In this article, we seek to modify the view that Fo is the driving force behind the theatrical production of the various incarnations of the Compagnia Fo–Rame. We review certain theoretical aspects of authorship, emphasising it as an intrinsically collaborative process. In particular, we want to move away from the dichotomy that sees Fo as the solitary writer-actor-genius, and Rame as the ancillary manager and editor of 'his' works. Not only is the reality far more complex, but those roles are in fact creative authorial functions inside a collaborative practice. Why has this not been done before? In part because of a cultural practice that puts the individual (male) and his 'genius' at the centre, and in part because of a strong narrative put forward by Fo and Rame themselves, never truly questioned by scholars; as a consequence, Rame's contribution has been either side-lined, or reclaimed in problematic ways.

The protagonist of “Una donna sola” is a housewife who keeps a monologue with herself and with several invisible people outside the stage. As the plot develops different types of dialogic relationships and verbal interactions are introduced in the story. The protagonist, through her mono-dialogue, movesfrom a state of unconsciousness to one of awareness, from a passive victim to an active subject. Her character is the “crazy” woman who shows uncomfortable truths. The deliberate staging of the subordinate role of women becomes a form of Querelle. On the one hand Franca Rame denounces violence and male authoritarianism, on the other hand she proposes the deconstruction and reconstruction of female identities.

This article addresses L'operaio conosce 300 parole, il padrone 1000, per questo lui è il padrone (1969), one of the first plays produced by the couple Dario Fo and Franca Rame after their rupture with the mainstream bourgeois theatrical circuit. Through a close reading of one section of the play – the monologue 'Michele lu Lanzone' – we trace the beginnings of a process of re-negotiation of Rame's role within their professional relationship. We argue that the monologue both represents and plays out a series of tensions around ideological, artistic and gender issues, thus 'othering' the female protagonist from the rest of the piece and its didactic message. We also show how the complex intersections of discourses and agendas that constitute the tension within L'operaio are in fact the ongoing context in which Rame will 'find her own voice', gaining independence without ever abandoning the partnership. Of their long period in activity, probably the most engaged is the 1970s, a time when, among others, they wrote the play Non si paga, non si paga (1974; 2000), recently translated into the audiovisual in Brazil, in the film Não vamos pagar nada, written by Renato Fagundes and directed by João Fonseca, released in October 2020. The stake in a heated discussion on reviving tarantism in the Salentian culture by initiators and partcicipants of the project ‘The spider of a dancing god’ was the reinterpretation of the phenomenon itself: tarantism, which was perceived as a thing of the past and an embarrassing social problem, was to become artistically modified, namely isolated from life and displayed on stage. Rejecting tarantism as a folk practice and an attempt at representing it could also be interpreted as turning a blind eye to the problem of a woman’s position in society, without proposing anything in turn. Technological and social progress did not go hand in hand with the emancipation of an Italian woman. Luigi Piradnello in his drama, and Franka Rame in her monodrama captured this phenomenon brilliantly.

R. G. Davis directed the first commercial productions of Dario Fo's Accidental Death of an Anarchist and We Won't Pay We Won't Pay!, both in Canada and the USA. In the context of the original close relevance of the plays to the political situation in Italy, he looks at how in the USA especially their force has been diluted if not extinguished by the imperative to conform to the inherent anti-communsm of American culture. R. G.Davis founded and directed the San Francisco Mime Troupe in the 1960s, and the Epic West Center for the Study of Bertolt Brecht and Epic Theatre at Berkeley in 1975. Later he returned to academia to study science and ecology, and visited Cuba to examine the culture of organic farming. He has contributed previously to New Theatre Quarterly and its predecessor, specifically on Fo in two articles for the original Theatre Quarterly: ‘Seven Anarchists I Have Known: American Approaches to Dario Fo’, in TQ 8 (1986), and ‘Dario Fo Off-Broadway: the Making of Left Culture under Adverse Conditions’, in TQ 40 (1981). THEATER anthropology , *KINDNESS , *MULTICULTURALISM - Abstract
In 1996 the Polish theatre scholar Juliusz Tyszka was present at the gathering of the International School of Theatre Anthropology (ISTA) in Copenhagen. Here, Dario Fo – in company with his wife and theatrical partner Franca Rame, also a contributor – was among the few invited to participate in both sessions of the conference: ‘Performers’ Bios: Whispering Winds of Theatre and Dance’ and ‘Theatre in a Multicultural Society’. Though already seventy years old and still in recovery from a recent stroke, Fo was incapable of confining himself to a conventional lecture, but (against his doctor's advice) combined his talk with performing the points he was making, whether imitating the curves of a voluptuous girl or enacting a speech in his universal ‘language’ of ‘gramelot’. He was to live on for another twenty years before his death at the age of ninety on 13 October 2016, outliving Franca Rame by just three years. Juliusz Tyszka, an advisory editor of NTQ and a regular contributor to the journal, is head of the Unit of Performance Studies, Institute of Cultural Studies, Adam Mickiewicz University at Poznań, Poland.

