Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all domains of human life, including the economic and social fabric of societies. One of the central strategies for managing public health throughout the pandemic has been through persuasive messaging and collective behaviour change. To help scholars better understand the social and moral psychology behind public health behaviour, we present a dataset comprising of 51,404 individuals from 69 countries. This dataset was collected for the International Collaboration on Social & Moral Psychology of COVID-19 project (ICSMP COVID-19). This social science survey invited participants around the world to complete a series of moral and psychological measures and public health attitudes about COVID-19 during an early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic (between April and June 2020). The survey included seven broad categories of questions: COVID-19 beliefs and compliance behaviours; identity and social attitudes; ideology; health and well-being; moral beliefs and motivation; personality traits; and demographic variables. We report both raw and cleaned data, along with all survey materials, data visualisations, and psychometric evaluations of key variables.

Abstract: Changing collective behaviour and supporting non-pharmaceutical interventions is an important component in mitigating virus transmission during a pandemic. In a large international collaboration (Study 1, N = 49,968 across 67 countries), we investigated self-reported factors associated with public health behaviours (e.g., spatial distancing and stricter hygiene) and endorsed public policy interventions (e.g., closing bars and restaurants) during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic (April-May 2020). Respondents who reported identifying more strongly with their nation consistently reported greater engagement in public health behaviours and support for public health policies. Results were similar for representative and non-representative national samples. Study 2 (N = 42 countries) conceptually replicated the central finding using aggregate indices of national identity (obtained using the World Values Survey) and a measure of actual behaviour change during the pandemic (obtained from Google mobility reports). Higher levels of national identification prior to the pandemic predicted lower mobility during the early stage of the pandemic (r = −0.40). We discuss the potential implications of links between national identity, leadership, and public health for managing COVID-19 and future pandemics.

Abstract: The present manuscript examines the way young Europeans represent Europe's history. A study conducted in 11 European countries (N = 1406 students in social sciences) shows that the characters considered most important in the history of Europe are mostly men linked either to WW2, authoritarianism, or conquests and empires. Although these appear later in the rankings and despite some imbalance between countries, Europe's history is also associated with religious figures, artists, scientists, and philosophers. These results show that the representations of the history of Europe currently shared by young Europeans correspond, in part, to historical narratives based on a specific set of experiences, events, and values supposedly common to the peoples of Europe that were promoted by European elites throughout the integration process. Further, these results suggest that beyond the negative narrative of war and the crimes of totalitarianism, the history of Europe is also embodied by positive characters transcending national boundaries and associated with a set of key elements of the EU identity: democracy, tolerance, solidarity, humanism, and the Enlightenment. Finally, we also highlight the near-total absence of characters unambiguously related to colonization and, especially, decolonization, and a strong overall under-representation of women.

Abstract: Changing collective behaviour and supporting non-pharmaceutical interventions is an important component in mitigating virus transmission during a pandemic. In a large international collaboration (Study 1, N = 49,968 across 67 countries), we investigated self-reported factors associated with public health behaviours (e.g., spatial distancing and stricter hygiene) and endorsed public policy interventions (e.g., closing bars and restaurants) during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic (April-May 2020). Respondents who reported identifying more strongly with their nation consistently reported greater engagement in public health behaviours and support for public health policies. Results were similar for representative and non-representative national samples. Study 2 (N = 42 countries) conceptually replicated the central finding using aggregate indices of national identity (obtained using the World Values Survey) and a measure of actual behaviour change during the pandemic (obtained from Google mobility reports). Higher levels of national identification prior to the pandemic predicted lower mobility during the early stage of the pandemic (r = −0.40). We discuss the potential implications of links between national identity, leadership, and public health for managing COVID-19 and future pandemics.

Abstract: At the beginning of 2020, COVID-19 became a global problem. Despite all the efforts to emphasize the relevance of preventive measures, not everyone adhered to them. Thus, learning more about the characteristics determining attitudinal and behavioral responses to the pandemic is crucial to improving future interventions. In this study, we applied machine learning on the multinational data collected by the International Collaboration on the Social and Moral Psychology of COVID-19 (N = 51,404) to test the predictive efficacy of constructs from social, moral, cognitive, and personality psychology, as well as socio-demographic factors, in the attitudinal and behavioral responses to the pandemic. The results point to several valuable insights. Internalized moral identity provided the most consistent predictive contribution-individuals perceiving moral traits as central to their self-concept reported higher adherence to preventive measures. Similar results were found for morality as cooperation, symbolized moral identity, self-control, open-mindedness, and collective narcissism, while the inverse relationship was evident for the endorsement of conspiracy theories. However, we also found a non-neglible variability in the explained variance and predictive contributions with respect to macro-level factors such as the pandemic stage or cultural region. Overall, the results underscore the importance of morality-related and contextual factors in understanding adherence to public health recommendations during the pandemic.

