Abstract Background Visceral adipose tissue in individuals with obesity is an independent cardiovascular risk indicator. However, it remains unclear whether adipose tissue influences common cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis, through its secreted exosomes. Methods The exosomes secreted by adipose tissue from diet-induced obesity mice were isolated to examine their impact on the progression of atherosclerosis and the associated mechanism. Endothelial apoptosis and the proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) within the atherosclerotic plaque were evaluated. Statistical significance was analyzed using GraphPad Prism 9.0 with appropriate statistical tests. Results We demonstrate that adipose tissue-derived exosomes (AT-EX) exacerbate atherosclerosis progression by promoting endothelial apoptosis, proliferation, and migration of VSMCs within the plaque in vivo. MicroRNA-132/212 (miR-132/212) was detected within AT-EX cargo. Mechanistically, miR-132/212-enriched AT-EX exacerbates palmitate acid-induced endothelial apoptosis via targeting G protein subunit alpha 12 and enhances platelet-derived growth factor type BB-induced VSMC proliferation and migration by targeting phosphatase and tensin homolog in vitro. Importantly, melatonin decreases exosomal miR-132/212 levels, thereby mitigating the pro-atherosclerotic impact of AT-EX. Conclusion These data uncover the pathological mechanism by which adipose tissue-derived exosomes regulate the progression of atherosclerosis and identify miR-132/212 as potential diagnostic and therapeutic targets for atherosclerosis. Abstract The absence of catalytic asymmetric methods for synthesizing chiral (hetero)bicyclo[n.1.1]alkanes has hindered their application in new drug discovery. Here we demonstrate the achievability of an asymmetric polar cycloaddition of bicyclo[1.1.0]butane using a chiral Lewis acid catalyst and a bidentate chelating bicyclo[1.1.0]butane substrate, as exemplified by the current enantioselective formal (3 + 3) cycloaddition of bicyclo[1.1.0]butanes with nitrones. In addition to the diverse bicyclo[1.1.0]butanes incorporating an acyl imidazole group or an acyl pyrazole moiety, a wide array of nitrones are compatible with this Lewis acid catalysis, successfully assembling two congested quaternary carbon centers and a chiral aza-trisubstituted carbon center in the pharmaceutically important hetero-bicyclo[3.1.1]heptane product with up to 99% yield and >99% ee.

Abstract Objective To retrospectively analyze and assess the long-term effectiveness of robotic navigation and traditional closed reduction internal fixation in the treatment of Delbet type II femoral neck fracture in children. Methods A total of fifty-five patients diagnosed with pediatric Delbet type II femoral neck fracture, who were admitted to Foshan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine between January 2018 and June 2022, were included in this study. Among them, 22 cases of nailing under robotic navigation were set as the observation group, and 33 cases of nailing under fluoroscopy of the C-arm machine were set as the control group. All patients had their femoral neck fractures closed and repositioned first. After confirming the satisfactory fracture repositioning under the fluoroscopic view of the C-arm machine, internal fixation was performed by inserting hollow compression screws in the corresponding surgical way.A comparative analysis was conducted between the two groups to assess the disparity in the amount of X-ray exposure during surgery, the number of guide pins inserted, and the duration of the surgical procedure. The quality of comparative fracture reduction was assessed according to the Haidukewych criteria on the first postoperative hip X-ray, and the parallelism and distribution of the comparative screws were measured. The incidence of hip function and postoperative complications according to the Ratliff criteria were evaluated between each of the subgroups at the final follow-up. Results Comparison of general information, operation duration, and quality of fracture reduction between the two groups failed to reveal statistically significant results (P > 0.05). The observation group had a lower number of X-ray exposures and guide pin placements compared to the control group, and this difference was statistically significant (P 0.05). Conclusion Closed reduction and internal fixation under orthopedic robot navigation can achieve better long-term efficacy in treating Delbet type II femoral neck fracture in children.

Abstract Background The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare and evaluate the stress distribution of maxillary first premolar residual crowns restored with post-core crowns, endocrowns and inlay crowns after deep margin elevation, to explore the fitting restoration for residual crowns using finite element analysis. Methods A healthy complete right maxillary first premolar from a male adult was scanned by cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). The finite element model of the tooth was established by reverse engineering software such as Mimics, Geomagic and Hypermesh. On this basis, the residual crown model after deep margin elevation was made, and the experimental group models were divided into three groups, those restored with post core crowns, endocrowns and inlay crowns. Vertical and oblique static loads were applied to the experimental models to simulate the force on the tooth during mastication (the loading position was located in the central fossa of the occipital surface, and the load was 100 N) using Abaqus software. Results The peak value and distribution of von Mises stress in each part of the experimental model were observed. After deep margin elevation, the peak dentin von Mises stresses were lower than the tensile strength of normal dentin in the post-core crown, endocrown, and inlay crown groups; the lowest stress results were found in the post-core crown group for the dentin, restoration, enamel, and deep margin elevation (DME) layers under vertical and oblique loading. In terms of stress distribution clouds, the peak stresses in the dentin tissue were located in the apical 1/3 of the root after postcore crown restorations for both loads, while stress concentrations were evident in the cervical and root areas after endocrown and inlay crown restorations; regardless of the load and restoration method, the corresponding stress concentration areas appeared at the junction of the DME and dentin tissue at the loading site of the restorations; Conclusions Post-core crowns, endocrowns and inlay crowns can be used to restore residual crowns after deep margin elevation, and post-core crowns can better protect the residual tooth tissue.

Abstract Background Transport injuries (TI) remains one of leading causes of death in children in China. This study aimed to analyze the temporal trend of disease burden and associated risk factors of TI among children aged 0–14 years in China, utilizing data from 1990 to 2019. Methods We retrieved data of disease burden and risk factors of TI among children aged 0–14 year in China from 1990 to 2019 from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) dataset. We estimated incidence rate, death rate, and disability adjusted life years (DALYs) rate with a 95% uncertainty interval (95% UI), stratified by age, sex, and all type-road users. Abstract Cations such as K+ play a key part in the CO2 electroreduction reaction, but their role in the reaction mechanism is still in debate. Here, we use a highly symmetric Ni-N4 structure to selectively probe the mechanistic influence of K+ and identify its interaction with chemisorbed CO2 −. Our electrochemical kinetics study finds a shift in the rate-determining step in the presence of K+. Spectral evidence of chemisorbed CO2 − from in-situ X-ray absorption spectroscopy and in-situ Raman spectroscopy pinpoints the origin of this rate-determining step shift. Grand canonical potential kinetics simulations - consistent with experimental results - further complement these findings. We thereby identify a long proposed non-covalent interaction between K+ and chemisorbed CO2 −. This interaction stabilizes chemisorbed CO2 − and thus switches the rate-determining step from concerted proton electron transfer to independent proton transfer. Consequently, this rate-determining step shift lowers the reaction barrier by eliminating the contribution of the electron transfer step. This K+-determined reaction pathway enables a lower energy barrier for CO2 electroreduction reaction than the competing hydrogen evolution reaction, leading to an exclusive selectivity for CO2 electroreduction reaction.