The main theme of master's thesis is the social criticism of Dario Fo, a Nobel Prize recipient, who often collaborated with his wife and muse Franca Rame, thus creating many provocative and fun works including All house, bed and church. The couple recognized humor as a character strength that can improve the quality of life. Always through laughter, with his exaggerated humor, he approached the social problems of the oppressed and troubled people . Since he and Rame survived many difficulties, his works were characterised by authenticity and an almost aggressive spirit towards the ruling system in Italy, towards the corrupt politicians, the manipulators and the corrupters. Humor can be found in the most unusual, unexpected and dangerous places that reek of family violence, opportunism, sexism and terror. With their All house, bed and church they have confirmed that language can reinvent reality, demonstrate it as fantastic or invented , thus avoid the censorship and try to solve contemporary problems indirectly. All house, bed and church is a collection of monologues, intended primarily for women to support feminist and egalitarian ideals. The protagonists in the work differ in their external features such as age and social roles they have (a mother, a daughter, a wife ...), but have in common the way they contradict the tradition and habits that are most commonly taken as normal with a macabre sense of humor. The characters are linear, even when complex in theory, they behave like spectators or victims of their social circumstances. They may try to criticise, but others rarely listen to them, as they seem to be in conflict with themselves. The characters and their way of thinking develop alongside the society, in which they are trying to find a refuge and be happy, but in the end it is obvious that the only reality that matters is in the mind of each individual.

Sarà infatti proprio Eva, che ha il dono della parola, a dare vita al creato attraverso il linguaggio., Franca Rame and Dario Fo have created numerous plays centered on the woman – in myth, in the past, in the present time – and have reconsidered the traditional women’s models that have been passed down for centuries until today. Eve is a founding model of the role of women in society and she could not be missed in their repertoire. This article focuses on the analysis of two plays with Eve as the protagonist of another version of the world’s creation: Il diario di Eva and Adamo ed Eva and it is particularly concentrated at the time of the nominated rerum. With these two dramaturgical texts, Fo and Rame propose another Genesis and violate the narrative that for centuries has influenced the way we perceive the relationship between the sexes and female identity. This is the creation story told by the creatures, particularly from a female point of view, full of humanity, understanding and a high dose of humor: Eve is the one who makes creation exist through language, the one who has the gift of speech.

My thesis was intended to inform readers about the one-woman show I performed, A Mother. In addition, my thesis described job positions within my field and the research I conducted for my production. Essentially, this may allow readers without any experience in the theatre to understand the process an actor undergoes during a production. Typically there are many people on a production team performing various roles. Instead, my tremendous challenge was acting as producer, director, actor, event coordinator, part designer, and marketing director. This paper includes acting advice from classmates, my instructor, Larry McDonald, and details of my use of the acting methods of Sanford Meisner. The most significant resources I used for assistance with character work and directorial decisions are included. The script of A Mother was written by the late Franca Rame and, Dario Fo who won the 1997 Nobel Prize for Literature.

Dario Fo and Franca Rame were the most recognized Italian teatrologists of the second half of the twentieth century, famous for their popular and committed art, which intended to provoke people to reflect – and, consequently, emancipate – through comedy. This work aims to talk about their creative process and the consequent writing of theatrical texts, starting especially from the reading of the thesis of Maria Teresa Pizza, entitled “At Work with Dario Fo and Franca Rame: Genesis and composition of the Theatrical Work.” For Fo’s case, creation is inseparable from playful and everyday life, the creative experience is not only a temporal, but also a spatial and a transmedia continuum. In the case of Rame, instead, the creation is based on a particular sensitivity to the rhythm of the scene and an excellent capacity for improvisation, followed by a continuous labor of remaking and perfecting the work, which gave rise not only to the couple’s numerous publications, but also to an online archive with over 5 million documents on their works, respecting the multiplicity of languages involved both in the creation and in the execution of each of their texts.

