Abstract

In the Digital Age, the discussion that permeates the legal mechanisms that guarantee the intellectual property protection for software has been gaining prominence in the academic and business community. In this sense, this work aims to analyze the situation of the protection for software of the institutions that compose the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education (RFEPCT) filed at the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). This is a forecasting study, which was conducted in the database from INPI to gauging the requests of protection for software by institutions of RFEPCT in the period from 2009 to 2015. The results and discussions presented, was found that the institutions of RFEPCT maintain a growth trend in the number of protection for software in the INPI observed in the analyzed years, a fact that follows the national trend of protection for software also shows growth over the years. En la Era Digital, el debate que impregna los mecanismos legales que garantizan la propiedad intelectual de los programas informáticos ha ganado importancia en el medio académico y empresarial. En ese sentido, este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar la situación de protección de los programas informáticos de las instituciones que conforman la Red Federal de Educación Profesional, Científica y Tecnológica (RFEPCT) depositados en el Instituto Nacional de la Propiedad Industrial (INPI). Este es un estudio prospectivo realizado en la base de datos del INPI para evaluar las solicitudes de protección de los programas informáticos de las instituciones de la RFEPCT en el período de 2009 a 2015. Los resultados y discusiones presentados muestran que las instituciones de la RFEPCT mantienen una tendencia de crecimiento en el número de solicitudes de protección de los programas informáticos en el INPI observado en el período analizado, un hecho que acompaña la tendencia nacional de protección de programas informáticos que también ha crecido a lo largo de los años. Na Era Digital, a discussão que permeia os mecanismos jurídicos que garantem a propriedade intelectual dos programas de computador vem ganhando destaque no meio acadêmico e empresarial. Neste sentido, este artigo pretende analisar a conjuntura da proteção dos programas de computador das instituições que compõem a Rede Federal de Educação Profissional, Científica e Tecnológica (RFEPCT) depositados no Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial (INPI). Trata-se de um estudo prospectivo, o qual foi realizado na base de dados do INPI para aferir os pedidos de registros de programas de computador pelas instituições da RFEPCT no período de 2009 a 2015. Nos resultados e discussões apresentados, constata-se que as instituições da RFEPCT mantêm uma tendência de crescimento no número de pedidos de registros de programas de computador no INPI observada no período analisado, fato que acompanha a tendência nacional de registros de programas de computador que também apresenta crescimento ao longo dos anos.

13. Technological Forecasting of Traditional Knowledge Associated with Babassu

Abstract

Babassu is a native palm tree from Brazil traditionally used by Indigenous Peoples (IP) and Traditional Communities (TC), in order to produce medicines applied in different treatments. Some of these medicinal applications have been scientifically analyzed in order to prove their pharmacological potentialities and have also been an object of interest for the protection of Intellectual Property Rights. The objective of this work was to carry out the technological forecasting of traditional knowledge associated with babassu related to the treatments applied by traditional medicine and to analyze the indicators connected with to the protection of Intellectual Property Rights. Initially, we conducted a survey of ethnobotanical and ethnopharmacological studies, presenting applications of babassu performed by traditional medicine. Subsequently, we presented a literature review, focused on analyzing the effects of babassu according to the practices of traditional medicine. Finally, we analyzed the records of filed patents made in World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), European Patent Office (EPO) and Latin American Base of the European Patent Office (LATIPAT) in relation to previously identified Traditional Knowledge Associated (TKA). There were different types of babassu applications used by traditional medicine, according to the results of the ethnobotanical and ethnopharmacological studies carried out in Brazil. The applications that stood out were related to anti-inflammatory and cicatrizant treatments. Most of the pharmacological research that focused on proving the medicinal potential associated with the use of babassu, analyzed applications in anti-inflammatory and cicatrizant treatments, which mostly demonstrated these potentialities. It was verified that the interests for the protection of Intellectual Property Rights of the TKA with babassu, and the anti-inflammatory and cicatrizant treatments, presented a growth. 26. A performance index of football teams: the Spanish case.

Abstract

In this article, we propose an index to measure the performance of the Spanish Football league most important teams during the 2016/2017 season. Using data from 10 Spanish first division football clubs, and principal components analysis, we construct a performance index as a combination of five dimensions: economic, fans-related, historical, team quality and the season's data, along with 22 variables. Results show that Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Athletic de Madrid are the highest-ranked teams, matching their season's top positions. Additionally, while Sevilla, Villarreal, Real Sociedad and Espanyol exceeded expectations, Athletic de Bilbao, Valencia and Real Betis did not meet their own, compared with their season's position.
