7050 aluminium alloy is widely used in aerospace industry due to its excellent mechanical properties. 7050 aluminium alloy belongs to Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloy. Due to the formation of cracks in selective laser melting (SLM) forming of Al–Zn–Mg–Cu alloys, 7050 aluminium alloy is difficult to be applied to forming and manufacturing in this technological field. In order to solve this critical problem, in this paper, titanium dioxide (TiO2) powder was mixed with 7050 aluminium alloy using ball milling method to achieve the effect of eliminating cracks. The cracks in the specimens completely disappeared when the TiO2 additions were 1.5 wt% and 2 wt%. With the addition of TiO2, the grains gradually changed from coarse columnar crystals to fine equiaxed crystals. Combined with the temperature field simulation, the grain refinement and crack elimination mechanism of TiO2 in SLM forming were analysed. The grain refinement is attributed to the formation of Al3Ti. The crack elimination was attributed to the reduction of the intergranular solid-liquid channel length. The maximum values of tensile strength and elongation of 7050 aluminium alloy formed by SLM are achieved at 2 wt% of TiO2. The values are 389 MPa and 8.8 %. The better mechanical properties were attributed to the synergistic effect of crack elimination, Hall-Petch, and Orowan strengthening. This study provides experimental guidance for the preparation of crack-free 7050 aluminium alloy.

Abstract Background Olanzapine (OLZ) reverses chronic stress-induced anxiety. Chronic stress promotes cancer development via abnormal neuro-endocrine activation. However, how intervention of brain-body interaction reverses chronic stress-induced tumorigenesis remains elusive. Methods Kras LSL−G12D/WT lung cancer model and LLC1 syngeneic tumor model were used to study the effect of OLZ on cancer stemness and anxiety-like behaviors. Cancer stemness was evaluated by qPCR, western-blotting, immunohistology staining and flow-cytometry analysis of stemness markers, and cancer stem-like function was assessed by serial dilution tumorigenesis in mice and extreme limiting dilution analysis in primary tumor cells. Anxiety-like behaviors in mice were detected by elevated plus maze and open field test. Depression-like behaviors in mice were detected by tail suspension test. Anxiety and depression states in human were assessed by Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Chemo-sensitivity of lung cancer was assessed by in vivo syngeneic tumor model and in vitro CCK-8 assay in lung cancer cell lines. Results In this study, we found that OLZ reversed chronic stress-enhanced lung tumorigenesis in both Kras LSL−G12D/WT lung cancer model and LLC1 syngeneic tumor model. OLZ relieved anxiety and depression-like behaviors by suppressing neuro-activity in the mPFC and reducing norepinephrine (NE) releasing under chronic stress. NE activated ADRB2-cAMP-PKA-CREB pathway to promote CLOCK transcription, leading to cancer stem-like traits. As such, CLOCK-deficiency or OLZ reverses NE/chronic stress-induced gemcitabine (GEM) resistance in lung cancer. Of note, tumoral CLOCK expression is positively associated with stress status, serum NE level and poor prognosis in lung cancer patients. Conclusion We identify a new mechanism by which OLZ ameliorates chronic stress-enhanced tumorigenesis and chemoresistance. OLZ suppresses mPFC-NE-CLOCK axis to reverse chronic stress-induced anxiety-like behaviors and lung cancer stemness. Decreased NE-releasing prevents activation of ADRB2-cAMP-PKA-CREB pathway to inhibit CLOCK transcription, thus reversing lung cancer stem-like traits and chemoresistance under chronic stress.

Abstract Background Glioma is considered the most common primary malignant tumor of the central nervous system. Although traditional treatments have not achieved satisfactory outcomes, recently, targeted therapies for glioma have shown promising efficacy. However, due to the single-target nature of targeted therapy, traditional targeted therapies are ineffective; thus, novel therapeutic targets are urgently needed. Methods The gene expression data for glioma patients were derived from the GEO (GSE4290, GSE50161), TCGA and CGGA databases. Next, the upregulated genes obtained from the above databases were cross-analyzed, finally, 10 overlapping genes (BIRC5, FOXM1, EZH2, CDK1, KIF11, KIF4A, NDC80, PBK, RRM2, and TOP2A) were ultimately screened and only KIF4A expression has the strongest correlation with clinical characteristics in glioma patients. Futher, the TCGA and CGGA database were utilized to explore the correlation of KIF4A expression with glioma prognosis. Then, qRT-PCR and Western blot was used to detect the KIF4A mRNA and protein expression level in glioma cells, respectively. And WZ-3146, the small molecule inhibitor targeting KIF4A, were screened by Cmap analysis. Subsequently, the effect of KIF4A knockdown or WZ-3146 treatment on glioma was measured by the MTT, EdU, Colony formation assay and Transwell assay. Ultimately, GSEA enrichment analysis was performed to find that the apoptotic pathway could be regulated by KIF4A in glioma, in addition, the effect of WZ-3146 on glioma apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry and Western blot. Results In the present study, we confirmed that KIF4A is abnormally overexpressed in glioma. In addition, KIF4A overexpression is a key indicator of glioma prognosis; moreover, suppressing KIF4A expression can inhibit glioma progression. We also discovered that WZ-3146, a small molecule inhibitor of KIF4A, can induce apoptosis in glioma cells and exhibit antiglioma effects. Conclusion In conclusion, these observations demonstrated that targeting KIF4A can inhibit glioma progression. With further research, WZ-3146, a small molecule inhibitor of KIF4A, could be combined with other molecular targeted drugs to cooperatively inhibit glioma progression.

