Feminist principles in research emphasize acknowledging differences to address power imbalances. Taken at face value, discussions on positionality tend to prioritize differences, often turning into mere declarations of the researcher's social privilege. To counterbalance this tendency, I highlight the critical importance of also focusing on shared experiences between the researcher and research participants. Based on my feminist ethnographic fieldwork, this research note reflects on my positionality as an Uzbek musofir (migrant) kelin (daughter-in-law) conducting doctoral research on the lived experiences of women in Tashkent's bazaars. It illustrates how my complex, intertwined identity as a locally raised and foreign-educated musofir kelin initially posed challenges in accessing the field and building trust with participants. Yet, it also highlights how, in addition to the shared experience of musofirchilik, the oppressive experience of kelinhood can be subverted to build solidarity and rapport with the women in the bazaars, transforming an oppressive experience into subversive solidarity. Many women experiencing homelessness and intimate partner violence (IPV) often do not use formal support services due to barriers such as finances, inaccessibility, controlling partners, and stigma. The current literature lacks studies that examine the formal service experiences of women who have undergone both homelessness and IPV. Therefore, the current study used a qualitative-dominant design and explored the formal service needs of these women, barriers and facilitating factors associated with accessing services, and how the women's identities affected their experiences with formal services. Interviews with 10 women were conducted, and a reflexive thematic analysis was conducted using a critical feminist and intersectionality lens. The most common factors that led to homelessness were conflict and precarious circumstances leading to housing instability. Common barriers were systemic, psychological, dismissal, minimization, and financial barriers. The most common needs were health, finances, and basic necessities. The most common facilitating factors were support networks and resilience, growth, and proactivity. The social positionings most commonly affecting their experiences were class and race/ethnicity. These findings highlighted the voices of marginalized women and can be used to implement positive change in formal services that cater to this subgroup of women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract\nPlain language summarySince menstrual health and menstrual inequity are determined by social power structures, this study proposes to analyse, from an intersectional perspective, the experiences of menstrual inequity of women and people who menstruate (PWM) (≥18 years) under circumstances of socioeconomic vulnerability in an urban and rural setting in Catalonia (Spain), focusing on menstrual poverty, menstrual management and access to health care for menstrual health. An exploratory and interpretative qualitative study was conducted. Venue-based convenience sampling was carried out, recruiting women from a non-governmental organisation and a primary health care centre. Eighteen individual semi-structured interviews were conducted between October 2022 and February 2023. Data were analysed through reflexive thematic analysis. Analysis revealed that menstrual care was generally a distant preoccupation that revolved around circumstances of socioeconomic vulnerability, housing, and productive/reproductive work. Menstrual poverty, menstrual management and menstrual self-care challenges, barriers to accessing health care for menstrual health, and menstrual taboo, stigma and discrimination were commonplace and deepened by socioeconomic vulnerability. In this way, women’s menstrual experiences were rooted in intersecting axes of inequity, based on gender, race and class. Intersectional and critical participatory research, policy and practice are imperative to develop counter mechanisms that confront systems of privilege-oppression to modulate menstrual experience, health and equity.This study investigates menstrual inequity among women living in difficult socioeconomic conditions in urban and rural areas of Catalonia, Spain. The study uses an intersectional approach to understand how forms of discrimination—such as sexism, racism, and classism—affect women’s menstrual experiences. Between October 2022 and February 2023, we recruited and interviewed 18 women via an NGO and a primary health care centre. We focused on three areas: (1) What access women had to products like pads or tampons, (2) How women used menstrual products and dealt with symptoms like pain, and (3) How women accessed health care for problems related to menstruation. We found menstrual care is often not a top priority for women who face economic difficulties, are in unstable housing, have demanding work and/or are carers. These women often struggle to access menstrual products, manage their periods effectively, get necessary health care, or overcome menstrual stigma. These challenges are made worse by the combined effects of gender, race, and class, showing how different forms of discrimination can reinforce one another. We conclude that more inclusive research is needed. Changes in policy and practice to address these compounded inequities