Nowadays there are many attempts for sustainable development due to rapid industrialization. In this context, thymol and carvacrol, which are obtained from many plants, are highly promising components in many industries due to their multifunctionalities. However, their water insolubility, instability, and volatility are significant drawbacks that must be addressed. To overcome these issues, they are commonly incorporated into fibrous structures for applications in the food and human health-related industries. With advances in technology, thymol/carvacrol containing fibrous structures have been generated using various techniques, widening their applications in the related fields. While their anti-bacterial properties have been widely exploited in various applications, this review article covers their anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-septic, anti-cancer, anti-microbial (anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-biofilm, and anti-viral), anti-parasitic (insecticidal, anti-malaria, anti-acaricidal (anti-mite and anti-tick), anti-toxoplasmosis, and anti-leishmaniasis) properties, considering all the broadened applications of thymol/carvacrol containing fibrous structures. Ever-increasing food and human health-related incidences will accelerate the uttermost exploitation of all functionalities of thymol and carvacrol in multifaceted ways. Nanoscale containers and fibrous structures will be the pioneers for finding new and more effective applications of thymol and carvacrol. For example, they could find applications not only in packaging for market shelves but also in entire food chain, including plant protection in agriculture (pre-harvest and post-harvest), transportation, and storage of food/crop. Fibrous structures containing thymol/carvacrol will also enable new and diverse applications in hygiene & preventive care, comfort & well-being in addition to wound healing and tissue engineering in the human health. A detailed future perspective is provided related to all these applications.

Abstract Background Consumption of dietary fiber has been suggested as an important aspect of a healthy diet to reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS), including cardiovascular disease. The role of fiber intake in MetS might differ by individual genetic susceptibility. APOA5 encodes a regulator of plasma triglyceride levels, which impacts the related mechanisms of MetS. This study investigated the association between dietary fiber and the risk of MetS, assessing their associations according to APOA5 genetic variants. Methods A total of 1985 participants aged 30–55 years were included from a cross-sectional study based on the Korean Medicine Daejeon Citizen Cohort study at baseline (2017–2019). Dietary fiber intake was measured using a semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire. The APOA5 polymorphisms (rs2266788 A > G, rs662799 A > G, and rs651821 T > C) were genotyped using the Asia Precision Medicine Research Array. Logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). Results A higher consumption of dietary fiber was associated with a lower prevalence of MetS (P = 0.025). Among the components of MetS, an inverse association with dietary fiber was observed in increased waist circumference (OR, 95% CI = 0.60, 0.41–0.88, P for trend = 0.009) and elevated triglycerides (OR, 95% CI = 0.69, 0.50–0.96, P for trend = 0.012). Regarding the interaction with APOA5 genetic variants, a stronger association with dietary fiber intake was shown in G allele carriers of rs662799 than in A/A carriers (OR, 95% CI = 2.34, 1.59–3.44, P for interaction = 0.024) and in C allele carriers of rs651821 than in T/T carriers (OR, 95% CI = 2.35, 1.59–3.46, P for interaction = 0.027). Conclusions The findings of this study suggest that the benefits of dietary fiber on the risk of MetS could be modified by genetic variants of the APOA5 gene, providing a more effective strategy for preventing MetS.

Wearing hats and caps in sunny areas to protect from sunrays is frequent in hot areas or as a requirement for fashion lines, especially in summer and spring times. A number of fabrics were woven, their permeability properties were measured, and the extent to which they protected hair from airborne dust and sunlight, by measuring the porosity of the tested fabrics. The best tested fabrics for permeability and porosity were selected and coated with copolymer to increase protection from the sun's rays by measuring the sun protection factor (UPF) using diffuse transmission spectrophotometer. Cap was designed using Gerber software. The results showed that choosing the appropriate fabrics in the manufacture of hats and caps prevents damage to the hair.

ABSTRAK Kulit buah naga merah mengandung serat, antioksidan, dan antimikroba yang cukuptinggi sehingga apabila digunakanpadapembuatanmi basah dapat memperkaya kandungan nutrisi dan memperpanjang umur simpanmi basah.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaankulit buah naga merah dalam bentuk sari terhadap kadar serat kasar, daya simpan, karakteristik sensoris pada mi basah.Penelitian dirancang menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap terdiri dari 5 ulangan dan 4 perlakuan yakni penggunaan sari dengan konsentrasi 0% (P0); 30% (P1); 60% (P2); dan 90% (P3). Sampel mi basah dengan perlakuan P3memberikan hasilterbaik dengan kadar serat kasar sebesar 2.10%, daya simpan selama 43.2 jam, tekstur kenyal serta berwarna merah muda. Peningkatan konsentrasi sari yang digunakan meningkatkan kandungan kadar serat kasar, daya simpan, dan daya terima panelis terhadap produk mi basah. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of using red dragon fruit peel in the form of juice on crude fiber content, shelf life, and sensory characteristics of wet noodles. This research was designed using a completely randomized design consisting of 5 replicates and 4 treatments, namely the use of juice with a concentration of 0% (P0); 30% (P1); 60% (P2); and 90% (P3). Samples wet noodles with P3 treatment experienced the best treatment with crude fiber content of 2.10%, shelf life for 43.2 hours, chewy texture and pink color. Increasing the concentration of juice used increases the crude fiber content, shelf life, and panelist acceptance of wet noodles products. Abstract In recent years, wearable electrochemical biosensors have received increasing attention, benefiting from the growing demand for continuous monitoring for personalized medicine and point‐of‐care medical assistance. Incorporating electrochemical biosensing and corresponding power supply into everyday textiles could be a promising strategy for next‐generation non‐invasive and comfort interaction mode with healthcare. This review starts with the manufacturing and structural design of electrochemical biosensing textiles and discusses a series of wearable electrochemical biosensing textiles monitoring various biomarkers (e.g., pH, electrolytes, metabolite, and cytokines) at the molecular level. The fiber‐shaped or textile‐based solar cells and aqueous batteries as corresponding energy harvesting and storage devices are further introduced as a complete power supply for electrochemical biosensing textiles. Finally, we discuss the challenges and prospects relating to sensing textile systems from wearability, durability, washability, sample collection and analysis, and clinical validation.

