Digital Twins (DTs) hold significant promise in addressing the challenges faced by food supply chains (FSCs). This paper aims to provide critical insights into the potential for Digital Twins to meet the key challenges of the FSC and establish a comprehensive conceptual framework for their implementation. Following a systematic literature review (SLR), the study identified 81 peer-reviewed, high-quality papers published over the last decade (2012–2023). The typology-driven thematic analysis emphasises the emergent nature of DTs within FSCs, highlighting their key characteristics including monitoring, real-time simulation, and scenario analysis. The identified characteristics, applications, implementation drivers and barriers of Digital Twin form the basis for a novel conceptual framework for implementing DTs in FSCs. Leveraging insights from Innovation Adoption Theory and the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework, the study outlines a structured five step implementation process divided into three stages. Notably, technology assessment and performance evaluation emerge as two innovative steps necessary for the successful implementation of DTs specifically, not previously considered by the theory. The study identifies promising avenues for future research. BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: School meals are an important source of nutrition for children and have been found to help mitigate food insecurity. This study evaluated the association between food insecurity and school meal participation and whether parental perceptions about school meals differ by food security status. METHODS: In May 2022, 1110 Californian parents of K-12 students shared their perceptions about school meals, including meal quality, healthiness, stigma, and benefits, as well as their childs participation in school meals, in an online survey. Household food security was determined using the USDA 6-item module. Logistic and Poisson regression models were used for analysis. RESULTS: The prevalence of household food insecurity was 56.2% (69.6% in households of students eligible for free meals, 55.9% in reduced-price, and 38.3% in non-eligible). Many of the reported benefits of school meals (saving families money and time) were equally highly endorsed by parents with and without food insecurity (p > 0.05). Parents reporting food insecurity had less favorable perceptions of school meals and perceived more stigma (p < 0.05). Food insecurity was positively associated with breakfast participation, especially among elementary school students and students not eligible for free or reduced-price meals (FRPMs) (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Food insecurity is prevalent among California families with school-age children, even in families not eligible for federal FRPMs. Food-insecure households have more negative perceptions of school meals and experience more stigma, though they also report higher breakfast participation. Improving school meal quality and appeal, ensuring parents are familiar with meal quality and healthfulness, and reducing stigma may ease food insecurity while improving childrens health.

ObjectivesUnhealthy diets and inadequate exercise are associated with chronic health conditions and excess mortality. Older African Americans do not meet dietary and exercise guidelines, and this may have worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic due to individual and environmental factors, including food insecurity. Studies evaluating these dynamics are essential for developing interventions. This narrative details a study protocol and data collection experiences during the pandemic.MethodsParticipants > 55 years African American old completed detailed food frequency, exercise, and food access questionnaires between October 2020 and July 2021. Observations of the study administrators (authors of this manuscript) for the duration of the study are presented. Details on the study design and reflections on the opportunities, challenges, and lessons learned are summarized. Future manuscripts will report data analysis of study findings.ResultsA total of 123 older African American adults participated in the study, and 118 (70% female) completed all three questionnaires. More than 50% of the participants had at least two primary chronic conditions. About 85% were fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Applying community-based participatory approaches, leveraging partnerships, and exercising flexibility approaches were pivotal to successfully implementing the study protocol.ConclusionsDespite challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, detailed data on older African American adults' diet and exercise habits were obtained. Our study design and experiences will benefit future researchers. More importantly, results from our study will inform interventions and policies aimed at minimizing consequences associated with poor diet and exercise habits during the pandemic among this vulnerable population.

Food insecurity is highly prevalent and linked to poorer diet and worse metabolic outcomes. Food insecurity can be stressful, and could elicit chronic psychological and physiological stress. In this study, we tested whether stress could be used to identify those at highest risk for worse diet and metabolic measures from food insecurity. Specifically, we hypothesized that cortisol (a physiological marker of stress) and perceived psychological stress would amplify the link between food insecurity and hyperpalatable food intake as well as metabolic measures. In a sample of 624 Black and White women aged 36-43 who participated in the NHLBI Growth and Health Study's midlife assessment, we assessed associations between food insecurity with hyperpalatable food intake (high fat + high sodium foods; high fat + high sugar foods; and high carbohydrate + high sodium foods), and metabolic measures (fasting glucose, insulin resistance, and waist circumference). We found that food insecurity was associated with higher levels of perceived stress (R2 = 0.09), and greater intake of high fat + high sugar (hyperpalatable) foods (R2 = 0.03). In those with higher cumulative cortisol (as indexed by hair cortisol), food insecurity was associated with higher levels of fasting glucose. Neither cortisol nor perceived stress moderated any other relationships, and neither variable functioned as a mediator in sensitivity analyses. Given these largely null findings, further research is needed to understand the role stress plays in the chronic health burdens of food insecurity.

The severity of food insecurity in Ethiopia is among the worst globally, with record-breaking food assistance needs by various factors. This study tries to uncover various aspects of food security related to food availability, food access, food utilization and food stability dimensions of food security. The study was executed in the west Hararghe zone of the Oromia region of Ethiopia. Its main objective was to determine the food security status of households, with specific objectives aiming at computing individual daily kilo calorie intake, determining the average food requirement, comparing the relative risk between food secure and insecure households and identifying factors that affect household food security status. A multistage sampling procedure, involving the purposive selection of; the Zone and Woreda, and a simple random selection of households, to draw the required number of representative sample respondents, was adopted. Hence, from 4163 total households, 134 were selected for collecting primary data. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, relative risk analysis using Cohorts and independent tests using ANOVA. Food security status was measured using the Household Food Balance Model (HFBM). Using this model, the study obtained 1973 kilo calories per individual per day intake and 2108 kilo calorie as their requirement, which indicated households were energy deficient by 135 kilo calorie with [.sup.2-sided]-value < 0.1 critical level (t= -1.747, df =133 & [sig.sub.2-sided]. 0.083). Independent test results showed that farm income (at p-value < 0.1), gross product (at p-value < 0.05), age of household head (at p-value < 0.1), years of owning land (at p < 0.1) and family size (at p-value < 0.1) contributed significantly to food security status. Cross-tabulation showed a linear relationship between food security and higher education level (at p-value < 0.05), which urges a concern in improving farming societies' literacy to the desired level. In the study areas, about 91.8% of the population produces crops depending on the seasonal rainfall and their daily kilo calorie consumed depends on it; this is statistically correlated with the food insecurity problem at p-value < 0.1 critical level (lambada = 1.75 & sig. = 0.08). Therefore, to tackle the food insecurity problem, alternative method of crop production should be devised such as the establishment of irrigation schemes, water harvesting structures, and water conservation practices, among others. Food supply chains hold significant embodied carbon emissions that need to be mitigated and neutralized. This study aimed to explore the historical Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions associated with household food consumption at a local scale i.e. across the eight English regions and the four nations that comprise the United Kingdom (UK). UK EatWell guidelines were used to explore the potential change in emissions and food costs in a scenario of transitions to healthier diets across the study areas. These emissions were calculated based on food consumption data before the advent of the Covid-pandemic i.e. between the years 2001 and 2018. Spatial data analysis was used to explore if the study areas had any significant correlations with respect to the emissions during the study period. The results displayed a potential reduction in GHG emissions for all study areas in the explored scenario. Further impacts include a reduction in household food costs across a majority of the areas during the study period. However, a consistent trend of significant correlations among the study areas was absent. This study concludes that local or regional policymaking should take precedence over national regulations to achieve healthier diets that are both carbon-neutral and affordable for the households. Ensuring healthy and sustainable food systems in increasing social, economic, and ecological change is a key global priority to protect human and environmental health. Seafood is an essential component of these food systems and a critical source of nutrients, especially in coastal communities. However, despite rapid transformations in aquatic food systems, and our urgent need to understand them, there is a dearth of data connecting harvested food production to actualized food consumption. Many analyses suggest institutional, legal, or technological innovations to improve food systems, but few have analyzed the pathways through which people already gain access to nutritious food. Here, using a random forest model and cluster analysis of a nationally representative data set from Kiribati, we operationalize access theory to trace the flows of consumptive benefit in a fisheries-based food system. We demonstrate that the market access mechanism is the key mechanism mediating seafood access in Kiribati, but importantly, the highest seafood consumption households showed lower market access, pointing to the importance of non-market acquisition (e.g., home production and gifting). We reveal six distinct household strategies that employ different sets of access mechanisms to ensure high levels of local seafood consumption in different contexts. We demonstrate the impacts of these strategies on the composition of household seafoods consumed, stressing the need to support these existing successful strategies. Finally, we point to key policy and management insights (e.g., improved infrastructure, shifts in species management) that may be more effective in reinforcing these existing pathways than commonly proposed food system interventions.

