- Abstract
Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival, with several benefits for both the infants and their mothers. However, breast milk can contain environmental pollutants with endocrine disruption capacity, neurotoxicity and/or potential to alter microbiota. Monitoring breast milk provides information on the current chemical exposure of breastfed infants and, in addition, on the current and historical exposure of nursing mothers. In this study, the levels of a wide range of pollutants were measured in breast milk of Spanish nursing mothers. Target chemicals were dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE), hexachlorobenzene (HCB), oxy-chlordane, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) (including perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)), chlorpyrifos, bisphenol A (BPA), tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA), and a number of toxic and essential elements. Traces of most chemicals were found. A correlation between the levels of some persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and maternal characteristics (age and body mass index) was observed, while smoking was associated to higher concentrations of some toxic elements. Higher levels of PCBs were detected in samples from Spanish primiparous mothers compared to non-Spanish multiparous women. Breast milk from low-income mothers showed higher content of DDT and DDE than high-income mothers. Although breastfeeding is clearly beneficial for babies, the exposure to this mixture of hazardous substances, as well as their interaction and combined effects must not be disregarded.

Medical - Abstract
Recent advances in imaging studies and treatment approaches have greatly improved our knowledge about Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA). Previously thought of as a predominantly cranial disease, we now know that GCA is a systemic disease that may involve other medium and large vessel territories. Several imaging studies have shown that between 30 and 70% of patients with GCA present with large-vessel vasculitis. Moreover, a significant proportion of patients present large-vessel disease in the absence of cranial involvement. Extra-cranial disease also poses management challenges as these patients may have a more refractory-relapsing disease course and need additional therapies. Aortic dilation and aneurysms are well-described late complications of GCA involving the large artery territories. In this chapter, we discuss the clinical picture of extra-cranial involvement in GCA, focusing on improved diagnostic protocols and suitable treatment strategies.