Gravitropism is an adaptive reaction of plants associated with the ability of various plant organs to be located and to grow in a certain direction relative to the gravity vector, while usually the asymmetric distribution of the phytohormone auxin is a necessary condition for the gravitropical bending of plant organs. Earlier, we described significant morphological changes in phloem fibers with a thickened cell wall located on different sides of the stem in the area of the gravitropic curvature. The present study is the first work devoted to the identification of genes encoding auxin transporters in cells at different stages of development and during gravity response. In this study, the flax genes encoding the AUX1/LAX, PIN-FORMED, PIN-LIKES, and ABCB auxin transporters were identified. A comparative analysis of the expression of these genes in flax phloem fibers at different stages of development revealed increased expression of some of these genes at the stage of intrusive growth (LusLAX2 (A, B), LuxPIN1-D, LusPILS7 (C, D)), at the early stage of tertiary cell wall formation (LusAUX1 (A, D), LusABCB1 (A, B), LusABCB15-A, LusPIN1 (A, B), LusPIN4-A, and LusPIN5-A), and at the late stage of tertiary cell wall development (LusLAX3 (A, B)). It was shown that in the course of gravitropism, the expression of many genes, including those responsible for the influx of auxin in cells (LusAUX1-D), in the studied families increased. Differential expression of auxin transporter genes was revealed during gravity response in fibers located on different sides of the stem (upper (PUL) and lower (OPP)). The difference was observed due to the expression of genes, the products of which are responsible for auxin intracellular transport (LusPILS3, LusPILS7-A) and its efflux (LusABCB15-B, LusABCB19-B). It was noted that the increased expression of PIN genes and ABCB genes was more typical of fibers on the opposite side. The results obtained allow us to make an assumption about the presence of differential auxin content in the fibers of different sides of gravistimulated flax plants, which may be determined by an uneven outflow of auxin. This study gives an idea of auxin carriers in flax and lays the foundation for further studies of their functions in the development of phloem fiber and in gravity response.

A series of experiments was conducted to study the performance and mechanisms of Cemented Ultrafine Tailings Backfill (CUTB). Firstly, the optimum fiber type was selected by single factor multilevel test. Secondly, the effects of cement content, rice husk ash content, fiber content and fiber length on backfill properties were analyzed by orthogonal test and microstructure test, and the influence mechanism of fiber and rice husk ash content was revealed. Finally, fuzzy mathematics theory is used to optimize the ratio parameters. The results show, compared to glass and basalt fiber, polypropylene fiber yields the most substantial enhancement in backfill strength. The increase of cement content, polypropylene fiber content and length can reduce slump, but the change of rice husk ash content has no obvious effect. Increased cement or fiber content effectively restrained the formation of primary fractures in CUTB, thus enhancing its integrity. Adding an optimal dosage range of 0–4 % of rice husk ash boosted the early compressive strength, albeiting at the expense of later compressive strength. Fiber addition with the optimum content range between 0.1 and 0.4 % enhanced the strengthening effect of cement content on compressive strength. Fiber primarily enhances the macroscopic strength of backfill through the dispersion and co-loading of forces, whereas rice husk ash enhances strength by optimizing void structure distribution. The optimal ratio parameters of a cement content of 310 kg/m³, rice husk ash content of 8.0 %, fiber content of 0.4 %, and fiber length of 9 mm were proposed finally.

This study explores the relationship between natural fiber filling density (10%, 15%, 25%) and its impact on the bending properties of polymer compounds reinforced with Diss, Sisal and Luffa fibers. Using advanced techniques like fiber analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), the research reveals that a 25% filling density results in the highest stress values (25.61 MPa, 22.21 MPa and 20.88 MPa) for Diss, Sisal and Luffa compounds, respectively, fostering robust bonds in Diss-reinforced polymers. The Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model demonstrates superior predictive capability with correlation coefficients exceeding 0.99 for stress and displacement, outperforming Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) underscores the impact of sample section parameters and fiber rate on stress, establishing the significance of type parameters and fiber rate on displacement. This integration of ANN and RSM represents a paradigm shift in predicting bending mechanical properties, advancing our understanding of composite materials for innovative applications. Suspended dust plays a critical role in regulating the Martian climate by influencing the atmospheric thermal gradient, altering the amount of infrared and visible energy absorbed and scattered by the atmosphere, and acting as condensation nuclei for CO 2 ice-clouds particles. There are many well demonstrated, dust-related effects on martian climate which depend on dustsize, concentration, chemical and bulk composition. Currently, an accurate estimation of these parameters is lacking as they are derived from indirect measurement of the optical depth acquired from the surface and orbital data. These indirect measurements require a priori assumptions on the grain distribution curve and are hence subject to possible biases. To overcome these limitations, an optical particles counter called MicroMED has been developed under the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) leadership. MicroMED can measure the sizes of individual dust grains in a specific volume of air thus providing the grain size distribution and concentration. MicroMED has been selected to join the Dust Complex payload on board the ExoMars 2022. The Flight Model of the instrument has been developed and optimized starting from two prototype BreadBoard versions. Here we present the sub-systems that constitute MicroMED and their testing and characterization process, performed using the Breadboard models. Thermoelectric (TE) fibers are more suitable than films for portable or wearable devices. Herein, 2–3 nm thick poly (3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene): poly (styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) layer‐coated tellurium nanowires (PC‐Te NWs) are in situ prepared by a hydrothermal method. Then a series of PEDOT: PSS/PC‐Te NWs composite fibers are prepared by wet spinning and post‐treatment. The nanolayer prevents the agglomeration of the Te NWs and makes the NWs and PEDOT:PSS matrix have good compatibility, which results in the PC‐Te NWs content to a high value of 70 wt% and the fibers still with flexibility. The high aspect ratio of the PC‐Te NWs and the stress from the inner wall of the needle during spinning make the NWs ordered align along the composite fiber. Due to the large content and orientational arrangement of the PC‐Te NWs, as well as effective post‐treatment, an optimized composite fiber shows a power factor of 385.4 µW m−1 K−2 at 300 K, which is ≈4.9 times as high as the highest value of previously reported PEDOT:PSS/Te NWs‐based composite fibers. In addition, the composite fiber has good flexibility. The flexible TE generators assembled have excellent output performance. Fiber gel dye‐sensitized solar cells (FGDSCs) are recognized as an effective solution for high‐performance, durable and safe wearable power supply. However, poor and unstable interfaces between fiber electrodes and gel electrolytes are bottleneck problems that have restricted the photovoltaic performances of FGDSCs and their stabilities during deformations. Here, an FGDSC with stable interlaced interfaces is designed by incorporating polymerized gel electrolyte into the aligned channels in fiber electrodes and the gaps between photoanode and counter electrode in situ. The interlaced structure of gel electrolyte in FGDSC improves the interfacial stability and provided stable channels for rapid ion diffusions, offering efficient charge transports at interfaces. The resulting FGDSC thus produced a high power conversion efficiency of 7.95%, and it is further maintained by over 90% after bending for 5000 cycles. These FGDSCs can be integrated with fiber batteries as a self‐charging power system, demonstrating an effective power solution for wearables. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Identifying distributed strain sensing (DSS) patterns (or signatures), particularly those arising from different hydraulic fracture geometries, has gained significant attention and research effort. Recent works have generated a catalogue of signatures for planar hydraulic fractures in an elastic rock formation. Yet, in numerous cases (e.g., fault motion and some geothermal reservoir stimulation), the main mode of deformation is a shear on a fracture or a network of natural fractures (particularly during low pressure injection/circulation). However, the specific fiber signatures that result from such shear deformation have not been studied. In this study, we use a three-dimensional poroelastic hydraulic fracture simulator to capture the strain signatures resulting from the shear deformation of fractures in various orientations with respect to the monitoring well. Five key cases are examined: one where the fracture strike is perpendicular to the fiber, another with the strike running parallel to the fiber, a third case where the fracture strike is at 45 degrees to the fiber, a fourth case with a strike slip fault perpendicular to the fiber, and a fifth case where fiber is intersecting the fracture. Theoretically and physically meaningful results were obtained in all five cases, which completely differ from the heart-shaped signature of tensile fracture propagation. It was discovered that the strain pattern changes with the shear deformation direction with respect to the fiber. The model is then used to simulate the response of a fracture network at Utah FORGE to injection to assess whether a signature might be expected in response to the planned injection and circulation rates, and, if so, what strain pattern might be expected. The simulation confirms that a strain response can indeed be observed. More importantly, the fiber response that would be detected in the monitoring well would be a combination of strain signatures from dilation and shear deformation of differently oriented natural fractures. The results in this study provide useful insights on the application of fiber to other stimulation and/or circulation scenarios where shear deformation of a fracture or fracture network plays a major role. The achievement and control of desired motions in active machines often involves precise manipulation of artificial muscles in a distributed and sequential manner, which poses significant challenges. A novel motion control strategy based on self-oscillation in active machines offers distinctive benefits, such as direct energy harvesting from the ambient environment and the elimination of complex controllers. Drawing inspiration from automobiles, a self-moving automobile designed for operation under steady illumination is developed, comprising two wheels and a liquid crystal elastomer fiber. To explore the dynamic behavior of this self-moving automobile under steady illumination, a nonlinear theoretical model is proposed, integrating with the established dynamic liquid crystal elastomer model. Numerical simulations are conducted using the Runge-Kutta method based on MATLAB software, and it is observed that the automobile undergoes a supercritical Hopf bifurcation, transitioning from a static state to a self-moving state. The sustained periodic self-moving is facilitated by the interplay between light energy and damping dissipation. Furthermore, the conditions under which the Hopf bifurcation occurs are analyzed in detail. It is worth noting that increasing the light intensity or decreasing rolling resistance coefficient can improve the self-moving average velocity. The innovative design of the self-moving automobile offers advantages such as not requiring an independent power source, possessing a simple structure, and being sustainable. Highlights Laminated metal‐composite structures, known as fiber metal laminates (FMLs), are modern lightweight materials extensively utilized in diverse industries such as aerospace and automotive manufacturing. These materials offer enhanced impact and fatigue resistance, making them invaluable for various applications. However, machining FMLs poses a challenge due to the occurrence of delamination and heterogenous in nature during conventional methods. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the quality characteristics such as kerf width, surface roughness and kerf taper of Magnesium based FMLs processed with an unconventional machining process namely abrasive water jet cutting (AWJC). These FMLs comprise alternately stacked kevlar/carbon fibers adhesively bonded with epoxy resin matrix filled with varying wt% of reduced graphene oxide (r‐GO), combined with AZ31B alloy sheet as the skin material. AWJC experiments were performed by varying the process parameters including waterjet pressure (275–325 MPa), stand‐off distance (2.5–3.5 mm), and cutting speed (600–800 mm/min) based on the box–behnken experimental design. The findings from the statistical analysis underscore the significant influences of stand‐off distance and waterjet pressure on kerf characteristics, while the inclusion of r‐GO is observed to notably affect the surface quality. In pursuit of enhancing cut quality, a multi‐response optimization was conducted employing the Gorilla Troops Optimization (GTO) algorithm. Comparative analysis with established metaheuristics like the gray wolf algorithm, dragonfly algorithm, and harmony search algorithm reveals GTO's superior performance across various metrics, including rapid convergence, diversity, and spacing values. Further, the cutting‐induced damages such as matrix plowing, fiber‐metal debonding and composite delamination were observed through microstructure analysis. Magnesium (AZ31B) fiber metal laminate comprising with various wt% of reduced graphene oxide was fabricated. Abrasive waterjet cutting of FMLs were performed based on box–behnken design experimental approach. Statistical analysis and influence of process parameters on the kerf width, surface roughness and kerf taper were investigated. A new approach to finite elasto-plasticity of crystalline materials, with a differential geometry point of view toward the material description, is proposed. In order to define the plastic and elastic distortions, traditionally it is accepted the existence of an intermediate configuration, which is endowed with a differential manifold structure. A more restrictive but physically and mathematically well-motivated structure is assigned to the intermediate configuration, namely, a vector bundle structure. Two approaches to multiplicative decomposition of the deformation gradient can be rebuilt if on the same total space (intermediate configuration) the vector bundle structures are considered, but either the reference configuration, B (i.e., plastic assumption) or the deformed configuration, B t (i.e., elastic assumption) stands for the base space. As the base spaces are homeomorphic, a pullback vector bundle over one base space is provided by the other one through the motion diffeomorphism. Thus, the total space is endowed with different differential manifold structures. The plastic distortion and the inverse elastic distortion, respectively, are defined for any material points as linear, invertible, and non-integrable maps from the tangent vector space at their material points, with the value on the attached vector fiber. The multiplicative decompositions into their non-integrable components are derived, based on the associate inverse elastic distortion and plastic distortion, respectively. When the plastic and elastic assumptions are simultaneously accepted, then a three-term multiplicative decomposition of the deformation gradient is achieved. The transition functions, which characterize the compatibility of the overlapping charts which belong to these different structures, namely of the vector bundle and of the pullback vector bundle over the same configuration, say B define the non-uniqueness of the two-term multiplicative decomposition. The basic principle for the treatment of idiopathic diarrhoea (functional diarrhoea K59.1) is to delay transit through the gut in order to promote the absorption of electrolytes and water. Under mild conditions, bulking agents may suffice. With increasing severity, antidiarrhoeal pharmaceuticals may be added in a stepwise manner. In diarrhoea of unknown aetiology, peripherally-acting opioid receptor agonists, such as loperamide, are first-line treatment and forms the pharmaceutical basis of antidiarrheal treatment. As second-line treatment opium drops have an approved