Global monitoring of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) has intensified following regulatory efforts aimed at reducing their release. In this context, we compiled over 10,000 POP measurements, reported from 1980 to 2023, to assess the effectiveness of these legislative measures in the global marine environments. While a general decreasing trend in legacy POP concentrations is evident across various maritime regions, highlighting the success of source control measures, the Arctic Ocean and its marginal seas have experienced a rise in POP levels. This increase suggests the northward migration of pollutants via ocean currents from mid-latitude regions to polar areas. Despite global efforts to reduce emissions, the continued transport and accumulation of pollutants to the Arctic regions may have substantial ecological impacts. Addressing these environmental challenges demands a thorough understanding of POP dynamics, including response times, multiphase transport, and biogeochemical cycling. Continued research into these processes is vital to accurately map their distribution and temporal variations within marine systems.

Aim: To assess the global and regional burden of hip fractures associated with type 1 diabetes (T1D) from 1990 to 2021., Materials and Methods: The population attributable fraction was calculated by combining the published risk ratio with T1D prevalence (age ≥ 20 years) from the Global Burden of Disease study to estimate the T1D-associated hip-fracture burden. Trends were assessed using the age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) and estimated annual percentage change (EAPC)., Results: The global incidence of T1D-related hip fractures was 290 180 in 2021 with an ASIR of 3.96 (95% confidence interval: 1.92-5.87) per 100 000 population and a male-to-female ratio of 0.54. At the super-regional level, the highest incidence (204 610) and ASIR (13.09 per 100 000 population; 6.40-25.53) were observed in high-income regions, in particular in Australasia and Western Europe. Notably, Australasia exhibited the highest EAPC, 2.90% in T1D-associated ASIR, followed by East Asia (2.73%). The incidence among those aged 45-64 years grew significantly in 14 regions over the past decade. Nationally, the ASIR increased in 166 countries from 1990 to 2021., Conclusions: High-income regions experienced the greatest burden of T1D-associated hip fracture, while Australasia and East Asia witnessed the largest increase over the last 32 years. Five new sorbicillinoid derivatives, including (±)-aspersorbicillin A [(±)- 1 ], a pair of enantiomers at C-9, and aspersorbicillins B-D ( 2 - 4 ), together with two known analogs ( 5 and 6 ) were isolated from the endophytic fungus Aspergillus aculeatus TE-65L. Their structures including absolute configurations were determined by detailed spectroscopic analyses and electronic circular dichroism calculations. The herbicidal activity of sorbicillinoids on the germ and radicle elongation of various weed types was reported for the first time. Compound 1 displayed significant herbicidal activity against Eleusine indica germ elongation (IC 50 = 28.8 μg/mL), while compound 6 inhibited radicle elongation (IC 50 = 25.6 μg/mL). Both were stronger than those of glyphosate (66.2 and 30.9 μg/mL, respectively). Further transcriptomic and LC-MS/MS metabolomic analysis indicated that 6 induced the transcriptional expressions of genes related to the lignin biosynthetic pathway, resulting in lignin accumulation. Transmission electron microscopy confirmed the cell wall thickening of seeds treated with 6 , suggesting weed growth inhibition. This study reveals new lead compounds for fabricating natural herbicides and expands the agricultural use of sorbicillinoid analogs.

A straightforward copper-catalyzed deborodeuteration of arylboronic acids and borates was achieved, employing the cost-effective deuterium source D 2 O. This protocol demonstrates wide substrate applicability, exceptional deuterium incorporation efficiency, and favorable tolerance for various functional groups. Therefore, this approach offers a mild option for further applications in valuable deuterium molecule synthesis.

Plasma shows distinct metabolomic and proteomic signatures in response to combination therapy with lenvatinib and anti-programmed death-1 (PD-1) antibody in treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Here, we present a protocol for analyzing plasma proteomes from patients with HCC receiving combination therapy. We describe steps for interpreting mass spectrometry data by database searching using MaxQuant and filtering and processing database search outcomes. We then detail procedures for downstream analyses including normalization, differential expression analysis, functional enrichment analysis, correlation analysis, consensus clustering, and survival analysis. Silica (SiO 2 ) shows promise as anode material for lithium-ion batteries due to its low cost, comparable lithium storage discharge potential and high theoretical capacity (approximately 1961 mA h g -1 ). However, it is plagued by issues of low electrochemical activity, low conductivity and severe volume expansion. To address these challenges, we initially coat SiO 2 with CoO, followed by introducing SiO 2 @CoO into graphene sheets to fabricate an anode composite material (SiO 2 @CoO/GS) with uniformly dispersed particles and a 3D graphene wrapped yolk-shell structure. The coating of CoO on SiO 2 converted the negative surface charge of SiO 2 to positive, enabling effective electrostatic interactions between SiO 2 @CoO and graphene oxide sheets, which provided essential prerequisites for synthesizing composite materials with uniformly dispersed particles and good coating effects. Furthermore, the Co-metal formed during the charge-discharge process can act as a catalyst and electron transfer medium, activating the lithium storage activity of SiO 2 and enhancing the conductivity of the electrode, conclusively achieving a higher lithium storage capacity. Ultimately, due to the activation of SiO 2 by Co-metal during cycling and the excellent synergistic effect between SiO 2 @CoO and graphene, SiO 2 @CoO/GS delivers a high reversible capacity of 738 mA h g -1 after 500 cycles at 200 mA g -1 . The product also demonstrates excellent rate performance with a reversible capacity of 206 mA h g -1 at a high specific current of 12.8 A g -1 . Background and Objectives: The common tendinous ring (CTR), also known as the common annular tendon or annulus of Zinn, is a critical anatomic structure located at the convergence of the orbital apex, superior orbital fissure (SOF), optic canal, and the anterior aspect of the lateral sellar compartment. It plays a vital role in both neurosurgical and neuro-ophthalmological interventions. The aim of this study was to delineate the complex 3-dimensional (3D) topography of the CTR and explore its implications for surgical procedures., Methods: Ten formalin-fixed skull base specimens from adult Chinese cadavers were meticulously dissected to investigate the morphology of the CTR, focusing particularly on its relationship with the 4 extraocular rectus tendons, the optic strut, the SOF, and the optic canal. Additional skull base specimens were subjected to 3D surface scanning, computed tomography, and histopathological examinations to deepen our understanding of the CTR's structural complexities., Results: The CTR establishes a spatial, 3D tendinous assembly, encompassing 4 rectus tendons, 2 tendinous connections, and a singular common tendinous root. These components interlink to form a distinctive dual-ring configuration, featuring the optic foramen and the oculomotor foramen. The posterior part of the superior rectus tendon demarcates the common boundary between these 2 foramina. The oculomotor foramen itself serves as the central sector of the SOF. Background: Kidney transplantation is the optimal renal replacement therapy for children with end-stage renal disease; however, delayed graft function (DGF), a common post-operative complication, may negatively impact the long-term outcomes of both the graft and the pediatric recipient. However, there is limited research on DGF in pediatric kidney transplant recipients. This study aims to develop a predictive model for the risk of DGF occurrence after pediatric kidney transplantation by integrating donor and recipient characteristics and utilizing machine learning algorithms, ultimately providing guidance for clinical decision-making., Methods: This single-center retrospective cohort study includes all recipients under 18 years of age who underwent single-donor kidney transplantation at our hospital between 2016 and 2023, along with their corresponding donors. Demographic, clinical, and laboratory examination data were collected from both donors and recipients. Univariate logistic regression models and differential analysis were employed to identify features associated with DGF. Subsequently, a risk score for predicting DGF occurrence (DGF-RS) was constructed based on machine learning combinations. Model performance was evaluated using the receiver operating characteristic curves, decision curve analysis (DCA), and other methods., Results: The study included a total of 140 pediatric kidney transplant recipients, among whom 37 (26.4%) developed DGF. Univariate analysis revealed that high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC), donor after circulatory death (DCD), warm ischemia time (WIT), cold ischemia time (CIT), gender match, and donor creatinine were significantly associated with DGF (P < 0.05). Based on these six features, the random forest model (mtry = 5, 75%p) exhibited the best predictive performance among 97 machine learning models, with the area under the curve values reaching 0.983, 1, and 0.905 for the entire cohort, training set, and validation set, respectively. This model significantly outperformed single indicators. The DCA curve confirmed the clinical utility of this model., Conclusions: In this study, we developed a machine learning-based predictive model for DGF following pediatric kidney transplantation, termed DGF-RS, which integrates both donor and recipient characteristics. Due to the unique photosensitivity of silver compounds, they exhibit good photocatalytic activity as photocatalysts in the degradation of water pollutants. However, silver compounds have poor cycling stability and are prone to decomposition and reaction under light to form metallic silver, which greatly limits their practical application. Herein, a (2-(2-(diphenylphosphaneyl)ethyl)-9-methyl-1.10-phenanthroline (PSNNP)) pincer ligand was designed for stabilizing the central metal. The in situ-formed PSNNP ligand could be readily generated in one pot with the participation of silver halides. The reaction of silver halides with dppeda ( N , N , N ', N '-tetra(diphenylphosphanylmethyl)ethylene diamine) in the presence of dmp (2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline) in acetonitrile afforded complexes Ag 2 X 2 (PSNNP) 2 (complexes 1 , 2 ) (X = Cl, Br). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction shows that the tridentate coordination of the pincer ligand provides strong binding with metal centers and leads to high stability of the pincer metal unit. The removal rate of rhodamine B (RhB) by complexes 1 and 2 can reach up to 100%, demonstrating an excellent photocatalytic degradation performance for organic dyes. The important effect of PSNNP ligands on photocatalytic properties after coordination with central metals was studied through experiments and discrete Fourier transform (DFT) calculations. The photocatalytic reaction mechanism of complexes 1 and 2 was also studied. This result provides an effective pathway for the first synthesis of PSNNP and interesting insights into photocatalytic degradation chemistry.

