Abstract

Nos últimos 30 anos tem-se observado, por parte da sociedade, uma maior preocupação com o uso de agrotóxicos na agricultura. Nesse sentido, a pesquisa tem buscado incansavelmente produtos alternativos, que sejam mais eficientes, baratos e ambientalmente seguros. Dentre as alternativas buscadas, o uso de extratos de plantas tem se mostrado promissor. Nesse sentido, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo testar 48 extratos aquosos e alcoólicos de 18 variedades de pimentas do gênero Capsicum obtidos a partir de sementes, folhas e frutos pelo método de maceração para o controle na inibição de germinação de Hemileia vastatrix e crescimento micelial dos fungos Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, Alternaria sp., Fusarium sp. Colletotrichum gloeosporioides e Phomopsis. Destes, o extrato aquoso, obtido de sementes de Capsicum chinense foi o mais eficiente, controlando todos os fitopatógenos desafiantes, mostrando que esses extratos possuem compostos bioativos possíveis de controlar fungos fitopatogênicos. Lutjanid species exhibit multiple spawning behaviour during an extended spawning season in warm months, asynchronous oocyte development and indeterminate fecundity. Although early studies have contributed to knowledge of the reproductive cycle of many species within the group, they have not considered aspects about the number of cortical alveoli oocyte stage throughout maturity phases along spawning season. The latter aspect is also considered very important to confirm indeterminate fecundity hypothesis. In the present study, were analyzed 154 Brazilian snapper Lutjanus alexandrei female gonads obtained from artisanal fisheries in Pernambuco State (Brazil) between October 2010 and March 2011. Were measured oocyte size frequency distribution for maturity phases (developing, spawning capable and actively spawning), and oocyte development stage (unyolked oocytes, cortical alveoli, primary, secondary and tertiary vitellogenic oocytes and hydrated oocytes), and also the oocyte stage frequency during spawning season. The frequency of cortical alveoli oocyte stage was constantly found in the spawning period (>37%), showing slight variation throughout maturity phases. The absence of gap in the oocyte size frequency distribution between primary and secondary oocyte growth stages during spawning season is a strong indicator of continuous oocyte recruitment from reserve stocks. In addition, co-occurrence of tertiary vitellogenic oocytes, hydrated oocytes, post-ovulatory follicles and yellow-brown bodies in the histological sections of ovaries reinforce indeterminate fecundity hypothesis.

Resumo Os lutjanídeos apresentam um comportamento de desovas parceladas ao longo de uma extensa estação reprodutiva nos meses mais quentes do ano, desenvolvimento assincrônico dos ovócitos e padrão de regulação de fecundidade indeterminado. Embora muitos estudos anteriores tenham contribuído no conhecimento do ciclo reprodutivo das espécies do grupo, não foram considerados os aspectos relacionados ao percentual dos ovócitos em estágio de cortical alveoli entre as fases de maturidade sexual durante a estação reprodutiva. Este último aspecto, considerado importante para confirmação da hipótese de fecundidade do tipo indeterminada. Para isso, no presente trabalho foram analisadas 154 gônadas de fêmeas da baúna de fogo Lutjanus alexandrei obtidas da pesca artesanal em Pernambuco entre o período de outubro de 2010 a março de 2011. Foram mensurados os diâmetros dos ovócitos nas fases de maturidade sexual (desenvolvimento, capaz de desovar e ativamente desovando), e para todos os estágios ovocitários (ovócitos pre-vitelogênicos, cortical alveolar, vitelogênese primária, secundária, terciária e ovócitos hidratados), e avaliada a frequência de ocorrência ao longo do período de desova. O percentual de ovócitos em estágio cortical alveoli permaneceu constante durante o período de reprodutivo (> 37%), apresentando pouca variação entre as fases de maturidade sexual. A ausência de um intervalo na frequência de diâmetro dos ovócitos em crescimento primário e secundário entre todas as fases de maturidade sexual é um forte indicador de recrutamento contínuo de ovócitos do estoque de reserva. Além disso, a presença conjunta de ovócitos em vitelogênese terciária, ovócitos hidratados, folículos pós-ovulatórios e corpos amarelados nos cortes histológicos reforçam a hipótese de fecundidade do tipo indeterminada.

13. Stationary solar concentrating photovoltaic-thermal collector - Cell string layout

Abstract

The aim of this work is to design the cell string layout in stationary concentrating photovoltaic (PV) or hybrid systems (PVT) in order to minimize the effects of both the longitudinal and transversal shading inherent to concentrating collectors. In this paper it is determined the best configuration of a PV string of cells, composed by several modules, by using a simple mathematical model based on the current vs. voltage of the PV cell. The model calculates the power vs. voltage curves of different possible configurations, in order to identify the optimal one according to efficiency and reliability. The company SOLARUS manufactures PVT collectors with cell strings of 38 solar cells connected in series. Solar cells in the concentrated side of the collector are shaded due to the presence of the aluminium frame of the PVT collector. The effects of shading and non-uniform illumination are minimized by including bypass diodes. Each string has 4 modules of bridged cells, each one associated to a bypass diode. In this work, different combinations of string cells in the collector receiver have been simulated using the free circuit simulation package from Linear Technology Corporation (LTSPICE). Test results are provided by SOLARUS to validate the proposed approach. A comparative analysis is presented at the end, showing that the simulation model is an important tool to define the module configurations that achieve the best energy efficiencies of the PVT panel.

