Objective: To evaluate the immunomodulatory function and safety of compound preparation containing Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides. Methods: According to the Technical Standards for Testing and Assessment of Health Food (2003 Edition), the immunomodulatory function of compound preparation containing Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides was evaluated comprehensively from cellular immunity, humoral immunity and non-specific immunity by measuring the ability of lymphocyte proliferation, degree of ear swelling, number of hemolytic plaques, phagocytic percentage, phagocytic index and natural killer (NK) cells activity in normal mice. Its safety was evaluated comprehensively by acute oral toxicity test in mice, Ames test and 30 d feeding test in rats. Results: In cellular immunity test, the tested substance had no significant effect on lymphocyte proliferation induced by concanavalin A and degree of ear swelling (P>0.05). In the humoral immunity test, the low dose group (0.17 g/kg), the middle dose group (0.33 g/kg) and the high dose group (1.00 g/kg) could increase the level of antibody-producing cells by 10.98%, 12.08%, 17.63% (P0.05), and no obvious pathological changes were found by histological examination. Conclusion: Compound preparation containing Ganoderma lucidum polysaccharides had a positive effect on immunomodulatory function in mice, and it had a good safety as a health food.

Abstract Background Endometriosis is a complex disorder with genetic, immune, inflammatory, and multifactorial etiologies. Zinc, an essential trace element, plays a crucial role in various physiological processes. Dysregulation or deficiency of zinc can lead to aberrations in human physiology. However, the association between dietary zinc and endometriosis remains ambiguous. This study aimed to investigate the link between dietary zinc intake and endometriosis. Methods Utilizing cross-sectional data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, we analyzed information from American women aged 20–54 years between 1999 and 2006. After adjusting for relevant covariates, multivariable logistic regression analysis was employed to assess correlations. Results A total of 4315 women were included in the study. The multivariable logistic regression model revealed a positive correlation between dietary zinc intake and the risk of endometriosis, even after controlling for confounding variables. Relative to individuals with lower zinc consumption (≤ 8 mg/day), the adjusted odds ratio (OR) values for dietary zinc intake and endometriosis in the 8–14 mg/day and > 14 mg/day groups were 1.19 (95% CI: 0.92–1.54, p = 0.189) and 1.60 (95% CI: 1.12–2.27, p = 0.009), respectively. Conclusions Our findings suggest a positive correlation between dietary zinc intake and the prevalence of endometriosis. However, further investigations are necessary to better understand this association and explore the potential role of dietary zinc in endometriosis.

Abstract Emulsified asphalt mixtures’ cold mix and paving features facilitate asphalt pavements in fulfilling dual-carbon and energy-saving demands. Anionic emulsifiers can enhance emulsion stability, ensure uniform dispersion of oil and water, possess good decompression viscosity, thickening, and lubricating properties, and maintain good stability under acidic conditions. Nevertheless, anionic emulsified asphalt is restricted in engineering applications due to problems like its storage stability. In this paper, eight anionic emulsifiers and two preparation procedures were chosen for stability tests. Through static tests, storage tests, sieve residue tests, and laser particle size tests, the impacts of emulsifiers on the storage stability and dispersion of asphalt were analyzed. Waterborne epoxy resin exhibits excellent adhesive properties, mechanical properties, chemical resistance, and heat stability. A fluorescence microscope test, static and storage test, laser particle size test, and cementation test were employed to explore the effects of different preparation processes and waterborne epoxy mixing ratios on emulsified asphalt’s storage stability, dispersion stability, and structural stability. The results showed that: (1) the emulsified asphalt prepared with the BWH-02 emulsifier exhibits the best storage stability, and blending with 20% of the waterborne epoxy modifier can notably enhance the bonding properties; (2) the shear strength of the BWH-02 waterborne epoxy emulsified asphalt prepared can reach 1.543 MPa, and the tensile viscosity can reach 0.848 MPa; (3), The emulsified asphalt prepared by the process of modification has better storage stability than that prepared by the side of the emulsification process. Moreover, the storage stability of emulsified asphalt prepared by emulsification and modification is superior to that of the emulsification and modification process. This research provides theoretical and technical support for popularizing and applying cold-mixed cold-paving asphalt mixtures.

The effect of the use of Aspergillus oryzae, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and Wickerhamomyces anomalus as starter cultures on volatile substances during the fermentation of Douchi. The results showed that the contents of total volatile compounds in the uninoculated control, A. oryzae, LAB, A. oryzae + LAB, and W. anomalus inoculation groups were 5 145.88, 13 972.15, 9 006.07, 4 359.72 and 5 169.42 μg/kg, respectively. The contents of alcohols, organic acids, ketones and esters were increased by A. oryzae; the contents of alcohols and organic acids were increased by LAB; the contents of alcohols and organic acids were increased by the mixture of A. oryzae and LAB, but its effect was less pronounced than that of pure culture fermentation; the contents of alcohols and organic acids were increased by W. anomalus. Compared with the control group, the contents of pyrazines and phenolics in each inoculated fermentation group were decreased. Taken together, A. oryzae was the most suitable for the fermentation of Douchi, and the other strains could assist in regulating the production of volatile compounds during the fermentation of Douchi. Our findings from this study could provide some theoretical references for the industrial production of Douchi with traditional Chinese flavor.

Abstract Photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting is a promising approach for sustainable hydrogen production. Previous studies have focused on devices operated at atmospheric pressure, although most applications require hydrogen delivered at elevated pressure. Here, we address this critical gap by investigating the implications of operating PEC water splitting directly at elevated pressure. We evaluate the benefits and penalties associated with elevated pressure operation by developing a multiphysics model that incorporates empirical data and direct experimental observations. Our analysis reveals that the operating pressure influences bubble characteristics, product gas crossover, bubble-induced optical losses, and concentration overpotential, which are crucial for the overall device performance. We identify an optimum pressure range of 6–8 bar for minimizing losses and achieving efficient PEC water splitting. This finding provides valuable insights for the design and practical implementation of PEC water splitting devices, and the approach can be extended to other gas-producing (photo)electrochemical systems. Overall, our study demonstrates the importance of elevated pressure in PEC water splitting, enhancing the efficiency and applicability of green hydrogen generation.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model combined with an EGFR occupancy (EO) model for osimertinib (OSI) to predict plasma trough concentration (Ctrough) and the intracranial time-course of EGFR (T790M and L858R mutants) engagement in patient populations. The PBPK model was also used to investigate the key factors affecting OSI pharmacokinetics (PK) and intracranial EGFR engagement, analyze resistance to the target mutation C797S, and determine optimal dosing regimens when used alone and in drug-drug interactions (DDIs). A population PBPK-EO model of OSI was developed using physicochemical, biochemical, binding kinetic, and physiological properties, and then validated using nine clinical PK studies, observed EO study, and two clinical DDI studies. The PBPK-EO model demonstrated good consistency with observed data, with most prediction-to-observation ratios falling within the range of 0.7 to 1.3 for plasma AUC, Cmax, Ctrough and intracranial free concentration. The simulated time-course of C797S occupancy by the PBPK model was much lower than T790M and L858R occupancy, providing an explanation for OSI on-target resistance to the C797S mutation. The PBPK model identified ABCB1 CLint,u, albumin level, and EGFR expression as key factors affecting plasma Ctrough and intracranial EO for OSI. Additionally, PBPK-EO simulations indicated that the optimal dosing regimen for OSI in patients with brain metastases is either 80 mg once daily (OD) or 160 mg OD, or 40 mg or 80 mg twice daily (BID). When used concomitantly with CYP enzyme perpetrators, the PBPK-EO model suggested appropriate dosing regimens of 80 mg OD with fluvoxamine (FLUV) itraconazole (ITR) or fluvoxamine (FLUC) for co-administration and an increase to 160 mg OD with rifampicin (RIF) or efavirenz (EFA). In conclusion, the PBPK-EO model has been shown to be capable of simulating the pharmacokinetic concentration–time profiles and the time-course of EGFR engagement for OSI, as well as determining the optimum dosing in various clinical situations.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is one of the most common malignant tumors in children and young adults. As chemotherapy and other therapies are limited by low therapeutic efficiency, severe side effects and single therapeutic function, it is of high value to develop innovative therapies for precise and efficient treatment of OS. Herein, natural photosynthetic microalgae (C. vulgaris, CV) were utilized as carriers for the chemotherapeutic agent doxorubicin (DOX) to create a multifunctional therapeutic platform (CV@DOX) for the photo-modulation of the tumor microenvironment (TME) and synergistic chemo-photodynamic therapy of osteosarcoma. CV@DOX exhibited rapid drug release behavior in the acidic TME, improving the efficiency of chemotherapy against tumors and reducing side effects on other normal tissues. Under 650 nm laser irradiation, CV@DOX demonstrated the ability to effectively generate oxygen to alleviate tumor hypoxia and utilize the photosensitizing properties of chlorophyll in CV to produce an increased amount of reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby enhancing photodynamic therapy (PDT). CV@DOX-mediated synergistic chemo-photodynamic therapy demonstrated efficacy in halting tumor progression in an orthotopic osteosarcoma mouse model by promoting tumor cell apoptosis, inhibiting tumor proliferation and angiogenesis. Moreover, chlorophyll-assisted fluorescence imaging enabled monitoring of the distribution of CV@DOX in osteosarcoma after administration. Finally, CV@DOX did not cause significant hematological and tissue toxicity, and prevented DOX-induced cardiotoxicity, showing good in vivo biocompatibility. Overall, this work presents a novel TME-responsive and TME-modulating platform for imaging-guided multimodal osteosarcoma treatment.