Abstract: The present study examines current social representations associated with the origins of the Great War, a major event that has profoundly affected Europe. A survey conducted in 20 European countries (N = 1906 students in social sciences) shows a high consensus: The outbreak of the war is attributed to the warring nations’ leaders while the responsibility of the populations is minimized. Building on the concept of social representation of history (Liu & Hilton, 2005), we suggest that the social representations of the Great War fulfill social psychological functions in contemporary Europe. We suggest that WWI may function as a charter for European integration. Their content also suggests a desire to distinguish a positively valued ingroup ("the people") from powerful elites, construed as an outgroup.

9. Antifungal Effect of Polymethyl Methacrylate Resin Base with Embedded Au Nanoparticles

Abstract: Full and partial restorations in dentistry must replicate the characteristics of the patient’s natural teeth. Materials must have good mechanical properties and be non-toxic and biocompatible. Microbes, which can form biofilms, are constantly in contact with restorations. In this study, we investigate how well Candida albicans adheres to a polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) resin base with gold (Au) nanoparticles. We synthesized Au nanoparticles and characterized them. The average size of Au nanoparticles embedded in PMMA was 11 nm. The color difference ΔE between PMMA and PMMA/Au composites was 2.7 and was still esthetically acceptable to patients. PMMA/Au surfaces are smoother and more hydrophilic than pure PMMA surfaces, and the isoelectric point of both types of surfaces was 4.3. Above the isoelectric point, PMMA/Au surfaces are more negatively charged than PMMA surfaces. The added Au nanoparticles decreased the tensile strength, while the hardness did not change significantly. Adhesion measurements showed that PMMA surfaces modified with Au nanoparticles reduced the extent of microbial adhesion of Candida albicans.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate and understand bacterial adhesion to different dental material surfaces like amalgam, Chromasit, an Co-Cr alloy, an IPS InLine ceramic, yttrium stabilized tetragonal polycrystalline zirconia (TPZ), a resin-based composite, an Au-Pt alloy, and a tooth. For all materials, the surface roughness was assessed by profilometry, the surface hydrophobicity was determined by tensiometry, and the zeta potential was measured by electrokinetic phenomena. The arithmetic average roughness was the lowest for the TPZ ceramic (Ra = 0.23 µm ± 0.02 µm), while the highest value was observed for the Au-Pt alloy (Ra = 0.356 µm ± 0.075 µm). The hydrophobicity was the lowest on the TPZ ceramic and the highest on the Co-Cr alloy. All measured streaming potentials were negative. The most important cause of tooth caries is the bacterium Streptococcus mutans, which was chosen for this study. The bacterial adhesion to all material surfaces was determined by scanning electron microscopy. We showed that the lowest bacterial extent was on the amalgam, whereas the greatest extent was on tooth surfaces. In general, measurements showed that surface properties like roughness, hydrophobicity and charge have a significant influence on bacterial adhesion extent. Therefore, dental material development should focus on improving surface characteristics to reduce the risk of secondary caries.

Abstract: More is daily becoming known about the nature of the Algoma (Blind River, Ontario) U deposits and, accordingly, opinions on their origin may now be more meaningful. In the first published description of the field following its discovery in 1952 the author then omitted reference to the possible origin of the ores but tacitly implied that they were probably hydrothermal and hypogene by identifying the field as centrally situated in a large metallogenetic province characterized by the classical hypogene mineral assemblage of Co-Ni-U. The author is now having second thoughts on the subject. Observations on new data and his opinions follow. The presently suggested theory does not mark the end of the road but rather another milestone.