Abstract Background Immunosurveillance is pivotal in the effectiveness of anticancer therapies and tumor control. The ineffectiveness of cisplatin in activating the immunosurveillance is attributed to its lack of adjuvanticity resulting from its inability to stimulate endoplasmic reticulum stress. Dihydroartemisinin demonstrates the anti-tumor effects through various mechanisms, including the activation of the endoplasmic reticulum stress. This study aimed to develop a novel strategy to enhance the immunogenicity of dying tumor cells by combining cisplatin with dihydroartemisinin, thereby triggering effective anti-tumor immunosurveillance and improving the efficacy of cisplatin in clinical practice. Methods Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) and CT26 colon cancer cell lines and subcutaneous tumor models were used in this study. The importance of immunosurveillance was validated in both immunocompetent and immunodeficient mouse models. The ability of dihydroartemisinin and cisplatin therapy to induce immunogenic cell death and tumor growth control in vivo was validated by prophylactic tumor vaccination and therapeutic tumor models. The underlying mechanism was elucidated through the pharmaceutical or genetic intervention of the PERK/eIF2α pathway in vitro and in vivo. Results Dihydroartemisinin enhanced the generation of reactive oxygen species in cisplatin-treated LLC and CT26 cancer cells. The combination treatment of dihydroartemisinin with cisplatin promoted cell death and ensured an optimal release of damage-associated molecular patterns from dying cancer cells, promoting the phagocytosis of dendritic cells. In the tumor vaccination model, we confirmed that dihydroartemisinin plus cisplatin treatment induced immunogenic cell death. Utilizing immunocompetent and immunodeficient mouse models, we further demonstrated that the combination treatment suppressed the tumor growth of CT26 colon cancer and LLC lung cancer, leading to an improved prognosis through the restoration of cytotoxic T lymphocyte responses and reinstatement of anti-cancer immunosurveillance in vivo. Mechanistically, dihydroartemisinin restored the immunogenicity of cisplatin by activating the adjuvanticity of damage-associated molecular patterns, such as calreticulin exposure, through the PERK/eIF2α pathway. Additionally, the inhibition of eIF2α phosphorylation attenuated the anti-tumor efficiency of C + D in vivo. Conclusions We highlighted that dihydroartemisinin acts as an immunogenic cell death rescuer for cisplatin, activating anticancer immunosurveillance in a PERK/eIF2α-dependent manner and offering a strategy to enhance the anti-tumor efficacy of cisplatin in clinical practice.

Abstract Internet of Things (IoT) technologies are widely recognized as one of the most important infrastructures for economic development and technological innovation. By analyzing the influencing factors of vegetable farmers’ intention to adopt agricultural IoT, it helps to formulate effective IoT promotion policies and accelerate the realization of agricultural modernization. Based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) and the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) theory, this study constructed for the first time a mechanism model of the influence of vegetable farmers’ intention to adopt IoT, expanding the scope of current research on agricultural IoT and revealing the intrinsic influence mechanism of farmers’ adoption of IoT technologies. In this study, 357 quantitative data were obtained by a questionnaire survey, and structural equation modeling was used to test the direct and indirect effects of each factor on vegetable farmers’ intention to adopt IoT. The results show that almost all variables in TOE have significant direct impacts on the intention, while no variables in UTAUT have significant direct impacts. Among variables in TOE, government support and complexity are the two most important elements influencing the intention. Although the interactions among variables in TOE and UTAUT are also found, the indirect effects of variables are non-significant. Therefore, it is proposed to reduce the complexity of operation and use of IoT technologies; improve rural information infrastructure and compatibility of IoT platforms and devices; and governments should increase subsidies, and incentives to promote the use of IoT in agriculture and agricultural practices.

Abstract Lung cancer is the most common oncological disease worldwide, with non-small cell lung cancer accounting for approximately 85% of lung cancer cases. α-Hederin is a monodesmosidic triterpenoid saponin isolated from the leaves of Hedera helix L. or Nigella sativa and has been extensively studied for its antitumor activity against a variety of tumor cells. It has been suggested that α-Hederin is a potential regulator of autophagy and has high promise for application. However, the specific mechanism and characteristics of α-Hederin in regulating autophagy are not well understood. In this study, we confirmed the potential of α-Hederin application in lung cancer treatment and comprehensively explored the mechanism and characteristics of α-Hederin in regulating autophagy in lung cancer cells. Our results suggest that α-Hederin is an incomplete autophagy inducer that targets mTOR to activate the classical autophagic pathway, inhibits lysosomal acidification without significantly affecting the processes of autophagosome transport, lysosome biogenesis, autophagosome and lysosome fusion, and finally leads to impaired autophagic flux and triggers autophagic damage in NSCLC.

Abstract Background Wearing hip protectors is a measure used to prevent hip fractures caused by falls. However, its protective effect has remained controversial in previous studies. This study provides a rationale for the use of hip protectors by pooling all the current meta-analysis evidence. Methods We conducted an umbrella review of all the current meta-analysis articles about the efficacy of hip protectors to reduce hip fractures and falls in communities and/or institutions. Major databases including EMBASE, Cochrane Library, PubMed and Web of Science, were searched up to June 2022. Two reviewers screened the studies, extracted the data, and conducted the methodological quality assessment independently. The primary outcome was the association statistic (odds ratio (OR), relative risk (RR), etc.) reported in the meta-analysis that quantified the influence of the intervention on hip fractures and falls compared to that of the control group. Narrative synthesis was also conducted. Forest plots and the AMSTAR score were used to describe the results and quality of the pooled literature, respectively. Results A total of six meta-analysis articles were included in the study. Abstract Background Low concentrations of S100B have neurotrophic effects and can promote nerve growth and repair, which plays an essential role in the pathophysiological and histopathological alterations of major depressive disorder (MDD) during disease development. Studies have shown that plasma S100B levels are altered in patients with MDD. In this study, we investigated whether the plasma S100B levels in MDD differ between genders. Methods We studied 235 healthy controls (HCs) (90 males and 145 females) and 185 MDD patients (65 males and 120 females). Plasma S100B levels were detected via multifactor assay. The Mahalanobis distance method was used to detect the outliers of plasma S100B levels in the HC and MDD groups. The Kolmogorov–Smirnov test was used to test the normality of six groups of S100B samples. The Mann–Whitney test and Scheirer-Ray-Hare test were used for the comparison of S100B between diagnoses and genders, and the presence of a relationship between plasma S100B levels and demographic details or clinical traits was assessed using Spearman correlation analysis. Results All individuals in the HC group had plasma S100B levels that were significantly greater than those in the MDD group. In the MDD group, males presented significantly higher plasma S100B levels than females. In the male group, the plasma S100B levels in the HC group were significantly higher than those in the MDD group, while in the female group, no significant difference was found between the HC and MDD groups. In the male MDD subgroup, there was a positive correlation between plasma S100B levels and years of education. In the female MDD subgroup, there were negative correlations between plasma S100B levels and age and suicidal ideation. Conclusions In summary, plasma S100B levels vary with gender and are decreased in MDD patients, which may be related to pathological alterations in glial cells.

