Abstract

Chemical interaction and changes in local electronic structure of Cr, Fe, Co, Ni and Cu transition metals (TMs) upon formation of an $Al_{8}Co_{17}Cr_{17}Cu_{8}Fe_{17}Ni_{33}$ compositionally complex alloy (CCA) have been studied by X-ray absorption spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was found that upon CCA formation, occupancy of the Cr, Co and Ni 3d states changes and the maximum of the occupied and empty Ni 3d states density shifts away from Fermi level ($E_f$) by 0.5 and 0.6 eV, respectively, whereas the Cr 3d empty states maximum shifts towards $E_f$ by 0.3 eV, compared to the corresponding pure metals. The absence of significant charge transfer between the elements was established, pointing to the balancing of the 3d states occupancy change by involvement of delocalized 4s and 4p states into the charge redistribution. Despite the expected formation of strong Al-TMs covalent bonds, the Al role in the transformation of the TMs 3d electronic states is negligible. The work demonstrates a decisive role of Cr in the Ni local electronic structure transformation and suggests formation of directional Ni-Cr bonds with covalent character. These findings can be helpful for tuning deformation properties and phase stability of the CCA.

Abstract

New superconstructional polyarylates with glass transition temperatures from 216 to 280°C and polyethersulfones with glass transition temperatures from 230 to 255°C have been developed. On the basis of these polymers, industrial polysulfone PSFF-30, PSF-150, polyethersulfone E-3010, polyetherimide Ultem 1000, PEEK and PEKK, and two types of carbon fabrics, thermoplastic prepregs and consolidated carbon composite plates were obtained, and their mechanical properties under compression and three-point bending were determined.

Abstract

The non-dispersed soft x-ray emission from a La/B4C periodic multilayer irradiated by monochromatic x-rays has been measured as a function of the incident photon energy in the 125-200 eV range for different scattering angles. We have observed a scattered intensity peak at incident energies which shift towards the low-energy side as the value of the scattering angle increases. These observations are interpreted as Raman scattering by the 5p level of lanthanum assisted by Bragg diffraction from the lattice of the periodic multilayer. A simple model based upon the laws of energy and momentum conservation enables us to account for the variation of the incident energy associated with the Bragg-Raman peak., Comment: 11 pages

Abstract

The Rietveld quantitative phase analysis of the HfO2 active layer in the Si-sub./SiO2/HfO2/TiN layered structures has been carried out at different annealing temperatures and dopant types. The HfO2 crystal structure has been additionally examined by transmission electron microscopy. A relationship between the dopant valence and crystalline phases forming in the HfO2 film has been found. It is shown that the Al doping followed by high-temperature annealing prevents the formation of the tetragonal phase (sp. gr. P42/nmc) in favor of the formation of the polar orthorhombic phase (sp. gr. Pca21). The results obtained can be used in the synthesis of HfO2-based ferroelectric films for non-volatile memory systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
