Nuclear Theory - Abstract
The off-shell aspects of the one-pion-exchange potential (OPEP) are discussed. Relativistic Hamiltonians containing relativistic kinetic energy, relativistic OPEP with various off-shell behaviors and Argonne $v_{18}$ short-range parameterization are used to study the deuteron properties. The OPEP off-shell behaviors depend on whether a pseudovector or pseudoscalar pion-nucleon coupling is used and are characterized by a parameter $\mu$. We study potentials having $\mu$=-1, 0 and +1 and we find that they are nearly unitarily equivalent. We also find that a nonrelativistic Hamiltonian containing local potentials and nonrelativistic kinetic energy provides a good approximation to a Hamiltonian containing a relativistic OPEP based on pseudovector pion-nucleon coupling and relativistic kinetic energy., Comment: 23 pages, RevTeX, 6 PostScript figures, submitted to Physical Review C

Nuclear Theory - Abstract
Relativistic Hamiltonians are defined as the sum of relativistic one-body kinetic energy, two- and three-body potentials and their boost corrections. In this work we use the variational Monte Carlo method to study two kinds of relativistic effects in the binding energy of 3H and 4He. The first is due to the nonlocalities in the relativistic kinetic energy and relativistic one-pion exchange potential (OPEP), and the second is from boost interaction. The OPEP contribution is reduced by about 15% by the relativistic nonlocality, which may also have significant effects on pion exchange currents. However, almost all of this reduction is canceled by changes in the kinetic energy and other interaction terms, and the total effect of the nonlocalities on the binding energy is very small. The boost interactions, on the other hand, give repulsive contributions of 0.4 (1.9) MeV in 3H (4He) and account for 37% of the phenomenological part of the three-nucleon interaction needed in the nonrelativistic Hamiltonians., Comment: 33 pages, RevTeX, 11 PostScript figures, submitted to Physical Review C

Nuclear Theory - Abstract
The two-nucleon density distributions in states with isospin $T=0$, spin $S$=1 and projection $M_S$=0 and $\pm$1 are studied in $^2$H, $^{3,4}$He, $^{6,7}$Li and $^{16}$O. The equidensity surfaces for $M_S$=0 distributions are found to be toroidal in shape, while those of $M_S$=$\pm$1 have dumbbell shapes at large density. The dumbbell shapes are generated by rotating tori. The toroidal shapes indicate that the tensor correlations have near maximal strength at $r<2$ fm in all these nuclei. They provide new insights and simple explanations of the structure and electromagnetic form factors of the deuteron, the quasi-deuteron model, and the $dp$, $dd$ and $\alpha d$ $L$=2 ($D$-wave) components in $^3$He, $^4$He and $^6$Li. The toroidal distribution has a maximum-density diameter of $\sim$1 fm and a half-maximum density thickness of $\sim$0.9 fm. Many realistic models of nuclear forces predict these values, which are supported by the observed electromagnetic form factors of the deuteron, and also predicted by classical Skyrme effective Lagrangians, related to QCD in the limit of infinite colors. Due to the rather small size of this structure, it could have a revealing relation to certain aspects of QCD., Comment: 35 pages in REVTeX, 25 PostScript figures

Nuclear Theory - Abstract
In relativistic Hamiltonians the two-nucleon interaction is expressed as a sum of $\tilde{v}_{ij}$, the interaction in the ${\bf P}_{ij}=0$ rest frame, and the ``boost interaction'' $\delta v({\bf P}_{ij})$ which depends upon the total momentum ${\bf P}_{ij}$ and vanishes in the rest frame. The $\delta v$ can be regarded as a sum of four terms: $\delta v_{RE}$, $\delta v_{LC}$, $\delta v_{TP}$ and $\delta v_{QM}$; the first three originate from the relativistic energy-momentum relation, Lorentz contraction and Thomas precession, while the last is purely quantum. The contributions of $\delta v_{RE}$ and $\delta v_{LC}$ have been previously calculated with the variational Monte Carlo method for $^3$H and $^4$He. In this brief note we report the results of similar calculations for the contributions of $\delta v_{TP}$ and $\delta v_{QM}$. These are found to be rather small., Comment: 7 pages, P-94-09-079

