In this paper we present Kratylos, at www.kratylos.org/, a web application that creates searchable multimedia corpora from data collections in diverse formats, including collections of interlinearized glossed text (IGT) and dictionaries. There exists a crucial lacuna in the electronic ecology that supports language documentation and linguistic research. Vast amounts of IGT are produced in stand-alone programs without an easy way to share them publicly as dynamic databases. Solving this problem will not only unlock an enormous amount of linguistic information that can be shared easily across the web, it will also improve accountability by allowing us to verify analyses across collections of primary data. We argue for a two-pronged approach to sharing language documentation, which involves a popular interface and a specialist interface. Finally, we briefly introduce the potential of regular expression queries for syntactic research.

This paper presents PCSMA, an extension to the CSMA/CD protocol (used in the Ethernet) to support both conventional datagram traffic and real-time traffic. The protocol provides predictable packet-delivery bounds for real-time traffic. It does not require changes to existing Ethernet controllers for datagram traffic. Under the new protocol, periodic sources follow a variation of the CSMA protocol that requires them to reserve transmission slots before they can begin transmission. This protocol is intended particularly for use in the integrated network in a manufacturing shop. Periodic sources include multiple sensors generating disparate types and rates of data. We have carried out an extensive performance evaluation of the protocol using a simulation model. The results are impressive: PCSMA shows fewer collisions than CSMA, equivalent delays for conventional traffic, and no failures to meet deadlines for periodic traffic.

A Web-based organic chemistry home work program, EPOCH is developed, whose two most important features are that student draw structures as responses to posed questions, and then students receive feedback tailored specifically to their responses. EPOCH is a tool that can have a real effect on student learning and provides one-to-one interaction with a professor or with knowledgeable peers, which is the best way for a student to learn organic chemistry.
