The success of the UK off-road market coupled with the decline of the GTi market has seen the conception of the all-roader class, a combination of the best features of off-roaders and on-roaders. The Ford Maverick 2.4 GLX, Chrysler Jeep Cherokee 2.5 Sport and the Vauxhall Frontera 2.0 Sport are the front runners for this class, with the Maverick emerging as the best value for money. However, the on-road performance of all three cars is disappointing and questions the concept of the all-roader class. Users with 15,000 pounds sterling to spend on a car that will be seen as a statement of style as an alternative to the GTi would do well to opt for a a Renault Clio RSi, a BMW or a Mondeo.
