Background/Objectives: Breastfeeding during pediatric hospitalization is often challenging, especially in a setting where nursing work environments can affect breastfeeding support. This study examines the relationship between nursing work environments and the prevalence of breastfeeding during child hospitalization, focusing on aspects such as nursing workload, stress levels, and quality of work life (QoWL). Methods: A cross-sectional multicenter study was conducted in Italian pediatric hospitals from October 2023 to January 2024. Each ward head nurse completed a form daily for 30 consecutive days to record the number of children breastfed. Nurses' workload, stress, and QoWL were measured using validated self-report questionnaires. Multivariate regression was employed to examine the associations between organizational variables and breastfeeding prevalence. Results: A total of 256 nurses from low- and medium-intensity pediatric wards completed the survey (86.7% female, mean age = 39.2, SD = 9.96). Nurses reported low stress levels (M = 2.74; SD = 0.54) and a good QoWL (M = 3.03; SD = 0.50) despite high workloads (M = 3.34; SD = 0.95). The breastfeeding prevalence mean was 1.12 (SD = 1.38), which was highest in surgical units. Regression analysis revealed that higher breastfeeding prevalence was associated with nurses' female gender (β = 0.17), clinical setting, and higher levels of nurses' QoWL (β = 0.14) (R2 = 0.23; p < 0.001). Conclusions: To enhance breastfeeding support during child hospitalizations, healthcare policies should address workload management, stress reduction, and work–life balance. Aim: This study aims to evaluate how strength use affects thriving at work among Chinese nurses, with a focus on the mediating effects of control beliefs about stress and cognitive reappraisal. Background: Nurses' thriving at work is essential for their well‐being, highlighting the importance of understanding factors that contribute to their thriving. Methods: A comprehensive questionnaire was administered to measure nurses' strength use, control beliefs about stress, cognitive reappraisal, and thriving at work. Data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0, with mediation analyses conducted via the PROCESS macro. The study followed the STROBE checklist to ensure quality and transparency. Results: Based on data from 434 nurses, strength use was positively related to thriving at work (β = 0.455, p < 0.001), control beliefs about stress (β = 0.375, p < 0.001), and cognitive reappraisal (β = 0.467, p < 0.001). Mediation analyses showed that both control beliefs about stress and cognitive reappraisal independently mediated the relationship between strength use and thriving at work, with indirect effects of 0.068 (95% CI [0.011, 0.141]) and 0.092 (95% CI [0.037, 0.154]), respectively. The serial mediation model was also significant (indirect effect = 0.067, 95% CI [0.025, 0.108]). Conclusions: The study highlights the critical role of strength use in enhancing workplace thriving among Chinese nurses, with control beliefs about stress and cognitive reappraisal serving as key mediators. Implications for Nursing Management: Encouraging strength use in healthcare and implementing programs to develop control beliefs about stress and cognitive reappraisal can enhance thriving at work, contributing to a more effective healthcare system. This systematic review aimed to identify and compare instruments measuring nurses' organizational well-being, summarise the dimensions measured by these instruments, the statistical analysis performed for validity evidence and identify an instrument that comprehensively investigates nurses' organizational well-being. The JBI Manual for Evidence Synthesis and the PRISMA checklist were used as guidelines. The search was conducted on Medline, CINAHL, Cochrane Library and Scopus. Critical appraisal and data extraction were drawn on the COSMIN checklist. Dimensions were conceptually synthesized by the measurement concepts' similarity. Twenty-two articles were retrieved and they included 21 instruments that measured nurses' organizational well-being. The instruments vary by dimension number (range 2–19), items (range 12–118) and concept elicitation. A plurality of methodologies has been used in instrument development and assessments of evidence for validity. Only four instruments reported a concurrent criterion validity or a measurement comparison with an already tested-for-validity instrument. Similar dimensions were leadership and support, relationships and communication, work-family balance, work demands, violence, control and autonomy, satisfaction and motivation, work environment and resources, careers, and organizational policy. This review underlines the core areas of the instruments that measure nursing organizational well-being. Background: The effective management of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) relies on the implementation of good practice across the entire multidisciplinary team. The organizational context and the role of head nurses influence the team's performance and behavior. Understanding how decision-making processes influence healthcare professionals' behavior in the management of HAIs could help identify alternative interventions for reducing the risk of infection in healthcare organizations. This study aims to explore how the behaviors promoted and actions implemented by the head nurse can influence healthcare professionals' adherence to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) programs. Methods: A multi-center qualitative study will be conducted using a Grounded Theory approach. Observations will be conducted, followed by individual interviews and/or focus groups. A constructive and representative sample of healthcare professionals who care directly for patients will be enrolled in the study. The COnsolidated criteria for REporting Qualitative research (COREQ) checklist will be followed to ensure the quality of this study protocol. A multistep inductive process will be used to analyze the data. Conclusions: The study results will provide an understanding of how nurses perceive the influence of leadership and how they modify their behaviors and activities toward patients according to IPC programs. The study will identify barriers and facilitators to IPC compliance and suggest strategies to minimize negative patient outcomes, such as the development of an HAI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To develop and psychometrically test an instrument to assess nurses' evidence‐based knowledge and self‐efficacy regarding insertion and management of venous access devices (short peripheral catheter (SPC), long peripheral catheter/midline (LPC) and PICC) and the management of totally implantable central venous catheter (Port) in adult patients. Design: Multicenter cross‐sectional observational study with questionnaire development and psychometric testing (validity and reliability). Methods: An