Zein particles are increasingly used for encapsulation and delivery of hydrophobic bioactive. Conjugation of zein with multi-carboxylic acids by the alkali-catalysed and wet amidation process causes zein crosslinking and enables tuning the characteristics of zein particles. However, little is known about how the conjugation is associated with the crosslinking mode, i.e., intra and/or intermolecular crosslinks. In this study, folic acid (FoA) was conjugated with zein via the wet method, and citrus essential oil (CEO) was encapsulated within the constructed zein-FoA particles. Infra-red spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance analysis indicated amide bond formation between zein and FoA showing that the content of primary amino groups in zein particles decreased due to conjugation. The mole fraction of FoA in the particles (χFoA) was measured as an index of conjugation extent and even though it did not exceed ∼0.1, conjugation influenced several characteristics of the particles. The contents of α-helix and β-turn structures decreased, and that of β-sheets increased with increasing χFoA. We hypothesized based on ζ-potential and hydrodynamic diameter results, as well as gel electrophoresis that conjugation with FoA caused formation of only intramolecular crosslinks at χFoA ≤ 0.035, but it additionally resulted in intermolecular crosslinks at χFoA ≥ 0.037. Conjugation with FoA at χFoA 0.091 resulted in an improvement of the zein particles biological performance. It caused an increase (∼30%) in the particle uptake by E. coli cells, as well as the magnitude of CEO delivery into the bacteria cells compared with non-conjugated particles.

Objective To describe the clinical characteristics of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) with venous tumor thrombus (VTT) and bland thrombus (BT), and to evaluate the influence of BT on surgical treatment and cancer‐specific survival (CSS) of RCC with VTT. Methods We retrospectively reviewed clinical data of 123 patients with RCC and VTT, who underwent surgical treatment in our center between February 2015 and May 2018. Patients were divided into the BT group (21 patients) and non‐BT group (102 patients). Chi‐square and Mann‐Whitney U test were used for categorical and continuous variables respectively. Univariable log‐rank tests and multivariable Cox regressions were conducted to evaluate the prognostic significance of each variable. Kaplan‐Meier plots were performed to evaluate the influence of BT. Results In the delayed phase of enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), BT and VTT had difference. Patients were divided according to the relative position of BT: proximal end BT (one patients), contralateral renal vein BT (two patients), distal end BT (12 patients), and multiple BT (six patients). The average length of BT was 8.4 ± 5.8 cm (range: 0.6‐20.0 cm). Patients with BT had longer operative time (P = .001), more surgical blood loss (P = .004), higher proportion of open surgery (P = .006), more postoperative complications (P = .011). BT (hazard ratio [HR] = 3.323, P = .007) were independent risk factors for poor prognosis. Conclusions In the delayed phase of enhanced MRI, BT showed no obvious enhancement, while VTT usually showed enhancement. This was an important basis for preoperative imaging diagnosis of BT. The presence of BT increases the difficulty of surgery, and is correlated with adverse survival outcomes in patients with RCC and VTT., MRI is an important examination for RCC patients with VTT and BT. BT has adverse influence on surgical treatment and survival.

In vertical seismic profiling (VSP) exploration, it is difficult to produce an accurate image for large-offset reflections only using reflection waves and the image resolution is low in traditional VSP-CDP stacking as is the number of folds of reflection points. To mitigate these problems, we present an inverse Gaussian beam stacking method for imaging both primary reflections and free-surface multiples. We first compute the stacking weighted functions at each trace location by Gaussian beam forward modeling, and then apply an inverse projection for VSP data to produce common shot gathers (CRP). Since inverse Gaussian beam stacking maps the common-shot data along finite-frequency wave-paths instead of single rays as the traditional ray-based stacking method does, it enlarges the reflection-point coverage, increases stacking fold and reduces the requirement for large bin sizes. We incorporate free-surface multiples into the proposed inverse Gaussian beam stacking, which enables us to expand the horizontal imaging aperture and mitigate the low-fold problem of primary reflections in the shallow large-offset regions for VSP surveys. Numerical examples for synthetic and field data demonstrate the feasibility and adaptability of the proposed inverse Gaussian beam stacking method for VSP data.

