Background. Ocular syphilis in patients with HIV is an emerging little-known manifestation of an ancestral disease that along with other sexually transmitted diseases has presented an increase in cases in the last decade. Objective. Describe characteristics of a series with patients living with HIV and diagnosis of ocular syphilis. Retrospective study of 2008-2018 in the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases. Results. A total of 90 patients with diagnosis of HIV and ocular syphilis were included. The average age was 32.2 years, 89 were male, the mean CD4 was 282 (4-921), the mean HIV viral load was 242,000, 61.1% of the cases had more than 200 CD4. 56 patients (62.2%) presented only ocular syphilis and 34 patients (37%) had asymptomatic neurosyphilis. The number of cases hospitalized with ocular syphilis doubled in the last 5 years. The most frequent manifestation was decreased visual acuity in 72 patients (80%), 49 patients (54.4%) had bilateral involvement and the most frequent ophthalmological finding was panuveitis in 29 patients (32.2%). Conclusion. Ocular syphilis is a manifestation of syphilis more frequent in patients with HIV, all patients with HIV and syphilis must undergo ophthalmological examination. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