BACKGROUND: Food insecurity and metabolic diseases both disproportionately affect Hispanic children. Cross-sectional studies have linked food insecurity with adverse cardiometabolic markers, including elevated plasma triglycerides and glucose concentrations. However, the association between changes in food insecurity and changes in cardiometabolic markers in children remains to be explored. Furthermore, few studies have assessed the impact of school-based nutrition interventions on household food insecurity. OBJECTIVE: The objectives of this study are to assess the effect of the TX Sprouts intervention on household food insecurity and to examine the association between changes in household food insecurity and changes in cardiometabolic markers over 1 academic year. METHODS: This secondary analysis used data from TX Sprouts, a cluster-randomized school-based gardening, cooking, and nutrition trial. The study enrolled 3rd-5th-grade students from 16 schools that served primarily (>50%) Hispanic families with low income in Austin, TX. Participants (n = 619) provided household food insecurity data and fasting lipid panels at both baseline and postintervention, ∼9 mo following. RESULTS: There was no intervention effect on household food insecurity. Independent of the intervention, a 1-point increase in food insecurity, indicative of becoming more food insecure, was associated with a 2.61 mg/dL increase in triglycerides (P = 0.001; 95% CI: 1.04, 4.19) at follow-up. Children who were food insecure at baseline and became food secure at follow-up had a mean 5.05 mg/dL decrease in triglycerides compared with a 7.50 mg/dL increase in triglycerides in children who remained food insecure throughout (95% CI: -23.40, -1.71, P = 0.023). There were no other associations between changes in food insecurity and cardiometabolic markers. CONCLUSION: Although the intervention did not improve food insecurity, reductions in food insecurity over 9 mo were associated with improved cardiometabolic markers in high-risk children, emphasizing the need for interventions targeting food insecurity. The global population consumes more seafood from aquaculture today than from capture fisheries and although the aquaculture industry continues to grow, both seafood sectors will continue to be important to the global food supply into the future. As farming continues to expand into ocean systems, understanding how wild populations and fisheries will interact with farms will be increasingly important to informing sustainable ocean planning and management. Using a spatially explicit population and fishing model we simulate several impacts from ocean aquaculture (i.e., aggregation, protection from fishing, and impacts on fitness) to evaluate the mechanisms underlying interactions between aquaculture, wild populations and fisheries. We find that aggregation of species to farms can increase the benefits of protection from fishing that a farm provides and can have greater impacts on more mobile species. Splitting total farm area into smaller farms can benefit fishery catches, whereas larger farms can provide greater ecological benefits through conservation of wild populations. Our results provide clear lessons on how to design and co-manage expanding ocean aquaculture along with wild capture ecosystem management to benefit fisheries or conservation objectives.

In the United States, college students experience disproportionate food insecurity (FI) rates compared to the national prevalence. The experience of acute and chronic FI has been associated with negative physical and mental health outcomes in this population. This narrative review aims to summarize the current methodologies for assessing health outcomes associated with the experience of FI in college students in the United States. To date, assessing the health outcomes of FI has predominately consisted of subjective assessments, such as self-reported measures of dietary intake, perceived health status, stress, depression, anxiety, and sleep behaviors. This review, along with the emergence of FI as an international public health concern, establishes the need for novel, innovative, and objective biomarkers to evaluate the short- and long-term impacts of FI on physical and mental health outcomes in college students. The inclusion of objective biomarkers will further elucidate the relationship between FI and a multitude of health outcomes to better inform strategies for reducing the pervasiveness of FI in the United States college student population.

The relationship between food insecurity and transactional sex is well recognized, but less is known about this relationship among adolescents. We analyzed cross-sectional baseline data from 3,130 female secondary students aged 12-19 enrolled in a three-arm, cluster randomized controlled trial to examine the association between food insecurity and transactional sex. The explanatory variable was food security and the outcome was ever engaging in transactional sex. Over one quarter (28.7%) reported any food insecurity and 1.9% of all participants (9.6% of sexually active participants) reported ever engaging in transactional sex. In adjusted models, ever experiencing any food insecurity was associated with a higher prevalence of ever transactional sex (PR: 1.60; 95% CI: 1.02, 2.49) compared to little to no food insecurity. These results provide insight into potential predictors of higher-risk sexual behavior in Rwanda; they also provide policy-makers with populations with whom to intervene on upstream determinants of transactional sex, notably poverty and food insecurity.