and improve menstrual health and equity are essential. In this article, we reflect upon our varied relationships—as friends, advocates, mentors, and researchers—with refugee resettlement agencies and volunteers in Columbia, South Carolina. We describe the organizational networks that support refugee resettlement in our city as a "refugee ecosystem"—a term that captures the overlapping relationships of interdependency, symbiosis, and sometimes competition among refugee activists, advocates, and service providers. Drawing upon feminist approaches to research, we challenge the idea of the refugee ecosystem as a bounded field that we can enter or leave at will. We reflect on situations (including our efforts to place student volunteers with agencies, and our current participant-observation project on cosponsorship) that have presented practical and ethical challenges because of our relationships with our interlocutors. These situations require us to think about how to balance the feminist goal of diminishing the hierarchical relationships that underpin academic fieldwork with the need, at times, to bring more clarity to one's role as a researcher. This article explores the author's personal and professional challenges as a feminist and the strategies employed to address them. It focuses on the interplay of knowledge production, positionality, and ethical considerations in contexts of conflict and trauma, and it explores the complexities of intertwining personal experiences with academic inquiry. After highlighting personal struggles of navigating two worlds, the author emphasizes the importance of a reflexive and ethical approach in feminist research that involves navigating power relations and positionality, managing expectations, and responding to the needs on the ground. It ends with addressing both a personal backlash the author experienced and critiques directed toward feminist work in the region. Drawing on her experiences in conducting PhD research with Kurdish women refugees in the UK, postdoctoral research on women survivors of the Anfal genocide in Kurdistan, and a comparative analysis of the experiences of women survivors of the Anfal and Yezidi genocides, the article provides insights into the intricate landscape of feminist research in challenging contexts. Located within feminist scholarship on sport, leisure and physical cultures, this article explores our attempts to understand what conducting 'research with responsibility' means as White, settler-coloniser, immigrant women researching surfing, place and community in Aotearoa New Zealand. Taking inspiration from Hamilton's 'intersectional reflexivity' and Māori feminist scholars' discussion of (de)colonizing methodologies, we discuss the development of our intersectional, collaborative methodology to understand our relationships to place, community and surfing. This co-ethnographic approach helped us navigate the ethics and challenges of knowledge production in Aotearoa New Zealand, and enabled us to be aware of, and open to, different worldviews and ways of knowing. We argue this methodology has value in developing better recognition of our own privileges; understanding of the intersectional politics-of-place we are part of as researchers, and as community members; and of the assumptions, motivations and values that inform our research practices. Abstract The COVID‐19 outbreak triggered a combined health, social and economic crisis, imposing multiple restrictions that altered the use and perception of public green and blue spaces (PGBS). In this article, we explored how the different stages of the COVID‐19 pandemic restrictions affected the use and perceptions of public greenspaces and seafront in gentrifying neighbourhoods, focusing specifically on women and non‐binary residents. We conducted a comparative analysis of two densely populated neighbourhoods in Barcelona, Spain, employing a participatory mixed‐methods approach including surveys, focus groups, participatory walks and semi‐structured interviews. We collected the perceptions from women and non‐binary residents for the pre‐pandemic period, the lockdown period and the period during the post‐lockdown gradual ease of restrictions. Our findings reveal that during the COVID‐19 lockdown, the use of neighbourhood PGBS was maintained or intensified, highlighting the existing deficit in the denser areas of the city. However, post‐lockdown, use patterns changed, with differences based on neighbourhood characteristics and gentrification pressures. This suggests that while COVID‐19 seemed to temporarily impact how people used PGBS, these changes were rapidly reversed once mobility restrictions were lifted. During and after the pandemic, PGBS facilitated informal care networks and community cohesion that helped residents endure the impacts of the pandemic, but the return of gentrification and touristification pressures disrupted these networks, heightening feelings of displacement and exclusion among women and non‐binary residents. The research underscores the dual role of PGBS as both essential community spaces and sites of exclusion, emphasizing the need for inclusive and just green planning strategies. Policy implications. Urban planning must prioritize the quality and accessibility of PGBS with a gender‐sensitive approach and address broader issues of gentrification and touristification