Food represents one of the most discussed topics on social networks, arriving at giving voice to real virtual communities, vertically specific or transversally generic, with reference to peculiar food behaviors and / or food preferences. This study aims to understand if and how social networks can contribute to bringing out subcultures, food subcultures in this specific case, from underground situations to mainstream levels. The survey was carried out on Instagram, with a focus on the vegan subculture and with an emphasis on the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, analyzing Instagram posts from mid-October 2020 to mid-November 2020. The results show that the Instagram users associated with posts that can be classified as "#vegan food porn" show traits of content and sentiment in line with an emerging subculture, finding a sense of identity and affirmation in their posts and in those linked by consistent hashtags. Despite the limitations that are pointed out in the research, the study is specifically intended for enterprises in the food sector that seek to develop consumer marketing actions on social networks with a predominantly cultural and subcultural slant.

Transnational access (TNA) allows cross-border, short-term and frequently free-of-charge access to world-class research facilities, to foster collaborations and exchanges of experience. Specifically, TNA aims to encourage open science and innovation and to increase the efficient and effective use of scientific infrastructure. Within EPOS, the European Plate Observing System, the Volcano Observatories and Multi-scale Laboratories communities have offered TNA to their high-quality research facilities through national and European funding. This experience has allowed the definition, design, and testing of procedures and activities needed to provide transnational access inn the EPOS context. In this paper, the EPOS community describes the main objectives for the provision of transnational access in the EPOS framework, based on previous experiences. It includes practical procedures for managing transnational access from a legal, governance, and financial perspective, and proposes logistical and technical solutions to effectively execute transnational access activities. In addition, it provides an outlook on the inclusion of new thematic communities within the TNA framework, and addresses the challenges of providing market-driven access to industry.

The Geo-INQUIRE (Geosphere INfrastructure for QUestions into Integrated REsearch) project, supported by the Horizon Europe Programme, is aimed at enhancing services to allow data, products and software to be accessible to the Geoscience scientific community. In the framework of Geo-INQUIRE, Transnational Access (TA, both remote and physical) will be provided at six test beds across Europe:the BedrettoLab, Switzerland; the Ella-Link Geolab, Portugal; the Liguria-Nice-Monaco submarine infrastructure, Italy/France; the Irpinia Near-Fault Observatory, Italy; the Eastern Sicily facility, Italy; and the Corinth Rift Laboratory, Greece. These test beds are state-of-the-art research infrastructures, covering the Earth’s surface, subsurface, and marine environments over different spatial scales, from small-scale experiments in laboratories to kilometric submarine fibre cable. TA will be also offered for software and workflows belonging to the EPOS-ERIC and the ChEESE Centre of Excellence for Exascale in Solid Earth. TA are grounded on simulation of seismic waves, tsunamis and landslides. Geo-INQUIRE will grant TA to researchers to develop their own experiments with the aim of advancing scientific knowledge of Earth processes while fostering cross-disciplinary research across Europe. To be granted, researchers submit a proposal to the yearly TA calls that will be issued three times during the project life. Calls will be advertised at the Geo-INQUIRE web page https://www.geo-inquire.eu/ and through the existing community channels. Nowadays, Tsunami Early Warning Systems (TEWS) issue the first alert between three and five minutes after the occurrence of a potentially tsunamigenic earthquake. For offshore earthquakes, for which a significant network azimuthal gap limits the accuracy of standard techniques for source location, this time is spent to obtain stable estimations of the event magnitude and depth. This large warning time affects the efficiency of TEWS for near-coastal large earthquakes. Recent developments in Earthquake Early Warning Systems (EEWS) mitigates this issue. Here, we consider a P-wave, shaking-forecast based EEW method (Zollo et al., 2023) to provide fast and accurate estimations of event location and magnitude along with the Potential Damage Zone (PDZ). As a first test of a combined E- and T- EWS, we applied the method by playing-back the simulated records of two events of Mw 6 and 7 in the Messina strait, with source characteristics that mimic the 1908 Messina earthquake. The events are simulated at the INGV and RAN seismic stations along the Sicily and Calabria coasts. We estimated stable and accurate hypocenter locations and magnitude determinations in 20-25 seconds for both events. The shape of the PDZ obtained after 30 s from the earthquake origin well reproduces the geometry of the rupture surface. These first results show that combining EEWS and TEWS can speed up the tsunami forecasting, thus increasing the lead-time available for actions to protect the exposed population., The 28th IUGG General Assembly (IUGG2023) (Berlin 2023)

