Abstract

Percutaneous endoscopic lumbar interbody fusion was a new technique that leads to improved visualization, improved safety and less trauma than does the traditional procedure. The purpose of this study was to introduce the technique of percutaneous endoscopic posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PE-PLIF) and determine its efficacy. 35 patients with an average age of 52.3±13.7 years were treated with single-segment PE-PLIF. The perioperative parameters and the radiographic parameters were measured. The visual analog scale (VAS) score for low back pain, VAS score for leg pain and Oswestry disability index (ODI) score were used to assess the levels of pain and function. The mean estimated volume of blood loss was 68.6±32.3 ml, operative time was 179.6±31.0 minutes. PE-PLIF significantly reduced the VAS score for low back pain, VAS score for leg pain and ODI score, and improved the posterior disc height, lumbar lordosis angle and segmental lordosis angle (p < 0.05). The rate of satisfaction was 94.3%. One patient suffered a dural tear. There was one case of contralateral radiculopathy that was relieved after conservative treatment. This research suggests that PE-PLIF is a minimally invasive, safe, and effective treatment for degenerative lumbar diseases requiring interbody fusion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

35. Multi-layer resource scheduling architecture and algorithm for a service-oriented optical network based on a fine grain OTN

Abstract

With the development of service, there are demands for flexible connection scheduling based on customer-side services, fast connection response, and efficient scheduling of line-side resources in an optical transport network (OTN). This article proposes a service-oriented multi-layer resource scheduling architecture and algorithm based on the introduction of OTN fine grain technology. Specifically, we propose a service awareness scheme that enables OTNs to better match service requirements. Based on a centralized distributed collaborative architecture, we extend a path computation element communication protocol (PCEP) to achieve more efficient connection distribution. We further design a resource scheduling strategy and an algorithm based on multi-layer collaboration to perform differentiated scheduling for services with different priorities. Through the mechanisms and algorithms proposed, it is technically feasible to achieve precise matching of customer-side services, flexible scheduling of connections and resources, and efficient service response, and promote the evolution of the OTN service supply from traditional fixed point-to-point connections to flexible service-oriented optical network (SOON) connections.

49. Conceptual Design Optimization for Handling Qualities Applied to Tiltrotor Aircraft in Conversion Mode

Abstract

A tiltrotor has the features of both a fixed-wing aircraft and a helicopter, thereby blending the vertical flight capabilities of helicopters with the speed, altitude, and range of fixed-wing aircraft. However, as an important aspect of piloted aircraft, the handling qualities of tiltrotor aircraft have not been studied extensively. This thesis presented a conceptual design and optimization framework to improve the handling qualities of the XV-15 tiltrotor aircraft. Handling qualities deficiencies of the XV-15 in conversion mode were investigated. The results in this thesis exhibited the influence of each design parameter on the handling qualities. The optimization results demonstrated that the handling qualities can be improved by adjusting the design parameters, but the increases in aircraft empty weight and power required are inevitable. The work done in this thesis contributes to the understanding of these design parameters' role in tiltrotor handling qualities, thus provides future tiltrotor designs with valuable knowledge., Aerospace Engineering
