\nHighlightsTo better understand the in-match fuelling practices of elite football players and compare against current guidelines, we quantified the carbohydrate, fluid, and caffeine intake of players from an English Premier League club (n = 22) during 90 min of competitive match-play. Mean carbohydrate intake across match-play was 17 ± 11 g.h−1 with players demonstrating a preference towards CHO-containing fluids (58%) when compared with semi-solids (38%) and solids (14%), respectively. CHO intake was significantly lower than reported by players (17 ± 11 vs 24.8 ± 11 g.h−1, p < 0.001) during initial consultation. Fluid was ingested at a rate of 0.45 ± 0.14 L.h−1, with 54, 40 and 6% of ingested fluid coming from water, carbohydrate, and electrolyte-only solutions, respectively. The majority of players (91%) met the UEFA guidelines for fluid consumption. Of the players who consumed caffeine across match-play (55%) the average dose was 233 ± 148 mg (2.8 ± 1.1 mg.kg−1 body mass [BM]), which meets the UEFA consensus guidelines for caffeine intake. Caffeine capsules (42%) and caffeine containing fluids (30%) were the preferred format prior to the warm-up whilst caffeine gum was exclusively used prior to kick-off and during the half-time period (100%). We conclude that 81% of the total playing squad failed to meet the current UEFA CHO intake recommendations of 30–60 g.h−1, which may be attributed to the preference towards fluid-based CHOs as the chosen format of delivery. The responses of sandwich cylindrical shells containing fluid to free vibrations and low-velocity impact were studied. The high-order shear deformation theory and Bernoulli's equation for the structure-fluid interface were used. To solve the equations obtained and validate the results, the Galerkin method and Abaqus finite element software were employed. The main innovation of this research is the calculation of the effective mass of the top layer and the entire sandwich cylindrical shell containing fluid using displacement field relations, their equivalent density, and indentation force due to impact. In addition, to calculate the impact force and the structure-fluid interaction, a two-degree-of-freedom model of mass, spring, and damper with the effect of the crushing resistance of the core was used. The results show that the fluid is an important and effective factor in calculating the natural frequency and low-velocity impact on the structure. The presence of fluid reduces the fundamental natural frequency of the sandwich cylindrical shell by 69%. Parameters such as core and layer thickness, length, and radius of the sandwich cylindrical shell, presence of the fluid, various boundary conditions, wave number, fiber orientation angles, velocity, and mass of the impactor are essential and influential factors in studying vibrations, impact, and optimal design of structures. Early diagnosis and prompt management are essential to enhance the outcomes of patients with sepsis and septic shock. Over the past two decades, evidence-based guidelines have guided appropriate treatment and recommended the implementation of a bundle strategy to deliver fundamental treatments within the initial hours of care. Shortly after its introduction, the implementation of a bundle strategy has led to a substantial decrease in mortality rates across various health care settings. The primary advantage of these bundles is their universality, making them applicable to all patients with sepsis. However, this same quality also represents their primary disadvantage as it fails to account for the significant heterogeneity within the septic patient population. Recently, the individualization of treatments included in the bundle has been suggested as a potential strategy for further improving the prognosis of patients with sepsis. New strategies for the early identification of microorganisms and their resistance patterns, advanced knowledge of antibiotic kinetics in critically ill patients, more conservative fluid therapy in specific patient populations, and early use of alternative vasopressors to catecholamines, as well as tailored source control based on patient conditions and site of infection, are potential approaches to personalize initial care for specific subgroups of patients. These innovative methodologies have the potential to improve the management of septic shock. However, their implementation in clinical practice should be guided by solid evidence. In this study, the design and characterization of a printed cross‐dipole antenna with a gravitationally controlled passive beam steering technique has been presented. The steering of the beam is achieved by using a floating reflector that remains parallel to the earth surface when the antenna along with the mounted body gets inclined while traveling through uneven roadways. Initially, the microstrip cross dipole antenna is designed and simulated along with the reflector to operate in one of the allocated 5G frequency bands of 2.6 GHz. This is followed by the fabrication of the antenna prototype along with a glass chamber where the reflector is kept floated over the fluid. Measurements are carried out and are in good comparison with that of the simulated one. To investigate the performance characteristics of polymers with different functional groups in drilling fluid matrix (clay suspension), two anionic acrylamide-based polymers with molecular weights of approximately 1 million and the same monomer ratio, namelypoly(acrylamidoacrylate) (P(AM-AA)) and poly(acrylamidoallyl sulfonate) (P(AM-SAS)), were synthesized using a water-dispersion polymerization method. Using polyacrylamide (PAM) with the same molecular weight as a reference, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, zeta potential analysis, particle size distribution test, and drilling fluid performance test were conducted to assess the thermal