Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq This study is intended to analyze if the increase in soybean trade flows between Brazil and the EU has contributed to a greater deterioration of the environment. In particular, with regard to the increase in CO2 emissions, in the period from 1990 to 2017. For therefore, the methodology chosen in the development of the study was the Gravitational Model. The model applied in the study, based on the Bergstrand Equation (1985), made use of traditional variables, such as the size of economies, measured through GDP and geographical distance. In addition, considering the study by Folfas et al. (2011), variables related to CO2 emissions from agricultural production in Brazil and the EU, the exchange rate and the similarity index of the products in the units in question were added to the model. Empirically, after carrying out statistical tests, the model was estimated using panel data via Pooled, where the dependent variable is the export of Brazilian soybean to the European community. The estimates found indicate that the emissions from Brazilian soybean production and the volume of exports have a positive relationship. That is, in Brazil, agricultural exploitation in soybean production has not reached the level indicated by the Kuznets Curve yet, in which production is optimized and emissions are reduced. Esse estudo tem por objetivo analisar se o aumento dos fluxos comerciais da soja entre Brasil e UE tem contribuído para uma maior deterioração do meio ambiente, em particular, no que se refere ao aumento das emissões de CO2, no período de 1990 a 2017. Para isso, a metodologia escolhida no desenvolvimento do estudo foi o Modelo Gravitacional. O modelo aplicado no estudo, baseado na Equação de Bergstrand (1985), fez uso das variáveis tradicionais, como o tamanho das economias, medido através do PIB e a distância geográfica. Além disso, considerando o estudo de Folfas et al. (2011), adicionou-se ao modelo variáveis referentes às emissões de CO2 da produção agrícola do Brasil e da UE, a taxa cambial e o índice de similaridade dos produtos das unidades em questão. Empiricamente, após a realização de testes estatísticos, o modelo foi estimado com dados em painel via Pooled, onde a variável dependente é a exportação da soja brasileira para o bloco europeu. As estimações encontradas indicam que, as emissões da produção da soja brasileira e o volume das exportações possui uma relação positiva. Ou seja, no Brasil a exploração agrícola na produção da soja ainda não chegou ao nível indicado pela Curva de Kuznets, no qual otimiza-se a produção e as emissões diminuem.