Abstract Objectives The aim of the study is to assess the efficacy of the established computed tomography (CT)-based radiomics nomogram combined with radiomics and clinical features for predicting muscle invasion status in bladder cancer (BCa). Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted using data from patients who underwent CT urography at our institution between May 2018 and April 2023 with urothelial carcinoma of the bladder confirmed by postoperative histology. There were 196 patients enrolled in all, and each was randomized at random to either the training cohort (n = 137) or the test cohort (n = 59). Eight hundred fifty-one radiomics features in all were retrieved. For feature selection, the significance test and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) approaches were utilized. Subsequently, the radiomics score (Radscore) was obtained by applying linear weighting based on the selected features. The clinical and radiomics model, as well as radiomics-clinical nomogram were all established using logistic regression. Three models were evaluated using analysis of the receiver operating characteristic curve. An area under the curve (AUC) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) as well as specificity, sensitivity, accuracy, negative predictive value, and positive predictive value were included in the analysis. Radiomics-clinical nomogram’s performance was assessed based on discrimination, calibration, and clinical utility. Results After obtaining 851 radiomics features, 12 features were ultimately selected. Histopathological grading and tortuous blood vessels were included in the clinical model. The Radscore and clinical histopathology grading were among the final predictors in the unique nomogram. The three models had an AUC of 0.811 (95% CI, 0.742–0.880), 0.845 (95% CI, 0.781–0.908), and 0.896 (95% CI, 0.846–0.947) in the training cohort and in the test cohort they were 0.808 (95% CI, 0.703–0.913), 0.847 (95% CI, 0.739–0.954), and 0.887 (95% CI, 0.803–0.971). According to the DeLong test, the radiomics-clinical nomogram’s AUC in the training cohort substantially differed from that of the clinical model (AUC: 0.896 versus 0.845, p = 0.015) and the radiomics model (AUC: 0.896 versus 0.811, p = 0.002). The Delong test in the test cohort revealed no significant difference among the three models. Conclusions CT-based radiomics-clinical nomogram can be a useful tool for quantitatively predicting the status of muscle invasion in BCa.

Background: Patients with gastric cancer (GC) who underwent radical surgery require long-term follow-up (usually 5 years). The purpose of this study was to explore individualized follow-up strategies for patients with GC. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study that established a clinicopathologic database of patients who underwent gastrectomy from January 2010 to December 2020 at Ningbo No. 2 Hospital. Follow-up was performed until March 2023. The rate of new-onset recurrence of patients with GC was explored annually according to different pTNM stages, defining a recurrence rate of less than 1% as adequate follow-up time. Results: Of the 1606 patients who were eligible, the total number of patients who completed the 5- and 10-year follow-up was 1107 and 586, respectively. A total of 444 cases were diagnosed with recurrence. The recurrence rate for stage IA patients was consistently less than 1% during the follow-up time. The adequate follow-up time (the rate of new-onset recurrence less than 1%) was 5 years for stage IB and IIA patients, and 8 years for stage IIB and IIIA patients, respectively. In contrast, stage IIIB patients were always at risk of recurrence during the follow-up time (>1%). Time to a new recurrence rate for stage IIIC patients was 6 years. Conclusion: Among patients who underwent radical gastrectomy, the rate of new-onset recurrence varied among patients with different pTNM stages. This study suggests that the follow-up of GC can be individualized and refer to pTNM stage.

European pilchard (Sardina pilchardus), herein referred to as “sardine” or “European sardine”, is the most productive and economically important small pelagic fish in the Northwest African waters. Thus far, very little is known about its stock status in the West African region despite the rapid decadal increase in its catch production. The present study provides avenues vital to improving guidance for sustainable species management. In this region, sardine is divided administratively into three stocks (northern: stock N, central: stock A + B, and southern: stock C). Thus, the present study used two Surplus Production Models (SPM) to evaluate sardine's stock status. Sardine's catch and scientific survey biomass data obtained from FAO-CECAF's (Fishery Committee for the Eastern Central Atlantic (CECAF)) latest reports were used in this analysis to fit the SPMs and investigate the effectiveness of the available catch-per-unit-effort (CPUE) trends in setting the total allowable catch (TAC) for sustaining the different sardine stocks in the region. Results from the SPMs indicate that the sardine stock in the north is fished at optimum levels. Meanwhile, the SPMs output based on the scientific survey biomass indices indicated a healthy state for the central and southern sardine stocks. Similarly, the fishery CPUE indices for the central and southern stocks showed similar biomass trends compared to the survey biomass index, indicating healthy stock status. Therefore, in cases where survey biomass index data is unavailable to run stock assessments, this study suggests that sardine fishery CPUEs could be used in SPMs to monitor biomass trends over time and may also provide stock status proxies. Additionally, with rapid climate and other environmental changes, sardine stocks must be regularly monitored with consistent and comparable scientific methodologies and updated fisheries time series data.

The hypometabolism induced by fasting has great potential in maintaining health and improving survival in extreme environments, among which thyroid hormone (TH) plays an important role in the adaptation and the formation of new energy metabolism homeostasis during long-term fasting. In the present review, we emphasize the potential of long-term fasting to improve physical health and emergency rescue in extreme environments, introduce the concept and pattern of fasting and its impact on the body’s energy metabolism consumption. Prolonged fasting has more application potential in emergency rescue in special environments. The changes of THs caused by fasting, including serum biochemical characteristics, responsiveness of the peripheral and central hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis, and differential changes of TH metabolism, are emphasized in particular. It was proposed that the variability between brain and liver tissues in THs uptake, deiodination activation and inactivation is the key regulatory mechanism for the cause of peripheral THs decline and central homeostasis. While hypothalamic tanycytes play a pivotal role in the fine regulation of the HPT negative feedback regulation during long-term fasting. The study progress of tanycytes on thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) release and deiodination is described in detail. In conclusion, the combination of the decrease of TH metabolism in peripheral tissues and stability in the central HPT axis maintains the basal physiological requirement and new energy metabolism homeostasis to adapt to long-term food scarcity. The molecular mechanisms of this localized and differential regulation will be a key research direction for developing measures for hypometabolic applications in extreme environment.

Abstract Constructing composite solid electrolytes (CSEs) integrating the merits of inorganic and organic components is a promising approach to developing high‐performance all‐solid‐state lithium metal batteries (ASSLMBs). CSEs are now capable of achieving homogeneous and fast Li‐ion flux, but how to escape the trade‐off between mechanical modulus and adhesion is still a challenge. Herein, a strategy to address this issue is proposed, that is, intercalating highly conductive, homogeneous, and viscous‐fluid ionic conductors into robust coordination laminar framework to construct laminar solid electrolyte with homogeneous and fast Li‐ion conduction (LSE‐HFC). A 9 µm‐thick LSH‐HFC, in which poly(ethylene oxide)/succinonitrile is adsorbed by coordination laminar framework with metal–organic framework nanosheets as building blocks, is used here as an example to determine the validity. The Li‐ion transfer mechanism is verified and works across the entire LSE‐HFC, which facilitates homogeneous Li‐ion flux and low migration energy barriers, endowing LSE‐HFC with high ionic conductivity of 5.62 × 10−4 S cm−1 and Li‐ion transference number of 0.78 at 25 °C. Combining the outstanding mechanical strength against punctures and the enhanced adhesion force with electrodes, LSE‐HFC harvests uniform Li plating/stripping behavior. These enable the realization of high‐energy‐density ASSLMBs with excellent cycling stability when being assembled as LiFePO4/Li and LiNi0.6Mn0.2Co0.2O2/Li cells.