Abstract Background Patient involvement is crucial to the success of kidney transplants. This study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) toward postoperative self-management among kidney transplant recipients. Methods A web-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Ruijin Hospital (Shanghai, China) between March 24, 2023, and April 15, 2023 in kidney transplant recipients. A questionnaire was designed to collect data about the characteristics of the participants and their KAP toward postoperative self-management. KAP scores were calculated based on participants' responses, using predefined scoring criteria tailored to evaluate each dimension of KAP effectively. Results A total of 483 valid questionnaires were collected, including 189 (39.13%) participants aged between 46 and 60 years. The mean score of knowledge, attitude and practice were 23.44 ± 4.87 (possible range: 0–28), 43.59 ± 2.65 (possible range: 10–50), 52.52 ± 4.64 (possible range: 0–58), respectively. Background: Hyperglycemia is common after cardiac arrest and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CA/CPR). More importantly, it is associated with a worse neurological outcome after CA/CPR. Acetate has been proven to be of great value to reprogram glucose metabolism in the whole body. Nevertheless, the impact of acetate on hyperglycemia and neurological outcomes after CA/CPR remains largely unexplored. Methods: Glucose metabolism-related parameters were examined to assess the changes of glucose metabolism in our CA/CPR model. Survival and neurological function were measured after return of spontaneous circulation. Acetate supplementation was achieved by gavage to assess the impact of acetate on CA/CPR-induced hyperglycemia. Proteomics investigation of the changes in proteins of the CA1 region were performed to explore the differences of protein expression. The correlation between acetate supplementation and improvement of neurological outcomes after CA/CPR was elucidated by Serpina3n over-expression and knockdown in CA1 region. Results: CA/CPR induces hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, glucose intolerance, and insulin resistance with upregulation of Serpina3n in CA1 region. Acetate supplementation could attenuate hyperglycemia, reduce protein levels of Serpina3n in CA1 region, and improves neurological outcomes after CA/CPR. Mechanistically, the acetate-dependent improvement of neurological outcomes after CA/CPR and attenuation of CA/CPR-induced hyperglycemia were correlated with the down-regulation of Serpina3n in CA1 region. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that acetate supplementation improves neurological outcomes of CA/CPR mice by maintaining glucose homeostasis in the whole body and suppression of Serpina3n expression in CA1 region.

ABSTRACT Background and Purpose Basilar artery (BA) tortuosity is closely associated with posterior circulation infarction (PCI) and dizziness/unsteadiness. This study aims to determine the relationship between BA tortuosity and the outcome of dizziness and unsteadiness in PCI patients. Method This study prospectively recruited PCI patients presenting with dizziness and unsteadiness. BA tortuosity was diagnosed based on Smoker's criteria. The BA tortuosity index (BATI) was measured from magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) images. Posterior circulation was divided into proximal (medulla oblongata and posterior inferior cerebellar), middle, and distal territories. Symptoms, risk of falls, and quality of life were followed up in 3 months after stroke. Logistic regression was used to identify possible factors associated with the persistence of dizziness and unsteadiness. Results Among 182 PCI patients presenting with dizziness and unsteadiness, 97 (53.3%) had BA tortuosity, including 19 (10.4%) with moderate‐to‐severe BA tortuosity. At the 3‐month follow‐up, 58 (31.9%) patients continued to experience dizziness and unsteadiness, with significantly decreased quality of life and a high risk of falls. Binary logistic regression analysis identified moderate‐to‐severe BA tortuosity (OR, 4.474; 95% CI, 1.591–12.579; p = 0.004) and lesions involving the proximal posterior circulation territory (OR, 2.146; 95% CI, 1.097–4.199; p = 0.026) as risk factors for persistent dizziness and unsteadiness after PCI, while thrombolysis (OR, 0.280; 95% CI, 0.079–0.992; p = 0.049) as a protective factor. BATI (OR, 1.072; 95% CI, 1.028–1.119; p = 0.001) was also independently associated with dizziness and unsteadiness after PCI. Conclusion Prominent BA tortuosity increases the risk of persistent dizziness and unsteadiness after PCI, leading to a high risk of falls and decreased quality of life. This warrants more attention in clinical practice.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to assess the impact of the different concentrations of iodine contrast agents used on the quality of computed tomography (CT) images obtained intraindividually in hepatocellular carcinoma patients.MethodsIn this retrospective study, data from a cohort of 29 patients diagnosed with primary hepatocellular carcinoma who had undergone two preoperative CT-enhanced examinations within a 3-month timeframe were analyzed. Each patient was randomly assigned to receive either a low-concentration contrast agent (300 mg I/mL iohexol) or a high-concentration contrast agent (350 mg I/mL iohexol) for the first scan and the alternative contrast agent for the second scan. CT images of different liver regions of each patient were compared between low-and high-concentration scans using their before-and-after control design. Subjective image quality scores for portal vein images were also assessed.ResultsThe findings of this study indicate that patients in the high-concentration group presented significantly elevated CT values across various anatomical regions, including the liver parenchyma, abdominal aorta, and hepatic portal vein, compared to those in the low-concentration group (p 0.05).ConclusionIn summary, using a high-concentration iodine contrast agent is efficient in enhancing the visual clarity of the liver parenchyma, the aorta, and the portal vein in individuals diagnosed with primary hepatocellular carcinoma.

