5% (n = 1106 patients), non-invasive mechanical ventilation was required in 8.8% (n = 923 patients), and orotracheal intubation was required in 7.5% (789 patients). DLR presented a c-statistic of 0.69 (95% CI, 0.68–0.71) for in-hospital mortality with an optimal cut-off above 1. Multivariate analysis showed an independent association for in-hospital mortality for DLR > 1 (adjusted OR 2.09, 95% CI 1.09–4.04; p = 0.03); in the same way, survival analysis showed a higher mortality risk for DLR > 1 (HR 2.24; 95% CI 2.03–2.47; p < 0.01). Further, no other laboratory indices showed an independent association for mortality in multivariate analysis. Conclusions: This study confirmed the usefulness of DLR as a prognostic biomarker for mortality associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection, being an accessible, cost-effective, and easy-to-use biomarker in daily clinical practice.

To verify the effect of supplementation of different doses of Whey Proteins for 12 weeks on the gene expression of MTOR, MURF-1, MAFBX and on the alteration of the cellular diameter of the gastrocnemius muscle. Sample: 38 Wistar rats and supplemented for 12 weeks. The white portion of the right gastrocnemius muscle was embedded in Rna Latter solution and stored at -80 ° C and subjected to real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis. The left gastrocnemius muscle was intended for histological analysis. Gene expression of MTOR mRNA had lower statistical significance in the groups of Whey 2, Whey 4, Whey 6 than in the control group, in the order of 100%, 97%, 96%, respectively. Likewise, the gene expression of MURF-1 mRNA had lower statistical significance in the groups of Whey 2, Whey 4, Whey 6 than the control group, in the order of 65%, 75%, 84%, respectively. In line, the gene expression MAFBX mRNA had lower statistical significance in the groups Whey 2, Whey 4, Whey 6 in relation to the control group, in the order of 99%, 97%, 99%, respectively. There was no statistical difference in the cellular area of the gastrocnemius muscle between the groups. Therefore, supplementation of Whey Proteins at doses of 2, 4, 6 g / kg / day for 12 weeks in sedentary animals was not able to increase the gene expression of MTOR mRNA, however, it was able to reduce the gene expression of MURF -1 mRNA, MAFBX mRNA.

Introdução: O Krav Maga é atualmente o método de luta israelense praticado em mais de 120 países e pesquisas relacionadas aos aspectos fisiológicos do seu treinamento ainda são escassas. Objetivo: investigar o nível da ansiedade competitiva e a qualidade do sono, provocados pela aplicação de um programa de treinamento físico específico da modalidade. Materiais e Métodos: participaram do estudo 30 homens adultos, (15 iniciantes e 15 veteranos), com idade entre 18 e 60 anos. Os participantes responderam a dois questionários semiestruturados: um sobre Estado de Ansiedade Competitiva (CSAI-2) e outro Índice de Qualidade do Sono de Pittsburgh (PSQI) e foram submetidos ao protocolo de treinamento físico por um período de 16 semanas, os dados foram coletados nas semanas (S1, S8 e S16, respectivamente). Resultados: houve diferença significante para as três subescalas do instrumento ansiedade competitiva, com diminuição da pontuação para a subescalas cognitiva e somática, e aumento da pontuação na subescala autoconfiança. Foi observado um predomínio de uma qualidade ruim do sono em ambos os grupos, principalmente nas duas primeiras avaliações. No transcorrer do protocolo verificou-se uma aproximação em média e desvio padrão também, para uma boa qualidade do sono. Conclusão: o programa de treinamento experimental aplicado por 16 semanas, reduziu os níveis de ansiedade e melhorou a percepção subjetiva de sono nos participantes da pesquisa tanto para os veteranos quanto os iniciantes.

Aim: Systematic review and meta-analysis about the effects of endurance training and Whey Protein supplementation on the gene expression of MTOR, MURF-1, MAFBX. Materials and methods: To this systematic review was used the concepts of systematic review and meta-analysis proposed by Thomas, Nelson, Silverman (2012), and Berwanger et al., (2007), and the search followed procedures proposed by Navarro and Navarro (2012), and for the criteria of evaluation of the technical and scientific quality of the texts was used the scale proposed by Galna et al., (2009). Results and discursion: From 724 eligible studies, the sample was 4 original articles where we inferred that the models of endurance training adopted in the experiments, are, the following: Jump in liquid environment, motorized treadmill, and, in squatting apparatus for electric stimulation in the base and that in terms of experimental study in relation to the dose of the supplement, the prescribed was recommended by manuals; and about the gene expression of MTOR, MURF-1, MAFBX, although had been verified it does not occurred due the endurance training and the Whey Protein supplementation and, therefore, absent. Conclusion: In terms of experimentation, it’s not found studies enough to compose the adequate procedure for a meta-analysis, even after a systematic review about the effects of endurance training and Whey Protein supplementation on the gene expression of MTOR, protein synthesis and the gene expression of MURF-1, MAFBx of protein degradation in wistar rats.

Introdução: A Doença Renal Crônica (DRC) é caracterizada pela perda progressiva da função renal, com ou sem alterações morfológicas dos rins. A hipertensão é um potencial fator de risco para o surgimento e agravamento da doença e esta tem ganhado atenção de pesquisadores e especialistas devido aumento de eventos cardiovasculares adversos durante o tratamento. Objetivo: este trabalho tem como objetivo realizar uma revisão narrativa sobre os efeitos do treinamento resistido e do treinamento aeróbio sobre a hipertensão de pacientes renais crônicos Intradialíticos. Materiais e Métodos: Os termos (("Chronic Kidney Disease") AND (Hypertension)) AND (("Aerobic Training") OR ("Resistance Training")) foram buscados nas bases do PUBMED e Web of Science. Apenas artigos originais, com humanos doentes renais crônicos, com hipertensão, submetidos ao exercício físico formam aceitos. Resultados: 20 artigos foram encontrados, contudo, 17 foram excluídos pelos critérios de exclusão e 3 foram considerados elegíveis. Os estudos eleitos fornecem dados de 286 pacientes. Discussão: Há uma variedade de estudos que comprovam os benefícios do exercício físico para a saúde de uma população geral e há pouca evidência sobre o papel do exercício sobre a hipertensão de pacientes com DRC, mas os concordam entre si que manter-se fisicamente ativo mesmo com o diagnóstico da doença auxilia positivamente no tratamento diminuindo a taxa de mortalidade e morbidade, melhorando a capacidade cardiovascular dentre outros. Conclusão: a prática de exercícios aeróbicos e de resistência em pacientes renais crônicos hipertensos auxilia no controle agudo da pressão arterial.

