Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of aging and fiber‐reinforcement on the color stability, translucency, and microhardness of single‐shade resin composites versus multi‐shade resin composite. Materials and Methods: Four resin composites (Filtek Z250, Omnichroma, Vittra APS Unique, Zenchroma) were tested. Three subgroups of specimens were prepared for each of the composites: control, polyethylene fiber‐reinforcement, and glass fiber‐reinforcement‐ groups (n = 10/per group). The samples were subjected to aging for 10,000 thermal cycles. Color differences (ΔE00) were calculated after aging. Relative translucency parameter (RTP00) and microhardness values were calculated before and after aging. A two‐way analysis of variance and the generalized linear model was used (p < 0.05). Results: The lowest and highest ΔE00 values were found for Filtek Z250 (0.6 ± 0.2) and Omnichroma resin composites (1.6 ± 0.4), respectively. The ΔE00 value of the polyethylene fiber‐reinforcement group (1.2 ± 0.6) was significantly higher than the ΔE00 value of the glass fiber‐reinforcement group (1.0 ± 0.4, p < 0.001). The RTP00 value of the glass fiber‐reinforcement group (1.92 ± 0.78) was significantly higher than the RTP00 value of the polyethylene fiber‐reinforcement group (1.72 ± 0.77, p < 0.001). The highest microhardness values were found in glass fiber‐reinforcement group (76.48 ± 17.07, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Single‐shade resin composites were more translucent, had higher color change, and lower hardness than multi‐shade resin composite. For relative translucency and microhardness, statistical significance was found in the material and fiber type interaction. The glass fiber‐reinforcement provided higher translucency, lower color change and higher microhardness values than polyethylene fiber‐reinforcement group after aging. Thermocycling had a significant impact on the color stability, translucency parameter, and microhardness of the tested resin composite materials. Clinical Significance: Single‐shade resin composite materials have greater color‐changing potential. The glass fiber‐reinforcement optimize resin material mechanical properties and color stability more than polyethylene fiber‐reinforcement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Flipped classroom (FC) model has become increasingly popular in dental education (DE) with its strengths for students. However, major concerns are lack of interaction, unwillingness to complete the assignments, low engagement during the pre‐class activities because of an unwell‐designed instructional setting of FC. Objectives: The recent study aims to investigate the effects of video‐driven discussions integrated into the flipped classroom (VdDs‐FC) model on dental students' (DSs) learning achievement, practical performance, and higher‐order thinking skills in a restorative dentistry course. Methods: This study adopted a sequential explanatory design from mixed‐methods research. A total of 96 DSs participated in a dentistry faculty of Türkiye. They were randomly divided into two groups: VdDs‐FC group and the conventional flipped classroom (c‐FC) group. Results and conclusions: The results showed that the VdDs‐FC model had significant positive effects on the practical performance of DSs in practical subjects and their problem‐solving and critical thinking skills. However, there was no significant difference between the two groups in learning achievement and creativity. The use of FC in the c‐FC group did not lead to any difference in the students' achievements. Moreover, the qualitative results indicated that the VdDs‐FC model has the potential for enhancing peer learning, practical classroom activities, and higher‐order thinking skills. Implications: This study also includes several instructional implications and suggestions for educators, researchers, and practitioners on use of FC in dentistry. Lay Description: What is already known about this topic: Flipped learning has become a rapidly growing area of dentistry research.Discussion board could be beneficial to increasing dental students' higher order thinking skills, especially problem solving and critical thinking.Video‐driven discussions into flipped classroom provide several opportunities for practical performance in dental education, not for theoretical knowledge. What this paper adds: Video‐driven discussions into flipped classroom model is proposed.We compared two learning environments by including traditional flipped classroom.We found that the integrated model with flipped classroom can have a positive impact on students' achievement.Online discussions usage contributed to higher cognitive, affective, and behavioural learning outcomes.Based on interview data, the proposed model supports peer learning. Purpose The purpose of the study was to investigate the impact of repolishing procedures on the color change of bulk-fill resin composites after being exposed to coffee. Materials and Methods Four bulk-fill resin composites (Filtek One bulk-fill, Tetric EvoCeram bulk-fill, Admira Fusion x-tra bulk-fill, Grandio SO x-tra bulk-fill) were tested. Sixty samples were prepared with each resin composite and were randomly divided into two groups: first one received the one-step polishing system (Optragloss) and the other group received the two-step polishing system (Nova Twist) (n=30). After being kept in coffee for 12 days, the samples were divided into three subgroups according to repolishing: one-step repolishing group, two-step repolishing group, and non-repolishing group (n=10 for each). Color measurements of the resin composite samples were determined with a spectrophotometer. The difference in color change was calculated using the CIEDE 2000 color