The study published in the International Journal of Dermatology examines the financial impact of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) on family income and expenditures. The research conducted in Brazil found that catastrophic costs, defined as expenses exceeding 20% of a household's annual income, were linked to higher direct treatment costs, lower family income, and increased transportation expenses for HS treatment. Patients with more severe HS, as indicated by higher International HS Severity Score System (IHS4) scores, experienced lower family incomes and higher direct treatment costs, highlighting the economic burden of the disease on families. The study emphasizes the need for future research and policies to address the economic impact of HS on patients and their families. [Extracted from the article]