Nuclear Theory - Abstract
Relativistic Hamiltonians are defined as the sum of relativistic one-body kinetic energies, two- and many-body interactions and their boost corrections. We review the calculation of the boost correction of the two-body interaction from commutation relations of the Poincare group and show that its important terms can be easily understood from classical relativistic mechanics. The boost corrections for scalar- and vector- meson-exchange interactions, obtained from relativistic field theory, are shown to be in agreement with the results of the classical calculation. These boost corrections are also shown to be necessary to reproduce the known results of relativistic mean-field theories. We conclude with comments on the relativistic boost operator for the wave function of a nucleus. Several of the results presented in this pedagogical article are known. We hope that a better understanding of relativistic Hamiltonians and their relation to relativistic field theory is obtained by putting them together with a few new relations., Comment: 21 pages, P-94-09-080

- Abstract
Objective: Stillbirth is a potentially preventable complication of pregnancy. Identifying women at high risk of stillbirth can guide decisions on the need for closer surveillance and timing of delivery in order to prevent fetal death. Prognostic models have been developed to predict the risk of stillbirth, but none has yet been validated externally. In this study, we externally validated published prediction models for stillbirth using individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis to assess their predictive performance. Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE, DH-DATA and AMED databases were searched from inception to December 2020 to identify studies reporting stillbirth prediction models. Studies that developed or updated prediction models for stillbirth for use at any time during pregnancy were included. IPD from cohorts within the International Prediction of Pregnancy Complications (IPPIC) Network were used to validate externally the identified prediction models whose individual variables were available in the IPD. The risk of bias of the models and cohorts was assessed using the Prediction study Risk Of Bias ASsessment Tool (PROBAST). The discriminative performance of the models was evaluated using the C-statistic, and calibration was assessed using calibration plots, calibration slope and calibration-in-the-large. Performance measures were estimated separately in each cohort, as well as summarized across cohorts using random-effects meta-analysis. Clinical utility was assessed using net benefit. Results: Seventeen studies reporting the development of 40 prognostic models for stillbirth were identified. None of the models had been previously validated externally, and the full model equation was reported for only one-fifth (20%, 8/40) of the models. External validation was possible for three of these models, using IPD from 19 cohorts (491 201 pregnant women) within the IPPIC Network database. Based on evaluation of the model development studies, all three models had an overa

Significance\ud \ud Communicating in ways that motivate engagement in social distancing remains a critical global public health priority during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study tested motivational qualities of messages about social distancing (those that promoted choice and agency vs. those that were forceful and shaming) in 25,718 people in 89 countries. The autonomy-supportive message decreased feelings of defying social distancing recommendations relative to the controlling message, and the controlling message increased controlled motivation, a less effective form of motivation, relative to no message. Message type did not impact intentions to socially distance, but people’s existing motivations were related to intentions. Findings were generalizable across a geographically diverse sample and may inform public health communication strategies in this and future global health emergencies.\ud \ud \ud \ud Abstract\ud \ud Finding communication strategies that effectively motivate social distancing continues to be a global public health priority during the COVID-19 pandemic. This cross-country, preregistered experiment (n = 25,718 from 89 countries) tested hypotheses concerning generalizable positive and negative outcomes of social distancing messages that promoted personal agency and reflective choices (i.e., an autonomy-supportive message) or were restrictive and shaming (i.e., a controlling message) compared with no message at all. Results partially supported experimental hypotheses in that the controlling message increased controlled motivation (a poorly internalized form of motivation relying on shame, guilt, and fear of social consequences) relative to no message. On the other hand, the autonomy-supportive message lowered feelings of defiance compared with the controlling message, but the controlling message did not differ from receiving no message at all. Unexpectedly, messages did not influence autonomous motivation (a highly internalized form of motivation relying on one’s core values) or behavioral intentions. Results supported hypothesized associations between people’s existing autonomous and controlled motivations and self-reported behavioral intentions to engage in social distancing. Controlled motivation was associated with more defiance and less long-term behavioral intention to engage in social distancing, whereas autonomous motivation was associated with less defiance and more short- and long-term intentions to social distance. Overall, this work highlights the potential harm of using shaming and pressuring language in public health communication, with implications for the current and future global health challenges.