Despite the pivotal role of the egg industry in the food supply chain, the absence of regular surveys over the past decades in Taiwan has resulted in a dearth of national-level data. This study endeavours to address the research void surrounding biosecurity while scrutinizing the technical efficiency of egg producers in an environment where there is no mandate to phase out battery cage systems and farmers have the autonomy to adjust their feeding strategies. We employ the stochastic frontier analysis framework to analyse farm-level data derived from a 2020 national survey of the egg industry in Taiwan, which includes 547 commercial egg farms, with 519 still utilizing battery cages and 28 farms having transitioned into alternative systems to meet higher Farm Animal Welfare standards. Our findings reveal that egg farmers who prioritize the improvement of biosecurity demonstrate greater technical efficiency. When considering the rearing systems, there is no significant difference in egg production rates between conventional and alternative systems. However, conventional systems exhibit higher efficiency in terms of total output. In essence, elevating FAW standards does not exert a discernible impact on the productivity of laying hens. Background: Placement interventions, characterised by greater availability and more prominent positioning of healthy food products in supermarkets and other food stores, are associated with healthier patterns of purchasing and diet. The WRAPPED intervention study is a natural experiment that aims to evaluate a supermarket placement intervention to improve fruit and vegetable sales, household purchasing and the dietary quality of women and their children. Process evaluation, alongside the evaluation of outcomes, is essential to understand how interventions are implemented, under what circumstances they are effective, and their mechanisms of impact. This study aimed to assess the implementation of the WRAPPED placement intervention. Methods: The study adopted a convergent mixed-methods design. Quantitative data extracted from study store planograms (visual representation of stores and product placement) before and after intervention implementation were used to assess the positioning of fresh fruit and vegetables in the first aisle from the front entrance (intervention dose). The availability of fresh fruit and vegetables in each study store was examined from stock-keeping unit (SKU) figures before and after intervention implementation. An intervention implementation survey (IIS) completed with store managers and senior supervisors before and 1- and 6-months post-intervention implementation enabled examination of the context across study stores. Semi-structured interviews with store managers and senior supervisors provided qualitative data about store staff experiences and perceptions of the intervention between 6-months post-intervention implementation. Results: The placement intervention was implemented with close adherence to the study protocol. There were marked differences, post-intervention implementation, in the positioning of fresh fruit and vegetables in intervention stores compared with control stores: median distance in intervention stores was 8.0 m (IQR 5.0 to 10.0) compared with 23.8 m (IQR 21.0 to 30.0) in control stores (P < 0.0001). The availability of varieties of fresh fruit and vegetables increased in intervention stores post-intervention compared with control stores: median (IQR) among intervention stores was 72 (51, 84) compared with 56.5 (50, 62) in control stores (P = 0.03). The mean change from baseline to post-implementation in number of different fruit and vegetables available in intervention stores was 15.3 (SD 16.7) (P = 0.01). IIS and interview data demonstrated little difference between intervention and store contexts over time. Reinforcing factors for intervention implementation included: head-office leadership, store staff views and attitudes and increased awareness of the importance of offering healthy food in prominent locations within stores. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that placement interventions which promote fresh fruit and vegetables to customers in discount supermarkets can be implemented effectively. These findings are encouraging for the implementation of national food policies which modify retail environments to improve population purchasing and dietary patterns. As the current agricultural industry is facing several challenges such as climate changes and lack of qualified farmers, it is extremely necessary to ensure sustainable agriculture and food supply by smart farming (SF). The SF can assist farmers and the associated stakeholders in making correct decisions on improving the yield and quality of agricultural products. In this study, an SF system based on low‐cost Raspberry Pi and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies has been successfully implemented. Through the data items detected by sensors to deeply manage the planting process, the IoT‐enabled communication protocol under ISO standards of Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) was used. The bar charts of real‐time environmental parameters are presented on ThingsBoard to achieve the goal of data visualization. Meanwhile, a web server is built for the customized requirements, and the historical datasets are stored in the SQLite database system. Furthermore, a Petri net (PN) model was employed to detect all possible abnormal processes and to verify the feasibility and soundness of an IoT‐enabled system by using a software tool, WoPeD. Finally, the experimental results show that the plants cultivated by the proposed IoT‐enabled system are superior to those cultivated by the existing systems in many perspectives, including the monitoring distance, power consumption, precision, deadlock detection, and running time. Alternative meat (AltMeat), which includes plant-based and cultured meats, has the potential to improve the global food supply chain on numerous environmental and societal dimensions. Some of these gains, derived from lower animal meat consumption, could disrupt the supply chain of crops that are used as animal feed. This study evaluates the potential impact of animal meat displacement on major corn and soybean-producing regions, globally or in developed regions. We combine trading patterns and regional cost structures with potential crop demand reductions caused by animal meat displacement, to occur by 2032 on top of an Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (OECD-FAO) baseline projection without AltMeat. We find that potential animal meat displacement in the US and the European Union (EU) would have a minor effect on crop markets. Worldwide displacement, however, would lead to significantly lower corn and soybean prices relative to the baseline OECD-FAO projection without AltMeat. We explore quantitatively the heterogeneous impact of such developments in crop-producing regions. Background: Developing anti-obesity interventions targeting appetite or food intake, the primary driver of obesity, remains challenging. Here, we demonstrated that dietary γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) with GABA-degradation inhibitory drugs could be an anti-obesity intervention possessing strong food intake-suppressive and weight-loss effects. Methods: High-fat (HF)-diet-induced obese mice were divided into six groups receiving either the HF diet or the 2% GABA-HF diet with daily administration of PBS or the GABA-degradation inhibitory drugs, vigabatrin and ethanolamine-O-sulfate (EOS). In 24-h fast-induced refeeding, lean mice with a basal diet were used, and food intake was measured from 0.5 to 24 h after refeeding. Results: Coadministration of the 2% GABA-HF diet with vigabatrin or EOS significantly decreased food intake (−53%, −35%) and body weight (−22%, −16%) within 11 days in obese mice, along with a marked increase in plasma GABA levels. Mice receiving dietary GABA alone or the drugs alone exhibited no such effects. Hypothalamic GABA levels increased in drug-treated mice, regardless of diet. At 0.5 h after refeeding, food intake was similar in all groups. However, at 0.5 h, plasma GABA levels were markedly increased only in mice receiving coadministration of dietary GABA and the drugs, and their food intake was completely inhibited for over 6 h, while mice in other groups gradually increased their food intake. Conclusion: Combining dietary GABA with GABA-degradation inhibitory drugs effectively suppresses food intake and promotes weight loss in obese mice, primarily through increased plasma GABA availability. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the change in the Dietary Diversity (DD) Index of Maya women of reproductive age living in rural areas of the Western Highlands of Guatemala after nutrition, health, and agroecology interventions. Methods: This is a secondary analysis study on DD from two matched groups from three villages in the Lake Atitlan area in the department of Sololá. The first cohort was recruited in 2017 (sample of n = 77). The second cohort was recruited in 2020 (sample of n = 61). Both were followed until 2021. The program provided various resources for assistance for food production and home improvements (sessions from 2018 to 2022). Agroecology sessions were conducted in the test farm. Due to the COVID-19, adjustments were made to continue the education and training sessions. Results: Both cohort samples had a statistically significant increase in participants who consumed at least 15 g from five groups of foods (2017: p =.00002; 2020: p =.045). There was a statistically significant increase in mean food groups consumed daily (2017: p <.00001; 2020: p =.005). Conclusions for Practice: Implementing interventions that include nutrition, health, and agroecology practices in the long term has demonstrated a statistically significant increase in the Dietary Diversity Index of Maya women in their reproductive years living in rural villages in the Western Highlands. Significance: Indigenous Maya women face numerous health challenges, including stunting, poor nutrition, and maternal mortality. Low dietary diversity and limited food access in rural areas of Guatemala exacerbate these issues. The intervention in this study statistically increased the Dietary Diversity Index of Maya women, notably raising the consumption of Vitamin B and Vitamin A-rich foods, which are essential for maternal and fetal health. Carbon leakage can undermine the effectiveness of domestic climate policies and, if perceived as a significant risk, could even prevent their implementation. This concern also extends to the agricultural sector, where existing studies indicate a high potential carbon leakage risk. Like in other sectors, governments could use a carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) to reduce this risk. In theory, a CBAM could offer an efficient solution to avoid competitiveness losses by domestic producers and thus reduce carbon leakage. However, the feasibility of implementing such a mechanism remains an open question. Although the literature suggests many CBAM design options, we are unaware of CBAM design proposals for agriculture. To fill this literature gap, this article uses a mixed methods approach to outline the characteristics of an agricultural CBAM (Ag-CBAM) and develop a design that could enhance its administrative, technical, and legal feasibility. We recommend that an Ag-CBAM should only cover carbon pricing policies, acknowledge foreign mitigation efforts, and use carbon price and emission intensity benchmarks. Additionally, we propose that it should cover only imports of products causing the majority of carbon leakage and be limited to emissions along certain life-cycle stages where emissions originate along the food supply chain, and specific greenhouse gases. Finally, our article discusses the potential performance of this CBAM under further criteria, including its effectiveness in reducing carbon leakage, equity, and consistency with the Paris Agreement. Key policy insights: The characteristics of the agricultural sector make the design of an Ag-CBAM far from trivial. Designing an Ag-CBAM requires extensive country-specific information to choose among many possible regulatory options. Although countries can improve the feasibility of implementing an Ag-CBAM through finding an suitable design, such an Ag-CBAM could lose its effectiveness in reducing carbon leakage and have further unexpected effects. An Ag-CBAM seems an attractive policy in countries where: carbon pricing policies in agriculture lead to a significant substitution of domestic by foreign products; few imports cause most carbon leakage; most emissions embodied in these imports do not originate in less-developed countries; and uncovered GHG emissions and benchmarks do not substantially reduce its effectiveness in reducing carbon leakage. This study presents a large-scale interlaboratory comparison (ILC) aimed at detecting and quantifying DNA from two European anglerfish (Lophius budegassa, Lophius piscatorius), pike (Esox lucius) and sea bream (Spondyliosoma cantharus) using real-time qPCR. To detect amplification of the parvalbumin genetic marker, single and multiplex qPCR assays using EvaGreen® dye or TaqMan™ probes were used. Genomic DNA isolated from target fish species and an advanced DNA calibrator, gBlocks® gene fragments, were used as standards. The DNA of anglerfish, pike and sea bream as well as their mixtures were analysed together with 14 other non-target fish species. All target fish samples were correctly identified by the participating laboratories. Qualitative assessment of anglerfish and seabream DNA showed an accuracy rate of 100%, while pike DNA achieved a match rate of 99%. Validation of quantitative protocols in four different laboratories consistently achieved z-scores below 2, indicating satisfactory performance and confirming the high degree of similarity of laboratory results. Furthermore, high accuracy and efficiency were demonstrated for the quantification of anglerfish and seabream DNA by triplex qPCR using TaqMan™ probes. Regarding the selected gene marker, the major fish allergenic protein parvalbumin enables indirect detection and quantification of the allergen in the sample. According to the monthly counts of the Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS), the numbers of Eurasian Oystercatchers Haematopus ostralegus wintering in Great Britain has gradually decreased since the late 1980s/early 1990s. Although numbers also decreased in the South West region of England, the decline was much steeper in the Exe estuary population, suggesting that site-specific pressures may have affected this species in this regionally-important Special Protection Area. By combining data from the WeBS with those from 45 years of research on Oystercatchers by the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, we tested five hypotheses that could explain the relative decline on the Exe estuary: (1) a gradual improvement in estimating Oystercatcher numbers as counting methods were refined, (2) a deterioration in the main food supply, the Blue Mussel Mytilus edulis, (3) disturbance from people on and alongside the estuary, (4) disturbance from Peregrine Falcons Falco peregrinus and (5) an as yet unexplained increase in the frequency of stealing of mussels from Oystercatchers (kleptoparasitism) by Carrion Crows Corvus corone and European Herring Gulls Larus argentatus. The data are consistent only with the fifth hypothesis. Individual-based modelling suggested that kleptoparasitism at the increased frequency that occurred on the Exe estuary could have reduced the foraging success of Oystercatchers sufficiently to have (1) reduced the overwinter survival of the numerically dominant mussel-eating adults and (2) deterred prospecting immatures from choosing the estuary as their future wintering site. Research on agrifood supply chains has grown in recent years; however, little attention has been given to the effect of the choice of distribution channel on the sustainable and resilient performance of the network. This research proposes a system dynamics model to evaluate different distribution channels for a fresh food supply chain in a developing country. Among the main results is that the use of food hubs in a channel distribution produces long-term environmental, social and resilience benefits for the entire network, while short supply chains are the most economically viable alternative. Background: Food security in communities can prevent health complications, so investigators have made efforts to find its related factors through various fields. This study aims to draw a road map for nutrition and food security research in Iran. Methods: Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Islamic World Citation Center were searched for eligible publications in nutrition and food security related to Iran for the two decades from 2001 to 2020. Content analysis was done by a co-word network technique using VOSviewer software. Results: Finally, 28,995 scientific publications among 50,444 search results were eligible to include in this study. The research map was drawn using 403,262 keywords obtained from the title and abstract of the papers. A 23.53% growth rate of publications was seen. Iranian articles were mainly published in scientific journals under 10 subject categories. The highly repeated keywords of "treatment", "plant", "age", "risk", and "consumption" were in publications. Moreover, the articles were categorized into thematic clusters of "environmental and climate change", "health ", "food industry and food safety", and "agriculture and water resources management" which were related to nutrition and food security. An increasing trend was observed in the number of publications during the past two decades in Iran. Conclusion: The relation of clinical nutrition, malnutrition, diet, and in recent years, food production and climate change with food security have been extensively studied by Iranian researchers. The importance of predicting crop yields has increased due to growing concerns of surrounding