Background Neonatal sepsis is a major cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality, especially in developing countries. Atypical clinical symptoms lead to delays in diagnosis and treatment. Scoring a combination of routine hematology parameters may be able to predict the occurrence of sepsis in preterm neonates. Objective To formulate a new model for neonatal sepsis scoring from various complete blood count parameters to predict sepsis in preterm neonates. Methods This analytical cross sectional study using secondary data from the Registry of the Neonatology Division was conducted at the RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin, Bandung, West Java. Subjects were neonates diagnosed with sepsis, of gestational age 28–36 weeks, who were born at the RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin from January to December 2021. Laboratory results of patients who met the inclusion criteria were recorded. Subjects were divided into either proven sepsis and probable sepsis groups, based on blood culture results. Results Of 112 subjects, 35.7% had proven sepsis and 64.3% probable sepsis. In the proven sepsis group, 52.5% of subjects were male, median birth weight was 1,490 grams, median gestational age was 32 weeks, 90% were small for gestational age, and 60% were delivered normally. Multivariable analysis by multiple logistic regression revealed that the parameters associated with the incidence of neonatal sepsis were c-reactive protein (CRP) > 0.18 mg/dL (score 6), hematocrit 10 (score 2). Score >8 had a sensitivity of 85% and specificity of 70.8%, with area under the ROC curve of 0.865 (P8 can be used as a predictor of sepsis in preterm neonates.

Edwards' syndrome is caused by an extra chromosome on the 18th chromosome. Patients with this diagnosis have median survival of only 3-14.5 days, with the majority of infants with full trisomy 18 type die before or shortly after they are born. There is only supportive treatment available for Edwards’ syndrome. During the COVID-19 pandemic, providing health services was challenging, leading to less than optimum treatments added by patients’ reluctance to visit healthcare facilities due to the fear of COVID-19 transmission. This case study presented an infant with Edwards’ syndrome with major malformation. The patient had several organ problems, was admitted to the NICU, and continued with home care for monitoring for 6 months. Patient then died at 9 months of age. Maintaining the best quality of life for this patient was very challenging for parents and healthcare providers. Since the management for this type of sydnome is more palliative, good education, information, and psychosocial supports for the parents are needed to prepare them with the worst conditions, which was especially more challenging during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: Myelomeningocele (MMC) is a congenital malformation affecting the central nervous system, categorized as a neural tube defect (NTDs). In untreated cases, the mortality rate within the first six months of life ranges from 35% to 70%. Globally, its incidence is estimated 0.8 to 1 per 1000 live births, and rates are higher in Asia and lower socioeconomic groups. This disease imposes a significant treatment cost and burden due to life-long disabilities. In less developed or developing countries, delays in diagnosis can lead to complications such as infection and rupture. Although rupture is a rare complication in MMC, there are limited studies that have reported it. This study aims to discuss the perioperative management and potential complications of ruptured MMC. Method: This study presents four cases of ruptured MMC that were referred from private hospitals and managed by Hasan Sadikin General Hospital in West Java, Indonesia. Each patiens underwent a clinical assessment and diagnostic evaluation upon arrival, followed by perioperative theraphy and management of any complications that emerged during treatment. Result: In three of the four cases, the children were over 24 h old when they were admitted to the hospital. Three cases were located in the lumbosacral region while one case was located in the thoracic region. Upon arrival, the clinical presentations we observed included microcephaly, small for gestational age (SGA) and congenital talipes equionavrus (CTEV). And we found several complications included wound dehisence, respiratiory failure, hydrocephalus, leg weakness, menigitis and sepsis after surgery. Conclusions: Perioperative management is highlighted as vital, necessitating a multidisciplinary approach and precise surgical techniques to mitigate severe complications.

