Abstract

In this paper, we give the analytic expression for homogeneous part of solutions of arbitrary tree-level cosmological correlators, including massive propagators and time-derivative interactions cases. The solutions are given in the form of multivariate hypergeometric functions. It is achieved by two step. Firstly, we indicate the factorization of the homogeneous part of solutions, i.e., the homogeneous part of solutions of multiple vertices is the product of the solutions of the single vertex. Secondly, we give the solution to the $\text{d} \log$-form differential equations of arbitrary single vertex integral family. We also show how to determine the boundary conditions for the differential equations. There are two techniques we developed for the computation. Firstly, we analytically solve $\text{d} \log$-form differential equations via power series expansion. Secondly, we handle degenerate multivariate poles in power series expansion of differential equations by blow-up. They could also be useful in the evaluation of multi-loop Feynman integrals in flat spacetime., Comment: 33 pages, 1 figure

Abstract

We give an explanation of the $\mathrm{d}\log$-form of the coefficient matrix of canonical differential equations using the projection of ($n$+1)-$\mathrm{d}\log$ forms onto $n$-$\mathrm{d}\log$ forms. This projection is done using the leading-order formula for intersection numbers. This formula gives a simple way to compute the coefficient matrix. 3. Magnetized neutral 2SC color superconductivity and possible origin of the inner magnetic field of magnetars

Abstract

In this paper the neutral 2SC phase of color superconductivity is investigated in the presence of a magnetic field and for diquark coupling constants and baryonic densities that are expected to characterize neutron stars. Specifically, the behavior of the charged gluons Meissner masses is investigated in the parameter region of interest taking into account in addition the contribution of a rotated magnetic field. It is found that up to moderately-high diquark coupling constants the mentioned Meissner masses become tachyonic independently of the applied magnetic field amplitude, hence signalizing the chromomagnetic instability of this phase. To remove the instability, it is proposed the restructuring of the system ground state, which now will be formed by vortices of the rotated charged gluons. These vortices boost the applied magnetic field having the most significant increase for relatively low applied magnetic fields. Finally, considering that with the stellar rotational frequency observed for magnetars a field of order $10^8$ G can be generated by dynamo effect. Then, we show that by the boosting effect just described the field can be amplified to $10^{17}$ G that is in the range of inner core fields expected for magnetars. Thus, we conclude that the described mechanism could be the one responsible for the large fields characterizing magnetars if the core of this compact objects are formed by neutral 2SC matter., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures

4. Revisiting the measurements and interpretations of DLVO forces

Abstract

The DLVO theory and electrical double layer (EDL) theory are the foundation of colloid and interface science. With the invention and development of surface forces apparatus (SFA) and atomic force microscope (AFM), the measurements and interpretations of DLVO forces (i.e., mainly measuring the EDL force (electrostatic force) FEDL and van der Waals force FvdW, and interpreting the potential {\psi}, charge density {\sigma}, and Hamaker constant H) can be greatly facilitated by various surface force measurement techniques, and would have been very promising in advancing the DLVO theory, EDL theory, and colloid and interface science. However, although numerous studies have been conducted, pervasive anomalous results can be identified throughout the literature, main including: (1) the fitted {\psi}/{\sigma} is normally extremely small ({\psi} can be close to or (much) smaller than {\psi}{\zeta} (zeta potential)) and varies greatly; (2) the fitted {\psi}/{\sigma} can exceed the allowable range of calculation; and (3) the measured FvdW and the fitted H vary greatly. Based on rigorous and comprehensive arguments, we have reasonably explained the pervasive anomalous results in the literature and further speculated that, the pervasive anomalous results are existing but not noticed and questioned owing to the two important aspects: (1) the pervasive unreasonable understandings of EDL theory and (2) the commonly neglected systematic errors. Consequently, we believe that the related studies have been seriously hampered. We therefore call for re-examination and re-analysis of related experimental results and theoretical understandings by careful consideration of the EDL theory and systematic errors. Abstract

