Abstract

[EN] This paper deals with a problem present in most Master in Business Administration (MBA) classrooms. This problem is the heterogeneity of students and their backgrounds. Different backgrounds pose a challenge to teachers that require the use of quantitative techniques such as optimization within an Operations Management subject. Engineers and other students with mathematical training probably get bored if the level is too low. On the contrary, Lawyers and other students without technical background usually find contents cumbersome. This paper aims to find a compromise between the heterogeneity of backgrounds and the fulfilment of learning objectives for students of Operations Management in an MBA. To this end, we propose a methodology to support the selection of teaching methods from a multiobjective perspective. The results derived from this methodology enable professors to consider their particular preferences and to integrate important decision-making principles by selecting the appropriate distance function to an ideal point that acts as a reference.

Abstract

COVID-19 disease is the manifestation of syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, which is causing a worldwide pandemic. This disease can lead to multiple and different symptoms, being lymphopenia associated with severity one of the most persistent. Natural killer cells (NK cells) are part of the innate immune system, being fighting against virus-infected cells one of their key roles. In this study, we determined the phenotype of NK cells after COVID-19 and the main characteristic of SARS-CoV-2-specific-like NK population in the blood of convalescent donors. CD57+ NKG2C+ phenotype in SARS-CoV-2 convalescent donors indicates the presence of 'memory'/activated NK cells as it has been shown for cytomegalovirus infections. Although the existence of this population is donor dependent, its expression may be crucial for the specific response against SARS-CoV-2, so that, it gives us a tool for selecting the best donors to produce off-the-shelf living drug for cell therapy to treat COVID-19 patients under the RELEASE clinical trial (NCT04578210).

Abstract

Novartis Pharma Background: Canakinumab is a human anti-interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) monoclonal antibody neutralizing IL-1 beta-mediated pathways. We sought to characterize the molecular response to canakinumab and evaluate potential markers of response using samples from two pivotal trials in systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (SJIA). Methods: Gene expression was measured in patients with febrile SJIA and in matched healthy controls by Affymetrix DNA microarrays. Transcriptional response was assessed by gene expression changes from baseline to day 3 using adapted JIA American College of Rheumatology (aACR) response criteria (50 aACR JIA). Changes in pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and IL-18 were assessed up to day 197. Results: Microarray analysis identified 984 probe sets differentially expressed (>= 2-fold difference P < 0.05) in patients versus controls. Over 50% of patients with >= 50 aACR JIA were recognizable by baseline expression values. Analysis of gene expression profiles from patients achieving = 50 aACR JIA response at day 15 identified 102 probe sets differentially expressed upon treatment (>= 2-fold difference P < 0.05) on day 3 versus baseline, including IL-1 beta, IL-1 receptors (IL1-R1 and IL1-R2), IL-1 receptor accessory protein (IL1-RAP), and IL-6. The strongest clinical response was observed in patients with higher baseline expression of dysregulated genes and a strong transcriptional response on day 3. Abstract

Naturally sourced elements represent a sustainable alternative solution for the textile finishing industry, in the context of intense use of contamined, fossil-based raw materials. This study focuses on the exploration of an alternative naturally sourced blue colorant matter solution, by validating the possibility of the employment of Spirulina platensis sourced phycocyanin in natural fabrics coloration through the pigment printing technique. The experiments involved the laboratory-scale exploratory studies of the application of this blue colorant matter on cotton and wool textile substrates, using commercial synthetic printing mother paste. The influence of five different mordants(Cream of tartar, Alum, Tartaric acid, Tanic acid and Aluminum triformate), though pre-mordanting treatment and the printing mother paste were analyzed by measuring the chromatic coordinates and calculating the color strength (K/S), together with the measurement of VIS absorbance spectrum. The color characterization revealed good compatibility of wool -phycocyanin – synthetic paste. Results on cotton were not as good as expected. They conclusions evidence reduced affinity between the fibres and the phycocyanin. In terms of color improvements, Tannic acid revealed the most promising results, for both cotton and wool experiments. The validation of the finishing process was obtained through a fair behavior in laundering fastness, showing low response when analyzed against light degrading external factors.

Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to describe the possibility of reuse of encapsulated textile dyes into the structural cavity of CDs for a new dyeing process. The dyes to be reused represent the unfixed dyes that remain in the textile waste water after the dyeing process. Three types of cyclodextrins were tested individually with each dye and the best results were tested in a tricomy using the CDs with a larger cavity, the y CDs. The complexes formed between the dyes and CDs were proved by FTIR analysis, and the fabrics were characterized by spectrophotometric and by CIELab coordinates in order to determine their differences. It has been demonstrated that direct dyes form inclusion complexes with the CDs. It can be affirmed that the cyclodextrins are capable of encapsulating a tricomy mix wastewater successfully. Regarding the dyeing process, it was observed that the colour of the dyed fabrics presents just a minor difference compared with the original dye without the involvement of the cyclodextrins technique, making it viable. Abstract

Chitosan is a polysaccharide derived from chitin; chitin is the second most abundant polysaccharide in the world, after cellulose. Several remarkable properties of chitosan offered unique opportunities to the development of biomedical and agriculture applications. In addition, chitosan allows obtaining microcapsules with diferrent functionalities according to the core material, but his characteristic allows achieving a control release of the active material. Chitosan microcapsules can be obtained by different encapsulation methods; in this case the extrusion-gelling method has been selected and two kinds of nozzles have been used. The simple nozzle produce a matrix, it can be described as a solid polymer system in which the core material is distributed more or less uniformly throughout the polymer matrix. The concentric nozzle is a standard nozzle configuration to produce core-shell capsules. This study analyses the biodregradability of chitosan microcapsules obtained by co-extrusion/gelling using a single and concentric nozzle, with the aim of defining possible applications in the field of medical textiles.So the weight loss (%) has been calculated in different times, in order to compare the weight loss (%) in each type of microcapsules. The difference in degradation time is due to the quantity of chitosan in the microcapsules. The microcapsules obtained by simple coextrusion contain a greater quantity of polymer than those obtained by concentric extrusion