Background Osteoporosis is a disease associated with bone resorption, characterized primarily by the excessive activation of osteoclasts. Ginkgetin is a compound purified from natural ginkgo leaves which has various biological properties, including anti-inflammation, antioxidant, and anti-tumor effects. This study investigated the bone-protective effects of ginkgetin in ovariectomized (OVX) mice and explored their potential signaling pathway in inhibiting osteoclastogenesis in a mouse model of osteoporosis. Methods Biochemical assays were performed to assess the levels of Ca, ALP, and P in the blood. Micro CT scanning was used to evaluate the impact of ginkgetin on bone loss in mice. RT-PCR was employed to detect the expression of osteoclast-related genes (ctsk, c-fos, trap) in their femoral tissue. Hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining was utilized to assess the histopathological changes in femoral tissue due to ginkgetin. The TRAP staining was used to evaluate the impact of ginkgetin osteoclast generation in vivo. Western blot analysis was conducted to investigate the effect of ginkgetin on the expression of p-NF-κB p65 and IκBα proteins in mice. Results Our findings indicate that ginkgetin may increase the serum levels of ALP and P, while decreasing the serum level of Ca in OVX mice. H&E staining and micro CT scanning results suggest that ginkgetin can inhibit bone loss in OVX mice. The TRAP staining results showed ginkgetin suppresses the generation of osteoclasts in OVX mice. RT-PCR results demonstrate that ginkgetin downregulate the expression of osteoclast-related genes (ctsk, c-fos, trap) in the femoral tissue of mice, and this effect is dose-dependent. Western blot analysis results reveal that ginkgetin can inhibit the expression of p-NF-κB p65 and IκBα proteins in mice. Conclusion Ginkgetin can impact osteoclast formation and activation in OVX mice by inhibiting the NF-κB/IκBα signaling pathway, thereby attenuating bone loss in mice.

Resources and the environment are essential for socioeconomic development. A scientific and reasonable evaluation and forewarning of the resource and environmental carrying capacity (RECC) is of great significance for regional sustainable development. Although great progress has made in existing research on RECC, there is still no consensus on the definition, evaluation and forewarning method for RECC. Therefore, this study introduced the novel concepts of pressure, support and adjustment, proposed a theoretical framework of RECC reflecting the interaction between the above three, constructed a new evaluation index system of RECC, evaluated RECC based on the ratio method, identified important influencing factors using obstacle model, and put forward the hierarchical forewarning method of RECC with the threshold of 1. Finally, a case demonstration in regard to Yichang city, with a prominent ecological and economic status as the location of China’s Three Gorges Project, was conducted. The results revealed that: 1) The average pressure, support, and adjustment exhibited overall upward trends. The pressure and adjustment increased from west to east, while the support of central districts was relatively lower. 2) The RECC of Yichang city and counties improved from 2016 to 2021, increasing from west to east, and the differences in the RECC of various counties were remarkable but gradually shrank. 3) The RECC of Yichang city remained at the Non-Alert Level. The number of counties with RECC values at Alert Level II decreased from two to zero, and the number of counties at the Non-Alert Level increased from eight to ten. Xiaoting and Zhijiang, with more RECC values at Alert Level II, should receive more attention. This study is expected to enrich the methodology of RECC evaluation and forewarning, and provide possible implications for economic development and environmental protection planning in Yichang and other cities of the same type.

Abstract We successfully synthesized a series of O3‐type NaNi1/3Fe1/3Mn1/3−xZrxO2 (x = 0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.04) cathode materials by the solid‐state reaction method. Energy dispersion spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy results confirmed the successful incorporation of Zr elements into the lattice to substitute Mn. Due to the introduction of Zr4+, the crystal structure modulation of O3‐NaNi1/3Fe1/3Mn1/3O2 has been realized. By increasing the Zr4+ content, the width of the sodium diffusion layer expands, thereby facilitating the diffusion of sodium ions. Consequently, the material exhibits a remarkable enhancement in high‐rate capability. At the same time, increasing the Zr4+ content results in a notable decrease in both the average bond length of TM−O and the thickness of the TMO6 octahedron in the transition metal layer, resulting in a significant improvement in the cycling performance and structural stability of the cathode material. Additionally, the in‐situ XRD results demonstrate that the optimized cathode composition of O3‐NaNi1/3Fe1/3Mn1/3–0.02Zr0.02O2 (NFMZ2) undergoes a reversible phase transition of O3 → O3 + P3 → P3 → O3 + P3 → O3 during the charge–discharge process.

Highlights The amphipathic phenylalanine-adsorbed layer contributes to form a nucleophilic–hydrophobic interface that homogenizes Zn2+ flux while repelling H2O molecules from contacting Zn anode. The preferential reduction of phenylalanine (Phe) prior to H2O facilitates in situ formation of an organic–inorganic hybrid solid electrolyte interphase, enhancing the interfacial stability. Benefiting from the triple protection of Phe, the Zn||Zn and Zn||LMO cells display significantly improved electrochemical performances, even at extreme diluted electrolytes.

Abstract Lower socioeconomic status (SES) is related to increased incidence and mortality due to chronic diseases in adults. Association between SES variables and gut microbiome variation has been observed in adults at the population level, suggesting that biological mechanisms may underlie the SES associations; however, there is a need for larger studies that consider individual- and neighborhood-level measures of SES in racially diverse populations. In 825 participants from a multi-ethnic cohort, we investigated how SES shapes the gut microbiome. We determined the relationship of a range of individual- and neighborhood-level SES indicators with the gut microbiome. Individual education level and occupation were self-reported by questionnaire. Geocoding was applied to link participants’ addresses with neighborhood census tract socioeconomic indicators, including average income and social deprivation in the census tract. Gut microbiome was measured using 16SV4 region rRNA gene sequencing of stool samples. We compared α-diversity, β-diversity, and taxonomic and functional pathway abundance by SES. Lower SES was significantly associated with greater α-diversity and compositional differences among groups, as measured by β-diversity. Several taxa related to low SES were identified, especially an increasing abundance of Prevotella copri and Catenibacterium sp000437715, and decreasing abundance of Dysosmobacter welbionis in terms of their high log-fold change differences. In addition, nativity and race/ethnicity have emerged as ecosocial factors that also influence the gut microbiota. Together, these results showed that lower SES was strongly associated with compositional and taxonomic measures of the gut microbiome, and may contribute to shaping the gut microbiota.

Catch, bycatch and discard information is important for the assessment and management of fisheries. Using Chinese pelagic tuna longline observer data from 2010 to 2018, we studied the catch composition in the Chinese pelagic tuna longline fisheries in Atlantic targeting bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus) and bluefin tuna (Thunnus thynnus), and analyzed the survival status and discard rates of common bycatch species. A total of 55 species, including tunas, billfishes, sharks, sea turtles, cetaceans, seabirds, and other pelagic species, were observed. The results indicated that the catch composition of the Chinese pelagic tuna longline fishery targeting bigeye tuna was significantly different from that targeting bluefin tuna. The annual discard rates of common species decreased over this period. Discard rate by length and discard mortality for common species were varied among species. This is the first study to estimate catch, bycatch, and discard using Chinese pelagic tuna longline observer data in the Atlantic Ocean, which is important for the management of Chinese tuna longline fisheries in Atlantic Ocean.