stability of the polymers as well as the microstructures and properties of the corresponding drilling fluids. The results demonstrated that both P(AM-AA) and P(AM-SAS) exhibited significant intercalation effects on clay in drilling fluids, leading to an increase in the zeta potential of clay particles and the formation of a bimodal particle size distribution. These polymers also effectively reduced filtration loss and altered the rheological properties of the drilling fluids. However, the influence of polymers on temperature and salt resistance did not conform to the traditional understanding that sulfonic acid groups offer better hydration and salt resistance compared to carboxyl groups. The performance characteristics of the polymers were influenced not only by their own structure, but also by the clay content, salt content, temperature in the drilling fluids. Specifically, in freshwater drilling fluids, P(AM-AA) exhibited a slightly lower but comparable reduction in filter loss compared to P(AM-SAS). Furthermore, P(AM-AA) was less affected by clay content than P(AM-SAS) and showed stronger filter loss reduction in brine drilling fluids with NaCl content ≤3 wt%, while exhibiting less sensitivity to variations in NaCl content. Conversely, P(AM-SAS) demonstrated stronger filter loss reduction and lower sensitivity to NaCl content in brine drilling fluids with NaCl content >3 wt%. The influence of high-temperature aging (120–180 °C) on filter loss reduction function was similar for both P(AM-AA) and P(AM-SAS). The rheology of the formulated drilling fluid was less sensitive to clay content when utilizing P(AM-AA) compared to P(AM-SAS). Moreover, the apparent viscosity of the drilling fluid with P(AM-AA) was more impacted by NaCl when the NaCl content was below 5 wt%, showing greater sensitivity than P(AM-SAS). Fluid infiltration into Proterozoic and Early Palaeozoic dry, orthopyroxene-bearing granitoids and gneisses in Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica, has caused changes to rock appearance, mineralogy, and rock chemistry. The main mineralogical changes are the replacement of orthopyroxene by hornblende and biotite, ilmenite by titanite, and various changes in feldspar structure and composition. Geochemically, these processes resulted in general gains of Si, mostly of Al, and marginally of K and Na but losses of Fe, Mg, Ti, Ca, and P. The isotopic oxygen composition (δ18OSMOW = 6.0‰–9.9‰) is in accordance with that of the magmatic precursor, both for the host rock and infiltrating fluid. U-Pb isotopes in zircon of the altered and unaltered syenite to quartz-monzonite indicate a primary crystallization age of 520.2 ± 1.0 Ma, while titanite defines alteration at 485.5 ± 1.4 Ma. Two sets of gneiss samples yield a Rb-Sr age of 517 ± 6 Ma and a Sm-Nd age of 536 ± 23 Ma. The initial Sr and Nd isotopic ratios suggest derivation of the gneisses from a relatively juvenile source but with a very strong metasomatic effect that introduced radiogenic Sr into the system. Fault zones are usually filled with fault gouge and accompanied by fault water. The coupled effect of fault gouge and water significantly impacts the slip behavior of the fault, which may weaken the fault structure and further induce rupture propagation and earthquakes. In this study, we carried out a laboratory experiment to investigate the fluid-induced slip behavior of fault filled with gouge. The friction evolution characteristic associated with fluid pressure and effective stress was investigated during the slip process. In addition, the role transformation process of the gouge on the slip behavior of fault was revealed. The experimental result indicates that the friction on the filled fault surface is significantly affected by fault gouge. The rupture of the gouge promotes fault slip and the fluid pressure plays a vital role in the initiation of fault slip. The fault gouge enhances the shearing strength of the fault and acts as a barrier before the initial slip under fluid injection. Nevertheless, the fault gouge would accelerate the fault slip and transform into lubricant after the initial slip.

Subsurface treatment systems, such as constructed wetlands, riverbank filtration systems, and managed aquifer recharge systems, offer a low-cost means of removing trace organic contaminants from treated municipal wastewater. To assess the processes through which trace organic contaminants are removed in subsurface treatment systems, pharmaceuticals and several major metabolites were measured in porewater, sediment, and plants within a horizontal levee (i.e., a subsurface flow wetland that receives treated municipal wastewater). Concentrations of trace organic contaminants in each wetland compartment rapidly declined along the flow path. Mass balance calculations, analysis of transformation products, microcosm experiments, and one-dimensional transport modeling demonstrated that more than 60% of the contaminant removal could be attributed to transformation. Monitoring of the system with and without nitrate in the wetland inflow indicated that relatively biodegradable trace organic contaminants, such as acyclovir and metoprolol, were rapidly transformed under both operating conditions. Trace organic contaminants that are normally persistent in biological treatment systems (e.g., sulfamethoxazole and carbamazepine) were removed only when Fe(III)- and sulfate-reducing conditions were observed. Minor structural modifications to trace organic contaminants (e.g., hydroxylation) altered the pathways and extents of trace organic contaminant transformation under different redox conditions. These findings indicate that subsurface treatment systems can be designed to remove both labile and persistent trace organic contaminants via transformation if they are designed and operated in a manner that results in sulfate-and Fe(III)-reducing conditions.

