Abstract Menaquinone (MK) in bacterial membrane is an attractive target for the development of novel therapeutic agents. Mining the untapped chemical diversity encoded by Gram-negative bacteria presents an opportunity to identify additional MK-binding antibiotics (MBAs). By MK-binding motif searching of bioinformatically predicted linear non-ribosomal peptides from 14,298 sequenced genomes of 45 underexplored Gram-negative bacterial genera, here we identify a novel MBA structural family, including silvmeb and pseudomeb, using structure prediction-guided chemical synthesis. Both MBAs show rapid bacteriolysis by MK-dependent membrane depolarization to achieve their potent activities against a panel of Gram-positive pathogens. Furthermore, both MBAs are proven to be effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in a murine peritonitis-sepsis model. Our findings suggest that MBAs are a kind of structurally diverse and still underexplored antibacterial lipodepsipeptide class. The interrogation of underexplored bacterial taxa using synthetic bioinformatic natural product methods is an appealing strategy for discovering novel biomedically relevant agents to confront the crisis of antimicrobial resistance.

Abstract To compare the efficacy and advantages of mini percutaneous nephrostomy (MPCN), micropercutaneous nephrostomy (MicroPCN), and retrograde ureteric stenting (RUS) in the treatment of acute upper urinary tract calculi (UUTC) obstruction with hydronephrosis and infection, and verify the safety and indications of clinical application of micropercutaneous nephrostomy. Abstract Understanding litter decomposition processes in coastal macrophyte habitats is critically important for predicting ecosystem functioning. However, decomposition processes of litter mixtures in coastal habitats remain largely unexplored. Here, we evaluated the litter mixture effects on the decomposition of six marine macrophytes (two seagrasses and four macroalgae) through in situ litter-mixing experiments with five levels of litter species richness and 36 different litter compositions. We found that the litter species identity and composition, rather than species richness, were crucial in structuring benthic faunal communities. Macroalgal litter, particularly Sargassum sp., hosted higher numbers of polychaetes and crustaceans than seagrass litter. More macroalgal presence induced faster decomposition rates of seagrass litter in the late stage, but not in the early stage. These findings suggest that changes in macrophyte diversity and composition can alter decomposition processes and, consequently, the sediment organic carbon stock through the transition of litter sources and benthic faunas.

Abstract Background Plant-specific TIFY proteins play crucial roles in regulating plant growth, development, and various stress responses. However, there is no information available about this family in Artemisia argyi, a well-known traditional medicinal plant with great economic value. Results A total of 34 AaTIFY genes were identified, including 4 TIFY, 22 JAZ, 5 PPD, and 3 ZML genes. Structural, motif scanning, and phylogenetic relationships analysis of these genes revealed that members within the same group or subgroup exhibit similar exon-intron structures and conserved motif compositions. The TIFY genes were unevenly distributed across the 15 chromosomes. Tandem duplication events and segmental duplication events have been identified in the TIFY family in A. argyi. These events have played a crucial role in the gene multiplication and compression of different subfamilies within the TIFY family. Promoter analysis revealed that most AaTIFY genes contain multiple cis-elements associated with stress response, phytohormone signal transduction, and plant growth and development. Expression analysis of roots and leaves using RNA-seq data revealed that certain AaTIFY genes showed tissue-specific expression patterns, and some AaTIFY genes, such as AaTIFY19/29, were found to be involved in regulating salt and saline-alkali stresses. In addition, RT-qPCR analysis showed that TIFY genes, especially AaTIFY19/23/27/29, respond to a variety of hormonal treatments, such as MeJA, ABA, SA, and IAA. This suggested that TIFY genes in A. argyi regulate plant growth and respond to different stresses by following different hormone signaling pathways. Conclusion Taken together, our study conducted a comprehensive identification and analysis of the TIFY gene family in A. argyi. These findings suggested that TIFY might play an important role in plant development and stress responses, which laid a valuable foundation for further understanding the function of TIFY genes in multiple stress responses and phytohormone crosstalk in A. argyi.

Abstract Background The acute levodopa challenge test (ALCT) is a universal method for evaluating levodopa response (LR). Assessment of Movement Disorder Society’s Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale part III (MDS-UPDRS III) is a key step in ALCT, which is some extent subjective and inconvenience. Methods This study developed a machine learning method based on instrumented Timed Up and Go (iTUG) test to evaluate the patients’ response to levodopa and compared it with classic ALCT. Forty-two patients with parkinsonism were recruited and administered with levodopa. MDS-UPDRS III and the iTUG were conducted in both OFF-and ON-medication state. Kinematic parameters, signal time and frequency domain features were extracted from sensor data. Two XGBoost models, levodopa response regression (LRR) model and motor symptom evaluation (MSE) model, were trained to predict the levodopa response (LR) of the patients using leave-one-subject-out cross-validation. Results The LR predicted by the LRR model agreed with that calculated by the classic ALCT (ICC = 0.95). When the LRR model was used to detect patients with a positive LR, the positive predictive value was 0.94. Conclusions Machine learning based on wearable sensor data and the iTUG test may be effective and comprehensive for evaluating LR and predicting the benefit of dopaminergic therapy.

Abstract Background The active functionalities of RNA are recognized to be heavily dependent on the structure and sequence. Therefore, a model that can accurately evaluate a design by giving RNA sequence-structure pairs would be a valuable tool for many researchers. Machine learning methods have been explored to develop such tools, showing promising results. However, two key issues remain. Firstly, the performance of machine learning models is affected by the features used to characterize RNA. Currently, there is no consensus on which features are the most effective for characterizing RNA sequence-structure pairs. Secondly, most existing machine learning methods extract features describing entire RNA molecule. We argue that it is essential to define additional features that characterize nucleotides and specific sections of RNA structure to enhance the overall efficacy of the RNA design process. Results We develop two deep learning models for evaluating RNA sequence-secondary structure pairs. The first model, NU-ResNet, uses a convolutional neural network architecture that solves the aforementioned problems by explicitly encoding RNA sequence-structure information into a 3D matrix. Building upon NU-ResNet, our second model, NUMO-ResNet, incorporates additional information derived from the characterizations of RNA, specifically the 2D folding motifs. In this work, we introduce an automated method to extract these motifs based on fundamental secondary structure descriptions. We evaluate the performance of both models on an independent testing dataset. Our proposed models outperform the models from literatures in this independent testing dataset. To assess the robustness of our models, we conduct 10-fold cross validation. To evaluate the generalization ability of NU-ResNet and NUMO-ResNet across different RNA families, we train and test our proposed models in different RNA families. Our proposed models show superior performance compared to the models from literatures when being tested across different independent RNA families. Conclusions In this study, we propose two deep learning models, NU-ResNet and NUMO-ResNet, to evaluate RNA sequence-secondary structure pairs. These two models expand the field of data-driven approaches for learning RNA. Furthermore, these two models provide the new method to encode RNA sequence-secondary structure pairs.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the clinical outcomes of arthroscopic inside-out ganglionectomy of dominant dorsal wrist ganglion. Methods Patients with dominant wrist ganglion cyst treated in our hospital from January 1, 2014 to June 31, 2023 was enrolled in this retrospective analysis. All patients underwent dye-assist arthroscopic inside-out ganglionectomy. After discharge, the patients were followed for a minimum of 6 months. The primary outcomes were to assess patient wrist function using the Patient-Rated Wrist Evaluation (PRWE) and Mayo Modified Wrist Score (MMWS). The secondary outcomes were visual analog score (VAS), wrist active range of motion (ROM), grip strength, recurrence rate and complication. Results All ganglion were successfully resected after dye staining. Patients were followed for an average of 12.17 months. There were no significant changes between preoperative and postoperative wrist active ROM or grip strength, except for wrist flexion (which showed a slightly greater improvement after surgery, P = 0.049), there were notable improvements in VAS, MMWS, and PRWE postoperatively. Recurrence occurred in 3 patients. No major complications observed during the follow-up period. Conclusion Dye-assist arthroscopic inside-out ganglionectomy is safe and uncomplicated, worth of clinical promotion.