Alzheimer’s disease is characterized by two major neuropathological hallmarks—the extracellular β-amyloid plaques and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles consisting of aggregated and hyperphosphorylated Tau protein. Recent studies suggest that dysregulation of the microtubule-associated protein Tau, especially specific proteolysis, could be a driving force for Alzheimer’s disease neurodegeneration. Tau physiologically promotes the assembly and stabilization of microtubules, whereas specific truncated fragments are sufficient to induce abnormal hyperphosphorylation and aggregate into toxic oligomers, resulting in them gaining prion-like characteristics. In addition, Tau truncations cause extensive impairments to neural and glial cell functions and animal cognition and behavior in a fragment-dependent manner. This review summarizes over 60 proteolytic cleavage sites and their corresponding truncated fragments, investigates the role of specific truncations in physiological and pathological states of Alzheimer’s disease, and summarizes the latest applications of strategies targeting Tau fragments in the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

Abstract The skin is intrinsically a cell-membrane-compartmentalized hydrogel with high mechanical strength, potent antimicrobial ability, and robust immunological competence, which provide multiple protective effects to the body. Methods capable of preparing hydrogels that can simultaneously mimic the structure and function of the skin are highly desirable but have been proven to be a challenge. Here, dual structurally and functionally skin-mimicking hydrogels are generated by crosslinking cell-membrane compartments. The crosslinked network is formed via free radical polymerization using olefinic double bond-functionalized extracellular vesicles as a crosslinker. Due to the dissipation of stretching energy mediated by vesicular deformation, the obtained compartment-crosslinked network shows enhanced mechanical strength compared to hydrogels crosslinked by regular divinyl monomers. Biomimetic hydrogels also exhibit specific antibacterial activity and adequate ability to promote the maturation and activation of dendritic cells given the existence of numerous extracellular vesicle-associated bioactive substances. In addition, the versatility of this approach to tune both the structure and function of the resulting hydrogels is demonstrated through introducing a second network by catalyst-free click reaction-mediated crosslinking between alkyne-double-ended polymers and azido-decorated extracellular vesicles. This study provides a platform to develop dual structure- and function-controllable skin-inspired biomaterials.

Abstract Nearly a quarter of bipolar disorder (BD) patients were misdiagnosed as major depressive disorder (MDD) patients, which cannot be corrected until mania/hypomania develops. It is important to recognize these obstacles so that the appropriate treatment can be initiated. Thus, we sought to distinguish patients with BD from MDD, especially to identify misdiagnosed BD before mania/hypomania, and further explore potential trait features that allow accurate differential diagnosis independent of state matters. Functional magnetic resonance imaging scans were performed at baseline on 92 MDD patients and 48 BD patients. The MDD patients were then followed up for more than two years. After follow-up, 23 patients transformed into BD (tBD), and 69 patients whose diagnoses remained unchanged were eligible for unipolar depression (UD). A support vector machine classifier was trained on the amygdala-based functional connectivity (FC) of 48 BD and 50 UD patients using a novel region-based feature selection. Then, the classifier was tested on the dataset, encompassing tBD and the remaining UD. It performed well for known BD and UD and can also distinguish tBD from UD with an accuracy of 81%, sensitivity of 82.6%, specificity of 79%, and AUC of 74.6%, respectively. Feature selection results revealed that ten regions within the cortico-limbic neural circuit contributed most to classification. Furthermore, in the FC comparisons among diseases, BD and tBD shared almost overlapped FC patterns in the cortico-limbic neural circuit, and both of them presented pronounced differences in most regions within the circuit compared with UD. The FC values of the most discriminating brain regions had no prominent correlations with the severity of depression, anxiety, and mania/hypomania (FDR correction). It suggests that BD possesses some trait features in the cortico-limbic neural circuit, rendering it dichotomized by the classifier based on known-diagnosis data.

Therapeutic targeting FOXO3A (a forkhead transcription factor) represents a promising strategy to suppress acute myeloid leukemia (AML). However, the effective inhibitors that target FOXO3A are lacking and the adaptive response signaling weakens the cytotoxic effect of FOXO3A depletion on AML cells. Here, we show that FOXO3A deficiency induces a compensatory response involved in the reactive activation of mTOR that leads to signaling rebound and adaptive resistance. Mitochondrial metabolism acts downstream of mTOR to provoke activation of JNK/c-JUN via reactive oxygen species (ROS). At the molecular level, FOXO3A directly binds to the promoter of G protein gamma subunit 7 (GNG7) and preserves its expression, while GNG7 interacts with mTOR and restricts phosphorylated activation of mTOR. Consequently, combinatorial inhibition of FOXO3A and mTOR show a synergistic cytotoxic effect on AML cells and prolongs survival in a mouse model of AML. Through a structure-based virtual screening, we report one potent small-molecule FOXO3A inhibitor (Gardenoside) that exhibits a strong effect of anti-FOXO3A DNA binding. Gardenoside synergizes with rapamycin to substantially reduce tumor burden and extend survival in AML patient-derived xenograft model. These results demonstrate that mTOR can mediate adaptive resistance to FOXO3A inhibition and validate a combinatorial approach for treating AML.

Background IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is intimately linked to mucosal immune responses, with nasopharyngeal and intestinal lymphoid tissues being crucial for its abnormal mucosal immunity. The specific pathogenic bacteria in these sites associated with IgAN, however, remain elusive. Our study employs 16S rRNA sequencing and machine learning (ML) approaches to identify specific pathogenic bacteria in these locations and to investigate common pathogens that may exacerbate IgAN.Methods In this cross-sectional analysis, we collected pharyngeal swabs and stool specimens from IgAN patients and healthy controls. We applied 16SrRNA sequencing to identify differential microbial populations. ML algorithms were then used to classify IgAN based on these microbial differences. Spearman correlation analysis was employed to link key bacteria with clinical parameters.Results We observed a reduced microbial diversity in IgAN patients compared to healthy controls. In the gut microbiota of IgAN patients, increases in Bacteroides, Escherichia-Shigella, and Parabacteroides, and decreases in Parasutterella, Dialister, Faecalibacterium, and Subdoligranulum were notable. In the respiratory microbiota, increases in Neisseria, Streptococcus, Fusobacterium, Porphyromonas, and Ralstonia, and decreases in Prevotella, Leptotrichia, and Veillonella were observed. Post-immunosuppressive therapy, Oxalobacter and Butyricoccus levels were significantly reduced in the gut, while Neisseria and Actinobacillus levels decreased in the respiratory tract. Veillonella and Fusobacterium appeared to influence IgAN through dual immune loci, with Fusobacterium abundance correlating with IgAN severity.Conclusions This study revealing that changes in flora structure could provide important pathological insights for identifying therapeutic targets, and ML could facilitate noninvasive diagnostic methods for IgAN.

Abstract The interrelated side reactions and dendrites growth severely destabilize the electrode/electrolyte interfaces, resulting in the difficult application of aqueous Zn ion batteries (AZIBs). Hydrophobic protective layer possesses natural inhibition ability for side reactions. However, the conventional protective layer with plane structure is difficult to attain joint regulation of side reaction and Zn nucleation. Herein, a novel three‐dimensional (3D) electrically conductive and hydrophobic (3DECH) interface is elaborated to enable stable Zn anode. The as‐prepared 3DECH interface presents a uniform 3D morphology with hydrophobic property, large specific surface area, abundant zincophilic sites, and excellent electroconductivity. Therefore, the 3DECH interface achieves uniform nucleation and dendrite‐free deposition from synergetic benefits: (1) increased nucleation sites and reduced local current density through the special 3D structure and (2) uniform electric potential distribution and rapid Zn2+ transport due to the electroconductive alloy chemistry, thus coupling the hydrophobic property to obtain a highly reversible Zn anode. Consequently, the modified anode achieves a superior coulombic efficiency of 99.88% over 3500 cycles, and the pouch cells using modified anode and LiMn2O4 (LMO) cathode retain a capacity of 84 mAh g−1 after 700 cycles at a reasonable depth discharge of 36%, without dendrite piercing and “dead Zn.”