BackgroundRecent studies have suggested that cell death may be involved in bone loss or the resolution of inflammation in periodontitis. Immunogenic cell death (ICD), a recently identified cell death pathway, may be involved in the development of this disease.MethodsBy analyzing single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) for periodontitis and scoring gene set activity, we identified cell populations associated with ICD, which were further verified by qPCR, enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and immunofluorescence (IF) staining. By combining the bulk transcriptome and applying machine learning methods, we identified several potential ICD-related hub genes, which were then used to build diagnostic models. Subsequently, consensus clustering analysis was performed to identify ICD-associated subtypes, and multiple bioinformatics algorithms were used to investigate differences in immune cells and pathways between subtypes. Finally, qPCR and immunohistochemical staining were performed to validate the accuracy of the models.ResultsSingle-cell gene set activity analysis found that in non-immune cells, fibroblasts had a higher ICD activity score, and KEGG results showed that fibroblasts were enriched in a variety of ICD-related pathways. qPCR, Elisa and IF further verified the accuracy of the results. From the bulk transcriptome, we identified 11 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) associated with ICD, and machine learning methods further identified 5 hub genes associated with ICD. Consensus cluster analysis based on these 5 genes showed that there were differences in immune cells and immune functions among subtypes associated with ICD. Finally, qPCR and immunohistochemistry confirmed the ability of these five genes as biomarkers for the diagnosis of periodontitis.ConclusionFibroblasts may be the main cell source of ICD in periodontitis. Adaptive immune responses driven by ICD may be one of the pathogenesis of periodontitis. Five key genes associated with ICD (ENTPD1, TLR4, LY96, PRF1 and P2RX7) may be diagnostic biomarkers of periodontitis and future therapeutic targets.

Vitamin B6 serves as a pivotal coenzyme in various metabolic pathways involving lipids, hemes, nucleic acids, proteins, and carbohydrates. Dysregulation or deficiency of vitamin B6 can perturb human physiology. However, the relationship between dietary vitamin B6 and endometriosis remains elusive. This study aims to explore how dietary intake of vitamin B6 is associated with the risk of endometriosis.MethodsUsing cross-sectional data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, we analyzed information from American women aged 20–54 years between 1999 and 2006. After adjusting for relevant covariates, multivariable logistic regression analysis was employed to evaluate correlations.ResultsA total of 4,453 women were included in the study. The multiple linear regression model revealed a positive association between dietary vitamin B6 intake and the risk of endometriosis, even after controlling for confounding variables. Compared to individuals with lower vitamin B6 consumption (Q1: 1.90 mg/day) were 1.22 (95% CI: 0.88–1.69, p = 0.23), 1.22 (95% CI: 0.86–1.73, p = 0. 279), and 1.51 (95% CI, 1.01–2. 24, p = 0.04), respectively.ConclusionOur findings suggest a positive correlation between endometriosis and dietary vitamin B6 intake. Further investigations are imperative to establish a causal relationship between dietary vitamin B6 intake and endometriosis.

Solid-state electrolytes have been demonstrated immense potential with their high density and safety for Li, Na batteries. The discovery of novel crystals is of fundamental scientific and technological interest in solid-state chemistry. The discovery, synthesis and application of energetically favourable solid-state electrolytes has been bottlenecked by expensive trial-and-error approaches. Machine learning has brought breakthroughs to solid-state electrolytes. Numerous solid-state electrolyte candidates have been screened by different models at multiscale, i.e., interatomic potentials, molecular dynamics, ionic conductivity. Machine learning method also accelerate the synthesis prediction, mechanism discovery and interface design. This review would answer the question what can be done for solid-state electrolytes by machine learning, including descriptor, model, algorithm etc. This paper will promote fast integration between scientists in materials, software, computing discipline.

Background Previous studies have highlighted the catalytic activity of Escherichia coli alcohol dehydrogenase YahK in the presence of coenzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and metal zinc. Notably, competitive interaction between iron and zinc ligands has been shown to influence the catalytic efficiency of several key proteases. This study aims to unravel the intricate mechanisms underlying YahK’s catalytic action, with a particular focus on the pivotal roles played by metal ions zinc and iron. Methods The purified YahK protein from E. coli cells cultivated in LB medium was utilized to investigate its metal-binding properties through UV-visible absorption measurements and determination of metal content. Subsequently, the effects of excess zinc and iron on the metal-binding ability and alcohol dehydrogenase activity of the YahK protein were explored using M9 minimal medium. Furthermore, site-directed mutagenesis technology was employed to determine the iron-binding site location within the YahK protein. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis was conducted to examine the relationship between iron and zinc with respect to the YahK protein. Results The study confirmed the presence of iron and zinc in the YahK protein, with the zinc-bound form exhibiting enhanced catalytic activity in alcohol dehydrogenation reactions. Conversely, the presence of iron appears to play a pivotal role in maintaining overall stability of the YahK protein. Furthermore, experimental findings indicate that excessive zinc within M9 minimal medium can competitively bind to iron-binding sites on YahK, thereby augmenting its alcohol dehydrogenase activity. Conclusion The dynamic binding of YahK to iron and zinc unveils its intricate regulatory mechanism as an alcohol dehydrogenase, thereby highlighting the possible physiological role of YahK in E. coli and its significance in governing cellular metabolic processes. This discovery provides a novel perspective for further investigating the specific impact of metal ion binding on YahK and E. coli cell metabolism.

Purpose To investigate the differences in survival after venous thromboembolism (VTE) and anticoagulation efficacy and safety between catheter (CRVTE) and non-catheter-related VTE (NCRVTE) in cancer patients. Methods A retrospective research was conducted, and consecutive cancer (digestive, respiratory, genitourinary, blood and lymphatic, and the other cancers) patients with VTE were enrolled. The anticoagulation therapies included low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH), warfarin, new type of direct oral anticoagulants (NDOACs), LMWH combined with warfarin, and LMWH combined with NDOACs. Data were collected from the electronic medical record database of our hospital and were analyzed accordingly by Kruskal-Wallis H Test, Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, Logistic regressions, Kaplan-Meier analysis, and Cox regressions. Results 263 patients were included, median age in years (interquartile range) was 64(56-71) and 60.5% were male. VTE recurrence rate was 16.7% in CRVTE group which was significantly lower than 34.8% in NCRVTE group ( P = .032). Heart diseases were independently associated with VTE recurrence ( P = .025). Kaplan-Meier survival estimates at 1, 2, and 3 years for CRVTE group were 62.5%, 60.0%, and 47.5%, respectively, compared with 47.9% ( P = .130), 38.7% ( P = .028), and 30.1% ( P = .046), respectively, for NCRVTE group. Cox regression showed surgery ( P = .003), anticoagulation therapy types ( P = .009), VTE types ( P = .006) and cancer types ( P = .039) were independent prognostic factors for 3-year survival after VTE. Nonmajor and major bleeding were not significantly different ( P = .417). Anticoagulation therapy types were independently associated with the bleeding events ( P = .030). Conclusions Cancer patients with CRVTE potentially have a better anticoagulation efficacy and survival compared to NCRVTE, and the anticoagulation safety seems no significant difference.