Abstract Purpose Osteosarcoma (OS) is a primary bone tumor with high malignancy and poor prognosis. Ferroptosis plays a crucial role in OS. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Ankyrin 1 (ANK1) on OS and to investigate its specific mechanisms. Methods Microarray datasets related to “osteosarcoma” were selected for this study. Relevant hub genes in OS were identified through bioinformatics analysis. Transfected U-2OS and MG-63 cells were used for in vitro experiments. The effects of ANK1 overexpression on cell viability, migration, and invasion were determined through CCK-8, wound healing, and transwell assays. An OS mouse model was established for the in vivo experiments. Hematoxylin-eosin staining and immunohistochemistry were conducted to observe the histological effects of ANK1 overexpression on mouse tumors. TUNEL staining was performed to evaluate apoptosis in mouse. Results There were 159 common differentially expressed genes in the GSE16088 and GSE19276 datasets. The hub genes ANK1, AHSP, GYPB, GYPA, KEL, and ALAS2 were identified. Pan-cancer analysis verified that ANK1 was closely associated with cancer prognosis and immune infiltration. Furthermore, ANK1 overexpression inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of OS cells and promoted ferroptosis, while ferroptosis inhibitor (fer-1) weakened these effects. Moreover, ANK1 overexpression suppressed tumor growth, promoted apoptosis, reduced the number of Ki67 positive cells, and elevated the number of caspase-3 positive cells in vivo. Conclusions ANK1 is a prognosis biomarker of OS that can alleviate the progression of OS by promoting ferroptosis.

Abstract Developing light yet strong aluminum (Al)-based alloys has been attracting unremitting efforts due to the soaring demand for energy-efficient structural materials. However, this endeavor is impeded by the limited solubility of other lighter components in Al. Here, we propose to surmount this challenge by converting multiple brittle phases into a ductile solid solution in Al-based complex concentrated alloys (CCA) by applying high pressure and temperature. We successfully develop a face-centered cubic single-phase Al-based CCA, Al55Mg35Li5Zn5, with a low density of 2.40 g/cm3 and a high specific yield strength of 344×103 N·m/kg (typically ~ 200×103 N·m/kg in conventional Al-based alloys). Our analysis reveals that formation of the single-phase CCA can be attributed to the decreased difference in atomic size and electronegativity between the solute elements and Al under high pressure, as well as the synergistic high entropy effect caused by high temperature and high pressure. The increase in strength originates mainly from high solid solution and nanoscale chemical fluctuations. Our findings could offer a viable route to explore lightweight single-phase CCAs in a vast composition-temperature-pressure space with enhanced mechanical properties.

Objective(s): The material used for bone tissue repair needs to be simultaneously osteoconductive, osteoinductive, and osteogenic. To overcome this problem, researchers combine hydroxyapatite (HA) with natural materials to improve properties. This paper compares the effects of angiogenesis and osteogenesis with different composites through in vivo experiments and characterization analysis. Materials and Methods: Chitosan/nHA (CS/nHA) and sodium alginate/nHA (SA/nHA) microspheres were synthesized via reverse-phase emulsification crosslinking and analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersion spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Implanted into mouse thigh muscles, their angiogenic and osteogenic potentials were assessed after 8 and 12 weeks through various staining methods and immunohistochemistry. Results: The mean vascular density (MVD) of CS/nHA, CaP/nHA, and SA/nHA groups was (134.92±35.30) n/mm2, (159.09±22.14) n/mm2, (160.31±42.23) n/mm2 at 12 weeks, respectively. The MVD of the CaP/nHA and SA/nHA groups were significantly higher than that of the CS/nHA group. The collagen volume fractions (CVF) were 34.13%, 51.53%, and 54.96% in the CS/nHA, CaP/nHA, and SA/nHA groups, respectively. In addition, the positive expression area ratios of OPN and CD31 in the CaP/nHA and SA/nHA groups were also significantly higher than those in the CS/nHA group.Conclusion: The ability of SA/nHA composite microspheres in osteogenesis and angiogenesis is clearly superior to that of the CS/nHA group and is comparable to that of CaP/nHA, which has superior osteogenesis ability, indicating that SA/nHA composite microspheres have greater application prospects in bone tissue engineering.

Abstract Polyamorphic transition (PT) is a compelling and pivotal physical phenomenon in the field of glass and materials science. Understanding this transition is of scientific and technological significance, as it offers an important pathway for effectively tuning the structure and property of glasses. In contrast to the PT observed in conventional metallic glasses (MGs), which typically exhibit a pronounced first-order nature, herein we report a continuous PT (CPT) without first-order characteristics in high-entropy MGs (HEMGs) upon heating. This CPT behavior is featured by the continuous structural evolution at the atomic level and an increasing chemical concentration gradient with temperature, but no abrupt reduction in volume and energy. The continuous transformation is associated with the absence of local favorable structures and chemical heterogeneity caused by the high configurational entropy, which limits the distance and frequency of atomic diffusion. As a result of the CPT, numerous glass states can be generated, which provides an opportunity to understand the nature, atomic packing, formability, and properties of MGs. Moreover, this discovery highlights the implication of configurational entropy in exploring polyamorphic glasses with an identical composition but highly tunable structures and properties.

Identifying the prevalence and risk factors of secondary human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission from people living with HIV (PLWH) to other people is crucial for ending the HIV epidemic. However, the data among antiretroviral therapy (ART) patients is limited. This study aims to assess the prevalence and risk factors of secondary HIV transmission among PLWH receiving ART by longitudinal molecular networks in China. In this study, the prevalence of secondary HIV transmission was 10.8%. The R0 was greater than 1 from 2017 to 2021 and peaked in 2019. PLWHs who were male sex, older age, engaged in condomless sex, experienced higher ART follow-up viral load, experienced ART medical omissions, infected with non-CRF01_AE subtype, and self-reported sexually transmitted infections (STIs) at HIV diagnosis increased the risk of secondary HIV transmission. However, those participants with higher education were less likely to be involved in secondary HIV transmission. The diagnostic age of the participants was nonlinearly associated with the risk of secondary HIV transmission, with a cutoff value of 43.13 years indicating a higher risk of secondary HIV transmission for patients diagnosed at or above this age. This study revealed substantial secondary HIV transmission and persistent HIV expansion among local PLWH, highlighting the necessity of enhancing viral load monitor, promoting adherence to ART, and promoting safe sex practices, particularly among older adults with HIV, to mitigate secondary HIV transmission.