(±)-Salvicatone A ( 1 ), a C 27 -meroterpenoid featuring a unique 6/6/6/6/6-pentacyclic carbon skeleton with a 7,8,8a,9,10,10a-hexahydropyren-1 ( 6H )-one motif, was isolated from the roots and rhizomes of Salvia castanea Diels f. tomentosa Stib. Its structure was characterized by comprehensive spectroscopic analyses along with computer-assisted structure elucidation, including ACD/structure elucidator and quantum chemical calculations with 1 H/ 13 C NMR and electronic circular dichroism. Biogenetically, compound 1 was constructed from decarboxylation following [4 + 2] Diels-Alder cycloaddition reaction between caffeic acid and miltirone analogue. Bioassays showed that (-)- 1 and (+)- 1 inhibited nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide-induced RAW264.7 macrophage cells with an IC 50 value of 6.48 ± 1.25 and 15.76 ± 5.55 μM, respectively. The structure-based virtual screening based on the pharmacophores in ePharmaLib, as well as the molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations study, implied that (-)- 1 and (+)- 1 may potentially bind to retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptor C to exert anti-inflammatory activities.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignancy with high mortality. Liver resection (LR) is a curative treatment for early-stage HCC, but the prognosis of HCC patients after LR is unsatisfactory because of tumor recurrence. Prognostic prediction models with great performance are urgently needed. The present study aimed to establish a novel prognostic nomogram to predict tumor recurrence in HCC patients after LR., Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 726 HCC patients who underwent LR between October 2011 and December 2016. Patients were randomly divided into the training cohort (n = 508) and the testing cohort (n = 218). The protein expression of 14 biomarkers in tumor tissues was assessed by immunohistochemistry. The nomogram predicting recurrence-free survival (RFS) was established by a multivariate Cox regression analysis model and was evaluated by calibration curves, Kaplan-Meier survival curves, time-dependent areas under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves (AUCs), and decision curve analyses in both the training and testing cohorts., Results: Alpha-fetoprotein [hazard ratio (HR) = 1.013, P = 0.002], portal vein tumor thrombosis (HR = 1.833, P < 0.001), ascites (HR = 2.024, P = 0.014), tumor diameter (HR = 1.075, P < 0.001), E-cadherin (HR = 0.859, P = 0.011), EMA (HR = 1.196, P = 0.022), and PCNA (HR = 1.174, P = 0.031) immunohistochemistry scores were found to be independent factors for RFS. The 1-year and 3-year AUCs of the nomogram for RFS were 0.813 and 0.739, respectively. The patients were divided into the high-risk group and the low-risk group by median value which was generated from the nomogram, and Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that the high-risk group had a shorter RFS than the low-risk group in both the training (P < 0.001) and testing cohorts (P < 0.001)., Conclusions: Our newly developed nomogram integrated clinicopathological data and key gene expression data, and was verified to have high accuracy in predicting the RFS of HCC patients after LR. As heterogeneous photocatalysts that can effectively transform CO 2 to CO, two MOFs with different metal centers, namely, [M(tipe)(H 2 O) 2 ](ClO 4 ) 2 ·solvent (M = Ni named as Ni-MOF and M = Co referred to as Co-MOF ), were synthesized by reactions of 1,1,2,2-tetrakis(4-(imidazole-1-yl)phenyl)ethene (tipe) with the corresponding metal perchlorate. Both Ni-MOF and Co-MOF have 3D structures, in which the metal centers have the same coordination environment with the N 4 O 2 donor set. Driven by visible light, the CO production catalyzed by Co-MOF is 6734.1 μmol g -1 with 45.3% selectivity, and in contrast, Ni-MOF has 4601.3 μmol g -1 CO production with 97.6% selectivity in 5 h. Through photoelectrochemical characterization, DFT calculations, and in situ FT-IR measurements, the photocatalytic CO 2 reduction process catalyzed by Ni-MOF and Co-MOF was investigated. The results show that the metal center of the MOF is crucial for photocatalytic CO 2 reduction. This work offers an innovative approach for controlling the performance of photocatalytic CO 2 reduction through tuning the metal centers of architectures.

Extracellular membrane proteins are crucial for mediating cell attachment, recognition, and signal transduction in the testicular microenvironment, particularly germline stem cells. Cadherin 18 (CDH18), a type II classical cadherin, is primarily expressed in the nervous and reproductive systems. Here, we investigated the expression of CDH18 in neonatal porcine prospermatogonia (ProSGs) and murine spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs). Disruption of CDH18 expression did not adversely affect cell morphology, proliferation, self-renewal, or differentiation in cultured porcine ProSGs, but enhanced cell adhesion and prolonged cell maintenance. Transcriptomic analysis indicated that the down-regulation of CDH18 in ProSGs significantly up-regulated genes and signaling pathways associated with cell adhesion. To further elucidate the function of CDH18 in germ cells, Cdh18 knockout mice were generated, which exhibited normal testicular morphology, histology, and spermatogenesis. Transcriptomic analysis showed increased expression of genes associated with adhesion, consistent with the observations in porcine ProSGs. The interaction of CDH18 with β-catenin and JAK2 in both porcine ProSGs and murine SSCs suggested an inhibitory effect on the canonical Wnt and JAK-STAT signaling pathways during CDH18 deficiency. Collectively, these findings highlight the crucial role of CDH18 in regulating cell adhesion in porcine ProSGs and mouse SSCs. Understanding this regulatory mechanism provides significant insights into the testicular niche.