to protect vulnerable populations. An environmentally just greening approach should consider proximity, safety, accessibility and design to facilitate the use of PGBS by socially vulnerable groups. Barbara Bray (1924-2010) was an outstanding woman of letters – radio producer and editor in the 1950s, writer and journalist in the 1960s, screenwriter in the 1970s, theatre director in the 1990s, and translator during all that time. Even though Bray played a crucial part in Beckett's creative process across three decades, she was also one of his most obscure collaborators. In this essay, I reflect upon the writing of her biography, focusing on some of the theoretical points that surfaced when trying to make a female creator come out of the shadows. I discuss the methodological and ethical choices made in the composition of the monograph, and higheight the feminist intention presiding over its writing as well as the paradoxes revealed while doing so. Aim: To highlight the value of utilizing the Listening Guide methodology for nursing research and provide an exemplar applying this methodology to explore a novel concept in an underrepresented group—inner strength in persons newly diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment along with their care partners. Design: Methodology discussion paper. Methods: The exemplar study used the Listening Guide methods for data elicitation and analysis. Methods included adaptations for the study population and novice qualitative researchers. Results: The Listening Guide methodology with adaptations enabled the research team to centre the voices of persons living with mild cognitive impairment, highlight an abstract phenomenon and attend to the influences of the sociopolitical context. Further, this methodology helped address common challenges emerging qualitative researchers encounter, including understanding methods of application, engaging reflexively and immersing in the data. Conclusion: The Listening Guide is a voice‐centred qualitative methodology that is well suited to foreground the experiences of groups underrepresented in research and explore emerging phenomena. Implications for Nursing: Nurses are central to striving for health equity. The Listening Guide methodology offers a valuable and accessible research tool to understand the experiences and needs of underrepresented groups and shape healthcare in response. Impact: The Listening Guide methodology can be broadly applied to research with persons with mild cognitive impairment, and other underrepresented groups, to explore other phenomena beyond inner strength and move the science forward in representing the perspectives of groups underrepresented by research. Scientific debates surrounding feminism in the 21st century increasingly call for mainstream feminism to include the voices of non-white women, as well as looking also at the work and expressions of feminism taking place in the Global South. While progress has been made in the United States in acknowledging the work and demands of non-white feminism, Europe lags behind in recognizing and amplifying the feminist contributions and demands of its largest non-migrant ethnic minority, the Roma. This article presents findings from qualitative fieldwork conducted with 23 Romani women and young adults organized in civic organizations across Spain, exploring how they understand and experience feminism. Despite working towards gender equality among Romani men and women, as well as equality between Romani and nonRomani women, many do not identify with dominant representations of feminism. Our results highlight three key elements of what these women would claim as Romani feminism: the role of men as allies, claiming freedom as women as a central aspect of Roma cultural identity, and advocating for a feminism that promotes and safeguards the idea of equality of differences. In October 2017, the #MeToo hashtag went viral on social media, emerging as a global medium for solidarity between women who had experienced sexual violence. However, the contextless nature of a hashtag meant that individual variations of experiences were erased in the positioning of #MeToo as a singular statement. Previous literature exposed a lack of understanding of how geographical factors contributed to the response and uptake of #MeToo. This phenomenological study explored rurality as an intersectional factor that influenced women's engagement with the #MeToo movement. Thirty-one women from rural and remote Australia participated in an anonymous online survey, sharing their experiences and perceptions. The barriers for engagement identified by participants mirror the social and structural factors that inhibit disclosure and help-seeking behaviour in rural and remote areas. Regardless of personal engagement, many of the participants felt a collective sense of strength and empowerment through the virtual solidarity of victims. The author concludes with the suggestion for an anonymous online platform for victims of sexual violence to connect and share their experiences. In recent years, the presence of foreign-born female academics (FBFA) in U.S. higher education has noticeably increased. Despite this progress in inclusion and diversity, they continue to face significant challenges related to race and gender biases in education. These challenges are evident when student evaluations