ABSTRACTThe multi-angle method in the pixel dichotomy model (PDM) is used to produce fine spatial resolution (FSR) products of fractional vegetation cover (FVC), which involves numerous iterative computations. This phenomenon causes a low computational efficiency for global FVC. Here, we established the multi-angle equations, and simplified the two-stream approximation method to obtain multi-angle reflectance, which calculated the KDM parameters possible. Moreover, to accelerate the calculation of parameters in the multi-angle equations, land cover data were utilized as priority knowledge, which aims to decrease iterative computations to speed up the computational speed. Finally, we proposed an accelerated pixel dichotomy coupled linear kernel-driven model (PDKDM-A). By validating PDKDM-A using field measurements and FVC products, we found that the global FVC computed for various land covers exhibited strong agreement with the field measurements. The root mean square errors (RMSEs) were consistently below 0.150, except for grasslands, croplands, and cropland/natural vegetation mosaics. When comparing FVC products on the same scale, we discovered that the RMSE was less than 0.103, except for deciduous broadleaf forests. Our study demonstrates that PDKDM-A is an efficient algorithm, with the potential to quickly generate accurate global FVC products with fine spatial resolution.

BackgroundPulmonary hypertension (PH) in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) has a high incidence rate and mortality and its early identification is critical. However, whether a combination of clinical, electrocardiographic, and echocardiographic parameters can predict the occurrence of PH in patients with ESRD remains to be elucidated. Herein, we evaluated the predictive value of the combined score of these parameters.MethodsData from 370 patients with newly diagnosed ESRD who underwent routine echocardiography and electrocardiography between May 2016 and May 2017 were retrospectively evaluated. The incidence of PH during a 60-month follow-up period was investigated. Twenty-one patients were excluded due to incomplete data among other reasons. Finally, 349 patients were included in the analysis, of whom, 158 (45%) developed PH.ResultsAnalysis of electrocardiogram reports suggested that a corrected Q-T interval (QTc) of >438.5 ms was associated with PH. Echocardiographic reports suggest that left atrial diameter (LAD), interventricular septum thickness in end-diastole (IVSd), stroke volume (SV), and pericardial effusion are also associated with PH development. Results of multivariate Cox analysis showed that LAD >3.785 cm, IVSd >1.165 cm, SV >79.5 ml, QTc >438.5 ms, and pericardial effusion were independent predictors of PH in patients with ESRD. The incidence of new-onset PH increased significantly with increasing composite scores, that is, the sum of risk scores determined using hazard ratios.ConclusionsA total score that includes a combination of parameters such as LAD >3.785 cm, IVSd>1.165 cm, SV >79.5 ml, QTc >438.5 ms, and pericardial effusion can help describe the risk of new-onset PH.

IntroductionThe integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in pathogenic microbiology has accelerated research and innovation. This study aims to explore the evolution and trends of AI applications in this domain, providing insights into how AI is transforming research and practice in pathogenic microbiology.MethodsWe employed bibliometric analysis and topic modeling to examine 27,420 publications from the Web of Science Core Collection, covering the period from 2010 to 2024. These methods enabled us to identify key trends, research areas, and the geographical distribution of research efforts.ResultsSince 2016, there has been an exponential increase in AI-related publications, with significant contributions from China and the USA. Our analysis identified eight major AI application areas: pathogen detection, antibiotic resistance prediction, transmission modeling, genomic analysis, therapeutic optimization, ecological profiling, vaccine development, and data management systems. Notably, we found significant lexical overlaps between these areas, especially between drug resistance and vaccine development, suggesting an interconnected research landscape.DiscussionAI is increasingly moving from laboratory research to clinical applications, enhancing hospital operations and public health strategies. It plays a vital role in optimizing pathogen detection, improving diagnostic speed, treatment efficacy, and disease control, particularly through advancements in rapid antibiotic susceptibility testing and COVID-19 vaccine development. This study highlights the current status, progress, and challenges of AI in pathogenic microbiology, guiding future research directions, resource allocation, and policy-making.

In this letter, the motion of small gas bubbles within sessile water drops on a vibrating substrate is investigated numerically using a two-phase diffuse interface method. Depending on the amplitude of the plate vibration, the motion of the gas bubbles falls into three distinct regimes: oscillating within the drop, sticking to the substrate, or escaping from the drop. In particular, the motion of oscillating bubbles follows a harmonic function, and is found to be closely related to a combined effect of the deformation of the sessile drop and the vibration of the plate. To interpret the underlying mechanism, we analyze the dominant forces acting on the bubbles in the non-inertial framework fixed to the plate, and take account of the periodic deformation of the drop, which effectively induces flow acceleration inside the drop. As a result, we establish a theoretical model to predict the bubble motion, and correlate the amplitude and phase difference of the bubble with the Bond and Strouhal numbers. The theoretical prediction agrees with our numerical results. These findings and theoretical analysis provide new insights into controlling bubble motion in sessile drops.

BackgroundCurrent lines of evidence indicate that cysteine-rich secretory protein 3 (CRISP3) is an immunoregulatory factor. Nevertheless, no study has explored the relationships between the values of CRISP3 and sepsis.MethodsWe conducted a comprehensive literature search and meta-analysis from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and ArrayExpress to determine the expression of CRISP3 in sepsis patients. Then, we explored whether plasma CRISP3 could serve as a potential biomarker to predict the risk of sepsis via two retrospective trauma cohorts. We evaluated the prediction power using the area under the curve (AUC).ResultsA total of 23 datasets were recruited for the comprehensive meta-analysis, and the combined standardized mean difference (SMD) of CRISP3 was 0.90 (0.50–1.30) (p < 0.001), suggesting that CRISP3 was overexpressed in sepsis patients. Meanwhile, sepsis patients had higher CRISP3 concentrations than non-sepsis patients in 54 trauma patients (p < 0.001). Plasma CRISP3 on admission was significantly associated with the incidence of sepsis [OR = 1.004 (1.002–1.006), p < 0.001]. As a predictive biomarker, CRISP3 obtained a better AUC [0.811 (0.681–0.905)] than C-reactive protein (CRP) [0.605 (0.463–0.735)], procalcitonin (PCT) [0.554 (0.412–0.689)], and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) [0.754 (0.618–0.861)]. Additionally, the clinical relationships between plasma CRISP3 and sepsis were verified in another trauma cohort with 166 patients [OR = 1.002 (1.001–1.003), p < 0.001]. The AUC of CRISP3 was 0.772 (0.701–0.834), which was better than that of CRP [0.521 (0.442–0.599)] and PCT [0.531 (0.452–0.609)], but not SOFA [0.791 (0.717–0.853)].ConclusionOur study indicated and validated that CRISP3 was highly expressed in sepsis. More importantly, CRISP3 may serve as a latent biomarker to predict the risk of sepsis.

Abstract Perovskite solar cells' (PSCs) potential lead leakage seriously threatens ecosystems and human health, significantly hindering their commercialization. In this paper, we develope a cost‐effective (less than 2$/m2) and long‐term stable SSP film by mixing sulfonated SiO2 with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Combined with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) forming the encapsulation layer, it can effectively prevent over 99% of lead leakage under simulated adverse weather conditions with different structures of devices (p‐i‐n and n‐i‐p) and modules. Even after 160 days of air storage, the film maintains excellent lead sequestration efficiency. Additionally, it has no negative impact on the performance and stability. This work offers a practical and economical strategy to mitigate the toxicity of perovskite photovoltaic devices, thereby promoting their commercialization.

