This article presents a comprehensive statistical evaluation of defect frequency in fire alarm systems under real operating conditions, focusing on risk-based factors. The aim is not to introduce a complete RBI approach but rather to assess defect trends that can inform future RBI-based inspection strategies. The study categorizes and evaluates defects by frequency, particularly examining components such as cable and wire systems, acoustic signal devices, and the impact of detector contamination. These findings establish a foundation for developing tailored risk-based inspection and predictive maintenance strategies. A three-stage explanatory research design was employed, analyzing 4629 inspection reports with findings verified through expert surveys and cross-sample analysis. Results indicate that certain components, including acoustic devices and detectors, exhibit a significant increase in defects after 10 years, especially under challenging environmental conditions. Additionally, while ring bus technology supports less frequent functional testing, cable and wire systems require heightened attention in the early operational years. The study also identifies statistically significant trends and their potential for application to a broader system population, supporting enhanced RBI-based maintenance practices. These insights contribute to refining current maintenance approaches and offer practical recommendations for optimizing inspection routines based on risk factors. The article does not propose a system overhaul but lays essential groundwork for further research and improvement in fire alarm system reliability through targeted, risk-informed practices. FIRE alarms , *FIREFIGHTING , *RELIABILITY in engineering , *PHENOMENOLOGICAL theory (Physics) , *HIGH temperatures - Abstract
This article discusses fundamental issues associated with the functional reliability of selected fire alarm systems (FASs) in operation during building fires. FASs operate under diverse external or internal natural environmental conditions, and the operational process of FAS should take into account the impacts of physical phenomena that occur during fires. Their operation is associated with the constant provision of reliability. FAS designers should also consider the system's reliability when developing fire control matrices, tables, algorithms, or scenarios. All functions arising from an FAS control matrix should be implemented with a permissible reliability level, RDPN(t), prior to, as well as during, a fire. This should be assigned to the controls saved in the fire alarm control unit (FCP). This article presents the process by which high temperatures generated during a fire impact the reliability of FAS functioning. It was developed considering selected critical paths for a specific scenario and the control matrix for an FAS. Such assumptions make it possible to determine the impact of various temperatures generated during a fire on the reliability of an FAS. To this end, the authors reviewed that the waveform of the R(t) function changes for a given FAS over time, Δt, and then determined the fitness paths. The critical paths are located within the fire detection and suppression activation process, using FAS or fixed extinguishing devices (FEDs), and the paths were modeled with acceptable and unacceptable technical states. The last section of this article defines a model and graph for the operational process of a selected FAS, the analysis of which enables conclusions to be drawn that can be employed in the design and implementation stages. Fire alarm systems are an important part of the safety concept in complex buildings. For this reason, there are high availability requirements for the systems, which must be sustained by a maintenance concept. A shortage of skilled workers and rising costs in the construction and operation of buildings are pushing these concepts ever further. This study deals with proposed changes to the maintenance strategies to achieve cost and time savings in addition to an improvement in quality. As a first part of the work, the current state of research on developments in fire alarm systems and their maintenance and inspection concepts is analyzed within a literature review. The results serve as a basis for further research, which is based on a qualitative content analysis of expert interviews and standardized surveys to identify the weaknesses in current inspection strategies and future factors influencing the methods and technology of inspections through technical innovations. As a data basis for this study, expert interviews were conducted with experts from manufacturers, industry associations, and standards bodies in order to determine the possible influencing factors. To determine their relevance for the inspection, more than 40 experts were surveyed about testing the systems. The presented results show that new technical risks, such as cyber threats and networked plant structures, are insufficiently covered by current inspection strategies. Furthermore, inspection steps can be substituted by new technologies. The most important influencing factors that can be identified here are automatic self-test functions of components and remote inspection techniques of the systems. Finally, the results are discussed within the framework of a PESTEL analysis. In conclusion, it can be stated that the integration of identified impacts in future inspection strategies brings time and efficiency benefits in the operation of systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents the development of an advanced fire alarm system utilizing GSM technology to provide real-time alerts to farm managers. The system integrates smoke and flame sensors with an Arduino Uno board, employing an LM35 temperature sensor and a SIM module for distant communication. This innovative approach aims to enhance the effectiveness of traditional fire alarm systems