Guizhou Province is located in Southwest of China, with many mountains and hills, and is a typical karst topography and geomorphology area with frequent geological disasters such as collapses and landslides. The existing dangerous rock mass in the Xiaotunyan collapse zone in Sinan County has large range and volume, and fissures, concave cavities, and solution caves have developed. Objective In order to study the failure probability of passive protection nets for rockfalls in typical karst areas. Methods A three-dimensional model of the collapse zone through high-precision realistic modeling technology was constructed, by which the movement process of collapsed falling rocks was simulated. According to the results of the field investigation, aerial photography of the unmanned aerial vehicle and numerical simulation, an appropriate rockfall location layout for the passive protection net was selected. And based on the identification of the rockfall particle size, the different rockfall particle sizes were selected to simulate the interception effect of the passive protection net, then the failure probability of the passive protective net can be calculated. Results The results show that the rockfall breakthrough rates of 13 particle sizes vary: the interception effect of small to medium sized falling rocks with particle sizes ranging from 0.25 m to 2.25 m is effective, but the interception rate of passive protection net cannot reach 100%. When the particle size is larger than 2.25 m, the passive protection net fails, that is the upper limit of the design of the passive protection net under the Xiaotunyan collapse zone is the 2.25 m particle size of rockfall. According to the calculation, the failure probability of all rockfall particle sizes intercepted by the passive protection net is less than 5%, which is within the acceptable scope. Conclusion The research results provide a reference for rockfall protection measures in the Xiaotunyan collapse zone and are of great significance for the protection of life and property safety for people in karst mountainous areas.

Abstract Objective Most studies investigated the relationship between COVID-19 and Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) by comparing the incidence of GBS before and during the pandemic of COVID-19. However, the findings were inconsistent, probably owing to varying degrees of the lockdown policy. The quarantine requirements and travel restrictions in China were lifted around December 7, 2022. This study aimed to explore whether the relative frequency of GBS increased during the major outbreak in the absence of COVID-19-mandated social restrictions in China. Methods GBS patients admitted to the First Hospital, Shanxi Medical University, from December 7, 2022 to February 20, 2023, and from June, 2017 to August, 2019 were included. The relative frequencies of GBS in hospitalized patients during different periods were compared. The patients with and without SARS-CoV-2 infection within six weeks prior to GBS onset formed the COVID-GBS group and non-COVID-GBS group, respectively. Results The relative frequency of GBS among hospitalized patients during the major outbreak of COVID-19 (13/14,408) was significantly higher than that before the COVID-19 epidemic (29/160,669, P

Abstract The diaphragm is a unique skeletal muscle due to its continuous activation pattern during the act of breathing. The ontogeny of macrophages, pivotal cells for skeletal muscle maintenance and regeneration, is primarily based on two distinct origins: postnatal bone marrow-derived monocytes and prenatal embryonic progenitors. Here we employed chimeric mice to study the dynamics of these two macrophage populations under different conditions. Traditional chimeric mice generated through whole body irradiation showed virtually complete elimination of the original tissue-resident macrophage pool. We then developed a novel method which employs lead shielding to protect the diaphragm tissue niche from irradiation. This allowed us to determine that up to almost half of tissue-resident macrophages in the diaphragm can be maintained independently from bone marrow-derived monocytes under steady-state conditions. These findings were confirmed by long-term (5 months) parabiosis experiments. Acute diaphragm injury shifted the macrophage balance toward an overwhelming predominance of bone marrow (monocyte)-derived macrophages. However, there was a remarkable reversion to the pre-injury ontological landscape after diaphragm muscle recovery. This diaphragm shielding method permits analysis of the dynamics of macrophage origin and corresponding function under different physiological and pathological conditions. It may be especially useful for studying diseases which are characterized by acute or chronic injury of the diaphragm and accompanying inflammation.

Abstract Objective This study aimed to establish and validate a nomogram prognostic model for predicting short-term efficacy of acetylcholine receptor antibody-positive (AChR-Ab+) generalized myasthenia gravis (GMG). Methods A retrospective observational study was conducted at the First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, enrolling patients diagnosed with AChR-Ab+ GMG from May 2020 to September 2022. The primary outcome was the change in the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America (MGFA) post-intervention status after 6 months of standard treatment. Predictive factors were identified through univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, with significant factors incorporated into the nomogram. The bootstrap test was used for internal validation of the nomogram model. Model performance was assessed using calibration curves, receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results A total of 90 patients were enrolled, of whom 30 achieved unchanged or worse status after 6 months of standard therapy. Univariate logistic regression analysis showed that quantitative myasthenia gravis score, gender, body mass index, course of disease, hemoglobin levels, and white blood cell counts were six potential predictors. These factors were used for multivariate logistic regression analysis, and a nomogram was constructed. The calibration curve showed that the predicted value was in good agreement with the actual value (p = 0.707), and the area under the curve value (0.792, 95% CI 0.686–0.899) indicated good discrimination ability. DCA suggests that this model has potential clinical application value. Conclusion The constructed nomogram, based on key patient indicators, shows promise as a clinically useful tool for predicting the short-term efficacy of treatment of AChR-Ab+ GMG. Validation in larger, multicenter cohorts is needed to further substantiate its applicability.

AbstractObjectives We aimed to prospectively investigate the benefit of using augmented reality (AR) for surgery residents learning aneurysm surgery.Materials and methods Eight residents were included, and divided into an AR group and a control group (4 in each group). Both groups were asked to locate an aneurysm with a blue circle on the same screenshot after their viewing of surgery videos from both AR and non-AR tests. Only the AR group was allowed to inspect and manipulate an AR holographic representation of the aneurysm in AR tests. The actual location of the aneurysm was defined by a yellow circle by an attending physician after each test. Localization deviation was determined by the distance between the blue and yellow circle.Results Localization deviation was lower in the AR group than in the control group in the last 2 tests (AR Test 2: 2.7 ± 1.0 mm vs. 5.8 ± 4.1 mm, p = 0.01, non-AR Test 2: 2.1 ± 0.8 mm vs. 5.9 ± 5.8 mm, p

Daphnetin exerts certain pharmacological function on a variety of diseases, but its role in diabetic cognitive dysfunction has not been elucidated. In this study, we carried a series of pharmacological studies of GLP-1R with daphnetin. In rats and PC12 cells, we found that daphnetin could alleviate diabetic cognitive dysfunction and increase the expression level of GLP-1R. Additionally, the anti-diabetic cognitive dysfunction effect of DAP was accompanied by the inhibition of inflammation and oxidative stress. Further in-depth studies demonstrated that the inhibition GLP-1R enhanced the protective effect of daphnetin, whilst, the overexpression of GLP-1R weakened the protective effect of daphnetin. These results indicated that daphnetin protects diabetes cognitive dysfunction by regulating GLP-1R-mediated inflammation and oxidative stress, act as a GLP-1R agonist. The study further demonstrated that daphnetin has great value in preventing cognitive dysfunction in type 2 diabetes, and GLP-1R is a key potential target for the treatment of related diseases.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most prevalent and common malignant tumors worldwide, accounting for 85–90 % of primary liver cancer cases. Accumulating evidence shows that long non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) play regulatory roles in HCC occurrence and progression. However, little is known about the biological role of the LncRNA “E2F1-regulated inhibitor of cell death” (ERICD) in HCC. Our study revealed that ERICD is highly expressed in HCC and correlates with TNM staging; high ERICD levels were associated with poor patient prognoses. We revealed the targeting relationship between ERICD and miR-142-5p for the first time by bioinformatics prediction and further verified the targeting relationship between ERICD and miR-142-5p using a luciferase reporting experiment. In summary, our results showed that ERICD promotes the occurrence and metastasis of HCC by downregulating miR-142-5p expression. Our study provides a target for new potential therapeutic strategies for HCC.