Ecosystems supply goods and services to humans and are the basis for sustainable development of human society. The study of the supply of ecosystem services and the demand and consumption of ecosystem services by human society, and the analysis of the supply and demand characteristics and flow relationships of ecosystem service flows are of great significance for the management of regional ecosystems and the development of ecological compensation. Taking the Yangtze River Economic Belt as an example, this paper calculates the supply and demand indices of ecosystem services in 2015 and 2020, and determines the ecosystem spatial flow paths and flow volumes from the ecosystem supply area to the demand area based on various methods and models such as the minimum cumulative resistance (MCR) model and distance decay model. The results indicate that 1). In 2015 and 2020, the supply and demand of ecosystem services in the Yangtze River Economic Zone show an increasing trend numerically, and there is spatial heterogeneity in the spatial distribution. In terms of ecosystem service supply per unit area, the midstream region is higher than the upstream and downstream regions. In terms of the demand for ecosystem services per unit area, the downstream is higher than the midstream and upstream. 2). From the supply-demand balance of ecosystem services in the Yangtze River Economic Zone, the midstream region is mainly the area of surplus supply of ecosystem services, and the downstream region is mainly the area of deficit supply. From 2015 to 2020, the number of areas with balanced supply and demand of ecosystem services in the Yangtze River Economic Belt decreases and the number of areas with unbalanced supply and demand increases, which is related to the changes in the level of economic development and land use patterns. 3). The flow of ecosystem services in the Yangtze River Economic Belt shows an increasing trend, from 726.59 billion yuan in 2015 to 1,450.54 billion yuan in 2020, with Jiangxi Province being the main ecosystem service supply area and Zhejiang Province being the main ecosystem service demand area in the Yangtze River Economic Belt.

BackgroundCMRtools is a software package that can be used to measure T2* values to diagnose liver iron overload, however, its accuracy in terms is affected by multiple factors, including goodness-of-fit (R2 value), the number of echo time (TE) images, and the liver iron concentration (LIC). To investigate the effects of the R2 value, the number of TE images, and the LIC on the accuracy of CMRtools software for measuring T2* values to diagnose liver iron overload (LIO).Materials and methodsCMRtools software was used to measure liver T2* values among 108 thalassemia patients via the truncation method, and the R2 values, the number of TE images, and T2* values were recorded. These values were subsequently converted into liver iron concentration (LICT) values. The LICF (derived from MRI-R2/FerriScan) was used as a reference, and the diagnostic accordance rate (DAR) was compared between R2 value subgroups, between TE image number subgroups, and between LIC subgroups.ResultsThe greater the R2 value was, the greater the standardized DAR (SDAR) was (p 0.05). However, the relationship between TE image number subgroups and SDAR was analysed using Spearman’s correlation, and it was found to be positively correlated (rs = 0.729, p = 0.017). The SDAR are not identical between each LIC subgroup (p > 0.05), furthermore, the relationship between LIC subgroup and SDAR was found irrelevant (p = 0.747).ConclusionThe accuracy of CMRtools software for diagnosing LIO in patients with thalassemia can be improved by artificially controlling the number of TE images to be fitted and selecting higher R2 values.

Bumblebees (Bombus terrestris) have been shown to engage in string-pulling behavior to access rewards. The objective of this study was to elucidate whether bumblebees display means-end comprehension in a string-pulling task. We presented bumblebees with two options: one where a string was connected to an artificial flower containing a reward and the other presenting an interrupted string. Bumblebees displayed a consistent preference for pulling connected strings over interrupted ones after training with a stepwise pulling technique. When exposed to novel string colors, bees continued to exhibit a bias towards pulling the connected string. This suggests that bumblebees engage in featural generalization of the visual display of the string connected to the flower in this task. If the view of the string connected to the flower was restricted during the training phase, the proportion of bumblebees choosing the connected strings significantly decreased. Similarly, when the bumblebees were confronted with coiled connected strings during the testing phase, they failed to identify and reject the interrupted strings. This finding underscores the significance of visual consistency in enabling the bumblebees to perform the task successfully. Our results suggest that bumblebees’ ability to distinguish between continuous strings and interrupted strings relies on a combination of image matching and associative learning, rather than means-end understanding. These insights contribute to a deeper understanding of the cognitive processes employed by bumblebees when tackling complex spatial tasks.

Abstract To develop and validate an enhanced CT-based radiomics nomogram for evaluating preoperative metastasis risk of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). One hundred and nine patients with histologically confirmed EOC were retrospectively enrolled. The volume of interest (VOI) was delineated in preoperative enhanced CT images, and 851 radiomics features were extracted. The radiomics features were selected by the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), and the rad-score was calculated using the formula of the radiomics label. A clinical model, radiomics model, and combined model were constructed using the logistic regression classification algorithm. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the models. Seventy-five patients (68.8%) were histologically confirmed to have metastasis. Eleven optimal radiomics features were retained by the LASSO algorithm to develop the radiomic model. The combined model for evaluating metastasis of EOC achieved area under the curve (AUC) values of 0.929 (95% CI 0.8593–0.9996) in the training cohort and 0.909 (95% CI 0.7921–1.0000) in the test cohort. To facilitate clinical use, a radiomic nomogram was built by combining the clinical characteristics with rad-score. The DCA indicated that the nomogram had the most significant net benefit when the threshold probability exceeded 15%, surpassing the benefits of both the treat-all and treat-none strategies. Compared with clinical model and radiomics model, the radiomics nomogram has the best diagnostic performance in evaluating EOC metastasis. The nomogram is a useful and convenient tool for clinical doctors to develop personalized treatment plans for EOC patients.