Citrus, one of the most popular fruits worldwide, contains various functional components, including flavonoids, dietary fibers (DFs), essential oils (EOs), synephrines, limonoids, and carotenoids. The functional components of citrus attract special attention due to their health-promoting effects. Food components undergo complex biotransformation by host itself and the gut microbiota after oral intake, which alters their bioaccessibility, bioavailability, and bioactivity in the host body. To better understand the health effects of citrus fruits, it is important to understand the in-vivo biotransformation of citrus functional components. We reviewed the biotransformation of citrus functional components (flavonoids, DFs, EOs, synephrines, limonoids, and carotenoids) in the body from their intake to excretion. In addition, we described the importance of biotransformation in terms of health effects. This review would facilitate mechanistic understanding of the health-promoting effect of citrus and its functional components, and also provide guidance for the development of health-promoting foods based on citrus and its functional components.

Background and purpose Nightmare distress (ND) is associated with a broad spectrum of psychopathological conditions such as anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder. Some studies have indicated that dream beliefs play an important role in the occurrence and treatment of nightmare distress. However, existing instruments used to assess dream beliefs either fail to satisfy the requirements of the psychometrics or fail to capture the essence of dream beliefs. This research pursued two objectives: (1) to develop a questionnaire, called the Beliefs About Dreams Questionnaire (BADQ), to measure beliefs people hold about their dreams and (2) to describe the dream beliefs of Chinese college students. Methods The structure and items on the BADQ were based on the previous literature and were the result of an open questionnaire. Some items were deleted through expert review and the result of predict test. To evaluate its validity and reliability, a sample of 1408 Chinese college students from two universities answered the BADQ, the Chinese version of Van Dream Anxiety Scale (CVDAS), the Dream Survey Questionnaire (DSQ), the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7(GAD-7) Questionnaire. After two weeks, 95 of them answered the BADQ again. Exploratory factor analysis (n=704) and confirmatory factor analysis (n=704) were conducted to explore and verify the structure of BADQ. The correlation between the CVDAS and the BADQ was calculated to evaluate the divergent validity. Results The BADQ contains 26 items. Exploratory factor analysis indicated a five-factor structure: Dream omen and health, Dream superstitions, Dream meaninglessness, Dream reality, and Dream attitude. The result of the confirmatory factor analysis also supported the five-factors structure. Acceptable internal consistency (Cronbach's α of all subscales exceeded 0.80) and ordinary to moderate test-retest reliability (the intraclass correlation coefficient of all subscales ranged from 0.467 to 0.713) of the BADQ were presented. Low degree correlation between the CVDAS and the BADQ (ranged from to -0.052 to 0.219) showed that they were two different variables, indicating a good divergent validity. Conclusion The present investigation revealed moderate to high construct validity and reliability of the BADQ.

Glioma is regarded as an aggressive lethal primary brain tumor. Jumonji domain containing 1C (JMJD1C) is a H3K9 demethylase which participates in the progression of various tumors, but its specific function and underlying mechanism in glioma development remain undefined, which is the purpose of our work. We initially assessed JMJD1C expression in glioma tissues and cells using the assays of RT‐qPCR and immunohistochemistry. Meanwhile, the H3K9 level at the microRNA (miR)‐302a promoter region was measured by chromatin immunoprecipitation assay, while luciferase‐based reporter assay was performed for validation of the binding affinity between miR‐302a and methyltransferase‐like 3 (METTL3). The effect of METTL3 on suppressor of cytokine signaling 2 (SOCS2) was subsequently analyzed by MeRIP‐RT‐qPCR. Finally, a xenograft tumor model was established in nude mice, followed by measurement of tumor‐associated macrophages using flow cytometry. JMJD1C was poorly expressed in glioma tissues. Furthermore, JMJD1C increased miR‐302a expression through promoting H3K9me1 demethylation at the miR‐302a promoter region. miR‐302a was identified to target METTL3, which could inhibit SOCS2 expression via m6A modification. JMJD1C promoted M1 macrophage polarization and suppressed the growth of glioma xenografts through the miR‐302a/METTL3/SOCS2 axis both in vivo and in vitro. In conclusion, JMJD1C could enhance M1 macrophage polarization to inhibit the onset of glioma, bringing a new insight into the contribution of JMJD1C to the pathobiology of glioma, with possible implications for targeted therapeutic method., Our results indicate that JMJD1C enhances M1 macrophage polarization to inhibit the onset of glioma, which brings a new insight for the contributions of JMJD1C to the pathobiology of glioma.