Abstract The objective of this research is to examine the impact of eccentric training on hamstring flexibility and strength in young dancers during the concluding stages of their foundational dance training program. A total of 24 female, second-year dance students from Hebei Normal University were selected as participants. They were divided into three distinct groups: Nordic hamstring exercise and single-leg deadlift group (NHE&SLD), forward bending exercises and standing leg lift group (FBE&SLL), and a control group (CG). The study was designed around a 6-week training regimen. An isokinetic dynamometer was used to measure seated knee flexor–extensor strength, while electronic goniometry was employed to measure hamstring flexibility in the supine position. Paired sample t-tests were conducted within each group, and one-way analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was utilized for comparisons between groups. In the NHE&SLD group, significant disparities were observed in both concentric (T = − 5.687, P = 0.001) and eccentric (T = − 3.626, P = 0.008) hamstring strength pre and post-intervention. The pre-intervention dominant leg concentric strength test values significantly influenced the post-intervention outcomes (F = 5.313, P = 0.001, η2 = 0.840). Similarly, the pre-intervention dominant leg eccentric strength test values impacted the post-intervention results (F = 4.689, P = 0.043, η2 = 0.190). Following the intervention, the NHE&SLD group displayed marked changes in the active straight leg raising angle on both left (T = − 4.171, P = 0.004) and right (T = − 6.328, P = 0.001) sides. The FBE&SLL group also revealed significant changes in the active straight leg raising angle on both left (T = − 4.506, P = 0.003) and right (T = − 4.633, P = 0.002) sides following the intervention. The pre-intervention left leg concentric strength test value significantly influenced the post-intervention outcomes (F = 25.067, P = 0.001, η2 = 0.556). Likewise, the pre-intervention right leg eccentric strength test value significantly influenced the post-intervention results (F = 85.338, P = 0.01, η2 = 0.810). Eccentric training can better enhance the flexibility and strength of hamstring muscles in dance students. Traditional stretching training significantly improves the flexibility of the hamstring muscles. Eccentric training has more training benefits than traditional stretching training. It is recommended for dance students to use eccentric training when increasing hamstring flexibility and strength.

Abstract Background Late-onset multiple acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (MADD) is the most common lipid storage myopathy. There are sex differences in fat metabolism and it is not known whether late-onset MADD affects men and women equally. Methods In this systematic review and meta-analysis, the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CNKI, CBM, and Wanfang databases were searched until 01/08/2023. Studies reporting sex distribution in patients with late-onset MADD were included. Two authors independently screened studies for eligibility, extracted data, and assessed risk of bias. Pre-specified outcomes of interest were the male-to-female ratio (MFR) of patients with late-onset MADD, the differences of clinical characteristics between the sexes, and factors influencing the MFR. Results Of 3379 identified studies, 34 met inclusion criteria, yielding a total of 609 late-onset MADD patients. The overall pooled percentage of males was 58% (95% CI, 54-63%) with low heterogeneity across studies (I 2 = 2.99%; P = 0.42). The mean onset ages, diagnostic delay, serum creatine kinase (CK), and allelic frequencies of 3 hotspot variants in ETFDH gene were similar between male and female patients (P > 0.05). Meta-regressions revealed that ethnic group was associated with the MFR in late-onset MADD, and subgroup meta-analyses demonstrated that East-Asian patients had a higher percentage of male, lower CK, and higher proportion of hotspot variants in ETFDH gene than non-East-Asian patients (P

To analyze the episodic alteration of Middle Permian carbonate reservoirs by complex hydrothermal fluid in southwestern Sichuan Basin, petrology, geochemistry, fluid inclusion and U-Pb dating researches are conducted. The fractures and vugs of Middle Permian Qixia–Maokou formations are filled with multi-stage medium−coarse saddle dolomites and associated hydrothermal minerals, which indicates that the early limestone/dolomite episodic alteration was caused by the large-scale, high-temperature, deep magnesium-rich brine along flowing channels such as basement faults or associated fractures under the tectonic compression and napping during the Indosinian. The time of magnesium-rich hydrothermal activity was from the Middle Triassic to the Late Triassic. The siliceous and calcite fillings were triggered by hydrothermal alteration in the Middle and Late Yanshanian Movement and Himalayan Movement. Hydrothermal dolomitization is controlled by fault, hydrothermal property, flowing channel and surrounding rock lithology, which occur as equilibrium effect of porosity and permeability. The thick massive grainstone/dolomites were mainly altered by modification such as hydrothermal dolomitization/recrystallization, brecciation and fracture-vugs filling. Early thin–medium packstones were mainly altered by dissolution and infilling of fracturing, bedding dolomitization, dissolution and associated mineral fillings. The dissolved vugs and fractures are the main reservoir space under hydrothermal conditions, and the connection of dissolved vugs and network fractures is favorable for forming high-quality dolomite reservoir. Hydrothermal dolomite reservoirs are developed within a range of 1 km near faults, with a thickness of 30–60 m. Hydrothermal dolomite reservoirs with local connected pore/vugs and fractures have exploration potential.

Gas cannon is a new type of equipment used for rainfall enhancement operating which comprehensively utilizes the influence of shock waves, sound waves, and catalysts to interfere with and catalyze local weather. At present, the use of gas cannons to conduct artificial weather operations in China is still in the experimental stage. Based on multi-source observations from dual-polarization weather radar, rain gauges and other equipment, the rainfall enhancement effect and the possible physical mechanism are comprehensively analyzed for 81 gas cannon operation cases in Anhui Province from 2021 to 2023. Observations of typical cases show that the effect of rainfall enhancement is better when the gas cannon is operated prior to the onset of rainfall, accompanied by an increase in the horizontal reflectivity factor ZH and the differential reflectivity ZDR, and the decrease in the co-polarization correlation coefficient ρhv. However, the effectiveness is poor when the operation is after the start of rainfall. It is observed that the cloud undergoes significant changes primarily in the sub-zero layer following the use of warm cloud catalyst, and the cloud changes rapidly but effects are short-lived. On the other hand, when a cold cloud catalyst is used, the cloud undergoes obvious changes in both the warm cloud region and the cold cloud region with a greater effecting range and longer duration of effects. This may be attributed to the impact of the cold cloud catalyst on the ice phase microphysical processes within the cloud. The increase in radar velocity spectrum width (SW) during the operation of a gas cannon may be caused by the increase in air vortex. Statistical results of hourly rainfall enhancement show that the number of cases of significant rainfall enhancement from the gas cannon is slightly higher than that of significant rainfall reduction. Among the three different types of operation timing, the rainfall enhancement effect is best for Type 2 (rainfall operation at the beginning). The significance of rainfall enhancement is negatively correlated with the duration of the operation, while the duration of the operation is negatively correlated with the increment of ZDR. Excessive sowing can lead to a reduction in rainfall. The significance of rainfall enhancement is negatively correlated with the amount of rainfall in the affected area prior to the operation. After the beginning of rainfall, the operational effectiveness of the gas cannon is poor. The rainfall enhancement is positively correlated with ZH, as well as with middle and low-level wind speed and wind shear. However, the enhancement of rainfall is negatively correlated with high-level wind speed. The high wind speed in the middle and high levels is not conducive to enhancing the rainfall through gas cannon operation. These results provide physical evidence for the effect of a gas cannon on cloud microphysical structure and rainfall.

Abstract Background Integrative Chinese and Western medicine (ICWM) is commonly used for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) in clinical practice. However, it is unclear whether the details of ICWM interventions, such as selection rationale, implementation design, and potential interactions, were adequately reported. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the quality of reporting in the ICWM interventional randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of UC and to identify the common problems if any. Methods Through a search of 10 international electronic databases, we identified RCTs of UC with ICWM interventions published in English or Chinese from the inception date of each database up to 16 June 2023. Literature screening was strictly conducted based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the Population, Concept, and Context (PCC) framework. The general characteristics of the included studies were described. The quality of reporting was assessed according to three checklists, including the CONSORT (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials) with 36 items (except for one item 1b about abstract), the CONSORT for Abstracts (17 items), and a self-designed ICWM-related checklist (27 items covering design rationale, intervention details, outcome assessments, and analysis). The reporting scores of RCTs published before and after 2010 were compared. Results A total of 1458 eligible RCTs were included. For the reporting compliance, the median score (interquartile ranges) of the CONSORT (72 score in total), the CONSORT for Abstract (34 score), and ICWM-related (54 score) items was 21 (18–25), 13 (12–15), and 18 (15–21), respectively. This study examined how adding extruded highland barley flour (EHBF) affects the thermomechanical properties of wheat flour dough and the overall quality of fresh wet noodles. EHBF increased the gel strength and pasting temperature of wheat flour compared to regular highland barley flour. Moreover, higher EHBF levels reduced dough development time and stability time. EHBF improved the color and springiness of fresh wet noodles and decreased their cooking time and light transmittance relative to the color and springiness of the noodles in the control group. Notably, noodles with 20% EHBF showed a compact microstructure and received the highest sensory evaluation score. Adding EHBF lowered the estimated glycemic index of fresh wet noodles by reducing rapidly digestible starch and increasing slowly digestible starch and resistant starch contents. Thus, EHBF is a promising functional ingredient for enhancing the quality of fresh wet noodles.

