CRISP-DM is the de-facto standard and an industry-independent process model for applying data mining projects. Twenty years after its release in 2000, we would like to provide a systematic literature review of recent studies published in IEEE, ScienceDirect and ACM about data mining use cases applying CRISP-DM. We give an overview of the research focus, current methodologies, best practices and possible gaps in conducting the six phases of CRISP-DM. The main findings are that CRISP-DM is still a de-factor standard in data mining, but there are challenges since the most studies do not foresee a deployment phase. The contribution of our paper is to identify best practices and process phases in which data mining analysts can be better supported. Further contribution is a template for structuring and releasing CRISP-DM studies.

Perceivers routinely draw inferences about others from their behavior in an attempt to make sense of the world. Previous research has established that spontaneous inferences include stable characteristics such as traits and a number of variable person-related concepts such as goals, intentions, and motivations. The current research investigated the occurrence of more general spontaneous state inferences. In a series of four preregistered studies (N = 883), we adapted two established experimental paradigms frequently used in spontaneous social inference research to the investigation of spontaneous trait and state inferences. In Studies 1 and 2, we observed evidence for the occurrence of spontaneous state inferences from state-implying statements. In Studies 3 and 4, we observed the simultaneous occurrence of spontaneous trait and state inferences from statements that allowed for both inferences. In a fifth study (N = 97), we provide evidence that people represent states and traits as functionally different: Participants judged the likelihood of behavioral repetition higher when the same behavior was related to a trait-inference than a state-inference. The observation of multiple simultaneous spontaneous inferences in the current research suggests that further theory building regarding the underlying mechanisms and processes of spontaneous impression formation in person perception from behavior is warranted. Research suggests that people spontaneously infer traits from behavioral information, thus forming impressions of actors’ personalities. Such spontaneous trait inferences (STI) have been examined in a wide range of studies in the last four decades. Here, we provide the first systematic meta-analysis of this vast literature. We included data from k = 86 publications, with overall N = 13,630 participants. The average STI effect was moderate to large ( dz = 0.59) and showed substantial heterogeneity. The type of experimental paradigm significantly moderated the STI effect size, with larger effects in long-term memory–based paradigms compared with working memory–based paradigms. Generally, STI effects were robust to various methodological variations and also to potential concerns of publication bias. Contrary to expectations, cultural background (independent vs. interdependent) did not emerge as a significant moderator of STI effects. We discuss these findings with respect to their theoretical relevance and derive implications for future research and theorizing.

Search analytics and trends data is widely used by media, politicians, economists, and scientists in various decision-making processes. The data providers often use sampling when calculating the request results, due to the huge data volume that would need to be processed otherwise. The representativity of such samples is typically assured by the providers. Often, limited or no information about the reliability and validity of the service or the sampling confidence are provided by the services and, as a consequence, the data quality has to be assured by the users themselves, before using it for further analysis.

Internal auditing tries to identify anomalies, weaknesses and manipulations in business processes in order to protect the company from risks. Due to the digitalization of processes, auditors also have to check the associated data volumes. Already existing IT-systems focus on process-related data where the control flow, i.e. the actual sequence of process events, is not considered. This paper examines how the control flow and the process-related data can be analyzed in combination to support auditors in process auditing. To realize this, audit requirements were collected in the literature and evaluated by auditors from industry. On this basis, a concept with five indicators was developed, then transferred into a prototype and evaluated using real-life data as well as two auditors. The results show that the requirements can be technically realized and the developed indicators enable auditors to identify and interpret abnormal process executions.

Microservices has become a widely used and discussed architectural style for designing modern applications due to advantages like granular scalability and maintainability. However, it is still a complex task decomposing an application into microservices. Software architects often design architectures manually. In this paper we give a state-of-the-art overview of current approaches to identifying microservices. Therefore we use a literature review and classify the content based on the software development process.

Der Erfolg einer Automatisierungslosung fur die Faserablage wird vor allem daran gemessen, ob es gelingt, die Fertigungskosten des Rotorblatts sowie dessen Fertigungszeit zu senken. Die Hurden hierfur sind hoch. Bei den aktuellen Blattarchitekturen und Bauweisen mussen nicht nur Fasern abgelegt, sondern auch Stutzstoffe in den Bereichen des Blatts mit Sandwichhauten platziert werden. Dieser Beitrag des DLR beschreibt, dass eine erfolgreiche Automatisierung fur die Faserablage nicht nur die Fertigungskosten reduzieren muss, sondern auch die Materialeinzelkosten.