The purpose of this article is to study the reception of the dramatic production of the Italians Dario Fo and Franca Rame in Spain. Due to the great fecundity of these playwrights -more than eighty plays-, as well as their long career -from the fifties to the present day-, the field of analysis has been limited to the period from the seventies to the end of the nineties, a time in which publications and performances of their plays are regular in Spain. It is fundamentally a work of documentation on the translations of their works that have been made in these decades both in Spanish and Catalan, as well as the representations that have taken place throughout the Spanish territory. For this purpose, we have analysed reviews, articles, reports, and interviews published in the daily press and magazines, with special attention to "El País" and "Primer Acto", two samples of national press and theatrical magazines that provide us with a lot of information about the reception of Fo and Rame's work from different aspects: the theatrical, obviously, but, given the interest that these two figures arise, also from other points of view, such as the political, social, or moral. An invaluable source of documentation -even though it is not always systematic and sometimes lacks fundamental data- is the Archivio Franca Rame, a website where the playwrights have been posting year by year everything that has to do with them, in Italy and abroad; both private documents - letters, contracts, congratulations... - and articles and reviews about their activity, but also theatre programs, scripts, drawings, and photographs.1997 is a key year to understand how these works arrive and how they are received in Spain because it is then when Dario Fo was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, an important international distinction not without controversy, especially in Italy, and for which both Fo and Rame are placed in the spotlight of the Spanish written media and has as an immediate consequence the considerable increase in the number of publications and performances of their plays in Spain., En este artículo se pretende estudiar la recepción de la obra y delas representaciones de Franca Rame en España durante los añosochenta y noventa.

Tutta casa, letto e chiesa (1977) is a play written by Franca Rame and Dario Fo on the condition of women, deeply marked by the feminist debates that had taken place since 1968 and by the turbulent political events that took place in Italy in the 1960s and 1970s. It was translated into Portuguese as Um orgasmo adulto escapa do zoológico (1983), by Zilda Daeier and Brincando em cima daquilo (1984), by Roberto Vignati and Michele Piccoli. This work proposes a study of the original Italian text based on the Italian political context, on the grotesque humor and on the language used by Rame and Fo with the aim of thinking its translation into Brazilian portuguese. Moreover, since the 1983 translation was not found, it analyzes the 1984 translation, taking into account the reflections of translation theorists such as Berman, Meschonnic, Pavis and Barbosa. Finally, believing that the existing translations into Brazilian portuguese deserved to be updated, the present work also proposes a new integral translation of the Italian spectacle into Brazilian portuguese, entitled Bela, recatada e do lar and based on the last available version of the text, published in 2005 and based on the 1985 performances.

- Abstract
The protagonist of “Una donna sola” is a housewife who keeps a monologue with herself and with several invisible people outside the stage. As the plot develops different types of dialogic relationships and verbal interactions are introduced in the story. The protagonist, thr ough her mono-dialogue, moves from a state of unconsciousness to one of awarene ss, from a passive victim to an active subject.

In 1977, Dario Fo and Franca Rame came back to television after a fifteen-year absence due to the “Canzonissima” scandal of 1962. This event reinforced Dario Fo’s reputation as a leading personality of Italian culture, and marks the beginning of a strongly visual approach to theatre. At the end of the seventies, Fo’s theatre appeared to have lost its subversive quality; in actual fact, he was developing a new theatrical language intended as an alternative to the mind-numbing language used in many television programmes at a time when politics had also turned into a spectacle. Fo’s monologue Johan Padan a la descoverta delle Americhe (1991) can be seen as an invitation to activate one’s imaginative skills, and as a response to the “hegemonic and destructive incursions” referred to by Claudio Meldolesi in 1978.

Bakhtine ,[SHS.LITT]Humanities and Social Sciences/Literature ,Dario Fo ,Franca Rame - Abstract