Unstable cathode/electrolyte interphase and severe interfacial side reaction have long been identified as the main cause for the failure of layered oxide cathode during fast charging and long-term cycling for rechargeable sodium-ion batteries. Here, we report a superionic conductor (Na 3 V 2 (PO 4 ) 3 , NVP) bonding surface strategy for O3-type layered NaNi 1/3 Fe 1/3 Mn 1/3 O 2 (NFM) cathode to suppress electrolyte corrosion and near-surface structure deconstruction, especially at high operating potential. The strong bonding affinity at the NVP/NFM contact interface stabilizes the crystal structure by inhibiting surface parasitic reactions and transition metal dissolution, thus significantly improving the phase change reversibility at high desodiation state and prolonging the lifespan of NFM cathode. Due to the high-electron-conductivity of NFM, the redox activity of NVP is also enhanced to provide additional capacity. Therefore, benefiting from the fast ion transport kinetics and electrochemical Na + -storage activity of NVP, the composite NFM@NVP electrode displays a high initial coulombic efficiency of 95.5 % at 0.1 C and excellent rate capability (100 mAh g -1 at 20 C) within high cutoff voltage of 4.2 V. The optimized cathode also delivers preeminent cyclic stability with ∼80 % capacity retention after 500 cycles at 2 C. Purpose: To investigate the application value of support vector machine (SVM) model based on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) and amide proton transfer- weighted (APTW) imaging in predicting isocitrate dehydrogenase 1(IDH-1) mutation and Ki-67 expression in glioma., Methods: The DWI, DCE and APTW images of 309 patients with glioma confirmed by pathology were retrospectively analyzed and divided into the IDH-1 group (IDH-1(+) group and IDH-1(-) group) and Ki-67 group (low expression group (Ki-67 ≤ 10%) and high expression group (Ki-67 > 10%)). All cases were divided into the training set, and validation set according to the ratio of 7:3. The training set was used to select features and establish machine learning models. The SVM model was established with the data after feature selection. Four single sequence models and one combined model were established in IDH-1 group and Ki-67 group. The receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the model. Validation set data was used for further validation., Results: Both in the IDH-1 group and Ki-67 group, the combined model had better predictive efficiency than single sequence model, although the single sequence model had a better predictive efficiency. In the Ki-67 group, the combined model was built from six selected radiomics features, and the AUC were 0.965 and 0.931 in the training and validation sets, respectively. In the IDH-1 group, the combined model was built from four selected radiomics features, and the AUC were 0.997 and 0.967 in the training and validation sets, respectively., Conclusion: The radiomics model established by DWI, DCE and APTW images could be used to detect IDH-1 mutation and Ki-67 expression in glioma patients before surgery. The patient is a 12-year-old male who has experienced recurrent perianal abscesses for over 10 years, along with recurrent oral ulcers and deformities in the joints of hands and feet. Gastrointestinal endoscopy and capsule endoscopy revealed multiple ulcers in the digestive tract. Combined with his histopathological examinations, the patient was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. Whole exome sequencing and peripheral blood karyotype analysis indicated a karyotype of 47,XY,+8. The patient was treated with a "step-up" strategy. His clinical symptoms were under control, with significant improvement observed during endoscopic examination. This case suggests that early-onset inflammatory bowel disease may have genetic susceptibility, and when accompanied by other multi-system involvement, the possibility of chromosomal abnormalities, such as trisomy 8, should be considered and given due attention.

A large number of pesticides have been widely manufactured and applied, and are released into the environment with negative impact on human health. Pesticides are largely used in densely populated urban environments, in green zones, along roads and on private properties. In order to characterize the potential exposure related health effects of pesticide and their occurrence in the urban environment, 222 pesticides were screened and quantified in 228 road dust and 156 green-belt soil samples in autumn and spring from Harbin, a megacity in China, using GC-MS/MS base quantitative trace analysis. The results showed that a total of 33 pesticides were detected in road dust and green-belt soil, with the total concentrations of 650 and 236 ng/g (dry weight = dw), respectively. The concentrations of pesticides in road dust were significantly higher than that in green-belt soil. Pesticides in the environment were influenced by the seasons, with the highest concentrations of insecticides in autumn and the highest levels of herbicides in spring. In road dust, the concentrations of highways in autumn and spring (with the mean values of 94.1 and 68.2 ng/g dw) were much lower than that of the other road classes (arterial roads, sub-arterial roads and branch ways). Whereas in the green-belt soil, there was no significant difference in the concentration of pesticides between the different road classes. A first risk assessment was conducted to evaluate the potential adverse health effects of the pesticides, the results showed that the highest hazard index (HI) for a single pesticide in dust and soil was 0.12, the hazard index for children was higher than that for adults, with an overall hazard index of less than 1. Landfill leachate contributes significantly to the presence of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in the environment, and is a crucial source of contamination. To examine the occurrence of PPCPs and microbial communities, this study comprehensively investigated the concentrations of PPCPs and the abundance of microorganisms in the leachate from 17 municipal landfills across China. Generally, Lidocaine, Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate-C11, and Triclocarban, which are closely associated with human activities, exhibited a detection frequency of 100 % in the leachate. Driven by consumer demand, analgesic and antipyretic drugs have emerged as the most prominent PPCPs in leachate (accounting for 39.9 %). Notably, the Ibuprofen peaked at 56.3 μg/L. Regarding spatial distribution, the contamination of PPCPs in leachates from the eastern regions of China was significantly higher than that in other regions, owing to the level of economic development and demographic factors. Furthermore, the 16S rRNA results revealed significant differences in microbial communities among the leachates from different areas. Although the impact of PPCPs on microbial communities may not be as significant as that of environmental factors, most positive correlations between PPCPs and microorganisms indicate their potential role in providing nutrients and creating favorable conditions for microbial growth. Lithium (Li) metal is considered a hopeful anode for next-generation Li-ion batteries thanks to its ultra-high theoretical specific capacity, extra-low theoretical density, and low negative potential. However, the uncontrolled growth of Li dendrites and volume fluctuation during plating/stripping processes severely hamper its commercial application. Herein, ZnS seeds sealed in N, P, S co-doped carbon hollow rhombic dodecahedra (ZnS@NPS-C HRD) is fabricated as a superlithiophilic host for Li metal anodes (LMAs) to solve the above problems. In addition, the Li nucleation and deposition mechanism on ZnS@NPS-C HRD is investigated by in situ optical microscopy, ex-situ X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and theoretical calculations. Owing to the synergistic strategy of ZnS seeds-inducing nucleation and Li-limited growth, the as-prepared composite exhibits stability for 300 cycles in asymmetric cells and a long lifespan over 1100 h in symmetric cells. The mutual regulation between hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) and microRNA (miRNA) is involved in the development of many diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, inflammatory disease, and high-risk pregnancy. Abnormal expressions of endogenous H 2 S-producing enzyme and miRNA in tissues and cells often indicate the occurrence of diseases, so the maintenance of their normal levels in the body can mitigate damages caused by various factors. Many studies have found that H 2 S can promote the migration, invasion, and proliferation of cancer cells by regulating the expression of miRNA, while many H 2 S donors can inhibit cancer progression by interfering with the proliferation, apoptosis, cell cycle, metastasis, and angiogenesis of cancer cells. Furthermore, the mutual regulation between H 2 S and miRNA can also prevent cell injury in cardiovascular disease and inflammatory disease through anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, anti-apoptosis, and pro-autophagy. In addition, H 2 S can promote angiogenesis and relieve vasoconstriction by regulating the expression of miRNA, thereby improving fetal growth in high-risk pregnancy. Bimetallic nanomaterial-based systems have been widely utilized across various fields due to their remarkable expandability and flexibility, including nanomedicine, diagnostics, and molecular information technology. Here, we constructed an electrochemical immunosensor using bimetallic gold/silver functionalized carbon spheres (AuAg@CSs) and mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) for the sensitive determination of cytokeratin 19 fragment antigen 21-1 (CYFRA 21-1) and ensuring information protection for textual data. The AuAg@CSs demonstrated exceptional catalytic activity towards hydrogen peroxide, generating a significant current signal. The introduction of CYFRA 21-1 facilitated the binding of MSNs, thereby forming a sandwich-type electrochemical immunosensor that resulted in a notable decrease in current. Notably, the detection limit for CYFRA 21-1 was determined to be 31 fg mL -1 , accompanied by high selectivity. Furthermore, extensive textual information can be encrypted and concealed within the current responses of the electrochemical nanosensing system. By establishing a threshold, these current signals can be represented as a series of binary strings, which can subsequently be segmented into shorter strings. Through information coding methods, these shorter binary strings can be assembled and decrypted, ultimately merging into meaningful textual content. This study promotes the synthesis and multifunctional application of bimetallic nanomaterials, providing innovative solutions to enhance the sensing sensitivity of electrochemical immunosensors and paving the way for advancements in molecular digitization.