Introduction: Whey proteins have received great attention because of their benefits on skeletal muscle hypertrophy, body fat reduction, performance, appetite regulation, immune system regulation, regulation of the lipid profile and the combat against metabolic stress. In this sense, their importance is often overestimated, leading athletes and physical activity individuals to consume very high doses of protein, without the guarantee of additional benefits. Aim: For 12 weeks quantify the evolution of food intake and total body mass of Wistar rats supplemented with whey proteins with dosages of 2, 4, 6g/kg/day. Materials and methods: Approval protocol of the Ethics Committee on the Use of Animals of the Federal University of Maranhão nº 23115.014424 / 2015-54). An experimental research design was adopted with the rats being randomly distributed in 4 groups: Control Group (C), Supplemented groups (W2, W4, W6); the study was performed with 38 male Rattus novergicus Wistar rats with initial age of 60 days and body mass between 218 and 323 grams; supplementation with whey proteins dissolved in water followed the dosages 2, 4 and 6 g / kg / day supplementation was performed for 12 weeks, daily, three times a day, by volume of 5 ml, with an hour interval between each gavage. Variables were tested for distribution using the Shapiro-Wilk test (P> 0.05). The data of the feed consumption were analyzed by the ANOVA test; the classification variable was the interaction between feed consumption or body mass and supplementation (C, W2, W4, W6); the Tukey post-test was used to determine the statistical differences between the groups (C, W2, W4, W6), GraphPad Prism 7 software was used. Results: The mean intake of rations in the control group did not present a statistically significant difference in relation to the Whey 4 group at weeks 1 (p=0,3450), 2 (p=0,1027), 3 (p=0,1595), 4 (p=0,5572) and 5 (p=0,2539). There was a statistically significant difference in the increase of the total body mass of the control group compared to the Whey 4 group at weeks 10 (p=0,0454), 12 (p=0,0348) and at the final week (p=0,0138). Likewise, there was a significant statistical difference in the increase of the total body mass of the control group compared to the Whey group 6 in the final week (p=0,0048). In the same sense, there was a statistically significant difference in the total body mass increase of the Whey 2 group compared to the Whey 6 group in weeks 1 (p=0,0210), 2 (p=0,0434) and in the final week (p=0,0289). Discussion: Diets with high protein content play an important role in satiety due to its involvement with intestinal production of several anorectic hormones, which in turn stimulate the vagus nerve, promoting neuronal stimuli to the solitary tract nucleus, signaling satiety. As a result, the long-term ingestion of a high-protein diet reduces not only food intake, but also body mass and body adiposity in rats. Conclusion: Supplementation with serum whey proteins at doses of 4 and 6 g/kg/day in sedentary animals conferred stability over total body weight and a significant reduction in feed intake over 12 weeks. Supplementation with serum whey proteins at 2 g/kg/day in sedentary animals did not lead to a reduction in the average feed intake and showed a similar effect to the other doses on total body weight.

As glaciers terminate into the ocean, mass is lost through frontal ablation where the ice meets the ocean. Here the authors estimate decadal frontal ablation from 2000 to 2020 of 1496 glaciers in the Northern Hemisphere, and find that frontal ablation makes up 79% of ice discharge to the ocean.

Knowledge of frontal ablation from marine-terminating glaciers (i.e., mass lost at the calving face) is critical for constraining glacier mass balance, improving projections of mass change, and identifying the processes that govern frontal mass loss. Here, we discuss the challenges involved in computing frontal ablation and the unique issues pertaining to both glaciers and ice sheets. Frontal ablation estimates require numerous datasets, including glacier terminus area change, thickness, surface velocity, density, and climatic mass balance. Observations and models of these variables have improved over the past decade, but significant gaps and regional discrepancies remain, and better quantification of temporal variability in frontal ablation is needed. Despite major advances in satellite-derived large-scale datasets, large uncertainties remain with respect to ice thickness, depth-averaged velocities, and the bulk density of glacier ice close to calving termini or grounding lines. We suggest ways in which we can move toward globally complete frontal ablation estimates, highlighting areas where we need improved datasets and increased collaboration.

During the second half of the 20th century, the Antarctic Peninsula region has undergone a long and sustained warming period, followed by a shorter but also sustained cooling period, and then a very recent return to warming conditions. All of these have profoundly impacted the glaciers peripheral to the Antarctic Peninsula. This paper focuses on the analysis of the surface mass balance monitoring of such glaciers by the glaciological method, complemented by the analysis of mass-balance estimates by geodetic methods, as well as frontal ablation estimates. We aim to summarize the current knowledge and outline the main challenges faced by investigating the mass balance of such peripheral glaciers and their current contribution to sea-level rise.

Securing medical imaging poses a significant challenge in preserving the confidentiality of healthcare data. Numerous research efforts have focused on fortifying these images, with encryption emerging as a primary solution for maintaining data integrity without compromising confidentiality. However, applying conventional encryption techniques directly to e-health data encounters hurdles, including limitations in data size, redundancy, and capacity, particularly in open-channel patient data transmissions. As a result, the unique characteristics of images, marked by their risk of data loss and the need for confidentiality, make preserving the privacy of data contents a complex task. This underscores the pressing need for innovative approaches to ensure the security and confidentiality of sensitive healthcare information within medical images. The proposed algorithm outperforms referenced algorithms in both image fidelity and steganographic capacity across diverse medical imaging modalities. It consistently achieves higher Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) values, indicating superior image fidelity, reduced noise, and preserved signal quality in CT, MRI, ultrasound, and X-ray modalities. The experimental results demonstrate a considerable improvement in both the Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) and maximum embedding capacity. Specifically, the average PSNR value for the X-ray modality reached a notable 73 dB, signifying superior image quality. Moreover, the CT modality exhibited the highest maximum embedding capacity, measured at 0.52, showcasing its efficiency in accommodating data within the images. Moreover, the algorithm consistently offers increased steganographic data hiding capacity in these images without perceptibly degrading their quality or integrity.