This study works on the spontaneous recombination mechanisms of GaN-based laser diodes (LDs) under low injection current by examining their power–current (P–I) curves and electroluminescence spectra. Our investigation focuses on the behavior of differential efficiency in LDs under low injection current, revealing that a competition between impurity-related yellow emissions and band-edge blue emissions leads to a change in total luminescence efficiency. Using both experimental and simulating methods, the yellow emission peak is primarily attributed to carrier recombination in deep-level defects located on the LD's p-side. A detailed explanation to the differential efficiency changing mechanism is beneficial to improve the GaN-based LD performance in future fabrication.

IntroductionThe effectiveness of ultra-high pressure (UHP) technology in retaining the flavor of fresh fruit and vegetable juices has been acknowledged in recent years. Along with previously hypothesized conclusions, the improvement in melon juice flavor may be linked to the reduction of its surface tension through UHP.MethodsIn this paper, the particle size, free-water percentage, and related thermodynamic parameters of melon juice were evaluated in a physical point for a deeper insight.ResultsThe results showed that the UHP treatment of P2-2 (200 MPa for 20 min) raised the free water percentage by 7,000 times than the other treatments and both the melting enthalpy, binding constant and Gibbs free energy of P2-2 were minimized. This significantly increased the volatility of characteristic aromatic compounds in melon juice, resulting in a 1.2-5 times increase in the content of aromatic compounds in the gas phase of the P2-2 group compared to fresh melon juice.

In this paper, the transport behavior of carriers between multiple quantum wells (vertical) and inside a single quantum well (radial) in a GaN-based Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) is investigated, and a new device structure with a hole storage layer is proposed to enhance the laser performance. The theoretical results indicate that the vertical transport capability of holes is the key factor for total stimulated recombination rate and hole leakage. The VCSEL with a double-QW structure exhibits better output performance compared to the devices with three or more QWs owing to the lower light absorption loss and the stronger optical field in the active region. Furthermore, a thicker undoped GaN layer is proposed to be added as the hole storage layer to mitigate hole leakage for the VCSEL with a double-QW structure. This new structure can increase the tilt of energy band in the region of the hole storage layer and effectively improve the uniformity of radial distribution of holes in QWs. Therefore, it is beneficial to reduce the threshold current and enhance the laser output power.

Abstract Pathological cardiac hypertrophy is the leading cause of heart failure and has an extremely complicated pathogenesis. TEA domain transcription factor 1 (TEAD1) is recognized as an important transcription factor that plays a key regulatory role in cardiovascular disease. This study aimed to explore the role of TEAD1 in cardiac hypertrophy and to clarify the regulatory role of small ubiquitin‐like modifier (SUMO)‐mediated modifications. First, the expression level of TEAD1 in patients with heart failure, mice, and cardiomyocytes is investigated. It is discovered that TEAD1 is modified by SUMO1 during cardiac hypertrophy and that the process of deSUMOylation is regulated by SUMO‐specific protease 1 (SENP1). Lysine 173 is an essential site for TEAD1 SUMOylation, which affects the protein stability, nuclear localization, and DNA‐binding ability of TEAD1 and enhances the interaction between TEAD1 and its transcriptional co‐activator yes‐associated protein 1 in the Hippo pathway. Finally, adeno‐associated virus serotype 9 is used to construct TEAD1 wild‐type and KR mutant mice and demonstrated that the deSUMOylation of TEAD1 markedly exacerbated cardiomyocyte enlargement in vitro and in a mouse model of cardiac hypertrophy. The results provide novel evidence that the SUMOylation of TEAD1 is a promising therapeutic strategy for hypertrophy‐related heart failure.

Purpose: This study aimed to develop and validate a physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) model for osimertinib (OSI) to predict plasma trough concentration (Ctrough) and pulmonary EGFRm+ (T790M and L858R mutants) inhibition in Caucasian, Japanese, and Chinese populations. The PBPK model was also utilized to investigate inter-ethnic and inter-patient differences in OSI pharmacokinetics (PK) and determine optimal dosing regimens.Methods: Population PBPK models of OSI for healthy and disease populations were developed using physicochemical and biochemical properties of OSI and physiological parameters of different groups. And then the PBPK models were validated using the multiple clinical PK and drug-drug interaction (DDI) study data.Results: The model demonstrated good consistency with the observed data, with most of prediction-to-observation ratios of 0.8–1.25 for AUC, Cmax, and Ctrough. The PBPK model revealed that plasma exposure of OSI was approximately 2-fold higher in patients compared to healthy individuals, and higher exposure observed in Caucasians compared to other ethnic groups. This was primarily attributed to a lower CL/F of OSI in patients and Caucasian. The PBPK model displayed that key factors influencing PK and EGFRm+ inhibition differences included genetic polymorphism of CYP3A4, CYP1A2 expression, plasma free concentration (fup), albumin level, and auto-inhibition/induction on CYP3A4. Inter-patient PK variability was most influenced by CYP3A4 variants, fup, and albumin level. The PBPK simulations indicated that the optimal dosing regimen for patients across the three populations of European, Japanese, and Chinese ancestry was OSI 80 mg once daily (OD) to achieve the desired range of plasma Ctrough (328–677 nmol/L), as well as 80 mg and 160 mg OD for desirable pulmonary EGFRm+ inhibition (>80%).Conclusion: In conclusion, this study’s PBPK simulations highlighted potential ethnic and inter-patient variability in OSI PK and EGFRm+ inhibition between Caucasian, Japanese, and Chinese populations, while also providing insights into optimal dosing regimens of OSI.

In order to alleviate the problem of low proportion of new energy absorption in microgrids and reduce the operating cost of the system, this paper proposes an optimal dispatching method of microgrids considering new energy consumption. Firstly, a wind–solar diesel-storage microgrid model is established by combining data on wind energy, solar energy resources, and local loads in a specific region. Secondly, subsystems, including multiple distributed energy resources, are modeled and analyzed. Then, the cost and renewable energy absorption rate are taken as the objective function and their constraints are determined, and the particle swarm algorithm is used to solve the multi-objective. Finally, the capacity optimization and dispatch of the microgrid system, which includes wind, solar, diesel, gas, and energy storage, are obtained. This article also proposes an improved Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm that exhibits better convergence properties compared to existing methods. The enhanced algorithm aligns with the rapid scheduling of individual microgrid units discussed in this paper, ensuring system economics while facilitating the integration of new energy sources. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified with examples.

Abstract Allicin exhibits various pharmacological activities and has been suggested to be beneficial in the treatment of stroke. However, the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown. Here, we confirmed that allicin protected the brain from cerebral injury, which could be ascribed to its anti‑apoptotic and anti‑inflammatory effects, as well as the regulation of lipid metabolism, using proteomics and metabolomics analysis. Our results suggested that allicin could significantly ameliorate behavioral characteristics, cerebral infarct area, cell apoptosis, inflammatory factors, and lipid metabolic-related factors (arachidonic acid, 15-hydroperoxy-eicosatetraenoic acid (15S-HPETE), palmitoylcarnitine, and acylcarnitine) by recalibrating astrocyte homeostasis in mice with photothrombotic stroke (PT). In astrocytes, allicin significantly increased glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPX1) levels and inhibited the arachidonic acid-related pathway, which was also observed in the brains of mice with PT. Allicin was proven to inhibit hypoxia-induced astrocyte apoptosis by increasing GPX1 expression, activating proto-oncogene tyrosine-protein kinase Src (Src)- protein kinase B (AKT)-extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) phosphorylation, and decreasing lipid peroxidation. Thus, we concluded that allicin significantly prevented and ameliorated ischemic stroke by increasing GPX1 levels to complete the complex physiological process.