As a ubiquitous tire antioxidant, N-(1,3-Dimethyl-butyl)-N'-phenyl-p-phenylene- diamine (6PPD) exists widely in various environmental media and has been detected at high levels in the environment. However, the effects of 6PPD on plants are still poorly understood. In this study, a hydroponic experiment was carried out to investigate the response of white clover (Trifolium repens L.) stressed by 6PPD on physiology and metabolomics. The results indicated that the length of stem and root, as well as biomass were significantly reduced after 500 μg L -1 6PPD treatment. Photosynthetic performances including photosynthetic rate (Pn), stomatal conductance (Gs), intercellular CO 2 concentration (Ci), transpiration rate (Tr) and chlorophyll content of leaves decreased in all treatments except 500 μg L -1 of 6PPD. The malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the shoot of white clover increased by 66.33 % when exposed to 500 μg L -1 of 6PPD compared to control group (CK). Hydrogen peroxide and superoxide anion presented a U-shape trend and began to increase at 500 μg L -1 . Besides, peroxidase and catalase significantly decreased compared to CK after exposure to 500 μg L -1 . Metabolic analysis of clover showed that 6PPD treatment induced changes in 10 metabolic pathways of white clover. Metabolites were significantly down-regulated after exposure to 500 μg L -1 in shoot, while significantly down-regulated in all treatment groups except 500 μg L -1 in root. In this study, we present a series of theoretically designed B2G14G14' molecules, featuring four-membered-ring heterocycles containing boron and heavy group 14 elements (G14 and G14' = Si, Ge, Sn, and Pb). Through the use of density functional theory (DFT), natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis, quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM), and electron localization function (ELF), our studies demonstrate a strong π single bond between the bridgehead G14 and G14' atoms, with minimal participation from a very weak G14-G14' σ bond. Additionally, the nucleus independent chemical shift (NICS), anisotropy of current-induced density (ACID), and adaptive natural density partitioning (AdNDP) analyses definitively establish the presence of both σ-aromaticity and π-aromaticity in these inorganic four-membered heterocyclic neutral molecules.

The spatial constraints imposed by the DNA structure have significant implications for the walking efficiency of three-dimensional DNA walkers. However, accurately quantifying and manipulating steric hindrance remains a challenging task. This study presents a steric hindrance-controlled DNA walker utilizing an enzymatic strand displacement amplification (ESDA) strategy for detecting microRNA-21 (miR-21) with tunable dynamic range and sensitivity. The steric hindrance of the DNA walker was precisely manipulated by varying the length of empty bases from 6.5 Å to 27.4 Å at the end of the track strand and adjusting the volumetric dimensions of the hairpin structure from 9.13 nm 3 to 26.2 nm 3 at the terminus of the single-foot DNA walking strand. This method demonstrated a tunable limit of detection for miR-21 ranging from 3.6 aM to 35.6 nM, along with a dynamic range from ∼100-fold to ∼166 000-fold. Impressively, it exhibited successful identification of cancer cells and clinical serum samples with high miR-21 expression. The proposed novel strategy not only enables tunable detection of miRNA through the regulation of steric hindrance but also achieves accurate and quantitative analysis of the steric hindrance effect, promising broader applications in personalized medicine, early disease detection, and drug development.