Abstract As a new avenue for cancer research, phototheranostics has shown inexhaustible and vigorous vitality as it permits real‐time diagnosis and concurrent in situ therapy upon non‐invasive light‐initiation. However, construction of an advanced material, allowing prominent phototheranostic outputs and synchronously surmounting the inherent deficiency of phototheranostics, would be an appealing yet significantly challenging task. Herein, an aggregation‐induced emission (AIE)‐active luminogen (namely DBD‐TM) featured by intensive electron donor‐acceptor strength and twisted architecture with finely modulated intramolecular motion, is tactfully designed and prepared. DBD‐TM simultaneously possessed fluorescence emission in the second near‐infrared (NIR‐II) region and high‐efficiency photothermal conversion. By integrating DBD‐TM with anti‐angiogenic agent sorafenib, a versatile nanomaterial is smoothly fabricated and utilized for trimodal imaging‐navigated synergistic therapy involving photothermal therapy and anti‐angiogenesis toward cancer. This advanced approach is capable of affording accurate tumor diagnosis, complete tumor elimination, and largely restrained tumor recurrence, evidently denoting a prominent theranostic formula beyond phototheranostics. This study will offer a blueprint for exploiting a new generation of cancer theranostics.

Layered double hydroxide (LDH) is considered a highly promising electrode material for supercapacitors (SCs) due to its high theoretical specific capacitance. However, LDH powders often suffer from poor electrical conductivity, structure pulverization, slow charge transport, and insufficient active sites. Herein, a self‐supporting electrode with a Mott–Schottky heterostructure has been designed for high‐performance SCs. The electrode consists of low crystallinity NiCo‐LDH nanosheets and vertical graphene (VG) directly grown on carbon cloth. The LDH was converted from a metal–organic framework (MOF) by the sol–gel method. This self‐supporting electrode provides fast charge transfer, reducing the pulverization effect and energy barrier. The Mott–Schottky heterostructure of LDH@VG regulates electron density and enhances electron transfer, as confirmed by density functional theory calculation. The optimized LDH@VG heterostructure electrode exhibits an excellent areal capacitance of 5513.8 mF cm−2 and rate capability of 82.1%. Furthermore, the fabricated hybrid SC demonstrates excellent energy density of 404.8 μWh cm−2 at 1.6 mW cm−2 and a remarkable cycling life, with a capacitance of 92.0% after 10 000 cycles. This work not only provides a simple dip‐coating and MOF conversion method to synthesize heterojunction‐based electrodes, but also broadens the horizon for designing advanced electrode materials for SCs.

Lake sediment, as a solid waste, can be disposed harmlessly through combustion. The ash melting temperature is an important factor affecting boiler coking and restricting its safe and stable operation. Determining the ash melting temperature after mixing lake sediment with coal is of great significance for achieving the resource utilization of lake sediment. This paper takes the Yunnan Xiaolongtan lignite and the Dianchi Lake sediment as the research objects. The Dianchi Lake sediment is a high moisture solid waste with high nitrogen content and rich heavy metal elements. The Yunnan Dianchi Lake sediment has a large residual stock, mainly generated by a large amount of sediment entering the Dianchi Lake with river water and rainwater. It is the main source of pollution in the Dianchi Lake. However, the Xiaolongtan lignite has problems such as high production, poor coal quality, and high transportation costs, which seriously affect its utilization rate, if the local conditions can be adapted and the problems of high production, difficult treatment, and insufficient efficiency of local sediment can be solved through mixed combustion, in addition to achieving an efficient utilization of lignite, it can also alleviate the local disposal pressure. However, there is currently little research on the blending of lignite with sediment. Through experiments on the ash melting characteristics, the deformation, softening, hemisphere, and flow temperature of ash at a 5%−15% mixing ratio were determined, and the variation law of ash melting point was derived. The mineral composition, oxide, and elemental composition were obtained through XRD, XRF, and SEM-EDS detection and analysis. The crystal structure and mineral composition in the ash were confirmed, and a ternary phase diagram was constructed for thermochemical calculations. The results show that when 5% sediment is mixed, the melting temperature of the ash decreases sharply, and then the downward trend tends to be gentle. The acid-base ratio and silicon aluminum ratio are positively correlated with the downward trend. The oxides of Fe+2, Fe+3, and Ca+2 play a main role in reducing the melting point of the ash, and these oxides are prone to react with refractory minerals to form fluxing minerals such as anorthite and calcium iron pyroxene. During the low temperature stage, Ca oxides mainly promote melting, while during the high temperature stage, Fe oxides act.

Ground observations are often considered as the most reliable and precise source of precipitation data. However, long-term precipitation data from ground observations are lacking in many parts of the world. Gridded precipitation products (GPPs) therefore have emerged as crucial alternatives to ground observations, but it is essential to assess their capability to accurately replicate precipitation patterns. This study aims to evaluate the performance of five GPPs, NASA POWER, TerraClimate, Climate Hazards Group Infrared Precipitation with Climate Data (CHIRPS), GPCC, and Climate Research Unit (CRU), in capturing precipitation and drought patterns from 1981 to 2021 in Yobe, Nigeria. The results indicate that GPCC had good performance at both monthly and annual scales, with high correlation coefficients and low error values. However, it tends to underestimate precipitation amounts in certain areas. Other products also exhibit satisfactory performance with moderate correlations with ground observations. Drought analysis indicates that GPCC outperforms other products in standardised precipitation index-6 calculations, while NASA POWER demonstrates inconsistencies with ground observations, particularly during the early 1980s and mid-2000s. In conclusion, GPCC is the most preferable GPP for precipitation and drought analysis in the Yobe State in Nigeria. Catenary optics enables metasurfaces with higher efficiency and wider bandwidth, and is highly anticipated in the imaging system, super-resolution lithography, and broadband absorbers. However, the periodic boundary approximation without considering aperiodic electromagnetic crosstalk poses challenges for catenary optical devices to reach their performance limits. Here, perfect control of both local geometric and propagation phases is realized through field-driven optimization, in which the field distribution is calculated under real boundary conditions. Different from other optimization methods requiring a mass of iterations, the proposed design method requires less than ten iterations to get the efficiency close to the optimal value. Based on the library of shape-optimized catenary structures, centimeter-scale devices can be designed in ten seconds, with the performance improved by ~15%. Furthermore, this method has the ability to extend catenary-like continuous structures to arbitrary polarization, including both linear and elliptical polarizations, which is difficult to achieve with traditional design methods. It provides a way for the development of catenary optics and serves as a potent tool for constructing high-performance optical devices.

Abstract Background Ulnar impingement syndrome is a prevalent source of ulnar carpal pain; however, there is ongoing debate regarding the specific location of shortening, the method of osteotomy, the extent of shortening, and the resulting biomechanical alterations. Method To investigate the biomechanical changes in the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) resulting from different osteotomy methods, a cadaveric specimen was dissected, and the presence of a stable DRUJ structure was confirmed. Subsequently, three-dimensional data of the specimen were obtained using a CT scan, and finite element analysis was conducted after additional processing. Results The DRUJ stress did not change significantly at the metaphyseal osteotomy of 2–3 mm but increased significantly when the osteotomy length reached 5 mm. When the osteotomy was performed at the diaphysis, the DRUJ stress increased with the osteotomy length, and the increase was greater than that of metaphyseal osteotomy. Stress on the DRUJ significantly increases when the position is changed to pronation dorsi-extension. Similarly, the increase in stress in diaphyseal osteotomy was greater than that in metaphyseal osteotomy. When the model was subjected to a longitudinal load of 100 N, neither osteotomy showed a significant change in DRUJ stress at the neutral position. However, the 100 N load significantly increased stress on the DRUJ when the position was changed to pronation dorsi-extension, and the diaphyseal osteotomy significantly increased stress on the DRUJ. Conclusions For patients with distal oblique bundle, metaphyseal osteotomy result in a lower increase in intra-articular pressure in the DRUJ compared to diaphyseal osteotomy. However, it is crucial to note that regardless of the specific type of osteotomy employed, it is advisable to avoid a shortening length exceeding 5 mm.