by ensuring timely information dissemination and enabling prompt emergency response to prevent fire outbreak in order to safeguard the environment. The fire alarm system shows significant conformity in performance/result with that obtained from literature, regarding the activeness of the device to detecting the outbreak of fire, thereby, safe-guarding properties and lives. The result obtained from the tests carried out shows that at 9.5m and 11.5m distance from the smoke, fire alarm was not triggered. Whereas at distance 7.5m, 5.5m and 3.5m the fire alarm was triggered. The results show the optimum distance of smoke detection to be between 3.5m and 7.5m. The system was therefore adjudged efficient in responding to fire incidents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The proposed conference paper addresses a systemic approach for risk-based third-party inspections of fire alarm systems. In the first part of the article, there is a comprehensive literature review of what the status is regarding current research on the use of risk-based inspection methodology on fire alarm systems. This is followed by an explanation of the chosen methodology. The paper then evaluates and presents the results of expert interviews with manufacturers of fire alarm systems as well as the results of surveys among recognized experts for the inspection of fire alarm systems in Germany. The evaluation is carried out by means of a qualitative content analysis. Using the results from these surveys as well as the findings on defect occurrence-statistics from previous work by the authors, a systemic approach for the risk-based test content to be selected for third-party inspections of the systems by technical experts is then presented. The results serve as a basis for an optimized inspection concept to increase efficiency in the operation of the systems while maintaining or improving availability. Furthermore, suggestions are made as to which inspection contents must be included or given increased attention due to technical innovations as well as a changed risk situation. The last part of the conference contribution is a discussion of the results and a summary of the most important findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: The aim of this article is to discuss the issue of false fire alarms by presenting the most common causes of their occurrence and statistical data, along with the presentation of selected regulatory issues. The article also addresses the issue of minimizing false alarms and the means by which this can be accomplished. Introduction: Due to the fact that triggered fire alarms from fire alarm systems (SSP) initiate a number of triggers of fire protection equipment and can lead to the initiation of fire department actions, it is extremely important to correctly identify the report and confirm its authenticity. However, analysing the statistically available data, it should be noted that unfortunately – despite a number of security methods – false alarms still account for a large percentage of identified calls. This article presents selected false alarm issues from Poland and other countries, such as the United States of America, Germany, Denmark, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Austria. Special attention was paid to statistics on the occurrence of false alarms, formal and legal regulations, causes of false alarms, and used detection elements, including their susceptibility to false reports, along with the methods to reduce them. Methodology: The article uses the results of the authors’ own analysis of the study, made on the basis of the available statistical data from incidents that have occurred, and technical and engineering knowledge of the components of fire alarm system. Conclusions: Analysing the available statistical data, it can be observed that the problem of false alarms is not disappearing. On the contrary – in many countries over the years it is increasing. An increasing percentage of reports from detection systems are false alarms. In addition, considering the available legal regulations, it can be observed that regulations related to false alarms currently focus only on regulating penalties for false alarm reports. Only in a few cases do they concern any other provisions. Nowadays, there are various available methods to protect installations from the occurrence of false alarms, but in order to use them correctly, it is essential that they are properly designed and installed by people with knowledge and experience in this area. Thus, according to the authors, it is reasonable to conclude that the basic requirement for these systems in terms of false fire alarms should be to provide opportunities for obtaining appropriate qualifications and competence among designers, installers and maintainers of SSP systems alike. In order to protect an apartment or office, it is enough to install a security and fire alarm system, the main task of which is to quickly notify property owners or a special service about a fire or unauthorized entry into the premises. A high-quality notification system is one that generates a reliable alarm signal and minimizes spurious action. To maximize the performance of the notification system, it is advisable to use a combined version that will be endowed with internal «intelligence», which will allow you to identify the danger, notify about it, and, if necessary, neutralize the threat. Using a combined detector, which, in addition to sending a danger signal, simultaneously sends a photo of the protected room, will significantly increase the probability of correct detection of a dangerous situation and reduce the probability of a false alarm. The paper shows the possibility of creating a combined system for remote monitoring of unauthorized entry into the room and fire alarm based on the low-cost ESP32-CAM module, which is ideal for independent projects in the field of IoT.

