This study analyzes the translation of the Boyer scholarship model (with an emphasis on the scholarship of engagement) into departmental and college-level culture at a regional comprehensive institution. Through an analysis of promotion and tenure documents, the authors concluded that adoption of Boyer's model was a semi-radical process, characterized by unique definitional, conceptual, and logistical challenges that resulted in a diverse array of practices and approaches across the university's departments and colleges.

Peer review is by no means a routine process for traditional, or basic, research. Even so, peer review is even less routinized for other forms of scholarship. In 1990, Ernest Boyer called for a reconsideration of scholarship and extended the definition to be inclusive of non-traditional modes of scholarly production and delivery. However, peer review processes for non-traditional scholarship modes have proven difficult to assess and implement. An examination of promotion and tenure documents at a regional comprehensive university reveals the various strategies departments use to provide peer review for work faculty consider to be non-traditional. The study found five models for peer review of non-traditional scholarship that have implications for other institutions seeking to recognize and reward non-traditional scholarship.

This article reports on an examination of the distinctive second-generation challenges and opportunities faced by an early institutional adopter of the Boyer model of scholarship. Following the first cohort of faculty to be reviewed for tenure and promotion based on these criteria, we report the results of a survey designed to determine the perceptions of faculty and administrators of the degree to which emerging forms of scholarship had been integrated into the university culture including factors such as institutional identity, support structures, and faculty participation. This case study sheds light on the process of adaptation at this single institution and provides glimpses of how cultural change might occur across higher education.

The distinctive traits of COVID-19, which were different from other viral pathogens, quickly compelled the World Health Organization (WHO) to announce a pandemic. Many affected countries responded with different approaches to the pandemic. The disease became prevalent in the U.S. with a short delay after Asian and European regions were infected; however, the initial impacts of COVID-19 were massive, and its effects were beyond anyone's expectations. The pandemic caused new situations for various markets, including the construction industry, and demanded additional health and safety regulations. In addition, the economic effect of COVID-19 on the construction industry became another mediumand long-term challenge for construction managers and executives. In order to examine the initial perceptions of construction professionals about the COVID-19 impacts, a study was conducted during its early appearance in the U.S. during the spring of 2020. The objective of this study was to evaluate the construction professionals' perceptions of pandemics and further investigate the possibility and characteristics of an impact model during pandemics. A model was developed to highlight areas and aspects that are impacted by COVID-19 related to construction companies. The model examination was followed by a quantitative method to gather data and analyze the responses. An online survey was conducted in 2020 to verify the validity of the proposed model. The model maps out environments, domains, and factors impacting construction companies during pandemics. The implication of this paper is to realize the early perceptions of construction professionals about pandemics and the necessity of an impact model to handle the negative effects of any global disturbances. The lack of broadband in many rural and Tribal communities in the U.S. is widely recognized, but there are also claims of a lack of broadband availability in predominantly Minority and urban communities, sometimes labeled digital redlining or digital discrimination. Motivated by such claims, the bi-partisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 includes a provision addressing digital discrimination and directing the Federal Communications Commission to write rules implementing the statutory provision. The Commission's rules adopt two legal discrimination standards including intentional discrimination (differential treatment) and disparate impact (differential effect). Using data from the Commission's new broadband fabric data, we test for differences in broadband availability between predominantly minority and majority neighborhoods (measured as census block groups) and find no evidence of digital discrimination against minorities. • In the U.S. there are also claims of a lack of broadband availability in predominantly Minority and urban communities. • Recent legislation in the U.S. includes a provision addressing digital discrimination. • The Commission's rules adopt two discrimination standards including intentional discrimination and disparate impact. • A test for differences in broadband availability between predominantly minority and majority neighborhoods is conducted. • No evidence of digital discrimination against minorities is found.