Abstract The commercialization of silicon‐based anodes is affected by their low initial Coulombic efficiency (ICE) and capacity decay, which are attributed to the formation of an unstable solid electrolyte interface (SEI) layer. Herein, a feasible and cost‐effective prelithiation method under a localized high‐concentration electrolyte system (LHCE) for the silicon–silica/graphite (Si–SiO2/C@G) anode is designed for stabilizing the SEI layer and enhancing the ICE. The thin SiO2/C layers with –NH2 groups covered on nano‐Si surfaces are demonstrated to be beneficial to the prelithiation process by density functional theory calculations and electrochemical performance. The SEI formed under LHCE is proven to be rich in ionic conductivity, inorganic substances, and flexible organic products. Thus, faster Li+ transportation across the SEI further enhances the prelithiation effect and the rate performance of Si–SiO2/C@G anodes. LHCE also leads to uniform decomposition and high stability of the SEI with abundant organic components. As a result, the prepared anode shows a high reversible specific capacity of 937.5 mAh g−1 after 400 cycles at a current density of 1 C. NCM 811‖Li‐SSG‐LHCE full cell achieves a high‐capacity retention of 126.15 mAh g−1 at 1 C over 750 cycles with 84.82% ICE, indicating the great value of this strategy for Si‐based anodes in large‐scale applications.

BackgroundSlow flow/no-reflow (SF-NR) during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is associated with poor prognosis of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Currently, effective treatment is not available for SF-NR. Electroacupuncture (EA) has shown significant efficacy as an adjuvant therapy for many cardiovascular diseases by improving microcirculation and reducing ischemia-reperfusion injury. However, its effects on SF-NR in the AMI patients during PCI are not clear. This pilot trial aims to determine the efficacy of intraoperative EA in alleviating SF-NR in AMI patients undergoing PCI.MethodsThis prospective, single-center, randomized controlled, pilot trial will recruit 60 AMI patients scheduled for PCI at the Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, China. The patients will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio into the EA or the control groups. Patients in the control group will undergo standard PCI. Patients in the EA group will undergo intraoperative electroacupuncture while undergoing standard PCI. Incidence of SF-NR is the primary outcome for this study. This study will also assess secondary outcomes including cardiac biomarkers, inflammatory biomarkers, pain and anxiety scores, electrocardiography parameters, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) symptom score, and major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE). All the included patients will undergo laboratory tests including routine blood tests, levels of electrolytes, as well as liver and renal function tests. Patients will be followed up for 1 month after the procedure.DiscussionThis pilot trial will provide evidence for the potential benefits of intraoperative EA in improving microvascular perfusion and preventing or alleviating SF-NR during PCI in patients with AMI. If proven effective, intraoperative EA will provide a new and effective strategy against SF-NR and provide evidence for subsequent multicenter trials.Clinical Trial RegistrationClinicalTrials.gov, identifier (ChiCTR2300072265). We propose the grating systems composed of anisotropic material and study the tunability of such anisotropy to the evolutions of bound states in the continuum (BICs) and leaky mode, as well as the band flip between odd- and even-mode. The dependence of band transitions on the permittivity anisotropy is given in the single-layer grating lattice. By further introducing the freedom of interlayer shift, different numbers of band closures (zero, two and four) can be achieved during one shift period in a bilayer grating system. Besides, we also investigate the merging and transition of accidental BICs in a thicker grating structure, and analyze the asymptotic behavior of Q factor in such process. These studies elucidate the important effect of anisotropy on leaky-mode resonance and may supplement the research of band dynamics in isotropic grating systems.

Accurately identifying the optimal spatial scales of effect analysis of influencing factors on water quality is crucial for effective water environment management. To address this, we propose a framework that consists of mix scale division (watersheds, riparian buffers, and circular buffers), and conduct a case study in the Yuanjiang River Basin (YJRB). Scale effects and non-linear impacts of various influencing factors on water quality were identified. The case study results revealed the variations of these water quality indicators were predominated by different influencing factors at various sales, such as by slope (SL) at the scale of riparian buffer (w) = 500 m and circular buffer (r) = 15 km (with a contribution percentage of 16.6 %), mean annual temperature (TE) at the watershed scale (23.4 %), annual precipitation (PR) at the scale of w = watershed and r = 15 km etc. The percentage of cultivated land (CL) > 28 % at the scale (w = 500 m, r = 50 km) will lead to increase in total phosphorus (TP) and SL > 26° at the scale (w = 500 m, r = 15 km) will lead to increase in pondus hydrogenii (pH). While, POP > 30 person per unit area at the scale (w = 100 m, r = 1 km), SL > 24° at the scale (w = 500 m, r = 15 km), NDVI > 0.48 at the scale (w = 500 m, r = 5 km) and PR > 1300 mm at the scale (w = watershed, r = 15 km) will lead to decrease in ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), total nitrogen (TN), electrical conductivity (EC) and turbidity (NTU) respectively. Results indicated that the precision can be improved by regulating influencing factors within scale effects and considering the non-linear effects of factors on water quality.

Pandemics caused by respiratory viruses, such as the SARS-CoV-1/2, influenza virus, and respiratory syncytial virus, have resulted in serious consequences to humans and a large number of deaths. The detection of such respiratory viruses in the early stages of infection can help control diseases by preventing the spread of viruses. However, the diversity of respiratory virus species and subtypes, their rapid antigenic mutations, and the limited viral release during the early stages of infection pose challenges to their detection. This work reports a multiplexed microfluidic immunoassay chip for simultaneous detection of eight respiratory viruses with noticeable infection population, namely, influenza A virus, influenza B virus, respiratory syncytial virus, SARS-CoV-2, human bocavirus, human metapneumovirus, adenovirus, and human parainfluenza viruses. The nanomaterial of the nanozyme (Au@Pt nanoparticles) was optimized to improve labeling efficiency and enhance the detection sensitivity significantly. Nanozyme-binding antibodies were used to detect viral proteins with a limit of detection of 0.1 pg/mL with the naked eye and a microplate reader within 40 min. Furthermore, specific antibodies were screened against the conserved proteins of each virus in the immunoassay, and the clinical sample detection showed high specificity without cross reactivity among the eight pathogens. In addition, the microfluidic chip immunoassay showed high accuracy, as compared with the RT-PCR assay for clinical sample detection, with 97.2%/94.3% positive/negative coincidence rates. This proposed approach thus provides a convenient, rapid, and sensitive method for simultaneous detection of eight respiratory viruses, which is meaningful for the early diagnosis of viral infections. Significantly, it can be widely used to detect pathogens and biomarkers by replacing only the antigen-specific antibodies.