In this paper, we investigate a (3+1)-dimensional integrable fourth-order nonlinear equation that can model both the right- and left-going waves in a fluid. Based on the Hirota method, we derive three sets of the bilinear auto-Bäcklund transformations along with some analytic solutions. Through the extended homoclinic test approach, we obtain some breather solutions. We find that the breather propagates steadily along a straight line, with one hole and one peak in each period. Graphical investigation indicates that the coefficients in that equation affect the location and shape of the breather. Moreover, we construct some mixed lump–kink solutions. Fusion and fission between a lump wave and a kink soliton are analyzed graphically. The solutions addressed in this paper may be applied to mimic some complex waves in fluids. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this paper is to use the second derivative of Chebyshev polynomials (SDCHPs) as basis functions for solving linear and nonlinear boundary value problems (BVPs). Then, the operational matrix for the derivative was established by using SDCHPs. The established matrix via mixing between two spectral methods, collocation and Galerkin, has been applied to solve BVPs. Consequently, an error analysis is investigated to ensure the convergence of the technique used. Finally, we solved some problems involving real-life applications and compared their solutions with exact and other solutions from different methods to verify the accuracy and efficiency of this method. Recent observations beneath Kanto, Japan have shown that seismic activity and seismic attenuation within the overlying continental plate change with time due to drainage caused by slow‐slip events (SSEs) along the upper boundary of the Philippine Sea plate. However, associated changes in rock properties have not been investigated. In this study, we estimate frequency‐dependent shear‐wave anisotropy to provide a detailed insight into the structural change associated with drainage. We perform shear‐wave splitting analysis in frequency ranges of 1–4, 2–6, and 4–8 Hz for 306 earthquakes that occur during September 2009–August 2021 and recorded at the Metropolitan Seismic Observation network. Obtained time differences between fast and slow S waves (delay time) range from almost zero to 0.16–0.18 s, exhibiting spatio‐temporal variation and frequency dependence. The fast S‐wave polarization directions are generally consistent with the direction of the maximum horizontal compressional axis in the study region, which suggests that the observed anisotropy is probably caused by the NE–SW‐oriented fractures developed under the regional stress field. The temporal variation in delay times is correlated with SSEs activity with a lag time of 0.0–0.1 year. Furthermore, comparisons between observed frequency‐dependent delay times and numerical calculation of fracture‐induced anisotropy suggest that the average fracture radius is almost constant (0.30–0.35 m) over time but fracture density temporally varies from 0.025 to 0.035. We infer that the fracture density is probably enhanced by opening of the NE–SW‐oriented fractures during the upward migration of fluids that are expelled from the plate interface. Plain Language Summary: Measurement of shear‐wave polarization anisotropy characterizes the intensity and orientation of fractures within the rocks beneath the Earth's surface. Furthermore, its frequency dependence provides important information for determining the fracture size and density. This study reveals that the strength of anisotropy shows temporal variations associated with the inferred periodic drainage from the subducting slab. We discuss a possible mechanism of the structural change focusing on the frequency dependence of the observed anisotropy and propose that the opening of fractures occurs immediately above the subducting slab following the periodic drainage. The obtained results will provide important constraints on fluid‐rock interaction above the subducting plate interface. Fluid mechanics has been linked to a wide range of disciplines, such as atmospheric science, oceanography and astrophysics. In this paper, we focus our attention on a (3 + 1) -dimensional variable-coefficient Kadomtsev-Petviashvili-like equation in a fluid. Through the Hirota method, we derive a bilinear form. We obtain an auto-Bäcklund transformation based on the truncated Painlev e ´ expansion and a bilinear Bäcklund transformation based on the bilinear form. With the variable coefficients α (t) , β (t) , γ (y , t) , δ (t) and μ (t) taken as certain constraints, one- and two-kink solutions are shown. Based on the one-kink solutions, we take γ (y , t) as the linear and trigonometric functions of y, and then give the ring-type and periodic-type one-kink waves, where t and y are the independent variables. Introduction: Hyponatraemia is the most common electrolyte disorder in inpatients resulting mainly from an imbalance in water homeostasis. Intravascular fluid status assessment is pivotal but is often challenging given multimorbidity, polypharmacy and diuretics use. We evaluated the utility of point‐of‐care ultrasound (POCUS) as an adjunct tool to standard practice for fluid assessment in severe hyponatraemia patients. Methods: Patients presenting with severe hyponatremia (Serum Sodium [Na] < 120 mmol/L; Normal range: 135−145 mol/L), managed by standard care were included. Hyponatraemia biochemistry work‐up and POCUS examination were undertaken. Both clinician and POCUS independently assigned one of the three fluid status groups of hypovolaemia, hypervolaemia or euvolaemia. The final diagnosis of three fluid status groups at admission was made at the time of discharge by retrospective case review. Clinician's (standard of care) and POCUS fluid assessments were compared to that of the final diagnosis at the time of discharge. Results: n = 19 patients were included. Median Na on admission was 113 mmol/L (109‐116), improved to 129 ± 3 mmol/L on discharge. POCUS showed the higher degree of agreement