Abstract: Clinical 16 mm cinefluorography and 70 mm camera fluorography were compared in 30 unselected patients undergoing coronary arteriography. Accuracy in detecting coronary arterial stenosis and collateral vessels and in assessing the degree of stenosis was similar with the two techniques. With both methods, there were significant inter- and intraobserver differences in estimating the degree of stenosis. These differences indicate that coronary arteriography is only a semiquantitative method for making decisions about treatment, prognosis and follow-up of patients. The use of more than one observer increases the likelihood that stenotic lesions will be detected. Interobserver variation in detecting collateral circulation is small.

Abstract: We have employed balloon catheters to establish hemostasis in two patients with arterial hemorrhage caused by pelvic trauma. The catheters were introduced percutaneously under fluoroscopic guidance with a standard catheter-guidewire system. Within 24 hours, the bleeding had ceased in both patients. No sequelae associated with the therapy developed. Alternative therapy for these patients is surgical arterial ligation or clot embolization. Both of these approaches have inherent hazards that are obviated by balloon obstruction. (JAMA230:573-575, 1974)

Abstract: An internal biliary fistula was found in a patient 20 years after cholecystectomy. The preoperative and intraoperative radiographic findings were significant in the discovery and excision of the fistula.

Abstract: Air inadvertently injected into the soft tissues of the back during attempts to administer epidural anesthesia simulated retroperitoneal emphysema on the abdominal roentgenograms of three patients. Recognition of this possibility by the radiologist allows differentiation of this condition from true retroperitoneal emphysema by detection of gas in a superficial posterior location on oblique and lateral projections. In all apparent retroperitoneal gas collections, this association with epidural anesthesia must be considered and the pertinent patient history and appropriate radiographs obtained.