In this study, the behavioral ethogram of Amphiprion clarkii during the growth phase prior to sexual differentiation was summarized based on behavioral observations in three social environments. These behaviors can be classified into four categories: in addition to normal behaviors, the other three categories of behaviors—threatening, agonistic, and appeasing behaviors—represent different intentions in interactions with other individuals. Subsequently, the personalities of each individual were assessed by testing their reactions to intruders. These individuals mainly exhibited two distinct personality types: bold-aggressive and shy-submissive. In pairing experiments, the interactive behaviors of the anemonefish were observed in pairing combinations of different body sizes and personalities. The impact of personality on the establishment of a stable social hierarchy was confirmed by significant differences in the success rates of different pairing combinations, with the frequency of appeasing behaviors being the main factor influencing the success rate. Our results suggested that in natural waters, when juvenile individuals migrate among host anemones, shy-submissive individuals are more likely to be accepted due to their appeasing behaviors towards larger individuals, thus avoiding the risk of being attacked and bitten, and benefiting the survival of the individual. Conversely, bold-aggressive individuals are more likely to be driven away to another host anemone due to their unwillingness to settle for a lower-ranked status, thereby contributing to population dispersal and increasing opportunities for gene exchange between populations.

This study sought to explore potential roles of endothelial ferroptosis in radiation-associated atherosclerosis (RAA) and molecular mechanisms behind this phenomenon. Here, an in vivo RAA mouse model was used and treated with ferroptosis inhibitors. We found that the RAA group had a higher plaque burden and a reduction in endothelial cells with increased lipid peroxidation compared to the control group, while ameliorated by liproxstatin-1. In vitro experiments further confirmed that radiation induced the occurrence of ferroptosis in human artery endothelial cells (HAECs). Then, proteomics analysis of HAECs identified domain-containing protein 2 (DDHD2) as a co-differentially expressed protein, which was enriched in the lipid metabolism pathway. In addition, the level of lipid peroxidation was elevated in DDHD2-knockdown HAECs. Mechanistically, a significant decrease in the protein and mRNA expression of glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) was observed in HAECs following DDHD2 knockdown. Co-immunoprecipitation assays indicated a potential interaction between DDHD2 and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2). The downregulation of Nrf2 protein was also detected in DDHD2-knockdown HAECs. In conclusion, our findings suggest that radiation-induced endothelial ferroptosis accelerates atherosclerosis, and DDHD2 is a potential regulatory protein in radiation-induced endothelial ferroptosis through the Nrf2/GPX4 pathway.

Evaluating critical face pressure with high accuracy is an important topic for shield tunneling. The existing research focuses more on the influence of complex geological conditions or environmental factors, and there are few reports on the influence of tunnel shape on critical face pressure. In reality, the tunnel shape has a significant impact on the deformation zone in front of the tunnel face, which may lead to non-negligible differences in shield pressure. To fill this gap, an efficient analytical approach is proposed to estimate the critical face pressure considering different tunnel shapes in the framework of limit analysis. As earthquakes are potential threats to the tunnel face stability in seismically active regions, the seismic effect is also taken into account with the help of the pseudo-static method. Several cases with the same area but different tunnel shapes are investigated using the limit analysis method. A comparison with static analysis is given to highlight the influence of seismic forces on the tunnel face stability. The results show that the critical face pressures increase by 15.3% when the tunnel face shape changes from rectangular to circular, and by 23.5% when the horizontal seismic coefficient varies from 0 to 0.1. A further validation with a 3D finite difference method is performed with respect to four typical tunnel shapes considered in this study. Lastly, several stability charts are provided for a quick estimation of the critical tunnel face pressure subjected to seismic forces. It is concluded that the proposed method can be applied to a tunnel stability assessment of various cross-sections and is highly efficient compared with numerical simulations.

Abstract Background Weight management has been an important component of the service in obstetric care offered to pregnant women. Current gestational weight gain recommendations were primarily for the general obstetric population, raising concern about the applicability to women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). We aimed to assess the difference in weight progression and adherence to the recommended gestational weight gain targets between women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and women with normal glucose tolerance (NGT). Methods This was a hospital-based retrospective study of 56,616 pregnant women (9,430 GDM women and 47,186 NGT women) from Guangzhou between 2017 and 2021. The average change in weight progression was estimated based on serial weight measurements throughout pregnancy, using a mixed effects model with a random intercept to account for repeated measures of the same individual. Results Women with GDM gained less weight (12.07 [SD 5.20] kg) than women with NGT (14.04 [SD 5.04] kg) throughout pregnancy. [Introduction] Speeding up the offshore wind power construction and development is of great significance to promoting the adjustment of China's energy structure. China is accelerating the process of its wind power development in the entire offshore area, and the geological survey is a vital foundation and key technology of offshore wind power development. [Method] By studying the marine geological survey technologies at home and abroad and combining years of experience in different sea areas, this paper proposed a new technology of engineering geological modeling for offshore wind power development based on the principle of consistency. Firstly, the survey equipment selection and survey line layout started from a three-dimensional initial model to evaluate the impact of geological changes and geohazards on the offshore wind power engineering construction and took into full account the ship selection, field in situ and laboratory tests, and correlation of geophysical prospecting and geotechnical data. Then, with abundant and continuous data obtained from the boreholes and the whole wind farm during the feasibility study and detailed survey, the methods of combination of indoor geotechnical tests with the in-situ tests, the combination of multiple geophysical prospecting devices and the combination of geotechnical and geophysical prospecting methods were used to conduct a consistency analysis of various data, manage the geological survey data platform, update the model and build the final model, and the engineering geological model was continuously optimized and iterated in the subsequent stages. The engineering geological model provided comprehensive engineering geological information for the entire life cycle of offshore wind farm design, installation, operation, maintenance and decommissioning. [Result] The research results and offshore wind power geological survey examples show that by conducting consistent comprehensive layout and data analysis, effectively connecting geotechnical investigation with engineering geophysical prospecting and constructing a three-dimensional crossing engineering geological model, it can effectively solve the problem of "ambiguities of geological survey data" and improve the reliability, accuracy and application of geological survey data. [Conclusion] The new method proposed is one of the effective methods to reduce cost and increase efficiency in offshore engineering as well as the embryonic form of digital twin of offshore wind power geological survey and the foundation for the construction of a geological survey big data base.

Abstract Background Multiple carpometacarpal fractures and dislocations are rare. This case report describes a novel multiple carpometacarpal injury, namely, ‘diagonal’ carpometacarpal joint fracture and dislocation. Case presentation A 39-year-old male general worker sustained a compression injury to his right hand in the dorsiflexion position. Radiography indicated a Bennett fracture, hamate fracture, and fracture at the base of the second metacarpal. Subsequent computed tomography and intraoperative examination confirmed an injury to the first to fourth carpometacarpal joint along a diagonal line. The normal anatomy of the patient’s hand was successfully restored via open reduction combined with Kirschner wire and steel plate fixation. Conclusion Our findings highlight the importance of taking the injury mechanism into account to avoid a missed diagnosis and to choose the best treatment approach. This is the first case of ‘diagonal’ carpometacarpal joint fracture and dislocation to be reported in the literature.

Background: The CONSORT Extension for Chinese Herbal Medicine Formula 2017 (CONSORT-CHM Formula 2017) has established a reporting standard for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of Chinese Herbal Medicine Formula (CHMF) interventions; however, its adherence and implications for the design and execution of study design remain ambiguous. It is necessary to evaluate the level of compliance with the CONSORT-CHM Formula 2017 in RCTs conducted over the past 5 years, and to determine the reporting quality of clinical trials in this field.Methods: First, a systematic search is conducted for RCTs on CHMF in EBM Reviews, Allied and Complementary Medicine (AMED), Embase, Ovid-MEDLINE(R), Wanfang data, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP Chinese Medical Journal Database (VIP) and Chinese Biomedical Literature (CBM) database, that encompassed CHMF interventional RCTs published from 1 January 2018 to 8 June 2022, with language restriction to English or Chinese. Second, a descriptive analysis will be performed regarding the study design and general characteristics of the included trials. Third, for the quality assessment, we have subdivided the CONSORT-CHM Formula 2017 checklist (consisting of 22 extended items) into a total of 42 sub-questions to facilitate scoring, with a specific focus on the description, quality control, and safety assessment of CHMF interventions. Professional training and a pilot test on 100 randomly selected articles will be provided for all reviewers. Throughout this process, a standard operating procedure (SOP) for quality assessment will be developed to ensure consistency. Each item will be assessed by two reviewers in a paired back-to-back manner, and the compliance rate will be calculated to assess inter-rater agreement.Discussion: This review will identify the current reporting characteristics and quality of CHMF interventional studies and further evaluate the impact of CONSORT-CHM Formula 2017. The results may provide suggestions for future application or promotion of the guideline.Registration: The study has been registered on Open Science Framework (https://osf.io/xpn7f).