indication for severe diarrhoea when other treatment options fail. Beyond this, various treatment options are built on experience with more advanced treatments using clonidine, octreotide, as well as GLP-1 and GLP-2 analogs which require specialist knowledge the field. Chronic diarrhoea without an established cause is common. There are a small number of clinical trials, often with a limited number of patients or healthy volunteers. Treatment is often carried out on a trial-and-error basis, with considerable variation in the choice of treatment. There is a paucity of guidelines, and there is a gap in knowledge concerning treatment goals, such as the frequency, consistency and form of stool. In this research, mantle flour and elderberry kernel were used to increase the nutritional properties and fiber of ice cream. Elderberry mantle and core were separately converted into flour, added to ice cream at levels (2, 1, and 3%) and its physicochemical properties such as: viscosity, aurran, colorimetry were investigated and the best treatment was determined during the sensory evaluation. The physicochemical results of ice cream containing elderberry flour (shell and core) showed: increasing the percentage of elderberry core and mantle caused a decrease in pH. The lowest pH value was related to the sample containing 3% kernel flour and the highest pH value was related to the control sample. The highest amount of viscosity (1327.5 centipoise) was related to the treatment of 3% elderberry mantle flour and the lowest amount was related to the control sample. The highest specific weight (1.15) was related to the treatment of 2% and 3% of elderberry mantle flour and the lowest amount was related to the control sample. Also, the highest coefficient of volume increase was observed in the control sample (38.97%) and the lowest overrun was observed in the sample containing 3% of Sanjad mantle flour. With the sensory evaluation, the treatment containing 2% elderberry kernel flour was more acceptable than other treatments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The primary aim of this research work was to develop a lightweight vinyl ester based prosthetic composite with silane treated Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) foam and areca fiber and how the silane surface treatment process influence the laminar adhesion against to accelerated aging conditions. Both the foam (3 mm) and fiber is silane‐treated via aqueous solution method and the composites were subjected to accelerate aging via temperature (40 and 50°C) as well as sea and rain water. The developed composites were evaluated based on American society of testing of materials (ASTM) standards and the results revealed a consistent stability in tensile strength for post‐silane treated composites on both aging conditions. Particularly, the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) test emphasized that the silane treated reinforcements has high resistance against delamination. Similarly, flammability test demonstrated sustained fire‐resistant properties in both horizontal and vertical orientations, with negligible variations in flame propagation speed. Thermal conductivity test revealed the intricate interplay of PET core and areca fiber on heat transfer. Thus, from results it is evident that the silane surface treatment helped to maintain the laminates adhere with matrix in spite of the accelerated aging conditions such as prolonged heat exposition as well as water immersion. These findings contribute valuable insights into the load bearing performance of the lightweight composite materials in human prosthetic applications where prolonged heat and water aging happened frequently. Textiles can be promising next‐generation wearable thermal management systems by exhibiting tunable infrared emissivity for dual‐mode control of cooling/warming, yet textiles often exhibit constant infrared emission. Herein, a dynamic thermoregulatory textile is woven from scalable‐manufactured radiative electrochromic fibers and is easily driven by a low voltage in a manner that results in a modulated emissivity of Δɛ≈0.35. Through a synergistic combination of the spiral outer electrode and electrochemically tunable carbon nanotube layer, excellent electrochemical controllability of the fibers is achieved over 100‐m length within 5s because of the decreased internal resistance with increasing length. As a result, the thermoregulatory textile suppresses substantial temperature variation and ensures excellent temperature regulation within ≈1.6 °C for simulated skin (much better than that of traditional textiles: ≈2.9 °C) under an ambient temperature fluctuation of 11.2 °C. The use of seawater and sea sand as replacements for fresh water and river sand in the preparation of seawater and sea sand concrete can effectively address issues such as high transportation costs, extended construction periods, and resource wastage. Nevertheless, in northern coastal areas, the problem of concrete durability in the complex and changing marine environment is more prominent. Research on the durability of seawater sea sand concrete is beneficial to the widening of its application range. To investigate the impact of glass fiber (GF) and polyvinyl alcohol fiber (PVA) with different blending methods on the seawater freeze–thaw resistance of seawater sea sand concrete (SSC), corresponding specimens were prepared, and seawater freeze–thaw cycling tests were conducted. By adopting the slow-freezing method and combining macro-structure and micro-morphology, the damage mechanism and the deterioration law of fiber-reinforced SSC under seawater freezing and thawing were investigated. The results indicate that, macroscopically, the incorporation of GF and PVA can effectively mitigate the damage to the matrix and reduce the effects of external erosive substances on the rate of strength loss, the rate of mass loss, and the relative dynamic elastic modulus. After 75 cycles, the SSC with a total volume doping of 0.3% and a blending ratio of 1:1 showed a 41.23% and 27.55% reduction in mass loss and strength loss, respectively, and a 29.9% improvement in relative dynamic elastic modulus compared with the basic group. Microscopic analysis reveals that the combined effect of freezing and expansion forces, the expansive substances generated by seawater intrusion into the interior of the matrix, and salt crystallization all weaken the bond between aggregate and mortar, leading to accelerated deterioration of the concrete. The incorporation of fibers enables the matrix to become denser and improves its crack-resistant properties, resulting in a better durability than that of the basic group. The damage prediction model established by the NSGM(1,N) model of gray system theory exhibits high accuracy and is suitable for long-term prediction, accurately predicting the damage of seawater sea sand concrete under seawater freeze–thaw coupling. Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL , Hermetia illucens (L.)) are recognized for efficient biowaste reduction while yielding valuable proteins and fats for animals. However, lignocellulosic fibers in biowastes are difficult to digest by biowaste and larval digestive tract microorganisms as well as the larvae themselves. This study investigated two biowaste physical pretreatments (thermal, mechanical) for improving BSFL processing of fibrous biowastes. Cow manure, spent grain, and grass clippings were thermally pretreated at 90 °C for three durations (0.5, 1 and 4 h). Contrary to expectations, thermal pretreatment resulted in either no improvement or decreased larval performance on all substrates, regardless of treatment duration. In contrast, mechanical pretreatment of spent grain and grass clippings, involving milling with three screen sizes (0.5, 1 and 2 mm) showed promising results. Specifically, bioconversion rates on 0.5 mm-milled spent grain and grass clippings increased by 0–53 % and 25–44 % dry mass, respectively compared to untreated. Additionally, larval protein conversion increased by 41 % and 23 % on spent grain and grass clippings, respectively. However, mechanical pretreatment did not affect fiber degradation by larval conversion, as hemicellulose decreased by 25 % and 75 % for spent grain and grass clippings, respectively, regardless of particle size. Particle size reduction influenced substrate microbial respiration (CO 2 mg/min), with 0.5-mm milled grass clippings exhibiting higher respiration compared to untreated, although this effect was not observed for spent grain. In this investigation, characterization and comparison of the flame retardant performance were conducted