Abstract Ghost imaging in the time domain allows for reconstructing fast temporal objects using a slow photodetector. The technique involves correlating random or pre-programmed probing temporal intensity patterns with the integrated signal measured after modulation by the temporal object. However, the implementation of temporal ghost imaging necessitates ultrafast detectors or modulators for measuring or pre-programming the probing intensity patterns, which are not available in all spectral regions especially in the mid-infrared range. Here, we demonstrate a frequency downconversion temporal ghost imaging scheme that enables to extend the operation regime to arbitrary wavelengths regions where fast modulators and detectors are not available. The approach modulates a signal with temporal intensity patterns in the near-infrared and transfers the patterns to an idler via difference-frequency generation in a nonlinear crystal at a wavelength where the temporal object can be retrieved. As a proof-of-concept, we demonstrate computational temporal ghost imaging in the mid-infrared with operating wavelength that can be tuned from 3.2 to 4.3 μm. The scheme is flexible and can be extended to other regimes. Our results introduce new possibilities for scan-free pump-probe imaging and the study of ultrafast dynamics in spectral regions where ultrafast modulation or detection is challenging such as the mid-infrared and THz regions.

It is a practically significant issue to overcome the low efficiency and the short action time of Al–Ti–B master alloy for the grain refinement of aluminum alloys. In this paper, the phase relationship of the Al–Ti–B–Ce system, the effect of rare earth elements on the evolution of the morphology of the refining phases TiB2 and Al3Ti, and the effect of the refiners on the microstructure and properties of the 6111 alloy are investigated. The experimental results show that the addition of rare earths introduces the rare earth phase Ti2Al20Ce into Al–Ti–B. The rare earth phase acts as an effective protective shell, reduces the free energy of Al3Ti, prevents further movement at the Solid/Liquid interface, and inhibits the aggregation and growth of the Al3Ti phase. By adsorbing on the surface of the TiB2 phase, the rare earth reduces the surface energy and size of the TiB2 phase, thus reducing the possibility of agglomeration. The fine and dispersed refining phase results in more effective nucleation sites in the melt, which can maintain grain refining for a long time and has better anti-fading effect. Therefore, the grain refiner Al–5Ti–B + Ce can effectively refine the grain of 6111 alloy, reduce the grain refinement fading shortcoming, and improve the strength and ductility of 6111 aluminum alloy.

In the present study, pre-deformation at liquid nitrogen temperature (77 K) was applied to introduce twins into Ti–Mo alloys with different contents of molybdenum. The microstructural evolution and mechanical properties with different cryogenic pre-deformation amounts (from 0 to 9 %) were characterized and analyzed. The results show that the twinning activities and the evolution of twinning systems are mainly influenced by β phase stability and cryogenic pre-deformation amount. After cryogenic pre-deformation, the primary and secondary twinning of {332}twins are observed in Ti–12Mo and Ti–15Mo alloys but absent in Ti–20Mo alloy. With the cryogenic pre-deformation amounts increasing, the width and quantity of twins increase constantly. Moreover, {112}twinning is activated in Ti–15Mo alloy pre-deformed by 6 % and 9 %. Twins and high-density dislocations induced by cryogenic pre-deformation cause a significant enhancement in strength of all these three alloys. However, the effect of cryogenic pre-deformation on the elongation of alloys is complicated. For Ti–12Mo alloys, the yield strength increases monotonically (from 527 to 778 MPa) with the increase of cryogenic pre-deformation reduction, while the elongation is completely opposite (from 47 to 20 %). For Ti–15Mo alloys, the optimal matching of strength and ductility is achieved when the amount of cryogenic pre-deformation is 6 %, with a tensile strength of 815 MPa and an elongation of 24 %. Compared with the other two alloys, Ti–20Mo alloy gets a smaller increase in strength and a slight decrease in elongation with the amount of cryogenic pre-deformation increasing.

Compact and adaptable CRISPR-Cas systems enable genome engineering applications in various contexts via high-efficiency delivery. The adeno-associated virus (AAV) is a widely used delivery system. One of the most compact type II-C Cas9 orthologs—CjCas9, derived from Campylobacter jejuni, is particularly appealing for AAV delivery. However, the editing efficiency of CjCas9 limits its applications. In this study, we used structure-guided protein engineering to improve the editing efficiency of CjCas9. Subsequently, we developed a miniature transcriptional activator (LDE-CjCas9-VPR) and base editors engineered from CjCas9 (LDE-CjABE and LDE-CjCBE). LDE-CjABE effectively induced genome editing in human and mouse cells. Through AAV delivery, LDE-CjABE enhanced the on-target editing efficiency, and off-target editing was not detected in the mouse retina. Therefore, the compact size and high editing efficiency of LDE-CjCas9 broadens the target scope of transcription activation and base editing toolsets for therapeutic applications.

Non-starch polysaccharides are major bioactive components in chestnuts, and can serve as water-soluble polysaccharides with potential prebiotic properties. This study aims to establish an in vitro digestion and fermentation model to reveal the digestive and fermentative characteristics of Non-starch polysaccharides from chestnut kernels (NSPCK). The results indicated that under simulated digestion, NSPCK was partially digested in gastric juice but remained significantly undigested in saliva and intestinal juice, demonstrating considerable resilience against hydrolysis. After digestion, NSPCK still exhibited stable rough, lamellar, and porous structure and maintained strong antioxidant capacity. Animal experiments revealed positive effects of NSPCK on blood lipid level, and colon tissue of mice. Moreover, NSPCK enhanced the accumulation of short-chain fatty acids during fermentation, particularly acetic acid, propionic acid, and butyric acid. Furthermore, NSPCK intervention increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, and at the same time reduced that of harmful bacteria such as Enterococcus.

