In this paper, we propose a generalization of an improved gauge unfixing formalism in order to generate gauge symmetries in the non-Abelian valued systems. This generalization displays a proper and formal reformulation of second-class systems within the phase space itself. We then present our formalism in a manifestly gauge invariant resolution of the $SU(N)$ massive Yang-Mills and $SU(2)$ Skyrme models where gauge invariant variables are derived allowing then the achievement of Dirac brackets, gauge invariant Hamiltonians and first-class Lagrangians., Comment: 16 pages

Recently, a new procedure to quantize the $SU(N)$ Yang-Mills theory in the nonperturbative regime was proposed. The idea is to divide the configuration space $\{A_\mu\}$ into sectors labeled by different topological degrees of freedom and fix the gauge separately on each one of them. As Singer's theorem on gauge copies only refers to gauge fixing conditions that are global in $\{A_\mu\}$, this construction might avoid the Gribov problem. In this work, we present a proof of the renormalizability in the center-vortex sectors, thus establishing the calculability of the Yang-Mills center-vortex ensemble.

Recently, based on a new procedure to quantize the theory in the continuum, it was argued that Singer's theorem points towards the existence of a Yang-Mills ensemble. In the new approach, the gauge fields are mapped into an auxiliary field space used to separately fix the gauge on different sectors labeled by center vortices. In this work, we study this procedure in more detail. We provide examples of configurations belonging to sectors labeled by center vortices and discuss the existence of nonabelian degrees of freedom. Then, we discuss the importance of the mapping injectivity, and show that this property holds infinitesimally for typical configurations of the vortex-free sector and for the simplest example in the one-vortex sector. Finally, we show that these configurations are free from Gribov copies., Comment: 18 pages

In this work, we analyzed a recent proposal to detect $SU(N)$ continuum Yang-Mills sectors labeled by center vortices, inspired by Laplacian-type center gauges in the lattice. Initially, after the introduction of appropriate external sources, we obtained a rich set of sector-dependent Ward identities, which can be used to control the form of the divergences. Next, we were able to show the all-order multiplicative renormalizability of the center-vortex free sector. These are important steps towards the establishment of a first principles, well-defined, and calculable Yang-Mills ensemble., Comment: 17 pages. No figures. We address the issue of the all order multiplicative renormalizability of $SU(2)$ Gribov-Zwanziger theories quantized in the maximal Abelian gauge in presence of confined matter fields. The non-linear character of the maximal Abelian gauge requires the introduction of quartic interaction terms in the Faddeev-Popov ghosts as well as in the localizing Zwanziger fields, extended a well known feature of this gauge. We show that, when scalar matter fields are introduced, a second quartic interaction term between scalar fields, Faddeev-Popov ghosts and Zwanziger-like fields naturally arises. A BRST invariant action accounting for those quartic interaction terms is identified and proven to be multiplicative renormalizable to all orders by means of the algebraic renormalization procedure., Comment: 28 pages. The Refined Gribov-Zwanziger framework takes into account the existence of equivalent gauge field configurations in the gauge-fixing quantization procedure of Euclidean Yang-Mills theories. Recently, this setup was extended to the family of linear covariant gauges giving rise to a local and BRST-invariant action. In this work, we study the propagators of matter fields within the framework of the Refined Gribov-Zwanziger theory, which takes into account the effects of the Gribov copies in the gauge-fixing quantization procedure of Yang-Mills theory. In full analogy with the pure gluon sector of the Refined Gribov-Zwanziger action, a non-local long-range term in the inverse of the Faddeev-Popov operator is added in the matter sector. Making use of the recent BRST invariant formulation of the Gribov-Zwanziger framework achieved in [Capri et al 2016], the propagators of scalar and quark fields in the adjoint and fundamental representations of the gauge group are worked out explicitly in the linear covariant, Curci-Ferrari and maximal Abelian gauges. In order to construct a gauge invariant two-point function in a Yang-Mills theory, we propose the use of the all-order gauge invariant transverse configurations A^h. Such configurations can be obtained through the minimization of the functional A^2_{min} along the gauge orbit within the BRST invariant formulation of the Gribov-Zwanziger framework recently put forward in [1,2] for the class of the linear covariant gauges. This correlator turns out to provide a characterization of non-perturbative aspects of the theory in a BRST invariant and gauge parameter independent way. In particular, it turns out that the poles of are the same as those of the transverse part of the gluon propagator, which are also formally shown to be independent of the gauge parameter entering the gauge condition through the Nielsen identities. The latter follow from the new exact BRST invariant formulation introduced before. Moreover, the correlator enables us to attach a BRST invariant meaning to the possible positivity violation of the corresponding temporal Schwinger correlator, giving thus for the first time a consistent, gauge parameter independent, setup to adopt the positivity violation of as a signature for gluon confinement. Finally, in the context of gauge theories supplemented with a fundamental Higgs field, we use to probe the pole structure of the massive gauge boson in a gauge invariant fashion., Comment: 31 pages. v2: extended bibliography + new subsection on LKF transformations