with the final diagnosis (84%; n = 16/19), followed by the clinician (63%; n = 12/19). A trend towards higher accuracy of POCUS compared to clinician assessment of fluid status was noted (84% vs. 63%, p = 0.1611). Biochemistry was unreliable in 58% (n = 11/19) likely due to renal failure, polypharmacy or diuretic use. Inappropriate emergency fluid management was undertaken in 37% (n = 7/19) of cases based on initial clinician assessment. Thirst symptom correlated to hypovolaemia in 80% (4/5) cases. Conclusion: As subjective clinical and biochemistry assessments of fluid status are often unreliable due to co‐morbidities and concurrent use of medications, POCUS can be a rapid objective diagnostic tool to assess fluid status in patients with severe hyponatraemia, to guide accurate emergency fluid management. It is widely accepted that the complexation of Sn with Cl in magmatic-hydrothermal fluids is critical for the formation of endogenic Sn deposits. However, Sn abundance as high as 0.4 wt% has been found in some chlorine-poor but silicate-rich fluid inclusions associated with a Sn-mineralized pegmatite. To examine the role of silicate solutes in Sn mineralization, we measured the solubility of cassiterite in alkaline silicate-rich fluids by direct observation of single crystal cassiterite dissolution in a hydrothermal diamond anvil cell at 540–900 °C and 5.5–13.6 kbar. Experimental results indicated that a significant amount of cassiterite could be dissolved in both Na 2 Si 3 O 7 –H 2 O and Na 3 AlSi 5 O 13 –H 2 O fluids, and SnO 2 solubility was positively correlated with the concentration of silicate solutes, the Na/(Si + Al) ratio of the fluid and temperature. In Na 2 Si 3 O 7 –H 2 O fluids at ∼680 °C with 24 to 45 wt% silicate solute, SnO 2 solubility increased from 0.65 to1.67 wt%. In Na 3 AlSi 5 O 13 –H 2 O fluids at ∼715 °C with 21 to 52 wt% silicate solute, the solubility increased from 0.49 to 1.19 wt%. These values are comparable to cassiterite solubilities in HCl solutions and Li 2 CO 3 solutions, and are much higher than those in NaCl solutions, 0.1 mol/kg NaOH solution, and 14 wt% SiO 2 solution. In situ Raman spectra collected on fluids demonstrated the presence of silicate monomers and oligomers, and the complexation of Sn with these Si-(Al)-Na clusters or with (OH)− could explain the observed high SnO 2 solubility. Comparison with SnO 2 solubility in peraluminous melt suggests that Sn can be significantly enriched in alkaline silicate-rich fluids. Modeling of progressive fluid-melt unmixing successfully reproduces the observed high Sn abundance in silicate-rich fluid inclusions. Alkaline silicate-rich fluids can therefore serve as an effective agent, alternative to chlorine-rich fluids, for Sn mobilization and mineralization, especially in pegmatite systems. Background: Cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CS-AKI) is common, but its impact on clinical outcomes is variable. Parsing AKI into sub-phenotype(s) and integrating pathologic positive cumulative fluid balance (CFB) may better inform prognosis. We sought to determine whether durational sub-phenotyping of CS-AKI with CFB strengthens association with outcomes among neonates undergoing the Norwood procedure. Methods: Multicenter, retrospective cohort study from the Neonatal and Pediatric Heart and Renal Outcomes Network. Transient CS-AKI: present only on post-operative day (POD) 1 and/or 2; persistent CS-AKI: continued after POD 2. CFB was evaluated per day and peak CFB during the first 7 postoperative days. Primary and secondary outcomes were mortality, respiratory support-free and hospital-free days (at 28, 60 days, respectively). The primary predictor was persistent CS-AKI, defined by modified neonatal Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes criteria. Results: CS-AKI occurred in 59% (205/347) neonates: 36.6% (127/347) transient and 22.5% (78/347) persistent; CFB > 10% occurred in 18.7% (65/347). Patients with either persistent CS-AKI or peak CFB > 10% had higher mortality. Combined persistent CS-AKI with peak CFB > 10% (n = 21) associated with increased mortality (aOR: 7.8, 95% CI: 1.4, 45.5; p = 0.02), decreased respiratory support-free (predicted mean 12 vs. 19; p < 0.001) and hospital-free days (17 vs. 29; p = 0.048) compared to those with neither. Conclusions: The combination of persistent CS-AKI and peak CFB > 10% after the Norwood procedure is associated with mortality and hospital resource utilization. The processes of unsteady contact interaction of liquids described by different mathematical models with solid deformable bodies are considered. Closed mathematical formulations of unsteady contact problems in the case of various models of liquids and linear-elastic bodies are developed. The analytical solution of the nonstationary problem of interaction between an acoustic fluid and a deformable solid body is obtained. The time integral Laplace transform is used to construct the solution. The poly(2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine) (PMPC)-modified, silicone hydrogel, contact lens (CL) material lehfilcon A has previously been demonstrated to have a lubricious, antifouling and ultra-soft surface. This study provides confirmatory identification of the outer polymer structures on this CL surface as branched PMPC structures. It further aims to understand their role in providing enhanced tribological performance via fluid confinement. A combination of scanning transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy infrared spectroscopy has been used to achieve both morphological and chemical confirmation of branched PMPC structures resembling the polysaccharide species present on the surface of the cornea. Measurements of the fluid-confinement behaviour of this layer, by means of nanoindentation experiments, show it to resist squeeze-out of the interstitial fluid, thereby boosting lubrication by virtue of a fluid-load-support mechanism. Tribological testing of CLs showed this effective lubrication to be maintained after one month of daily wearing.