BackgroundTo evaluate the causal relationship between abdominal multi-organ iron content and PD risk using publicly available genome-wide association study (GWAS) data.MethodsWe conducted MR analysis to assess the effects of iron content in various abdominal organs on PD risk, followed by reverse analysis. Additionally, MVMR analysis evaluated the independent effects of organ-specific iron content on PD. We utilized genetic variation data from the UK Biobank, including liver iron content (n = 32,858), spleen iron content (n = 35,324), and pancreas iron content (n = 25,617), as well as summary-level data for Parkinson’s disease from the FinnGen (n = 218,473) and two other large GWAS datasets of European populations (First dataset n = 480,018; Second dataset n = 2,829). The primary MR analysis used the inverse variance-weighted (IVW) method, confirmed by MR-Egger and weighted median methods. Sensitivity analysis was performed to address potential pleiotropy and heterogeneity. Observational cohort results were validated through replication cohort analysis, followed by meta-analysis.ResultsIVW analysis revealed a causal relationship between increased liver iron content and elevated risk of PD (OR = 1.27; 95% CI: 1.05–1.53; p = 0.015). No significant causal relationship was observed between spleen (OR = 1.00; 95% CI: 0.76–1.32; p = 0.983) and pancreatic (OR = 0.93; 95% CI: 0.72–1.20; p = 0.573) iron content and increased risk of PD. Meta-analysis of GWAS data for PD from three different sources using the random-effects IVW method showed a statistically significant causal relationship between liver iron content and the occurrence of PD (OR = 1.17, 95% CI: 1.01–1.35; p = 0.012).ConclusionThis study presents evidence from Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis indicating a significant causal link between increased liver iron content and a higher risk of Parkinson’s disease (PD). These findings suggest that interventions targeting body iron metabolism, particularly liver iron levels, may be effective in preventing PD.

IntroductionStrategically managing livestock grazing in arid regions optimizes land use and reduces the damage caused by overgrazing. Controlled grazing preserves the grassland ecosystem and fosters sustainability despite resource limitations. However, uneven resource distribution can lead to diverse grazing patterns and land degradation, particularly in undulating terrains.MethodsIn this study, we developed a herbivore foraging algorithm based on a resource selection function model to analyze foraging distribution patterns, predict the probability of foraging, and identify the determinants of foraging probability in cattle. The study area was a complex desert landscape encompassing dunes and interdunes. Data on cattle movements and resource distribution were collected and analyzed to model and predict foraging behavior.ResultsOur findings revealed that cattle prefer areas with abundant vegetation in proximity to water sources and avoid higher elevations. However, abundant resource availability mitigated these impacts and enhanced the role of water points, particularly during late grazing periods. The analysis showed that available resources primarily determine foraging distribution patterns and lessen the effects of landforms and water distance on patch foraging.DiscussionThe results suggest that thoughtful water source placement and the subdivision of pastures into areas with varied terrain are crucial for sustainable grazing management. By strategically managing these factors, land degradation can be minimized, and the ecological balance of grassland ecosystems can be maintained. Further research is needed to refine the model and explore its applicability in other arid regions.

Abstract Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes multi-organ damage, which includes hepatic dysfunction, as observed in over 50% of COVID-19 patients. Angiotensin I converting enzyme (peptidyl-dipeptidase A) 2 (ACE2) is the primary receptor for SARS-CoV-2 entry into host cells, and studies have shown the presence of intracellular virus particles in human hepatocytes that express ACE2, but at extremely low levels. Consequently, we asked if hepatocytes might express receptors other than ACE2 capable of promoting the entry of SARS-CoV-2 into cells. To address this question, we performed a genome-wide CRISPR-Cas9 activation library screening and found that Asialoglycoprotein receptor 1 (ASGR1) promoted SARS-CoV-2 pseudovirus infection of HeLa cells. In Huh-7 cells, simultaneous knockout of ACE2 and ASGR1 prevented SARS-CoV-2 pseudovirus infection. In the immortalized THLE-2 hepatocyte cell line and primary hepatic parenchymal cells, both of which barely expressed ACE2, SARS-CoV-2 pseudovirus could successfully establish an infection. However, after treatment with ASGR1 antibody or siRNA targeting ASGR1, the infection rate significantly dropped, suggesting that SARS-CoV-2 pseudovirus infects hepatic parenchymal cells mainly through an ASGR1-dependent mechanism. We confirmed that ASGR1 could interact with Spike protein, which depends on receptor binding domain (RBD) and N-terminal domain (NTD). Finally, we also used Immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy to verify that SARS-CoV-2 could infect primary hepatic parenchymal cells. After inhibiting ASGR1 in primary hepatic parenchymal cells by siRNA, the infection efficiency of the live virus decreased significantly. Collectively, these findings indicate that ASGR1 is a candidate receptor for SARS-CoV-2 that promotes infection of hepatic parenchymal cells.