Objective Stillbirth is a potentially preventable complication of pregnancy. Methods MEDLINE, EMBASE, DH-DATA and AMED databases were searched from inception to December 2020 to identify studies reporting stillbirth prediction models. Results Seventeen studies reporting the development of 40 prognostic models for stillbirth were identified. None of the models had been previously validated externally, and the full model equation was reported for only one-fifth (20%, 8/40) of the models. External validation was possible for three of these models, using IPD from 19 cohorts (491 201 pregnant women) within the IPPIC Network database. Based on evaluation of the model development studies, all three models had an overall high risk of bias, according to PROBAST. In the IPD meta-analysis, the models had summary C-statistics ranging from 0.53 to 0.65 and summary calibration slopes ranging from 0.40 to 0.88, with risk predictions that were generally too extreme compared with the observed risks. The models had little to no clinical utility, as assessed by net benefit. However, there remained uncertainty in the performance of some models due to small available sample sizes. Conclusions The three validated stillbirth prediction models showed generally poor and uncertain predictive performance in new data, with limited evidence to support their clinical application. The findings suggest methodological shortcomings in their development, including overfitting. Further research is needed to further validate these and other models, identify stronger prognostic factors and develop more robust prediction models. (c) 2021 The Authors. The development of an enzyme-mediated reaction for the first-year general, organic, and biological chemistry (GOB) teaching laboratory is of significant importance so that the factors that affect enzyme-mediated reactions can be adequately demonstrated, reinforcing the lecture portion of the GOB course. Some of the factors that affect these types of reactions include, but are not limited to, enzyme concentration, substrate concentration, and temperature. The experiment reported herein utilizes porcine pancreatic lipase (PPL) to catalyze the hydrolysis of triglycerides within cream. The amount of time required to afford triglyceride hydrolysis was probed by altering the concentration of PPL and the temperature at which the reaction was performed. In addition, to provide the students with a hands-on demonstration of how bile salts aid in the digestion of triglycerides, various trials were performed to explore the effect of altering bile salt concentration. Finally, the data obtained from the enzyme concentration trials, the temperature trials, and the bile salt concentration trials were graphed to provide a visual representation of how triglyceride hydrolysis, mediated by PPL, is affected by these various factors.

Aerliceaster nexosusn. gen. n. sp. (Echinodermata), one of the oldest of known asteroids, is based on six specimens from the Floian (Early Ordovician) Garden City Formation of Idaho, andKolataster perplexusn. gen. n. sp. is based on two specimens from the Sandian (Late Ordovician) Mifflin Formation of Illinois. Although the asterozoan skeleton is subdivided into few ossicular categories, evolutionary derivations of all the categories are not fully established, and therefore published evaluations differ. Beginning with phylogenetic work placing asteroid ancestry within the Somasteroidea together with the new taxa described herein, aspects of early asteroid morphology are evaluated and ambiguities in need of further study identified. Uncertainties are considered to be founded in rapid early asterozoan diversification and the scanty fossil record.UUID:http://zoobank.org/b43d07cc-c8fb-4a84-bc6f-40aa6e0daea2

Contains fulltext : 284232.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) The COVID-19 pandemic (and its aftermath) highlights a critical need to communicate health information effectively to the global public. Given that subtle differences in information framing can have meaningful effects on behavior, behavioral science research highlights a pressing question: Is it more effective to frame COVID-19 health messages in terms of potential losses (e.g., "If you do not practice these steps, you can endanger yourself and others") or potential gains (e.g., "If you practice these steps, you can protect yourself and others")? Collecting data in 48 languages from 15,929 participants in 84 countries, we experimentally tested the effects of message framing on COVID-19-related judgments, intentions, and feelings. Loss- (vs. gain-) framed messages increased self-reported anxiety among participants cross-nationally with little-to-no impact on policy attitudes, behavioral intentions, or information seeking relevant to pandemic risks. These results were consistent across 84 countries, three variations of the message framing wording, and 560 data processing and analytic choices. Thus, results provide an empirical answer to a global communication question and highlight the emotional toll of loss-framed messages. Critically, this work demonstrates the importance of considering unintended affective consequences when evaluating nudge-style interventions. 26 p.

