Abstract

El género Attalea presenta 56 de las 459 especies de palmeras sudamericanas y 28 desde Colombia a Bolivia. Se encuentran desde México a Bolivia, en diferentes tipos de vegetación: bosques húmedos bajos en vegetación secundaria y estacionalmente inundada y otras ecoregiones, bosques secos tipo sabana, matorral costero tropical, bosques húmedos tropicales y en bosques premontanos y montanos hasta los 1600 msnm. En la región amazónica es uno de los géneros típicos de significativas radiaciones a nivel específico junto a Bactris, Geonoma y Astrocaryum con alrededor de 28 especies, teniendo como rango altitudinal desde el nivel del mar hasta los 1600 msnm. En el Perú, Attalea ocurre en valles de las vertientes orientales con marcados endemismos y comparte con Bolivia ocho especies. En la Amazonía, la diversidad fenotípica de Attalea se basa en caracteres vegetativos observables a partir del tamaño y complejidad caulinar distinguiéndose especies de baja estatura, al presentar tallo subterráneo, y las de gran magnitud con tallo columnar y macizo. La problemática de la identificación en este grupo se basa en una escasa colección de material botánico de exsiccatae de ambos sexos en herbarios nacionales, así como pérdida total o parcial de especímenes tipo y el empleo de diferentes conceptos del género por los taxónomos. Published in partnership with NACADA: The Global Community for Academic AdvisingAcademic advisors help students learn to make the most of their college years, not merely by completing requirements toward a degree but also by growing intellectually and developing all aspects of their identity. Yet, many professional and faculty advisors are new to academic advising and may feel ill-equipped to do more than help students register for classes. This new edited collection provides an overview of the theory and best practice undergirding advising today while exploring the transition challenges of a wide-range of first-year college students, including those attending two-year colleges, coming from underrepresented backgrounds, entering underprepared for college-level work, and/or experiencing academic failure.

Abstract

We evaluated the morphology and biometrics of racemes, fruits, and seeds of Attalea bassleriana in the localities of Paraiso, Libertad de Cuiparillo and Santa Lucia in the Alto Amazonas Province, Peru, to understand its interpopulational variability and contribute to the taxonomic clarification of the species. Additionally, we described the environment where the palm grows. To do so, we used 70 descriptors (38 biometric and 32 morphological), which were compared with ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis, correlated through Spearman, and graphically visualized by Principal Component Analysis (PCA). A data sheet for field samples was used for the description of the environment. In total, 23 biometric descriptors presented significant differences (p < 0.05). The highest correlations were fruit number/raceme weight (0.921) and fruit weight/fruit diameter (0.844). The PCA demonstrates the variability of fruits between populations and denotes Paradise as the least variable and the most differentiated. Likewise, we observed that the species is found in terrace forests, swampy forests, agricultural and livestock lands, between 145-159 m.a.s.l. The data evidence the taxonomic identification of shebon and constitute a reference for both the proper utilization of fruits and seeds and their application to genetic improvement.