food security. Early forecasting of crop yields holds a pivotal role in avoiding starvations by estimating the food supply available for the expanding global population. Several Deep Learning (DL) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques are involved to develop effective and accurate crop yield prediction model. Nevertheless, existing models faces some limitations such as less accuracy, high error rate because of noisy data, high training time and extracted less effective features for prediction. To overcome these issues, the novel DL methodology is introduced for attaining high accurate crop yield prediction. Initially, the soil, weather and other resources big data are collected from the various agriculture field. In data collection phase, the input data of larger size are stored in the Hadoop platform for the purpose of storing as well as processing the entire data in a distributed manner. The data are pre-processed through the utilization of Missing value imputation and z-score based data normalization. From the pre-processed data, the optimal features are considered using Integrated Correlation Random recursive elimination (InCorRe) approach. Based on the previous soil and weather information, the suitable yield of crops can be predicted using Multi head Residual dilated convolution assisted gated unit (MResGat) model. Finally, the losses of the network model can be optimized using African vulture optimization algorithm (AVO). How do prevailing economic relations enable non-capitalist forms of alternative organising? Through an ethnographic case study of a free food store, I illustrate how an alternative organisational form emerges through the entanglement of diverse economic practices. By tracing the journey of the surplus food, I argue that the use value of food and labour plays a crucial role in mediating alternative economic, symbolic and political relations. Furthermore, the relationality of diverse economic practices reveals a non-capitalist parasitic alternative organising sustained by/for the community. This study contributes to the literature on alternative organising by introducing use value as a theoretical tool to untangle the intricate relationship between capitalist and non-capitalist economic practices from a critical political economy perspective. Background: Racial discrimination is linked to unhealthy food environments and a higher prevalence of food insecurity. However, no study has explored their interrelated effects. We analyzed the relationship between racial discrimination, community food environment, and food insecurity in adults of different socioeconomic status. We also investigated the potential modifying effect of the food environment on the relationship between racism and food insecurity. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 400 adults aged 20–70 years residing in the central area of ​​Porto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul state. Race and racial discrimination were assessed by self-reported race/skin color using the Experiences of Discrimination scale (EOD), respectively. The food environment was assessed using the Nutrition Environment Measures Survey in Stores (NEMS-S) tool. Food insecurity was assessed using the short version of the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale (EBIA for short, in Portuguese). Poisson regression with robust variance was employed for the multivariate analysis. Results: The prevalence of food insecurity was higher in areas with a poorer food environment (areas 1 and 3; 56.6% and 58.8%, respectively). Racial discrimination was associated with food insecurity, where every 1-point increase in the racial discrimination score increased the likelihood of food insecurity by 7% (prevalence ratio [PR] 1.07; 95% CI, 1.03–1.20). When stratifying the analyses by food environment, racial discrimination was associated with food insecurity only in areas with a poorer food environment (PR 1.06; 95% CI, 1.01–1.10). Conclusions: Experiences of racial discrimination were associated with a higher prevalence of food insecurity in the study population. The community food environment was an effect modifier of this relationship, highlighting the relevance of interventions in the food environment focused on areas with a greater presence of Black people as a way of combating racism and food insecurity. The plant‐based protein industry is rapidly growing and is projected to grow to over $27 billion by 2030. In addition to monetary benefits, plant‐based protein crops, particularly pulse crops (i.e., legume species with dry edible seed), can supplement the existing crop biodiversity and break the disease and insect pest cycle in drastically changing climatic conditions. Most commercially available plant‐based protein ingredients come from only 2% of the 150 plant species on which our food supply depends. Therefore, it is imperative to diversify the cropping system with pulse crops that provide a more nutritious, climate‐resilient, sustainable food value chain. At present, a large portion of US pulse crop production is exported, yet the shifting demographics, dietary preferences, and a rise in domestic consumption present enormous potential for existing and emerging pulse crops, as well as their breeding. Despite a rise in demand from consumers and industries, farmers are yet to fully reap the benefits of these crops due to a shortage of improved varieties. These new varieties could lead to a diverse, sustainable protein supply that satisfies the growing domestic and global demand for plant‐based foods. This review intends to comprehensively explore the geographical and cultural acceptance of plant‐based proteins, manufacturing techniques, protein products, anti‐nutritional factors, techniques and tools for protein estimation, high‐throughput estimation of seed protein, protein composition requirements in food, breeding strategies, crop improvement, and resources to improve plant‐based protein pulse crops. Winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is a crucial crop that guarantees food supply in the North China Plain (NCP). As the frequency of extreme cold events increases, it is necessary to explore the freezing resistance of different wheat varieties in order to clarify planting boundaries and help with risk assessment. In this study, 2-year controlled experiments were conducted to explore the effect of freezing temperatures (Tair) and freezing durations on three winterness types. A set of indexes were used to characterize the subfreezing stress on wheat tiller, leaf, and final yield. Logistical regressions were used to quantify the temperature threshold for 10%, 30%, and 50% of freezing injury. The results showed that the lower temperature threshold of tiller (LT) varied from −9.6 to −15.9°C, −10.7 to −19.1°C and −11.4 to −21.2°C for LT10, LT30, and LT50, respectively. The difference between LT and yield loss (YL) indexes reduced with decreased winterness types and was −0.1 to 3.4°C, −0.7 to 2.1°C, and 0.3 to 0.9°C higher compared with YL thresholds for winterness, semi-winterness, and weak-winterness types, respectively. The average minimum soil temperature was 7.5, 4.8, and 4.2°C higher than Tair for 1-, 2-, and 3-day treatment, respectively. Soil effective negative accumulated temperature hours (TSEh) ranged from 6.9 to 12.0, 48.4 to 6.9, and 84.7 to 106.9°C·h for 10%, 30%, and 50% tiller mortality, respectively. Freezing treatment with Tair < −12, −9, and −8°C obviously decreased leaf Fv/Fm for the three varieties and Fv/Fm declined obviously after 5 days of recovery under field conditions. The question of the performance of polycentric governance over time is insufficiently addressed in the literature. By performance, we refer to the ability of polycentric governance actors to design rules and engage in coordination processes that allow them to achieve their goals. Through an institutional analysis, this paper seeks to answer a question that remains unresolved in the field, namely the effectiveness of the overarching set of rules and coordination relationships in their ability to drive institutional and organizational change in polycentric governance processes. To this end, we conduct an in‐depth case study of farmland governance in southeastern France. Through the attributes of polycentric governance, we examine the changes brought about by the goal of local food supply comparing it with other historical goals such as farmland preservation. We show that farmland governance is characterized by an institutional mismatch that prevents its actors from moving closer to the objective of local food supply. We argue that the evolution of farmland governance comes down to organizational change that does not lead to an evolution of rules‐in‐use. Alternative Food Networks (AFN) have garnered significant attention recently, yet the concept remains fuzzy. This paper examines the evolving interpretations of AFN over the past two decades, aiming for conceptual clarity. Using a three-stage approach to systematic literature reviews, we conducted a rigorous