In this study, a new experimental set-up has been developed to investigate by flow visualizations the frost formation and growth on a cold plate. Seven environmental conditions, varying the air temperature, relative humidity, and velocity and the plate temperature, are considered. For the uncoated plate, the experimental data on the temporal evolution of the frost layer thickness enable to validate a pseudo 1D model formerly developed. Three bioinspired icephobic surfaces including superhydrophobic, SLIPS and self-lubricant coatings are then compared to the base case without coating for five environmental conditions. Superhydrophobic coating provides the highest retardation time for the formation and growth of frost compared to the SLIPS and self-lubricant coatings whatever the environmental conditions. This paper proposes a dynamic thermal model for a commercial greenhouse in Quebec, Canada, used for tomato cultivation. The study aims to improve the accuracy and efficiency of greenhouse simulations by considering the impact of plants' complex internal gains on the sensible and latent loads of the greenhouse. A new TRNSYS type is developed to account for latent and sensible gains/losses from evapotranspiration and evapotranspiration rates. A co-simulation approach is employed between TRNSYS for transient energy simulations and CONTAM for airflow rate calculations. One span out of eight is modeled. The span is 121.9 × 7.6 m² and 6.7 meters high. The model is able to estimate indoor temperature and relative humidity and the evapotranspiration rate. Dans un contexte qui prône l’efficacité énergétique, les entreprises s’efforcent de réduire les coûts liés aux pertes thermiques des bâtiments. Ces pertes thermiques sont principalement l’infiltration d’air froid à travers les ouvertures. C’est pourquoi, il est nécessaire de contrôler les transferts thermiques et massiques entre deux milieux comme par exemple, intérieur/extérieur, chaud/froid. La solution commune afin de réduire les pertes thermiques d’un bâtiment consiste à l’utilisation de rideaux d’air et en particulier d’un rideau d’air multibuses nommé MNAC (Multi-Nozzle Air Curtain). Cependant, le manque de connaissances sur les rideaux d’air multibuses a conduit à cette thèse. Cette dernière se focalise dans l’étude des performances du rideau d’air dans une optique d’amélioration des performances. Dans un premier temps, cette thèse vise à reproduire numériquement, par l’utilisation de simulations RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes), l’écoulement du rideau d’air multibuses installé sur porte de chargement. Les simulations, validées expérimentalement par des mesures de températures, permettront d’accéder aux performances thermiques pour différentes contraintes extérieures de température et de vent. La compilation des résultats permet de calculer l’efficacité du rideau d’air en fonction des conditions extérieures. Dans un second temps, Un modèle réduit à l’échelle 1/2 a été créé dans le but de comparer l’écoulement généré par deux profils de buses. Ce modèle réduit a été installé sur une porte dans la soufflerie de l’Université de Sherbrooke afin de réaliser des mesures de vitesses au fil chaud pour des cas isothermes en présence de différents vents frontaux (0 m/s, 4 m/s et 9 m/s). Les résultats expérimentaux ainsi obtenus permettent de définir les condition limites des simulations numériques RANS et par la suite de valider le choix de modèle de turbulence à la fois pour le rideau d’air et son interaction avec un vent. L’analyse numérique des données aérodyn, Numerical and experimental characterization of performances of a multi-nozzle air curtain In a context that advocates energy efficiency, companies are striving to reduce the costs associated with thermal losses in buildings. These thermal losses are mainly the infiltra-tion of cold air through openings. Therefore, it is necessary to control the thermal and mass transfers between two environments such as indoor/outdoor, hot/cold. The common solution to reduce heat loss in a building is the use of air curtains and in particular a Multi-Nozzle Air Curtain (MNAC). However, the lack of knowledge on multi-nozzle air curtains led to this thesis. This thesis focuses on the study of the performance of the air curtain in order to improve the performance. First, this thesis aims to numerically reproduce, by using RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes) simulations, the flow of the multi-nozzle air curtain installed on a loading door. The simulations, validated exper-imentally by temperature measurements, will allow to access the thermal performances for different external temperature and wind constraints. The compilation of the results allows to calculate the efficiency of the air curtain according to the external conditions. In a second step, a 1/2 scale model was created in order to compare the flow generated by two nozzle profiles. This model was installed on a door in the wind tunnel of the University of Sherbrooke in order to carry out measurements of velocities at the hot wire for isothermal cases in the presence of various frontal winds (0 m/s, 4 m/s and 9 m/s). The experimental results thus obtained make it possible to define the boundary conditions of the RANS numerical simulations and subsequently to validate the choice of turbulence model for both the air curtain and its interaction with a wind. The range hood is crucial in kitchens during cooking activities. Inside the residential houses, cooking activities are one of the main sources of particle emission, which decreases the air quality level. Furthermore, multiple studies found a strong correlation between the particles emitted from cooking activity and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer and diabetes. The use of an efficient range hood is essential to maintain a healthy air quality level inside the house. The fan is the main component inside a range hood. Most of the range hoods are equipped with an axial fan or a one rotor squirrel cage fan. In the present study, a powerful double-intake and rotor squirrel cage fan is designed and optimized by using a developed optimization process loop based only on open source libraries. Dakota is used to achieve the sampling and build the surrogate surfaces, Salome to generate the geometry and the mesh grid and OpenFoam for the calculations. More than eleven design parameters are selected in the impellers, blades and volute regions. The two objective functions: total efficiency and the generated noise are improved by maximizing and minimizing their values, respectively. The Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) method is selected to achieve sampling over more than 363 design parameters set. In order to model the turbulent flow, a 3D incompressible simpleFoam solver is used and coupled to the Multiple Reference Frame (MRF) approach. The Kriging and the quadratic polynomial response surface are used to expand the design space and improve the objective functions. The total efficiency is improved by 12 % and the noise is reduced by 2 sones compared to the initial design. The Kriging Metamodel predicts with less than 2 % the total efficiency and 1% the generated noise compared to the OpenFoam calculation. Dans le domaine du transport routier, l’utilisation de systèmes basés sur des plaques eutectiques constitue une alternative écologique pour maintenir les camions réfrigérés à une température négative (allant jusqu’à -29⁰C) dans la remorque sans avoir recours à un système conventionnel relié au moteur et donc consommant des carburants fossiles. Cependant, pour des climats relativement chauds et humides (comme l’été au Québec), le principal inconvénient réside dans la formation de givre sur les plaques. Ce givre est causé par des ouvertures multiples des portes de la remorque lors de livraisons fréquentes. Cela permet l’entrée de l’air chaud et humide en été, induit de la condensation puis la formation de givre sur les plaques. Ce givre bloque ensuite les transferts de chaleur entre les plaques et l’air intérieur et sans l’intervention du chauffeur, il est difficile à enlever. Dans un premier temps, des mesures sur la formation du givre ont été effectuées au-dessus d’une plaque plane refroidie, et ce pour différentes conditions environnementales. Elles ont permis la validation d’un modèle numérique 1D. Dans un second temps et en collaboration avec l’UQAC, différents revêtements glaciophobes bio-inspirés (superhydrophobe, lubrifiant organique et auto-lubrifiant aqueux) ont été ajoutés à la plaque et leur influence sur le développement de la couche de givre a été quantifiée par des visualisations.