Single administration of low-dose ketamine has both acute and sustained anti-depressant effects. Sustained effect is associated with restoration of glutamatergic synapses in medial prefrontal cortic (mFPC) neurons. Ketamine induced profound changes in a number of molecular pathways in a mouse model for chronic stress. Cell-cell communication analyses predicted that planar-cell-polarity (PCP) signaling was decreased after chronic administration of corticosterone but increased following ketamine administration in most of the excitatory neurons. Similar decrease of PCP signaling in excitatory neurons was predicted in dorsolateral prefrontal cortical (dl-PFC) neurons of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). We showed that the basolateral amygdala (BLA)-projecting infralimbic prefrontal cortex (IL PFC) neurons regulate immobility time in the tail suspension test and food consumption. Conditionally knocking out Celsr2 and Celsr3 or Prickle2 in the BLA-projecting IL PFC neurons abolished ketamine-induced synapse restoration and behavioral remission. Therefore, PCP proteins in IL PFC-BLA neurons mediate synapse restoration induced by of low-dose ketamine.

In this paper we have studied the most general generating function of reduction for one loop integrals with arbitrary tensor structure in numerator and arbitrary power distribution of propagators in denominator. Using IBP relations, we have established the partial differential equations for these generating functions and solved them analytically. Abstract

BackgroundThe use of peer-to-peer online support groups and communities has grown into a social phenomenon. Many people use online support groups and communities to seek and provide social support. It is essential to examine how users’ participation behaviors may contribute to different outcomes. ObjectiveThis study aimed to (1) use the structural positions of online depression forum users in their reply network to predict received support and (2) examine their language use reflecting their health conditions. MethodsA total of 2061 users and their 62,274 replies posted on a depression forum from July 2004 to July 2014 were extracted using a web crawler written in Python. The content of the forum users’ posts and replies and their reply patterns were examined. A social network analysis method was used to build the reply networks of users. The computerized text analysis method was used to measure features of the forum users’ language styles. ResultsForum users’ bridging social capital (operationalized as network betweenness) was positively associated with the level of communication accommodation in their received replies (P=.04). Abstract

BackgroundDuring the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, engagement in preventive behaviors and getting tested for the virus play a crucial role in protecting people from contracting the new coronavirus. ObjectiveThis study aims to examine how internet use, risk awareness, and demographic characteristics are associated with engagement in preventative behaviors and testing during the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. MethodsA cross-sectional survey was conducted on Amazon Mechanical Turk from April 10, 2020, to April 14, 2020. Participants’ internet use (in terms of the extent of receiving information pertaining to COVID-19), risk awareness (whether any immediate family members, close friends or relatives, or people in local communities tested positive for COVID-19), demographics (sex, age, ethnicity, income, education level, marital status, and employment status), as well as their engagement in preventative behaviors and testing were assessed. ResultsOur data included 979 valid responses from the United States. 15. Using Reports of Symptoms and Diagnoses on Social Media to Predict COVID-19 Case Counts in Mainland China: Observational Infoveillance Study

Abstract

BackgroundCoronavirus disease (COVID-19) has affected more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. This disease poses an extraordinary challenge for public health systems because screening and surveillance capacity is often severely limited, especially during the beginning of the outbreak; this can fuel the outbreak, as many patients can unknowingly infect other people. ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to collect and analyze posts related to COVID-19 on Weibo, a popular Twitter-like social media site in China. To our knowledge, this infoveillance study employs the largest, most comprehensive, and most fine-grained social media data to date to predict COVID-19 case counts in mainland China. MethodsWe built a Weibo user pool of 250 million people, approximately half the entire monthly active Weibo user population. Using a comprehensive list of 167 keywords, we retrieved and analyzed around 15 million COVID-19–related posts from our user pool from November 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020. We developed a machine learning classifier to identify “sick posts,” in which users report their own or other people’s symptoms and diagnoses related to COVID-19. Using officially reported case counts as the outcome, we then estimated the Granger causality of sick posts and other COVID-19 posts on daily case counts. For a subset of geotagged posts (3.10% of all retrieved posts), we also ran separate predictive models for Hubei province, the epicenter of the initial outbreak, and the rest of mainland China. ResultsWe found that reports of symptoms and diagnosis of COVID-19 significantly predicted daily case counts up to 14 days ahead of official statistics, whereas other COVID-19 posts did not have similar predictive power. For the subset of geotagged posts, we found that the predictive pattern held true for both Hubei province and the rest of mainland China regardless of the unequal distribution of health care resources and the outbreak timeline. ConclusionsPublic social media data can be usefully harnessed to predict infection cases and inform timely responses. Researchers and disease control agencies should pay close attention to the social media infosphere regarding COVID-19. In addition to monitoring overall search and posting activities, leveraging machine learning approaches and theoretical understanding of information sharing behaviors is a promising approach to identify true disease signals and improve the effectiveness of infoveillance.