synthesis of existing research. Through concept and thematic analyses, we identified key attributes and recurring themes associated with AFN. While a conceptual consensus remains elusive, diverse definitions often share essential attributes such as “alterity,” “proximity,” “connectedness,” and “sustainability.” Additionally, we find that AFN and short food supply chains generally describe the same phenomenon, with civic food networks viewed as a subset of AFN, emphasizing community engagement and civic participation. Notably, AFN are not always local food systems, nor do local food systems always involve AFN. To address these nuances, we present guiding questions to assist researchers in studying and reporting on AFN. This work clarifies the core attributes of AFN and offers a roadmap for focused inquiries. Ultimately, our findings aim to guide decision-making processes, ensuring that efforts to support AFN are rooted in a nuanced understanding of their complexities and potential for driving change in food systems. The concept of smart farming employing modern technologies like big data, the cloud, and the Internet of things (IoT) is the demand of the future. This study aims to provide practical recommendations for stakeholders in the agricultural sector, by analyzing the effectiveness of blockchain technology when it comes to increasing supply chain transparency and resilience. It intends to provide insights for creating contemporary strategies to reform the agri-food business by synthesizing current literature, case studies, and real-world implementations. A comprehensive literature review, supplemented by analysis of case studies and industry reports is the principal method used for creating this report. As a high-value agricultural product, the cold chain logistics management of Gannan navel oranges has global significance. Especially in Africa and Europe, food safety and supply chain quality are critical issues. However, the existing Gannan navel orange logistics information management system relies on traditional databases and information systems, with insufficient data sharing and transparency, affecting the overall coordination of the supply chain and customer satisfaction. In addition, the traditional system is vulnerable to hacker attacks and malicious tampering of data by insiders, resulting in serious economic losses and reputation damage. So the blockchain platform constructed in this study improves the transparency and traceability of logistics data through the SMART-PBFT algorithm of the alliance chain, which optimizes the logistics management process, improves the quality of logistics services, and reduces operating costs. It improves the logistics efficiency and data transparency of local agricultural products, and also provides a demonstrative case for the cold chain management of other high-value agricultural products around the world, with broad application potential and reference value. Objective: To assess the feasibility and acceptability of a virtual food skills program for children with type 1 diabetes. Methods: Forty‐three patients, aged 6–14 years with type 1 diabetes, participated in an 8‐week online programme, summerlunch+ At Home, that included weekly live cooking classes, asynchronous learning modules, and quizzes accessed through Google Classroom. Grocery delivery or gift cards were provided to all participants to support equitable access to participation. Descriptive results were summarized, and thematic analysis was performed on answers to a post‐intervention questionnaire, parent/caregivers interview transcripts, and facilitators' field notes. Results: Participants reported having a positive experience and would recommend the programme to others. Acceptable elements included the online format, the cooking class demonstrations, and the well‐organized content. Families enjoyed the recipes, expressed an improvement in the families' cooking skills and nutrition knowledge, and noted the program as a way to improve family bonding and reduce participants' sense of social isolation given the opportunity of meeting peers with diabetes. The intervention also appears to increase participants' independence, confidence, and self‐esteem. While grocery cards were easier to coordinate compared with meal kits, both were deemed acceptable by caregivers. Barriers to participation include a distracting home environment and not feeling comfortable on camera. Factors that negatively impacted satisfaction were the large age range of participants and the class timing and duration. Caregivers noted a desire for more diabetes education, enhanced peer‐to‐peer interaction, and incorporation of animal‐based protein recipes in future programmes. Conclusion: The current study demonstrates the feasibility and acceptability of the virtual summerlunch+ At Home cooking and nutrition program that was adapted for children with diabetes. Similar food skills programmes may support the development of food skills imperative to diabetes self‐management long‐term. Agriculture is the most significant and stable economic sector in the world because it both directly and indirectly produces and supplies food for people. The demands of a growing population are beyond the capacity of global agriculture production to meet. The world has experienced varying degrees of food crises at different times. To ensure food security and meet the demands of an expanding population, pressure is being applied to the agriculture sector. Chemical fertilizers are therefore viewed as an essential source of plant nutrition for improving crop yields. Farmers began to believe that applying more chemical fertilizers results in increased crop yield. However, less than half of the fertilizer applied will be absorbed by the crop, with the surplus either leaching into water sources or becoming immobilized in the soil. With innovative nano-technological strategies that enhance precision farming methods, improve plant nutrient absorption, support land and water conservation, boost crop yield, and develop uses for nano-fertilizers (NFs), nanotechnology has enormous potential to improve agricultural practices. Introduction: : Food insecurity and health are inextricably linked. Since 2008, Scotland has witnessed a proliferation of both food insecurity and emergency food provision. There is a recognised commitment from Scottish Government to 'end the need for food banks', however, the food aid landscape was 'turbo-charged' during COVID-19 leading to intense expansion and diversification of food-based projects, including the development of community food pantries (CFPs). These 'new' models are relatively under-researched, meaning we do not adequately understand their potential or realised impacts on food insecurity and health. This study aims to fill that gap. Methods: A qualitative methodology was used to collect and analyse data from in-depth interviews with 10 representatives from both operational and policy settings related to food insecurity in Scotland. In addition, we conducted an analysis of policy documentation from Scottish Government related to tackling food insecurity to understand how CFPs fit into its overall strategy to transition away from food bank use. Results: We found there were variations in conceptualisations of CFPs and how they operate, challenges related to addressing food insecurity at a community level and varied narratives around the role of community level interventions in tackling health inequalities. Choice and access to services were viewed as central components to the pantry model. However, there were significant challenges faced by CFPs, including territorialism, funding and food supply. Articulations of health were often multi-layered and complicated with strong recognition of the social determinants as well as acknowledgement of the limitations of tackling food insecurity and health inequalities solely at the community level. Conclusions: Despite a commitment to transition away from emergency food provision, CFPs in Scotland appear to face many of the same issues as food banks, particularly those which impact health. Urgent critique of their reliance on surplus food redistribution is required alongside investigation of how these 'new' models are experienced by the people who access them. Further expansion of these models should be viewed with caution and in the same vein as traditional emergency food provision: a symptom of, rather than a solution to, the problem of food insecurity. Cool season legumes (Faba bean, chickpea, lentil, pea, and grass pea) are important protein harvests for food and nutrition security in many countries. They play key roles in sustainable cereal production through their ecological benefits. However, diseases and pests attack continue to have a substantial impact on crop yield and quality. Although growers used different control options to manage these biotic stresses such as pesticide application, cultural practices, and resistant varieties, there is a pressing need for the development of new, more cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution to help