DRONE aircraft , *NATURE reserves - Abstract
This paper presents the concept of using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for surveillance, reconnaissance and determining the extent of fire phenomena. The rapidly developing microelectronics means that UAVs are being used in many areas of life. One of these is firefighting. Their small size, ability to be remotely controlled and low cost have made drones a significant rival to conventional aircraft. The selection of appropriate sensors and control algorithms results in a device capable of efficiently assisting firefighters during operations, especially in difficult-to-access terrain such as forests. However, surveillance of large natural areas such as forests, airports and logistical bases is challenging. Using UAVs can greatly facilitate this process, making it more efficient. This article analyses the possibility of using drones to identify fire characteristic quantities (CFS) and presents a general algorithm for controlling a UAV formation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article reviews issues associated with the use of electronic fire alarm systems (FAS). They are operated in various environments and buildings with varying volumes. FAS have to function properly under different operating conditions associated with their operation, as well as power supply and information inflow. Due to their functions, i.e., ensuring the safety of people, vehicles, logistics bases, airports, etc., FAS have to exhibit an appropriately organized reliability structure associated with their implementation and power supply. Operational studies involving FAS operated in various facilities were conducted to this end. The authors determined damage and recovery time intensities. FAS reliability indicators were also determined. The article presents graphs associated with developing the energy balance for selected FAS. The graphs are consistent with the latest and applicable legal regulations. The next stage of the work related to this article was developing an FAS operation process model and conducting computer simulations in order to determine reliability indicators. Such an approach to the FAS operation process enables a rational selection of technical and organizational solutions aimed at guaranteeing reliability in the course of executing operational tasks associated with ensuring fire safety. FAS operational analysis, developing balance graphs and models, as well as the computer simulation, enabled inferring conclusions that might be useful to the process of engineering and operating such systems. • Divide fire area by equipment function. • Calculate the number of fire detectors required to utilize the floor area and the height of the room. • The substation fire alarm system is established based on the building automation system. • Wavelet transform is used to eliminate the signal noise of fire detector equipment. • The fuzzy characteristic analysis model of fire detector operating state is established. Aiming at the problem that it is difficult to obtain the life cycle law and detection coverage of fire detectors and the low reliability of fire alarm process in urban integrated substation, an optimal layout scheme and operation condition monitoring technology of fire detectors based on local outlier factor and neural network are proposed. Divide fire zones by equipment functions, calculate the number of fire detectors required by using ground area and indoor height, and integrate building automation system to create substation fire alarm system; The signal noise of fire detector equipment is eliminated by wavelet transform, the fuzzy characteristic analysis model of fire detector operation state is established, the local outlier factor is simulated as abnormal data, the past operation data is trained by BP(Back propagation) neural network, the difference between the current state and the normal operation state is obtained, and the detector operation state monitoring is completed. The operation reliability of fire detector is analyzed from the aspects of temperature and smoke perception. The simulation results show that the proposed technology can successfully obtain the life cycle law and detection coverage of fire detector, and ensure the safe use of urban integrated substation. In addition, through a series of experiments, the feasibility and effectiveness of this technology in practical applications are verified. The maximum time consumption of detector working condition monitoring in this method is only 3.3 s. The fitting degree of the method in this paper is 5.7 ml/m3, and the fitting degree of the actual smoke curve is 5.7 ml/m3. The temperature of the method in this paper is lower than 33 °C. In the future development, the introduction of more advanced self-diagnosis technology can be real-time monitoring and analysis of the status of the detector itself, timely detection of faults or anomalies, and automatic alarm or notification of maintenance personnel for repair and maintenance. The paper presents a method for assessing operation processes for Fire Alarm Systems (FAS) applied in civil structures, based on use analysis. Individual FAS devices include components with varying 'lifetimes' and damage intensities λ. This is because these elements are operated in different internal and external environments. Probability distributions with various damage λ and recovery µ intensity values must, hence, be taken into account for the FAS operation process and to determine the R(t) reliability. The life cycle of elements comprising a FAS can be divided into three distinguishing time periods. The first is the so-called 'childhood'. The second, the longest, is characterized by damage intensity λ = const, and the third period is where FAS is unfit more frequently. Based on knowledge of actual FAS operation process data, it is possible to determine damage λ and recovery µ intensity parameters. A fire alarm system (FAS) is one of the most important safety facilities used in any building, and include CCTV and intrusion and panic alarms. Pursuant to the Polish Regulation of the Minister of the Interior and Administration of 07/06/2010, FASs are required in specific civil structures. FASs are directly responsible for the protection of the life and health of humans and animals, and indi-rectly for property at the protected sites. In considering the fire hazards and scenarios, a FAS should be characterized with sufficient reliability. Every FAS is subject to specific requirements in terms of reliability and continuity of performance at the stages of monitoring, FAS failure, and fire. This work is an analysis of the reliability requirements for FAS. Keywords: fire alarm system, reliability requirements, structures.