RNA pol II assembly occurs in the cytoplasm before translocation of the enzyme to the nucleus. Affecting this assembly influences mRNA transcription in the nucleus and mRNA decay in the cytoplasm. However, very little is known about the consequences on ncRNA synthesis. In this work, we show that impairment of RNA pol II assembly leads to a decrease in cryptic non-coding RNAs (preferentially CUTs and SUTs). This alteration is partially restored upon overcoming the assembly defect. Notably, this drop in ncRNAs is only partially dependent on the nuclear exosome, which suggests a major specific effect of enzyme assembly. Our data also point out a defect in transcription termination, which leads us to propose that CTD phosphatase Rtr1 could be involved in this process.

Objetivo: Fazer uma revisão sistemática sobre os efeitos da suplementação de whey proteins nos biomarcadores hepáticos Alanina Aminotransferase, Aspartato Aminotransferase, Glicose, Bilirrubina, Fosfatase Alcalina, Gama Glutamiltransferase, Albumina e Proteínas totais em ratos e camundongos. Materiais e métodos: Revisão Sistemática, com as palavras de busca whey proteins; Alanina Aminotransferase, Aspartato Aminotransferase, Glicose, Bilirrubina, Fosfatase Alcalina, Gama Glutamiltransferase, Albumina e Proteínas totais nos Descritores em Ciências da Saúde. o portal de Periódicos Capes; Lilacs; Scielo.org; Scielo.br; Dialnet; Redib; Medline. Resultados: de 222 artigos elegíveis utilizou-se 16 após critérios de exclusão. Discussão: em síntese, foi possível observar estudos com suplementação de Whey Proteins em que analisaram os biomarcadores alanina aminotransferase, aspartato aminotransferase, glicose, bilirrubina, fosfatase alcalina, gama glutamiltransferase, albumina e proteínas totais, detalhando os modelos dos estudos em procedimentos experimentais com ratos. Conclusão: Em conclusão, os dados deste estudo sugerem que as dosagens de suplementação variam entre 0,15g a 40g/kg de Whey proteins, sendo que de 0,15 a 20g/kg não ocorre alterações em parâmetros bioquímicos relacionados ao dano hepático.

Abstract Selenium is a well-known essential element with important roles in human reproductive health mainly due to its antioxidant character. This study aimed to investigate the potential role of selenoproteins on gut microbiota and male reproductive health. A new assay for the absolute quantification of selenoproteins in testicular tissue based on two dimensional chromatography with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was performed for the first time. The gut microbiota profile was obtained by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Numerous associations were found between testicular selenoproteins and gut microbiota (e.g. Mucispirillum, related with sperm activity and testosterone, was associated with glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and selenoalbumin (SeAlb), while Escherichia/Shigella, related to sex hormones, correlated with GPx, selenoprotein P (SelP) and SeAlb). The effects of Se-supplementation on testicular selenoproteins only occur in conventional mice, suggesting a potential selenoproteins-microbiota interplay that underlies testicular function. The selenoproteins GPx and SelP have been quantified for the first time in the testicles, and the novel identification of SeAlb, a protein with nonspecifically incorporated Se, is also reported. These findings demonstrate the significant impact of Se-supplementation on gut microbiota and male reproductive health. In addition, the analytical methodology applied here in selenoprotein quantification in testicular tissue opens new possibilities to evaluate their role in gut microbiota and reproductive health axis.

O nível ofensivo e defensivo de goleiros dentro do futsal cresceu exponencialmente, mediante as modificações sofridas nas regras da modalidade, tornando está posição vital para movimentações e vitorias durante partidas. O objetivo do presente estudo foi quantificar e comparar o nível ofensivo e defensivo entre goleiras de equipes classificadas e desclassificas da primeira fase de um campeonato estadual. Foi composto por 29 partidas da Copa Aberto de Futsal Feminino Adulto 2017 em São Luís-MA com oito equipes (divididas e dois grupos). Os registros ocorreram por filmagem em local reservado próximo da quadra. Foram analisadas seis ações de jogos (ofensivas e defensivas). Para estatística foi usado os testes shapiro-wilk e anova two-way com post-hoc de tuckey e bonferroni do software Bioestat 5.3. Foi identificado maior uso de ações ofensivas entre os grupos, as jogadoras classificadas realizaram maior número de ações ofensivas e defensivas, o passe com os pés e lançamentos com as mãos destacaram-se entre ambos os grupos, não foi identificado diferenças significativas em nenhuma ação de jogo entre os grupos. Portanto, as goleiras das equipes classificadas contribuíram mais vezes em movimentações ofensivas e defensivas durante as partidas. Embora não tenha havido diferenças estatísticas significantes entre classificadas e desclassificadas.

In the present study, the recovery of valuable molecules of proven anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity of the acidophilic microalga Coccomyxa onubensis (C. onubensis) were evaluated using green technologies based on ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE). Using a factorial design (3 × 2) based on response surface methodology and Pareto charts, two types of ultrasonic equipment (bath and probe) were evaluated to recover valuable compounds, including the major terpenoid of C. onubensis, lutein, and the antimicrobial activity of the microalgal extracts obtained under optimal ultrasound conditions (desirability function) was evaluated versus conventional extraction. Significant differences in lutein recovery were observed between ultrasonic bath and ultrasonic probe and conventional extraction. Furthermore, the antimicrobial activity displayed by C. onubensis UAE-based extracts was greater than that obtained in solvent-based extracts, highlighting the effects of the extracts against pathogens such as Enterococcus hirae and Bacillus subtilis, followed by Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. In addition, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry was performed to detect valuable anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial biomolecules present in the optimal C. onubensis extracts, which revealed that phytol, sterol-like, terpenoid, and even fatty acid structures could also be responsible for the antibacterial activities of the extracts. Moreover, UAE displayed a positive effect on the recovery of valuable molecules, improving biocidal effects. Our study results facilitate the use of green technology as a good tool in algal bioprocess engineering, improving energy consumption and minimizing environmental impacts and process costs, as well as provide a valuable product for applications in the field of biotechnology.