Fruit not seen. Etymology: The specific epithet is a tribute to the Brazilian pharmacist Sheylla Susan Moreira da Silva de Almeida, who has contributed to the studies of new bioactive molecules for multiple uses, and recently began to do prospective studies on Catasetinae. Distribution and habitat: This new natural hybrid has been collected on a fallen phorophyte in an anthropized forest de igap (floodplain) having suffered fire damage, on the river Mamuru in the municipality of Aveiro, PA, Brazil. Given that part of this river also runs in the Amazonas state we think that the taxon should also occur there. The putative parent species has also been observed in this area (see more below). According to Petini-Benelli (2020), C. boyi is distributed to the states of Amazonas and Par. It has been registered to occur in the municipality of Aveiro on the basis of material collected by one of the present authors (J.B.F. da Silva) and deposited at MG (151046). Meanwhile, according to Petini-Benelli (2020) C. garnettianum has restricted distribution to the state of Amazonas. However, its occurrence in Par is also confirmed on the basis of material collected by one of the present authors (J.B.F. da Silva) in the municipality of Aveiro and deposited at MG (198317). The occurrence of putative parental species is therefore confirmed for the municipality where the new natural hybrid was found. Phenology and floral visitors: the flowering time of the new taxon occurs from June to August. As for the putative parental species, both can be observed flowering during the first half of the year, mainly between the months of April and June; between April and May for C. boyi and between February and June for C. garnettianum (personal observations by A.H. Krahl and J.B.F. da Silva). Thus, the flowering times of the taxa overlap at least partly in the area of the study, making the cross-pollination possible. Male bees of belonging to the genus Euglossa spp. (Euglossini) are the main floral visitors of the parental species (personal observations by J.B.F. da Silva). These bees appear to visit the flowers in order to collect volatile compounds present in the lip. Morphological affinities: the new entity presents a morphology that is intermediate between that of the two putative parents, C. boyi and C. garnettianum (Table 1). Vegetatively, Catasetum species are practically indistinguishable (Holst 1999, Walker-Larsen & Harder 2000). However, the new nothospecies has large pseudobulbs similar to those of C. boyi, rather than the short pseudobulbs reported for C. garnettianum (Petini-Benelli 2020). The leaves of C. sheyllae are oblanceolate, as in C. boyi, rather than oblong-lanceolate as in C. garnettianum (Petini-Benelli 2020). The most notorious features of C. sheyllae lie in the male flowers. The elliptic petals and lanceolate sepals are similar to those of C. garnettianum, whereas the lip is trilobed, as in C. boyi, rather than entire. The lip has a rounded sac as in C. boyi and shows the same small triangular erect acute calli at the base of both lateral lobes. The lateral lobes are ovate and erect (as in C. boyi) but their margins are laciniate. They are more similar to those of C. garnettianum, which has sparsely ciliate margin, rather than the denticulate margin of the lateral lobes with obliquely rising teeth seen in C. boyi. The median lobe is ovate as in C. boyi and oblong as in C. garnettianum. The margin of the new taxon is sparsely dentate as in C. garnettianum (margins sparsely ciliate) and shows a small tooth-like callus at apex, probably inherited from C. garnettianum that has a prominent callus at the lip apex (Rolfe 1888, Mansfeld 1930, Petini-Benelli 2020, table 1). The antennas are parallel and directed towards the center (parallel to convergent), as in C. boyi (Petini-Benelli 2020)., Published as part of Canturia, Patrick De Castro, Krahl, Dayse Raiane Passos, Krahl, Amauri Herbert, Chiron, Guy & Silva, Joo Batista Fernandes Da, 2021, Catasetum sheyllae (Orchidaceae: Catasetinae), a new natural hybrid from Brazilian Amazon, pp. 257-265 in Phytotaxa 527 (4) on pages 259-262, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.527.4.3, http://zenodo.org/record/5766200, {"references":["Petini-Benelli, A. The country present itself as the major world producer of the fruit and also the major consumer. Lately, it is observed the growth of studies with genetic materials cultivated under organic management of passion-fruit crop cultures, what equally indicates the necessity of works focusing over the following the fertilization with organic sources attending nutritional requirements of the culture. Tephrosia sinapou is a shrub legume with potential for green manure and it is being almost not explored in the country. In this study was evaluated 1) Tephrosia vegetable biomass capacity as fertilizer for attending the nitrogen (N) demand for the passionfruit culture in organic production system, and 2) the decomposing rate and nitrogen (N) release from it?s biomass. The experiment was conducted in the Fazendinha Agroecol?gica Km 47, in the Serop?dica region conditions. For the first evaluated parameter it was adopted the randomized block design (RBD) with 4 treatments, 3 blocks and 3 repetitions. Where: Treatment 1 (T1) ? witness (without fertilization); Treatment 2 (T2) ? castor bean pie (CBP); Treatment3 (T3) ? Tephrosia fresh biomass (TFB); Treatment 4 (T4) a combination of 50% castor bean pie + 50% Tephrosia fresh biomass (CBP +TFB). In the second evaluated parameter, in relation to the determination of vegetable biomass decomposing of different parts of the plant (leaf, stalk, leaf + stalk) using litter bag methodology. It was adopted RBD and each distinct material considered a treatment, being 3 treatments, 3 blocks and 10 repetitions. The obtained results in this study demonstrated that the distinct parts of the plant presented distinct nitrogen decomposing and release times in function of C/N relation, being that as greater the C/N relation, greater were half-life (t1/2) times of the dry matter, being the leaf fraction with the minor half life time (38 days), followed by the leaft + stalk material (66 days) and the stalk (150 days). The half-life time nitrogen release of the leaf was the minor (29 days), followed by leaf + stalk material (38 days) and stalk (102 days). The castor bean pie (T2), for being a small C/N relation compost and quick nitrogen release, was the treatment with major total productivity (13,37 t ha-1), producing around 14% more than the witness treatment (11,5 t ha-1), 27% more than the treatment with Tephrosia biomass (9,7 t ha-1) e 10% more than the treatment with the mixture of castor bean pie (CBP) with Tephrosia (T4). The fertilization with Tephrosia biomass (T3) obtained productivity reduction around 15%, when compared with the witness treatment (T1), suggesting a lack of nitrogen for the sour passion-fruit cultivar of this treatment with the leguminous biomass, maybe due to the nitrogen immobilization in soil. The fertilization did not influence in the soluble solids content (oBrix).