Abstract Sex differences in the in-hospital management of sepsis exist. Previous studies either included patients with sepsis that was defined using previous definitions of sepsis or evaluated the 3-h bundle therapy. Therefore, this study sought to assess sex differences in 1-h bundle therapy and in-hospital management among patients with sepsis and septic shock, defined according to the Sepsis-3 definitions. This observational study used data from Korean Shock Society (KoSS) registry, a prospective multicenter sepsis registry. Adult patients with sepsis between June 2018 and December 2021 were included in this study. The primary outcome was adherence to 1-h bundle therapy. Propensity score matching (PSM) and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed. Among 3264 patients with sepsis, 3129 were analyzed. ABSTRACTBackground Nutritional intake and sleep, play an important role for recovery and performance in elite sport but little work has been undertaken in archery. The present study aimed to assess energy intake (EI), hydration status, and sleep parameters in world-class male archers over the course of a four-day competition.Methods Results, Conclusions Six male, elite-standard archers participated in the study and measurements of hydration status, EI, competition load, and sleep were recorded throughout each day of competition.Results Daily energy, carbohydrate, and protein intake ranged between 2,563 and 3,986 kcal, 4 and 7.1 g/kg BM, 2.2 and 3.6 g/kg BM per day, respectively. To further increase biogas production and reduce landfilled waste, WRRFs with excess anaerobic digestion capacity can accept other high-strength organic waste (HSOW) streams. The goal of this study was to characterize and evaluate the life-cycle global warming potential (GWP), eutrophication potential, and economic costs and benefits of sidestream nutrient management and biosolid management strategies following digestion of sewage sludge augmented by HSOW. Five sidestream nutrient management strategies were analyzed using environmental life-cycle assessment (LCA) and life-cycle cost analysis (LCCA) for codigestion of municipal sewage sludge with and without HSOW. As expected, thermal stripping and ammonia stripping were characterized by a much lower eutrophication potential than no sidestream treatment; significantly higher fertilizer prices would be needed for this revenue stream to cover the capital and chemical costs. Composting all biosolids dramatically reduced the GWP relative to the baseline biosolid option but had slightly higher eutrophication potential. These complex environmental and economic tradeoffs require utilities to consider their social, environmental, and economic values in addition to present or upcoming nutrient discharge limits prior to making decisions in sidestream and biosolids management.

Sodium and fluid restriction has traditionally been advocated in patients with heart failure (HF) due to their sodium and water avid state. However, most evidence regarding the altered sodium handling, fluid homeostasis and congestion‐related signs and symptoms in patients with HF originates from untreated patient cohorts and physiological investigations. Recent data challenge the beneficial role of dietary sodium and fluid restriction in HF. Consequently, the European Society of Cardiology HF guidelines have gradually downgraded these recommendations over time, now advising for the limitation of salt intake to no more than 5 g/day in patients with HF, while contemplating fluid restriction of 1.5–2 L/day only in selected patients. Therefore, the objective of this clinical consensus statement is to provide advice on fluid and sodium intake in patients with acute and chronic HF, based on contemporary evidence and expert opinion. Phononic crystals with periodic structures have attracted extensive attentions, since the vibration wave propagation characteristics can be utilized for vibration control. The vibration of periodic composite cylindrical shells containing or surrounded by fluid is studied in this article. Thin shell theory and non-viscous incompressible fluid equations are applied during the modeling, and the dynamic stiffness method (DSM) is developed for solving the vibration characteristics of periodic structures. The discretization of elements is reduced to a minimum by the use of DSM, which gives rise to improvements on computation efficiency. Results show that the inclusion of fluid would narrow the frequency ranges of propagation wave bands, especially in high frequency. The unit length and material property may also affect the propagation wave bands. This periodic model may provide references for the further vibration control of cylindrical structures. The possibility of changing the ratio of the concentrations of NaCl and CaCl2 salts in fluid phases formed as a result of heterogenization of the H2O–CO2–NaCl–CaCl2 fluid with a decrease in P-T parameters has been studied. A well-known experimental fact regarding the ternary systems H2O–CO2–NaCl and H2O–CO2–CaCl2 is the greater tendency of the H2O–CO2–CaCl2 system to separate into coexisting predominantly aqueous-salt and aqueous-carbon dioxide phases compared to the similar system H2O–CO2–NaCl. This experimental fact can be interpreted as a greater affinity of NaCl for CO2 compared to CaCl2. Using a recently developed numerical thermodynamic model of the H2O–CO2–NaCl–CaCl2 quaternary fluid system, it was possible to identify geologically significant consequences of this difference in the interaction of NaCl and CaCl2 with CO2. Multistage heterogenization of the H2O–CO2–NaCl–CaCl2 fluid with a significant decrease in P-T parameters ultimately leads to the formation of aqueous-carbon dioxide fluid phase f2, the salt component of which is significantly enriched in NaCl and depleted in CaCl2 compared to the initial fluid. The fluid phase f1 formed at each stage of heterogenization has a predominantly water-salt composition with the ratio of the mole fractions of NaCl and CaCl2 salts, differing little from that in the initial fluid. However, the total mole fraction of