Abstract: Zemljiškokatastrski prikaz (ZKP) je grafični prikaz vseh parcel in parcelnih številk v Sloveniji. Po opredelitvi je to slika oblike in medsebojne lege parcel. Položajna natančnost ZKP je zelo različna in je na nekaterih območjih celo zelo slaba. Težave s položajno natančnostjo odpravlja zemljiškokatastrski načrt (ZKN), ki je izdelan na podlagi kakovostnih podatkov, pridobljenih v postopkih vzdrževanja zemljiškega katastra. V prispevku so predstavljeni viri podatkov za izdelavo ZKN, metoda izdelave ZKN za posamezne tipe podatkovnih virov, kakovost izdelka, zagotovljen način vzdrževanja ZKN, praktična dostopnost in možnost širše uporabe ZKN ; The Land Cadastre Representation (ZKP) is a graphic representation of all parcels and parcel numbers in Slovenia. By definition, this is the image of the shape and position of the parcels. The positional precision of the ZKP is highly variable, in some areas even very poor. The Land Cadastre Plan (ZKN) is made on the basis of high quality data obtained in the processes of maintaining the land cadastre and solves the problems with positional precision. This paper presents the data sources that produce the ZKN, the ZKN's method for producing various types of data sources, the quality of the product, the way of maintaining the ZKN, as well as the practical accessibility and possibility of wider use of the ZKN.

18. Distribution modelling as an approach to the conservation of a threatened alpine endemic butterfly (Lepidoptera: Satyridae)

Abstract: Mountain butterfly species are often restricted in their distribution and under threat from habitat destruction and climate change. Due to the inaccessibility of their habitats the distributions of many such species are unknown. We have investigated whether information on the habitat requirements of the Alpine endemic species Erebia calcaria could be used for modelling its potential distribution. We surveyed part of its range using transects and recorded habitat and environmental parameters. The most important parameters determining the presence of the species were average height of the vegetation, maximum height of the vegetation, percentage area of bare ground, number of food plants and slope. Furthermore, the abundance of E. calcaria is strongly affected by site exposure and grazing intensity. Using these results we modelled the potential distribution of the species in its known historical range in Slovenia. In the region covered by the model 70% of the records of E. calcaria were within the predicted distribution. It is reasonable to propose that such a high detection rate justifies the use of distribution models for predicting a species range and providing important additional information for their conservation. In the case of E. calcaria, we have shown that endemic mountain butterflies can be strongly threatened by fragmentation of their habitat, overgrazing and succession, which could be further amplified by changes in climate.

Abstract: Přiměřená fyzická zdatnost je významným aspektem obecné připravenosti ozbrojených sil a nedílnou součástí armádní podpory. Cílem tohoto průzkumu bylo zjistit účinky výcvikového programu, založeného na individuálně přizpůsobené míře intenzity, na motorické schopnosti zaměstnanců slovinských ozbrojených sil (SV). Vzorek zahrnoval 34 členů SV (16 zařazených do experimentální skupiny – ES a 18 do kontrolní skupiny – KS) ve věku od 35 do 40 let. Výsledky byly zpracovány pomocí programu SPSS 8.0 pro Windows. Zpracování výsledků bylo prováděno v několika etapách. Nejprve byly stanoveny základní statistické charakteristiky a distribuce individuálních proměnných, byla vypočtena míra střední tendence a stupeň disperze, byla použita metoda pro analýzu s rizikem odchylky 5 %. Výsledky prokázaly, že charakteristického zvýšení úrovně určitých motorických schopností sledovaného souboru lze dosáhnout pomocí ekonomizace výcvikového postupu a individuálně přizpůsobené intenzity výcviku. Statisticky významné rozdíly mezi experimentální a kontrolní skupinou byly zjištěny při měření tělesného tuku (KG), kliků (SK), hrudních předklonů v lehu pokrčmo, běhu na 3200 metrů (T3200M) a klidové srdeční frekvence (FSUs). Přestože byl zkoumaný vzorek malý, tyto studie alespoň teoreticky potvrzují potřebu dalšího výzkumu v této oblasti, protože naše důkazy výrazně naznačují účinnost individuálně navržených výcvikových protokolů na tělesnou připravenost zaměstnanců slovinských ozbrojených sil. Adequate physical readiness is a significant aspect of universal armed forces readiness and an integral part of military support. The aim of this research was to ascertain the effect of a training program, based on individually adapted intensity levels, on motor abilities of the Slovene armed forces (SV) personnel. The sample of subjects included 34 members of SV (16 in the experimental group – ES, and 18 in the control group – KS), aged between 35 and 40. Results have been processed by the SPSS 8.0 for Windows program. Data processing was carried out in several phases. First, the basic statistical characteristics and the distribution of individual variables have been determined, the measures of central tendency and the measures of dispersion have been calculated and a method for the analysis of variance with 5% risk has been used. The results have shown that a characteristic enhancement of certain motor abilities of the sample studied can be improved by means of training process economisation and individually adapted training intensity levels. Statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups were found in measurements of body fat (KG), push-ups (SK), curl-ups (DT), a 3200 meter run (T3200M) and the morning heart beat frequency (FSUs). Although the research sample was small, these studies, at least in theory support the need for future research in these areas, as our evidence strongly suggests the effectiveness of individually designed training protocols on the physical readiness of Slovenian armed personnel.