Local enrichment of free radicals at the electrode interface may open new opportunities for the development of electrochemiluminescence (ECL) applications. The sensing platform was constructed by assembling ECL-emitting luminol derived carbon dots (Lu CDs) onto the heterojunction Tungsten disulfide/Covalent organic frameworks (WS2@COF) for the first time, establishing a nanoconfinement-reactor with significantly heightened ECL intensity and stability compared to the Lu CDs-H2O2 system. This enhanced performance is credited to the COF domain's restricted pore environment, where WS2@COF exhibits a more negative adsorption energy for H2O2, effectively enriching H2O2 in the catalytic edge sites of WS2. Furthermore, the internal electric field at the WS2 and COF interface accelerates electron flow, boosting WS2's catalytic activity and achieving domain-limited catalytic enhancement of ECL. Self-designed DNA nanomachines combined with cascading molecular keypad locking mechanisms are integrated into the biosensors, effectively guaranteeing the accuracy of the sensing process while providing crucial safeguards for molecular diagnostics and information security applications. In essence, this innovative approach represents the first system to enhance local free radical concentrations by enriching co-reactants on the electrode surface through nanoconfinement catalysis, yielding heightened ECL luminescence intensity. Background: Upper respiratory tract infection (URTI), one of the most common respiratory diseases, has a high annual incidence. Trollius chinensis capsule has been used to treat URTI in China. However, the underlying-mechanisms remain unclear., Methods: Network pharmacology was used to explore the potential mechanism of action of Trollius chinensis capsule in URTI treatment. The active compounds in Trollius chinensis were obtained from the TCMSP, SymMap, and ETCM databases. The TCMSP, PubChem, and SwissTargetPrediction databases were used to predict potential targets of Trollius chinensis. URTI-associated targets were gathered from GeneCards and DisGeNET databases. The key targets and signaling pathways associated with URTI were selected by network topology, GO, and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis. Molecular docking was used to verify the binding activity between active compounds and key targets., Results: Quercetin, pectolinarigenin, beta-sitosterol, acacetin and cirsimaritin are major active compounds in Trollius chinensis capsule. Eighty one candidate therapeutic targets were confirmed to be involved in protection of Trollius chinensis capsule against URTI. Among them, 7 key targets (TP53, IL6, AKT1, CASP3, CXCL8, MMP9, and EGFR) were verified to have good binding affinities to the main active compounds. Furthermore, enrichment analyses suggested that inflammatory response, virus infection and oxidative stress related biological processes and pathways were possibly the potential mechanism., Conclusion: Overall, the present study clarified that quercetin, pectolinarigenin, beta-sitosterol, acacetin and cirsimaritin are proved to be the main effective compounds of Trollius chinensis capsule treating URTI, possibly by acting on the targets of IL6, AKT1, CASP3, CXCL8, MMP9 and EGFR to play anti-infectious, anti-viral, and anti-oxidative effects. Hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S), an endogenous gasotransmitter, plays a key role in several critical physiological and pathological processes in vivo, including vasodilation, anti-infection, anti-tumor, anti-inflammation, and angiogenesis. In colorectal cancer (CRC), aberrant overexpression of H 2 S-producing enzymes has been observed. Due to the important role of H 2 S in the proliferation, growth, and death of cancer cells, H 2 S can serve as a potential target for cancer therapy. In this review, we thoroughly analyzed the underlying mechanism of action of H 2 S in CRC from the following aspects: the synthesis and catabolism of H 2 S in CRC cells and its effect on cell signal transduction pathways; the inhibition effects of exogenous H 2 S donors with different concentrations on the growth of CRC cells and the underlying mechanism of H 2 S in garlic and other natural products. Constructing amorphous/crystalline heterophase structure with high porosity is a promising strategy to effectively tailor the physicochemical properties of electrode materials and further improve the electrochemical performance of supercapacitors. Here, the porous C-doped NiO (C-NiO) with amorphous/crystalline heterophase grown on NF was prepared using NF as Ni source via a self-sacrificial template method. Calcining the self-sacrificial NiC 2 O 4 template at a suitable temperature (400 °C) was beneficial to the formation of porous heterophase structure with abundant cavities and cracks, resulting in high electrical conductivity and rich ion/electron-transport channels. The density functional theory (DFT) calculations further verified that in-situ C-doping could modulate the electronic structure and enhance the OH - adsorption capability. The unique porous amorphous/crystalline heterophase structure greatly accelerated electrons/ions transfer and Faradaic reaction kinetic, which effectively improved the charge storage. The C-NiO calcined at 400 °C (C-NiO (400) ) displayed a markedly enhanced specific charge, outstanding rate property and excellent cycling stability. Furthermore, the hybrid supercapacitor assembled by C-NiO (400) and active carbon achieved a high energy density of 49.0 Wh kg -1 at 800 W kg -1 and excellent cycle stability (90.9 % retention at 5 A/g after 10 000 cycles). Salt-processed Psoraleae Fructus is a commonly used tonic in clinical practice. However, its usage is restricted due to the inherent toxicity. The covalent modification of proteins by reactive metabolites(RMs) plays a role in the hepatotoxicity of salt-processed Psoraleae Fructus. This study delves into the protein covalent modification by RMs generated from psoralen/isopsoralen, the primary toxic components of salt-processed Psoraleae Fructus, by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry(LC-MS), aiming to elucidate the mechanism underlying the hepatic injury induced by salt-processed Psoraleae Fructus. Biochemical methods were utilized to measure the levels of alanine aminotransferase(ALT), aspartate aminotransferase(AST), catalase(CAT), malondialdehyde(MDA), superoxide dismutase(SOD), reduced glutathione(GSH), and glutathione S-transferase(GST) in mice. The pathological changes in the liver were observed by hematoxylin-eosin(HE) staining. Subsequently, ultra performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time-of-flight-mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) was employed to identify the primary toxic components of psoralen/isopsoralen and the RMs in salt-processed Psoraleae Fructus. Covalent bonding adducts of the toxic components/RMs with GSH and free amino acids were identified to investigate the effects of the toxic components on modification sites and patterns of amino acids. The modifications of RMs were incorporated into the variable modifications of Proteome Discoverer, and the target proteins of psoralen/isopsoralen were detected by liquid chromatography-quadrupole exactive-mass spectrometry. Lastly, Label-free quantitative proteomics was adopted to screen differential proteins, which were further subjected to KEGG and GO enrichment analyses and confirmed by qPCR. The results indicated that compared with the control group, salt-processed Psoraleae Fructus significantly elevated the ALT, AST, and MDA levels and lowered the SOD, CAT, GSH, and GST levels in a dose-dependent manner, while causing obvious vacuolization and inflammatory cell infiltration in mouse hepatocytes. Furthermore, the livers of mice in the salt-processed Psoraleae Fructus group showed the presence of five RMs of psoralen/isopsoralen, two adducts with GSH, and one adduct with cysteine. In addition, 10 proteins modified by the RMs of psoralen/isopsoralen were identified. A total of 133 differential proteins were detected in the livers of mice in the salt-processed Psoraleae Fructus group, including 92 with up-regulated expression and 41 with down-regulated expression. These differential proteins mainly involved ribosomes, rRNAs, and glutathione, affecting the proteasome pathway. The qPCR results were consistent with the differential proteins. These findings suggest that the RMs of psoralen/isopsoralen can covalently bind to GSH and modify cysteine and lysine residues of liver proteins. This covalent modification of proteins by harmful substances can potentially result in liver damage. Therefore, it can be inferred that the oxidative stress damage induced by salt-processed Psoraleae Fructus may be associated with the abnormality of proteasome and its complex, biosynthesis of ribosomes and their nucleoprotein complex, rRNA binding, and glutathione binding.

Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the presence of astrocyte antibodies in patients, excluding aquaporin-4 or glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) antibodies, while evaluating associated biomarkers and pathologies., Methods: Patient serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were tested for antibodies using tissue- and cell-based assays. Neurofilament light chain (NFL) and GFAP in the CSF were detected using single-molecule array (SIMOA)., Results: 116 patients accepted SIMOA. Fifteen functional neurological disorders patients without antibodies were designated as controls. Thirty-five patients were positive for astrocyte antibodies (Anti-GFAP: 7; Anti-AQP4: 7; unknown antibodies: 21, designed as the double-negative group, DNAP). The most frequent phenotype of DNAP was encephalitis (42.9%), followed by myelitis (23.8%), movement disorders (19.0%), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis-like (ALS-like) disease (14.2%). The levels of CSF GFAP and NFL in DNAP were higher than in the control (GFAP: 1967.29 [776.60-13214.47] vs 475.38 [16.80-943.60] pg/mL, p < 0.001; NFL: 549.11 [162.08-2462.61] vs 214.18 [81.60-349.60] pg/mL, p = 0.002). GFAP levels decreased in DNAP (n = 5) after immunotherapy (2446.75 [1583.45-6277.33] vs 1380.46 [272.16-2005.80] pg/mL, p = 0.043), while there was no difference in NFL levels (2273.78 [162.08-2462.61] vs 890.42 [645.06-3168.06] pg/mL, p = 0.893). Two brain biopsy patterns were observed: one exhibited prominent tissue proliferation and hypertrophic astrocytes, with local loss of astrocytes, while the other showed severe astrocyte depletion with loss of neurofilaments around the vessels. Eighteen patients received immunotherapy, and improved except one with ALS-like symptoms. We identified anti-vimentin in this patient., Discussion: There are unidentified astrocyte antibodies. Anomalous Hall effect (AHE), one of the most important electronic transport phenomena, generally appears in ferromagnetic materials but is rare in materials without magnetic elements. Here, a study of La 3 MgBi 5 is presented, whose band structure carries multitype Dirac fermions. Although magnetic elements are absent in La 3 MgBi 5 , the signals of AHE can be observed. In particular, the anomalous Hall conductivity is extremely large, reaching 42,356 Ω -1 cm -1 with an anomalous Hall angle of 8.8%, the largest one that has been observed in the current AHE systems. The AHE is suggested to originate from the combination of skew scattering and Berry curvature. Another unique property discovered in La 3 MgBi 5 is the axial diamagnetism. The diamagnetism is significantly enhanced and dominates the magnetization in the axial directions, which is the result of the restricted motion of the Dirac fermion at the Fermi level. These findings not only establish La 3 MgBi 5 as a suitable platform to study AHE and quantum transport but also indicate the great potential of 315-type Bi-based materials for exploring novel physical properties., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Background: Due to the limited role of chronic pain medication in military personnel and the distress caused to the military population, mindfulness-based therapy has been considered for the follow-up treatment of military personnel with chronic pain. The purpose of this review is to explore the effect and the implementation of mindfulness-based therapy for the military population with chronic pain. Methods: The keywords for the search included "mindfulness" AND ("pain" OR "chronic pain") AND ("military" OR "veteran"). The PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases were searched. The Cochrane Collaboration tool was used to independently assess the risk of bias of the included randomized controlled trials, and the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to independently assess the risk of bias of the included case-control studies. Results: A total of 175 papers were identified; 65 duplicates were excluded, and 59 papers that did not meet the inclusion criteria were excluded after reading the titles and abstracts. The remaining 51 papers were read in full, 42 of which did not meet the inclusion criteria. Nine papers met the inclusion criteria and were included in the study. The nine studies included 507 veterans and 56 active-duty female military personnel. All pain interventions were mindfulness-based therapy, and all of them were integrated into or adapted from standard mindfulness courses. The results all showed that after mindfulness-based therapy, the relevant indicators improved. Conclusions: Mindfulness-based therapy is an effective treatment method for the military population with chronic pain. The review indicates that future research should focus on the best setting for mindfulness-based therapy, including the course content and time.