Aiming at the problems of low fire detection accuracy and high false alarm rate of the current intelligent camera fire accident alarm system, a fire accident alarm system based on fuzzy recognition algorithm is designed. By analyzing the structural principle of the fire detection and alarm system, selecting the CO gas, temperature and smoke sensor selection, designing the corresponding fire signal detection circuit, and designing the single-chip system circuit, including the single-chip clock circuit, reset circuit, power supply circuit and A/D conversion circuit design, on the basis of in-depth study of the Bluetooth communication protocol structure, the hardware design of the serial interface circuit of the single-chip microcomputer, PC and Bluetooth module has been completed. The fuzzy recognition algorithm is used to set the input and output, establish the control rule table and reasoning relationship, generate the input and output rule table, preprocess the sensor signal, and finally output the fire alarm model through the fuzzy inference system, so as to realize the fire accident alarm of the intelligent camera. The experimental results show that the fire detection accuracy of the proposed method is high, and can effectively reduce the false alarm rate and false alarm rate of the system. Improving the safety of human life is one of the main tasks of scientific and technological progress. A dangerous situation occurs when a person is in a dangerous area, i.e. in a space where constantly, periodically, or occasionally there are situations caused by factors that lead to gradual or instantaneous damage to human health. Fire is one of these situations. The safety of technical systems is solidly linked to their reliability. In firefighting automation, the main purpose of calculating reliability is to determine the probability of failure-free operation of the equipment of the system. The value obtained is subsequently used to calculate individual fire risk. To ensure technical safety, it is a universal practice to use system approach and system analysis, which allows us to consider technical security as a system. One of the specific characters of determining the reliability of computer-aided systems is the difference between the reliability indicators of the main elements of the system and the automation system as a whole. The more complex the system, the less reliable it is. The article considers the main problems leading to the efficiency loss of particular items of equipment included in the technical safety systems and formulates the tasks and methods for their reliability assessment. The research features the fire safety system of an industrial building, which includes an automatic fire alarm system and a warning and evacuation system. The paper contains an example of calculating the reliability for an automatic fire alarm system. The authors propose some ways of improving the existing system. The results are processed and presented by the main indicators of system reliability, which are the failure rate and the failure-free operation probability for particular items of equipment and the system as a whole. The research revealed that a manual detector, used as a standby item in the system of thermal and smoke fire detectors, makes it possible to reduce the failure rate of the system and increase the average time of failure-free operation. Thus, it improves the indicators of the system reliability and increases the safety of industrial buildings.

The article presents issues regarding the impact of operating conditions on the functional reliability of representative fire alarm systems (FASs) in selected critical infrastructure buildings (CIB). FAS should operate correctly under variable environmental conditions. FASs ensure the safety of people and CIB. Operational measurements for 10 representative systems were conducted in order to determine the impact of environmental conditions on FAS reliability. Selected operational indices were also determined. The next stage involved developing two models of representative FASs and the availability, pre-ageing time and operating process security indices. Determining operational indices is a rational selection of FAS technical and organizational solutions that enables the reliability level to be increased. Identifying the course of the FAS operating process security hazard changes in individual system lines, particularly at the initial operation stage, enables people that supervise the operation to affect operating parameters on an ongoing basis. The article is structured in the following order: issue analysis, FAS power supply in CIB, operational test results, selected FAS operating process models, determination of operational and security indices, and conclusions.