Abstract: The article deals with a minor topic from the electronic commerce security sphere. An estimation of the level of risk of information security commerce between the Surveying and Mapping Authority and surveying companies is represented, based on the recording of goods, possible threats and estimation of vulnerability of goods. The most important final conclusion is that assuring security of electronic commerce is not a unique occurrence, but first of all a process of permanent monitoring of activities, education and introduction of new technologies.

Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all domains of human life, including the economic and social fabric of societies. One of the central strategies for managing public health throughout the pandemic has been through persuasive messaging and collective behaviour change. To help scholars better understand the social and moral psychology behind public health behaviour, we present a dataset comprising of 51,404 individuals from 69 countries. This dataset was collected for the International Collaboration on Social & Moral Psychology of COVID-19 project (ICSMP COVID-19). This social science survey invited participants around the world to complete a series of moral and psychological measures and public health attitudes about COVID-19 during an early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic (between April and June 2020). The survey included seven broad categories of questions: COVID-19 beliefs and compliance behaviours; identity and social attitudes; ideology; health and well-being; moral beliefs and motivation; personality traits; and demographic variables. Abstract: Despite global commitments and efforts, a gender-based division of paid and unpaid work persists. To identify how psychological factors, national policies, and the broader sociocultural context contribute to this inequality, we assessed parental-leave intentions in young adults (18–30 years old) planning to have children (N = 13,942; 8,880 identified as women; 5,062 identified as men) across 37 countries that varied in parental-leave policies and societal gender equality. In all countries, women intended to take longer leave than men. National parental-leave policies and women’s political representation partially explained cross-national variations in the gender gap. Gender gaps in leave intentions were paradoxically larger in countries with more gender-egalitarian parental-leave policies (i.e., longer leave available to both fathers and mothers). Interestingly, this cross-national variation in the gender gap was driven by cross-national variations in women’s (rather than men’s) leave intentions. Financially generous leave and gender-egalitarian policies (linked to men’s higher uptake in prior research) were not associated with leave intentions in men. Rather, men’s leave intentions were related to their individual gender attitudes. Leave intentions were inversely related to career ambitions. In a large international collaboration (Study 1, N = 49,968 across 67 countries), we investigated self-reported factors associated with public health behaviours (e.g., spatial distancing and stricter hygiene) and endorsed public policy interventions (e.g., closing bars and restaurants) during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic (April-May 2020). Respondents who reported identifying more strongly with their nation consistently reported greater engagement in public health behaviours and support for public health policies. Results were similar for representative and non-representative national samples. Study 2 (N = 42 countries) conceptually replicated the central finding using aggregate indices of national identity (obtained using the World Values Survey) and a measure of actual behaviour change during the pandemic (obtained from Google mobility reports). Higher levels of national identification prior to the pandemic predicted lower mobility during the early stage of the pandemic (r = −0.40). We discuss the potential implications of links between national identity, leadership, and public health for managing COVID-19 and future pandemics.

Abstract: The present study examines current social representations associated with the origins of the Great War, a major event that has profoundly affected Europe. A survey conducted in 20 European countries (N = 1906 students in social sciences) shows a high consensus: The outbreak of the war is attributed to the warring nations’ leaders while the responsibility of the populations is minimized. Building on the concept of social representation of history (Liu and Hilton, 2005), we suggest that the social representations of the Great War fulfill social psychological functions in contemporary Europe. We suggest that WWI may function as a charter for European integration. 27. KORIŠTENJE SREDSTAVA OVISNOSTI I PROVOĐENJE SLOBODNOG VREMENA MLADIH LIČKO-SENJSKE ŽUPANIJE