Abstract Morphing attacks (MAs) pose a substantial security threat to the Automatic Border Control (ABC) system. While a few morphing attack detection (MAD) methods have been proposed, the face morphing accomplice's facial restoration has not received sufficient attention. Due to the inability to foresee the morphing factor used for a particular morphed image, selecting the appropriate de‐morphing factor becomes a challenging problem in the restoration of the accomplice's facial image. If the morphing factor cannot be chosen reasonably, achieving the desired restoration effect is difficult. Therefore, this paper presents an adaptive de‐morphing factor framework (ADFF) architecture for restoring the accomplice's facial image. By exploiting the morphed images stored in the electronic passport system and the real‐time captured criminal's images, ADFF can effectively restore the accomplice's facial image. Experimental results and analysis show that ADFF can significantly reduce the security threats of MAs on ABC.

Vegetation evolution (VEGE) is a newly proposed meta-heuristic algorithm (MA) with excellent exploitation but relatively weak exploration capacity. We thus focus on further balancing the exploitation and the exploration of VEGE well to improve the overall optimization performance. This paper proposes an improved Q-learning based VEGE, and we design an exploitation archive and an exploration archive to provide a variety of search strategies, each archive contains four efficient and easy-implemented search strategies. In addition, online Q-Learning, as well as ε-greedy scheme, are employed as the decision-maker role to learn the knowledge from the past optimization process and determine the search strategy for each individual automatically and intelligently. In numerical experiments, we compare our proposed QVEGE with eight state-of-the-art MAs including the original VEGE on CEC2020 benchmark functions, twelve engineering optimization problems, and wireless sensor networks (WSN) coverage optimization problems. Experimental and statistical results confirm that the proposed QVEGE demonstrates significant enhancements and stands as a strong competitor among existing algorithms. Abstract Objective The aim of this study was to explore the associations between different body mass index (BMI) levels and different lung function impairment (LFI) in Chinese people aged over 40 years. Methods We used a multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling method to investigate 3000 residents aged over 40 years from 5 areas in Hubei province of China in 2019-20. The data on questionnaire, physical measurements, and spirometry of the participants were collected. The associations of different BMI levels with different LFI were analyzed using multivariate logistic regressions after complex weighting. The spirometry data were analyzed using one-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA), and post-hoc was performed using the least significance difference (LSD)-t test. Results A total of 2860 subjects were included. The prevalence (95%CI) of obstructive lung disease (OLD), restrictive lung disease (RLD), mixed lung disease (MLD), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), COPD mild, and COPD moderate/severe/very severe were 24.1% (95% CI: 22.2–26.2), 11.6% (95% CI: 10.3–12.9), 4.0% (95% CI: 3.3–4.8), 12.6% (95% CI: 11.0-14.1), 7.2% (95% CI: 6.0-8.4), and 5.3% (95% CI: 4.3–6.4) respectively. Abstract Background Glioma is one of the leading types of brain tumor, but few etiologic factors of primary glioma have been identified. Previous observational research has shown an association between viral infection and glioma risk. In this study, we used Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to explore the direction and magnitude of the causal relationship between viral infection and glioma. Methods We conducted a two-sample bidirectional MR analysis using genome-wide association study (GWAS) data. Summary statistics data of glioma were collected from the largest meta-analysis GWAS, involving 12,488 cases and 18,169 controls. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with exposures were used as instrumental variables to estimate the causal relationship between glioma and twelve types of viral infections from corresponding GWAS data. In addition, sensitivity analyses were performed. Results After correcting for multiple tests and sensitivity analysis, we detected that genetically predicted herpes zoster (caused by Varicella zoster virus (VZV) infection) significantly decreased risk of low-grade glioma (LGG) development (OR = 0.85, 95% CI: 0.76–0.96, P = 0.01, FDR = 0.04). No causal effects of the other eleven viral infections on glioma and reverse causality were detected. Conclusions This is one of the first and largest studies in this field. We show robust evidence supporting that genetically predicted herpes zoster caused by VZV infection reduces risk of LGG. The findings of our research advance understanding of the etiology of glioma.

In arid Africa, it is unclear how the transition from grassland to cropland affects CO2 fluxes and whether these effects are climate-dependent. From November 2019 to March 2020 (dry season), we studied autotrophic (Ra) and heterotrophic (Rh) soil respiration. At highlands, grazing land (1.18 ± 0.13 µmol m−2 s−1) and teff croplands (1.36 ± 0.14 µmol m−2 s−1) had the lowest Rh, while acacia decurrens plantations (1.94 ± 0.19 µmol m−2 s−1) were the largest. When compared to teff (2.08 ± 0.20 µmol m−2 s−1) and khat (1.73 ± 0.24 µmol m−2 s−1), grazing land in the midland had a lower Rh (1.18 ± 0.13 µmol m−2 s−1). Ra on teff (1.51 ± 0.27 µmol m−2 s−1) was substantially (P < 0.05) greater than on grazing land (1.08 ± 0.32 µmol m−2 s−1) in the highlands. Grazing lands (1.54 ± 0.21 µmol m−2 s−1) have a considerably (P < 0.05) greater Ra than farmlands (teff, 0.20 ± 0.07 µmol m−2 s−1; groundnut, 0.09 ± 0.03 µmol m−2 s−1) in lowlands. Growing teff in the highlands and midlands will result in higher CO2 fluxes into the atmosphere. However, in-depth research is needed to implement effective land management that reduces CO2 emissions.