This paper presents the idea of a fire-alarm system that is based on Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) and Global Positioning System (GPS). Keeping in view the importance of real-time notifications for safety related issues, we developed a fire-alarm system assisted by GSM and GPS technology. It is challenging to monitor homes at far off places. However, the availability of modern sensors and wireless technology have played an important role to deal with such issues efficiently. Moreover, recent improvements in the field of information technology have provided cost effective and efficient solutions. In this study, a low-cost smart fire alarm system is designed and implemented using Arduino microcontroller that continuously receives temperature and humidity signals form the sensors. In case of any emergency, the owner receives warning messages by GSM with the exact location of incident traced by GPS. To get accurate and improved results, a variable threshold alert algorithm is used for temperature compensation and accuracy.

Today, every industry is striving for the highest efficiency and best economic results possible, with the greatest possible competitiveness. But in maritime affairs, human safety and environmental protection are the foundations of sustainability. To achieve this, marine systems must be reliable, high quality and easy to maintain. Because of this, reliability has become an important factor in safety, which remains relevant throughout the lifetimes of ship systems, including fire alarm systems. In this paper we address a number of issues connected with the reliability - and 'availability' of these systems. Firstly, ship fire alarm systems consist of various components whose individual reliability affect the system's overall reliability. Discussions of reliability in ship fire alarm systems normally focus on the length of a system's useful life or performance during design-based fire events. In addition to the reliability of systems, their availability for use is also crucial given the possibility that the system may need to operate at any point in time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper shows the possibility of creating a combined system for remote monitoring of unauthorized entry into the room and fire alarm based on the low-cost ESP32-CAM module, which is ideal for independent projects in the field of IoT.,

A fire alarm system (FAS) is a system comprising signalling-alarm devices, which automatically detect and transmit information about fire, but also receivers of fire alarms and receivers for damage signals. Fire alarm systems function in different environmental conditions. During operation they should be in state of fitness. This is determined by the reliability of the assembled units and rational management of the operation process. Therefore a reliability and operational analysis of fire alarm systems as a whole is essential. This article presents an authorial model and an operational and reliability analysis of FAS, which is exploited in a transport building. It also demonstrates relationships occurring in the analysed system, where to an addressable fire alarm central unit with detection loops and control-monitoring loops alarm device lines (with monitored relay outputs for actuation of alarm-signalling devices) were connected. Research and analysis of results for representative FAS, which were exploited in similar environmental conditions, were conducted in order to determine operational and reliability parameters of the investigated system. FAS computer simulation was run during the time t = 1 year of safety system operation. This led to the calculation of the probability value of the analysed FAS staying in the examined operational states.

Introduction. Screens often surround openings in the floor slabs of atrium buildings to prevent the spread of fire hazards to higher floors and to improve the efficiency of smoke ventilation systems. In this article, the co-authors assess the expediency of installing screens around openings in the floor slabs and identify the best screen height values. In this article, the co-authors perform a quantitative analysis of the ability of screens to prevent the propagation of hazardous fire factors, to identify general regularities typical for a multi-level space, and to develop recommendations for the installation of screens inside public buildings. The co-authors suggest that screen height should be a solution to the following tradeoff problem: the use of screens reduces acceptable evacuation time for the floor that has screens installed and rises the evacuation time for higher floors.Rational screen height selection algorithm. The co-authors propose the following algorithm for the two-stage selection of the rational screen height. At the first stage, the evacuation problem is resolved. As a result, evacuation completion time is determined for emergency exits. Further, acceptable evacuation time and the time needed to block emergency floor exits are identified for a particular type of a fire alarm system. At the second stage, the dynamics of hazardous fire factors in building rooms is assessed for various screen heights. As a result, the rational height of screens is established for the evacuation time to remain positive.Conclusions. Screen height values cannot be determined in advance. Each case requires an individual approach that entails the resolution of evacuation problems and the tracking of the dynamics of hazardous fire factors in buildings that have multi-height spaces. These ideas are in line with the concept of flexible regulation of fire protection systems designated for construction facilities.