of teaching (SETs) are the mechanism that evaluates the effectiveness of their teaching. Adopting a duo-ethnography methodology, researchers examined the effects of SETs in their professional lives, exploring the intersections of their experiences in their academic roles. In recent years, numerous scholars have advocated for the concept of embodiment—defined as the experience of engaging one's body with the world (Allan, 2005; Piran & Teall, 2012)—as a valuable framework for understanding women's experiences of their bodies. However, there is a paucity of research on embodiment specifically among newcomer women (including immigrants, refugees, and non-permanent residents) who belong to racialized groups in Canada. This article presents findings from a feminist research study employing an Arts-Based Engagement Ethnography (ABEE) methodology to investigate the embodiment experiences of six racialized newcomer women in Canada. The study reveals several unique factors influencing embodiment in this demographic, suggesting that future research, clinical practice, and social justice efforts should consider these factors both conceptually and methodologically.

The examination of gender in fieldwork highlights a need to provide attention to possible problematic instances that may arise between women interviewers and men participants. Qualitative research identifies that women interviewing men find themselves continually navigating power imbalances while attempting to negotiate safe environments for themselves. I argue that gendered behaviours are not always obvious and problematic, but rather can be subtle, fluid and work to support shared understandings of the research topic. Taking exception to the persistent and recurrent exceptionalism of sex work within discourses on anti-trafficking, global health, brahmanical patriarchy and Indian nationalism, this special section comprises four articles. Originally conceived as part of a panel for a spring conference scheduled for summer 2020, the articles emerged in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and include research by Dr Gowri Vijayakumar, Dr Vibhuti Ramachandran, Dr Mirna Guha, and Dr Kimberly Walters. Through an analysis of the historical and contemporaneous experiences of marginalised cis women (dis)engaged in selling sex across diverse contexts, these articles deploy a range of conceptual and methodological approaches to interrogate longstanding institutional efforts to surveil, target and govern their bodies. In doing so, together, they delineate and challenge the enduring legacy of a long history of moral and public health panics that have framed the lives of people who sell sex in India since colonial times. This addresses structural and epistemic violence visited upon sex workers and strengthens ongoing efforts to forward an alternative, intersectional feminist reading of sex work in India. The writers of this article were brought together by questions of pain. Informed by our own experience with research on difficult and personally meaningful topics, this article explores the value and risks of emotional commitment in qualitative research methods and the corporeal consequences that can result from this commitment. We consider how stress informs an embodied practice of qualitative research, taking into account the thresholds and limits of the body and how these limits shape and transform data collection and analysis. While we endorse the importance of subjectivity in research, we investigate the tension between when physical effects of stress are necessary and needed and when they are harmful to the researcher. This exploration of embodiment has made us question practices of accessibility in the training and process of conducting difficult, personally demanding work. We turn to critical disability methodology to better understand the embodied consequences of research, arguing that researchers often experience continuous negotiation between their own physical well-being and their emotional and identity-based commitments. Tenets from critical disability methodology help resist the dehumanization and mechanization of qualitative researchers by focusing on, rather than ignoring, the body. We emphasize a need for more instructional practices that directly and routinely acknowledge the tension between embodiment and subjectivity in research and that embolden researchers to speak of them, to consider them in their research protocols, and ultimately to determine their own acceptable thresholds. Despite growing engagement with researchers' positionalities and applications of reflexivity, considerations for researchers' identities and experiences as parents remain under-developed. In particular, reflections about conducting research in the presence of one's family continue to be a marginal topic in discussions about research methods, ethics and fieldwork. More recently, a small body of literature on the family dimensions of conducting fieldwork has begun to emerge. Most of this existing work relates specifically to the discipline of anthropology, and is often focused specifically on the experiences of mothers and motherhood. Significantly less has been written, however, about the experiences of fathers conducting fieldwork, and related questions about parenting, masculinity and field research. This article intends to counter these tendencies, by