formula. The data were analyzed using three-way ANOVA and Tukey test. Results Among composite materials, Filtek One bulk-fill (1.84 ± 0.98) less color change was observed compared to others (p<0.001). In terms of polishing systems, Optragloss (2.96 ± 1.51) showed significantly greater color change than Nova Twist (2.21 ± 1.07) (p<0.001). The non-repolishing group (3.78 ± 1.25) presented significantly greater color change than the Nova Twist sytem (1.49 ± 0.61) and Optragloss system (2.50 ± 1.01) (p<0.001). Conclusion The repolishing process reduced discoloration. A two-step repolishing system results in less color change compared to a one-step repolishing application. In polishing systems containing diamond particles, increasing the number of steps can contribute to color stability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: In this study, cadavers of 5 adult Aksaray Malakli breed dogs were used to examine the structure of the lumbosacral plexus, which provides innervation of the hindlimb and pelvic region. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the nerve root composition of the lumbosacral plexus, determine the branching patterns, map the nerve directions macro-anatomically, and collect data for future comparisons with similar breeds. Methods: The corpses were kept in a formaldehyde pool (10%) for 14 days. After this period, the anatomical area was dissected using appropriate techniques to identify the lumbosacral plexus nerves and roots. The course and origin of the nerves forming the plexus were identified and photographed. Results: In all 5 cadavers, the lumbosacral plexus originated from the L4-S3 nerves. The plexus comprised n. ischiadicus, n. tibialis, n. obturatorius, n. femoralis, n. saphenous, n. pelvini, n. pudendus, n. cutaneus femoris caudalis, n. peroneus communis, and n. gluteus caudalis. Conclusion: It was determined that n. femoralis was formed from the ventral branches of the L4 and L5 nerves and the cranial branch of the L6 nerve. N. obturatorius originated from the caudal branch of L5 and the ventral branch of L6. It was determined that n. ischiadicus originated from the L6 caudal, L7 and ventral branch of S1 nerves. The femur branched into n. tibialis and n. peroneus communis (n. fibularis) at the level of extremitas distalis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Using a three-dimensional finite element analysis, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of different cements' thicknesses and Poisson's ratios on the stress distribution in enamel, dentin, restoration, and resin cement in a computer-aided design of a class II disto-occlusal cavity. Dental tomography was used to scan the maxillary first molar, creating a three-dimensional tooth model. A cavity was created with a 95 degree cavity edge angle. Resin cement with varying Poisson's ratios (V1: 0.35 and V2: 0.24) was used under the amalgam. The simulated groups' thicknesses ranged from 50 µm to 150 µm. A load of 600 N was applied to the chewing area. The finite element method was used to assess the stress distribution in the enamel, dentin, restorations, and resin cement. The stress in the restoration increased with the use of a 100 µm resin cement thickness and decreased with the use of a 150 µm resin cement thickness. For the V1 and V2 groups, the cement thickness with the maximum stress value for the enamel and dentin was 150 µm, while the cement thickness with the lowest stress value was 50 µm. The greatest stress values for V1 and V2 were obtained at a 150 µm cement thickness, while the lowest stress values were observed at a 100 µm cement thickness. Using resin cement with a low Poisson's ratio under amalgam may reduce stress on enamel and restorations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of whitening mouthwashes on the translucency parameter (TP) at different times of resin composites after coloring with coffee. A total of 90 samples were prepared from resin materials (Estelite Σ Quick, G-aenial Anterior, Omnichroma). After being kept in coffee for 12 days, the samples were divided into three subgroups (n = 10). The initial (T0) measurement of the TP values was recorded. Control groups were kept in distilled water, and the other groups were kept in two different types of mouthwash (Listerine Advanced White and Crest 3D White). The TP values were recorded at the end of 24 h (T1) and 72 h (T2). The TP values were determined using the CIEDE2000 formula. Two-way analysis of variance and the Tukey test were used (p < 0.05). The lowest ΔTP value was observed in the control group at T0–T1 and T0–T2. The highest ΔTP value was observed with Crest 3D White mouthwash at T0–T2. However, there was no difference with Listerine Advanced White. Among the composites, the highest ΔTP value was found in G-aenial Anterior at T0–T2, and the lowest ΔTP value was found in Omnichroma at T0–T1. Whitening mouthwashes caused an increase in the translucency values of resin composites over time. Purpose: To evaluate the effect of whitening mouthrinses on the color change, whiteness change, surface roughness, and hardness of stained resin composites after different immersion times. Methods: Three different resin composites (Estelite E Quick, G-Aenial Anterior, Omnichroma) were used to prepare a total of 90 samples (30 samples from each resin composite). The samples were kept in coffee for 12 days, then divided into three subgroups (Control, Crest 3D White, and Listerine Advanced White; n=10 each). Color change (AEoo) and whiteness change (AWID) were evaluated at time intervals of 0-24 hours (TO-T 1), 0-72 hours (TO-TZ), and 24-72 hours Crl-T2). Surface roughness and hardness values were evaluated at TO, Tl, and T2 after immersion in mouthrinses. Two-way ANOVA (for color and whiteness changes) and generalized linear model (for surface roughness and hardness) were used for data analyses (P< 0.05). Results: Omnichroma had the highest value for color change with Crest 3D White during TO-T 1 and TO-T2. Crest 3 D White showed better color changes than Listerine Advanced White. In all composites and mouthrinse groups, the highest and lowest values of AWID were at TO-T2 and T 1 -T2. respectively, with the highest value for Omnichroma with Crest 3D White at TO-T2 and the lowest for G-Aenial Anterior with control groups at Tl-T2. The highest roughness values were found with the Omnichroma at T2. Whitening mouthrinses significantly increased roughness and decreased hardness compared to baseline. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: This case report describes the restorative treatment process of a nonsyndromic unilateral peg-shaped left mandibular central incisor. Case presentation: A 23-year-old female patient was admitted for aesthetic concerns related to the appearance of the anterior mandible and a peg-shaped incisor. The color selection was done on clean, hydrated teeth. The teeth were roughened with a minimal red belt bur, a 37% phosphoric acid gel was applied to the enamel for 30 seconds, and the teeth were washed with water for 30 seconds to remove the acid agent. Following the application of a universal adhesive to the surface according to the manufacturer's instructions, the palatal and proximal walls were formed using a mylar strip and an A2B-colored resin composite. Then, polymerization of the restoration was completed using an incremental layering technique. After the removal of any excess restoration, low-speed finishing and polishing were done using aluminum oxide and flexible rubber polishing disks containing diamond particles. After the resin application, the treatment was completed. Conclusion: To achieve optimal results in the treatment of patients, restorative treatment can be recommended, considering the position and condition of the tooth. When choosing the most appropriate treatment for a patient, the advantages and limitations of each technique should be carefully explained, and the most conservative treatment should be recommended. The aim of this study is to evaluate dentistry students for changes in anxiety levels between the initial outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the point where COVID restrictions were reduced to a minimum and to compare their perspectives on distance education at both points in time. Methodology: The participants in this study were undergraduate students (n = 297) from the Faculty of Dentistry who volunteered to answer a questionnaire that asked them to detail the anxiety levels that they experienced during the COVID-19 period and during the months after COVID-related restrictions were lifted. The students were also asked for their opinions about the theoretical dentistry lessons delivered by distance education. The measurement values obtained were subjected to the independent sample t-test for comparisons between groups and to the one-way analysis of variance for comparisons of more than two groups. The Pearson correlation analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between anxiety levels. A value of p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: When asked whether technology-based education was beneficial, and whether theoretical education should be realized through distance education, men answered yes at a higher rate than women. (p < 0.05). It was also observed that, compared to the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the anxiety scores of the participants were lower in the months after pandemic restrictions were reduced. Conclusion: According to the findings, it was observed that male students were more inclined to use the internet, to believe that technology-based education was beneficial, to prefer distance education over face-to-face education, and to be more motivated in distance education than face-to-face education. COVID-19 has impacted face-to-face education with a sudden transition to distance education, and these results support the importance of identifying the deficiencies in this education method and developing this system. Objectives: The aim of the current study was to evaluate the effect of polishing systems and surface sealant on the color stability and whiteness index of single-shade resin composites after staining and bleaching., Materials and Methods: Three single-shade (Omnichroma, Charisma Diamond One, Zenchroma) and one multi-shade (Filtek Z250) materials were tested. From each resin composite, 40 specimens were prepared. The specimens were divided into 4 subgroups ( n = 10) according to the surface treatments: 1-step polishing, 1-step + Biscover LV, 2-step polishing, and 2-step polishing + Biscover LV. Color differences (ΔE 00 ) were calculated after being immersed in the coffee solution for 12 days. After the staining, the specimens were immersed in a whitening mouthrinse (Crest-3D White) for 12 hours. Whiteness index differences (∆WI D = WI D after staining - WI D after bleaching) values were recorded. The generalized linear model was used for analysis ( p  < 0.05)., Results: The lowest and highest ΔE 00 values were found for Zenchroma and Charisma Diamond One respectively. Sealed groups indicated higher ΔE 00 values than nonsealed groups with significant differences ( p = 0.008). The lowest and highest ΔWI D values were found for Zenchroma and Charisma Diamond One respectively. Sealed groups indicated lower ΔWI D values than nonsealed groups with significant differences ( p = 0.022)., Conclusions: The use of surface sealant increased the discoloration and showed less whiteness change in resin materials.