Background: Acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD), which is mainly mediated by allogeneic T cells, is a decisive factor in the success of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HCT). Prophylaxis for aGVHD in clinical patients is unsatisfactory, and there is still a huge unmet need for novel approaches. Icariin (ICA) shows potent anti-inflammatory activity and suppresses T cell-mediated immune responses. Thus, ICA is a potential drug for the prevention of aGVHD. However, there is no data assessing the impact of ICA on aGVHD after allo-HCT., Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of ICA against aGVHD and its mechanisms. Moreover, the impact of ICA on the graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effect and engraftment of donor hematopoietic and immune cells were assessed., Methods: Different murine models of allo-HCT were developed to study the influence of the ICA on GVHD and GVL effect. Flow cytometry was used to analyze the growth of leukemia cells, alterations in different immune cells, and apoptosis. Cell proliferation was determined using a CCK-8 assay. RNA sequencing and quantitative proteomic analysis were performed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms, which were further verified by polymerase chain reaction or functional experiments., Results: Different concentrations of ICA exhibited opposite effects: low-concentration ICA promoted, while high concentrations suppressed the proliferation and function of T cells. A high dose of ICA administration during days +3 to +5 post-allo-HCT can alleviate murine aGVHD but does not affect the course of chronic GVHD (cGVHD), the GVL effect against both acute myeloid and lymphoblastic leukemia, or the recovery of donor hematological and immune cells. ICA extensively represses the expansion, function, and infiltration of donor alloreactive T cells, while preserving regulatory T cells (Tregs) and myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC). Quantitative proteomic analysis showed that downregulation of integrin-linked kinase (ILK) and lymphocyte cytosolic protein 2 (LCP2) expression was possibly associated with ICA-mediated aGVHD protective effects. Furthermore, an inhibitor of ILK, which can alleviate murine aGVHD administered early after allo-HCT., Conclusion: These findings suggest that the bioactivities of ICA are associated with its concentration and that ICA can effectively mitigate aGVHD without losing GVL activity or engraftment of donor hematopoietic and immune cells. Background: Exacerbations are implicated in bronchiectasis and COPD, which frequently co-exist [COPD-Bronchiectasis association (CBA)]. We aimed to determine the bacterial and viral spectrum at stable-state and exacerbation onset of CBA, and their association with exacerbations and clinical outcomes of CBA as compared with bronchiectasis., Methods: We prospectively collected spontaneous sputum from adults with CBA, bronchiectasis with (BO) and without airflow obstruction (BNO) for bacterial culture and viral detection at stable-state and exacerbations., Results: We enrolled 76 patients with CBA, 58 with BO, and 138 with BNO (711 stable and 207 exacerbation visits). Bacterial detection rate increased from BNO, CBA to BO at steady-state (P = 0.02), but not at AE onset (P = 0.91). No significant differences in viral detection rate were found among BNO, CBA and BO. Compared with steady-state, viral isolations occurred more frequently at exacerbation in BNO (15.8 % vs 32.1 %, P = 0.001) and CBA (19.5 % vs 30.6 %, P = 0.036) only. In CBA, isolation of viruses, human metapneumovirus and bacteria plus viruses was associated with exacerbation. Repeated detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) correlated with higher modified Reiff score (P = 0.032) in CBA but not in BO (P = 0.178). Repeated detection of PA yielded a shorter time to the first exacerbation in CBA [median: 4.3 vs 11.1 months, P = 0.006] but not in BO (median: 8.4 vs 7.6 months, P = 0.47)., Conclusions: Isolation of any viruses, human metapneumovirus and bacterialplus viruses was associated with CBA exacerbations. Background: This study aimed to assess the early- and mid-term outcomes of aortic root repair and replacement, and to provide evidence to improve root management in acute type A aortic dissection (AAAD)., Methods: This study enrolled 455 patients who underwent AAAD root repair (n = 307) or replacement (n = 148) between January 2016 and December 2017. Inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) method was used to control for treatment selection bias. The primary outcomes were in-hospital mortality, mid-term survival, and proximal aortic reintervention., Results: The success rate of root repair was 99.7%. The in-hospital mortality in the conservative root repair (CRR) and aggressive root replacement (ARR) were 8.1% and 10.8%. The median follow-up time was 67.76 months (IQR, 67-72 months). After adjusting for baseline factors, there was no significant differences in mid-term survival (p = .750) or the proximal aortic reintervention rate (p = .550) between the two groups. According to Cox analysis, age, hypertension, severe aortic regurgitation, CPB time, and concomitant CABG were all factors associated with mid-term mortality. We updated to December 2023 the main findings of the stomach cancer pooling (StoP) project including about 13 000 cases and 31 000 controls from 29 case-control and 5 nested studies. The StoP project quantified more precisely than previously available the positive associations of tobacco smoking, high alcohol consumption, meat intake, selected occupations (e.g. agricultural and miners), gastric ulcer and family history with gastric cancer and the inverse associations with socioeconomic status and selected aspects of diet (fruits, including citrus fruits, vegetables, including allium and mushrooms, and polyphenols). Background: There is a shortage of reliable predictive models to provide valuable prognostic information for early esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) without lymph node metastasis (LNM). We aimed to develop and validate a nomogram using the prognostic factors in T1N0 ESCC patients., Methods: Patients with pathological T1N0 ESCC who underwent esophagectomy between 2014 and 2021 at three institutes were reviewed. The prognostic factors were evaluated by Cox proportional hazards model and a nomogram was developed. Patients were divided into high- and low-risk groups based on cut-off value of total points in the nomogram. Overall survival (OS) was estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method and compared using the log-rank test., Results: A total of 275 patients were included and split into training (n=180) and external validation (n=95) cohorts. In the training cohort, multivariable analysis showed that the surgical approach, T1 substage, and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) level were independent prognostic factors. The developed nomogram had relatively high performance, with the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) of 0.783, 0.711 and 0.612 for 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS, respectively. The calibration curves showed that the predicted probability was in good agreement with the actual probability. Forty-seven was determined as cut-off value of total points. High-risk group (n=148) showed a significant poor OS than low-risk group (n=127) (P<0.001)., Conclusions: Left surgical approach, stage T1b, and higher CEA were associated with poorer prognosis in T1N0 ESCC patients. The traditional preparation method of ratiometric probes faces challenges such as cumbersome preparation and low sensitivity. Thus, there is an urgent need to provide a simple method of preparing a highly sensitive ratiometric probe. Here, Eu 3+ -doped zinc-based organic framework (Eu/Zn-MOF) was prepared through hydrothermal method for the detection of tetracycline analogs (TCs). Under the same excitation conditions, the probe can simultaneously display valuable fluorescence and second-order scattering signals. The developed probe enabled specific identification and fast detection (1 min) of TCs, including tetracycline, oxytetracycline, doxycycline, and chlortetracycline. The linear detection ranges of tetracycline, oxytetracycline, doxycycline and chlortetracycline were respectively 100 nM - 200 μM, 100 nM - 200 μM, 98 nM - 195 μM, and 97 nM - 291 μM, and the corresponding detection limits were respectively 15.79 nM, 20.83 nM, 15.31 nM, and 28.30 nM. The developed sensor was successfully applied to detect TCs in real samples, and the recovery rate was from 92.54 % to 109.69 % and the relative standard deviation was from 0.04 % to 2.97 %. Moreover, the heterometallic Eu/Zn-MOF was designed as a ratiometric neuron for Boolean logic computing and information encryption based on the specific identification of TCs. As a proof of concept, molecular steganography was successfully employed to encode, store, and conceal information by transforming the specific identification patterns of Eu/Zn-MOF into binary strings. Mushroom poisoning is a significant contributor to foodborne disease outbreaks in China. This study focuses on two Panaeolus subbalteatus poisoning incidents accompanied by epidemiological investigations, species identification, and toxin detection in Ningxia, northwest China. In these two poisoning incidents, some patients exhibited gastrointestinal or neurological symptoms approximately 0.5 h after ingestion of a large amount of wild mushroom. Specifically, in Case 1, one of the three patients experienced nausea, vomiting, and numbness in the throat and limbs; in Case 2, one patient reported dizziness and an abnormal sense of direction. Through morphological and phylogenetic analyses, mushroom specimens were identified as P. subbalteatus. Psilocybin and psilocin were detected in mushroom samples, and only psilocin was detected in biological samples by liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole-linear ion trap mass spectrometry screening. The average psilocybin and psilocin contents in mushroom samples were 1532.2-1760.7 and 114.5-136.0 mg/kg (n = 3), respectively. Moreover, only psilocin was detected in blood and urine samples, with average concentrations 0.5-1.2 ng/mL (n = 3) and 2.5-3.1 ng/mL (n = 3), respectively. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the influence of fentanyl on the effective dose of remimazolam-induced sedation in elderly female patients undergoing general anesthesia., Patients and Methods: Sixty female patients aged 65-80 years undergoing selective general anesthesia were randomized into two groups: Group R+F received an initial dose of remimazolam (7.5 mg) with fentanyl (1 μg/kg), while Group R received remimazolam alone. Dosing adjustments (±2.5 mg) were made based on the response of the preceding patient using the up-and-down allocation technique. The ED50 and ED95 were calculated using a sequential formula and probit regression. Probit regression was also used to assess the relative potency of remimazolam between groups. Sedation levels were evaluated using the Modified Observer's Assessment of Alertness/Sedation (MOAA/S) scale., Results: The ED50 for remimazolam was significantly lower in Group R+F compared to Group R ( p = 0.007). Probit regression estimated the ED50 and ED95 values for Group R+F at 4.878 mg (95% CI, 3.845-5.859) and 8.184 mg (95% CI, 6.636-13.546), respectively. In contrast, Group R demonstrated ED50 and ED95 values of 6.733 mg (95% CI, 5.533-8.068) and 11.298 mg (95% CI, 9.101-19.617), respectively., Conclusion: This study provides compelling evidence that the administration of 1 μg/kg of fentanyl significantly reduces the required sedative dose of remimazolam by approximately 30% during induction in elderly patients. Addressing the challenge of constructing multi-substituted dihydropyrans, we present an efficient synthesis method for oxygen-containing heterocycles. Using thiones and metal carbenes, we employed xanthate and triazole to intramolecularly synthesize dihydropyran or dihydrofuran compounds. 1,2-Hydride migration was inhibited, and thiodihydropyrans were obtained in excellent yields. A mechanism proceeding through a Rh-carbene intermediate is proposed for the multi-substituted dihydropyrans synthesis.

Gynostemma pentaphyllum has been used as an herbal tea, vegetable, and dietary supplement for hundreds of years in East Asia. The sweet variety, grown in large areas in Fujian Province, China, is an essential source of "Jiaogulan" herbal tea. However, its sweet components are unknown. To investigate the sweet constituents of Fujian "Jiaogulan" and discover new natural high-potency sweeteners, phytochemical and sensory evaluations were combined to obtain 15 saponins, of which 11 ( 1 - 11 ) were sweet-tasting, including 2 new ones with sweetness intensities 20-200 times higher than that of sucrose, and four ( 12 - 15 ) were bitter-tasting. Their structures were elucidated using spectroscopic methods (NMR, MS, IR, UV), hydrolysis, and comparison with literature data. The contents of the 15 saponins were quantitatively analyzed using UPLC-MS/MS in multiple reaction monitoring mode. The contents of 1 and 2 sweet-tasting gypenosides were 9.913 ± 1.735 and 35.852 ± 1.739 mg/kg, respectively. The content of the sweetest compound ( 6 ) was 124.969 ± 0.961 mg/kg. Additionally, compound 4 was the most abundant sweet component (422.530 ± 3.702 mg/kg). Furthermore, molecular docking results suggested interactions of sweet saponins with sweet taste receptors. In general, this study revealed the material basis of the Fujian "Jiaogulan" taste.