Test Suite ,OCRE ,Commercial Cloud Providers ,OCRE Framework ,Cloud - Abstract
The objective of the test suite is to validate commercial cloud services for the benefit of scientific workloads in multiple domains. The development of the test suite originates from the HNSciCloud project, where automation was lacking as tests deployments were executed manually, in a scattered manner with no result tracking capabilities. The initial version of the test suite has been developed during the OCRE project, and successfully deployed in a number of cloud providers before the existence of the OCRE Framework. Regarding the validation of cloud services under the OCRE Framework, access to the 27 cloud platforms present in OCRE will be necessary. To this end, CERN proposes to include an obligation to provide access to a billing account with a limited number of funds made available by the cloud vendors of the original 27 cloud platforms represented either directly or via resellers with contracts adjudicated through the OCRE Framework. This limited amount of funds will be used to validate cloud services in each of the platforms, to trial different configurations, billing controls, and to validate exit strategies. The test suite developed by CERN under an AGPL license is expected to become part of best practice, and to be adopted for on-boarding commercial cloud services to research environments in the context of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).

- Abstract
This work investigated the biotransformation of ginger constituents (zingerone, [6]-shogaol, [6]-gingerol, and methyl-[6]-gingerol) by the pathogenic fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Experiments were carried out with and without deuterium-labelled compounds. The product metabolites were analyzed by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography solid phase extraction-nuclear magnetic resonance. Substrates supplied to the fungus were incorporated into metabolic pathways mostly by oxidation reactions, including aromatic carboncarbon coupling. Zingerone and [6]-gingerol biotransformation products included biphenol dimers. A biodegradation pathway for biphenol formation was proposed based on the presence of the intermediate 4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-2-methoxyphenol, commonly identified from [6]-gingerol and [6]-shogaol biodegradation. This intermediate likely originates from a BaeyerVilliger reaction followed by hydrolysis. The CC coupling of molecules could result in phenolic oxidative orthoortho coupling, suggesting that biphenol dimers are products of C. gloeosporioides laccase catalysis.

- Abstract
Breastfeeding is the best way to feed an infant, although it can also be a source of abiotic contaminants such as heavy metals or bisphenol A (BPA). The early life exposure to these compounds can lead to serious toxic effects in both the short and long-term. These substances can reach breast milk through the mother’s habits, diet being one of the main routes of exposure. The aim of the present work was to analyse possible associations between the dietary habits of women and the content of major trace elements, BPA, fatty acids and lipids, and the microbiological and immunological profiles of human milk. Possible associations between major trace elements and BPA and the lipid, microbiological and immunological profiles were also analysed. The results of this study support that the microbiological composition of human milk is associated with the dietary habits of the women, and that the consumption of canned drinks is related to the presence of BPA in human milk. Furthermore, some relationships were found between the amount of major trace elements and the microbiological and immunological profile of the milk samples. Finally, the presence of BPA was associated with changes in the immunological profile of human milk. © 2021 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland.