16. Doubly charmed pentaquark states in QCD sum rules

Abstract

We have studied the mass spectra of doubly charmed pentaquark states in the $\Lambda _{c}^{(*)}D^{(*)}$ and $\Sigma _{c}^{(*)}D^{(*)}$ channels with $J^P=1/2^\pm$, $3/2^\pm$ and $5/2^\pm$ within the framework of QCD sum rules. We use the parity projected sum rules to separate the contributions of negative and positive parities from the two-point correlations induced by the pentaquark interpolating currents. Our results show that the bound states of $P_{cc}$ pentaquarks may exist in the $\Lambda _cD\, (\frac{1}{2}^-)$, $\Sigma _cD\, (\frac{1}{2}^-)$, $\Sigma _cD^*\, (\frac{3}{2}^-)$, $\Lambda _c^*D\, (\frac{3}{2}^-)$, $\Lambda _c^*D^*\, (\frac{5}{2}^-)$ channels with negative-parity and $\Sigma _cD\, (\frac{1}{2}^+)$, $\Sigma _cD^\ast\, (\frac{3}{2}^+)$, $\Sigma _c^\ast D\, (\frac{3}{2}^+)$ channels with positive-parity, since their masses are predicted to be lower than the corresponding meson-baryon thresholds. However, they are still allowed to decay into the $\Xi_{cc}^{(\ast)}\pi$ final states via strong interaction. The triply charged $P_{cc}^{+++}(ccuu\bar d)$ and neutral $P_{cc}^{0}(ccdd\bar u)$ in the isospin quartet would definitely be pentaquark states due to their exotic charges. We suggest searching for these characteristic doubly charmed pentaquark signals in the $P_{cc}^{+++}\to\Xi_{cc}^{(\ast) ++}\pi^+/\rho^+$, $\Sigma_c^{(\ast)++}D^{(\ast)+}$ and $P_{cc}^{0}\to\Xi_{cc}^{(\ast) +}\pi^-/\rho^-$, $\Sigma_c^{(\ast)0}D^{(\ast)0}$ decays in the near future., Comment: 25 pages, 5 figures. Abstract

We generalize Integration-By-Parts (IBP) and differential equations methods to de Sitter correlators related to inflation. While massive correlators in de Sitter spacetime are usually regarded as highly intricate, we find they have remarkably hidden concise structures from the perspective of IBP. We find the factorization of the IBP relations of each vertex integral family corresponding to $\mathrm{d} \tau_i$ integration. Furthermore, with a smart construction of master integrals, the universal formulas for iterative reduction and $\mathrm{d} \log$-form differential equations of arbitrary vertex integral family are presented and proved. These formulas dominate all tree-level de Sitter correlators and play a kernel role at the loop-level as well., Comment: 26 pages, 2 figures. The Gemini family consists of Ultra, Pro, and Nano sizes, suitable for applications ranging from complex reasoning tasks to on-device memory-constrained use-cases. Evaluation on a broad range of benchmarks shows that our most-capable Gemini Ultra model advances the state of the art in 30 of 32 of these benchmarks - notably being the first model to achieve human-expert performance on the well-studied exam benchmark MMLU, and improving the state of the art in every one of the 20 multimodal benchmarks we examined. We believe that the new capabilities of the Gemini family in cross-modal reasoning and language understanding will enable a wide variety of use cases. We discuss our approach toward post-training and deploying Gemini models responsibly to users through services including Gemini, Gemini Advanced, Google AI Studio, and Cloud Vertex AI.