salt in the f1 phase, as a rule, significantly exceeds that in the original fluid. The density of phase f1 significantly exceeds the density of phase f2. During the process of multistage heterogenization of the fluid phase f1, there is no formation of a fluid with a significant enrichment of CaCl2 compared to the initial ratio of the mole fractions of NaCl and CaCl2. At the same time, successive multiple separation of the f2 phase leads to the enrichment of its salt component in NaCl. Under favorable conditions, this process can lead to the formation of a fluid with almost pure NaCl salt. Changes in the salt composition of the fluid H2O–CO2–NaCl–CaCl2 are considered in application to the evolution of fluid composition along the regressive branch of the P-T trend of HP metamorphism and syngranulite metasomatism in the Lapland granulite belt. We review empirical data and theoretical relationships to derive equations which relate the upper boundary of maximum earthquake magnitude to the volume of fluids injected by pumping water and supercritical СО2, as well as to magmatic activity preceding volcanic eruptions. Temperature and pressure variations during the geologic diagenesis process can lead to complex pore structures in tight rocks. The effective-medium theory, based on the stress–strain relationship in combination with pore structure parameters, can be used to describe the elastic-wave responses of rocks. In this work, the differential effective medium (DEM) and self-consistent approximation (SCA) models are combined to invert the pore-crack spectrum. The Voigt–Reuss–Hill average is used to estimate the elastic moduli of the minerals. Then, based on SCA, the pore structures are incorporated into the rock matrix to create a new host phase. Subsequently, the DEM theory is used to add cracks with different volume fractions and aspect ratios to the host phase. To predict the structure of pores and cracks (crack density and aspect ratio), an objective function is defined as the sum of variances between experimentally measured and predicted wave velocities. The results show that the modeling predictions of P- and S-wave velocities at different temperatures and pressure ratios agree well with the experimental measurements. Variations in pore structure are determined at a zero effective pressure and different temperatures. We analyze the characteristics of how cracks change with variations in temperature and confining pressure, providing a theoretical basis for characterizing the structure of tight rocks. The paper utilizes a finite element method to study both the blood flow and atheromatous plaques. Specifically, the COMSOL finite element package is employed to achieve a fluid model. COMSOL is a powerful finite element tool commonly used in various research and industrial domains to study multiphysics problems. The study considers different forms and arrangements of stenosis, taking into account the irregularities formed by various shapes of the plaques and the resulting flow patterns. The petrogenesis of basaltic arc lavas with heavy Mo isotopic compositions is controversial. Given that oceanic crust preferentially loses isotopically heavy Mo during subduction at forearc depth and the remaining Mo is isotopically light and locked in rutile, fluids derived from such crust at subarc depth cannot account for the heavy Mo isotopic compositions of basaltic arc lavas. Serpentinites can contain substantial Mo and volatiles and are a potential source of isotopically heavy Mo in basaltic arc lavas. However, the Mo isotopic composition of serpentinites and the Mo isotope behavior during serpentinite dehydration are poorly constrained. Here, we present Mo contents and isotope data for serpentinites from the South Sandwich Trench-Fracture Zone intersection, and deserpentinized peridotites and high-pressure meta-serpentinite veins from the western-central Alps and Betic Cordillera, Spain. Most of these samples have heavy Mo isotopic compositions (δ98/95Mo NIST 3134 , ranging from −0.26 ‰ to 1.84 ‰) with low Ce/Mo (0.10–23.98) and Ce/Pb (0.17–3.59) ratios, which are distinct from the compositions of eclogite-facies metabasalts and metapelites. In addition, no systematic variations in Mo contents and Mo isotopic compositions occur for the studied samples, indicating limited Mo isotope fractionation during serpentinite dehydration. The above results suggest that serpentinites and their derived fluids at subarc depths can serve as the main isotopically heavy Mo sources for basaltic arc lavas. The Mo isotope data with Ce/Mo and Ce/Pb systematics suggest that serpentinite-derived fluids or melting of serpentinite diapirs at subarc depths can explain the heavy Mo isotopic compositions of basaltic arc lavas. Furthermore, recycled oceanic slab (oceanic crust + serpentinized mantle) would has limited influence on the Mo systematics of the mantle, which explains why the mantle has maintained a nearly constant Mo isotopic composition since 3.5 Ga. At high PT parameters of cumulates of ultramafic–mafic intrusions and low oxygen fugacity (below QFM buffer), Pt in the form of a carbonyl complex is dissolved in a CO2-bearing fluid. Objective: To provide a method of directly using cytology fluid samples for predictive biomarker testing in lung cancer patients and to determine the efficacy of a variety of fluid sample types. Method: A review of our in‐house data from a range of cytology samples including endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) fine‐needle aspirate (FNA) needle washings (NW) and serous effusions tested on the Biocartis Idylla platform. All fluid samples were originally tested using Sanger sequencing. Results: Using our method for fluid samples all of our cytology samples tested for epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR) yielded valid results on this platform and all variant cases identified. The data showed serous fluids provided the best quality DNA, and variant genotype reports were obtained within 150 minutes. Conclusion: Cytology fluid samples can be used for predictive biomarker testing for lung