Background & Aims: Individual risk for developing alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) varies greatly. We hypothesized that metabolic risk factors and genetic polymorphisms predict severity of ALD. Methods: Biopsy-controlled, cross-sectional study in patients with a history of excessive drinking. We measured the homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), plasma triglycerides, high- and low-density lipoproteins (HDL, LDL), and total cholesterol. Moreover, we genotyped four single nucleotide polymorphisms in PNPLA3 (rs738409C>G), TM6SF2 (rs58542926C>T), MBOAT7 (rs641738C>T), and HSD17B13 (rs72613567T>TA). We assessed predictors of higher fibrosis stage using multivariable ordered logistic regression. Results: Of 325 included patients, 25% had severe fibrosis or cirrhosis and 59% had HOMA-IR ≥2.5. HOMA-IR increased for each fibrosis stage, while there was a similar decrease in LDL and total cholesterol. Individuals with risk variant PNPLA3 rs738409-G or TM6SF2 rs58542926-T had higher fibrosis stage. In multivariable regression, HOMA-IR ≥2.5 (OR = 3.04, 95% CI 1.90-4.87), LDL

Physical training is an important non-pharmacological therapeutic method for the treatment and prevention of diseases such as obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Rodent ladder training can be a strategy to study the effects of training without glucose metabolism. Previously, our research group noted that stair climbing training was able to improve glucose tolerance and reduce adiposity in mice fed a high-fat diet. In the present study, we used data from that study to analyze insulin resistance, mitochondrial function in muscle and adipose tissue, the proteins involved with insulin resistance in skeletal muscle tissue. Forty-eight animals were divided into 2 groups (n = 24) with a chow group fed commercial feed (10% of the fat calories) and an HFD group (on a high fat diet) fed with a high fat diet (42% of the fat calories) by 12 weeks. In the fifth week, all animals were adapted to climb stairs and underwent physical tests to determine the load used in training. The groups were subdivided into sedentary groups and trained groups (n = 12 / group). In the sixth experimental week, the training protocol started progressively, which lasted for 6 weeks. Stair climbing strength training improved insulin resistance and increased protein content and phosphorylation related to glucose metabolism that was altered in sedentary animals fed a high-fat diet. The present study showed that stair climbing strength training was able to improve insulin resistance, probably due to modular intracellular proteins related to the insulin signaling pathway.

In 1782 Jos Monteiro da Rocha, astronomer and professor of the University of Coimbra, presented in a public session of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Lisbon a memoir on the problem of the determination of the comets' orbits. Only in 1799, the "Determinao das Orbitas dos Cometas" (Determination of the orbits of comets) would be published in the Academy's memoires. In that work, Monteiro da Rocha presents a method for solving the problem of the determination of the parabolic orbit of a comet from three observations. Monteiro da Rocha's method is essentially the same method proposed by Olbers and published under von Zach's sponsorship two years before, in 1797. To have been written and published in Portuguese was certainly a hindrance for its dissemination among the international astronomical community. In this article, we intend to present Monteiro da Rocha's method and trying to see to what extent Gomes Teixeira's assertion (Teixeira 1934) that Monteiro da Rocha and Olbers must figure together in the history of astronomy, as the first inventors of a practical and easy method for the determination of parabolic orbits of comets, is justified., Accepted in Journal for the History of Astronomy