Intestinal fibrosis is a common complication that affects more than 50% of Crohn´s Disease (CD) patients. There is no pharmacological treatment against this complication, with surgery being the only option. Due to the unknown role of P2X7 in intestinal fibrosis, we aim to analyze the relevance of this receptor in CD complications. Surgical resections from CD and non-Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) patients were obtained. Intestinal fibrosis was induced with two different murine models: heterotopic transplant model and chronic-DSS colitis in wild-type and P2X7-/- mice. Human small intestine fibroblasts (HSIFs) were transfected with an siRNA against P2X7 and treated with TGF-β. A gene and protein expression of P2X7 receptor was significantly increased in CD compared to non-IBD patients. The lack of P2X7 in mice provoked an enhanced collagen deposition and increased expression of several profibrotic markers in both murine models of intestinal fibrosis. Furthermore, P2X7-/- mice exhibited a higher expression of proinflammatory cytokines and a lower expression of M2 macrophage markers. Moreover, the transient silencing of the P2X7 receptor in HSIFs significantly induced the expression of Col1a1 and potentiated the expression of Col4 and Col5a1 after TGF-β treatment. P2X7 regulates collagen expression in human intestinal fibroblasts, while the lack of this receptor aggravates intestinal fibrosis.

O objetivo do presente estudo foi quantificar e analisar as incidências de finalizações convertidas (gols) quanto à distância e o setor de efetivação durante um campeonato local de futsal feminino adulto. A amostra foi composta por análise de 31 jogos da Copa Aberta de Futsal Feminino adulto 2017. A coleta dos dados foi realizada em tempo real, por meio de preenchimento in loco de um scout que reproduz as dimensões de uma quadra de futsal oficial. A análise da distância das ações do jogo ocorreu com demarcação de quatro linhas: LINHA1 ou perto, LINHA2 ou média, LINHA3 ou longe e LINHA4 ou distante. A análise do setor das ações do jogo ocorreu com a demarcação de três linhas, de acordo com as regiões da quadra: ala direita, setor central e ala esquerda. Em trinta e um jogos ocorreram 167 gols, portanto 19,03% de efetividade de finalizações. O setor central apresentou maior número de gols (72%). A análise da distância das finalizações convertidas (gols) mostrou uma superioridade da LINHA1 ou curta com 82%. Portanto, de acordo com os achados, a elaboração de estratégias defensivas eficazes nestes locais é necessária, com o intuito de impedir ações de jogo ofensivas dos adversários e consequentemente resultados negativos.

Introdução: O basquete em cadeira de rodas é fisicamente exigente, requerendo um alto nível de habilidades e qualidades físicas como velocidade, agilidade e força rápida dos membros superiores, sobretudo, de musculatura envolvida na propulsão em cadeira de rodas. Objetivo: Analisar os efeitos do treinamento de força muscular na agilidade e velocidade nos jogadores de basquetebol em cadeira de rodas. Materiais e Métodos: Tratou-se de um estudo quantitativo quase experimental, com oito jogadores de basquetebol em cadeira de rodas da Associação Paradesportiva Maranhense, do sexo masculino, cinco com paraplegia, dois amputados e um vítima de artrogripose. Todos realizaram mensuração de medidas antropométricas, de testes de agilidade, velocidade e uma repetição máxima e submetidos ao treinamento de força por 12 semanas. Na agilidade, utilizou-se o teste em ziguezague; na velocidade, o teste de corrida de 40m na cadeira de rodas e na força uma repetição máxima executados em quatro momentos: inicial, após quatro semanas, após oito e após 12 semanas. As cargas foram de 60%, 70% e 80% de uma repetição máxima, reajustadas a cada quatro semanas para retestes. Discussão: As respostas positivas ao treinamento de força reduziram os índices de velocidade e agilidade, apoiando os resultados da maioria dos estudos citados. Resultados: Na agilidade, o período de 12 semanas reduziu o tempo percorrido em 8,4% e na velocidade em 6,6%. Conclusão: Todos os jogadores independentemente do tipo de deficiência ou classificação funcional apresentaram ganhos de força muscular na parte superior do corpo em 12 semanas de treinamento, diminuição do tempo percorrido na velocidade e agilidade.

Aim of study: The existence of distinct vegetation habitats within semiabandoned olive groves provides a unique chance to study the plant community within semiabandoned Mediterranean landscapes. We investigated changes in community composition of woody plants across a gradient of patch sizes by providing an example of a novel statistical technique. We also aimed to determine if commonness, life form and dispersal mechanisms of woody plants are key factors influencing species presence at vegetation patches of different sizes. Area of study: Three traditional, partially managed mountain olive groves (La Soledad, Las Niñas and Piquín) were selected within Sierra Morena de Córdoba, in Central Southern Spain. Material and methods: The woody vegetation within patches at the three groves was sampled in July 2020 following a stratified random approach. All woody plants were identified and recorded. Variation in community composition across patch area was examined using generalised linear mixed models (GLMMs) with a binomial distribution. Main results: There were significant changes in the community composition of woody plants as patch area increased. There was turnover of species with increasing area, characterised by the gain of species. This was observed both as a general and site-specific trend. Patterns in presence across area showed clear among species variation. Including dispersal strategies and life form variables improved model fit, revealing these are important factors influencing the community composition within the patches. Research highlights: The GLMM analysis demonstrated that patches of larger areas support higher richness without incurring in any loss of species. Thus, maintaining large patches is important for woody plant conservation within semi-abandoned groves.

The species-area relationship is among the most important patterns in ecology, and is an important tool in conservation. However, research into the species-area and minimum area dynamics of Mediterranean vegetation remains scarce, and this is particularly concerning since the heterogeneity of Mediterranean mosaic systems is being threatened by widespread land abandonment. This study investigates the woody vegetation at three semi-abandoned olive groves in the Sierra Morena de Córdoba, Southern Spain. We determined the mathematical nature of the species-area curves, and obtained minimum area values as a threshold patch size to target in terms of efficiently maximising species richness conservation. Power models proposed by Arrhenius could represent the species-area relationship of all three sites, yet Gleason’s exponential model performed better at one of the groves. Surrounding habitat quality and vegetation history impacted the nature of the species-area relationship, and this was reflected in significant differences among the minimum area values. This study provides one the first descriptions of woody plant communities at partially and intermittently managed groves in the Mediterranean region, and gives insight into the potential impacts of partial abandonment on landscape conservation. Enlarging patches up to the minimum area threshold could promote plant diversity whilst maintaining an open landscape, although researchers should give special care into adequately modelling the species-area relationship, in order to obtain appropriate minimum area values.