for polylactic acid (PLA)/fiber composites featuring the incorporation of different flame retardants (APP, PAPP, and DMH). Based on the results obtained from the Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) test and cone calorimeter test, it is evident that the intumescent flame retardants (IFR) such as APP and PAPP exhibit better efficacy on improving flame retardancy than DMH. The LOI value of the APP/PLA/F and PAPP/PLA/F composite reaches 35.5% and 27.4%, higher than that of DMH/PLA/F (23.0%). The pk‐HRR of APP/PLA/F and PAPP/PLA/F decreases 27% and 39% compared with PLA/F while the char residue at 500°C was higher than that of DMH/PLA/F (0.3 wt%) with the value of 51.4 and 44.1 wt%. It should be mentioned that the impact strength and tensile strength of PLA/fiber composite incorporating APP surpasses that of PAPP/PLA/F, which is caused by good dispersibility of fabrics among the PLA matrix, coupled with the strengthened interfacial adhesion between the fibers and the polylactic acid matrix. In summary, APP/PLA/F shows the most overall performance. A biodegradable polymer, the poly(butylene adipate co‐terephthalate) (PBAT), was compounded with the microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) obtained from different sources (such as wheat stalk and rice husk powder) to prepare the polymer composites. The two components, here found to be compatible, as evidenced by the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Further assessment of the compounded fibers with the organic solvent, the toluene, illustrated the nature of the wetting phenomena of MCC by PBAT. The SEM observation showed the wrapping of the PBAT layer onto the MCC phase after the removal of the polymer matrix. The FTIR spectrum showed the presence of the PBAT carbonyl peak on extracted fibers from the composite via solvent removal. It could be concluded that the PBAT could wet the MCC effectively in the composites suggesting the potential of enhancing their properties. BACKGROUND: With computer-aided design, melt electrowriting technology can precisely construct 3D tissue engineering scaffolds with specific morphology, which has attracted increasing attention in tissue engineering. OBJECTIVE: To elaborate on the progress of melt electrowriting technology in tissue engineering in recent years. METHODS: PubMed and CNKI were used to retrieve articles about applications of melt electrowriting technology in tissue engineering. The search time was from March 2008 to February 2023. The search terms were “melt electrowriting, melt electrospinning, electrospinning, tissue engineering, scaffold, regeneration” in English and “melt electrowriting, electrospinning, tissue engineering” in Chinese. A preliminary screening of articles was performed by reading the titles and abstracts. Finally, 69 articles were included for review. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) Melt electrowriting technology can achieve precise layer-by-layer deposition of fibers compared to traditional electrospinning technology, which better simulates the complex structure of natural tissues. Compared to other 3D printing technologies, smaller-diameter fibers can be prepared by melt electrowriting technology, resulting in highly ordered porous structures. (2) By combining with other scaffold preparation techniques or materials, such as fused deposition modeling, solution electrospinning technology, and hydrogel, melt electrowriting technology shows great potential in preparing complex tissue engineering scaffolds, which provides certain possibilities for achieving complex tissue regeneration. (3) The regeneration of complex tissues often involves blood vessels, nerves, and soft and hard tissues at the same time. The regeneration of blood vessels and nerves is of great significance to realize the physiological reconstruction of tissues. However, soft and hard tissues have certain difficulties to realize the coordinated regeneration of both due to their different biological and mechanical properties. Background: Consumption of dietary fiber has been suggested as an important aspect of a healthy diet to reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS), including cardiovascular disease. The role of fiber intake in MetS might differ by individual genetic susceptibility. APOA5 encodes a regulator of plasma triglyceride levels, which impacts the related mechanisms of MetS. This study investigated the association between dietary fiber and the risk of MetS, assessing their associations according to APOA5 genetic variants. Methods: A total of 1985 participants aged 30–55 years were included from a cross-sectional study based on the Korean Medicine Daejeon Citizen Cohort study at baseline (2017–2019). Dietary fiber intake was measured using a semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire. The APOA5 polymorphisms (rs2266788 A > G, rs662799 A > G, and rs651821 T > C) were genotyped using the Asia Precision Medicine Research Array. Logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). Results: A higher consumption of dietary fiber was associated with a lower prevalence of MetS (P = 0.025). Among the components of MetS, an inverse association with dietary fiber was observed in increased waist circumference (OR, 95% CI = 0.60, 0.41–0.88, P for trend = 0.009) and elevated triglycerides (OR, 95% CI = 0.69, 0.50–0.96, P for trend = 0.012). Regarding the interaction with APOA5 genetic variants, a stronger association with dietary fiber intake was shown in G allele carriers of rs662799 than in A/A carriers (OR, 95% CI = 2.34, 1.59–3.44, P for interaction = 0.024) and in C allele carriers of rs651821 than in T/T carriers (OR, 95% CI = 2.35, 1.59–3.46, P for interaction = 0.027). Conclusions: The findings of this study suggest that the benefits of dietary fiber on the risk of MetS could be modified by genetic variants of the APOA5 gene, providing a more effective strategy for preventing MetS. Metal‐backboned polymers (MBPs), with a unique backbone consisting of bonded metal atoms, are promising for optic, electric, magnetic, and thermoelectric fields. However, the application of MBP remains relatively understudied. Here, we develop a shear‐induced orientation method to construct a flexible nickel‐backboned polymer/carbon nanotube (NBP/CNT) thermoelectric composite fiber. It demonstrated a power factor of 719.48 μW ⋅m−1 K−2, which is ca. 3.5 times as high as the bare CNT fiber. Remarkably, with the regulation of carrier mobility and carrier concentration of NBP, the composite fiber further showed simultaneous increases in electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient in comparison to the bare CNT fiber. The NBP/CNT fiber can be integrated into fabrics to harvest thermal energy of human body to generate an output voltage of 3.09 mV at a temperature difference of 8 K. Effective online monitoring of the spatial distribution of high‐energy radiation is of significant importance in various fields such as medical imaging, high‐energy physics, and homeland security. However, achieving radiation detectors with both high sensitivity and minimal disturbance is an enormous challenge. The present study introduces a solution to this bottleneck issue through the development of a full‐inorganic scintillating fiber, successfully demonstrating its application in constructing a radiation monitoring device. The scintillating fiber, activated with Ce3+ and fabricated using the melt‐in‐tube approach, is lightweight with a density of 2.5 g cm−3 and exhibits efficient scintillating emission with a light yield of 4000 photons MeV−1. These characteristics enable the achievement of radiation detection with high sensitivity while keeping disturbance to the incident radiation beam at a minimum. Furthermore, 2D and 3D radiation beam monitors are constructed based on these scintillating fibers, facilitating spatial radiation monitoring. The findings demonstrate that full‐inorganic scintillating fibers and devices offer a synergistic combination of high sensitivity and negligible disturbances. This progress not only introduces a novel full‐inorganic fiber for radiation detection but also suggests promising applications in various nuclear fields where 3D radiation beam tracking is essential. Highlights Boron nitride (BN) has garnered significant attention for its potential in developing thermally conductive materials owing to its inherent insulating properties and high thermal conductivity. However, achieving high thermal conductivity in bulk materials or 3D structures constructed by BN sheets has remained challenging. In this study, we present a novel approach to design a high‐quality