19. AIM: Automatic Interrupt Modeling for Dynamic Firmware Analysis

Abstract

The security of microcontrollers, which drive modern IoT and embedded devices, continues to raise major concerns. Within a microcontroller (MCU), the firmware is a monolithic piece of software that contains the whole software stack, whereas a variety of peripherals represent the hardware. As MCU firmware contains vulnerabilities, it is ideal to test firmware with off-the-shelf software testing techniques, such as dynamic symbolic execution and fuzzing. Nevertheless, no emulator can emulate the diverse MCU peripherals or execute/test the firmware. Specifically, the interrupt interface, among all I/O interfaces used by MCU peripherals, is extremely challenging to emulate. In this paper, we present AIM -- a generic, scalable, and hardware-independent dynamic firmware analysis framework that supports unemulated MCU peripherals by a novel interrupt modeling mechanism. AIM effectively and efficiently covers interrupt-dependent code in firmware by a novel, firmware-guided, Just-in-Time Interrupt Firing technique. We implemented our framework in angr and performed dynamic symbolic execution for eight real-world MCU firmware. According to testing results, our framework covered up to 11.2 times more interrupt-dependent code than state-of-the-art approaches while accomplishing several challenging goals not feasible previously. 20. Explaining differences in self-focused and other-involved public health preventive behaviors between the US and China: the role of self- construal and health locus of control.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: This study examined national similarities and differences in peoples engagement in health preventive behaviors during a public health crisis, as well as investigated the underlying individual-level psychological mechanisms. A conceptual distinction was made between self-focused and other-involved preventive behaviors in response to public health crises. METHOD: Two cross-sectional surveys were conducted in the United States (N = 888) and China (N = 844) during the early stage of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hayes PROCESS was utilized to assess national differences in seven preventive behaviors, along with the mediating effects of self-construal and health locus of control. RESULTS: The results showed that American participants reported greater engagement in self-focused preventive behaviors than Chinese, whereas Chinese participants reported greater engagement in other-involved preventive behaviors than Americans. Chinese participants also engaged more in other-involved than self-focused preventive behaviors. Self-construal and health locus of control partially explained the observed differences in engagement in preventive behaviors. DISCUSSION: This study introduces a culture-sensitive approach to provide insights for crafting communication interventions that can enhance the effectiveness of health campaigns in the context of a public health crisis.

Abstract

We propose a novel method to determine the structure of symbols for any family of polylogarithmic Feynman integrals. Using the d log-bases and simple formulas for the leading order and next-to-leading contributions to the intersection numbers, we give a streamlined procedure to compute the entries in the coefficient matrices of canonical differential equations, including the symbol letters and the rational coefficients. We also provide a selection rule to decide whether a given matrix element must be zero. The symbol letters are deeply related to the poles of the integrands and also have interesting connections to the geometry of Newton polytopes. Our method can be applied to many cutting-edge multi-loop calculations. 48. A block Lanczos method for large-scale quadratic minimization problems with orthogonality constraints

Abstract

Quadratic minimization problems with orthogonality constraints (QMPO) play an important role in many applications of science and engineering. However, some existing methods may suffer from low accuracy or heavy workload for large-scale QMPO. Krylov subspace methods are popular for large-scale optimization problems. In this work, we propose a block Lanczos method for solving the large-scale QMPO. In the proposed method, the original problem is projected into a small-sized one, and the Riemannian Trust-Region method is employed to solve the reduced QMPO. Convergence results on the optimal solution, the optimal objective function value, the multiplier and the KKT error are established. Moreover, we give the convergence speed of optimal solution, and show that if the block Lanczos process terminates, then an exact KKT solution is derived. Numerical experiments illustrate the numerical behavior of the proposed algorithm, and demonstrate that it is more powerful than many state-of-the-art algorithms for large-scale quadratic minimization problems with orthogonality constraints.

