Background: Disease recurrence in colorectal cancer constitutes a major cause of significant cancer-associated morbidity and mortality. MAP17 is a small protein, and its overexpression in malignant tumors has been correlated with aggressive tumor phenotypes. The aim of the present study was to investigate the expression patterns of MAP17 in colorectal cancer specimens and to assess its clinical significance. Patients and Methods: Surgical specimens of 111 patients with primary resectable colorectal cancer constituted the study population. Expression of MAP17 was assessed by immunohistochemistry, and the results were correlated with clinical and survival data. Results: MAP17 was expressed in cancer cells and endothelial cells of tumor blood vessels. Expression of MAP17 more than 10% was correlated with advanced disease stage (p < 0.001), higher T classification (p = 0.007), the presence of lymph node metastasis (p < 0.001), vascular (p = 0.013) and perineural invasion (p = 0.012). Patients exhibiting MAP17 expression of more than 30% in cancer cells compared to those expressing MAP17 less than 10% demonstrated a significantly worse 3-year progression-free survival (35.2 vs. 91%, p < 0.001) and 5-year overall survival (40.8 vs. 91%, p < 0.001). Cox regression analysis confirmed MAP17 expression of more than 30% as a prognostic marker of progression free survival (HR 0.136, 95% CI = 0.056-0.329, p < 0.001) and overall survival (HR 0.144 [95% CI) = 0.049-0.419, p < 0.001) independent of other clinicopathological characteristics. Statistically significantly worse 3-year progression-free survival and 5-year overall survival was demonstrated in the subgroup analysis of patients with early stage cancer only and high expression of MAP17. Conclusions: High MAP17 expression in patients with colorectal cancer is a significant risk factor for cancer-associated morbidity and mortality already in early stage disease. © 2021 S. Parasites threaten human and animal health globally. It is estimated that more than 60% of people on planet Earth carry at least one parasite, many of them several different species. Unfortunately, parasite studies suffer from duplications and inconsistencies between different investigator groups. Hence, groups need to collaborate in an integrated manner in areas including parasite control, improved therapy strategies, diagnostic and surveillance tools, and public awareness. Parasite studies will be better served if there is coordinated management of field data and samples across multidisciplinary approach plans, among academic and non-academic organizations worldwide. In this paper we report the first 'Living organism-World Molecular Network', with the cooperation of 167 parasitologists from 88 countries on all continents. This integrative approach, the 'Sarcoptes-World Molecular Network', seeks to harmonize Sarcoptes epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and molecular studies from all over the world, with the aim of decreasing mite infestations in humans and animals. © 2011 International Society for Infectious Diseases.

MCom (Industrial Psychology), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2018 Many organisations have reformed to a fun work environment by implementing play in the workplace, but organisations have jumped the gun by doing this as the effect of play in the workplace is still unknown. Therefor this study aimed to gain more insight regarding the effect of play at work on psychological detachment, work enjoyment, employee performance, workplace boredom and turnover intention levels of work teams. A play at work intervention was implemented in a tele-sales organisation in the North West province of South Africa and employees had the opportunity to participate in the intervention during their lunch break. A longitudinal, three-wave intervention study design was used with paper-and-pencil-based questionnaires to collect data from a non-probability purposive sample consisting of an experimental (n = 9) and a control group (n = 17). The independent sample t-test was utilised to test for statistical differences between the mean scores, and an effect size was calculated with Cohen's d value. The results indicated that play at work can help employees to psychologically detach more during their lunch break, furthermore the results showed that the employees' team performance also increased when they participated in the play at work intervention. By relying on previous research regarding psychological detachment it can be stated that play at work can also have an effect on employees' workplace relationship conflicts, well-being, anxiety, role conflict, job demands and work engagement levels. As play at work increased the team performance of employees, play at work can also enhance the profitability of an organisation.