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is one of the most common tumors in the urinary system. Ferroptosis plays a vital role in ccRCC development and progression. We did an update of ferroptosis-related multigene expression signature for individualized prognosis prediction in patients with ccRCC. Differentially expressed ferroptosis-related genes in ccRCC and normal samples were screened using The Cancer Genome Atlas. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses and machine learning methods were employed to identify optimal prognosis-related genes. CARS1, CD44, FANCD2, HMGCR, NCOA4, SLC7A11, and ACACA were selected to establish a prognostic risk score model. Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analyses revealed that these genes were mainly enriched in immune-related pathways; single-sample Gene Set Enrichment Analysis revealed several immune cells potentially related to ferroptosis. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis demonstrated that patients with high-risk scores had significantly poor overall survival (log-rank P = 7.815 × 10–11). The ferroptosis signature was identified as an independent prognostic factor. Finally, a prognostic nomogram, including the ferroptosis signature, age, histological grade, and stage status, was constructed. Analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas-based calibration plots, C-index, and decision curve indicated the excellent predictive performance of the nomogram. The ferroptosis-related seven-gene risk score model is useful as a prognostic biomarker and suggests therapeutic targets for ccRCC. The prognostic nomogram may assist in individualized survival prediction and improve treatment strategies.

Vertical seismic profiling (VSP) technology plays an important role in oil and gas exploration. It can obtain data in the well with higher resolution than conventional surface seismic imaging methods, and effectively identify small faults along the well, thereby improving the description accuracy of the reservoir. Gaussian beam migration (GBM) has the ability to calculate the multi-arrival travel time, which has the advantages of both high efficiency and high imaging accuracy. In this paper, the observation system and the local plane wave decomposition step will be adjusted to expand the prestack GBM into a VSP imaging method. A layer model and a complex model will be employed to verify the imaging ability of VSP GBM. The correctness of VSP GBM will be proved by practical data test through comparing the results of VSP GBM with Kirchhoff migration in surface seismic.

Background Hepatoma-derived growth factor (HDGF) is a heparin-binding protein that has been observed to be abnormally expressed in numerous malignancies, but the definite role of HDGF in bladder cancer (BCa) has not been clarified. Here, we conduct the present study to evaluate correlations between HDGF and BCa. Methods Bioinformatics analysis was used to evaluate HDGF expression levels in BCa tissues. The effect of HDGF on cell proliferation, migration, invasion, cell cycle and apoptosis was analyzed utilizing CCK-8, clone formation, Transwell assays and flow cytometry, respectively. In addition, the xenograft tumor model was established. Results Based on bioinformatics analysis, we noticed that HDGF was highly expressed in BCa tissues and was positively correlated with poor prognosis in patients. Knockdown of HDGF markedly reduced tumorigenesis in BCa cells. Furthermore, the results of flow cytometry showed that HDGF deletion enhanced apoptosis in T24 and 253J cells and led to cell cycle arrest in G1 phase. In further studies, we found that tumor growth was inhibited in xenograft nude mouse models with HDGF deletion. The results of RNA-seq analysis revealed that the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway-related genes were obviously changed in HDGF-deficient 253J cells, and this result was further confirmed by Western blot analysis. Conclusion In summary, we suggest that HDGF plays a substantial role in BCa and promotes tumor development and progression by regulating the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway, which provides a promising target for BCa treatment.

The first asymmetric total synthesis of (+)-isocryptotanshinone was achieved in 12 linear steps with 12% overall yield from commercially available dihydrobenzopyrone. The key step was a base-mediated cyclization reaction. In addition, the synthetic strategy included the formal synthesis of (−)-cryptotanshinone.

Bysspectin A (1), an unusual polyketide-derived octaketide dimer, has highly selective inhibitory activities against human carboxylesterase 2 (hCE2) with an IC50 value of 2.01 μM. Herein, we report the first synthesis of this natural product. The synthesis relies upon a key Cu-catalysed domino Sonogashira-cyclization process.

Reduced Activation Ferritic/Martensitic (RAFM) steels have been considered as the most promising candidate structural materials for a fusion reactor. In this paper, the hydrogen diffusion behavior of two types of RAFM steels, called China Low Activation Martensitic (CLAM) steel and China Low-activation Ferritic (CLF-1) steel, have been studied by electrochemical technique over the temperature range of 293–323 K. Before hydrogen permeation, both sides of the CLAM and CLF-1 steels were coated with a thin layer of uniform and dense palladium (Pd) membrane by electro-plating method. The results showed that the diffusion coefficients of hydrogen through CLAM and CLF-1 steels were submitted to the relationships of D(cm2/s) = 3.04 × 10−6exp[-4.72(kJ⋅mol-1)/RT] and D(cm2/s) = 1.82 × 10-5exp[-10.07(kJ⋅mol-1)/RT], which were far higher than that of some other austenitic stainless steels, such as 316 S.S. This indicates that if the RAFM steels as the structural material for fusion reactor are free from hydrogen environment, the hydrogen isotopes will escape from them quickly under low temperatures, which is conducive to keeping the mechanical properties of RAFMs.