human biomonitoring ,administrative registers ,health survey - Abstract
The European Human Biomonitoring Initiative (HBM4EU) is a joint effort of 28 countries(24 European Member States, three associated countries and Switzerland), the EuropeanEnvironment Agency and the European Commission, co-funded under Horizon2020. The main objective of HBM4EU is to use Human Biomonitoring (HBM) to assess human exposure to chemicals in Europe in order to better understand the associated health impacts and to improve chemical risk assessment. HBM4EU will generate knowledge on chemical exposure levels in the population and their health effects. In parallel to HBM studies, health examination surveys (HES) are conducted in many European countries. HES are surveys where information collected by questionnaire(s) is complemented with information obtained by physical measurements such as blood pressure and anthropometric measurements, and by analysis of biomarkers from biological samples. The European Health Examination Survey (EHES)was established in 2010 to coordinate the development of national HESs in Europe. Between 2000 and 2017, 15 European countrieshave conducted a national HES and in many countries smaller, regional or disease specific surveys have been carried out. Since for both HBM studies and HESs, data is collected through fieldwork, which is one of the largest expenses for such studies and needed infrastructures are very similar, the potential to combine these two types of studies has been considered. This could result in more cost-effective ways to conduct health and environmental monitoring. In some countries, such as Germany, Israel and France, this combination has already been done at national or regional level. Human Biomonitoring and health studies have a lot of similarities in terms of the infrastructure and procedures required for their implementation. However, in practice, the opportunity for adding a HBM module to an ongoing/planned health study (and vice versa) is rarely used. Reasons for this may be multifarious and may differ from country to country, and between different study settings. This report will look at different aspects related to combining HBM and health studies, together with possibilities for mortality and morbidity follow-up through linkage to administrative registers. This report will also provide information about identified and possible health effects related to the chemical exposures and how to directly measure those health effects. WP14 has worked in more detail on effect biomarkers for different health effects.3 Therefore, this report has four main parts: Part A. Opportunities and obstacles of combining HBM and health studies Part B. Availability of administrative registers and possibilities for their use in HBM studies Part C. Measuring potential health effects of the priority substances Part D. SOPs for selected health measurements.

- Abstract
In the present study, the presence of a wide spectrum of major and trace elements (As, Ag, Al, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Mn, Ni, Sr, Sb, Se, Sn, Pb, V, and Zn), fatty acids, as well as some pollutants like free and total BPA and tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA), was analysed in human milk (n = 53) and infant formula (n = 50) samples. In addition, the infant exposure to these chemicals was assessed. The content of free BPA and several elements (Al, Ca, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, Sn, Sr, and Zn) was higher (p < 0.01) in infant formula samples. Furthermore, human milk contained levels of BPA and elements that, in almost all cases, were well below their respective EFSA and/or WHO thresholds, being also independent of the maternal characteristics (e.g., age, BMI or breastfeeding period). The fatty acid profiling also revealed major differences between human milk and infant formulas, which should be taken in account in the development of new formulas as well as in specific recommendations for the diet of breastfeeding mothers. Anyway, the results of this study reinforce that breastfeeding should be always the first feeding option in early life.

- Abstract
Nossa hipótese ainda não é suficientemente aprofundada nesta dissertação, mas apontamos caminhos para delimitá-la e testá-la melhor, a partir de critérios teóricos e históricos In this dissertaton, we present a theoretcal and methodological discussion about what fundamentally determines the struggles for emancipaton. At frst, we identfy that consciousness is popularly taken as if it were the determinant factor in this regard. Then, we analyze a few academic studies from the feld of Psychology and the Human Sciences, which assume that consciousness indeed occupies this determining role in class struggle. They have some methodological features in common: through interviews, they harvest empirical data about what workers think, and, aferwards, rank their consciousnesses in diferent levels, some closer to and some further from the possibility of emancipaton. We critcize, within these researches, a dualist concepton of Human, that splits body and spirit, identfying in such a concepton the impossibility of proposing efectve agency to workers. Furthermore, we call upon the dialectcal reasoning and build a monist concepton of subject, denying the split and trying to enlighten a path to emancipatory practces. To concretely comprehend the possibilites of this kind of subjects emergence in class struggle, we establish a dialogue with Lukács and his formulatons on class consciousness. This author intends to theorize materialistcally and dialectcally about this issue. Class consciousness of workers, for him, is not the empirically observed consciousness, but the psychological consciousness necessary for them to accomplish the revolutonary goal of their class. Despite Lukács surpassing the empirical studies previously mentoned, we also critcize his formulatons because he backslides on idealism and a politcal fatalism, equally unable to guide the acton towards emancipaton. At last, out of materialistc critcism we bring onto idealistc elements in Lukács, we propose a hypothesis on the fundamental determinant of emancipatory struggles: such determinant is more closely related to the organizaton of workers than to their consciousness or any other ideal aspect. Our hypothesis is not yet sufciently explored as of this dissertaton, but here we point towards paths to beter bound it with theoretcal and historical criteria