BN fiber using xanthan gum (XG) as a skeleton, aiming to facilitate heat dissipation in integrated circuits. The resulting thermally conductive film, with orderly and compactly arranged BN sheets in the XG skeleton, exhibits a remarkable in‐plane thermal conductivity of 8.26 Wm−1 K−1 and an out‐of‐plane thermal conductivity of 1.35 Wm−1 K−1. This film efficiently enables fast heat dissipation for LED chips and thermoelectric generators. Finite element simulation further supports the efficient heat transfer capacity of the BN fiber films. A high‐quality BN fiber was prepared by a facile approach. The BN fiber film exhibited high thermal conductivity. This film enables fast heat dissipation in practical applications. The variable domain of a heavy-chain antibody (VHH) has the potential to be used to redirect the cell tropism of adenoviral vectors. Here, we attempted to establish platforms to simplify the screening of VHHs for their specific targeting function when being incorporated into the fiber of adenovirus. Both fowl adenovirus 4 (FAdV-4) and simian adenovirus 1 (SAdV-1) have two types of fiber, one of which is dispensable for virus propagation and is a proper site for VHH display. An intermediate plasmid, pMD-FAV4Fs, was constructed as the start plasmid for FAdV-4 fiber2 modification. Foldon from phage T4 fibritin, a trigger for trimerization, was employed to bridge the tail/shaft domain of fiber2 and VHHs against human CD16A, a key membrane marker of natural killer (NK) cells. Through one step of restriction-assembly, the modified fiber2 was transferred to the adenoviral plasmid, which was linearized and transfected to packaging cells. Five FAdV-4 viruses carrying the GFP gene were finally rescued and amplified, with three VHHs being displayed. One recombinant virus, FAdV4FC21-EG, could hardly transduce human 293 or Jurkat cells. In contrast, when it was used at a multiplicity of infection of 1000 viral particles per cell, the transduction efficiency reached 51% or 34% for 293 or Jurkat cells expressing exogenous CD16A. Such a strategy of fiber modification was transplanted to the SAdV-1 vector to construct SAdV1FC28H-EG, which moderately transduced primary human NK cells while the parental virus transduced none. Inverse associations between dietary fiber (DF) and colorectal cancer risk are well-established. However, evidence is limited in relation to other cancer sites. This study, of 364,856 participants from the UK Biobank, aimed to evaluate the associations between total and source-specific partial DF and risk of 17 specific cancers and all cancers combined. Partial DF was derived from baseline touchscreen questionnaire data on cereal, bread, fruit, and vegetable intake. The outcomes were incident cancer at 17 sites and all cancers combined. Cox proportional hazards models were applied. Over a median 8.8-year follow-up period, 30,725 people were diagnosed with cancer. After adjusting for sociodemographic and lifestyle factors, those in the highest quintile of partial DF compared with the lowest quintile (<9.6 vs ≥19.1 g/day) had 10% lower risk of cancer overall, with the greatest risk reductions observed for cervical (hazard ratio (HR) = 0.33, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.14; 0.82), esophageal (HR = 0.66, 95% CI: 0.52; 0.84), lung (HR = 0.67, 95% CI: 0.59; 0.76), bladder (HR = 0.72, 95% CI: 0.56; 0.91), and kidney (HR = 0.75, 95% CI: 0.61; 0.92) cancers. Associations between DF and lung cancer were observed only in current and former smokers. Bamboo cellulose fiber (BF)-reinforced epoxy (EP) composites were fabricated with BF subjected to plasma treatment using argon (Ar), oxygen (O2), and nitrogen (N2) gases. Optimal mechanical properties of the EP/BF composites were achieved with BFs subjected to 30 min of plasma treatment using Ar. This is because Ar gas improved the plasma electron density, surface polarity, and BF roughness. Flexural strength and flexural modulus increased with O2 plasma treatment. Scanning electron microscopy images showed that the etching of the fiber surface with Ar gas improved interfacial adhesion. The water contact angle and surface tension of the EP/BF composite improved after 10 min of Ar treatment, owing to the compatibility between the BFs and the EP matrix. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results confirmed a reduction in lignin after treatment and the formation of new peaks at 1736 cm−1, which indicated a reaction between epoxy groups of the EP and carbon in the BF backbone. As a traditional staple food, bread lacks several nutrients such as fiber and minerals. In this study, the possibilities of using rhubarb powder to enrich wheat bread were investigated. Rhubarb powder was replaced with wheat flour at the ratios of 0%, 4%, 8%, and 12%. In order to reveal effects of rhubarb powder on quality properties of bread, color, moisture, total protein, fat content, antioxidant activity, textural, and sensory analysis were conducted. As the rhubarb powder ratio increased, the fiber (10.60 ± 0.55), ash (4.34 ± 0.13), and fat content (2.17 ± 0.55) of bread samples increased significantly (p < 0.05). Antioxidant activity (19.61% ± 0.53%) and total phenolic contents (916.38 ± 2.69) of bread samples also increased significantly (p < 0.05). The colors of the enriched breads were relatively dark. The breads containing 12% rhubarb powder had the highest ash content (4.34 ± 0.13). The samples containing 4% rhubarb powder took the highest sensory scores from the sensory panel in terms of odor, flavor, and overall impression. However, as the ratio of rhubarb powder increased, the sensory values of bread samples decreased. According to the results of this study, rhubarb powder could be used up to 4% to produce acceptable breads in terms of sensory properties with improved nutritional quality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of aging and fiber‐reinforcement on the color stability, translucency, and microhardness of single‐shade resin composites versus multi‐shade resin composite. Materials and Methods: Four resin composites (Filtek Z250, Omnichroma, Vittra APS Unique, Zenchroma) were tested. Three subgroups of specimens were prepared for each of the composites: control, polyethylene fiber‐reinforcement, and glass fiber‐reinforcement‐ groups (n = 10/per group). The samples were subjected to aging for 10,000 thermal cycles. Color differences (ΔE00) were calculated after aging. Relative translucency parameter (RTP00) and microhardness values were calculated before and after aging. A two‐way analysis of variance and the generalized linear model was used (p < 0.05). Results: The lowest and highest ΔE00 values were found for Filtek Z250 (0.6 ± 0.2) and Omnichroma resin composites (1.6 ± 0.4), respectively. The ΔE00 value of the polyethylene fiber‐reinforcement group (1.2 ± 0.6) was significantly higher than the ΔE00 value of the glass fiber‐reinforcement group (1.0 ± 0.4, p < 0.001). The RTP00 value of the glass fiber‐reinforcement group (1.92 ± 0.78) was significantly higher than the RTP00 value of the polyethylene fiber‐reinforcement group (1.72 ± 0.77, p < 0.001). The highest microhardness values were found in glass fiber‐reinforcement group (76.48 ± 17.07, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Single‐shade resin composites were more translucent, had higher color change, and lower hardness than multi‐shade resin composite. For relative translucency and microhardness, statistical significance was found in the material and fiber type interaction. The glass fiber‐reinforcement provided higher translucency, lower color change and higher microhardness values than polyethylene fiber‐reinforcement group after aging. Thermocycling had a significant impact on the color stability, translucency parameter, and microhardness of the tested resin composite materials. Concrete with fiber reinforcement is stronger and more ductile than concrete without reinforcement. Significant efforts have been made to demonstrate the properties and enhancements of concrete after reinforcement with various types and shapes of fibers. However, the issue of optimization in the reinforcement process is still unanswered. There is no academic study in the literature now available that can pinpoint the ideal fiber type, quantity, and shape and, more crucially, the overall technical viability of the reinforcement. The parametric analysis in this study determines the ideal shape, size, and proportion of fibers. The input and output parameters were separated from the optimization design variables. Input parameters included assessment of samples of fresh and mechanical concrete properties and the