Abstract Background The study aims to analyze the epidemiology of preservation fluid (PF) contamination and investigate the impact of PF contamination and possible donor-derived infections(p-DDI) on early postoperative prognosis in kidney transplant (KT) recipients. Methods A total of 256 PF samples were collected for microbiological evaluation from all KT recipients who received deceased donor donations in our hospital from June 2018 to August 2022. Data on the baseline and clinical characteristics of these PF corresponding to recipients and donors were extracted from the electronic medical record. It mainly included the early postoperative complications and prognosis of KT recipients. Results From June 2018 to August 2022, 597 kidney transplants were performed in our center, with 260 recipients receiving kidney transplantation from donation after citizens’ death. A total of 256 samples of PF were collected, of which 64.5% (165/256) were culture positive, and 24.6% (63/165) of the culture-positive PF were polymicrobial contamination. A total of 238 strains were isolated, of which coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) had the highest proportion of 34.0% (81/238), followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae with 20.6% (49/238) and Escherichia coli with 8.8% (21/238). Abstract Background The health and size of the testes are crucial for boar fertility. Testicular development is tightly regulated by epigenetics. N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification is a prevalent internal modification on mRNA and plays an important role in development. The mRNA m6A methylation in boar testicular development still needs to be investigated. Results Using the MeRIP-seq technique, we identify and profile m6A modification in boar testes between piglets and adults. The results showed 7783 distinct m6A peaks in piglets and 6590 distinct m6A peaks in adults, with 2,471 peaks shared between the two groups. Enrichment of GO and KEGG analysis reveal dynamic m6A methylation in various biological processes and signalling pathways. Meanwhile, we conjointly analyzed differentially methylated and expressed genes in boar testes before and after sexual maturity, and reproductive related genes (TLE4, TSSK3, TSSK6, C11ORF94, PATZ1, PHLPP1 and PAQR7) were identified. Functional enrichment analysis showed that differential genes are associated with important biological functions, including regulation of growth and development, regulation of metabolic processes and protein catabolic processes. Conclusion The results demonstrate that m6A methylation, differential expression and the related signalling pathways are crucial for boar testicular development. These results suggest a role for m6A modification in boar testicular development and provided a resource for future studies on m6A function in boar testicular development.

Objective Hip fracture and falls are significant health concerns. Handgrip strength (HGS) is closely associated with overall muscle strength and physical health. However, the longitudinal relationship between HGS and the risk of hip fractures and falls remains unclear, particularly regarding gender differences. This longitudinal study aimed to investigate the association between HGS and the risk of hip fracture and falls in individuals aged 45 years and above, considering gender‐specific differences over a 4‐year period. Methods This study included 10,092 participants (4471 men and 5621 women) aged 45 years and above from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS). Incidents of hip fractures and falls were recorded during a 4‐year follow‐up, along with various demographic and clinical factors. Participants were categorized into five groups based on their HGS quintiles. Logistic regression models were employed to estimate adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) to assess the relationship between HGS and hip fracture/fall risk. Results During the 4‐year follow‐up period, 223 cases of hip fracture (2.2%) and 1831 cases of falls (18.1%) were documented. Wide-angle imaging and spectral detection play vital roles in tasks such as target tracking, object classification, and anti-camouflage. However, limited by their intrinsically different architectures, as determined by frequency dispersion requirements, their simultaneous implementation in a shared-aperture system is difficult. Here, we propose a novel concept to realize reconfigurable dual-mode detection based on electrical-control tunable metasurfaces. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, the simultaneous implementation of wide-angle imaging and polarization-spectral detection in a miniature shared-aperture meta-optical system is realized for the first time via the electrical control of cascaded catenary-like metasurfaces. The proposed system supports the imaging (spectral) resolution of approximately 27.8 line-pairs per millimeter (lp·mm−1; ∼80 nm) for an imaging (spectral) mode from 8 to 14 μm. This system also bears a large field of view of about 70°, enabling multi-target recognition in both modes. This work may promote the miniaturization of multifunctional optical systems, including spectrometers and polarization imagers, and illustrates the potential industrial applications of meta-optics in biomedicine, security, space exploration, and more.

Abstract Background Heterosis breeding is one of the most important breeding methods for chrysanthemum. To date, the genetic mechanisms of heterosis for waterlogging tolerance in chrysanthemum are still unclear. This study aims to analyze the expression profiles and potential heterosis-related genes of two hybrid lines and their parents with extreme differences in waterlogging tolerance under control and waterlogging stress conditions by RNA-seq. Results A population of 140 F1 progeny derived from Chrysanthemum indicum (Nanchang) (waterlogging-tolerant) and Chrysanthemum indicum (Nanjing) (waterlogging-sensitive) was used to characterize the extent of genetic variation in terms of seven waterlogging tolerance-related traits across two years. Lines 98 and 95, respectively displaying positive and negative overdominance heterosis for the waterlogging tolerance traits together with their parents under control and waterlogging stress conditions, were used for RNA-seq. In consequence, the maximal number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) occurred in line 98. Gene ontology (GO) enrichment analysis revealed multiple stress-related biological processes for the common up-regulated genes. Line 98 had a significant increase in non-additive genes under waterlogging stress, with transgressive up-regulation and paternal-expression dominant patterns being the major gene expression profiles. Further, GO analysis identified 55 and 95 transgressive up-regulation genes that overlapped with the up-regulated genes shared by two parents in terms of responses to stress and stimulus, respectively. 6,640 genes in total displaying maternal-expression dominance patterns were observed in line 95. In addition, 16 key candidate genes, including SAP12, DOX1, and ERF017 which might be of significant importance for the formation of waterlogging tolerance heterosis in line 98, were highlighted. Conclusion The current study provides a comprehensive overview of the root transcriptomes among F1 hybrids and their parents under waterlogging stress. These findings lay the foundation for further studies on molecular mechanisms underlying chrysanthemum heterosis on waterlogging tolerance.

The regulation of DC line power flow and optimization of system operational characteristics after contingency is crucial for the stable and economic operation of the MTDC grid. In this paper, a novel adaptive voltage reference based multi-objective optimal control method is proposed for proper line power flow control, as well as voltage deviation minimization and economic operation of the MTDC system. A hierarchical control method based on the M-MOMPA algorithm is proposed for the development of dispatch solutions for the MTDC system connected to multiple AC systems and large-scale wind farms. A pre-evaluation method is proposed to choose appropriate control variables and accelerate the convergence of optimization algorithms. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated through comparisons with several algorithms. The dynamic simulations of a five-terminal MTDC grid are carried out using MATLAB/Simulink and RTLAB to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method under various types of disturbance and contingency.

Abstract Rechargeable neutral aqueous zinc−air batteries (ZABs) are a promising type of energy storage device with longer operating life and less corrosiveness compared with conventional alkaline ZABs. However, the neutral ZABs normally possess poor oxygen evolution reactions (OERs) and oxygen reduction reactions performance, resulting in a large charge–discharge voltage gap and low round‐trip efficiency. Herein, we demonstrate a sunlight‐assisted strategy for achieving an ultralow voltage gap of 0.05 V in neutral ZABs by using the FeOOH‐decorated BiVO4 (Fe‐BiVO4) as an oxygen catalyst. Under sunlight, the electrons move from the valence band (VB) of Fe‐BiVO4 to the conduction band producing holes in VB to promote the OER process and hence reduce the overpotential. Meanwhile, the photopotential generated by the Fe‐BiVO4 compensates a part of the charging potential of neutral ZABs. Accordingly, the energy loss of the battery could be compensated via solar energy, leading to a record‐low gap of 0.05 V between the charge and discharge voltage with a high round‐trip efficiency of 94%. This work offers a simple but efficient pathway for solar‐energy utilization in storage devices, further guiding the design of high energy efficiency of neutral aqueous ZABs.