49. TrojText: Test-time Invisible Textual Trojan Insertion

Abstract

In Natural Language Processing (NLP), intelligent neuron models can be susceptible to textual Trojan attacks. Such attacks occur when Trojan models behave normally for standard inputs but generate malicious output for inputs that contain a specific trigger. Syntactic-structure triggers, which are invisible, are becoming more popular for Trojan attacks because they are difficult to detect and defend against. However, these types of attacks require a large corpus of training data to generate poisoned samples with the necessary syntactic structures for Trojan insertion. Obtaining such data can be difficult for attackers, and the process of generating syntactic poisoned triggers and inserting Trojans can be time-consuming. This paper proposes a solution called TrojText, which aims to determine whether invisible textual Trojan attacks can be performed more efficiently and cost-effectively without training data. The proposed approach, called the Representation-Logit Trojan Insertion (RLI) algorithm, uses smaller sampled test data instead of large training data to achieve the desired attack. The paper also introduces two additional techniques, namely the accumulated gradient ranking (AGR) and Trojan Weights Pruning (TWP), to reduce the number of tuned parameters and the attack overhead. The TrojText approach was evaluated on three datasets (AG's News, SST-2, and OLID) using three NLP models (BERT, XLNet, and DeBERTa). The experiments demonstrated that the TrojText approach achieved a 98.35\% classification accuracy for test sentences in the target class on the BERT model for the AG's News dataset. 50. Potential association of rheumatic diseases with bone mineral density and fractures: a bi-directional mendelian randomization study

Abstract

Abstract Background Previous studies have implicated rheumatoid arthritis as an independent risk factor for bone density loss. However, whether there is a causal relationship between rheumatic diseases and bone mineral density (BMD) and fractures is still controversial. We employed a bidirectional Mendelian analysis to explore the causal relationship between rheumatic diseases and BMD or fractures. Methods The rheumatic diseases instrumental variables (IVs) were obtained from a large Genome-wide association study (GWAS) meta-analysis dataset of European descent. Analyses were performed for the three rheumatic diseases: ankylosing spondylitis (AS) (n = 22,647 cases, 99,962 single nucleotide polymorphisms [SNPs]), rheumatoid arthritis (RA) (n = 58,284 cases, 13,108,512 SNPs), and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) (n = 14,267 cases, 7,071,163 SNPs). Two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were carried out by using R language TwoSampleMR version 0.5.7. The inverse-variance weighted (IVW), MR-Egger, and weighted median methods were used to analyze the causal relationship between rheumatic diseases and BMD or fracture. Results The MR results revealed that there was absence of evidence for causal effect of AS on BMD or fracture. However, there is a positive causal relationship of RA with fracture of femur (95% CI = 1.0001 to 1.077, p = 0.046), and RA and fracture of forearm (95% CI = 1.015 to 1.064, p = 0.001). SLE had positive causal links for fracture of forearm (95% CI = 1.004 to 1.051, p = 0.020). Additionally, increasing in heel bone mineral density (Heel-BMD) and total bone mineral density (Total-BMD) can lead to a reduced risk of AS without heterogeneity or pleiotropic effects. The results were stable and reliable. There was absence of evidence for causal effect of fracture on RA (95% CI = 0.929 to 1.106, p = 0.759), and fracture on SLE (95% CI = 0.793 to 1.589, p = 0.516). Conclusions RA and SLE are risk factors for fractures. On the other hand, BMD increasing can reduce risk of AS. Our results indicate that rheumatic diseases may lead to an increased risk of fractures, while increased BMD may lead to a reduced risk of rheumatic diseases. These findings provide insight into the risk of BMD and AS, identifying a potential predictor of AS risk as a reduction in BMD.