In this paper we modify and generalize a construction presented by Novotn: given a groupoid (a set equipped with a binary operation), it is defined a mono-unary algebra corresponding to that specific groupoid. We shall introduce and study a functor from the category of n-ary groupoids to the category of mono-unary algebras. The main result of this paper concerns the construction of homomorphisms between n-ary groupoids, a natural generalization of the method presented by Novotn., The author was notified that the constructions described in the paper were already described in Construction of all homomorphisms of mono-n-ary algebras, Czechoslovak Mathematical Journal, Vol. 46 (1996), No. 2, 331--333

Several species are important resource in the construction timber, spice, essential oil, and medicinal plants. Among the 22 genera of Lauraceae occurring in Brazil, Urbandodendron Mez. is a genus with three species found in Southeastern Brazil and in Bahia state. Due to the complexity of that group, several classification systems have been proposed to the family. The most recent system suggests the division of the Lauroidea subfamily into three tribes, based on inflorescence morphology and on characters of wood and bark anatomy. On the other hand, Urbanodendron has not been included in that classification, since there are no studies on wood anatomy for that genus up to date. This study aims to provide information that can support Lauraceae taxonomy by describing wood characters of Urbanodendron bahiense (Meisn.) and U. verrucosum (Ness) Mez., followed by a literature review on the wood anatomy of other 21 genera of Lauraceae. Wood samples of both species were collected with an increment borer and processed based on usual techniques of optical and scanning electron microscopy. In order to verify if environmental factors may affect wood structure, samples were collected in Lowland and Submontane Ombrophilous Dense Forest remnants located in two conservation units in Rio de Janeiro state, the Parque Natural Municipal do Curi? and the Reserva Biol?gica de Po?o das Antas. A Principal Coordinates Analysis (PCoA) was used to evaluate how wood anatomy characters may support an intrafamiliar diagnosis in Lauraceae. The comparative analysis between the wood anatomies of U. bahiense e U. verrucosum indicated a homogeneous wood structure for both species, as observed in the other genera of Lauraceae, showing the following wood anatomical characters: growth ring boundaries distinct; porosity diffuse, solitary vessels and radial multiplex of 2-4, circular to oval outline, exclusively simple perforation plates, alternate intervessel pits; septate fibre; axial parenchyma paratracheal vasicentric; uniseriate and multiseriate (2-3 cells) rays; presence of phenolic compounds, mucilage and oil cells. Both species differ only in the location and frequency of oil/mucilage cells. The PCoA showed that wood anatomical characters effectively supported the diagnosis of tribes Cryptocaryeae, Laureae and Perseeae. The structure of the secondary xylem in Urbanodendronhave characters which are common to genera Aniba, Licaria, Nectandra, Ocotea and Persea, all belonging to tribe Perseeae, suggesting the placement of Urbanodendron in that same tribe. There were no quantitative statistically significant differences between cell elements present in individuals from both forest remnants. Lauraceae Juss.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a malignant neoplasm that mainly affects elderly people. The onset of the disease is related with exposure to risk factors and the decline of immune function associated with chronological aging. Previous studies have demonstrated an increased incidence of CECO in young adults, suggesting involvement of other factors in the etiology of the disease, such as a change in the immune system. Dendritic cells (DCs) are professional antigen presenting cells and effective for stimulating clonal expansion of lymphocytes. It is believed that a change in the function of DC in cancer patients contributes to the failure of the anti-tumor response, leading to a consequent progression of the disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate, by immunohistochemistry, if there were differences in tissue quantification of DCs subsets, associated with age in specimens of OSCC biopsies. For this OSCC cases were selected at three different ages: G1 (< 40 years old, n = 12), G2 (? 40 to

Business simulation games are considered as effective tools for the empowerment and mediation of business content learning. They act as serious games which contribute to learning through a simulation of real-life situations and business environments. They are especially useful in the area of business management processes and business strategies. The blending of designed simulation technology and content curricula offers participants (players, students) a risk-free opportunity to test out a range of relevant strategies to drive business results. By customizing computer-based business simulations, participants can integrate key strategic and financial priorities. This paper provides a brief review of business simulations that serve learning purposes. The first part presents a short introduction and description of business games and their evaluation properties, and the second part provides a brief evaluation and analysis of selected business simulation games.