Abstract: Rad uspoređuje rezultate dva istraživanja provedena u rasponu od jedanaest godina (2003. i 2014.) o korištenju sredstava ovisnosti i provođenju slobodnog vremena među ispitanicima mlađeg i srednjeg adolescentskog perioda iz Ličko-senjske županije. Oba istraživanja napravljena su u svim osnovnim i srednjim školama u Ličko-senjskoj županiji, točnije u 7-im i 8-im razredima osnovnih škola i sva 4 razreda srednjih škola (strukovnih i gimnazija) (ukupan broj sudionika istraživanja 2003. = 2755, a 2014. = 2209 učenika). Korišten je upitnik Kako si? autora Petra Bezinovića. Rezultati pokazuju da mlađi adolescenti u osnovnoj školi tek pokušavaju pušiti, međutim, među srednjoškolcima ih je trećina redovitih konzumenata. Najviše je onih koji eksperimentiraju s pivom, a trećina ih je povremenih ili redovitih konzumenata piva. I kod konzumacije vina je najviši udio eksperimentatora, a među srednjoškolcima je za polovinu više povremenih i redovitih konzumenata vina. Najviši udio ispitanih nikada ne konzumira žestoka alkoholna pića, a među onima koji ih konzumiraju, najviše ima eksperimentatora. Učestalost konzumacije sedativa, amfetamina i marihuane je niska i pokazalo se da se takav trend godinama nije mijenjao. Najviše slobodnog vremena desetljeće ranije adolescenti su provodili u krugu obitelji, što se znatno smanjilo u korist rada na računalu, lutanja ulicama i noćnih izlazaka, ali i bavljenja sportom i hobijima. Prikazati će se neki pokazatelji odnosa između provođenja slobodnoga vremena i korištenja sredstava ovisnosti. Analiza ovih rezultata je u cilju razvijanja preventivnih aktivnosti u ovoj županiji koje bi trebale biti fokusirane na ukazivanje štetnosti pušenja i konzumiranja alkohola kao i na upoznavanje s mogućnostima kvalitetnijeg provođenja slobodnog vremena te poticanja mladih da se u njih uključuju. U tom kontekstu bilo bi korisno što prije sustavno utvrditi paletu aktivnosti koje su mladima dostupne u županiji, mapirati njihove provoditelje/ponuditelje i stvoriti atraktivnu platformu mladima za informiranje o njima kao pozitivnim alternativama za (stjecanje doživljaja zadovoljstva) i afirmaciju (među vršnjacima). Također, stvaranjem sustava za kontinuiranu procjenu interesa i potreba mladih u županiji dobile bi se korisne informacije za dionike u lokalnoj zajednici o smjeru u kojem je potrebno razvijati ponudu aktivnosti namijenjenih mladima i koje se mogu integrirati kao dio lokalnog sustava prevencije ovisničkog i drugih rizičnih ponašanja.

Abstract: Na uspješnost bilo koje organizacije uvelike utječe kvalitetna selekcija, ali i klasifikacija. Kvalitetan odabir zaposlenika podrazumijeva postavljanje "pravog čovjeka na pravo mjesto", odnosno da zaposlenici budu odabrani temeljem svojih sposobnosti, a zatim sukladno svojim osobinama ličnosti i kompetencijama budu postavljeni na radna mjesta koja zahtijevaju upravo takve osobine ličnosti i kompetencije. Navedeno ne pridonosi samo kvalitetnijem radu i boljem uspjehu organizacije, već i zadovoljstvu samih zaposlenika radnim mjestom te njihovoj inicijativi i produktivnosti. U Oružanim snagama Republike Hrvatske postoji veliki broj raznovrsnih ustrojstvenih mjesta koja zahtijevaju različita znanja i vještine pa i osobine ličnosti. Cilj ovog ispitivanja bio je utvrditi koje su karakteristike ličnosti pripadnika zaposlenih u zapovjedništvima ustrojstvenih cjelina po funkcionalnom području kojim se bave te ispitati povezanost između posjedovanja pojedinih karakteristika i zadovoljstva pripadnika njihovim rasporedom i radom u određenom funkcionalnom području. U tu svrhu primijenjen je upitnik kojim su, uz opće podatke (godine života, radni staž, rad u određenom funkcionalnom području i sl.), prikupljene i procjene zadovoljstva pripadnika njihovim rasporedom i radom u određenom funkcionalnom području. Podatci o relevantnim opisima dimenzija ličnosti iz profesionalnog života ispitanika prikupljeni su pomoću Bohumskog ineventara za opis ličnosti u radnom okruženju (Hossiep i sur.). BIP je usmjeren na četiri područja koja su se, uz stručne kvalifikacije, pokazala važnim u profesionalnom životu (strukovna usmjerenost, socijalne kompetencije, radno ponašanje i psihička konstitucija). Sudionici u ispitivanju bili su pripadnici zapovjedništava ustrojbenih cjelina OS RH, koji su dobrovoljno ispunili navedene upitnike. Rezultati provedenih analiza nisu pokazali značajne razlike u mjerenim karakteristikama ličnosti kod pripadnika koji rade u različitim funkcionalnim područjima.

