Abstract

Meat, chicken, eggs and milk are all important foods worldwide because of their energetic and nutritious constituents beneficial to human health. This review aims to analyze the results of the studies carried out on the contamination of these foods (meat, chicken, eggs and milk) by the toxic trace elements As, Cd and Pb in different countries, and to compare their values with the international regulatory limits. According to the data of the various studies analyzed, all the studied matrices have been contaminated with these toxic metals. The concentrations reported differ for each matrix according to their analyzed tissues, their geographical location, their age and the food types chosen. The concentrations involved also are highly dependent on the studied trace element. Most of the reported concentrations in these foods exceed the international regulatory thresholds. Therefore, it is important to perform regular monitoring studies for all these foodstuffs along with corresponding health risk assessment estimates as well as carrying out studies to better identify the origin of the high levels of these contaminants and seek solutions to prevent major human poisonings and to ensure the safety of these foods. Abstract

One of the limitations of wireless sensor nodes is their inherent limited energy resource. Besides maximizing the lifetime of the sensor node, it is preferable to distribute the energy dissipated throughout the wireless sensor network in order to minimize maintenance and maximize overall system performance. Any communication protocol that involves synchronization of peer nodes incurs some overhead for setting up the communication. We introduce a new algorithm, e3D (energy-efficient Distributed Dynamic Diffusion routing algorithm), and compare it to two other algorithms, namely directed, and random clustering communication. We take into account the setup costs and analyze the energy-efficiency and the useful lifetime of the system. In order to better understand the characteristics of each algorithm and how well e3D really performs, we also compare e3D with its optimum counterpart and an optimum clustering algorithm. The benefit of introducing these ideal algorithms is to show the upper bound on performance at the cost of an astronomical prohibitive synchronization costs. We compare the algorithms in terms of system lifetime, power dissipation distribution, cost of synchronization, and simplicity of the algorithm. Abstract

Despite the extensive deployment of digital instruments in modern times, their stability is challenging to maintain in adverse environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures, pressure, or powerful electromagnetic radiation. Analog meters, owing to their mechanical resilience and electromagnetic impedance, persistently find usage across nuclear power plants, petroleum, and chemical industries. However, under these harsh conditions, manual reading of the instruments may prove to be difficult and dangerous while failing to meet the requirements of real-time monitoring. In recent years, several machine vision-based meter reading systems have been proposed, however, achieving high accuracy through camera-based methods under varying angles and lighting conditions poses significant challenges. Cloud deployment may compromise plant privacy, while edge computing faces limitations in real-time meter reading due to limited computing power. To address these issues, we propose a real-time reading system based on the YolactEdge instance segmentation framework for single-point analog meters. Our system is more accurate than previous studies and is implemented and deployed on the Jetson Xavier NX edge computing device. Nowadays, directional communication represents a high potential solution for Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication in Beyond-Fifth-Generation (B5G) vehicular networks, using the millimeter wave (mmWave) technique. Due to the high mobility in the vehicular environment and to ensure a higher data rate to establish a reliable V2X communication link, an efficient beam alignment is needed to point the optimal direction between the moving vehicle and the mmWave base station. To deal with this issue, we propose in this paper a new beam alignment method to select the optimal beam angle of Departure (AoD) from the mmWave base station, used further to transmit data toward the moving vehicle directly. The novelty of our proposal concerns the suggestion of an original hybrid beam alignment approach, combining a 128-filters-based Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and 4-layers based Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM). The selected angle is performed automatically for each vehicle position with the lowest error probability and the highest received signal power. The performance of our proposed CNN-BiLSTM model was evaluated using popular regression metrics such as mean squared error (MSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and root-mean-square error (RMSE). The results show that our model achieved values of at least 0.0107, 0.0765, and 0.103 for MSE, MAE, and RMSE, respectively, outperforming other machine learning algorithms such as KNN regressor, SVR, BiLSTM, and CNN-LSTM.