farmers in facing the existing environmental issues. Recently, there is a growing interest among researchers in exploiting Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) for the elaboration of disease and pest control strategies in food legumes and other crops. These compounds have important functions in ecological relationships occurring between plants and their surrounding environment, as well as plants and others species, such as pests and pathogens. Due to their unique properties, VOCs can be employed in improving management alternatives for food legume diseases and pests. In this assessment, we investigated the role of VOCs in plantpest and plant-pathogen interactions and their present applications in pest and diseases control strategies. We emphasized the ecological importance of employing plant VOCs in legume farming and crop breeding. Additionally, we highlighted the potential of microbial VOCs in facilitating microbe-microbe, microbe-plant and microbe-plant-pest interactions, along with their role in food legume protection. Expanding green areas in cities results in growth in green waste generation. This study presents the findings of an investigation into green waste from selective collection in a large Central European city (Warsaw, Poland), which can be identified as a valuable biomass resource. The research objective was to identify the properties of garden waste from single-family housing to determine valorization opportunities, emphasizing the utilization of GW as a source of energy. The research yielded several findings, including a notable degree of variability in fuel properties, including moisture content (CV = 30%), lower heating value (CV = 14.3%), and ash content (CV = 62.7/56.2%). The moisture content suggests composting, while the fertilizing properties indicate suitability for anaerobic digestion. The instability of the fuel properties, coupled with the elevated levels of chlorine, sulfur, and moisture, constrains the use of garden waste in thermal processes and alternative fuel production. Pyrolysis could be a viable approach for green waste feedstock, offering value-added products depending on the processing conditions and pre-treatment. Nevertheless, implementing a selective collection system is a critical condition for the optimal utilization of bio-waste, facilitating the quality and property control of green and food waste. Perishability can be defined as the characteristic of fresh items. The level of freshness is one of the most crucial indicators in the fresh food supply chain. The widespread information asymmetry has exacerbated the circulation losses to trigger the food safety incidents, such as the horse meat scandal in the UK, the widespread Romaine lettuce infection in the US, the contamination of Ecuadorian white shrimp, the counterfeiting of pork in China, and the þSalmon Incidentÿ. Food safety issues have resulted in adverse customer sentiment on the trust between consumers and the fresh produce business. Hence, risk- averse actions can be expected to implemented on the highly efficient and reliable traceability system for agricultural goods. The quality and safety traceability were enhanced to guarantee food safety throughout the whole supply chain of agricultural products. Fresh produce retailers can achieved in the transparency about freshness using traceability system. The fresh produce supply chain can be realized to decrease the food wastes for the high product quality and customer trust. Nascent Blockchain technology can offer to strengthening the stability of system, with the decentralization, openness, transparency, cryptographic protection and tamper-proof features. Information disclosure can also be utilized to ensure both openness and transparency of information. Additionally, the utilization and impact of information can be used to mitigate information asymmetry among supply chain participants in the product traceability. Furthermore, blockchain technology can be implemented in the entire supply chain of fresh food, particularly on data collection and storage. Real-time monitoring was realized to predict the product status during the production, processing, transportation and sales of products. As a result, the clear insight of consumers can be gained into the authentic information regarding all stages of production and distribution, thus ensuring transparency in product freshness. Supply chain efficiency was also optimized to foster the consumer trust and retailer reputation. Furthermore, customer confidence was enhanced the reputation of stores and precise supply matching. A robust and safe trust mechanism was effectively achieved for the fresh food supply chain. Blockchain technology can be implemented in the fresh produce retail industry, in order to balance and promote information sharing and transparency. Moreover, smart contract technology was utilized to reduce the circulating time of fresh produce and consumer risks, in order to enhance the efficiency and quality of consumer benefits. However, the technological application can also depend on the freshness of items and the degree to which consumers minimize risk. In this study, the information transparency and timeliness were enhanced to focus on the blockchain technology. A secondary fresh food supply chain was established to involve the suppliers, retailers, and consumers. The equilibrium solutions of the game between suppliers and retailers were compared both before and after the implementation of blockchain technology. The consumers risk avoidance behaviors were also examined on the application strategy and value. A systematic investigation was then made to determine the intention of retailers to adopt blockchain technology. Research indicated that high intention was achieved to use blockchain technology, when the product was a higher initial freshness. This selected was driven by the requirement to maximize revenues, consumer surplus and more social welfare. Conversely, blockchain technology was resulted in the decreased profits and motivation, if the product was a low initial freshness. In contrast, there was the increase in the retailer's willingness to apply the blockchain technology, as the level of consumer risk aversion increased, particularly when the initial freshness of the product was at an average level. Background: Cryptolaemus montrouzieri (Coccinellidae) is widely utilized as biological control agents in modern agriculture. A comprehensive understanding of its food preference can help guide mass rearing and safety management during field application of pest control. Although some studies have paid attentions to the impacts of prey shift on C. montrouzieri, little is known regarding the role of post-transcriptional regulations in its acclimation to unnatural preys. Results: We performed a genome-wide investigation on alternative splicing dynamics in C. montrouzieri in response to the predation transition from natural prey to unnatural ones. When feeding on undesired diets, 402–764 genes were differentially alternative spliced in C. montrouzieri. It is noteworthy that the majority of these genes (> 87%) were not differentially expressed, and these differentially spliced genes regulated distinct biological processes from differentially expressed genes, such as organ development and morphogenesis, locomotory behavior, and homeostasis processes. These suggested the functionally nonredendant role of alternative splicing in modulating physiological and metabolic responses of C. montrouzieri to the shift to undesired preys. In addition, the individuals feeding on aphids were subject to a lower level of changes in splicing than other alternative diets, which might be because of the similar chemical and microbial compositions. Our study further suggested a putative coupling of alternative splicing and nonsense-mediated decay (AS-NMD), which may play an important role in fine-tuning the protein repertoire of C. montrouzieri, and promoting its acclimation to predation changes. Conclusion: These findings highlight the key role of alternative splicing in modulating the acclimation of ladybirds to prey shift and provide new genetic clues for the future application of ladybirds in biocontrol. Urbanisation is a major driver of habitat transformation that alters the environmental conditions and selective regimes of the habitats where it occurs. For species inhabiting urban habitats, such alterations can facilitate adaptive responses in their phenotypes, including their morphology. Quantifying potential responses could provide important information for assessing adaptation to urbanisation and may also be relevant to their conservation. Previous studies on African dwarf chameleons (Bradypodion) have shown these lizards to have remarkable adaptive capacity in response to different habitats (e.g. closed canopy habitats vs. open canopy habitats). Several of these species exploit urban habitats, but the extent to which populations are adapting to urban environments has only recently started to receive attention. In this study, we quantify differences in body