Due to the COVID-19 pandemic during spring semester 2020, teachers and students were forced to engage in online instruction. However, there is little evidence on the feasibility of online physiology teaching. This study demonstrated a 3-wk preliminary online physiology course based on Rain Classroom assisted by the mobile application WeChat. Eighty-seven nursing undergraduate students attended an online physiology course during the spring semester of the 2019-2020 academic year from March 9 to March 29. We determined the effects of the online physiology learning based on in-class tests, preclass preparation, and review rates for the course materials. We also measured the students' perceptions and attitudes about online learning with a questionnaire survey. Posttest scores from the first week to the third week in online physiology course (7.22 ± 1.83, 7.68 ± 2.09, and 6.21 ± 2.92, respectively) exceeded the pretest scores (5.32 ± 2.14, 6.26 ± 2.49, and 3.72 ± 2.22, respectively), and this finding was statistically significant (all P < 0.001). Moreover, the pretest scores were significant positive predictors of final grade (all P < 0.01). In addition, the percentage of preclass preparation increased in 3 wk, from 43.68% to 57.47% to 68.97%. From the first week to the third week, the review rate increased from 86.21% to 91.95%; however, the second week was the lowest of all (72.41%). Finally, students' perceptions about their online physiology learning experiences were favorable. In conclusion, online physiology instruction based on Rain Classroom assisted by WeChat was an effective strategy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: Depression is known as the "mental cold" and is also considered a major cause of disability worldwide. It is estimated that over 300 million people worldwide suffer from severe depression, equivalent to 4.4% of the world's population. The monoamine hypothesis of depression predicts the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of depression, but in‐depth research has failed to find convincing evidence. Method: In this study, we will dynamically and strictly quantitatively monitor the concentration changes of monoamine transmitters in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of macaques, based on our previous work. In the experiment, timed and quantitative collection of CSF samples from macaques was performed and the concentration of monoamine transmitters was determined. Result: The results showed that after 2 months of chronic stress, the concentrations of high vanillin acid (HVA) and 3,4‐dihydroxy‐phenylacetic acid were significantly higher in the maternal separation (MS) group, whereas there was no significant difference in dopamine and 5‐hydroxyindoleacetic acid. Conclusion: This study is the first to observe the long‐term dynamic relationship between early adversity, chronic stress, adolescent depression, and CSF monoamine concentrations. The research suggests that MS and chronic stress play an undeniable role in the pathogenesis of depression and that concentrations of HVA and dihydroxyphenylacetic acid are likely to serve as early markers of depressive‐like symptoms in macaques. Development of potent and broad‐spectrum drugs against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) remains one of the top priorities, especially in the cases of the emergence of mutant viruses and inability of current vaccines to prevent viral transmission. In this study, we have generated a novel membrane fusion‐inhibitory lipopeptide IPB29, which is currently under clinical trials; herein, we report its design strategy and preclinical data. First, we surprisingly found that IPB29 with a rigid linker between the peptide sequence and lipid molecule had greatly improved α‐helical structure and antiviral activity. Second, IPB29 potently inhibited a large panel of SARS‐CoV‐2 variants including the previously and currently circulating viruses, such as Omicron XBB.5.1 and EG.5.1. Third, IPB29 could also cross‐neutralize the bat‐ and pangolin‐isolated SARS‐CoV‐2‐related CoVs (RatG13, PCoV‐GD, and PCoV‐GX) and other human CoVs (SARS‐CoV, MERS‐CoV, HCoV‐NL63, and HCoV‐229E). Fourth, IPB29 administrated as an inhalation solution (IPB29‐IS) in Syrian hamsters exhibited high therapeutic and preventive efficacies against SARS‐CoV‐2 Delta or Omicron variant. Fifth, the pharmacokinetic profiles and safety pharmacology of IPB29‐IS were extensively characterized, providing data to support its evaluation in humans. In conclusion, our studies have demonstrated a novel design strategy for viral fusion inhibitors and offered an ideal drug candidate against SARS‐CoV‐2 and other coronaviruses. Gas sensors for ammonia (NH3) play a crucial role in the maintenance of air quality, preservation of the atmosphere, and evaluation of human health. However, the endeavor to attain a high level of sensitivity in detecting NH3 under ambient conditions remains a challenging task. In this work, poly(3‐hexylthiophene)s and titanium dioxide (P3HT‐TiO2) heterostructure NH3 gas‐sensitive material was prepared, and by drop‐casting the material onto a substrate with Au interdigital electrodes, a sensor for high‐response detection of NH3 at room temperature was constructed. The designed gas sensor exhibited a high response signal of 114.61 % toward 15 ppm NH3 at room temperature (25 °C) with good reproducibility, strong long‐term stability, and excellent selectivity. Moreover, by analyzing the response law of the sensor under different humidity conditions, it has been noted that both excessively high and excessively low levels of humidity adversely affect the sensor's response. The remarkable increase in NH3 sensing properties is attributed to the synergistic enhancement effect of P−N heterojunction formed between P3HT and TiO2. This NH3 gas sensor exhibits tremendous potential for use due to its straightforward structure and outstanding ammonia sensing performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective To explore the application value of treatment-related markers PD-L1, PD-L2, CD30, CD23, BCL-2, BCL-6, MUM1 and GATA3 in the diagnosis and prognostic evaluation of primary mediastinal B-cell lymphoma(PMBL). Methods A retrospective study was conducted on 34 patients diagnosed with PMBL, and 31 patients with DLBCL-NOS which was not primary in the mediastinum were taken as control group. The expressions of 8 proteins were detected by IHC staining. Results The median percentages of tumor cells with PD-L1, PD-L2 and CD30 expression in PMBL group were 70% (30%, 90%), 25% (0, 70%) and 17.5% (0, 60%) respectively, which were significantly higher than those in the DLBCL-NOS group (P < 0.05). The positive rates of CD30 and CD23 in PMBL group were 61.76% (21/34) and 76.47% (26/34) respectively, significantly different with those in the DLBCL-NOS group (P=0.000). The survival curve of PMBL patients with CD30 or BCL-6 expression showed a trend of poor prognosis, despite the P value was > 0.05. Conclusion The high expression levels of PD-L1, PD-L2 and CD30 in PMBL are helpful to accurately identify more patients who may respond to immune or targeted therapy. Immunohistochemical staining of PD-L1, PD-L2, CD30 and CD23 is helpful for the differential diagnosis of PMBL and DLBCL-NOS. As candidate prognostic indicators of PMBL, CD30 and BCL-6 should be further studied in a larger number of samples.