Cathode materials have been playing an important role in the development of high-energy, safe and low-cost lithium-ion batteries. However, the widely used single-phase cathode materials are facing great challenges in solving the mileage and safety problems related to electric vehicles due to their inherent structural defects. Intergrown design of bulk structure is believed to be one of the most fundamental ways to improve structural stability and capacity for cathode materials. Due to the diversity of structural configurations, the systematic understanding is still lack for the intergrown structures of different combinations. Therefore, it is very desirable, but also of great importance to summarize the current progress and challenges for intergrown cathodes. In this review, we comprehensively reviewed the design and synthesis methods of intergrown cathodes including layered-spinel intergrown structures, layered-rocksalt intergrown structures, and spinel-rocksalt intergrown structured cathode materials. The charge compensation mechanism of intergrown cathodes with different structural configurations was analyzed in depth, and a targeted optimization schematic diagram was also proposed. Finally, combined with advanced characterization techniques, the understanding of the structural changes has been deepened for the intergrown cathodes during the electrochemical process. It is hoped this review should shed light on the development of advanced cathode materials for the next-generation Li-ion batteries.

Abstract Directly repairing end‐of‐life lithium‐ion battery cathodes poses significant challenges due to the diverse compositions of the wastes. Here, we propose a water‐facilitated targeted repair strategy applicable to various end‐of‐life batches and cathodes. The process involves initiating structural repair and reconstructing particle morphology in degraded LiMn2O4 (LMO) through an additional thermal drive post‐ambient water remanganization, achieving elemental repair. Compared to solid‐phase repair, the resulting LMO material exhibits superior electrochemical and kinetic characteristics. The theoretical analysis highlights the impact of Mn defects on the structural stability and electron transfer rate of degraded materials. The propensity of Mn ions to diffuse within the Mn layer, specifically occupying the Mn 16d site instead of the Li 8a site, theoretically supports the feasibility of ambient water remanganization. Moreover, this method proves effective in the relithiation of degraded layered cathode materials, yielding single crystals. By combining low energy consumption, environmental friendliness, and recyclability, our study proposes a sustainable approach to utilizing spent batteries. This strategy holds the potential to enable the industrial direct repair of deteriorated cathode materials.

ObjectiveObesity, hypertension and diabetes are high prevalent that are often associated with poor outcomes. They have become major global health concern. Little research has been done on the impact of lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) on outcomes in these patients. Thus, we aimed to explore the association between LMR and all-cause mortality in obese hypertensive patients with diabetes and without diabetes.MethodsThe researchers analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2001-2018), which included 4,706 participants. Kaplan-Meier analysis was employed to compare survival rate between different groups. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression models with trend tests and restricted cubic splines (RCS) analysis and were used to investigate the relationship between the LMR and all-cause mortality. Subgroup analysis was performed to assess whether there was an interaction between the variables.ResultsThe study included a total of 4706 participants with obese hypertension (48.78% male), of whom 960 cases (20.40%) died during follow-up (median follow-up of 90 months). Kaplan–Meier curves suggested a remarkable decrease in all-cause mortality with increasing LMR value in patients with diabetes and non-diabetes (P for log-rank test < 0.001). Moreover, multivariable Cox models demonstrated that the risk of mortality was considerably higher in the lowest quartile of the LMR and no linear trend was observed (P > 0.05). Furthermore, the RCS analysis indicated a non-linear decline in the risk of death as LMR values increased (P for nonlinearity < 0.001).ConclusionsIncreased LMR is independently related with reduced all-cause mortality in patients with obese hypertension, regardless of whether they have combined diabetes.

Introduction: To achieve the “dual carbon” goal, the integrated energy system (IES) needs to take into account both economic and low-carbon requirements while meeting the growing energy demand.Methods: Therefore, an optimal scheduling model for low-carbon economic operation is proposed. Firstly, a more accurate carbon emission model is used to consider the actual carbon emission of gas load, to improve the original carbon emission model. A ladder-type carbon trading mechanism is introduced to further constrain the carbon emission of IES. Then, the demand-side response model is proposed, which uses the time-of-use price and mutual substitution of electricity, heat, and gas loads to curtail, time-shift, and substitute the load. Finally, an optimal scheduling model with minimum energy purchase cost, wind and photovoltaic curtailment cost, demand response cost, and carbon emission cost is constructed, which is solved by the GUROBI solver.Results: Through comparative simulation analysis of 6 cases, the results show that the objective function considers the traditional carbon trading cost to reduce carbon emission by about 19.3% compared with the case without considering. After adopting the ladder-type carbon trading mechanism, the carbon emission of IES can be further limited by about 0.35%, and the appropriate carbon trading base price is explored. In addition, after the demand response, the energy purchase cost, carbon trading cost, and carbon emission of IES are reduced by about 3.4%, 18.5%, and 36.2%, respectively, compared with those before the demand response. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Abstract Background The traditional Chinese kidney-tonifying granules, known as Bushen Zhongyao Keli (BSZYKL), have been found to stimulate calcium salt deposition, enhance bone formation, and foster bone growth within the bone matrix at sites of bone defects. On the other hand, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is enriched with various growth factors capable of facilitating the repair of bone defects and enhancing bone strength following fractures. This study is dedicated to investigating the combined efficacy of BSZYKL and PRP gel (PRP-G) in the treatment of bone defects. Methods We established a femur defect model in male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats and filled the defect areas with autologous coccygeal bone and PRP-G. For 8 consecutive weeks, those rats were given with intragastric administration of BSZYKL. Biomechanical characteristics of the femur were assessed 28 days after intramuscular administration. On day 56, bone formation was examined using X-ray, micro-CT, and transmission electron microscopy. Additionally, we analyzed the expression of bone formation markers, Runx2 and Osterix, in femur tissues through qPCR, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry. Results Rats receiving the combined treatment of BSZYKL and PRP-G exhibited drastically enhanced femoral peak torsion, failure angle, energy absorption capacity, and torsional stiffness as compared to control group. This combination therapy also led to marked improvements in bone volume, mass, and microarchitecture, accompanied by elevated expressions of Runx2 and Osterix when compared to control group. Notably, the synergistic effects of BSZYKL and PRP-G in treating bone defects surpassed the effects of either treatment alone. Conclusions These findings revealed the potential of BSZYKL in combination with PRP-G in improving bone defects.

Abstract Pushing layered cathode to higher operating voltage can facilitate the realization of high-energy lithium-ion batteries. However, the released oxygen species initiate materials surface upon highly delithiated states will react severely with electrolyte, accelerating the structure deterioration and triggering the thermal degradation. Here we propose an inert phase of La2Mo2O9 with abundant oxygen vacancies (about 41%) by regulating the annealing temperature to engineer the cathode interface beyond conventional modifications. By employing LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 as a model system and extending to higher voltage-operated LiCoO2 and Li-rich cathode, we demonstrate that the introduced lanthanum and molybdenum ions will transfer electrons to enhance the surface oxygen electronegativities, thus served as “oxygen anchor” to alleviate oxygen evolution. Furthermore, the possible released oxygen can be operando captured and reserved by β-phase La2Mo2O9 depositor for the intrinsic high oxygen vacancy formation energy. The reaction involving oxygen species with electrolyte is fundamentally diminished, thus effectively mitigate the structure deterioration and elevate the electrochemical performances, enabling a 1.5-Ah pouch-type full cell to exhibit negligible 6.0% capacity loss after 400 cycles.