Dieser Beitrag befasst sich mit dem Thema Digitalisierung von nicht-digitalen Geschaftsprozessen. Der Digitalisierungsgrad eines Unternehmens stellt mittlerweile einen erfolgsentscheidenden Wettbewerbsfaktor dar, um in modernen Markten nachhaltig existieren und sich weiterentwickeln zu konnen. Die digitale Transformation von Geschaftsprozessen eines Unternehmens ist nicht trivial und stellt Unternehmen und deren Mitarbeiter vor grose Herausforderungen. Es wurden verschiedene Geschaftsprozesscharakteristika identifiziert, die masgeblichen Einfluss auf die Digitalisierung eines Geschaftsprozesses nehmen. Diese Charakteristika wurden unter Nutzung von Methoden aus dem Bereich der multikriteriellen Entscheidungsunterstutzung in ein Konzept uberfuhrt, um die Digitalisierungspotenziale eines Geschaftsprozesses ermitteln zu konnen. Die Anwendung dieses Konzeptes erfolgt in drei separaten Schritten: Gewichtung der Kriterien, Bewertung der Kriterien und Ergebnisauswertung. Die Ergebnisse der Erprobung liesen sich durch eine prototypische Digitalisierung eines zuvor nicht-digitalen Geschaftsprozesses erfolgreich validieren. Es hat sich dabei gezeigt, dass Entscheidungen innerhalb von Geschaftsprozessen eine wichtige Rolle im Hinblick auf deren Digitalisierung inne haben. Diese Rolle muss weiterhin hinsichtlich der Digitalisierungspotenziale, aber auch Hemmnisse verstarkt untersucht werden muss. Das erstellte Bewertungskonzept erweitert die bisherige Literatur und bietet eine breite Grundlage fur weiterfuhrende Forschungs- und Entwicklungsarbeiten.

GroFi is a large research facility operated by the German Aerospace Center’s Center for Lightweight-Production-Technology in Stade. A combination of dierent layup technologies namely (dry) ber placement and tape laying, allows the development and validation of new production technologiesand processes for large-scale composite components. Due to the use of coordinated and simultaneously working layup units a high exibility of the research platform is achieved. This allows the investigation of new materials, technologies and processes on both, small coupons, but also large components such as wing covers or fuselage skins.

EVo research platform is operated by the Center for Lightweight-Production-Technology of the German Aerospace Center in Stade. Its objective is technology demonstration of a fully automated RTM (Resin Transfer Molding) production line for composite parts in large quantities. Process steps include cutting and ply handling, draping, stacking, hot-forming, preform-trimming to net shape, resin injection, curing and demolding.

Among the large-scale facilities operated at the Center for Lightweight-Production-Technology of the German Aerospace Center in Stade BALU is the world's largest research autoclave. With a loading length of 20m and a loading diameter of 5.8 m the main objective of the facility is the optimization of the curing process operated by components made of carbon fiber on an industrial scale. For this reason, a novel dynamic autoclaving control has been developed that is characterized by peripheral devices to expend the performance of the facility for differential applications, by sensing systems to detect the component state throughout the curing process and by a feedback system, which is capable to intervene into the running autoclave process.

Innerhalb der DFG-Forschungsgruppe „FOR 860“ an der RWTH Aachen University werden am Institut fur Textiltechnik der RWTH Aachen (ITA) zwei Verfahren fur das textile Preforming entwickelt. Diese Verfahren, das einstufige und das mehrstufige Preforming, haben die schnelle, effiziente und hochautomatisierte Fertigung komplexer Preforms zum Ziel. Im folgenden Beitrag werden die beiden Verfahren beschrieben und erste Ergebnisse dargestellt.

Smart fiber placement is an ambitious topic in current research for automated manufacturing of large-scale composite structures, e.g. wing covers. Adaptive systems get in focus to obtain a high degree of observability and controllability of the manufacturing process. In particular, vibrational issues and material failure have to be studied to significantly increase the production rate with no loss in accuracy of the fiber layup. As one contribution, an adaptive system has been developed to be integrated into the fiber placement head. It decouples the compaction roller from disturbances caused by misalignments, varying components’ behavior over a large work area and acceleration changes during operation. Therefore, the smart system axially adapts the position of the compaction roller in case of disturbances. This paper investigates the behavior of the system to compensate quasi-static deviations from the desired path. In particular, the compensation efficiency of a constant offset, a linear drift with constant gradient and a single-curved drift is studied. Thus, the test bed with measurement devices and scenarios is explained. Based on the knowledge obtained by the experimental data, the paper concludes with a discussion of the proposed approach for its use under operating conditions and further implementation.