Introdução: A hipertensão arterial é considerada um problema de saúde pública por ser uma doença atual no mundo. Essa estatí­stica no Brasil vem crescendo entre 60% a 85% de âmbito por infarto de miocárdio e acidente vascular cerebral. Objetivo: Demonstrar os efeitos agudos e crônicos através das variáveis da pressão arterial sistólica, diastólica, frequência cardí­aca e duplo produto do treinamento de força nos hipertensos. Materiais e Métodos: Foram consultadas as bases de dados em revistas nacionais nos anos de 2003 a 2017. Resultados: A revisão encontrou 11 artigos com inclusão de 4 hipertensos e 7 para normotensos. Houve maior elevação de pressão arterial nos hipertensos incluindo a manobra de valsava. Discussão: O que vem apontando que o treino resistido beneficia os hipertensos após uma sessão de treinamento comparados a outros estudos. Conclusão: O treinamento de força precisa e deve ser realizado para a melhora da hipotensão arterial pós treino nos hipertensos. Sugere-se ter mais estudos na área para colaborar e auxiliar na prescrição em cima das variáveis, dos tipos de exercí­cios e manipulação de treino de forma segura e acompanhada por um profissional de educação fí­sica.

Ribosomes are the basis for protein production, whose biogenesis is essential for cells to drive growth and proliferation. Ribosome biogenesis is highly regulated in accordance with cellular energy status and stress signals. In eukaryotic cells, response to stress signals and the production of newly-synthesized ribosomes require elements to be transcribed by the three RNA polymerases (RNA pols). Thus, cells need the tight coordination of RNA pols to adjust adequate components production for ribosome biogenesis which depends on environmental cues. This complex coordination probably occurs through a signaling pathway that links nutrient availability with transcription. Several pieces of evidence strongly support that the Target of Rapamycin (TOR) pathway, conserved among eukaryotes, influences the transcription of RNA pols through different mechanisms to ensure proper ribosome components production. This review summarizes the connection between TOR and regulatory elements for the transcription of each RNA pol in the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It also focuses on how TOR regulates transcription depending on external cues. Finally, it discusses the simultaneous coordination of the three RNA pols through common factors regulated by TOR and summarizes the most important similarities and differences between S. cerevisiae and mammals.

Coccomyxa onubensis (C. onubensis) is an acidotolerant microalga isolated from Tinto River (Huelva), which contains high levels of metal cations in solution, mainly Fe (II) and (III), and Cu (II). Fe is more bioavailable at low pH, mainly because Fe (II) and Fe (III) are far more soluble, especially Fe (III). For this reason, this study aims to evaluate both physiological and biochemical responses of C. onubensis when subjected to Fe (III)-induced stress. Changes in growth, photosynthetic viability and antioxidant responses to the induced oxidative stress were determined. The results obtained suggest that the addition of moderate Fe (III) levels to C. onubensis cultures results in improved growth and photosynthetic viability. Increases in the intracellular levels of the enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) and flavonoids, used as antioxidant response biomarkers, a point at Fe (III)-mediated oxidative stress induction. The apparent decrease in the content of other phenolic molecules and polyunsaturated fatty acids might be understood as a sign of antioxidant molecules' involvement in reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging. In conclusion, a noticeable antioxidant capacity displayed by C. onubensis allows the use of moderate Fe (III) levels to trigger the accumulation of valuable antioxidant molecules, allowing the production of cell extracts with potential anti-inflammatory activity.

We have characterized the snow albedo decay over Hurd Peninsula, Livingston Island, Antarctica, for the period 2000-2016. The snow albedo was obtained from the MOD10A1 product of the spaceborne MODIS sensor. A low-pass filter is applied to the data in order to eliminate short-term variations and retain the seasonal variation of albedo. The seasonal albedo was fitted to an exponential decay function to obtain the decay rate, the duration and the starting date of the decay. On average, albedo decay starts in late September and lasts for 96 ± 20 days. Snow melting lags behind snow albedo decay. This lag is due, on the one hand, to the occurrence of dry-snow metamorphism and sublimation in the early stages of the decay, and on the other hand to persisting subsurface melting after the completion of the metamorphic processes at the surface. The albedo decay is mainly driven by the shortwave incident radiation, with air and near-surface temperatures unexpectedly playing a minor role. Near-surface-temperature controls the importance of the local topography in the albedo decay. Topography only determines the albedo decay when the snow cover is not homogeneous over the study area.

Introduction: Clinical and experimental research in medicine has been the main path to most of advances in diagnosis and therapy throughout the history, with remarkable surgeons as researchers. To develop good quality research in surgery is a challenge since special issues difficult the process and lack of time and resources discourage residents and surgeons from conducting research. Aim: The aim of this narrative review is to explore the barriers for the surgeon-researcher. Results: The challenges to investigate in surgery arise from many aspects of research itself. There are methodological difficulties for developing good quality evidence, since randomizing, blinding and placebo interventions are difficult to apply in surgical trials. Furthermore, the learning curve effect makes outcomes hard to interpret. From the researcher point of view, time and resources are scarce and no priority seems to be given to research in surgery residencies and during daily practice. Regarding the ethical point of view, the surgeon researcher must face conflictive issues as the patient´s ''therapeutic misconception'', the debatable use of placebo in surgical trials and animal experimentation, along with other bioethical issues. Conclusions: There are both external and inherent difficulties in researching in surgery. A long way is yet to be followed until our surgical conducts are fully evidence based. Under these circumstances, surgery may remain being an art, but as surgeons we have to look forward to converting surgery in an evidence-based art.