influence of type, length, and percentage of fiber on concrete performance. The aim was to establish the most efficient relationship between fiber dose and dimension to optimize the combined responses of workability and splitting tensile, flexural, and compressive strength. The mechanical and fresh properties of concrete reinforced with four different fibers, PFRC‐1, PFRC‐2, SFRC‐1, and SFRC‐2, were tested. The analysis showed that SFRC‐2‐20 mm‐1%, with compressive, split tensile, flexural, and workability values of 44.7 MPa, 3.64 MPa, 5.3 MPa, and 6.5 cm respectively, was the most effective combination among the materials investigated. A light beam carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) is characterized by a helical phase‐front that winds around the center of the beam. These beams have unique properties that have found numerous applications. In the field of data transmission, they represent a degree of freedom that could potentially increase capacity. While an efficient method for (de)composing beams based on their OAM exists for free‐space optics, a device capable of performing this (de)composition in an integrated, compact fiber application without the use of external active optical elements and for multiple OAM modes and multiple wavelengths simultaneously has not been reported. In this study, two mechanisms are combined in a waveguide structure to demonstrate as a proof of principle that this can serve as a broadband fiber OAM (de)multiplexer. The structure design is based on the adiabatic principle used in photonic lanterns for highly efficient conversion of spatially separated single modes into eigenmodes of a few‐mode fiber. In addition, an artificial magnetic field is introduced by twisting the structure, which removes the degeneracy between modes having the same absolute OAM. It was understood that various studies were carried out on the strength, permeability, durability, increasing the thermal performance of lightweight concrete facade panels, and sustainable and energy‐efficient concepts. It was observed that fiber was added to the mixture to improve the properties in question. However, it was determined that contradictory results were obtained due to the large number of active parameters and whether the fiber was distributed homogeneously in the matrix. In this study, the effects of fiber type, length and usage rate on the strength, energy absorption capacity, elasticity modulus, water absorption, and thermal performance of lightweight concrete mixtures were investigated. For this purpose, three different types of fibers of different lengths: polypropylene (3, 6, and 12 mm), glass (13 and 25 mm) and polyamide (6 and 12 mm) were used at 0%, 0.25%, 0.50%, and 0.75% of the total volume. It was determined that the mixture containing 0.25% polypropylene fiber with a length of 3 mm exhibited the best performance in terms of both mechanical and thermal properties. In terms of these features, it was understood that the mixtures with 12 mm polypropylene with a usage rate of 0.75% and 6 mm polyamide fibers with a usage rate of 0.50% had the weakest performance. Determining the mechanical properties of a composite material represents an important stage in its design and is generally a complicated operation. These values are influenced by the topology and geometry of the resulting composite and the values of the elastic constants of the components. Due to the importance of this subject and the increasing use of composite materials, different calculation methods have been developed over the last fifty years. In the current paper, using theoretical results offered by the homogenization theory, values of engineering elastic constants are obtained. The finite element method (FEM) is used to determine the stress and strain field required in these calculations; this is an extremely powerful and verified calculation tool for the case of a material with any type of structure and geometry. In order to minimize errors, the paper proposes the method of least squares, a mathematical method that provides the best estimate for the set of values obtained by calculating FEM. It is useful to consider as many load cases as possible to obtain the best estimates. Water damage is one of the major distresses of asphalt pavements. Existing methods for investigating the water stability of asphalt mixtures rely primarily on static water test methods, the tensile strength ratio (TSR) test, and the retained Marshall stability (RMS) test, which evaluate the strength and stability loss after freeze-thaw damage or hot water immersion, respectively. However, these methods do not accurately replicate the actual dynamic water damage conditions to pavement. Therefore, in this study, a variety of damage conditions, including static water conditions and dynamic water pressure conditions, were used to investigate the effects of lignin fibers (LFs), polyester fibers (PFs), and polypropylene fibers (PPFs) on the water stability of asphalt mixtures. First, three fibers-enhanced SMA gap-gradation asphalt mixtures were designed. Then, TSR and RMS were measured under traditional static water damage conditions and new dynamic water pressure damage conditions to evaluate the effect of fiber types on the water stability of asphalt mixtures. Finally, the void rate of asphalt mixtures and its changes under dynamic water damage conditions were further revealed with the help of CT scanning technique. Results showed that, among these three types of fibers, PFs-enhanced asphalt mixture exhibited excellent stability under both static and dynamic water conditions, and the CT scanning test also indicated that the PFs can significantly reduce the increase rate of voids in asphalt mixtures after dynamic water pressure damage. Given the ever‐increasing demand for transmission capacity in optical fiber communication systems, there is a growing focus on developing active fibers and devices with an optical response across a wider spectrum. Bismuth (Bi)‐doped photonic glasses have attracted significant interest for their exceptional ultra‐broadband optical response, particularly within telecommunication bands. However, developing advanced Bi‐activated materials with robust optical response, high compatibility with commercial transmission systems, and low processing temperature remains a huge challenge. Herein, an anion hybridization strategy is proposed to overcome the aforementioned limitations. The anion hybridization significantly enhances the broadband optical response (≈10 times) of the Bi center following the introduction of fluorine ions, and reduces the transition temperature of the photonic glass (≈200 °C). Moreover, the near‐infrared optical response bandwidth experiences significant broadening, a result attributed to the larger inhomogeneous broadening. Furthermore, successful fabrication of the anion‐hybridized Bi‐activated glass fiber is achieved, demonstrating excellent compatibility with commercial transmission fibers. Additionally, the fabricated fiber exhibits an amplified spontaneous emission and on‐off gain across a broad waveband, further validating its efficacy. These results indicate that anion hybridization offers an effective strategy to optimize the optical and thermal properties of photonic materials to develop novel advanced photonic devices. In this research, a novel 3D printed core and natural fiber polyester composite skin based thick sandwich panel was developed as structural material for domestic and commercial infrastructure applications. The main objective of this research was to analyze how the carbon quantum dots (C-dots) from agriculture waste strengthen the softer thermoplastic acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) core and overall sandwich panel's load bearing properties. The core of sandwich was prepared using additive manufacturing method whereas the skin was developed by hand layup method. According to the results the C-dots of 20 phr into the ABS improved the compression properties of core in both flatwise and edgewise directions. A highest tensile and flexural strength of skin was observed to be 114 and 146 MPa respectively. The addition of C-dots improved the load bearing effect and also restricts the deformation against load. This performance improved novel 3D printed core and bamboo fiber skin sandwich could be used as an alternative construction and building material where the commercial plywood and other forms of powder wood face damages via weather and termite issues. Highlights In the past decade, polymer‐based glass fiber‐reinforced laminate composites have gained significant popularity in various mass transit