Screw dislocation is important not only for understanding plastic deformation of crystals but also for optical and electrical properties of materials. However, characterizations of screw dislocations are still challenging since there is almost no atom distortion when viewed along the dislocation line. Li0.86V0.8O2 cathode materials were prepared by a simple hydrothermal route. The results showed the as-obtained product had a layered hexagonal structure with the Li/V site disorder. The electrochemical tests in the rechargeable lithium batteries presented a capacity fading during the cycling. The crystal structure and local structure of the material during the cycles were also studied by X-ray diffraction and infrared spectrum, which demonstrated the capacity fading during the electrochemical cycling could be attributed to small irreversible structure change in the first charging process, and the loss of the first discharge can be assigned to the short-range disorder of V ions in the oxygen layers.