Abstract

One of the main advantages of solar concentrating photovoltaic-thermal collectors (C-PVT) is that these systems are all-in-one module type. For this reason, they are associated to less area and material requirements. Nevertheless, these systems require a more complex analysis in order to improve their performances, since the two types of energy conversion are related to the different demands and their cross effects. In the overall analysis, the collector geometry and the used materials for all their components will be crucial to ensure the system reliability. This study presents preliminary work about re-designing the reflector of C-PVT collectors currently produced in the Swedish SME Solarus Sunpower AB with a comparative analysis on an annual basis of the solar radiation that reaches the collector. For the work accomplished, an open-source advanced object-oriented Monte Carlo ray tracing program (Tonatiuh) is used. For low latitudes, two reflector shapes have been selected since they ensure better performances than the current Solarus reflector. These two new designs achieve both the performance and cost-effectiveness objectives: for the same aperture area and for a thinner box, the collector is 7% to 10% more effective and 18% cheaper.

Abstract

Several diseases, such as anthracnose, which are caused by the fungus species Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, negatively affect the cultivation of the cowpea (Vigna unguiculata). This work was conducted to measured the time-course activities and evaluate the possible roles of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and the pathogenesis-related proteins (PR-proteins), peroxidase (POX), β-1,3-glucanase (GLU) and chitinase (CHI), in the resistant (TE97) and susceptible (BR3) cowpea genotypes in response to C. gloeosporioides infection. During infection, the SOD activity was increased, while the CAT activity was decreased in TE97. The APX activity in TE97 was similar to that in BR3 at 12 to 24 after infection (HAI). These data were consistent with the increased production and accumulation of leaf H2O2 within this time period in TE97; the generation of H2O2 was also observed in BR3, but to a lesser extent. The fungal inoculation also induced changes in the PR-proteins analyzed. Overall POX, GLU and CHI activities were higher in the resistant genotype TE97 compared with those in the susceptible genotype BR3. Altogether, these results showed that H2O2 and the PR-proteins play important roles in the interactions of cowpea and C. gloeosporioides.

Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do óleo essencial de folhas de H. coronarium sobre o crescimento in vitro de T. cucumeris e F. oxysporum. Para isto, discos de 5 mm de diâmetro de culturas de isolados de cada fungo foram colocados no centro de placas de Petri de 90 mm de diâmetro, contendo meio batata dextrose ágar (BDA), sendo que, na área periférica das placas, foram dispostos simetricamente quatro discos de papel-filtro cada um com 10µL de óleo essencial, extraído por meio de um sistema de arraste a vapor. Como controle, foram utilizados discos sem o óleo essencial. O delineamento foi inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições de quatro placas. Após 192 horas de cultivo, foram observadas colônias de F. oxysporum com diâmetro médio de 37,4 mm no tratamento com óleo essencial, enquanto que, no controle, o diâmetro médio das colônias foi de 66,4 mm. As colônias de T. cucumeris atingiram 11,9 mm de diâmetro no tratamento com óleo essencial, e cobriram toda a placa no controle. Os resultados obtidos mostram que o óleo essencial de folhas de H. coronarium apresenta ação inibitória sobre o crescimento de F. oxysporum e de T. cucumeris in vitro, o que sugere seu potencial para utilização na agricultura, principalmente nas culturas do feijão e da banana

Abstract

The present study aims to evaluate the potential genotoxic and associated factors among coal miners, divided by degree of exposure. Blood and buccal smears were collected from 158 workers, who actively participate in different activities in coal mining, and 48 individuals living in the same city but do not have participation in coal mining activities (control group). The workers were divided into three different groups, according to the level of contact with coal extraction. A questionnaire intended to identify factors associated with DNA damage was performed in participants. The results regarding oral mucosa micronucleus test showed a significant difference (p < 0.001) of the worker groups 1 and 2 in relation to the control group, where the group 1 has a higher degree of exposure to coal than group 2. For the lymphocyte micronucleus test and comet assay, there was no significant difference between the exposed groups and control group. There is an association between the outcome and the fact of living in the municipality of the mining company and the exposure to radiation in the last 12 months. Besides, the multivariate analysis showed an association of the tail moment with radiation exposure in the last 12 months. Thus, the findings of this study reveal genotoxicity in oral mucosa cells of workers exposed to coal and that workers with higher degree of contact with coal have a more pronounced response. 20. Atividade fungicida do óleo essencial de Piper marginatum L. (PIPERACEAE) sobre Fusarium oxysporum (SCHLECHT) in vitro

Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do óleo essencial de folhas de P. marginatum no crescimento in vitro de colônias de F. oxysporum. Discos de 5 mm de diâmetro de isolados fúngicos foram colocados no centro de placas de Petri de 90 mm de diâmetro, contendo batata dextrose agar. Na área periférica das placas, foram colocados quatro discos de papel filtro contendo 10 μL de óleo essencial, extraído por um sistema de destilação. Como controle experimental, foram utilizados discos sem óleo essencial. Foi utilizado o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições. A cada 24 horas, durante 8 dias, o crescimento fúngico foi avaliado, medindo-se o diâmetro das colônias. Após 92 horas, colônias de F. oxysporum com diâmetro médio de 22,5 mm foram observadas no tratamento com óleo essencial, enquanto no controle o diâmetro médio foi de 69,9 mm. Os resultados mostram que o óleo essencial de folhas de P. marginatum tem efeito inibitório sobre o crescimento in vitro de F. oxysporum.