cancer patients to provide in‐house results with all fluids providing good‐quality DNA. The mantle is known to be heterogeneous, mainly composed of peridotite and eclogite. Eclogitederived hydrous melts may interact with harzburgite at the slab-mantle interface in subduction zones or in the sub-continental lithospheric mantle. In this study, such interactions were simulated by performing hybridization experiments in which a layer of eclogite was juxtaposed to a layer of harzburgite in the presence of H2O-CO2 at 4 GPa and 1200 °C, conditions where eclogite is super-solidus while harzburgite is sub-solidus. A diamond trap was placed in between the two layers to trap the fluid or melt phase, allowing direct determination of their composition. The multi-anvil was rotated at different frequencies to examine the effect of increasing degree of interaction on the melt composition as well as the mineral compositions. The interaction of eclogite-derived hydrous melt and harzburgite results in a reaction layer at the interface between the two lithologies, composed of Opx and garnet. The harzburgite above the reaction layer is metasomatized, containing various amounts of olivine, Opx, Cpx, and garnet. The eclogitic melt is modified during this interaction. With increasing interaction, a thicker reaction layer is formed. Both the eclogitic and the peridotitic garnet compositions approach each other and become intermediate between the composition of the garnet in the eclogite+H2O+CO2 system and the garnet in the harzburgite+H2O+CO2 system at these conditions. The Mg# of the peridotitic olivine and Opx decreases with increasing interaction. The initial basaltic melt in equilibrium with eclogite is metaluminous, turning to a peralkaline melt with increasing interaction with the harzburgite. The metasomatizing effect of the eclogite-derived hydrous melt on the harzburgite is observed by increasing the mode of the peridotitic Opx, Cpx, and garnet at the expense of peridotitic olivine and eclogitic garnet. A slight increase in melt fraction occurs as well. This interaction also results in a gradient in the log fO2. Relatively more oxidizing conditions occur near the reaction layer, becoming more reduced into the peridotite, suggesting that the reaction zones act as partial barriers for the melt to travel through the peridotite. Increased interaction leads to higher log fO2 values. These experiments demonstrate the influence of the degree of interaction on the range of melt compositions found in volcanic arcs as well as the degree of metasomatism in the mantle found in the sub continental lithospheric mantle. Purpose: The aim of this work is to study porous thermo-elastic behavior in a half-space elastic micro-stretch media enveloped in an unbounded inviscid liquid with a magnetic field, utilizing three-phase lag model (3PHL) and Green–Naghdi theory of type III (G–N III). Methods: The analytical technique used to obtain the ordinary differential equations was normal mode analysis. The Gauthier composite element is employed in an implementation to start comparing the observations—magnetic field on thermo-micro-stretch elastic porous medium completely covered in the endless fluid of G–N III theory with those for the model of 3PHL. Results: The magnetic field has been observed to make a significant impact over all physical quantities. Also, comparisons have been made for four various frequency values which explained that the frequency has an important role on the physical quantities. Conclusion: Overall, the research on the magnetic field effect on thermo-micro-stretch porous media immersed in a liquid has several potential practical implications and engineering applications in various fields, such as biomedical, environmental, chemical, and energy engineering. Rationale: Sepsis management relies on fluid resuscitation avoiding fluid overload and its related organ congestion. Objectives: To explore the influence of country income group on risk–benefit balance of fluid management strategies in sepsis. Methods: We searched e-databases for all randomized controlled trials on fluid resuscitation in patients with sepsis or septic shock up to January 2023, excluding studies on hypertonic fluids, colloids, and depletion-based interventions. The effect of fluid strategies (higher versus lower volumes) on mortality was analyzed per income group (i.e., low- and middle-income countries [LMICs] or high-income countries [HICs]). Measurements and Main Results: Twenty-nine studies (11,798 patients) were included in the meta-analysis. There was a numerically higher mortality in studies of LMICs as compared with those of HICs: median, 37% (interquartile range [IQR]: 26–41) versus 29% (IQR: 17–38; P = 0.06). Income group significantly interacted with the effect of fluid volume on mortality: Higher fluid volume was associated with higher mortality in LMICs but not in HICs: odds ratio (OR), 1.47; 95% confidence interval (95% CI): 1.14–1.90 versus 1.00 (95% CI: 0.87–1.16), P = 0.01 for subgroup differences. Higher fluid volume was associated with increased need for mechanical ventilation in LMICs (OR, 1.24 [95% CI: 1.08–1.43]) but not in HICs (OR, 1.02 [95% CI: 0.80–1.29]). Self-reported access to mechanical ventilation also significantly influenced the effect of fluid volume on mortality, which increased with higher volumes only in settings with limited access to mechanical ventilation (OR: 1.45 [95% CI: 1.09–1.93] vs. 1.09 [95% CI: 0.93–1.28], P = 0.02 for subgroup differences). Conclusions: In sepsis trials, the effect of fluid resuscitation approach differed by setting, with higher volume of fluid resuscitation associated with increased mortality in LMICs and in settings with restricted access to mechanical ventilation. Sex differences in the in-hospital management of sepsis exist. Previous studies either included patients with sepsis that was defined using previous definitions of sepsis or evaluated the 3-h bundle therapy. Therefore, this study sought to assess sex differences in 1-h bundle therapy and in-hospital management among patients with sepsis and septic