In the urban environment dust particles form a major part of air pollutants and can affect the physiological functions of the plant. Plants proved to be very powerful tools in as-sessing environmental pollution because of their wide distribution. Festuca ovina is a durable plant with specific habitat requirements, but there is no data on physiological response on traffic pollution. The purpose of the study was to measure impact of traffic pollution for Festuca ovina plant to different distance from the source of pollution (highway) basing on physiological markers and microscopical ob-servations. 3 hypoteses were formulated concerning the effect of distance from the source of pollution to the reaction of plants; difference of physiological reaction of leaves and roots to stress conditions; roots as a better indicator of urban pollutions. Current results suggest that Festuca ovina could serve as an effective plant marker for monitoring traffic pollution. The combination of high flavonoid production and reduced free proline concentration in leaves were observed and may suggests the potential tolerance of this plant species to traffic highway pollution. Ammonia content may be a good indicator or ROS accumulation in leaves and roots of plants according to the distance of the pollution source. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Synanthropic flora (weeds, i.e., spontaneously developed plants) are plants that accompany humans, appearing as a result of anthropopressure as well as after its cessation. The potential of synanthropic flora in shaping green areas usually brings many measurable benefits that depend on land management in cities. This study aimed to determine the preferences and attitudes of adults towards synanthropic flora in settlement units. This article presents survey results from 447 city residents. The obtained results were statistically analyzed using the k-means clustering method to identify segments of respondents with similar attitudes and preferences toward synanthropic flora. Mann–Whitney U tests were employed to determine statistical differences in the demographic variables among the analyzed clusters of respondents. Additionally, multiple regression analysis was performed to identify the opinions and attitudes towards synanthropic flora that may influence their greater acceptance in the vicinity of residential areas. The results obtained in the multiple regression analysis indicate that the respondent's evaluation of the level of support for the introduction of more synanthropic vegetation into urban greenery (Yw) grows with the increase in the acceptance of synanthropic plants' occurrence in the surroundings. The hydrotechnical construction, damming up the riverbed, creates two zones of hydraulic conditions, which affect the water discharge and sediment transport routes, as well as plant species composition, as a habitat answer to the hydraulic regime. This study examined the diversity of the vascular and rush plant species upstream and downstream of the weir. The Świder River, a small lowland river in Central Poland, was chosen as a study area. An examined river reach was located at 21 + 340 kilometers of the Świder River. Vegetation properties, plant species, and granulometric fraction composition were recognized at chosen cross-sections along the riverbed where specific hydraulic conditions could be met. The spatial distribution of vortices, smooth or rapid flow areas, and velocity pulsations influence the biotic environment, thereby affecting the species composition, quantity, and plant diversity. In the headwater zone, an environment more favorable to grain accumulation could be met, which was mixed with organic components in an agricultural catchment area. This phenomenon leads to creating favorable conditions for increased biodiversity. The present study demonstrated that small weirs could positively affect the composition of vascular and rush plants. Urban forests are basic elements in the ecological structure of cities. The dendroflora and herb species of oak-hornbeam forests in a medium-sized city type was studied and compared with nature reserves located outside the city, based on phytosociological analysis using the Braun-Blanquet percentage-of-cover scale. More inconsistent trees and shrubs occurred in the urban forests and some tree species showed poor renewal. The herb plant species have become more frequent in nature reserves, but we were not able to detect significant differences regarding species inconsistent with the habitat. Herb plants in urban forests preferred more light and fertile habitats. Myrmecochory was the most common seed dispersal. Nowadays, the conservation of urban biota is of great importance and more sustainable approaches towards management of nature are needed. The paper is focused on diversity of flora in historical parks on example of Sokolow Podlaski Region. The research was done in 20 historical parks. Parks were established in XVIII-XIX centuries (landscape historic style) on oak-hornbeam habitat. Nowadays these parks are without anthropic pressure since II World War. The methodology included two research stages: field research and indoor studies. Research assumed flora and syntaxonomic analysis. The field research was done in years 2010-2012, including 70 phytosociological records on the area 500 m2. Plant species are represented by natural, semi-natural and synantropical vegetation.