The tritium recovery behaviors and related mechanisms in lithium-based breeding materials are the major concerns in fusion reactors. In the present work, the energetics of intrinsic point defects and H-related defects in Li2O has been investigated by the first-principles method. The results show that the formation energies, charge states and relative stability of the intrinsic point defects and H-related defects in Li2O under working conditions vary with the energy level. Based on the defect properties and migration process, a model of the tritium trapping and migration mechanisms in Li2O is proposed: (1) the bred tritium is first trapped by oxygen vacancies; (2) subsequently the tritium detrapped from oxygen vacancies is retrapped by lithium vacancies, forming T substituents; and (3) the T substituents hop along the Li lattice.

Objective: To evaluate the value of serum sialic acid (SA) in diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostate cancer (PCa), and bone metastases in PCa patients. Materials and Methods: Data from 540 patients who were newly diagnosed with PCa or BPH between November 2014 and March 2018 were retrospectively collected and analyzed. Pretreatment SA levels were compared across various groups, then, associations between SA levels and clinic parameters of patients were analyzed as well. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were further used to identify independent associations. Results: The mean SA levels in patients with PCa were significantly higher than with BPH (p = 0.013). Furthermore, PCa patients with bone metastases showed elevated SA levels compared with PCa without bone metastases (p < 0.001). A multivariate logistic regression model showed that: SA level > 52.35 mg/dL was identified to be independently associated with the diagnosis of PCa (HR = 1.645, p = 0.036), and SA level > 59 mg/dL was identified to be independent association with the presence of bone metastases in PCa patients (HR = 6.421, p = 0.012). Conclusions: Elevated SA level is an independent predictor of prostate cancer as well as its bone metastases. Therefore, SA level may be a promising diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for prostate cancer and bone metastases.

Purpose To explore the safety and effectiveness of delayed occlusion of the proximal inferior vena cava (DOPI) technique in retroperitoneal laparoscopic radical nephrectomy (LRN) and thrombectomy for renal tumor with level II-III venous tumor thrombus (VTT). Materials and methods From August 2016 to October 2018, a total of 145 patients with renal tumor and VTT were admitted to our centre. Seventy-five patients underwent laparoscopic surgery, and 70 patients underwent open surgery. Among these patients, 17 patients underwent retroperitoneal LRN and thrombectomy with the DOPI technique. Clinical data were collected retrospectively, and a descriptive statistical analysis was conducted. Results All the patients successfully underwent retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery. The mean operation time was 345.9 ± 182.9 min, the mean estimated blood loss was 466.7 ± 245.5 ml. Postoperative complications occurred in three patients, including two patients of Clavien grading system level IVa and one patient of level II. There were no complications related to carbon dioxide pneumoperitoneum, such as gas embolism, acidosis, and subcutaneous emphysema. During 21 months of median follow-up time, no local recurrence was found, and distant metastasis occurred in four patients. Cancer-specific death occurred in two patients. Conclusions The DOPI technique is safe and feasible in the treatment of renal tumor and level II-III VTT. With the DOPI technique, the procedures of dissociating and exposing proximal inferior vena cava are simplified.