Guidance signage systems (GSSs) play a large role in pedestrian navigation for public buildings. A vulnerable GSS can cause wayfinding troubles for pedestrians. In order to investigate the robustness of GSSs, a complex network-based GSS robustness analysis framework is proposed in this paper. First, a method that can transform a GSS into a guidance service network (GSN) is proposed by analyzing the relationships among various signs, and signage node metrics are proposed to evaluate the importance of signage nodes. Second, two network performance metrics, namely, the level of visibility and guidance efficiency, are proposed to evaluate the robustness of the GSN under various disruption modes, and the most important signage node metrics are determined. Finally, a multi-objective optimization model is established to find the optimal weights of these metrics, and a comprehensive evaluation method is proposed to position the critical signage nodes that should receive increased maintenance efforts. A case study was conducted in a subway station and the GSS was transformed into a GSN successfully. The analysis results show that the GSN has scale-free characteristics, and recommendations for GSS design are proposed on the basis of robustness analysis. The signage nodes with high betweenness centrality play a greater role in the GSN than the signage nodes with high degree centrality. The proposed critical signage node evaluation method can be used to efficiently identify the signage nodes for which failure has the greatest effects on GSN performance.

In this paper, we demonstrate a method of measuring the flexural elastic modulus of ceramics at an intermediate (~millimeter) scale at high temperatures. We used a picosecond laser to precisely cut microbeams from the location of interest in a bulk ceramic. They had a cross-section of approximately 100 μm × 300 μm and a length of ~1 cm. They were then tested in a thermal mechanical analyzer at room temperature, 500 °C, 800 °C, and 1100 °C using the four-point flexural testing method. We compared the elastic moduli of high-purity Al2O3 and AlN measured by our method with the reported values in the literature and found that the difference was less than 5% for both materials. This paper provides a new and accurate method of characterizing the high-temperature elastic modulus of miniature samples extracted from representative/selected areas of bulk materials.

Accurately evaluating the buoyancy and stability of damaged ships, particularly the flow rate of the water inflow through damaged openings, is of great significance for ship rescue and emergency repair. A three-dimensional simplified model of inflow for a ship’s damaged side bulkheads is established using the shear stress transport k-epsilon and volume of fluid (VOF) models by STAR-CCM+. Moreover, the flow rates of water inflow through damaged openings with different shapes, characteristic sizes, and central depths are calculated. Furthermore, the corresponding discharge coefficients are obtained, and the relevant rules are summarized. It was found that the influence of water depth on the coefficient is minimal in these work conditions, but from the perspective of the damaged opening’s characteristic dimensions and shape, the variation in the coefficient is more pronounced. Overall, the triangular opening has a higher coefficient than the circular opening, which in turn is higher than that of the square-damaged opening, and the coefficient decreases as the size of the opening increases. Lastly, empirical formulas for two different methods are provided. The research provides a reference for the rescue repair and buoyancy stability assessment of damaged ships.

Abstract El Niño‐Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is the most dominant interannual signal of climate variability and profoundly affects river flooding globally, especially in East Asia. However, ENSO also has ∼2,000 and ∼1,000‐year cycles, but due to the lack of flood records with sufficient length, little is known about the ENSO's impact on floods at these millennial timescales. Here we test this in the middle‐lower Yangtze River by reconstructing the first Holocene flood record with optically stimulated luminescence and 14C ages of flood deposits. We find the periods with high flooding probability generally correspond with intervals of weakened solar activity. Importantly, the flood record displays 2,000 and 1,000‐year cycles similar to the ENSO record, and band‐pass filter results show the two records are synchronous at these bands. Our results reveal a persistent control of ENSO on millennial‐scale hydroclimatic variability in the Yangtze basin and likely other basins.

Abstract Tumor Metabolism is strongly correlated with prognosis. Nevertheless, the prognostic and therapeutic value of metabolic-associated genes in BCa patients has not been fully elucidated. First, in this study, metabolism-related differential expressed genes DEGs with prognostic value in BCa were determined. Through the consensus clustering algorithm, we identified two molecular clusters with significantly different clinicopathological features and survival prognosis. Next, a novel metabolism-related prognostic model was established. Its reliable predictive performance in BCa was verified by multiple external datasets. Multivariate Cox analysis exhibited that risk score were independent prognostic factors. Interestingly, GSEA enrichment analysis of GO, KEGG, and Hallmark gene sets showed that the biological processes and pathways associated with ECM and collagen binding in the high-risk group were significantly enriched. Notely, the model was also significantly correlated with drug sensitivity, immune cell infiltration, and immunotherapy efficacy prediction by the wilcox rank test and chi-square test. Based on the 7 immune infiltration algorithm, we found that Neutrophils, Myeloid dendritic cells, M2 macrophages, Cancer-associated fibroblasts, etc., were more concentrated in the high-risk group. Additionally, in the IMvigor210, GSE111636, GSE176307, or our Truce01 (registration number NCT04730219) cohorts, the expression levels of multiple model genes were significantly correlated with objective responses to anti-PD-1/anti-PD-L1 immunotherapy. Finally, the expression of interested model genes were verified in 10 pairs of BCa tissues and para-carcinoma tissues by the HPA and real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR. Altogether, the signature established and validated by us has high predictive power for the prognosis, immunotherapy responsiveness, and chemotherapy sensitivity of BCa.