One of the most important assets of any company is being able to easily access information on itself and on its business. In this line, it has been observed that this important information is often stored in one of the millions of spreadsheets created every year, due to simplicity in using and manipulating such an artifact. Unfortunately, in many cases it is quite difficult to retrieve the intended information from a spreadsheet: information is often stored in a huge unstructured matrix, with no care for readability or comprehensiveness. In an attempt to aid users in the task of extracting information from a spreadsheet, researchers have been working on models, languages and tools to query. In this paper we present an empirical study evaluating such proposals assessing their usage to query spreadsheets. We investigate the use of the Google Query Function, textual model-driven querying, and visual model-driven querying. To compare these different querying approaches we present an empirical study whose results show that the end-users' productivity increases when using model-driven queries, specially using its visual representation.

- Abstract
This book focuses on various topics related to engineering and management of requirements, in particular elicitation, negotiation, prioritisation, and documentation (whether with natural languages or with graphical models). The book provides methods and techniques that help to characterise, in a systematic manner, the requirements of the intended engineering system. It was written with the goal of being adopted as the main text for courses on requirements engineering, or as a strong reference to the topics of requirements in courses with a broader scope. It can also be used in vocational courses, for professionals interested in the software and information systems domain. Readers who have finished this book will be able to: - establish and plan a requirements engineering process within the development of complex engineering systems; - define and identify the types of relevant requirements in engineering projects; - choose and apply the most appropriate techniques to elicit the requirements of a given system; - conduct and manage negotiation and prioritisation processes for the requirements of a given engineering system; - document the requirements of the system under development, either in natural language or with graphical and formal models. Each chapter includes a set of exercises.

Spreadsheets are widely used, and studies have shown that most end-user spreadsheets contain nontrivial errors. To improve end-users productivity, recent research proposes the use of a model-driven engineering approach to spreadsheets. In this paper we conduct the first systematic empirical study to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of this approach. A set of spreadsheet end users worked with two different model-based spreadsheets, and we present and analyze here the results achieved., 14 Pages, 9 Colour Figures, 2 Tables; Proc. Background and context Creativity and innovation remain vital ingredients to the success of any organisation. Working in silo can stifle teams from maintaining interest in the activities of the wider hospice workforce. A challenge for many clinical teams is to encourage and stimulate the generation of new ideas and innovations that can benefit and sustain a wider and future workforce including addressing the needs of pre-registration nursing students. The hospice in-patient unit established the need for a means of communicating key information/resources to highlight the practices beyond the IPU. Aim To create a resource tool for clinical staff and student nurses to share and disseminate information, forging links and engagement with the wider palliative care teams. For the tool to support the future re-validation process for Registered Nurses. Approaches Development of a colourful, attractive “pick n mix” resource board incorporatingthe hospice logo detailing 26 varied opportunities for staff to engage with the wider multi-disciplinary team, and experience local and national services allied to our care. This tool was developed by a qualified member of the nursing team in the In-Patient Unit and is updated by its originator on a weekly basis to reflect the varied and changing learning opportunities in the Hospice and the wider community. In addition, the board identifies mandatory training and clinical competencies. This acts as a prompt for staff to acknowledge their personal responsibility to the Hospice and the NMC. Outcomes The ‘pick n mix9 board raised awareness of the diverse ways in which we deliver evidence based end of life care. It enhanced creative thinking and encouraged nurses to remain updated. Formal evaluations of the number of study leave applications pertaining to the 26 learning opportunities will be audited. A six month review of the success of the tool will take place through group discussions and an anonymised evaluation form.