Falloaster anquiroisitusnew genus new species (Asterozoa, Echinodermata) is described from the Floian (Early Ordovician) Garden City Formation of Idaho. The new taxon is known from a single small specimen. Because of weathering, remaining disk elements are incomplete. Dorsal surfaces of the ambulacral ossicles of two arms are available, one well preserved, whereas those of a third arm expose the ambulacrals essentially as they would appear in ventral view. Ambulacral ossicles were all but entirely lost on the remaining two arms.Albeit asterozoan,F. anquiroisitusis not assignable at the class level. It is suggestive of the Asteroidea in presence of a domal disk, five abruptly tapering triangular, arched arms, and ambulacral ossicles vaulted to form a furrow. Ambulacral morphology, including the presence of very large podial pores, is unlike that of early asteroids. In addition, no adambulacral or other virgal-series derivatives are present; ambital framework ossicles are absent; a single series of enlarged, plate-like arm ossicles, one series on each side of the arm, come together at the arm midline; and the plate-like series were supported laterally by recurved ambulacral margins. Only remnants of the disk near the periphery survive, these of overall expression unlike any other echinoderm, including asterozoans. The mouth frame is unknown.Falloaster anquiroisitusis argued to represent an extinct lineage apart from the four recognized asterozoan classes, thereby joining a limited number of other problematic early Asterozoa.UUID:http://zoobank.org/a13a5417-44b6-4ac3-90cf-9dc8fb5902bd

- Abstract
Objective: Stillbirth is a potentially preventable complication of pregnancy. Identifying women at risk can guide decisions on closer surveillance or timing of birth to prevent fetal death.Prognostic models have been developed to predict the risk of stillbirth, but none have yet been externally validated. We externally validated published prediction models for stillbirth using individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis to assess their predictive performance. Methods: We searched Medline, EMBASE, DH-DATA and AMED databases from inception to December 2020 to identify stillbirth prediction models. We included studies that developed or updated prediction models for stillbirth for use at any time during pregnancy. IPD from cohorts within the International Prediction of Pregnancy Complication (IPPIC) Network were used to externally validate the identified prediction models whose individual variables were available in the IPD. We assessed the risk of bias of the models and IPD using PROBAST, and reported discriminative performance using the C-statistic, and calibration performance using calibration plots, calibration slopeand calibration-in-the-large. We estimated performance measures separately in each study, and then summarised across studies using random-effects meta-analysis. Clinical utility was assessed using net benefit. Results: We identified 17 studies reporting the development of 40 prognostic models for stillbirth. None of the models were previously externally validated, and only a fifth (20%, 8/40) reported the full model equation. We were able to validate three of these models using the IPD from 19 cohort studies (491,201 pregnant women) within the IPPIC Network database. Based on evaluating their development studies, all three models had an overall high risk of bias according to PROBAST. In our IPD meta-analysis, the models had summary C-statistics ranging from 0.53 to 0.65; summary calibration slopes of 0.40to 0.88, and generally with observed risks predictions that were too extreme compared to observed risks; and little to no clinical utility as assessed by net benefit. However, there remained uncertainty in performance for some models due to small available sample sizes. Conclusion: The three validated models generally showed poor and uncertain predictive performancein new data, with limited evidence to support their clinical application. Findings suggest methodological shortcomings in their development including overfitting of models. Further research is needed to further validate these and other models, identify stronger prognostic factors, and to develop more robust prediction models

Developmental biology -- Research ,Biological sciences - Abstract
At fertilization, eggs undergo a cytoplasmic free [Ca.sup.2+] rise, which is necessary for stimulating embryogenesis. In starfish eggs, studies using inhibitors designed against vertebrate proteins have shown that this [Ca.sup.2+] rise requires an egg Src family kinase (SFK) that directly or indirectly activates phospholipase C-[gamma] (PLC-[gamma]) to produce [IP.sub.3], which triggers [Ca.sup.2+] release from the egg's endoplasmic reticulum (ER) [reviewed in Semin. Cell Dev. Biol. 12 (2001) 45]. To examine in more detail the endogenous factors in starfish eggs that are required for [Ca.sup.2+] release at fertilization, an oocyte cDNA encoding PLC-[gamma], was isolated from the starfish Asterina miniata. This cDNA, designated AmPLC-[gamma] encodes a protein with 49% identity to mammalian PLC-[gamma]1. A 58-kDa Src family kinase interacted with recombinant AmPLC-[gamma] Src homology 2 (SH2) domains in a specific, fertilization-responsive manner. Immunoprecipitations of sea urchin egg PLC-[gamma] using an affinity-purified antibody directed against AmPLC-[gamma], revealed fertilization-dependent phosphorylation of PLC-[gamma]. Injecting starfish eggs with the tandem SH2 domains of AmPLC-[gamma] (which inhibits PLC-[gamma] activation) specifically inhibited [Ca.sup.2+] release at fertilization. These results indicate that an endogenous starfish egg PLC-[gamma] interacts with an egg SFK and mediates [Ca.sup.2+] release at fertilization via a PLC-[gamma] SH2 domain-mediated mechanism.
