Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) is a rare disease with a variable clinical presentation and often late diagnosis. Doppler ultrasonography (DUS) permits to determine the site of the obstructed venous tracts, the thrombotic or non-thrombotic nature of the obstruction with its morphologic features and the flow-pattern alterations. Other non-specific findings, which are seen in most of the other liver diseases, include ascites, hepatosplenomegaly and caudate hypertrophy. The aim of this study is to show our experience in BCS reporting retrospectively 15 cases referred to our hepatology center between 2017 and 2021. Four selected cases depict the extreme heterogeneous behaviour of BCS and highlight the importance of DUS as a diagnostic tool when there is a clinical suspicion. In patients, mainly young, who present with ascites and abdominal pain, BCS has to be considered and DUS is the first imaging technique to be performed to rule it out.

This paper presents a novel class of preconditioners for the iterative solution of the sequence of symmetric positive-definite linear systems arising from the numerical discretization of transient parabolic and selfadjoint partial differential equations. The preconditioners are obtained by nesting appropriate projections of reduced-order models into the classical iteration of the preconditioned conjugate gradient (PCG). The main idea is to employ the reduced-order solver to project the residual associated with the conjugate gradient iterations onto the space spanned by the reduced bases. This approach is particularly appealing for transient systems where the full-model solution has to be computed at each time step. In these cases, the natural reduced space is the one generated by full-model solutions at previous time steps. When increasing the size of the projection space, the proposed methodology highly reduces the system conditioning number and the number of PCG iterations at every time step. The cost of the application of the preconditioner linearly increases with the size of the projection basis, and a trade-off must be found to effectively reduce the PCG computational cost. The quality and efficiency of the proposed approach is finally tested in the solution of groundwater flow models. (C) 2016 The Authors. Sin dal 1927 il primo acquifero artesiano del sistema multi-falda padano è stato sfruttato presso Ro Ferrarese come risorsa acquedottistica dai 15 comuni del Basso ferrarese confluiti in CADF S.p.A.. L’aumento del fabbisogno idrico e la ricerca di un’alternativa agli approvvigionamenti da Po hanno indotto CADF S.p.A a richiedere l'ampliamento dell’attuale campo pozzi di Ro mediante la realizzazione di 10 nuovi pozzi nella fascia golenale prossima a Guarda Ferrarese. Per realizzare tale progetto, l’ATO 6 ha avviato presso la Regione Emilia-Romagna la procedura di Valutazione d’Impatto Ambientale . È stato redatto uno Studio d’Impatto Ambientale (S.I.A.) finalizzato principalmente all’analisi della dinamica idrogeologica nelle condizioni di esercizio dei due campi pozzi, al fine di individuare una linea di sfruttamento sostenibile della risorsa idrica sotterranea tenendo conto dei possibili effetti indotti dagli emungimenti: l’interferenza con il campo pozzi esistente, gli effetti di subsidenza sul territorio circostante, in particolare sull'argine maestro del fiume Po, l’aumento della salinità per richiamo dagli acquiferi sottostanti, il mantenimento delle condizioni di protezione della falda. Il S.I.A ha preso poi in esame tutte le rimanenti componenti ambientali: aria, acqua, flora, fauna, paesaggio, rumore, salute. Per cercare di minimizzare l’impatto dell’opera si è proposta una serie di misure di mitigazione e di monitoraggi soprattutto sui prelievi e sulla subsidenza. La procedura di VIA, durata un anno, si è conclusa con parere favorevole di tutti gli Enti coinvolti.