Objetivo: objetivo foi comparar o percentual de gordura, massa gorda e massa magra entre praticantes veteranos e iniciantes de Krav-Maga durante treinamento de Krav-Maga de 16 semanas. Materiais e Métodos: Participaram voluntariamente, 30 praticantes de Krav-Maga, sendo: veteranos (n=15), que praticavam Krav-maga há pelos menos 3 anos e iniciantes (n=15) que estão iniciando essa prática de Krav-Maga. O programa de treinamento físico foi desenvolvido em 16 semanas de treinamento, com exercícios de mobilidade articular, alongamento, fortalecimento e técnicos específicos de Krav-Maga nível inicial, com frequência de três sessões semanais e duração de 60 a 90 minutos com intensidades que variaram de baixa, moderada a alta, estabelecidas pela frequência cardíaca obtida no limiar aeróbio (LA) e ponto de compensação respiratória, obtidos pelo Yo Yo teste de VO2 máximo e por meio das avaliações e protocolos aplicados antes e durante o seguimento. O percentual de gordura foi estimado utilizando-se o método de Jackson e Pollock proposto para homens com sete dobras cutâneas (subescapular, tricipital, peitoral, axilar média, supra ilíaca, abdominal e femural média) com um plicômetro científico Sanny, com precisão de 1mm. Estatística descritiva. Resultados e Discussão: Ambos os grupos tiveram um aumento da massa magra e diminuição da massa gorda, bem como diminuição do percentual de gordura. Conclusão: Concluímos que, 16 semanas de treinamento de Krav-maga é capaz de reduzir aspectos da composição corporal de veteranos e de iniciantes.

Objetivo: Foi de realizar uma revisão narrativa da literatura sobre efeitos na função renal da suplementação de whey proteins e do treinamento físico em ratos e camundongos. Materiais e Métodos: Revisão narrativa com fundamentação em artigos oriundos das bases de dados Scielo, Lilacs, Dialnet, Medline/Pubmed e Web of Science Resultados: Quinze artigos foram selecionados a partir de combinações entre as palavras de busca whey proteins, resistance training, creatinine, ureia, proteinuria. Discussão: Dentre os estudos apresentados observou-se com base nos procedimentos de cada um que há necessidade de investigações que aliem dietas hiperproteicas em diversas doses, intensidade do treinamento, tipo do treinamento e avaliação completa da função renal, de modo que corrobore com as medidas clínicas comumente utilizadas para diagnótico em nefrologia. Nesse sentido, os procedimentos de investigação da função renal a nível bioquímico e morfológico adotados para as futuras investigações pré-clínicas precisam corroborar com os fatores que influenciam nos marcadores renais como as dietas hiperproteicas e o treinamento, haja vista que a Doença Renal Crônica pode ser multifatorial. Conclusão: os procedimentos utilizados para a avaliação da função renal em estudos com tratamento de dietas hiperproteicas e treinamento em ratos e camundongos, podem ser no conjunto inadequados ou inconclusivos. Haja vista que se faz necessário a associação com mais de um marcador sérico e urinário para verificação da depuração do analito, bem como associação a estado de hidratação, conteúdo da dieta e composição corporal.

Paraesophageal giant hiatal hernia is a rare condition associated with serious complications if not treated surgically. There are no reports of the minimally invasive abdominal repair of a giant hiatal hernia of the stomach almost entirely occupying the right thoracic cavity. The most common clinical presentation includes pathological gastroesophageal reflux, dysphagia, chest pain, or respiratory symptoms such as chronic cough or dyspnoea. Chest computed tomography, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, and high-resolution oesophageal manometry are used to indicate the best treatment. This article reports the minimally invasive abdominal repair of a case of paraesophageal giant hiatal hernia occupying the right thoracic cavity.

Plants contain five nuclear RNA polymerases, with RNA pols IV and V in addition to conserved eukaryotic RNA pols I, II, and III. These transcriptional complexes share five common subunits, which have been extensively analyzed only in yeasts. By taking advantage of the recently published olive tree cultivar (Olea europaea L. cv. Picual) genome, we performed a genome-wide analysis of the genomic composition corresponding to subunits common to RNA pols. The cultivated olive tree genome is quite complex and contains many genes with several copies. We also investigated, for the first time, gene expression patterns for subunits common to RNA pols using RNA-Seq under different economically and biologically relevant conditions for the cultivar “Picual”: tissues/organs, biotic and abiotic stresses, and early development from seeds. Our results demonstrated the existence of a multigene family of subunits common to RNA pols, and a variable number of paralogs for each subunit in the olive cultivar “Picual.” Furthermore, these isoforms display specific and differentiated expression profiles depending on the isoform and growth conditions, which may be relevant for their role in olive tree biology.

How do the weather conditions typical of the polar maritime glaciers in the western Antarctic Peninsula region affect flight operations of fixed-wing drones and how should these be adapted for a successful flight? We tried to answer this research question through a case study for Johnsons and Hurd glaciers, Livingston Island, using a fixed-wing RPAS, in particular, a Trimble UX5 UAV with electric pusher propeller by brushless 700 W motor, chosen for its ability to fly long distances and reach inaccessible areas. We also evaluated the accuracy of the point clouds and digital surface models (DSM) generated by aerial photogrammetry in our case study. The results were validated against ground control points taken by differential GNSS techniques, showing an accuracy of 0.16 ± 0.12 m in the vertical coordinate. Various hypotheses were proposed and flight-tested, based on variables affecting the flight operation and the data collection, namely, gusty winds, low temperatures, battery life, camera configuration, and snow reflectivity. We aim to provide some practical guidelines that can help other researchers using fixed-wing drones under climatic conditions similar to those of the South Shetland Islands. Performance of the drone under harsh weather conditions, the logistical considerations, and the amount of snow at the time of data collection are factors driving the necessary modifications from those of conventional flight operations. We make suggestions concerning wind speed and temperature limitations, and avoidance of sudden fog banks, aimed to improve the planning of flight operations. Finally, we make some suggestions for further research.