The number of casualties in fire-related accidents has increased recently as fires have increased. Among facilities that reduce casualties in case of fire, the alarm is a fire-fighting facility that allows occupants to quickly evacuate to a safe space through alerts in case of danger. Location indicator lamps indicating the location of the transmitter in alarm systems play a very important role in the event of a fire. In the event of a fire, an alarm is issued through the transmitter, and fire transmitters ensure prompt action. However, performance control of the location indicator is not performed during inspection of the legal firefighting facility; only the lighting condition is checked. It is essential to maintain the performance of the location indicator of the transmitter, which can induce rapid evacuation and reduce casualties. This study investigated the performance state and management method of a position indicator lamp that can easily recognize the location of the transmitter. In the case of aging position indicators, it was found that the luminance was low and that identification could not be secured.

Fire is one of the most dangerous phenomena causing major casualties and financial losses in hospitals and healthcare settings. In order to prevent and control the fire sources, first risk assessment should be conducted. Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) is one of the techniques widely used for risk assessment. However, Risk Priority Number (RPN) in this technique does not take into account the weight of the risk parameters. In addition, indirect relationships between risk parameters and expert opinions are not considered in decision making in this method. The aim is to conduct fire risk assessment of healthcare setting using the application of FMEA combined with Multi‐Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods. First, a review of previous studies on fire risk assessment was conducted and existing rules were identified. Then, the factors influencing fire risk were classified according to FMEA criteria. In the next step, weights of fire risk criteria and subcriteria were determined using Intuitionistic Fuzzy Multiplicative Best-Worst Method (IFMBWM) and different wards of the hospital were ranked using Interval-Valued Intuitionistic Fuzzy Combinative Distance-based Assessment (IVIFCODAS) method. Finally, a case study was performed in one of the hospitals of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. In this study, fire alarm system (0.4995), electrical equipment and installations (0.277), and flammable materials (0.1065) had the highest weight, respectively. The hospital powerhouse also had the highest fire risk, due to the lack of fire extinguishers, alarms and fire detection, facilities located in the basement floor, boilers and explosive sensitivity, insufficient access, and housekeeping. The use of MCDM methods in combination with the FMEA method assesses the risk of fire in hospitals and health centers with great accuracy.

Introduction. Rationale of the topic of this article is the need to improve the effectiveness of fire detection. One of the modern solutions to this problem is the use of video technology. The article is aimed at developing a method to assess the effectiveness of video surveillance in the fire protection system on the basis of the formed mathematical model. Methods of research. The fire risks theory is used for formation of mathematical model. The potential fire detection risk is introduced as a quantitative measure of the possibility of undetected fire occurrence at the protected facility, development and implementation of its consequences for people and material valuables. It is calculated as the product of the maximum probability of fire by the probability of its non-detection by the technical means and alarm systems used. The efficiency of video surveillance use in the fire protection system is determined on the basis of compliance of the complex risk index of fire non-detection with the permissible value.Research results. The possibilities of increasing the efficiency of fire detection through the use of video technology are considered. Reducing the fire detection risk can be achieved by using video channel fire detectors that reduce the time it takes to reliably detect a fire. The probability of reliable detection is an important parameter of the detector during its operation in the fire alarm system and characterizes the degree of performance of its main function. The main ways to improve the efficiency of fire detection are the improvement of fire detectors with video channel, the joint use of fire video detectors and other detection devices, such as automatic multi-criteria detectors, thermal imaging сamera, as well as the use of photo and video in centralized surveillance systems.Conclusions. The offered method of estimation of efficiency of application of video surveillance in fire protection systems can be used for a substantiation of parameters of technical means (systems) of the fire alarm system and passive fire-fighting measures established on the facility.