evidence‐based instrument was developed including a 34‐item knowledge section and an 81‐item self‐efficacy section including four device‐specific parts. Nineteen experts evaluated content validity. A pilot study was conducted with 86 nurses. Difficulty and discrimination indices were calculated for knowledge items. Confirmatory factor analyses tested the dimensionality of the self‐efficacy section according to the development model. Construct validity was tested through known group validity. Reliability was evaluated through Cronbach's alpha coefficient for unidimensional scales and omega coefficients for multidimensional scales. Results: Content validity indices and results from the pilot study were excellent with all the item‐content validity indices >0.78 and scale‐content validity index ranging from 0.96 to 0.99. The survey was completed by 425 nurses. Difficulty and discrimination indices for knowledge items were acceptable with most items (58.8%) showing desirable difficulty and most items (58.8%) with excellent (35.3%) or good (23.5%) discrimination power, and appropriate to the content. The dimensionality of the model posited for self‐efficacy was confirmed with adequate fit indices (e.g., comparative fit index range 0.984–0.996, root mean square error of approximation range 0.054–0.073). Construct validity was determined and reliability was excellent with alpha values ranging from 0.843 to 0.946 and omega coefficients ranging from 0.833 to 0.933. Aims This systematic review assesses the organizational well-being of nurses working in cardiovascular settings and identifies environmental variables influencing it. Methods and results The Joanna Briggs Institute's methodology and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines have been followed. The search was conducted, from the database inception up to and including 1 December 2022, on Medline (via PubMed), Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health, Cochrane Library, and Scopus. Critical appraisal and data extraction were conducted using standardized tools. Six articles of high quality were included. These mostly concerned cross-sectional studies, conducted in heterogeneous contexts, which highlight the peculiarity of the cardiovascular nursing setting. Three thematic areas were identified: stressors of cardiovascular settings; outcomes of stressors on nurses; and coping strategies used by cardiovascular nurses to deal with such stress factors. Identified stress factors included a lack of autonomy, conflicts between professional and family roles, high workloads, and stressful relationships with patients and caregivers. These organizational variables could generate nurses' burnout, depression, irritability, and/or sleep disorders. In trying to cope with such stressors, cardiovascular nurses used different strategies for compensating, avoiding, escaping, or ignoring the problem, or, in other cases, became somewhat aggressive. Conclusion Considering the limited data, cardiovascular nursing coping strategies should be further investigated, so that effective pathways for preventing or limiting stress factors can be identified and applied by the organizations. Monitoring and intervening on stress factors in this care setting could improve cardiovascular nurses' organizational well-being and accordingly patients' outcomes. Aims and objectives: To describe and synthesise current knowledge on the maintenance and preservation of vessels in patients who need the placement of a vascular access device. Introduction: To administer drugs, blood or intravenous fluids, nurses or doctors insert a peripheral vascular access device on the arm using the traditional approach. This approach implies that devices are blindly inserted until flow is satisfactory and all possible sites have been exhausted. A proactive approach would ensure at the outset that the best device is used for each patient, eliminating repeated attempts at cannulation. Design: An integrative review was conducted using data recorded until July 2017. Searches were conducted in PubMed, Cochrane Library, CINAHL and Scopus. Review method: A modified version of Cooper's five‐stage method and the PRISMA guidelines were used to perform the integrative review. Results: Nine papers were included in this review. The patients were active participants in a proactive approach to vessel health and preservation. The involvement of each healthcare professional in vessel health and preservation improves outcomes and expands the use of a proactive approach to vascular device management. Because nurses are directly involved in the use of such devices and support patients during the decision‐making process, they should take the lead in the use of the proactive approach. Conclusion: Despite the many documented advantages of the proactive approach to preserving vessels in many settings and healthcare systems, it has not been widely tested. Future research is needed to guarantee high‐quality vessel health and preservation care, thus contributing to the development and dissemination of the proactive approach. Relevance to clinical practice: The proactive approach preserves vessels for future needs, improves the delivery of the treatment plan and reduces length of stay, costs, risk of infection, complications and pain perceived by patients. Aim: To evaluate the outcomes of patients with vascular ulcers in outpatient settings after the implementation of the integrated computerized medical record. The computerization of care pathways can influence the clinical outcomes of hospitalized patients and represent a useful tool in the continuity of care of patients from hospitalization to the specialist outpatient clinic, filling an information and communication gap, up to promoting home management. Method: A computerized medical-nursing outpatient file was implemented at a university hospital, containing initial assessments, re-evaluations, treatments, photographs with vascular lesions, elaborated on the current TIMERS ® guidelines and principles and shared with the vascular surgeon. It also includes medical history, allergies, diagnostic reports, drug therapy, blood tests, pain assessment (NRS scale), lesion size and specialist advice. Results: 80 patients were taken care of from discharge in the Nursing Outpatient Clinic for continuity of care from September 2022 to December 2022. The sharing of clinical-assistance information between the two services and healthcare professionals (vascular surgeon and nurses specialized in wound care) creating a direct communication bridge between the professionals involved and allowed users to benefit from continuity, reducing treatment times and outpatient visits and improving the wound healing process. Conclusions: The patients benefited from a clinical and organizational integration of their treatment path, allowing constant monitoring of the vascular lesion and directly collecting the information necessary for the continuation of the therapeutic process.