Evolutionarily conserved kinases and phosphatases regulate RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) transcript synthesis by modifying the phosphorylation status of the carboxyl-terminal domain (CTD) of Rpb1, the largest subunit of RNAPII. Proper levels of Rpb1-CTD phosphorylation are required for RNA co-transcriptional processing and to coordinate transcription with other nuclear processes, such as chromatin remodeling and histone modification. Whether other RNAPII subunits are phosphorylated and influences their role in gene expression is still an unanswered question. Much less is known about RNAPI and RNAPIII phosphorylation, whose subunits do not contain functional CTDs. However, diverse studies have reported that several RNAPI and RNAPIII subunits are susceptible to phosphorylation. Some of these phosphorylation sites are distributed within subunits common to all three RNAPs whereas others are only shared between RNAPI and RNAPIII. This suggests that the activities of all RNAPs might be finely modulated by phosphorylation events and raises the idea of a tight coordination between the three RNAPs. Supporting this view, the transcription by all RNAPs is regulated by signaling pathways that sense different environmental cues to adapt a global RNA transcriptional response. This review focuses on how the phosphorylation of RNAPs might regulate their function and we comment on the regulation by phosphorylation of some key transcription factors in the case of RNAPI and RNAPIII. Finally, we discuss the existence of possible common mechanisms that could coordinate their activities.

Introdução: Dietas com whey proteins elevam a taxa de filtração glomerular de forma aguda e/ou crônica, bem como no aumento da concentração de creatinina, ureia e ácido úrico sérico na urina. Objetivo: o objetivo do estudo foi realizar uma revisão sistemática sobre o efeito do consumo de whey proteins na função renal de ratos e camundongos em relação aos biomarcadores creatinina, ureia, proteinúria e alterações histológicas teciduais nos glomérulos e túbulos renais. Materiais e métodos: Revisão sistemática nas Bases de Dados Lilacs, Scielo.org, Dialnet, Pubmed, Web of Science, com termos de busca constantes nos descritores em saúde da BVS/OMS. Resultados: vinte oito artigos foram selecionados. Discussão: a partir dos estudos analisados, observa-se que ainda são escassos os que abordam diretamente a relação entre as variáveis whey proteins e função/dano renal; a maioria dos estudos abordaram biomarcadores de função renal e/ou análises histológicas do rim, e não apresentam alterações significativas na utilização da suplementação de whey proteins, tanto em caráter agudo, quanto crônico. Conclusão: Os estudos apontam que a utilização/suplementação com whey proteins não altera de forma significativa os biomarcadores creatinina, ureia, proteinúria e nas alterações histológicas teciduais dos glomérulos e túbulos renais.

Introdução: O exercício físico resistido agudo e crônico tem como característica a realização de estímulos de curta duração com séries repetidas contra uma resistência, além de ser um potente estímulo à síntese proteica do músculo esquelético. Esta alteração em termos de aumento da massa do músculo esquelético depende da relação temporal entre síntese de proteína muscular e degradação de proteína muscular. A investigação dessas vias é de grande importância para o estudo da hipertrofia do músculo esquelético. Trabalhos realizados com animais de laboratório como ratos ou camundongos tem grande relevância devido algumas características como por exemplo, maior homogeneidade das amostras além de maior facilidade no controle de variáveis como carga de treinamento e principalmente sobre ingesta calórica. Na literatura científica existem diversos modelos de exercício físico agudo e crônico realizados com ratos e camundongos, além da suplementação por diferentes fontes de proteína, com o objetivo de avaliar o comportamento dessas vias de regulação da síntese e degradação proteica. Objetivo: Uma revisão narrativa sobre os efeitos do exercício físico resistido agudo e crônico com ou sem suplementação na expressão gênica de MTOR, MURF-1, MAFBX. Materiais e métodos: Essa revisão foi baseada no portal Periódicos Capes; Medline e Lilacs; PubMed; Scielo.org; Scielo.br; Redib; Dialnet. Resultados e Discussão: Dos 24 artigos revisados, foram divididos em 13 modelos de intervenção diferentes. Modelos separados de acordo com o tempo do estímulo: agudo ou crônico; tipo de estímulo: aeróbio, resistido ou combinados; modelo experimental e com ou sem suplementação de whey proteins. Conclusão: Em relação ao estudo das vias de síntese e degradação proteica, foi possível observar a utilização de diferentes modelos experimentais e tipos de estímulo.

Introdução: O treinamento com Kettlebell é uma forma de exercício físico que pode proporcionar benefícios na qualidade do movimento, na capacidade cardiorespiratória e na força muscular máxima. Objetivo: O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar o efeito do treinamento com Kettlebell sobre a qualidade do movimento, a resistência cardiorespiratória e a força muscular máxima. Metodologia Foram selecionados 24 voluntários do sexo masculino para realização de treinamento com Kettlebell durante 5 semanas. Voluntários que responderam sim (3) ao questionário de aptidão para a prática da atividade física (PAR-Q) foram excluídos do estudo. O número final da amostra foi de 21 participantes que foram divididos em 2 grupos para realização do protocolo de treinamento com Kettlebell através do swing: a) grupo unilateral (n= 12); b) grupo bilateral (n= 9). A qualidade do movimento foi avaliada através do Functional Movement Screen (FMS), a capacidade cardiorespiratória pelo YoYo Test e a força muscular máxima de membros superiores pelo supino e dos inferiores pelo leg press 45o. A análise estatística foi feita através do Graph Pad Prism 7.0 pelo teste t de Student não pareado adotando p< 0,05. Resultados: A média da pontuação final no FMS foi acima dos 14 pontos para ambos grupos. Foi constatada melhora significativa na capacidade cardiorespiratória para o grupo unilateral (p = 0,02) e bilateral (p = 0,0047) quando comparado o pré e pós intra grupos. Na força muscular máxima de membros superiores e inferiores foi constada diferença significativa apenas nos superiores para o grupo bilateral (p = 0,0022). Não houve diferenças entre os grupos quando analisado apenas o pré ou o pós protocolo para os itens avaliados. Conclusão: A prática do swing com Kettlebell independentemente se executado de forma unilateral ou bilateral durante 5 semanas tem um impacto positivo na qualidade do movimento e na capacidade cardiorespiratória, contudo apenas o swing bilateral é capaz de proporcionar melhoras significativas na força muscular máxima dos membros superiores.