Abstract Background Triptonodiol is a very promising antitumor drug candidate extracted from the Chinese herbal remedy Tripterygium wilfordii Hook. F., and related studies are underway. Methods To explore the mechanism of triptonodiol for lung cancer treatment, we used network pharmacology, molecular docking, and ultimately protein validation. Gene ontology (GO) analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Gene and Genome (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis were performed through the David database. Molecular docking was performed using PyMoL2.3.0 and AutoDock Vina software. After screening, the major targets of triptonodiol were identified for the treatment of lung cancer. Target networks were established, Protein–protein interaction (PPI) network topology was analyzed, then KEGG pathway enrichment analysis was performed. Useful proteins were screened by survival analysis, and Western blot analysis was performed. Results Triptonodiol may regulate cell proliferation, drug resistance, metastasis, anti-apoptosis, etc., by acting on glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta (GSK3B), protein kinase C (PKC), p21-activated kinase (PAK), and other processes. KEGG pathway enrichment analysis showed that these targets were associated with tumor, erythroblastic oncogene B (ErbB) signaling, protein phosphorylation, kinase activity, etc. Molecular docking showed that the target protein GSK has good binding activity to the main active component of triptonodiol. The protein abundance of GSK3B was significantly downregulated in non-small-cell lung cancer cells H1299 and A549 treated with triptonodiol for 24 h. Conclusion The cellular-level studies combined with network pharmacology and molecular docking approaches provide new ideas for the development and therapeutic application of triptonodiol, and identify it as a potential GSK inhibitor.

Abstract Traditional engine cycle innovation is limited by human experiences, imagination, and currently available engine component performance expectations. Thus, the engine cycle innovation process is quite slow for the past 90 years. In this work, we propose a mixed variable multi-objective evolutionary optimization method for automatic engine cycle design. In the first, a simulation toolkit is developed for performance evaluation of potentially viable engine cycle solutions. Then, the engine cycle solutions are mixed encoded by the pins and the parameters of different engine components. The new engine cycle solutions are generated through the mutation operator. Finally, we construct two optimization objectives to drive the optimization process. Through the experimental research, new engine cycle solutions are discovered that exceed the performance of known turbojet and turbofan engines.

Cinnamomum bodinieri is important landscaping and economic tree species, which is rich in essential oils in branches and leaves. However, there are few theoretical researches on the genomics of C. bodinieri. In order to reveal the chloroplast genomic characteristics and phylogenetic relationship of C. bodinieri, the complete chloroplast genome was sequenced based on Illumina platform and assembled through de novo. The genome structure, gene composition, sequence repeats, codon usage bias and phylogeny were analyzed subsequently. Furthermore, the phylogenetic tree was constructed with the chloroplast genome data of the main species of Subfam. Lauroideae. The results were as follows: (1) The complete chloroplast genome of C. bodinieri was 152 727 bp in length including two inverted repeats (IRs) of 20 132 bp, which were separated by large single copy(LSC) of 93 605 bp and short single copy(SSC) of 18 858 bp, respectively, and the GC content was 39.13%. (2) The genome encoded 127 functional genes, including 83 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 36 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. A total of 92 SSR loci were detected in the chloroplast genome, and most of them were composed of nucleobase A and T. The codon adaptation index (CAI) and effective number of codons (ENc) were 0.166 and 54.68, respectively. There were some differences in IR region and the boundary of two SC regions of the chloroplast genomes between C. bodinieri and related species. (3) Phylogenetic tree based on 24 species of Subfam. Lauroideae showed that the C. bodinieri was most closely related to C. camphora. The phylogeny strongly supported the establishment of the three clades, Cinnamomum-Ocotea, Laurus-Neolitsea, and Machilus-Persea. This study enriched the information on the genetic resources of C. bodinieri, and further clarified the phylogenetic status of the main genera of Subfam. Lauroideae.

Cercospora apii is an important seedborne pathogenic fungus causing severe Cercospora leaf spot of celery worldwide. Here, we first present a complete genome assembly of C. apii QCYBC from celery, based on Illumina paired-end and PacBio long-read sequencing data. The high-quality genome assembly contains 34 scaffolds with a 34.81 Mb genome size, 330 interspersed repeat genes, 114 noncoding RNAs, and 12,631 protein-coding genes. The benchmarking universal single-copy ortholog (BUSCO) analysis indicated that 98.2% of the BUSCOs were complete, whereas 0.3, 0.7, and 1.1% were duplicated, fragmented, and missing, respectively. Based on annotation, 508 carbohydrate-active enzymes, 243 cytochromes P450 enzymes, 1,639 translocators, 1,358 transmembrane proteins, and 1,146 virulence genes were identified. Abstract Purpose This study aimed to compare the effects of conventional surgery and three-dimension (3D) printing technology-assisted surgery in the treatment of posterolateral tibial plateau fractures (PTPF). Methods A cohort of 61 patients afflicted with PTPF, spanning from June 2015 to October 2021, was enrolled. They were divided randomly into two groups: 31 cases of 3D printing group, 30 cases of conventional group. The personalized 3D-printed models were used to simulate the surgical procedures in 3D printing group. The demographic characteristics and clinical data were recorded, encompassing operation duration, intraoperative blood loss, intraoperative fluoroscopy shoots and fracture union time. The radiographic outcomes were gauged, encompassing tibiofemoral angle (FTA), tibial plateau angle (TPA), posterolateral slope angle (PSA) and Rasmussen’s anatomical score. The functional outcomes were assessed at the 12-month postoperative juncture, encompassing range of motion, Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) score and Rasmussen’s functional score. Furthermore, fracture complications were evaluated,, encompassing infections, traumatic osteoarthritis, and delayed union. Abstract Accurate bearing capacity assessment under load conditions is essential for the design of concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) columns. This paper presents an optimization-based machine learning method to estimate the ultimate compressive strength of rectangular concrete-filled steel tube (RCFST) columns. A hybrid model, GS-SVR, was developed based on support vector machine regression (SVR) optimized by the grid search (GS) algorithm. The model was built based on a sample of 1003 axially loaded and 401 eccentrically loaded test data sets. The predictive performance of the proposed model is compared with two commonly used machine learning models and two design codes. The results obtained for the axial loading dataset with R2 of 0.983, MAE of 177.062, RMSE of 240.963, and MAPE of 12.209%, and for the eccentric loading dataset with R2 of 0.984, MAE of 93.234, RMSE of 124.924, and MAPE of 10.032% show that GS-SVR is the best model for predicting the compressive strength of RCFST columns under axial and eccentric loadings. It is an effective alternative method that can be used to assist and guide the design of RCFST columns to save time and cost of some laboratory experiments. Additionally, the impact of input parameters on the output was investigated.

Growing peaking regulation pressure of the thermal-dominant power grid in China caused by increasing peak–valley differences is of concern in recent years. As the second largest power supply in China, hydropower is an important supporting resource for daily peak shaving operations. It is effective to install new pumped-storage hydro turbines (PSHT) based on the constructed cascade reservoirs to make full use of water resources, which is become a popular measure recently. This paper investigates the peak shaving of cascade hydropower with mixed pumped-storage (CHMPS) to reduce the variance of the residual load of the external grid. The hydraulic constraints, unit operation constraints, and impact of water head on unit generation are considered to formulate a precise model. The nonlinear and nonconvex problem is linearized and converted into a mixed-integer quadratic programming (MIQP) problem to enhance computational efficiency. Simulation results based on a hydropower system in China verify the effect of the proposed model on daily peak shaving.