Introduction Communication skills training is traditionally directed towards clinicians. At St Francis we identified a need to support our fundraising staff in their confidence in their daily conversations. These conversations often included distressed bereaved relatives. Aims To increase the communication skills and confidence of fundraising staff in the community and public setting. Methods A ½ day interactive workshop using videoed role play with a Connected actor, facilitator and communication skills trainer. The role play was based upon scenarios provided by the fundraisers prior to the workshop. They completed a pre and post workshop confidence questionnaire and a follow-up one 3 months later. Results 11 fundraising staff attended. Scenarios revolved around distressed relatives (expected and unexpected), and questions about care and dying in the context of fundraising for the hospice. Pre and post course questionnaires showed an increase in confidence in challenging conversations. The workshop was highly evaluated. Discussion ▶Fundraising staff do not necessarily have the day to day experience of clinical conversations to draw upon, but bereaved families have the same expectations of them as clinical staff in terms of conveying empathy and compassion. ▶There is a parallel agenda of empathy versus receiving a donation, eliciting a “story” or discussing a fundraising event. ▶The communication challenges are similar to clinicians and the power of silence is a similar take home message. ▶The advantages of using videoed role play include giving participants the chance to see and discuss things they might have missed first time around. Conclusion Fundraising staff have similar communication training motivation as clinical staff. The workshop was a worthwhile education event, albeit seeming too short – in the future it would be beneficial to mix more non-clinical staff to give a wider breadth of discussion and experience – this is planned for later in 2011.

Aims Through the catalyst of ‘pony experience’ bereaved children and parents are facilitated into meaningful conversations with each other and supportive relationships with other families. Method Once a month bereaved children and families are invited to meet in the Hospice Woodland Walk for Pony Experience, including grooming and riding. Results ▶Commonalty of experience: participants meet other bereaved families, enabling them to share “their stories” should they wish and develop co -supportive relationships. ▶Children gain confidence – “Life will go on even without their loved one” ▶Observing other children confirms they are not alone, seeing others having fun gives permission for them to do likewise. ▶Walking side by side feels less intense, enabling easy conversation and ability to explore and chat at differing levels. ▶This informal bereavement group work is well attended with positive oral feedback. Formal evaluation underway- results pending. Discussion Benefits Children feel more at ease when handling a pet or when being “carried” by a pony. They can use the animal as distraction from uncomfortable conversations to disclose intimacies/memories that may otherwise be difficult. Challenges Gaining insurance for the pony component proved challenging but possible. Health and safety issues require stringency. Conclusion Intrinsic to palliative care and bereavement support is focusing upon the little things that make a person feel respected and loved. We have launched a project that is simple in its theory, but complex and diverse in its positive outcomes. Recommendations We appeal to all Hospices to explore whether they could use pets in similar ways to support children requiring essential but difficult pre and post bereavement care. Oral presentation will include photos (consented)and interviews from users.

The mahogany shoot borer, Hypsipyla grandella, is one of the most economically important Neotropical forest pest insects because it attacks valuable timber of the Meliaceae. Despite detailed information on the life cycle of H. grandella, factors influencing attack by the shoot borer are not well known. Electroantannogram studies of borer antennae indicate that both female and male moths elicited significant antennal responses to essential oil of the terminal shoots, mature and senescent leaves, in three concentrations, Himachalene, germacrene D, germacrene A, cadina-l,4-diene, hexadecanoic acid, and ethyl hexadecanoate appeared in all essential oils from Swietenia macrophylla. Germacrene-D and γ-himachalane were also present in the active essential oil of Cedrela odorata and Toona ciliata. These findings suggest that these compounds play a role in attracting H. grandella to oviposit on the leaves of these plants. The GC-EAD of essential oil from S. macrophylla mature leaves to female H. grandella antennae led to the identification of β-caryophyllene as the main constituent responsible for the antennae response.