Objective: Both 5:2 IF diet (intermittent fasting) and daily caloric restriction eating had been suggested for management of MAFLD (Metabolic-Associated Fatty Liver Disease), this study aimed to evaluate the effects of 5:2 IF diet on body weight and metabolic parameters in adults with MAFLD, in comparison to daily caloric restriction eating., Methods: This single-center, double-blind, prospective, randomized controlled trial included 60 patients with MAFLD, who were administered either a 5:2 IF diet limited calories consumed for 2 days each week with no restrictions on the remaining 5 (Group 5:2 IF diet) or a daily calorie restriction eating (Group daily calorie restriction). Fibrotouch-B instrument assessment, ultrasound assessment of hepatic steatosis, anthropometric indices and body composition analysis, blood sample measurements were conducted during two distinct visits: initially on the day of study commencement (T1), and subsequently at the conclusion of the 12-week intervention period (T2)., Results: In comparison to daily calorie restriction eating, the 5:2 IF diet significantly decreased the proportion of hepatic steatosis ≥moderate (29.6% vs. 59.3%, p  = 0.028) and the degree of hepatic fibrosis F  ≥ 2 (3.7% vs. 25.9%, p  = 0.05), and fewer percentage of patients were diagnosed with fatty liver via upper abdominal ultrasound in the 5:2 intermittent fasting diet group (33.3% vs. 63.0%, p  = 0.029). Additionally, the CAP (controlled attenuation parameter) and LSM (liver stiffness measurements) value were significantly lower in the 5:2 IF diet group ( p  < 0.05). No statistically significant differences were observed between the two groups in terms of weight, BMI (body mass index), WC (waist circumference), HC (hip circumference), and WHR (waist to hip ratio). Similarly, there were no significant differences in lipid profile, glycemic indices and adverse events ( p  > 0.05)., Conclusion: In summary, although both 5:2 IF diet and daily caloric restriction eating achieved similar effect on body weight, liver enzymes, lipid profile and glycemic indices after 12 weeks treatment, 5:2 IF diet demonstrates better improvement in fibrosis and steatosis scores independently from weight regulation. Widely used antioxidants can enter the environment via urban stormwater systems and form disinfection byproducts (DBPs) during chlorination in downstream drinking water processes. Herein, we comprehensively investigated the occurrence of 39 antioxidants from stormwater runoff to surface water. After a storm event, the concentrations of the antioxidants in surface water increased by 1.4-fold from 102-110 ng/L to 128-139 ng/L. Widespread antioxidants during the stormwater event could transform into toxic DBPs during disinfection. Moreover, the yields of trihalomethanes, haloacetaldehydes, haloacetonitriles (HANs), and halonitromethanes during the chlorination of widely used antioxidants considerably increased with an increasing chlorine dose and contact time. Specifically, the yields of dichloroacetonitrile during the chlorination of diphenylamine (DPA) and N -(1,3-dimethylbutyl)- N '-phenyl- p -phenylenediamine (6PPD) were higher than those of most reported amino acid precursors, indicating that DPA and 6PPD might be important precursors of HANs. Exploring the intermediates using GC × GC-time-of-flight high-resolution mass spectrometry helped reveal potential pathways from DPA to HANs, whose formation could be attributed to the intermediate carbazole and indole moieties detected in this study. This study provides insights into the transport and transformation of commonly used antioxidants in a water environment and during water treatment processes, highlighting the potential risks of anthropogenic pollutants from a DBP perspective.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of cancer-associated death globally. Liver transplantation (LT) has emerged as a key treatment for patients with HCC, and the Milan criteria have been adopted as the cornerstone of the selection policy. To allow more patients to benefit from LT, a number of expanded criteria have been proposed, many of which use radiologic morphological characteristics with larger and more tumors as surrogates to predict outcomes. Other groups developed indices incorporating biological variables and dynamic markers of response to locoregional treatment. These expanded selection criteria achieved satisfactory results with limited liver supplies. In addition, a number of prognostic models have been developed using clinicopathological characteristics, imaging radiomics features, genetic data, and advanced techniques such as artificial intelligence. These models could improve prognostic estimation, establish surveillance strategies, and bolster long-term outcomes in patients with HCC. In this study, we reviewed the latest findings and achievements regarding the selection criteria and post-transplant prognostic models for LT in patients with HCC.

Background: Aspirin and statins have been suggested to have potential chemopreventive effects against gastric cancer (GC), although the results of previous studies have been inconsistent. This study therefore aimed to investigate the association between the use of aspirin and statins and GC., Methods: A pooled analysis of seven case-control studies within the Stomach Cancer Pooling Project, including 3220 cases and 9752 controls, was conducted. Two-stage modeling analyses were used to estimate the association between aspirin and statin use and GC after adjusting for potential confounders., Results: The pooled odds ratio (OR) of GC for aspirin users versus nonusers was 0.72 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.54-0.95). The protective effect of aspirin appeared stronger in individuals without a GC family history (OR, 0.60; 95% CI, 0.37-0.95), albeit with borderline heterogeneity between those with and without a family history (p = .064). The OR of GC decreased with increasing duration of aspirin use, with an OR of 0.41 (95% CI, 0.18-0.95) for durations of ≥15 years. An inverse, nonsignificant association with the risk of GC was observed for the use of statins alone (OR, 0.79; 95% CI, 0.52-1.18)., Conclusions: These findings suggest that aspirin use, particularly long-term use, is associated with a reduced risk of GC, whereas a similar association was not observed with statins, possibly because of the low frequency of use., (© 2024 The Author(s). The tea tussock moth is a pest that damages tea leaves, affecting the quality and yield of tea and causing huge economic losses. The efficient asymmetric total synthesis of the sex pheromone of the tea tussock moth was achieved using commercially available starting materials with a 25% overall yield in 11 steps. Moreover, the chiral moiety was introduced by Evans' template and the key C-C bond construction was accomplished through Julia-Kocienski olefination coupling. The synthetic sex pheromone of the tea tussock moth will facilitate the subsequent assessment and implementation of pheromones as environmentally friendly tools for pest management.

In recent years, the impact of age-related diseases on human health has become increasingly severe, and developing effective drugs to deal with these diseases has become an urgent task. Considering the essential regulatory role of hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) in these diseases, it is regarded as a promising target for treatment. H 2 S is a novel gaseous transmitter involved in many critical physiological activities, including anti-oxidation, anti-inflammation, and angiogenesis. H 2 S also regulates cell activities such as cell proliferation, migration, invasion, apoptosis, and autophagy. These regulatory effects of H 2 S contribute to relieving and treating age-related diseases. CO 2 -to-high value-added chemicals via a photocatalytic route is of interest but strangled by the low efficiency. Herein, a novel Fe-TiO 2-x /TiO 2 S-scheme homojunction was designed and constructed by using a facile surface modification approach whereby oxygen vacancy (OV) and Fe introducing on the TiO 2 nanorod surface. The as-synthesized Fe-TiO 2-x /TiO 2 S-scheme homojunction exhibits positive properties on promoting photocatalytic CO 2 reduction: i) the nanorod structure provides numerous active sites and a radical charge transfer path; ii) the doped Fe and OV not only synergistically enhance light utilization but also promote CO 2 adsorption; iii) the Fe-TiO 2-x /TiO 2 S-scheme homojunction benefits photoexcited charge separation and retains stronger redox capacity. Thanks to those good characters, the Fe-TiO 2-x /TiO 2 homojunction exhibits superior CO 2 reduction performances with optimized CO/CH 4 generation rates of 122/22 μmol g -1 h -1 which exceed those of pure TiO 2 by more than 9.4/7.3 folds and most currently reported catalytic systems.
