The study evaluates the characteristics of tropospheric nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations from 2005 to 2020 in eight cities in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), Midwestern Brazil, using data available from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI). The average concentration varies from 2981 × 1015 molecules/cm2 in Campo Grande, where commercial, industrial and vehicular activities take place, to 2906 × 1015 molecules/cm2 in Corumbá and 3035 × 1015 molecules/cm2 in Porto Murtinho, regions of livestock and biomass burning. Precipitation is the most important variable in the hydrological cycle and can be estimated through remote sensing. Thus, the use of estimated satellite data has been an alternative to the absence of meteorological stations. The objective of this study was to evaluate the rainfall data of the TRMM satellite 3B43 product with data from the ANA site in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul for the period 1998 to 2013. For this purpose, it was used for the comparison of data from of the ANA site (OBS) and those estimated by the satellite, the following statistical indicators: Bias, Mean Square Error (EMQ), Pearson correlation coefficient (CC). For the most part, the satellite estimation data were satisfactory, especially for the months from March to November. The results indicate that the use of the estimated satellite data may be an alternative to the use of meteorological stations.

The objective of this research was to develop a model to predict ozone concentrations on the meteorological variables. Concentration measurements of ozone were conducted at the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, in the period 2007-2011. Predictor variables related to climate (relative humidity, wind speed, precipitation and temperature) have been provided by Embrapa- Gado de Corte, Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul. The model is able to explain over 70% of the variability concentrations of surface ozone.

OBJETIVO: Estudar a relação existente entre a o número de internações por doenças do aparelho respiratório em lactentes, crianças e adultos e as variações meteorológicas na cidade de Campo Grande (MS). MÉTODOS Foram utilizados dados diários de internações por doenças respiratórias, precipitação, temperatura do ar, umidade e velocidade dos ventos entre 2004 e 2008. Foram calculados os índices de conforto térmico humano, temperatura efetiva e temperatura efetiva com velocidade do vento com base nas variáveis meteorológicas. Foram realizados modelos lineares generalizados utilizando o modelo múltiplo de regressão de Poisson para predizer as internações por doenças respiratórias. RESULTADOS: Foram observados valores relativamente elevados dos coeficientes de correlação entre as variáveis estudadas e internações por pneumonia em crianças (R² = 68,4%), lactentes (R² = 71,8%) e adultos (R² = 81,8%). CONCLUSÕES: Os resultados aqui apresentados indicam em termos quantitativos o risco para um aumento no número de hospitalizações de crianças, lactentes e adultos de acordo com o aumento ou a diminuição das temperaturas, umidade, precipitação, velocidade dos ventos e índice de conforto térmico na cidade de Campo Grande. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether climate variability influences the number of hospitalizations for respiratory diseases in infants, children, and adults in the city of Campo Grande, Brazil. METHODS: We used daily data on admissions for respiratory diseases, precipitation, air temperature, humidity, and wind speed for the 2004-2008 period. We calculated the thermal comfort index, effective temperature, and effective temperature with wind speed (wind-chill or heat index) using the meteorological data obtained. Generalized linear models, with Poisson multiple regression, were used in order to predict hospitalizations for respiratory disease. RESULTS: The variables studied were (collectively) found to show relatively high correlation coefficients in relation to hospital admission for pneumonia in children (R² = 68.4%), infants (R² = 71.8%), and adults (R² = 81.8%). CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate a quantitative risk for an increase in the number of hospitalizations of children, infants, and adults, according to the increase or decrease in temperature, humidity, precipitation, wind speed, and thermal comfort index in the city under study.