Despite a recent sharp decline in per-capita net wealth, according to the national balance sheets of the most advanced economies, Italian private households present higher rate among the wealthiest and least indebted in Europe (Acciari and Morelli, 2021). Italian personal precautionary saving bent represents a cultural trait of individual financial behaviour at a national level (Fuchs‐Schündeln et al., 2020). Nevertheless, recent demographic changes (i.e., households with multiple earners, increase in longevity, decline in fertility and so on) had a deep effect on household saving and its dynamic over time. Recently, the COVID-19 outbreak gave a new jump to the households’ savings worldwide, especially in the advanced economies (Romei, 2021) and also in Italy (Ercolani et al., 2021). This circumstance might depend on the unstable economic situation that leads consumers to adopt a more precautionary behaviour, which evolve in a high saving rate (Statista, 2021). Therefore, the research on this topic is crucial to predict future behaviours and finds a new, very relevant fellow in the support provided by digital transformation (Reis et al., 2018). On this stream, this study underlines as by virtue of advanced analytics tools, household saving behaviours information and big data analytics may support data-driven decision approaches addressed the managing of complex relationships in the financial arena. More punctually, by means of an exploratory and predictive analysis based on big data analytics and the use of machine learning, the aim of this study is to provide an extensive customer profiling in the household saving sector in Italy, supporting a data-driven decision-making approach.

Tsunamis constitute a significant hazard for European coastal populations, and the impact of tsunami events worldwide can extend well beyond the coastal regions directly affected. Understanding the complex mechanisms of tsunami generation, propagation, and inundation, as well as managing the tsunami risk, requires multidisciplinary research and infrastructures that cross national boundaries. Recent decades have seen both great advances in tsunami science and consolidation of the European tsunami research community. A recurring theme has been the need for a sustainable platform for coordinated tsunami community activities and a hub for tsunami services. Following about three years of preparation, in July 2021, the European tsunami community attained the status of Candidate Thematic Core Service (cTCS) within the European Plate Observing System (EPOS) Research Infrastructure. Within a transition period of three years, the Tsunami candidate TCS is anticipated to develop into a fully operational EPOS TCS. We here outline the path taken to reach this point, and the envisaged form of the future EPOS TCS Tsunami. Our cTCS is planned to be organised within four thematic pillars: (1) Support to Tsunami Service Providers, (2) Tsunami Data, (3) Numerical Models, and (4) Hazard and Risk Products. We outline how identified needs in tsunami science and tsunami risk mitigation will be addressed within this structure and how participation within EPOS will become an integration point for community development.

Near-fault observations can provide insights into the physical process interaction between fault slip activation, fluid presence/migration and seismicity production, processes acting at different timescales that generate large earthquakes.The DETECT experiment aims at exploiting very dense seismic networks deployed across a segmented faults system to foster the development of scientific integrated methodologies for monitoring and imaging the faults behavior during the inter-seismic phase. Target of the monitoring is to: detect and track space-time trends of different source parameters that could be related to a preparation process leading to a larger earthquake; investigate the frictional and stress states of the fault segments to anticipate the characteristics of the future large earthquake (e.g., hypocenter but also future large seismic energy release locations); analyze the interactions between the different fault segments to model/anticipate potential cascade effects.The DETECT experiment is carried out in the Irpinia area (southern Italy), one of the regions in Italy and Europe showing the highest seismic hazard. Since august 2021, a constellation of 20 seismic arrays, for a total of 200 seismic stations (20 broad-band sensors and 180 short-periods), has been installed over the fault segments responsible for the Ms 6.9, 1980 Irpinia earthquake, the strongest and most destructive seismic event of the last half-century in southern Italy.DETECT results from a joint effort of local Universities, National and International Research Institutes. A novel and crucial aspect is that, differently from most studies concerning intra-plate earthquakes which are usually carried out after that large magnitude earthquakes have occurred, DETECT aims to put us in advantageous position and to unveil the preparatory process that generate large earthquakes and anticipate the role of the segmentation by studying at one time different fault segments, some of which are in rather late stage of their seismic cycle.With this contribution, we aim to present the DETECT experiment, the preliminary results and foster additional cooperation including complementary expertise to further enrich the partnership.

Portable instrumentation is largely used in archaeometry for in-field measurements at museums and archaeological sites. The historic evolution of pigments is closely related to the technology developments in past cultures and provides relevant clues regarding their knowledge advancement. Here, a systematic study of 26 historical powdered pigments was carried out through a combined handheld instrumentation for X-ray Fluorescence. Chemical identification was carried out through a set of instrumentation produced by different manufacturers. Their performances are compared on the same set of samples to identify best practices for the study of historical pigments. A database of organic and inorganic pigments studied by additional techniques such as Fiber optics Reflectance spectra (FORS), Raman and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) is under development with the aim to use it further for the interpretation of the results of real case studies.