Background Urothelial carcinoma (UC) of the renal pelvis with renal vein and inferior vena cava (IVC) tumor thrombus (TT) was extremely rare. We aimed to explore the clinical and pathological characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of renal pelvis UC with renal vein and IVC TT. Methods From March 2016 to January 2019, eight patients of renal pelvis UC with renal vein and IVC TT were diagnosed and underwent operation in our hospital. Clinical features, operative details, pathological outcomes, and prognosis data were reviewed and collected. Results There were five males and three females (52-84 years old). Their main symptoms were flank pain and hematuria. According to the Mayo classification, the TT was 4 level-0 (1 left and 3 right), 2 level-I (right), and 2 level-II (right). Half the patients underwent retroperitoneal laparoscopic radical nephroureterectomy with thrombectomy, and the other underwent open procedures. The mean operative time was 298.9 minutes. Pathological outcomes revealed high-grade UC, with positive lymph nodes in 6 cases. Four patients received adjuvant chemotherapy, one target therapy and one adjuvant chemotherapy combined with immunotherapy after surgery. The mean follow-up time was 11.1 months. Three patients are alive, and two of them developed recurrence and lung metastasis. Conclusions Preoperative differentiation between renal pelvis UC and renal cell carcinoma with venous TT was very important for the management. Radical nephroureterectomy with thrombectomy might be a reasonable method for renal pelvis UC with venous TT. The prognosis of such cases was poor even if adjuvant therapy was scheduled.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been proved to have an important role in different malignancies including clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). However, their role in disease progression is still not clear. The objective of the study was to identify lncRNA-based prognostic biomarkers and further to investigate the role of one lncRNA LINC01234 in progression of ccRCC cells. We found that six adverse prognostic lncRNA biomarkers including LINC01234 were identified in ccRCC patients by bioinformatic analysis using The Cancer Genome Atlas database. LINC01234 knockdown impaired cell proliferation, migration and invasion in vitro as compared to negative control. Furthermore, the epithelial-mesenchymal transition was inhibited after LINC01234 knockdown. Additionally, LINC01234 knockdown impaired hypoxia-inducible factor-2a (HIF-2α) pathways, including a suppression of the expression of HIF-2α, vascular endothelial growth factor A, epidermal growth factor receptor, c-Myc, Cyclin D1 and MET. Together, these datas showed that LINC01234 was likely to regulate the progression of ccRCC by HIF-2α pathways, and LINC01234 was both a promising prognostic biomarker and a potential therapeutic target for ccRCC.

In order to improve the security of power material logistics information sharing, a security sharing model of power material logistics information based on blockchain technology is designed. The logistics information collection device is designed and installed in the logistics information system of power enterprises to obtain the logistics information in real time. The collected information is stored in the blockchain in chronological order, the information feature space is reconstructed, and the information tamper proof strategy is designed to construct the security sharing model of power material logistics information. The experimental results show that the model can effectively avoid the problem of information disclosure, the response and sharing time of information sharing request is short.

A two-step organic sol–gel process for the preparation of monodispersed or narrow-dispersed melamine–formaldehyde (MF) resin polymer colloidal spheres in water was developed. A modified Stober process was used to coat the MF colloidal spheres with silica shells, which rendered the surfaces of these colloidal spheres easily modifiable. The prepared MF@silica core–shell composite colloidal spheres were then bioconjugated with bovine serum albumin to demonstrate the feasibility of using these colloidal particles as supporting materials in bioassays. The particle formation mechanism of this organic sol–gel process was investigated by time-resolved microscopic analysis. The prepared MF nano-/microscale resin polymer spheres were monodispersed or narrow-dispersed with a controllable average size ranging from 30 nm to 250 nm and from 0.8 μm to 4.5 μm. The spheres were stable in aqueous or organic solvents and after heat treatment above 300 °C. A “controlled aggregation” model was proposed to explain the influences of the key factors in this process.

A comprehensive method combining polymerization-induced colloid aggregation, silica coating, and high-temperature calcination is developed for the preparation of micro-sized magnetic colloidal nanoparticle cluster/silica (CNC/silica) microspheres. The silica shell stabilizes the inner micro-sized γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticle clusters without phase transformation during high-temperature calcination instead of acting as anti-sintering agents. Their morphologies and inner structures are observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The material characteristics are investigated by Fourier transfer infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) and vibrating-sample magnetometer (VSM). The biocompatibility and MRI enhancement effect of CNC/silica microspheres are also evaluated by MTT assay and MRI imaging. The prepared CNC/silica microspheres are narrow-dispersed with a wide size range of 1.8 μm to 5.0 μm. These microspheres also have the advantages of higher saturation magnetization (61.38 emu g−1), easily modifiable surfaces, good biocompatibility, high cell-label efficiencies, and significantly enhanced T2 effect in MRI, indicating their various potential applications in biomedical fields.

Hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1), an important transcription factor for tumor survival, is an attractive target for anti-cancer treatment. Herein, we present the design and synthesis of LXY7824, a simplified analogue of 4-O-methylsaucerneol. In addition, its significant HIF-1 inhibitory activity and potent anti-cancer activity in vivo and in vitro were also reported.