Abstract: In the present work, we addressed the relationship between parental leave policies and social norms. Using a pre-registered, cross-national approach, we examined the relationship between parental leave policies and the perception of social norms for the gender division of childcare. In this study, 19,259 students (11,924 women) from 48 countries indicated the degree to which they believe childcare is (descriptive norm) and should be (prescriptive norm) equally divided among mothers and fathers. Policies were primarily operationalized as the existence of parental leave options in the respective country. The descriptive and prescriptive norms of equal division of childcare were stronger when parental leave was available in a country - also when controlling for potential confounding variables. Moreover, analyses of time since policy change suggested that policy change may initially affect prescriptive norms and then descriptive norms at a later point. Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all domains of human life, including the economic and social fabric of societies. One of the central strategies for managing public health throughout the pandemic has been through persuasive messaging and collective behaviour change. To help scholars better understand the social and moral psychology behind public health behaviour, we present a dataset comprising of 51,404 individuals from 69 countries. This dataset was collected for the International Collaboration on Social & Moral Psychology of COVID-19 project (ICSMP COVID-19). This social science survey invited participants around the world to complete a series of moral and psychological measures and public health attitudes about COVID-19 during an early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic (between April and June 2020). The survey included seven broad categories of questions: COVID-19 beliefs and compliance behaviours; identity and social attitudes; ideology; health and well-being; moral beliefs and motivation; personality traits; and demographic variables. Abstract: Aim: To compare Croatian participants vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and unvaccinated participants in terms of socio-demographic, personal, social, and COVID-19-related variables., Methods: From August till December 2021, 721 (465 vaccinated and 256 unvaccinated) participants completed an online survey about socio-demographic (age, sex income, education, marital status), personal (well-being indicators, personality measures and health), social (trust in experts, trust in government), and COVID-19-related characteristics (fear of COVID-19, history of COVID-19 infection). Differences between the groups were assessed with discriminant analysis., Results: The variables that best discriminated between vaccinated and unvaccinated participants were higher trust in experts, no history of COVID-19 infection, older age, higher fear of COVID-19, and intellect. Conclusion The study points to the importance of trust in experts in the promotion of COVID-19 vaccine.

Abstract: At the beginning of 2020, COVID-19 became a global problem. Despite all the efforts to emphasize the relevance of preventive measures, not everyone adhered to them. Thus, learning more about the characteristics determining attitudinal and behavioral responses to the pandemic is crucial to improving future interventions. In this study, we applied machine learning on the multinational data collected by the International Collaboration on the Social and Moral Psychology of COVID-19 ( N = 51,404) to test the predictive efficacy of constructs from social, moral, cognitive, and personality psychology, as well as socio-demographic factors, in the attitudinal and behavioral responses to the pandemic. The results point to several valuable insights. Internalized moral identity provided the most consistent predictive contribution-individuals perceiving moral traits as central to their self-concept reported higher adherence to preventive measures. Similar results were found for morality as cooperation, symbolized moral identity, self-control, open-mindedness, and collective narcissism, while the inverse relationship was evident for the endorsement of conspiracy theories. However, we also found a non-neglible variability in the explained variance and predictive contributions with respect to macro-level factors such as the pandemic stage or cultural region. Abstract: Changing collective behaviour and supporting non-pharmaceutical interventions is an important component in mitigating virus transmission during a pandemic. In a large international collaboration (Study 1, N = 49,968 across 67 countries), we investigated self-reported factors associated with public health behaviours (e.g., spatial distancing and stricter hygiene) and endorsed public policy interventions (e.g., closing bars and restaurants) during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic (April-May 2020). Respondents who reported identifying more strongly with their nation consistently reported greater engagement in public health behaviours and support for public health policies. Results were similar for representative and non-representative national samples. Study 2 (N = 42 countries) conceptually replicated the central finding using aggregate indices of national identity (obtained using the World Values Survey) and a measure of actual behaviour change during the pandemic (obtained from Google mobility reports). Higher levels of national identification prior to the pandemic predicted lower mobility during the early stage of the pandemic (r = -0.40). 37. Analytic Thinking and Political Orientation in the Corona Crisis.