size and body condition between urban and natural populations of five species of dwarf chameleons. For most comparisons, either females, males or both sexes from urban populations were longer, heavier and/or had better body condition than those from natural populations. In the remaining cases, there were no differences in these traits between populations. Our findings conform with the emerging paradigm that urbanisation positively correlates with enhanced lizard body sizes and condition, although the reasons for this may be complex. Nevertheless, our data provide an avenue for future research into investigating the potential factors (e.g. food supply, predation risk, etc.) that facilitate the trends we observed. Background: Developing anti-obesity interventions targeting appetite or food intake, the primary driver of obesity, remains challenging. Here, we demonstrated that dietary γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) with GABA-degradation inhibitory drugs could be an anti-obesity intervention possessing strong food intake-suppressive and weight-loss effects. Methods: High-fat (HF)-diet-induced obese mice were divided into six groups receiving either the HF diet or the 2% GABA-HF diet with daily administration of PBS or the GABA-degradation inhibitory drugs, vigabatrin and ethanolamine-Osulfate (EOS). In 24-h fast-induced refeeding, lean mice with a basal diet were used, and food intake was measured from 0.5 to 24 h after refeeding. Results: Coadministration of the 2% GABA-HF diet with vigabatrin or EOS significantly decreased food intake (-53%, -35%) and body weight (-22%, -16%) within 11 days in obese mice, along with a marked increase in plasma GABA levels. Mice receiving dietary GABA alone or the drugs alone exhibited no such effects. Hypothalamic GABA levels increased in drugtreated mice, regardless of diet. At 0.5 h after refeeding, food intake was similar in all groups. However, at 0.5 h, plasma GABA levels were markedly increased only in mice receiving coadministration of dietary GABA and the drugs, and their food intake was completely inhibited for over 6 h, while mice in other groups gradually increased their food intake. Conclusion: Combining dietary GABA with GABA-degradation inhibitory drugs effectively suppresses food intake and promotes weight loss in obese mice, primarily through increased plasma GABA availability. The study provides a detailed analysis of the significant impact marketing standards have on FLW at various stages of the supply chain, including primary production, processing, retail, and consumption. By focusing on these critical points, the research underscores the necessity of addressing marketing standards to achieve meaningful reductions in FLW. The proposed framework aims to foster improved business practices and drive the development of innovative, sector-specific solutions that balance sustainability goals with economic viability. Benthic (seafloor) remineralization of organic material determines the fate of carbon in the ocean and its sequestration. Bottom water temperature and labile carbon supply to the seafloor are expected to increase in a warming Arctic and correspondingly, benthic remineralization rates. We provide some of the first experimental data on the response of sediment oxygen demand (SOD), an established proxy for benthic remineralization, to increased temperature and/or food supply across a range of Arctic conditions and regimes. Each factor significantly increased SOD rates (with different degrees of variability); however the largest increases were seen with both factors combined (50% to ten-fold increases), consistently across the four seasons and the spatial gradient covering shelf to deep basin included in our study. This ability of the Arctic benthos to process increased pulses of carbon suggests that increased sedimented carbon under warming conditions is likely to be utilized and processed, not accumulated, impacting carbon storage and decreasing the Arctic's role as a global carbon sink. ABSTRACT The rapidly changing climatic scenarios are highly favorable for the rising diseases that lead to increasing threats to food production and supply. Various scholars and scientists make long steps to hasten the process of making innovations in farming for managing these issues. In this context, UAV is applied for the purpose of managing and monitoring plant health. The abiotic stresses available in plant diagnosis through traditional strategies are highly labor‐intensive and unfit for large‐scale deployment. Conversely, UAVs designed with mobile sensors, multispectral, radar, and so on make them flexible, affordable, and more effective. Thus, this study proposes a novel meta ensemble transfer extreme gradient‐based random tactical unit (MTEG‐RTU) algorithm for diagnosing crop illnesses precisely. The proposed MTEG‐RTU methodology entails three methods such as transfer learning, adaptive boost, and meta‐ensemble, and the hyper parameters are tuned using random tactical unit algorithm. Healthier and disordered crop images gained from the crop disease dataset comprise 8000 images and are preprocessed. The more optimal features from the preprocessed images are learned through the ResNet method, and these features enter into the classification phase. Random tactical unit algorithm enhanced the performance by optimizing the hyperparameters of MTEG classifier. The experimental results conducted based on the various assessment components and validation dataset indicate that the developed method outperformed the other chosen models, achieving precision, recall, and accuracy of 98.5%, 97.9%, and 98.6%, respectively. The other achievements made by the model are offering technical guidance for conducting the precise diagnosis and treatment of plant pathologies with less time of 9 s. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT Giant clams are invertebrates that form mutualistic associations with Symbiodiniaceae dinoflagellates. Despite their ecological significance, gaps persist regarding our understanding of their trophic ecology. Specifically, it is unknown whether Symbiodiniaceae‐derived photosynthates are metabolized differently according to species and organ. Therefore, we maintained Tridacna derasa and T. noae for 3 months in a well‐lit recirculated system without food supply. Samples were taken from eight organs and underwent lipid extraction and fatty acid esterification before analysis of three symbiont‐derived fatty acids (stearidonic acid, docosapentaenoic acid, and docosahexaenoic acid—SDA, DPA, and DHA, respectively) using gas chromatography. Results show considerable variation in fatty acids concentration among species and organs. SDA was found in higher concentrations in T. noae, especially in the adductor muscle. DPA was detected in low concentrations across T. noae organs and absent for T. derasa. DHA did not vary significantly among species and organs. Our findings indicate that Symbiodiniaceae supply clams with fatty acids, which are stored differentially according to species and organs. This demonstrates that these compounds are translocated to multiple organs throughout the complex giant clam anatomical system, in contrast to simpler hosts like corals. With the increasing production and circulation of fresh food, society's requirements for product quality have also increased. Currently, upstream and downstream enterprises in the fresh food supply chain tend to delegate the cold chain transportation of fresh food to third–party cold chain logistics (CCL) service providers who offer more professional integrated preservation services. This study adopts coordination theory to research the delegation, coordination, and incentive strategies between a Fresh Food Producer, Distributor, and CCL Service Provider. The aim is to promote the efforts of the CCL Service Provider in improving freshness and achieving the overall optimal interests of the fresh food supply chain. First, the basic models of the Fresh Food Producer and Distributor individually entrusting the CCL Service Provider are established under different information conditions. Second, a collaborative delegation agency model between the Fresh Food Producer and Distributor is established on top of the basic models. Finally, through the optimal decision solutions under different information conditions and numerical calculations of preservation benefit levels, the following conclusions are drawn: (1) The more transparent and open the information environment, the more it can encourage the CCL Service Provider to improve the quality of their preservation services, allowing the Fresh Food Producer and Distributor to obtain more significant preservation benefits. However, when information is completely transparent, the incentive mechanisms formulated by the Fresh Food Producer and Distributor become ineffective. (2) Collaborative cooperation strategies can encourage the CCL Service Provider to enhance their preservation efforts while strengthening the effectiveness of relevant incentive strategies for the Fresh Food Producer and Distributor.