Background. Stroke is a common and frequently occurring disease among middle-aged and elderly people, with approximately 55%−75% of patients remaining with upper limb dysfunction. How to promote the recovery of motor function at an early stage is crucial to the life of the patient. Objectives. This study aimed to investigate whether high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS) of the primary motor cortex (M1) functional area in poststroke patients in the subacute phase is more effective in improving upper limb function than conventional tDCS. Methods. This randomized, sham-controlled clinical trial included 69 patients with subcortical stroke. They were randomly divided into the HD-tDCS, anodal tDCS (a-tDCS), and sham groups. Each group received 20 sessions of stimulation. The patients were assessed using the Action Research Arm Test, Fugl–Meyer score for upper extremities, Motor Function Assessment Scale, and modified Barthel index (MBI) pretreatment and posttreatment. Results. The intragroup comparison scores improved after 4 weeks of treatment. The HD-tDCS group showed a slightly greater, but nonsignificant improvement as compared to a-tDCS group in terms of mean change observed in function of trained items. The MBI score of the HD-tDCS group was maintained up to 8 weeks of follow-up and was higher than that in the a-tDCS group. Conclusion. Both HD-tDCS and a-tDCS can improve upper limb motor function and daily activities of poststroke patients in the subacute stage. This trial is registered with ChiCTR2000031314.

Objective. Large-scale studies on the characteristics and management of abdominal trauma in megacities in China are lacking. The aim of this study was to analyze and present the clinical patterns and treatment status of abdominal trauma in regional medical centers. Methods. Cases of abdominal trauma treated at seven medical centers in Beijing from 2010 to 2021 were collected. Clinical information about age, sex, injury cause, geographic distribution, abbreviated injury scale/injury severity score (AIS/ISS) value, injury-hospital time, preoperative time, surgically identified organ injuries, type of surgery, causes of reoperation and 90-day mortality was included in this study. Clinical characteristics, treatment methods, and short-term prognoses (90-days survival) were compared between blunt abdominal trauma (BAT) and penetrating abdominal trauma (PAT) cases. Non-normally distributed data are described as medians (IQR), and the Mann‒Whitney U test was performed; qualitative data were analyzed using the X2 test. Univariate and multivariate survival analyses were performed by the Cox proportional hazards model. Results. A total of 553 patients (86.98% male) with a median age of 36.50 (27.00–48.00) years were included. The BAT group had a significantly higher proportion of serious injury (P=0.001), lower initial hemoglobin level (P=0.001), and a lower laparoscopy surgery rate (P=0.044) compared to the PAT group. Additionally, more BAT cases were from the area around Beijing (P=0.008) and a longer injury-regional hospital time (10.47 (5.18–22.51) hours vs. 7.00 (3.80–15.38) hours, P=0.001). In the hollow viscus injury subgroup, the BAT group had a significantly longer injury-regional hospital time and preoperative time compared to the PAT group (injury-regional hospital time: 10.23 (6.00–21.59) hours vs. 7.07 (3.99–13.85) hours, P=0.002; preoperative time: 3.02 (2.01–5.58) hours vs. 2.81 (1.85–3.63) hours, P=0.047). The overall 90-day mortality was 11.9%, and longer injury-regional hospital time (HR: 1.01, 95% CI: 1.00–1.02, P=0.008), receipt of ICU treatment (HR: 4.69, 95% CI: 2.54–8.65, P=0.001), and severe ISSs (ISS > 25 vs. ISS

Summary: Background: Ablation has been recommended by worldwide guidelines as first-line treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), while evidence regarding its efficacy for primary intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) is lacking. We aimed to study the efficacy of ablation in treating iCCA by comparing its prognosis with surgery. Methods: In this real-world multicenter cohort study from January 2009 to June 2022, 10,441 iCCA patients from ten tertiary hospitals were identified. Patients who underwent curative-intent microwave ablation (MWA) or liver resection (LR) for tumors within Milan criteria were included. One-to-many propensity score matching (PSM) at variable ratios (1:n ≤4) was used to balance baseline characteristics. Mediation analysis was applied to identify potential mediators of the survival difference. Findings: 944 patients were finally enrolled in this study, with 221 undergoing MWA and 723 undergoing LR. After PSM, 203 patients in the MWA group were matched with 588 patients in the LR group. The median follow-up time was 4.7 years. Compared with LR, MWA demonstrated similar overall survival (5-year 44.8% versus 40.4%; HR 0.96, 95% CI 0.71–1.29, P = .761). There was an improvement in the 5-year disease-free survival rate for MWA from 17.1% during the period of 2009–2016 to 37.3% during 2017–2022, becoming comparable to the 40.8% of LR (P = .129). The MEMS inclinometer integrates a tri-axis accelerometer and a tri-axis gyroscope to solve the perceived dynamic inclinations through a complex data fusion algorithm, which has been widely used in the fields of industrial, aerospace, and monitoring. In order to ensure the validity of the measurement results of MEMS inclinometers, it is necessary to determine their dynamic performance parameters. This study proposes a conical motion-based MEMS inclinometer dynamic testing method, and the motion includes the classical conical motion, the attitude conical motion, and the dual-frequency conical motion. Both the frequency response and drift angle of MEMS inclinometers can be determined. Experimental results show that the conical motions can accelerate the angle drift of MEMS inclinometers, which makes them suitable for dynamic testing ofMEMSinclinometers. Additionally, the tilt sensitivity deviation of theMEMS inclinometer by the proposed method and the turntable-based method is less than 0.26 dB.We further provide the research for angle drift and provide discussion.

Based on the comprehensive analysis of core, thin section, logging and seismic data, this study carried out the identification and comparison of Permian Changxing Formation sequences, clarified the typical sedimentary architectures of intra-platform shoal, investigated the vertical and horizontal development and distribution of intra-platform shoal in each sequence, and thus established the sedimentary evolution model of shoal body. The study results are reflected in four aspects. First, there are two complete third-order sequences (SQ1 and SQ2) in Changxing Formation in central Sichuan Basin. SQ1 is generally thick in the north and thin in the south, and SQ2 shows a thickness differentiation trend of “two thicknesses and three thinnesses”. Second, the Changxing Formation in central Sichuan Basin mainly develops intra-platform shoal, inter-shoal sea and intra-platform depression subfacies. In the vertical direction, the intra-platform shoal mainly presents two typical sedimentary sequences: stable superposed and high-frequency interbedded. Third, the stable superimposed sedimentary sequence is developed in the shoal belt at the edge of intra-platform depression, which is composed of two shoal-forming periods and located in the highstand systems tracts (HSTs) of SQ1 and SQ2. The high-frequency interbedded sedimentary sequence is developed in the southern shoal belt of intra-platform depression, which is composed of four shoal-forming periods and mainly located in the HST of SQ2. Fourth, during the SQ1 deposition, the intra-platform shoal was mainly developed at the edge of the intra-platform depression on the north side of the study area, and the inter-shoal sea subfacies was mainly developed on the south side. During the SQ2 deposition, the intra-platform shoal was widely developed in the area, forming two nearly parallel intra-platform shoal belts. The study results provide direction and ideas for exploration of Changxing Formation intra-platform shoal reservoirs in central Sichuan Basin.