applications, including marine, aircraft, and automotive industries. However, it is crucial to consider the degradation and potential failure of these materials, especially in mass transit networks. To address this concern, fractographic analysis has emerged as a valuable approach for investigating fracture surfaces, extracting vital information, and facilitating the development of new materials. Microplastic (MP) study in the Philippines is gaining attention because of the recent trends in macro-microplastic study worldwide and there is already a call for research to help the degrading marine environment in the country. No study in Malita, Davao Occidental was conducted to document microplastic contamination. To address this gap, 30 goat fishes collected in 6 sampling stations were dissected and microplastic were extracted, counted, and characterized. Results revealed that 96.67% of samples were contaminated with microplastic. In terms of microplastic type, fiber was most dominant than fragments, in microplastic hue, color black was the most common and microplastic with size ranging from 50 to 500µm were usually observed. Comparable amount of microplastic was obtained in fish guts across stations (P>0.05) which means that fish ingestion of microplastic were evident in the area. Based on Correlation, the length (r²=0.13), wet weight (r²=0.17) and gut wet weight (r²=0.29) of the fish does not tell the amount of microplastic ingested by each yellow stripped goat fish since there is a weak relationship between the two parameters. The result suggests, Malita's seawater is already polluted with microplastic and demersal fishes that practice high site fidelity were very susceptible to microplastic ingestion. A stronger solid waste management policy must be implemented and activities such coastal clean ups and information drives must be initiated by all stakeholders. Further, microplastic investigation in seawater and sediments must be conducted to have a more detailed study of the whole extent of microplastic contamination in Malita, Davao Occidental. A current challenge of genetic breeding programs is to increase grain yield and protein content and at least maintain oil content. However, evaluations of industrial traits are time and cost-consuming. Thus, achieving accurate models for classifying genotypes with better industrial technological performance based on easier and faster to measure traits, such as agronomic ones, is of paramount importance for soybean breeding programs. The objective was to classify groups of soybean genotypes to industrial technological variables based on agronomic traits measured in the field using machine learning (ML) techniques. Field experiments were carried out in two sites in a randomized block design with two replications and 206 F2 soybean populations. Agronomic traits evaluated were: days to maturation (DM), first pod height (FPH), plant height (PH), number of branches (NB), main stem diameter (SD), mass of one hundred grains (MHG), and grain yield (GY). Industrial technological variables evaluated were oil yield, crude protein, crude fiber, and ash contents, determined by high-optical accuracy near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). The models tested were: support vector machine (SVM), artificial neural network (ANN), decision tree models J48 and REPTree, random forest (RF), and logistic regression (LR, used as control). A genotype clustering was performed using PCA and k-means algorithm, and then the clusters formed were used as output variables of the ML models, while the agronomic traits were used as input variables. ML techniques provided accurate models to classify soybean genotypes for more complex variables (industrial technological) based on agronomic traits. The durability of concrete is critical for the service life of concrete structures, and it is influenced by various factors. This paper investigates the impact of the relative humidity (RH) of the curing environment on the durability of five different concrete types. The aim is to determine a suitable approach for designing concrete that is well-suited for use in the salt lake region of Inner Mongolia. The concrete types comprise ordinary Portland cement (OPC), high-strength expansive concrete (HSEC), high-strength expansive concrete incorporating silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag (HSEC-SFB), steel fiber-reinforced high-strength expansive concrete (SFRHSEC), and high elastic modulus polyethylene fiber-reinforced high-strength expansive concrete (HFRHSEC). All these concrete types underwent a 180-day curing process at three distinct relative humidities (RH = 30%, 50%, and 95%) before being subjected to freeze–thaw cycles in the Inner Mongolia salt lake brine. The curing environment with a 95% RH is referred to as the standard condition. The experimental results reveal that the durability of OPC and HSEC decreases significantly with increasing relative humidity. In comparison with the control sample cured in 95% RH, the maximum freeze–thaw cycles for concrete cured in lower RHs are only 31% to 76% for OPC and 66% to 77% for HSEC. However, the sensitivity of the durability of HSEC-SFB, SFRHSEC, and HFRHSEC to variations in RH in the curing environment diminishes. In comparison with the corresponding reference value, the maximum freeze–thaw cycles for samples cured in dry conditions increase by 14% to 17% for HSEC-SFB and 21% for SFRHSEC. Specifically, the service life of HFRHSEC cured in a low RH is 25% to 46% higher than the reference value. Bee pollen is a well-balanced food and food supplement whose nutritional and bioactive properties vary according to its botanical origin. This comparative study examined some nutritional and biochemical properties of the various types of bee pollen samples collected from Anatolian region. Eleven samples were examined based on melissopalynological analyses, including five unifloral types (chestnut, rhododendron, buckwheat, ivy, and rose), and six different multifloral samples. Crude protein, edible fiber, sugar (fructose, glucose, sucrose, maltose), and essential elements (Na, K. Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu, Zn, and Mn) were evaluated for chemical characterization. Twenty-five phenolic components were analyzed using reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC–PDA). Total phenolic compounds, total flavonoids, ferric reducing antioxidant capacity (FRAP) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging activity were measured as antioxidant determinants. The results were subjected to statistical analysis, and principal component analysis (PCA) was applied to determine differences between pollen samples. Chrysin, t-cinnamic acid, and pinocembrin were identified as common components in all samples, but in varying amounts. Bee pollens' nutrients and phenolic compositions, thus, varied according to their botanical properties, although chestnut pollen exhibited the greatest antioxidant capacity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The composition and properties of the interface are the key points which determine the properties of fiber-reinforced cement–based composites. The bonding performance between fibers and different hydration products at the interface is the basis for the understanding of the interface transition zone. In this paper, the influence of different hydration products on interfacial bonding performance was investigated using the molecular dynamics method. The three models were established to study the difference in the static structure of the interface between different hydration products and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers, and then the influence of different hydration products on the interfacial adhesion properties was analyzed using fiber pull-out simulation. The results showed that the interfacial adhesion properties between PVA fiber and calcium silicate hydrate (PVA–CSH) was the best. The PVA–CSH interface is connected mainly by Ca-O bonds and H bonds, and the stability of the chemical bonds is very high. The strong interface interaction gives the CSH–PVA interface good adhesion performance, so it is necessary to overcome a large interfacial adhesion force when the fiber is pulled out. The PVA–AFt (ettringite) interface also is connected by Ca-O bonds and H-bonds. However, the stability and coordination number of the chemical bond are lower than those of the CSH–PVA interface. There are only a few weak H-bonds at the PVA–calcium hydroxide (CH) interface, which resulted in the worst interfacial adhesion performance; the force required to pull fibers out of the matrix was very small.