Inúmeros setores da sociedade planejam suas atividades em razão das variações da precipitação e temperatura no Mato Grosso do Sul (MS). Desse modo, o objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar o clima do MS sob a perspectiva dessas variáveis. Para isso, foram utilizados dados de dezenove estações meteorológicas situadas no Estado, sendo empregada a técnica estatística da análise multivariada da Análise de Agrupamento (AA) pelo método de WARD. A técnica da AA mostrou que a proximidade das estações meteorológicas não garante o mesmo comportamento climático, visto que foram identificadas regiões homogêneas em diferentes locais do MS. Além disso, pela climatologia das regiões homogêneas, notou-se a influência e a importância de fatores climáticos como altitude, latitude e longitude. Logo, a técnica da AA mostrou resultados satisfatórios em relação às condições do MS. Palavras-chave: clima; Análise de Agrupamento; Mato Grosso do Sul. ABSTRACT Many sectors of society plan their activities due to variations in precipitation and temperature of Mato Grosso do Sul (MS). Thus, the objective was to examine climate of MS of perspective of these variables. For this, we used data of nineteen weather stations located in the state being used statistical technique of multivariate analysis of Cluster Analysis (AA) by WARD. The technique of AA was proximity of meteorological stations can not guarantee the same climatic pattern, whereas homogeneous regions were identified in different locations of MS. In addition, the climatology of homogeneous regions, we observed influence and importance of climatic factors such as altitude, latitude and longitude. RÉSUMÉ De nombreux secteurs de la société organisent leurs activités en fonction des variations de précipitions et de températures dans le Mato Grosso du Sud (MS). Ainsi l'objectif de ce travail a été d'analyser le climat du MS dans l'optique de ces variables. Pour ce faire, nous avons utilisé les données de 19 stations météorologiques situées dans l'Etat, en utilisant la technique statistique d'analyse multifactorielle de Cluster Analysis (AA) par la méthode de WARD. La technique de la AA montré que la proximité des stations météorologiques ne garantit pas le même comportement climatique, étant donné qu'on a repéré des régions homogènes dans différents lieux du MS. De plus, grâce à la climatologie des régions homogènes, on a remarqué l'influence et l'importance de facteurs climatiques comme l'altitude, la latitude et la longitude. Par conséquent, la technique de l'AR a donné des résultats satisfaisants par rapport aux conditions du MS. Mots clés : climat; Cluster Analysis; Mato Grosso do Sul. O conhecimento antecipado das condições meteorológicas pode ajudar a sociedade a evitar a degradação da natureza assim como prevenir doenças do aparelho respiratório. O objetivo deste estudo é realizar uma análise estatística e através dela criar um modelo capaz de predizer internações devido a doenças respiratórias, usando dados de poluição do ar e índices biometeorológicos, conhecidos como índices de conforto térmico humano (CTH). O estudo utilizou dados diários de internações por afecções das vias aéreas com diagnóstico de doenças respiratórias, concentração de ozônio (O3), dados de precipitação, temperatura do ar, umidade e velocidade dos ventos de 2004 a 2010 referentes à cidade de Campo Grande no Mato Grosso do Sul. Foram calculados os índices de CTH índice de Temperatura Efetiva (TE) e o índice de Temperatura Efetiva com Vento (TEV) com base nas variáveis meteorológicas. Através da metodologia estatística de Modelos Lineares Generalizados (MLG) usando a Regressão de Poisson chegou-se a um modelo capaz de prever as internações por doenças respiratórias. Os resultados encontrados mostraram associações entre o número de internações e o O3 com defasagem de 4 dias e com o índice TEV MED também com defasagem de 3 dias. O aumento da concentração de O3 provoca um aumento nas internações e o risco relativo das pessoas expostas a este poluente contrair doenças respiratórias é maior do que daqueles que não se expõem. Já o conforto térmico provocado pelo aumento do índice TEV MED atua como fator de proteção para o n° de internações visto que o risco relativo diminui com o aumento deste índice. O modelo é satisfatório, visto que conseguiu mostrar que as variáveis ambientais podem ser usadas para estimar internações hospitalares. ABSTRACT - The Advance knowledge of weather conditions with an accurate forecast can help society avoid the degradation of the environment so as to prevent respiratory diseases. The objective of this study is to use a statistical analysis to develop a model to predict hospitalization due to respiratory diseases, using data from air pollution indices and Biometeorology known as human thermal comfort index (CTH). The study used daily data of admissions for disorders of the airways with a diagnosis of respiratory diseases, concentration of ozone (O3), and information on rain precipitation, air temperature, humidity and wind speed from 2004 to 2010 of the city of Campo Grande in Mato Grosso do Sul. This project proves calculations for the index of CTH Effective Temperature (ET) and the index of Effective Temperature with Wind (VTE) based on meteorological variables. Through the statistical methodology of generalized linear models (GLM) using the Regression of Poisson it was established and developed a model capable of predicting hospital admissions for respiratory diseases. The results indicated the associations between the number of admissions and O3with a lag of 4 days and with the index VTE MED also with a lag of 3 days. The increase of concentration of O3 causes an enlargement in admissions and the relative risk for people exposed to this pollutant to contract respiratory diseases is higher than those that are not exposed. Nevertheless, the thermal comfort caused by the increase of the index VTE MED acts as a protective factor for the number of hospitalizations since the relative risk decreases with the increase of this index. This model is satisfactory as it was able to show that environmental variables can be used to estimate hospitalizations.