reflecting on my experiences of conducting field research in northern Uganda in the company of my wife and my two young children. I reflect on the practical and logistics aspects of this, and specifically on the methodological and ethical components of accompanied fieldwork, and the ways in which my family's presence in the field impacted upon the knowledge production and research process. I specifically argue that conducting accompanied fieldwork carries immediate implications for researcher positionalities and relationalities with interlocutors. I specifically reflect on how my identity as a father shaped how I was perceived by my research participants, and how it enabled me to build new and different relationships with my interlocutors – thereby contributing to debates about positionality and reflexivity. Such transparent reflections, I hope, will be of interest for others embarking on field research within the presence of their families in the future, and seek to contribute towards a process of raising awareness, facilitating exchanges within the academy and increasing institutional support for accompanied fieldwork. From a feminist perspective, we present the possibilities and limits of a qualitative research technique that considers the active participation of people who articulate with the researcher under a critical perspective and with a rescue of their embodied emotional experience, such as the construction of Life Narratives. This feminist method challenges the traditional ways of generating qualitative knowledge by promoting a horizontal relationship between the researcher and the participant and aims to confront the questioned academic extractivism present in contemporary universities. In this case, four Life Narratives were generated with female academics who are or were directors of PhDs in Chilean universities and who led the quality assurance process of their programmes. The limits are presented both technically and also with regard to the effective possibilities of moving traditional structures in the form of knowledge production. Furthermore, although this technique seeks to address feminist criticisms related to leaving corporeality and emotionality out of the research, this incorporation is not always achieved with participants in positions of power. It is concluded that this method allows a critical reflexivity typical of feminist work, unravels the power dynamics present in the processes of knowledge construction and also allows us to see the consequences that research practices have both on the subjects involved and on their contexts. Management and organization researchers are being called to conduct research that is more caring, yet the concept of care and how to practice it within the profession is undertheorized. Adopting a feminist epistemology and methodology, we develop the concept of care by weaving the personal, ethical, and political into the research process. First, we reflect critically on how aspects of care—attentiveness, responsibility, competence, and responsiveness (Tronto, Moral boundaries: a political argument for an ethic of care, Routledge, 1993; Tronto, Caring democracy: markets, equality, and justice, New York University Press, 2013)—unfolded in our personal research experiences, and secondly, we conduct a review of articles published in management and organization studies and analyse expressed or concealed conceptions of care in scholars' accounts of research purpose and ethics. We find three ethical sensibilities at the heart of enacting care: encountering the 'other', interpreting roles and responsibilities, and deliberating needs and resources. We contribute to a feminist research ethics by highlighting issues related to care that are concealed in dominant ethos guiding management and organization research. Further, we develop methodological insights for implementing an ethic of care as an alternative ethical standpoint in business research ethics. The COVID pandemic exacerbated existing inequalities as well as those between researchers and the researched. This experiential note discusses the ethical dilemmas and practical difficulties that I as a feminist researcher and activist have encountered between 2020 and 2022. This was while in the process of my research as well as engagement with COVID-19-related advocacy work. I argue that, even as one was displaced from one's status as a researcher, these skills were required in advocacy with various branches of the government. Formal research investigations involving fieldwork required that I attend to the needs of the 'researched' through humanitarian outreach and advocacy. Such a displacement of the identity of the researcher, I argue, points to the issues at stake in doing feminist research, even during ordinary times. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We draw upon transnational feminism as a theoretical resource to outline decolonial thinking for feminist organizational communication in this essay. Decolonial perspectives in transnational feminism reinforce antiracist, anticapitalist, and anti-imperial interventions in theory, practice and activism. We argue that the assumptions of neoliberal hegemony and imperial legacy remain largely unchallenged in feminist organizational communication research and call for rigorous examination of global capitalism and its close links with colonization of knowledge to make the project of the empire visible. Our recommendations urge shifting dominant sites of knowledge-making to epistemologies of disenfranchised women and generating insurgent knowledges by carefully forging non-exploitative collaborative relationships with activists and communities of struggle. We hope these agendas offer new imaginings to decolonize imperial legacies, address historical absences and silences, and invigorate social justice orientation in the field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Trauma- and violence-informed physical activity (TVIPA) is a feasible approach to improve access/engagement in physical activity for pregnant/parenting women with experiences of trauma. Through feminist participatory action research, 56 semistructured interviews were completed to understand TVIPA. Four themes were identified: (1) "I have to be on edge": Trauma and violence pervade women's lives, (2) "It should be mandatory that you feel safe": Emotional safety is essential, (3) "The opportunity to step up and be decision-makers and leaders": Choice, collaboration, and connection create safety, and (4) "It's a good start for healing," strengths-based and capacity building foster individual and community growth. Conducting feminist research during the global COVID-19 pandemic has evoked a renewed interest in the concept of care within our research team. The purpose of this paper is to provide concrete examples of how feminist ethics of care changed the initial and ongoing design of a community-engaged research project in Ontario, Canada. Drawing from examples and lessons learned, we focus on various adjustments to our methodological decision-making that intentionally honoured and prioritized our responsibilities to community partners, research participants, broader communities impacted by research, and the research team. By illustrating the methodological and ethical implications of these decisions, we argue that attending to these responsibilities prioritized both feminist research ethics and feminist ethics of care. As a result, we propose moving towards a conceptualization of a feminist research ethics of care, and discuss the value of this concept for researchers studying social justice. Conducting feminist research during the global COVID-19 pandemic has evoked a renewed interest in the concept of care within our research team. The purpose of this paper is to provide concrete examples of how feminist ethics of care changed the initial and ongoing design of a community-engaged research project in Ontario, Canada. Drawing from examples and lessons learned, we focus on various adjustments to our methodological decision-making that intentionally honoured and prioritized our responsibilities to community partners, research participants, broader communities impacted by research, and the research team. By illustrating the methodological and ethical implications of these decisions, we argue that attending to these responsibilities prioritized both feminist research ethics and feminist ethics of care. As a result, we propose moving towards a conceptualization of a feminist research ethics of care, and discuss the value of this concept for researchers studying social justice.

This article addresses the complex ways in which poor urban women's educational and training needs are embedded in official discourses of capacity creation and are constructed in opposition to their community and kinship networks, an aspect that is very often overlooked when such programmes are designed. It argues that this oversight is not a coincidence, as neoliberal policies and discourses of empowerment construct young women as 'subjects of capacity'. Where they are addressed directly, young women are framed as the single, autonomous subjects of liberalism who, once enabled, overcome 'traditional' kin and community attachments. Based on the ethnographic study of vocational training for beauticians provided by an Indian NGO, the article argues that such interventions are geared towards 'community development' and therefore reference broader social landscapes, but that the participants in training see themselves and the process as part of, rather than as opposed to, kin and community obligations. While education and training are more often than not conceived as stand-alone projects offering young women a way into employment and the labour market, the article foregrounds the class-based limits of such workist approaches and the entanglements between body work, caste/class, and histories of feminized poverty. It demonstrates how young women from lower-caste and lower-class backgrounds see opportunities in the beauty industry mainly as supporting their roles as responsible daughters, future wives and daughters-in-law realized within the complex economies of marginal urban communities. They are also acutely aware that while the actual work of the beautician allows some access to the world of 'professional' modern and classed notions of femininity and, arguably, a more dignified workplace than in domestic service, the pitfalls of an industry built on gendered, racialized and classist inclusions and hierarchies are noted too. Critiquing the mainstream feminist focus on access to the labour market, the article argues that young women are fully aware of their own precarious relationship with ideals of neoliberal