The advancements in intelligent action recognition can be instrumental in developing autonomous robotic systems capable of analyzing complex human activities in real-time, contributing to the growing field of robotics that operates in dynamic environments. The precise recognition of basketball players' actions using artificial intelligence technology can provide valuable assistance and guidance to athletes, coaches, and analysts, and can help referees make fairer decisions during games. However, unlike action recognition in simpler scenarios, the background in basketball is similar and complex, the differences between various actions are subtle, and lighting conditions are inconsistent, making action recognition in basketball a challenging task. To address this problem, an Adaptive Context-Aware Network (ACA-Net) for basketball player action recognition is proposed in this paper. It contains a Long Short-term Adaptive (LSTA) module and a Triplet Spatial-Channel Interaction (TSCI) module to extract effective features at the temporal, spatial, and channel levels. The LSTA module adaptively learns global and local temporal features of the video. The TSCI module enhances the feature representation by learning the interaction features between space and channels. We conducted extensive experiments on the popular basketball action recognition datasets SpaceJam and Basketball-51. The results show that ACA-Net outperforms the current mainstream methods, achieving 89.26% and 92.05% in terms of classification accuracy on the two datasets, respectively. ACA-Net's adaptable architecture also holds potential for real-world applications in autonomous robotics, where accurate recognition of complex human actions in unstructured environments is crucial for tasks such as automated game analysis, player performance evaluation, and enhanced interactive broadcasting experiences.

Objectives: Plasma bile acid (BA) has been widely studied as pathophysiological factors in chronic liver disease. But the changes of plasma BA level in lean metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) remains unclear. Here, we clarified the BA metabolic characteristics of lean MAFLD and explored its significance and mechanism as a marker. Methods: We employed ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry based on BA metabonomics to characterize circulating bile acid in lean MAFLD patients. Explore its significance as serum biomarkers by further cluster analysis, functional enrichment analysis, and serum concentration change analysis of differential BAs. Evaluation of diagnostic value of differential BAs by ROC analysis. Results: A total of 65 BAs were detected and 17 BAs were identified which showed different expression in the lean-MAFLD group compared with the normal group. Functional annotation and enrichment analysis of KEGG and HMDB showed that differential BAs were mainly related to bile acid biosynthesis, bile secretion, cholesterol metabolism, and familial hypercholangitis, involving diseases including but not limited to cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, chronic active hepatitis, colorectal cancer, acute liver failure, and portal vein obstruction. ROC analysis displayed that the 6 BA metabolites (GCDCA-3S, GUDCA-3S, CDCA-3S, NCA, TCDCA, and HDCA) exhibited well differential diagnostic ability in discriminating between lean MAFLD patients and normal individuals with an area under the curve (AUC) ⩾0.85. Conclusions: We delineated the characteristics of BA level in patients with lean MAFLD, and identified 6 potential plasma BA biomarkers of lean MAFLD.

Background: Ovarian cancer, a fatal gynecological malignancy, is primarily managed through surgery and chemotherapy. However, a significant challenge arises as patients frequently experience relapse due to chemotherapy resistance. This study delves into the complex functions and underlying mechanisms of macrophages in chemotherapy resistance in ovarian cancer. Method: The single-cell transcriptome sequencing data of ovarian cancer with or without chemotherapy were analyzed. Then, corresponding cell types were identified, and macrophages were extracted from all cells. Following the standardized single-cell analysis using the Seurat package, 15 distinct macrophage clusters were found and differentially expressed genes among them were analyzed. Moreover, their association with chemotherapy resistance was explored through cell proportions and gene expression. Result: In the single-cell transcriptomic analysis of ovarian cancer tissues before and after chemotherapy, the cellular proportion of CXCL5+ macrophages, THBS1+ macrophages, and MMP9+ macrophages were significantly increased following chemotherapy. Further investigation revealed that these macrophage subpopulations upregulated the expression of multiple pro-tumorigenic angiogenic or invasive factors, in addition to CXCL5, THBS1, and MMP9, including CTSL, CXCL1, and CCL18. Finally, pathway enrichment analysis revealed the significant activation of signaling pathways, such as NOD-like receptor, MAPK, and TNF in these macrophage subpopulations, which provides direction for studying the mechanism of these subpopulations. Conclusion: CXCL5+, THBS1+, and MMP9+ macrophage subpopulations exhibit an increased cellular prevalence post-chemotherapy and pro-tumorigenic molecular expression profiles, suggesting a close association with chemoresistance in ovarian cancer. These findings contribute to our understanding of the roles and mechanisms of macrophages in ovarian cancer chemoresistance, providing a theoretical basis and direction for the development of therapies targeting macrophages in overcoming ovarian cancer chemoresistance.

SINA (Seven in absentia) E3 ligases are critical components of the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS). They are responsible for ubiquitination and are involved in numerous cellular processes. The functional mechanisms of SINAs have been extensively studied in a few angiosperms. However, our understanding of the origin and evolution of plant SINA genes remain limited. Here we performed a large-scale comprehensive analysis of SINA proteins from various plant lineages. The plant SINA family genes likely originated from a common ancestral gene prior to the divergence of bryophyte and gave rise to two clades. Within clade I, subsequent parallel innovations in lycophytes and ferns resulted in the formation of two branches. All SINA proteins contain an N-terminal cysteine-rich really interesting new gene (RING) domain for ubiquitination, two zinc-finger motifs, and a C-terminal domain required for substrate-binding and dimerization. The SINA genes gains and losses occurred in angiosperms, resulting in an increase in the number of gene copies in eudicots and monocots. The Gossypium genus SINAs showed a tendency for expansion via whole-genome duplication and polyploidy. Finally, global expression patterns revealed the functional diversification of SINA genes in developmental stage and response to hormones and abiotic stresses in Arabidopsis and rice. These findings provide an insight into the evolution and diversification of SINA E3 ligases in plants and enhance our understanding of the role they play in determining substrate specificity and environment stress adaptations in angiosperms.

BackgroundThere is increasing focus on HIV-1 CRF55_01B in China. However, there is limited information regarding the dissemination of CRF55_01B across different regions and populations in Guangxi. This study was performed to elucidate the evolutionary history of the introduction and dissemination of CRF55_01B in Guangxi.MethodsMolecular network and phylogenetic analyses were used to investigate the transmission characteristics of CRF55_01B in China. The analyses particularly focused on the cross-provincial spatial and temporal transmission patterns between Guangdong Province and Guangxi, as well as the transmission dynamics among different regions and populations within Guangxi.ResultsIn total, 2226 partial pol sequences of CRF55_01B strains sampled from 2007 to 2022 were collected, including 1895 (85.09%) sequences from Guangdong, 199 (8.94%) sequences from Guangxi, and 172 (7.59%) sequences from other provinces of China. Most people living with HIV in Guangxi were infected with HIV-1 through heterosexuals (52.76%). Among these, 19.10% had a history of commercial heterosexual contact (CHC) and 15.58% had a history of non-marital non-commercial heterosexual contact (NMNCHC). Overall, 1418 sequences were identified in the molecular network. Notably, the sequences from Guangdong Province were most closely linked to those from Guangxi. Phylogenetic analysis showed that CRF55_01B was first introduced from Shenzhen City to Nanning City around 2007. Subsequently, CRF55_01B established local transmission within Guangxi, with Nanning City serving as the transmission center from 2008 to 2017. After 2017, the CRF55_01B strain spread to other regions of Guangxi. Men who have sex with men (MSM) and men with a history of CHC have played a significant role in the transmission of CRF55_01B among different populations in Guangxi.ConclusionsThis study provides evidence on the transmission trajectory of CRF55_01B among different regions and populations in Guangxi. Given the bridging role of men with a history of CHC in the dissemination of CRF55_01B from MSM to the general population, it is imperative to enhance surveillance among key populations to mitigate the secondary transmission of HIV-1.