In 2012, China's first national shale gas demonstrations areas were set up in the Sichuan Basin. After 10 years' construction and practice, the giant marine shale gas area of 10 × 1012 m3 level is built up in the Sichuan Basin, and shale gas steps into a new stage of large-scale benefit exploration and development. In order to systematically summarize the achievements in shale gas exploration and development and provide guidance and reference for the exploration and development of deep shale gas and shale oil & gas in other areas, this paper systematically summarizes the main characteristics, development models and key identification and evaluation technologies for quality reservoirs of Wufeng Formation–Longmaxi Formation shale gas by analyzing the electric property, lithofacies, reservoir parameters and microscopic porosity of key wells in the basin. And the following research results are obtained. First, biogenetic siliceous shale, calcareous shale and mixed shale are main lithofacies types in quality shale gas reservoirs, and they are formed in the environment of semi-deep and deep water continental shelf. Their lateral distribution is controlled by the paleogeomorphology and their vertical development is influenced by provenance, redox condition and paleo productivity. They are 25–90 m thick. Second, in the quality shale gas reservoirs develop organic pores, inorganic pore and microfractures (including lamina/bedding fractures), among which, organic pore is one of the main reservoir spaces and microfracture is not only indispensable reservoir space, but also production pathway. The reservoir space of shale gas is overall micro-nano pore, and macropores play an important role in shale gas enrichment. Third, three development models of quality reservoir are established, including sedimentary type, diagenesis type and reworking type. The sedimentary type is the foundation. Multiple quality reservoirs are developed in the high U/Th interval of graptolite belt at the bottom of Longmaxi Formation, and their thickness is mainly controlled by paleogeomorphology and especially greater in the depression area. The diagenesis type is divided into three forms, i.e., syngenetic-early diagenetic rigid support, middle-late diagenetic mineral-organic matter transformation, and overpressure relief compaction. The reworking type is dominated by quality reservoirs with microfractures. Fourth, the core technologies for identifying and evaluating quality shale gas reservoir include large-size core and rock slice observation, high-accuracy rock mineral identification, experimental gas content test and simulation, SEM microscopic characterization, 3D microscopic pore reconstruction, comprehensive geophysical interpretation and prediction and big data analysis. In conclusion, nearly 10 years' research and practice achievements in demonstration area construction can deepen the understanding on domestic quality shale gas reservoirs, promote the effective development of the theories and technologies related to shale gas reservoirs, improve the prediction accuracy of shale gas sweet spot zones/intervals, and expand the shale gas exploration and development achievements of demonstration areas.

This study explores the effects of growth temperature of InGaN/GaN quantum well (QW) layers on indium migration, structural quality, and luminescence properties. It is found that within a specific range, the growth temperature can control the efficiency of In incorporation into QWs and strain energy accumulated in the QW structure, modulating the luminescence efficiency. Temperature-dependent photoluminescence (TDPL) measurements revealed a more pronounced localized state effect in QW samples grown at higher temperatures. Moreover, a too high annealing temperature will enhance indium migration, leading to an increased density of non-radiative recombination centers and a more pronounced quantum-confined Stark effect (QCSE), thereby reducing luminescence intensity. These findings highlight the critical role of thermal management in optimizing the performance of InGaN/GaN MQWs in LEDs and other photoelectronic devices.

Introduction The cavernous sinus dural arteriovenous fistula(CS‐DAVF) is a vascular condition that is a result of an unusual connection between the carotid artery branches and the cavernous sinus. This condition could be the result of trauma, infection, or other medical problems. In the case that conservative therapy fails or patients need emergency intervention, endovascular treatment (EVT) has been proposed as a main option for the treatment of these patients. In this study, we aimed to investigate the outcomes of the patients who underwent EVT for CS‐DAVF. Methods To gather information on patient demographics, symptoms, clinical and imaging characteristics, as well as the type of EVT and their outcomes after EVT, we recruited records of patients of our center from 2007. We used descriptive analyses to assess the characteristics of the included cases. Besides, inferential statistics were used to develop univariate and multivariate logistic regression models to identify factors linked to procedural success and symptom resolution at the follow‐up. Results Overall, 59 patients with a mean age of 64.37 years, a female‐to‐male ratio of 2.71, and a mean follow‐up time of 42.64 months were included. Chemosis, ptosis, and diplopia were the most frequent symptoms, and most of the patients were classified as Barrow classification type D based on angiographic features (30/58). In terms of EVT, most of the patients (54/59) underwent transvenous embolization, and liquids (Onyx 34 and 18) were the most frequent materials that were used for embolization (55/59). Also, in 34 cases, additional coiling was performed. Overall, the procedural success rate was 84% (50 out of 59), and a complete resolution of symptoms was observed in 46 cases at the follow‐up, with the occurrence of eight complications overall (13.5%), including two strokes, two alopecia, one seizure, one cranial nerve palsy, one diplopia and one worsening of symptom events. Multiple logistic regression showed that the use of Onyx 34 was associated with procedural success. Conclusion Our results showed that EVT might be a safe and effective option for the treatment of patients with CS‐DAVF. Also, the results showed that the application of Onyx 34 might associate with the procedural success rate.

BackgroundTranscutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) emerges as a promising neuromodulatory technique. However, taVNS uses left ear stimulation in stroke survivors with either left or right hemiparesis. Understanding its influence on the cortical responses is pivotal for optimizing post-stroke rehabilitation protocols.ObjectiveThe primary objective of this study was to elucidate the influence of taVNS on cortical responses in stroke patients presenting with either left or right hemiparesis and to discern its potential ramifications for upper limb rehabilitative processes.MethodsWe employed functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to ascertain patterns of cerebral activation in stroke patients as they engaged in a “block transfer” task. Additionally, the Lateralization Index (LI) was utilized to quantify the lateralization dynamics of cerebral functions.ResultsIn patients exhibiting left-side hemiplegia, there was a notable increase in activation within the pre-motor and supplementary motor cortex (PMC-SMC) of the unaffected hemisphere as well as in the left Broca area. Conversely, those with right-side hemiplegia displayed heightened activation in the affected primary somatosensory cortex (PSC) region following treatment.Significantly, taVNS markedly amplified cerebral activation, with a pronounced impact on the left motor cortical network across both cohorts. Intriguingly, the LI showcased consistency, suggesting a harmonized enhancement across both compromised and uncompromised cerebral regions.ConclusionTaVNS can significantly bolster the activation within compromised cerebral territories, particularly within the left motor cortical domain, without destabilizing cerebral lateralization. TaVNS could play a pivotal role in enhancing upper limb functional restoration post-stroke through precise neuromodulatory and neuroplastic interventions.

Abstract Introduction Current approaches for treating sporadic Alzheimer's disease (sAD) focus on removal of amyloid beta 1‐42 (Aβ1‐42) or phosphorylated tau, but additional strategies are needed to reduce neuropathology at earlier stages prior to neuronal damage. Longstanding data show that calcium dysregulation is a key etiological factor in sAD, and the cortical neurons most vulnerable to tau pathology show magnified calcium signaling, for example in dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) and entorhinal cortex (ERC). In primate dlPFC and ERC, type 3 metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluR3s) are predominately post‐synaptic, on spines, where they regulate cAMP‐calcium signaling, a process eroded by inflammatory glutamate carboxypeptidase II (GCPII) actions. The current study tested whether enhancing mGluR3 regulation of calcium via chronic inhibition of GCPII would reduce tau hyperphosphorylation in aged macaques with naturally‐occurring tau pathology. Methods Aged rhesus macaques were treated daily with the GCPII inhibitor, 2‐MPPA (2‐3‐mercaptopropyl‐penanedioic acid (2‐MPPA)), Aged rhesus macaques were treated daily with the GCPII inhibitor, 2‐MPPA (2‐3‐mercaptopropyl‐penanedioic acid (2‐MPPA)), Results Aged macaques that received 2‐MPPA had significantly lower pT217Tau levels in dlPFC and ERC, and had lowered plasma pT217Tau levels from baseline. pT217Tau levels correlated significantly with GCPII activity in dlPFC. Both 2‐MPPA‐ and vehicle‐treated monkeys showed cognitive improvement; 2‐MPPA had no apparent side effects. Exploratory CSF analyses indicated reduced pS202Tau with 2‐MPPA administration, confirmed in dlPFC samples. Discussion These data provide proof‐of‐concept support that GCPII inhibition can reduce tau hyperphosphorylation in the primate cortices most vulnerable in sAD. GCPII inhibition may be particularly helpful in reducing the risk of sAD caused by inflammation. These data in nonhuman primates should encourage future research on this promising mechanism. Highlights Inflammation is a key driver of sporadic Alzheimer's disease. GCPII inflammatory signaling in brain decreases mGluR3 regulation of calcium. Chronic inhibition of GCPII inflammatory signaling reduced pT217Tau in aged monkeys. GCPII inhibition is a novel strategy to help prevent tau pathology at early stages.
