To evaluate the quality of the sexual function of women with suspected deep infiltrating endometriosis. A cross-sectional, observational and prospective study was conducted between May 2015 and August 2016, in which 67 patients with deep infiltrating endometriosis, suspected or diagnosed, were assessed for epidemiological and clinical characteristics, such as pain level through a visual analog scale (VAS), features of deep infiltrating endometriosis lesions and score on the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) before the onset of treatment. The statistical analysis was performed using the software STATA version 12.0 (StataCorp LLC, College Station, TX, USA) to compare the variables through multiple regression analysis. The average age of the patients was 39.2 years old; most patients were symptomatic (92.5%); and the predominant location of the deep infiltrating lesions was on the rectosigmoid colon (50%), closely followed by the retrocervical region (48.3%). The median overall score on the FSFI was 23.4; in 67.2% of the cases the score was ≤ 26.5 (cutoff point for sexual dysfunction). Purpose To analyze, in aged obese patients, the weight loss, comorbidity control, and safety postoperative complications of bariatric surgery by Roux-en-Y gastric bypass technique. Methods Twenty-seven patients who underwent laparoscopic weight-reducing gastroplasty with Roux-en-Y gastric bypass to treat obesity were included. All patients were ≥ 60 years old at the time of surgery. The Wilcoxon test was used for statistical analysis, and a p-value ≤0.05it was considered significant. Results Ten (90.9%) patients with dyslipidemia were cured (p < 0.001). Nine (81.8%) patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus had total improvement and 2 (18.2%) had partial improvement (p = 0.003). An asymptomatic 79-year-old woman, with incidental finding on abdominal ultrasound of a solid nodule in the tail of the pancreas. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a 12mm solid tumor. The suggested diagnosis was pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor. The pathological examination showed an intrapancreatic splenic tissue. This is a rare ectopic location of spleen tissue and it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of pancreatic solid tumors.

To outline the demographic and clinical characteristics of patients with deep intestinal endometriosis submitted to surgical treatment at a tertiary referral center with a multidisciplinary team, and correlate those characteristics with the surgical procedures performed and operative complications. A prospective cohort from February 2012 to November 2016 of 32 women with deep intestinal endometriosis operations. The variables analyzed were: age; obesity; preoperative symptoms (dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, acyclic pain, dyschezia, infertility, urinary symptoms, constipation and intestinal bleeding); previous surgery for endometriosis; Enzian classification; size of the intestinal lesion; and surgical complications. The mean age was 37.75 (±5.72) years. A total of 7 patients (22%) had a prior history of endometriosis. The mean of the largest diameter of the intestinal lesions identified intraoperatively was of 28.12 mm (±14.29 mm). In the Enzian classification, there was a predominance of lesions of the rectum and sigmoid, comprising 30 cases (94%). There were no statistically significant associations between the predictor variables and the outcome complications, even after the multiple logistic regression analysis. Regarding the size of the lesion, there was also no significant correlation with the outcome complications ( The studied sample consisted of highly symptomatic women. Variáveis analisadas: idade; obesidade; queixas pré-operatórias: dismenorreia, dispareunia, dor acíclica, disquezia, sangramento uterino anormal, infertilidade, sintomas urinários, constipação, e sangramento intestinal; cirurgia prévia para tratamento de endometriose profunda; classificação de Enzian; técnica cirúrgica aplicada; tamanho da lesão intestinal; e complicações operatórias. A média de idade foi de 37,75 (±5,72) anos. Um total de 7 (22%) pacientes tinha histórico de abordagem prévia da endometriose. A média do maior diâmetro das lesões intestinais foi de 28,12 mm (±14,29 mm). Na classificação de Enzian, houve predomínio das lesões da região de reto ou retossigmoide no compartimento posterior, num total de 30 casos (94%). Nausea and vomiting remain an important problem during radiotherapy or chemotherapy based regimens. Management of anticipatory nausea and vomiting (ANV), apparently caused by conditioning mechanisms, has seen little improvement. This conditioning model proposes that stimuli unrelated to treatment are associated by the patient with acute and delayed N&V caused by consecutive chemo cycles, eliciting, even before the next cycle, N&V. In systematic reviews prevalence rates go as high as 30%. In our practical experience, the prevalence falls around 40%. Some predisposing factors have been proposed, such as age, the occurrence of N&V, sweating or fatigue after the last cycle of CT, as well as a predisposition for motion sickness. Preventing ANV is the best available management approach, since, once established, ANV seems to be resistant to all pharmacological resources available. Behavioral techniques remain the standard of care in ANV.

Deterioration of the urinary function is a relevant complication within that context.ObjectiveTo detect the presence of urinary dysfunction and its risk factors among individuals underwent surgical treatment for rectal cancer.MethodsThe present prospective study analyzed 42 patients from both genders underwent surgical treatment for rectal adenocarcinoma with curative intent. The version of the International Prostatic Symptom Score (IPSS) questionnaire validated for the Portuguese language was applied at two time-points: immediately before and 6 months after surgery. Os autores relatam o caso de uma paciente pediátrica (três anos) com aplasia das asas nasais, conseqüente à síndrome de Johanson-Blizzard. É descrita a utilização do retalho médio frontal bifurcado para reconstrução bilateral do forro e cobertura cutânea das assas nasais, obtendo bom resultado em um único tempo cirúrgico.

Os autores relatam o caso de uma paciente pediátrica (três anos) com aplasia das asas nasais, conseqüente à síndrome de Johanson-Blizzard. É descrita a utilização do retalho médio frontal bifurcado para reconstrução bilateral do forro e cobertura cutânea das asas nasais, obtendo bom resultado em um único tempo cirúrgico.

Os autores relatam o caso de um paciente jovem (34 anos) com carcinoma espinocelular de lábio inferior. É descrita a técnica de reconstrução utilizando o retalho nasolabial miocutâneo ilhado da artéria facial. Fez-se, também, uma revisão bibliográfica sobre a técnica empregada e a anatomia da região.

Epiphrenic diverticulum is a rare disease associated with esophageal motor disorders that is usually asymptomatic and has a well-established surgical indication. We report a case of giant epiphrenic diverticulum in a 59-year-old symptomatic woman who was diagnosed after underwent complementary exams. Because of her symptoms, the surgical treatment was chosen, and esophageal diverticulectomy was performed along with laparoscopic cardiomyotomy and anterior partial fundoplication. RESUMO O divertículo epifrênico é uma patologia rara associada a distúrbios motores esofágicos e, frequentemente, assintomática, tendo indicações cirúrgicas bem estabelecidas. Relatamos um caso de divertículo epifrênico gigante em paciente de 59 anos, sexo feminino, sintomática, diagnosticada por exames complementares. Devido à sintomatologia, optou-se por tratamento cirúrgico, sendo realizada a diverticulectomia esofágica com cardiomiotomia e fundoplicatura parcial anterior laparoscópica.