shock, defined according to the Sepsis-3 definitions. This observational study used data from Korean Shock Society (KoSS) registry, a prospective multicenter sepsis registry. Adult patients with sepsis between June 2018 and December 2021 were included in this study. The primary outcome was adherence to 1-h bundle therapy. Propensity score matching (PSM) and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed. Among 3264 patients with sepsis, 3129 were analyzed. PSM yielded 2380 matched patients (1190 men and 1190 women). After PSM, 1-h bundle therapy was performed less frequently in women than in men (13.0% vs. 19.2%; p < 0.001). Among the bundle therapy components, broad-spectrum antibiotics were administered less frequently in women than in men (25.4% vs. 31.6%, p < 0.001), whereas adequate fluid resuscitation was performed more frequently in women than in men (96.8% vs. 95.0%, p = 0.029). In multivariable logistic regression analysis, 1-h bundle therapy was performed less frequently in women than in men [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 1.559; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.245–1.951; p < 0.001] after adjustment. Among the bundle therapy components, broad-spectrum antibiotics were administered less frequently to women than men (aOR 1.339, 95% CI 1.118–1.605; p = 0.002), whereas adequate fluid resuscitation was performed more frequently for women than for men (aOR 0.629, 95% CI 0.413–0.959; p = 0.031). Invasive arterial blood pressure monitoring was performed less frequently in women than in men. Resuscitation fluid, vasopressor, steroid, central-line insertion, ICU admission, length of stay in the emergency department, mechanical ventilator use, and renal replacement therapy use were comparable for both the sexes. Among patients with sepsis and septic shock, 1-h bundle therapy was performed less frequently in women than in men. Continuous efforts are required to increase adherence to the 1-h bundle therapy and to decrease sex differences in the in-hospital management of patients with sepsis and septic shock. The feasibility of application of a ferromagnetic conductive cylinder nozzle to focus the fluid flow extruded by a piston dispenser is assessed in the present work. Based on the limiting cases of stationary and laminar fluid flows, it is shown that an electric field can be created between the fluid and the cylindrical nozzle due to the anomalous Hall effect in the cylindrical nozzle with a current flowing along the cylinder. This field is created by the electric current caused by the mechanical movement of the fluid. This electric current of the fluid creates around itself the cylindrical magnetic field that penetrates into the ferromagnetic nozzle. On the example of carbonyl iron, it is shown with allowance for the corresponding approximations that an increase in the current flowing through the ferromagnetic nozzle should lead to a decrease of the fluid flow radius. Original analytical data on trace elements and radiogenic Nd and Pb isotopes in the volcanic rocks of the Southern and southwestern part of the Northern plateaus of the underwater Vityaz Ridge are presented. Interpretation of these data and a comparison with published materials on the volcanic rocks from the southern and northern parts of the Kuril Island Arc (KIA), which formed on two basement blocks of different genetic nature, allow us to draw the following conclusions. The tholeiite varieties of volcanic rocks of the Southern Plateau and the southern part of the KIA have similar isotope-geochemical features, which point to the similar geodynamic conditions of the formation and the identical influence of low-temperature fluid on magma-generating processes. The geochemistry of the volcanic rocks of the Northern Plateau, which are mainly represented by subalkaline varieties, indicates a more pronounced contribution of the mantle component to the magmagenesis and a greater degree of influence of high-temperature melt compared to the rocks of the Southern Plateau, but a lesser degree compared to the rocks of the northern part of the arc. The volcanics of both plateaus are derivatives of a single mantle source, the MORB of the Indian Ocean (Indian MORB), and were formed together with the rocks of the southern part of the KIA within the lithospheric block transformed by tectonomagmatic processes that accompanied the opening of the Kuril Basin. Isotopic and elemental signatures in arc magmas bear similarities to marine sediments from the forearc. Partial melts of subducted sediments were previously invoked as the predominant carrier of material between the slab and mantle wedge, whereas aqueous fluids were deemed too inefficient at mobilizing trace elements to account for arc magma compositions. However, trace element solubility in aqueous fluids may be significantly affected by the formation of chloride complexes. We introduced NaCl into the sediment‐H2O system, and re‐investigated trace element partitioning between aqueous fluids and metasediments in a series of piston cylinder experiments at 2.5–4.5 GPa and 600–700°C. The diamond trap method was employed to separate the fluids, which were analyzed in the frozen state. Trace element compositions of fluids and all solid phases were obtained by LA‐ICP‐MS. We combined our data with published literature to demonstrate that saline fluids and sediment melts have a comparable efficiency in extracting incompatible elements from subducted sediments, producing similar element fractionation during mobile phase expulsion. Accessory phases such as allanite may only be stable in particularly Rare Earth Elements‐enriched lithologies. The Sr, Pb and Nd isotopic signatures of arc magma suggest that the mantle wedge is infiltrated by mobile phases derived from both the sediment and basalt sections of the subducted oceanic crust. Up to several percent of either sediment‐derived saline fluid or melt can account for the isotopic and elemental compositions of most arc magma. Geochemical similarities between arc magma and forearc sediments are not necessarily evidence of slab melting.
