El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar si la utilización de juegos mejora la gestión del aprendizaje de estudiantes universitarios. La muestra se conformó por 156 estudiantes chilenos, quienes participaron en tres modalidades de juego (Kahoot!, Pasa palabras y Juego de cartas); se evaluó la percepción de los estudiantes sobre la modalidad utilizada, así como el pretest, postest y pruebas para medir el impacto de cada juego en las calificaciones obtenidas. Los resultados revelaron una valoración positiva del juego como estrategia didáctica de aprendizaje; las pruebas pretest y postest mostraron un incremento de las calificaciones tras la aplicación de la actividad. En conclusión, la utilización de juegos es una herramienta de aprendizaje que permite integrar habilidades y motivar al estudiante de forma dinámica y creativa.

Resumen: Introducción: Una de las labores del profesional de enfermería es ofrecer consejo de experto a las personas que deben cuidar. Estas habilidades no se desarrollan solo desde el conocimiento teórico. En este sentido el juego de roles es una técnica de aprendizaje cooperativo que permite simular situaciones reales y puede ser efectiva para desarrollar habilidades de trabajo relacional. Objetivo: Comparar el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes expuestos y no expuestos a juego de roles y caracterizar la percepción de satisfacción de los estudiantes que utilizaron esta técnica de aprendizaje. Material y método: Se utilizó un diseño experimental aleatorio controlado, utilizando 2 grupos control (n1,2 = 64) y un grupo experimental (n3 = 32). Datos cuantitativos (rendimiento académico) y cualitativos (encuesta de satisfacción) fueron recolectados para analizar la posible influencia del juego de roles en los estudiantes. Resultados: El rendimiento académico fue superior en el grupo experimental, comparado con los controles. El análisis cualitativo del grupo experimental muestra que los estudiantes se manifiestan satisfechos por la metodología, la función del tutor, el trabajo en equipo, la herramienta de evaluación utilizada y el tiempo asignado para esta actividad. Además, consideran que esta herramienta es útil ya que les permite simular situaciones similares a las que enfrentarán en su quehacer profesional. Conclusión: Es posible innovar en educación médica con impacto positivo en la satisfacción estudiantil. Este estudio entrega una alternativa de enseñanza que facilita la retroalimentación de los saberes, permite analizar la reacción de los estudiantes y las respuestas en el contexto de situaciones de la vida real. Abstract: Introduction: Nursing professionals offer expert advice to patients. The latter requires relational skills. Literature indicates that these skills are not developed only from theoretical knowledge. Therefore, it is essential to equip nursing students with tools that assist them to develop these skills. Accordingly, role-play is considered an educational technique of active learning that facilitates the development of relational skills. Aim: This paper aims to compare statically the students’ academic performance among groups of students exposed and not exposed to the role-play technique and characterise the students’ perception of satisfaction of whom participated in the role-play technique. Material and method: Using a randomised controlled experimental design, nursing students were assigned to control groups (expose to the role-play technique) and one experimental group. Quantitative (i.e., studentś academic performance) and qualitative data (i.e., students’ satisfaction survey) was collected to study the possible influence of the role-play technique in nursing students. Results: The studentś academic performance was higher in the experimental groups than in the control group. Qualitative analyses show that students are satisfied with the use of this. They also consider that this technique allows them to solve simulated problems similar to those they will face in their workplace. Conclusions: The results obtained in this study shows that it is possible to innovate with a positive impact of student satisfaction in medical education. The implications of this study are related to the use of an alternative teaching technique that promotes peer feedback, teamwork, and the analyses of studentś reaction and responses of real-life situations. Polyphenols from agro-food waste represent a valuable source of bioactive molecules that can be recovered to be used for their functional properties. Another option is to use them as starting material to generate molecules with new and better properties through semi-synthesis. A proanthocyanidin-rich (PACs) extract from avocado peels was used to prepare several semi-synthetic derivatives of epicatechin by acid cleavage in the presence of phenol and thiol nucleophiles. The adducts formed by this reaction were successfully purified using one-step centrifugal partition chromatography (CPC) and identified by chromatographic and spectroscopic methods. The nine derivatives showed a concentration-dependent free radical scavenging activity in the DPPH assay. All compounds were also tested against a panel of pathogenic bacterial strains formed by Listeria monocytogenes (ATCC 7644 and 19115), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 9144), Escherichia coli (ATCC 11775 and 25922), and Salmonella enterica (ATCC 13076). In addition, adducts were tested against two no-pathogenic strains, Limosilactobacillus fermentum UCO-979C and Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus UCO-25A. Overall, thiol-derived adducts displayed antimicrobial properties and, in some specific cases, inhibited biofilm formation, particularly in Listeria monocytogenes (ATCC 7644). Interestingly, phenolic adducts were inactive against all the strains and could not inhibit its biofilm formation. Moreover, depending on the structure, in specific cases, biofilm formation was strongly promoted. These findings contribute to demonstrating that CPC is a powerful tool to isolate new semi-synthetic molecules using avocado peels as starting material for PACc extraction. These compounds represent new lead molecules with antioxidant and antimicrobial activity.
