L’occasion du numéro anniversaire des 20 ans de la revue Développement durable & territoires permet de mettre en valeur les ambitions de la rubrique Points de vue et de dresser un bilan de son historique. La rubrique a été conçue comme une rubrique originale, visant à permettre l’expression de « points de vue » sur des sujets ou des objets en lien avec la ligne éditoriale de DD&T, dans un format plus libre que celui des articles scientifiques standard et/ou venant d’acteurs non académiques. La présente introduction revient sur les temps forts de la rubrique et elle éclaire le type de publication qu’elle contient. Les apports de la rubrique sont mis en lumière, mais aussi la difficulté inhérente à l’objectif visé : finalement, peu de publications sont le fait d’acteurs non académiques. C’est pourquoi l’une des perspectives pour l’avenir est de publier davantage de contenus sous la forme de transcriptions d’entretiens, sans doute plus propices à la circulation des « points de vue ». Cette démarche est initiée dans ce numéro avec la publication de trois entretiens traduisant trois points de vue différents sur l’histoire et les caractéristiques de la revue DD&T. The 20th anniversary issue of Développement Durable & Territoires (Sustainability & territories) provides an opportunity to highlight the ambitions of the « Point de vue » (Viewpoints) section and to review its history. The section was conceived as an original one, aiming to allow the expression of « points de vue » on subjects or objects related to the editorial line of DD&T, in a freer format than that of standard scientific articles and/or from non-academic actors. This introduction looks back at the highlights of the section and sheds light on the type of publication it contains. The contributions of the section are highlighted, but also the difficulty inherent in the objective : in the end, few publications are by non-academic actors. This is why one of the prospects for the future is to publish more content in the form of interview transcripts, which is undoubtedly more conducive to the circulation of « points de vue ». This approach is initiated in this issue with the publication of three interviews reflecting three different points of view on the history and characteristics of the DD&T journal.

Cet entretien auprès de Bruno Villalba et Bertrand Zuindeau a été mené par Rhoda Fofack-Garcia et Leslie Carnoye, afin d’éclairer l’histoire, les motivations et les conditions institutionnelles d’émergence de la revue Développement durable & Territoires. L’entretien fait partie d’une série d’échanges conduits dans le cadre du numéro anniversaire de la revue. Ici, c’est le regard croisé des « pères fondateurs » de la revue qui prévaut. L’entretien revient sur le contexte et les enjeux – en termes de science et de collectif – qui ont porté la création de la revue, et dresse une rétrospective du chemin parcouru depuis sa genèse. D’une initiative inscrite dans un groupe d’échange, plus ou moins informel d’abord, jusqu’à la naissance du réseau DD&TF, puis de la revue, la trajectoire de DD&T s’inscrit dans une démarche d’emblée interdisciplinaire qui s’est imposée face au manque de reconnaissance institutionnelle de l’importance d’analyser et répondre aux questions environnementales, et en lien avec le territoire. Ainsi, la revue a résolument contribué à inscrire des réflexions émergentes sur la durabilité dans le paysage des recherches francophones en sciences humaines et sociales de l’environnement. Les enjeux et évolutions propres au monde de l’édition n’échappent pas au bilan que dressent les « pères fondateurs », ainsi que les perspectives d’avenir d’un collectif qui a su conserver sa convivialité. This interview with Bruno Villalba and Bertrand Zuindeau was conducted by Rhoda Fofack-Garcia and Leslie Carnoye, to highlight the history, motivations and institutional conditions of the emergence of the journal Développement durable & territoires. The interview is part of a series of exchanges conducted in the context of the journal’s anniversary issue. Here, it is the crossed view of the journal’s « founding fathers » that prevails. The interview recalls the context and the issues - in terms of science and collective - that led to the creation of the journal and draws up a retrospective of the path taken since its genesis. From an initiative that was part of a group of discussions, initially more or less informal, to the launch of the DD&T network and then the journal, the trajectory of DD&T is part of an interdisciplinary approach that was introduced in response to the lack of institutional recognition of the importance of analyzing and addressing environmental issues, and in relation with the territory. Thus, the journal has resolutely contributed to bringing emerging debates on sustainability into the landscape of French-speaking research in the field of environmental social sciences. The stakes and evolutions specific to the publishing and editing sectors do not escape the overview made by the « founding fathers », as well as the future perspectives of a collective that has succeeded in maintaining its conviviality.

Introduction The 2020’s will probably stand out as the decade when offshore wind farms (OWF) were developed worldwide (GWEC, 2020) as a response toward sustainability goals. Today, global OWF capacity represents 29.1 GW, which in end of 2019 accounted for 5% of total global wind capacity (GWEC, 2020). Since the world's first offshore wind turbine was installed in Denmark in 1991, Europe has taken the lead in offshore wind development. By 2019, 5,047 offshore wind turbines were installed along the European coasts, corresponding to 110 OWF producing 22.1 GW (WindEurope, 2019). OFW developments are often located on densely populated coastlines and races questions about human-environment interactions, spatial planning, and cumulated impacts with other human activities, fisheries in particular (Berkenhagen et al., 2010). OWF constructions have consequences on the marine ecosystems and dwellers of coastal areas, which depend on the complex network of ecological, socio-economic and political variables. Energy is indeed a vital issue for our future and requires the development of interdisciplinary research to interpret and drive the choices and responses to the climate challenge faced by our society (Labussière and Nadaï, 2015). A better understanding of the functioning and evolutionary trajectory of social-ecological systems (SES) following the choices in the energy sector is very useful for the governance (Mazé, 2020). SES provides the conceptual framework for the analysis of these intertwined social and natural systems. Berkes and Folke (1998) developed the ideas around SES in a context of resilience, even if this notion was already present in other fields (e.g., epidemiological context, Cherkasskii, 1988). They underlined the need to balance the “social” and “ecological” subsystems when considering them together, and to connect them through non-linear ecological and knowledge of human dynamics. Studying SES using systems science brings highly valuable answers to numerous questions concerning their interactions and their role in either transmitting or attenuating perturbations. These are theoretical as well as practical questions useful for decision. Several authors have proposed the development of SES models to understand the resilience, vulnerability, and adaptability of these systems (Young et al., 2006), or to answer management questions within a context of resilience-based decision (e.g., Anthony et al., 2013). They emphasize the need of an approach that tackles explicitly the structure of the interactions between the social and ecological components (Walker et al., 2006). Qualitative models facilitate the study of complex systems without being hampered by the need of accurately measure behavior and relationships between variables (Justus, 2006). Based on loop analysis as developed in the 1970's by Richard Levins (Levins, 1974, 1975; Lane and Levins, 1977), SES can be modeled as signed, directed graphs (signed digraph), where each relationship is described as 0, +, or –, according to the direct effect from one variable to another. The aim of this opinion paper is to emphasize the uniqueness of SES that stem from OWF, and to address how some challenges typically encountered when modeling SES linked with OWF can be resolved through Levin's loop analysis.
