Abstract

Service mesh is getting widely adopted as the cloud-native mechanism for traffic management in microservice-based applications, in particular for generic IT workloads hosted in more centralized cloud environments. Performance-demanding applications continue to drive the decentralization of modern application execution environments, as in the case of mobile edge cloud. This paper presents a systematic and qualitative analysis of state-of-the-art service mesh to evaluate how suitable its design is for addressing the traffic management needs of performance-demanding application workloads hosted in a mobile edge cloud environment. With this analysis, we argue that today's dependability-centric service mesh design fails at addressing the needs of the different types of emerging mobile edge cloud workloads and motivate further research in the directions of performance-efficient architectures, stronger QoS guarantees and higher complexity abstractions of cloud-native traffic management frameworks.

Abstract

The Ciarlet–Raviart mixed method is popular for the biharmonic equations/eigenvalue problem. In this paper, we propose a multigrid discretization based on the shifted‐inverse iteration of Ciarlet–Raviart mixed discontinuous Galerkin method for the biharmonic eigenvalue problem. We prove the a priori error estimates of the approximate eigenpairs. We also give the a posteriori error estimates of the approximate eigenvalues and prove the reliability of the estimator and implement adaptive computation. Numerical experiments show that our method can efficiently compute biharmonic eigenvalues. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

17. A multifunctional chitosan based porous membrane for pH-responsive antibacterial activity and promotion of infected wound healing.

Abstract

Unsatisfactory mechanical and antibacterial properties restricted the solo use of chitosan (CS) as a wound dressing. In this work, a novel CS/hydroxyapatite/ZIF-8 (CS/HAp/ZIF-8, CHZ-10) porous membrane was facilely constructed by in situ loading of ZIF-8 on CS/HAp. The advantages of the three compositions were rationally integrated, and the multifunctionality and practicality of this CS-based dressing were improved. HAp not only improved the mechanical strength and stability of CS, but also promoted cell proliferation and accelerated hemostasis with its released Ca2+. Meanwhile, ZIF-8 enhanced the antibacterial activity of CS by releasing antibacterial Zn2+ in a pH-responsive and sustainable manner, avoiding the bio-accumulation toxicity of heavy metals. Compared with CS/HAp and conventionally used gauze, CHZ-10 exhibited superior coagulation and hemolytic ability, as well as outstanding antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus. Besides, both in vivo observation and histological evaluation demonstrated that CHZ-10 could not only effectively inhibit bacterial infection and reduce inflammation of the wound, but also promote its re-epithelialization, granulation, tissue formation and collagen fibre growth, leading to effectively enhanced wound-healing. This work provides a new method for the easy construction of multifunctional antibacterial dressings based on CS, showing promise for application in clinical wound care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

41. MiR-598-3p functions as a tumor suppressor in pediatric T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia

Abstract

Purpose: To investigate the role of miR-598-3p in pediatric T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T- ALL). Methods: The expression of miR-598-3p in mononuclear cells isolated from the peripheral blood samples of children with or without T-ALL was assessed using real-time quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Cell viability or proliferation of T-ALL cell lines was evaluated using cell counting kit-8 assay or bromodeoxyuridine staining, respectively. The target gene of miR-598-3p was predicted and validated using luciferase reporter assay, while the underlying mechanism involved in miR-598-3p-mediated T-ALL was determined by western blot analysis. Results: MiR-598-3p was reduced in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells of T-ALL patients. Ectopic miR-598-3p expression decreased T-ALL cell viability and suppressed proliferation, while miR-598-3p interference showed reversed effects. Additionally, the target gene of miR-598-3p, Dishevelled, EGL-10, and Pleckstrin domain-containing mTOR-interacting protein (DEPTOR), was down-regulated by miR- 598-3p in T-ALL. MiR-598-3p decreased phospho (p)-AKT protein expression, while AKT inhibition counteracted the suppressive effects of miR-598-3p silencing on T-ALL cell viability and proliferation. Conclusion: MiR-598-3p/DEPTOR is involved in the proliferation of T-ALL through AKT pathway, thus providing a potential novel application in pediatric T-ALL.