Latar belakang. Enterokolitis nekrotikans merupakan penyakit yang dapat terjadi pada neonatus kurang bulan kecil masa kehamilan. Prevalensi neonatus kecil masa kehamilan di Indonesia tahun 2012 mencapai 18% dengan neonatus kurang bulan sejumlah 8800. Penelitian sebelumnya menyatakan insidensi enterokolitis nekrotikans pada neonatus kurang bulan kecil masa kehamilan sebesar 3,2%. Hipoksia kronis menyebabkan hipoksia perinatal sehingga didapatkan Skor Apgar yang rendah saat lahir. Skor Apgar rendah diduga dapat menyebabkan hipoperfusi splanknik yang memicu peningkatan derajat keparahan enterokolitis nekrotikans. Tujuan. Mengetahui korelasi antara Skor Apgar dengan derajat keparahan enterokolitis nekrotikans pada neonatus kurang bulan kecil masa kehamilan. Metode. Studi potong lintang ini melibatkan neonatus kurang bulan kecil masa kehamilan yang terdiagnosis enterokolitis nekrotikans dan tidak enterokolitis nekrotikans. Background Early onset neonatal sepsis is a potential life-threatening problem for preterm infant. Diagnosing early onset neonatal sepsis is challenging. Aim To explore the possibility of C-reactive protein (CRP) and haemoglobin (Hb) in prediction and risk assessment of acute kidney injury (AKI) among preterm newborns. This is believed to be closely related to the incidences of AKI, and could be the most affordable in early detection of AKI. Methods A case control study was carried out at Dr Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung with a total of 112 preterms divided into two groups: with and without AKI based on the neonatal KDIGO (Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes). CRP and creatinine serum were measured within 6 hours and at 72-96 hours after birth. The routine blood count included haemoglobin, haematocrit, leucocyte, and thrombocyte in the first 24 hours of life. Latar belakang. Pada bayi baru lahir, anemia dapat mengganggu tumbuh kembang bayi dan memengaruhi sistem kardiorespiratori sehingga dapat menyebabkan kematian. Di Indonesia, penelitian prevalensi anemia bayi baru lahir berdasarkan berat lahir dan usia kehamilan masih sangat jarang. Tujuan. Mengetahui prevalensi anemia pada bayi baru lahir berdasarkan berat lahir dan usia kehamilan. Metode. Penelitian deskriptif dengan metode potong lintang menggunakan data sekunder dari Sistem Registrasi Divisi Neonatalogi Departemen Ilmu Kesehatan Anak RSUP DR. Hasan Sadikin Bandung. Kriteria inklusi adalah bayi yang lahir hidup di periode 1 Januari 2018 hingga 31 Desember 2018. Kriteria eksklusi adalah data rekam medis yang tidak lengkap, hilang atau tidak dapat diakses. Usia kehamilan, berat lahir bayi, dan status anemia dinilai dengan melihat kadar hemoglobin yang tercantum dalam rekam medis. Hasil. Sebanyak 1494 bayi baru lahir sesuai dengan kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 14,5% bayi baru lahir mengalami anemia. Hasil analisis status anemia berdasarkan berat lahir dan usia kehamilan menunjukkan bahwa 79,2% pasien lahir dengan berat lahir rendah dan 75,9% pasien lahir kurang bulan. Kesimpulan. Prevalensi anemia pada bayi berat lahir rendah dan kurang bulan lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan bayi berat lahir normal dan cukup bulan.

Trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome) is cytogenetically classified as a 47,XY,+13 or 47,XX,+13, due to nondisjunction at meiosis I or II, or at mitosis (mosaicism), and partial trisomy due to translocation. Patau syndrome is one of the most common chromosomal anomalies with an estimated incidence of about 1/10,000 births characterized by the presence of cleft lip and/or palate, post axial polydactyly, low set ears, rocker-bottom feet, cryptorchidism, and congenital heart disease. This was a case report of a newborn baby in Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital Bandung in January 2016 with translocation of chromosome 13 segment to chromosome 18 or 47,XY,+13,t(13:18).

Background: Maternal parenting, especially feeding practices, is very important in childhood period and may affect the child’s nutritional state. Proper nutrition affects the growth and development of children. The aim of this study is to describe parenting feeding practices in malnourished under-five children. Methods: A descriptive study on 43 mothers with malnourished under-five children aged 12−59 months was performed in Cipacing Village, Jatinangor, Sumedang during the periode of October−November 2012. Results: The composition of children based on their malnutrition status and description on good and poor parenting were presented in the result. Twenty two children (51.2%) were severely under nourished, 18 children (41.9%) were under nourished, and 3 children (7%) experienced overweight. Good maternal parenting was identified in child nurturing (86%), feeding frequency (93%), feeding style (62.8%), and situation of feeding (74.4%) while poor maternal parenting was observed in feeding time (55.8%) and types of food given (51.2%). Conclusions: Maternal parenting plays an important role in children nutrition status.