Resumen: Objetivo: Estimar el efecto de la vacunación antigripal en los trabajadores de atención primaria y en la población atendida durante la campaña de vacunación antigripal 2015/2016. Diseño: Estudio transversal. Emplazamiento: Todos los centros asistenciales de atención primaria del Área de Salud de Gran Canaria. Participantes: Un total de 1.868 profesionales (33,5% hombres; 66,5% mujeres) y 795.605 personas de la población general (49,4% hombres; 50,6% mujeres). Mediciones principales: En profesionales, las variables de resultado fueron: declaraciones de gripe al Sistema de Vigilancia Epidemiológica y días de incapacidad temporal por enfermedad; en población general: gripes declaradas y coberturas vacunales en función del estado vacunal del sanitario. Se estimó la magnitud de asociación entre la vacunación y la morbilidad mediante modelos de regresión logística. Resultados: Los profesionales sanitarios que no se vacunaron tuvieron un riesgo de tener gripe 1,7 veces superior al de los profesionales que se vacunaron, aunque la diferencia no fue estadísticamente significativa; en población general se encontró una asociación significativa solo en mujeres (OR: 1,3; IC 95%: 1,1-1,5). La cobertura poblacional fue significativamente mayor cuando médico y enfermero estaban vacunados (OR: 1,3; IC 95%: 1,3-1,3), y el número de gripes declaradas disminuyó cuando el enfermero estaba vacunado (OR: 0,9; IC 95%: 0,9-0,9). Conclusiones: Se observó un posible efecto protector de la vacunación antigripal en la población general, así como una influencia del estado vacunal de los sanitarios en las coberturas de los pacientes. Aun así, las bajas coberturas registradas apuntan a una necesidad de implementar medidas que propicien una actitud más favorable frente a la vacunación antigripal. Abstract: Objective: To estimate the effect of the influenza vaccination in Primary Healthcare workers and the general population vaccinated during the 2015/2016 campaign. Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: All the Primary Healthcare centres within the Gran Canaria healthcare region. Participants: A total of 1,868 Primary Healthcare workers (33.5% men; 66.5% women) and 795,605 individuals from the general population (49.4% men; 50.6% women). Principal measurements: The outcome variables in Primary Healthcare workers were: influenza cases reported to the Epidemiological Surveillance System, and the sick leave days due to illness. In the general population: reported flu cases and vaccination coverage in connection with the vaccination status of the healthcare professional. The magnitude of association between vaccination and morbidity was estimated applying logistic regression models. Results: Although not statistically significant, healthcare professionals that were not vaccinated had 1.7-fold increase in the risk of having influenza than those vaccinated. In the general population the association was significant in the female population (OR: 1.3; 95% CI: 1.1-1.5). Population coverage was significantly higher when both the doctor and nurse were vaccinated (OR: 1.3; 95% CI: 1.3-1.3), and reported flu cases decreased when the nurse was vaccinated (OR: 0.9; 95% CI: 0.9-0.9). Conclusion: A possible protective effect of influenza vaccination was observed in the general population, as well as an influence of Primary Healthcare workers on the patients regarding this. Even so, the low coverages registered point to a need to implement measures that may lead to a more favourable attitude towards influenza vaccination. The question of the dependence of the topological charge q of a gauged Skyrmion, on the gauge field, is studied quantitatively. Two examples, both gauged with SO(2) are studied and contrasted: i) The O(3) model in 2+1 dimensions, and ii) The O(4) model in 3+1 dimensions. In case i), where the (usual) Chern–Simons (CS) term is present, the value of q changes sign, going through zero. This evolution is tracked by a parameter characterising the solutions in the given theory. In case ii), in which dimensions no CS density is available, the evolution of q is not observed. Introdução: A doença de Alzheimer é uma doença crônica neurodegenerativa, sendo o principal tipo de demência existente. Objetivo: Este trabalho tem o objetivo de apresentar os efeitos da suplementação com ω-3 na doença de Alzheimer. Metodologia: Foi feita uma revisão sistemática através de uma busca no PubMed e como critério de inclusão adotou-se que seriam utilizados artigos publicados nos últimos 5 anos e estudos originais publicados feitos com humanos. Foram utilizados os seguintes descritores para a busca dos artigos originais no PubMed: Alzheimer´s Disease (Doença de Alzheimer), Omega-3 Fatty Acids (ácidos graxos ω-3) e Dietary Supplementation (suplementação dietética). Ao final foram revisados 10 artigos que atenderam todos os critérios de inclusão. Resultados: A maioria dos estudos analisados mostraram que a suplementação com ω-3 diminuiu os biomarcadores da inflamação em pacientes com Alzheimer, porém a melhora na cognição dependeu de alguns fatores como a dose administrada, a duração da intervenção e em qual estágio da doença começou a suplementação. Discussão: O ω-3 combateu a inflamação presente na maioria dos estudos analisados. Foi verificado também nos resultados dos estudos analisados que a suplementação com o ω-3 possui diversas ações benéficas nos portadores da doença de Alzheimer. Conclusão: Suplementação com o ω-3 promoveu a diminuição do estresse oxidativo e da expressão de proteínas pró-inflamatórias, aumento da expressão de proteínas anti-inflamatórias e inibição ou melhora do declínio cognitivo. ABSTRACT Omega-3 effects in patients with Alzheimer´s disease Introduction: Alzheimer's disease is a chronic neurodegenerative disease, and the main type of dementia. Objective: This study aims to present the effects of ω-3 supplementation on Alzheimer's disease. Methodology: A systematic review was made through a PubMed search and as inclusion criterion it was adopted that articles published in the last 5 years and original published studies made with humans would be used. The following descriptors were used to search for original articles in PubMed: Alzheimer's Disease, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Dietary Supplementation. At the end, 10 articles were reviewed that met all inclusion criteria. Results: Most studies have shown that ω-3 supplementation decreased the biomarkers of inflammation in patients with Alzheimer´s, but the improvement in cognition depended on factors such as the dose administered, the duration of the intervention and at which stage of the intervention. disease began supplementation. The type of food ingested will develop the disease faster or avoid its development. ω-3 supplementation could help in most studies to fight Alzheimer´s progression although a few studies showed no influence of the usage of ω-3. Conclusion: Supplementation with ω-3 promoted the reduction of oxidative stress, and the expression of pro-inflammatory proteins, increased expression of anti-inflammatory proteins and inhibition or amelioration of cognitive decline.