Background Vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation is involved in many types of arterial diseases, including neointima hyperplasia, in which Ca2+ has been recognized as a key player. However, the physiological role of Ca2+ release via inositol 1,4,5‐trisphosphate receptors (IP3Rs) from endoplasmic reticulum in regulating VSMC proliferation has not been well determined. Methods and Results Both in vitro cell culture models and in vivo mouse models were generated to investigate the role of IP3Rs in regulating VSMC proliferation. Expression of all 3 IP3R subtypes was increased in cultured VSMCs upon platelet‐derived growth factor‐BB and FBS stimulation as well as in the left carotid artery undergoing intimal thickening after vascular occlusion. Genetic ablation of all 3 IP3R subtypes abolished endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ release in cultured VSMCs, significantly reduced cell proliferation induced by platelet‐derived growth factor‐BB and FBS stimulation, and also decreased cell migration of VSMCs. Furthermore, smooth muscle–specific deletion of all IP3R subtypes in adult mice dramatically attenuated neointima formation induced by left carotid artery ligation, accompanied by significant decreases in cell proliferation and matrix metalloproteinase‐9 expression in injured vessels. Mechanistically, IP3R‐mediated Ca2+ release may activate cAMP response element–binding protein, a key player in controlling VSMC proliferation, via Ca2+/calmodulin‐dependent protein kinase II and Akt. Loss of IP3Rs suppressed cAMP response element–binding protein phosphorylation at Ser133 in both cultured VSMCs and injured vessels, whereas application of Ca2+ permeable ionophore, ionomycin, can reverse cAMP response element–binding protein phosphorylation in IP3R triple knockout VSMCs. Conclusions Our results demonstrated an essential role of IP3R‐mediated Ca2+ release from endoplasmic reticulum in regulating cAMP response element–binding protein activation, VSMC proliferation, and neointima formation in mouse arteries.

In current engineering, the transition process of pump turbines from pump to turbine mode mainly includes the shutdown process of pump operating and the startup process of turbine operating, and the switching of working conditions mostly depends on the opening and closing of the ball valve. While, this article focuses on the transitional process of pump turbine from pump to turbine condition without relying on ball valve, which will significantly reduce the response time of the unit and enable quick switching of operating conditions in emergency situations. In this study, the torque balance equation is employed to analyze the transition process of the entire flow system from pump to turbine operation. Additionally, the entropy production theory is utilized to investigate the correlation between pressure, flow state, and energy loss in the pump-turbine, shedding light on the changes in external characteristics through the evolution of internal characteristics. Furthermore, the transition process from pump mode to turbine mode is segmented into five stages based on the variations in the guide vanes (GV). The findings reveal that the rotation of GV triggers sharp fluctuations in static pressure, torque, and axial force. During stage four, the initiation of all three GV positions results in an increase in flow rate and torque, accompanied by a decrease in axial force. In stage two, the closure of GV leads to a decrease in pressure within the spiral casing (SC) and stay vanes (SV) domains, coupled with an increase in pressure in the bladeless zone, runner, and draft tube domains. Simultaneously, the pressure difference between both sides of the runner decreases significantly, directly causing a drop in torque and axial force. In stage three, GV closure interrupts the flow in the pump-turbine, resulting in significant backflow in the SC, SV, and runner domains, alongside high-speed circulation in the bladeless area. Moreover, the location of the high entropy production rate (EPR) value within the unit aligns with the reflux zone, indicating considerable energy loss attributable to reflux. The above research results will provide reference for the rapid switching of operating conditions of pump turbines in emergency situations.

Utilizing satellite remote sensing for the assessment and temporal-spatial analysis of Chromophoric Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM) is vital for overseeing lake water health and devising management plans. This study focused on the saline, turbid and arid Ebinur Lake, located in China’s northwestern region. The Random Forest (RF) and eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) model algorithms were compared to select the one with the highest accuracy. It combined Sentinel-2 remote sensing data and in situ measurement data for the quantitative inversion of CDOM. Monthly CDOM distribution maps were generated with a 10 m resolution for the non-frozen months of May to October from 2018 to 2022, followed by a comprehensive analysis of temporal trends. The primary conclusions are: (1) The XGBoost model yielded highly accurate CDOM estimates, with a training set coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.94, a Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 0.06 mg/L, Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 6.05 %, Relative Percent Difference (RPD) of 4.07; the test set demonstrated an R2 of 0.41 with an RMSE of 0.22 mg/L, MAPE of 22.74 %, RPD of 1.35; (2) Throughout the study period, the main lake portion displayed variable CDOM spatial patterns and trends. The inversion indicated higher CDOM concentrations in the central part than nearshore areas and decreasing CDOM in tandem with seasonable water-surface shrinkage. The findings offer hints for an accurate evaluation of water color parameters of Ebinur Lake and practical references for monitoring arid-region lake water quality via remote sensing.

Background With the increasing application of guided endodontics to treat complex root canal treatment, the entire process of root canal treatment has become more precise, reducing damage to tooth structure and improving success rates. However, due to the limitations of the operating space, the use of guided endodontic templates in posterior root canal treatment is less common. This study aims to compare the accuracy and reliability of selective laser melting (SLM) and traditional stereolithography etching (SLA) guided endodontic templates for posterior root canals, providing better treatment strategies for posterior root canal treatment. Methods The teeth were randomly assigned to either SLM or SLA group. Preoperative cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and a three-dimensional (3D) scanner were used to establish the 3D root canal system and the accurate occlusal models of the teeth. The virtual access to the canal access was designed using Mimics 19.0 and 3-Matic 11.0. The endodontic access was performed based on either SLM or SLA templates. The accuracy of endodontic preparation was measured in three-dimensions by calculating deviations from planned accesses. The template height and tooth substance loss rates in each group were measured. Results SLM-guided templates have a low average deviation at the entry point and apical portion of the bur of total posterior teeth (including premolars and molars) and individual molars (P < 0.05). Moreover, there was a significant difference in angular deviations and height of template in total posterior teeth and individual molars (P < 0.05). The mean substance loss rate of the SLA group was slightly greater than that of the SLM group, but the difference was not statistically (P > 0.05). Conclusions SLM-guided endodontics provides a more predictable and precise location of root canal orifice for the treatment of posterior teeth.