Abstract: With much unknown about the new coronavirus, the scientific consensus is that human hosts are crucial to its spread and reproduction-the more people behave like regular socializing beings they are, the more likely it is that the virus will propagate. Hence, many nations worldwide have mandated physical-distancing measures. In the current preregistered research, we focus on examining two factors that may help explain differences in adherence to COVID-19 preventive behaviors and policy support across different countries-political orientation and analytic thinking. We positioned our research within the dual-process framework of human reasoning and investigated the role of cognitive reflection, open-minded thinking, and political ideology in determining COVID-19 responsible behavior (physical distancing and maintaining hygiene) and support for restrictive COVID-19 policies on a sample of 12,490 participants from 17 countries. We have not been able to detect substantial relationships of political orientation with preventive behaviors and policy support, and overall found no reliable evidence of politicization, nor polarization regarding the issue. The results of structural equation modeling showed that the inclination towards COVID-19 preventive measures and their endorsement were defined primarily by the tendency of open-minded thinking. Specifically, open-minded thinking was shown to be a predictor of all three criteria-avoiding physical contact, maintaining physical hygiene, and supporting COVID-19 restrictive mitigation policies. Cognitive reflection was predictive of lesser adherence to stricter hygiene and only very weakly predictive of lesser policy support. Furthermore, there was no evidence of these effects varying across political contexts. The mediation analysis suggested a partial mediation effect of COVID-19 conspiracy beliefs on the relationships of open-mindedness and cognitive reflection with physical distancing (but not adherence to stricter hygiene) and COVID-19 policy support, albeit very small and significant primarily due to sample size. There was also no evidence of these effects varying across political contexts. Abstract: To understand recent anti-refugee protests in Europe, we examined how different levels of inclusiveness of group identities (national, European, and global) are related to intentions to protest among native Europeans. We focused on the mediating role of autochthony (a belief that the first inhabitants of a territory are more entitled) and the moderating role of threat. Survey data from 11 European countries ( N = 1,909) showed that national identification was positively associated with autochthony, and therefore, with the intention to protest against refugees. In contrast, global identification was related to lower protest intentions via lower autochthony. These paths were found only among Europeans who perceived refugees as a threat. European identification was not related to the endorsement of autochthony or to collective action. These findings indicate why and when majority members are willing to participate in collective action against refugees, and underscore the importance of global identification in the acceptance of refugees., Competing Interests: The authors have no conflict of interest to declare., (© 2019 The Authors. 39. Tie--an accessory fashion detail or a symbol?

Abstract: Aim: The first aim of this study was to establish the frequency of wearing a tie or business neckerchief on different occasions and in relation to age and educational level. The second aim was to establish whether men who frequently wear a tie were attributed certain characteristics more often than men who rarely wear a tie and to establish whether there were differences in the attribution of these characteristics according to sex, age, educational level, and the frequency of wearing a tie., Method: Data were collected in 2005 by a method of face to face interview on a national representative sample (n = 1007). Participants estimated how often they wore a tie or business neckerchief on 9 different occasions. They also estimated whether each of 14 characteristics was more pronounced in men who frequently wear a tie., Results: Tie was most frequently worn on festive and formal occasions,such as weddings and festive gatherings, and least frequently on family gatherings and when traveling. On all occasions, tie was more often worn by men of higher educational level and of older and middle age. A relatively small proportion of Croatian citizens based their conclusions on men's characteristics on the frequency of wearing a tie. Men who frequently wear a tie were relatively most often attributed the characteristics of ambition, politeness, and respectability, with significant differences found between persons who attributed these characteristics according to sex, age, educational level, and the frequency of wearing a tie by the participants themselves., Conclusion: Wearing a tie or neckerchief is an exception rather than a rule for most of the Croatian population, and is associated only with specific, primarily festive and formal occasions. Such use of the tie suggests that people adapt their style of clothing to the expectations of others and use it as a specific symbol of the occasion.