constructs of autonomous subjectivities promoted by the state and its agents. The article gives an overview of Crip Theory, a diverse assembly of critical perspectives on dis/ability, and outlines how it can be used to analyse social relations and intersectionality in contemporary societies. Arguing that Crip Theory is indebted not only to cultural studies but also to materialist models of disability and feminist theory, the authors conclude that it can contribute significantly to gender studies in the Nordic region. Presenting central elements of Crip Theory--such as language, ableism, compulsory able-bodiedness, cripping and normativity--they argue that adapting Anglo-Saxon concepts to Nordic realities potentially adds new dimensions to intersectional and feminist analysis. The article concludes that Crip Theory can be useful in rejecting hierarchical language's binarisms and claiming the right to name oneself, destabilizing ableist categories, cripping normativity, exposing ableism, and strengthening the political significance of social science research and activism. Finally, the authors indicate how Crip Theory can extend the scope of gender studies and feminist research to deepen the understanding of discursive climates of tolerance, to develop cripistemologies that may bring new perspectives to feminist standpoint theory, and to confront the ideological regressiveness and human costs of contemporary austerity politics and extremeright movements. Background: Lesbian, bisexual, and queer (LBQ) women exhibit high rates of alcohol and tobacco use, yet there is limited qualitative research examining why. Previous research has focused on minority stress explanations, linking alcohol and tobacco use to experiences of discrimination. However, other work considers the social contexts and cultural practices associated with alcohol and tobacco consumption. This confirms the need for more in-depth understandings of LBQ women's lived experiences in a contemporary Australian context. Aims: To address gaps in existing research, this project aims to develop a more nuanced contemporaneous theorising of what alcohol and tobacco mean to LBQ women in Australia. Drawing on feminist and critical drugs studies, this research will examine the complexities of alcohol and tobacco in LBQ women's lives, including how patterns of use change over time. We will also critically consider how LBQ women understand risk in relation to these substances, including factors leading to harm reduction and help-seeking. Method: We will employ a longitudinal qualitative approach to explore LBQ women's experiences over time, including three waves of semi-structured interviews and participant photography. We aim to recruit approximately 60 women in Victoria and New South Wales. Interview and visual data will be analysed using a range of narrative and thematic techniques. Conclusion: This study seeks to explore the complexities of individual experiences with alcohol and tobacco use, including pleasure and support-seeking, and to provide a nuanced understanding of the cultural dimensions of use that may change over time. In doing so, we propose a shift from deficit approaches to LBQ women's substance use towards more meaningful strengths-based engagement with the function of substances for LBQ women. Findings will be significant in their contribution to the current understandings of substance use patterns among LBQ women and the implications for harm reduction and health interventions. Taking a feminist and intersectional approach, this article conducts a socio-political analysis of the traditional paradigms of disability through an ethnographic study of the life histories of women with functional diversity (FD). In Spain, the term "people with functional diversity" has emerged as a preferred denomination for many, if not all, people and entities working in this field because it emphasizes the contribution of people with FD to society. Based on interviews with six study participants, the analysis examines these women's discourses and the different ways that they deconstruct traditional models of disability and ableism and the patriarchal and capitalist social categories that constrain them in positions of inequality and oppression. In particular, the analysis centers on the different ways of "being" a woman with FD and the transformative capacity of agency in overturning traditional representations in favor of plurality and inclusiveness. By challenging marginalized social categories, the women claim ownership of their bodies and sexuality and also open routes to social resources. Nevertheless, the research also shows that these resistances often took place at an individual rather than a collective level. Hence, while emphasizing the agentive capacity of the participants, the study shows how each of their biographies is framed within a socio-political context. This research makes an important contribution to the theory and practice of social work as it questions the traditional categories of FD and brings us closer to the lived experiences and practices of the study participants. In its classical form, ballroom dancing constitutes heterosexual dance couples enacting conservative forms of masculinity and femininity. A normative focus, both in scholarship and in practice, on the classical form in competitive ballroom dancing (also known as