Abstract Background and purpose Effective evaluation of rotator cuff tear residual tendon quality is the key to surgical repair. However, until now, the evaluation of rotator cuff tissue by ultrasonic shear wave elasticity (SWE) has been controversial. This prospective study analyzed the association between preoperative SWE and arthroscopic residual tendon quality scores. Methods The shear wave velocity (SWV) of the deltoid muscle, the supraspinatus tendon, and the supraspinatus muscle were measured in full-thickness rotator cuff tear patients. Tendon quality was scored according to tear size, tendon margin, tendon thickness, and footprint coverage during arthroscopy. The arthroscopic scores were used as the gold standard, and the SWV ratio of tendon and muscle (supraspinatus tendon/deltoid and supraspinatus muscle/deltoid) were calculated and correlated with the arthroscopic scores. Result Eighty-nine patients (129 shoulders) were enrolled, including 89 operation shoulders and 40 control shoulders. In the group of operation shoulders, both the SWV ratios of tendon (SWV-RT) and the SWV ratio of muscle (SWV-RM) were negatively correlated with arthroscopic scores (The correlation coefficient (R) ranged from -0.722 to -0.884 and -0.569 to -0.689). Abstract Background HIV-1 CRF65_cpx strain carries drug-resistant mutations, which raises concerns about its potential for causing virologic failure. The CRF65_cpx ranks as the fourth most prevalent on Hainan Island, China. However, the origin and molecular epidemiology of CRF65_cpx strains in this area remain unclear. This study aims to estimate the spatial origins and dissemination patterns of HIV-1 CRF65_cpx in this specific region. Methods Between 2018 and 2021, a total of 58 pol sequences of the CRF65_cpx were collected from HIV-positive patients on Hainan Island. The available CRF65_cpx pol sequences from public databases were compiled. The HIV-TRACE tool was used to construct transmission networks. The evolutionary history of the introduction and dissemination of HIV-1 CRF65_cpx on Hainan Island were analyzed using phylogenetic analysis and the Bayesian coalescent-based approach. Results Among the 58 participants, 89.66% were men who have sex with men (MSM). The median age was 25 years, and 43.10% of the individuals had a college degree or above. The results indicated that 39 (67.24%) sequences were interconnected within a single transmission network. A consistent expansion was evident from 2019 to 2021, with an incremental annual addition of four sequences into the networks. Phylodynamic analyses showed that the CRF65_cpx on Hainan Island originated from Beijing (Bayes factor, BF = 17.4), with transmission among MSM on Hainan Island in 2013.2 (95%HPD: 2012.4, 2019.5), subsequently leading to an outbreak. Haikou was the local center of the CRF65_cpx epidemic. This strain propagated from Haikou to other locations, including Sanya (BF > 1000), Danzhou (BF = 299.3), Chengmai (BF = 27.0) and Tunchang (BF = 16.3). The analyses of the viral migration patterns between age subgroups and risk subgroups revealed that the viral migration directions were from "25–40 years old" to "17–24 years old" (BF = 14.6) and to "over 40 years old" (BF = 17.6), and from MSM to heterosexuals (BF > 1000) on Hainan Island. Conclusion Our analyses elucidate the transmission dynamics of CRF65_cpx strain on Hainan Island. Haikou is identified as the potential hotspot for CRF65_cpx transmission, with middle-aged MSM identified as the key population. These findings suggest that targeted interventions in hotspots and key populations may be more effective in controlling the HIV epidemic.

Most researches associated with target encircling control are focused on moving along a circular orbit under an ideal environment free from external disturbances. However, elliptical encirclement with a time-varying observation radius, may permit a more flexible and high-efficacy enclosing solution, whilst the non-orthogonal property between axial and tangential speed components, non-ignorable environmental perturbations, and strict assignment requirements empower elliptical encircling control to be more challenging, and the relevant investigations are still open. Following this line, an appointed-time elliptical encircling control rule capable of reinforcing circumnavigation performances is developed to enable Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to move along a specified elliptical path within a predetermined reaching time. The remarkable merits of the designed strategy are that the relative distance controlling error can be guaranteed to evolve within specified regions with a designer-specified convergence behavior. Meanwhile, wind perturbations can be online counteracted based on an unknown system dynamics estimator (USDE) with only one regulating parameter and high computational efficiency. Lyapunov tool demonstrates that all involved error variables are ultimately limited, and simulations are implemented to confirm the usability of the suggested control algorithm.

Direct aging of water-quenched metastable β-titanium alloys usually follows the sequence: rapid growth of ωiso and then slow transformation into α. To inhibit ωiso growth and promote α nucleation, 6% pre-deformation was introduced in Ti-10V-6Cu alloy before 500°C/60s aging. An ultrafast α-formation and a few α-free kink-bands are observed, indicating the alteration of the precipitation sequence. For α-nucleation without ωiso as the sites, it shows that O' nanodomains induced by stress accumulation around slip bands mediate the ultrafast nucleation of hcp-α structure, while dislocation pipe diffusion accelerates the necessary phase separation. This provides new insights into regulating precipitation kinetics of age-hardenable β-titanium alloys.

A novel approach for detecting small targets of wind turbine blade surface damage, particularly minute defects within intricate scenes depicted in low-resolution images, is introduced through the utilization of an enhanced YOLO-v7 algorithm. The method incorporates the Ghost-Shuffle Convolution (GSConv) to improve detection accuracy without compromising inference speed, tailored to the specific characteristics of wind turbine blade defects. Furthermore, the integration of the Simple Attention Mechanism (SimAM) within the ELAN structure aims to enhance the identification of smaller wind turbine blades. To expedite model convergence, the Edge Intersection over Union (EIoU) is adopted as the edge loss function. Experimental findings demonstrate that the refined algorithm attains an average accuracy of 78.7%, surpassing the original YOLO-v7 algorithm by 4.2%. Moreover, it achieves a recognition speed of 105.1 frames per second, facilitating more effective detection of wind turbine blade defects while meeting real-time target detection requisites.

Abstract Objective The present study was conducted with an attempt to explore the overall efficacy of large-channel spinal endoscopy technology in elderly patients with segmental lumbar spinal stenosis. Methods We included a total of 68 elderly patients with segmental lumbar spinal stenosis in our hospital from February 2021 to March 2023. The participants were randomly and equally distributed into the study group and the control group using a random number table method. The control group received the open lumbar decompression surgery, and the study group received the lumbar decompression under large-channel spinal endoscopy technology. We compared the surgical conditions of the two groups, including pain level, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score, and Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score before surgery, 1 week after surgery, 3 months after surgery, and 1 year after surgery. In addition, we compared the efficacy and adverse reactions 1 year after surgery between the two groups. Results Our findings revealed that the operation time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative drainage volume, and hospital stay in the study group were significantly lower than those in the control group (p 0.05), and the pain intensity of the study group was significantly lower than that of the control group at 1 week, 3 months, and 1 year after surgery (p 0.05), while they were significantly lower in the study group than those in the control group at 1 week, 3 months, and 1 year after surgery (p 0.05), whereas the efficacy was remarkably improved in the study group comparing to the control group at 1 week, 3 months, and 1 year after surgery (p

Active power sharing and voltage regulation are two of the major control challenges in the operation of the voltage source converter based multi-terminal high-voltage DC (VSC-MTDC) system when integrating large-scale offshore wind farms (OWFs). This paper proposes two novel adaptive voltage reference based droop control methods to regulate pilot DC voltage and share the power burden autonomously. The proposed Method I utilizes DC grid lossy model with the local voltage droop control strategy, while the proposed Method II adopts a modified pilot voltage droop control (MPVDC) to avoid the large errors caused by the DC grid lossless model. Dynamic simulations of a five-terminal MTDC grid are carried out using MATLAB/Simulink SimPowerSystems /Specialized Technology to verify the proposed autonomous control methods under various types of disturbance and contingency. In addition, comparative study is implemented to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed methods.