We review our recent work on the gauge-invariant non-local dimension-two operator $A^2_{\rm min}$, whose minimization is defined along the gauge orbit. Albeit non-local, the operator $A^2_{\rm min}$ can be cast in local form through the introduction of an auxiliary Stueckelberg field. We prove the renormalizability to all orders of a refined Gribov-Zwanziger type action in linear covariant gauges in four-dimensional Euclidean space. In this model, the Gribov copies are taken into account by requiring that the Faddeev-Popov operator is positive definite with respect to the transverse component of the gauge field, a procedure which turns out to be analogous to the restriction to the Gribov region in the Landau gauge. The model studied here can be regarded as the first approximation of a more general nonperturbative BRST invariant formulation of the refined Gribov-Zwanziger action in linear covariant gauges obtained recently in [Phys. Rev. D 92, no. 4, 045039 (2015) and arXiv:1605.02610 [hep-th]]. A key ingredient of the set up worked out in [Phys. Rev. D 92, no. 4, 045039 (2015) and arXiv:1605.02610 [hep-th]] is the introduction of a gauge invariant field configuration $\mathbf{A}_{\mu}$ which can be expressed as an infinite non-local series in the starting gauge field $A_\mu$. In the present case, we consider the approximation in which only the first term of the series representing $\mathbf{A}_{\mu}$ is considered, corresponding to a pure transverse gauge field. The all order renormalizability of the resulting action gives thus a strong evidence of the renormalizability of the aforementioned more general nonperturbative BRST invariant formulation of the Gribov horizon in linear covariant gauges., Comment: 26 pages, no figures, new references added

We address the issue of the renormalizability of the gauge-invariant non-local dimension-two operator $A^2_{\rm min}$, whose minimization is defined along the gauge orbit. Despite its non-local character, we show that the operator $A^2_{\rm min}$ can be cast in local form through the introduction of an auxiliary Stueckelberg field. The localization procedure gives rise to an unconventional kind of Stueckelberg-type action which turns out to be renormalizable to all orders of perturbation theory. Canonical quantization is reviewed here for the Abelian Lee-Wick model by using the Dirac constraints method, a Gupta-Bleuler-like prescription is implemented and the BRST charge operator for this model is built. New degrees of freedom associated to the (higher derivatives) Lee-Wick ghost are excluded from the (physical) space of observables by the imposition of a Piguet-Nielsen-type BRST-extended symmetry for the Lee-Wick mass term, removing the Lee-Wick mass parameter of the theory, which implies remove all the higher-derivative sector. In addition, another prescription based on a new subsidiary condition of invariance under a purely higher-derivative BRST-type new symmetry is proposed., Comment: 20 pages

We present a local setup for the recently introduced BRST-invariant formulation of Yang-Mills theories for linear covariant gauges that takes into account the existence of gauge copies \`a la Gribov and Zwanziger. Through the convenient use of auxiliary fields, including one of the Stueckelberg type, it is shown that both the action and the associated nilpotent BRST operator can be put in local form. Direct consequences of this fully local and BRST-symmetric framework are drawn from its Ward identities: (i) an exact prediction for the longitudinal part of the gluon propagator in linear covariant gauges that is compatible with recent lattice results and (ii) a proof of the gauge-parameter independence of all correlation functions of local BRST-invariant operators., Comment: 29 pages

In this paper, we discuss the gluon propagator in the linear covariant gauges in $D=2,3,4$ Euclidean dimensions. Non-perturbative effects are taken into account via the so-called Refined Gribov-Zwanziger framework. We point out that, as in the Landau and maximal Abelian gauges, for $D=3,4$, the gluon propagator displays a massive (decoupling) behaviour, while for $D=2$, a scaling one emerges. All results are discussed in a setup that respects the Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) symmetry, through a recently introduced non-perturbative BRST transformation. The non-perturbative nilpotent exact BRST symmetry of the Gribov-Zwanziger action in the Landau gauge constructed in [ arXiv:1506.06995 [hep-th]] is generalized to the case of Euclidean Yang-Mills theories quantized in the maximal Abelian gauge. The resulting diagonal gluon propagator is evaluating in dimensions D=4,3,2. The inverse of the Faddeev-Popov operator plays a pivotal role within the Gribov-Zwanziger approach to the quantization of Euclidean Yang-Mills theories in Landau gauge. Following a recent proposal [Phys. Rev. D90 (2014) 085010], we show that the inverse of the Faddeev-Popov operator can be consistently coupled to quark fields. Such a coupling gives rise to a local action while reproducing the behaviour of the quark propagator observed in lattice numerical simulations in the non-perturbative infrared region. By using the algebraic renormalization framework, we prove that the aforementioned local action is multiplicatively renormalizable to all orders., Comment: 17 pages