Dancesport) excludes the lived narratives of LGBT + dancers practicing the sport outside of the mainstream. Equality Dancesport is one such example, with dancers performing in diverse partnership typologies and adopting less gender-segregated dance roles and movements. Drawing on the photo-elicitation exercise, embedded within in-depth interviews, conducted as part of a broader ethnographic study on the equality Dancesport scene in the United Kingdom, I demonstrate how the strategy informed a ground-up emergence of a queer theoretical framework for understanding masculinities and femininities across the sex, gender and sexuality categorical divides. Four key opportunities afforded by photo elicitation are identified, namely (1) invoking new queer knowledge which blurs the binary divide in how concepts of masculinities and femininities are investigated in existing dance scholarship, (2) facilitating the development of more egalitarian researcher/participant relationships, (3) enabling affective, detailed and fluid narrations of lived experiences of dancing, and (4) positioning interviewees as dance spectators and inspiring reflections on the community. The paper concludes with three recommendations for negotiating the pitfalls of using a photo elicitation technique in dance studies. First, researchers need to recognise the limits of inclusivity offered by photo elicitation and practice sensitivity towards participants. Second, integrating photographs with other visual methods such as videos can enable researchers to leverage the strengths of different visual tools to inspire talk about broader topics. Third, before using the method, researchers need to develop mental strength for coping with negative talk, to achieve more holistic understanding of participants' sentiments and motivations and as a duty of accountability towards them. This article examines the overlooked history of Sue Lyon and her experiences as a child film star. Lyon was fourteen years old when she was cast in the role of Dolores Haze in Lolita (1962) by James B. Harris and Stanley Kubrick. The article considers how critical feminist archival methods can be used to analyse documents in the Stanley Kubrick Archive (SKA) to uncover the conditions of production in which Lyon found herself. In the few instances that Lyon spoke out in the later stages of her life, she cited her involvement in Lolita as having had a detrimental impact on her mental health. More recently, there have been allegations of a sexual relationship between the film's producer—Harris—and Lyon during the production. The article considers the ways in which a critical feminist approach to the use of the SKA can be used to uncover the experiences of Lyon during the film's production and can reframe understanding of the conditions of production in Hollywood that led to the sexualisation and exploitation of a child star. The literature is rife with problematizations of researcher positionality (Lin, 2015 ; Milner IV, 2007 ; Sheldon, 2017). The discussion of positionality ranges from researchers not acknowledging their own and others' positionality (Lin, 2015 ; Milner IV, 2007), being aware of the position of research studies one reads (Lin, 2015), or not continually deconstructing one's own identity throughout the course of the research they conduct (Sheldon, 2017). We confront the issue through the lens of a collaborative critical autoethnography between burgeoning researchers. As racialized cis-women in the academy, we examine our experiences through the interstices of belonging – nominally excluded from belonging in both the academy and the community. Through this work, we confront the question of how we, as racialized cis-women in the academy, confront and navigate the complex dynamics of race, class, and gender when approaching research in our own communities. Our experiences are framed within critical race theory, which assists in demonstrating the ways in which the racialized and gendered dynamics of marginalization in an seemingly inclusive academy are contrasted with the racialized and gendered dynamics of inclusion in ostensibly exclusionary communities. This work extends our knowledge of how individual researchers begin to make sense of it all. Moreover, through this work, our hope for this paper is for those in academia to see themselves, or their colleagues, but also to serve as validation for those yet to come who share these tensions. Digital maps have been taken up as a productive tool in both activism and academic research. However, there has been less consideration of their use as a research method in qualitative social sciences research. This paper aims to contribute towards scholarship on qualitative research by providing a critical reflection on the use of digital mapping as a research method in a feminist research project on street-based harassment in Australia. Drawing on practices of reflexivity, as well as comments made by participants across 46 qualitative interviews, I consider how digital mapping can be used to facilitate feminist research, arguing that it represents a generative instrument which lends itself to the development of in-depth insights from participants. Yet, mapping also delimits the epistemological possibilities of qualitative research, and I consider how this method simultaneously constrains what can be known about street harassment.