Nos centros urbanos existe uma grande contribuição de poluentes atmosféricos provenientes de fontes móveis, reduzindo a qualidade do ar e, consequentemente aumentando a incidência de problemas respiratórios na população local. O Município de Campo Grande/MS além de apresentar uma frota veicular em franco crescimento, apresenta condições de baixa umidade relativa do ar, principalmente no inverno com ventos com baixas velocidades, que propiciam à má dispersão dos poluentes na atmosfera. Esta condição intensifica a exposição da população aos poluentes atmosféricos, aumentando os efeitos sobre a saúde e o bem-estar da população local. Visando auxiliar a tomada de decisões antes da ocorrência de episódios críticos de poluição atmosférica, para proteger a população é importante que sejam conhecidas as concentrações e os poluentes lançados na atmosfera, e a sua distribuição espacial em torno das vias públicas. Assim, este trabalho teve como objetivo realizar o inventário das emissões de fontes móveis, obtendo-se as quantidades de poluentes emitidos pela frota em uma região de grande tráfego de automóveis utilitários e caminhões, onde centenas de estudantes circulam diariamente. Adicionalmente, foram avaliados a dispersão e o transporte dos poluentes na atmosfera, com a utilização do software AERMOD. ABSTRACT - In urban centers there is a significant contribution of air pollutants from mobile sources, reducing air quality and thus increasing the incidence of respiratory problems in the local population. The city of Campo Grande / MS in addition to presenting a rapidly growing vehicle fleet, presents conditions of low relative humidity, especially in winter with low wind speeds, which allow the poor dispersion of pollutants in the atmosphere. This condition intensifies the exposure to air pollutants, increasing the effects on the health and well-being of local people. Aiming to assist the decision-making before the occurrence of critical episodes of air pollution, to protect the population it is important to known concentrations and pollutants emitted into the atmosphere, and their spatial distribution around the streets. This work was aimed at making an inventory of mobile sources emissions, to obtain the quantities of pollutants emitted by the fleet in an area with heavy traffic of cars and utility trucks, where hundreds of students circulate daily. In addition, the dispersion and transport of the pollutants in the atmosphere, were evaluated using software AERMOD.

O estado de Mato Grosso do Sul caminha para o desenvolvimento industrial, abrigando indústrias de transformação com uma taxa de crescimento de 0,7%. (IBGE, 2011). Ainda que seus números de indústrias sejam de pouca monta, alguns de seus municípios sofrem com a poluição advinda principalmente pela queima de biomassa, e muito provavelmente de outros estados e até de países vizinhos. Casos de problemas de saúde e até mortes foram exaustivamente relacionados com poluição atmosférica, principalmente em situações desfavoráveis para sua dispersão. Foi utilizado o sensor MODIS presente nos satélites Terra e Aqua e a plataforma Giovanni para gerar os dados diários dos principais municípios do estado no período de 10.07.2002 a 10.07.2011: Campo Grande, Dourados, Corumbá e Três Lagoas. Foram verificados os dias com Profundidade Óptica acima de 1,5 que se relaciona com concentrações de poluentes acima de 150μg.m-3, padrão estabelecido pela Resolução CONAMA Nº 3/1990. Foram observados dias críticos (Profundidade Óptica acima de 1,5) em todos os municípios pelo menos uma vez ao ano, sendo o pior deles Corumbá com 66 dias críticos ao longo do período de aquisição de dados, seguido de Campo Grande com 28 dias, Dourados 25 dias e Três Lagoas com 15 dias. Esses eventos críticos ocorreram principalmente no período de Agosto a Outubro onde normalmente ocorrem as queimadas. ABSTRACT - Mato Grosso do Sul is heading for the industrial development, by processing industries with a growth rate of 0.7 %. (IBGE, 2011). Even if its number of industries are minor, some of their communities suffering from the air pollution mainly by the burning of biomass, and very probably of other states and even of borderer countries. Cases of health problems and even deaths have been thoroughly related to air pollution, especially in adverse situations for its dispersion as low air humidity, thermal reversals and wind. It has been used the sensor MODIS installed in both satellites Terra and Aqua and the platform Giovanni to generate the daily data of the main towns of the state in the period of 07.10.2002 to 07.10.2011 : Campo Grande, Dourados, Corumbá and Três Lagoas. They have been verified the days with Aerosol Optical Depth above 1.5 that relates to concentrations of pollutants above 150μg.m-3 standard set by CONAMA Resolution Number 3/1990. Have been observed critical days (Aerosol Optical Depth above 1.5 ) in all the municipalities at least once a year, and the worst of them, Corumbá with 66 days over the period of data acquisition, followed by Campo Grande with 28 days, Dourados 25 and Três Lagoas 15 days. These critical events occurred mainly in August to October, period of biomass burning.