Abstract Cancer stem-like cells (CSCs) contribute to cancer metastasis, drug resistance and tumor relapse, yet how amino acid metabolism promotes CSC maintenance remains exclusive. Here, we identify that proline synthetase PYCR1 is critical for breast cancer stemness and tumor growth. Mechanistically, PYCR1-synthesized proline activates cGMP-PKG signaling to enhance cancer stem-like traits. Importantly, cGMP-PKG signaling mediates psychological stress-induced cancer stem-like phenotypes and tumorigenesis. Ablation of PYCR1 markedly reverses psychological stress-induced proline synthesis, cGMP-PKG signaling activation and cancer progression. Clinically, PYCR1 and cGMP-PKG signaling components are highly expressed in breast tumor specimens, conferring poor survival in breast cancer patients. Targeting proline metabolism or cGMP-PKG signaling pathway provides a potential therapeutic strategy for breast patients undergoing psychological stress. Collectively, our findings unveil that PYCR1-enhanced proline synthesis displays a critical role in maintaining breast cancer stemness.

Abstract Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are membrane nanoarchitectures generated by cells that carry a variety of biomolecules, including DNA, RNA, proteins and metabolites. These characteristics make them attractive as circulating bioinformatic nanocabinets for liquid biopsy. Recent advances on EV biology and biogenesis demonstrate that EVs serve as highly important cellular surrogates involved in a wide range of diseases, opening up new frontiers for modern diagnostics. However, inefficient methods for EV enrichment, as well as low sensitivity of EV bioinformatic decoding technologies, hinder the use of EV nanocabinet for clinical diagnosis. To overcome these challenges, new EV nanotechnology is being actively developed to promote the clinical translation of EV diagnostics. This article aims to present the emerging enrichment strategies and bioinformatic decoding platforms for EV analysis, and their applications as bioinformatic nanomaterials in clinical settings.

Abstract For bidirectional grid‐connected DC/AC converters, the power flow variation substantially alters the system stability, and especially severs under heavy load. Towards this problem, this paper proposes a novel impedance uniform control method to eliminate the stability degradation under power flow variations, which is achieved by reshaping the converter negative incremental impedance to resistive in the stability fragile mode. The d‐axis voltage perturbation is extracted to dynamically modify the active power current reference. Hence, the system bidirectional damping performance can be simultaneously improved by this dedicated design. Without switching control modes or sacrificing dynamic performance, the grid‐connected converter system can maintain satisfied stability under bidirectional power flow variations. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control method has been validated by both simulations and experiments.

Abstract DNA base editors use deaminases fused to a programmable DNA-binding protein for targeted nucleotide conversion. However, the most widely used TadA deaminases lack post-translational control in living cells. Here, we present a split adenine base editor (sABE) that utilizes chemically induced dimerization (CID) to control the catalytic activity of the deoxyadenosine deaminase TadA-8e. sABE shows high on-target editing activity comparable to the original ABE with TadA-8e (ABE8e) upon rapamycin induction while maintaining low background activity without induction. Importantly, sABE exhibits a narrower activity window on DNA and higher precision than ABE8e, with an improved single-to-double ratio of adenine editing and reduced genomic and transcriptomic off-target effects. sABE can achieve gene knockout through multiplex splice donor disruption in human cells. Furthermore, when delivered via dual adeno-associated virus vectors, sABE can efficiently convert a single A•T base pair to a G•C base pair on the PCSK9 gene in mouse liver, demonstrating in vivo CID-controlled DNA base editing. Thus, sABE enables precise control of base editing, which will have broad implications for basic research and in vivo therapeutic applications.

Abstract Direction‐of‐arrival (DOA) estimation methods for wideband linear frequency modulated (LFM) signals based on fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) typically use the single snapshot vector in the fractional Fourier (FRF) domain. However, the low‐rank problem of the second‐order statistics in the single snapshot vector can decrease the DOA estimation resolution and cause issues in DOA estimation for coherent sources. In order to address these problems, a weighted l1‐norm method based on FRFT is proposed. The proposed method utilises the energy aggregation property of FRFT for LFM signals. This allows for obtaining a single snapshot vector in the FRF domain. Subsequently, a sparse representation DOA estimation model is established by taking advantage of the sparsity of the target distribution in the spatial domain. The DOA estimation is then obtained by minimising the l1‐norm. To further enhance the DOA estimation performance, we construct a matrix by rearranging the elements of the eigenvectors corresponding to the nonzero eigenvalue of the covariance matrix in the FRF domain. The rank of this matrix is equal to the number of sources, ensuring the orthogonality of the subspace obtained by the reconstructed matrix. Finally, a weighted matrix is constructed by exploiting the subspace orthogonality principle to adjust the sparsity penalty of the l1 constraint model. Simulation results demonstrate that our method is capable of achieving high angular resolution and accuracy even at low SNR and can process coherent signals directly.

Abstract Background Gene-environment interactions contribute to metabolic disorders such as diabetes and dyslipidemia. In addition to affecting metabolic homeostasis directly, drugs and environmental chemicals can cause persistent alterations in metabolic portfolios across generations in a sex-specific manner. Here, we use inorganic arsenic (iAs) as a prototype drug and chemical to dissect such sex differences. Methods After weaning, C57BL/6 WT male mice were treated with 250 ppb iAs in drinking water (iAsF0) or normal water (conF0) for 6 weeks and then bred with 15-week-old, non-exposed females for 3 days in cages with only normal water (without iAs), to generate iAsF1 or conF1 mice, respectively. F0 females and all F1 mice drank normal water without iAs all the time. Results We find that exposure of male mice to 250 ppb iAs leads to glucose intolerance and insulin resistance in F1 female offspring (iAsF1-F), with almost no change in blood lipid profiles. In contrast, F1 males (iAsF1-M) show lower liver and blood triglyceride levels than non-exposed control, with improved glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity. The liver of F1 offspring shows sex-specific transcriptomic changes, with hepatocyte-autonomous alternations of metabolic fluxes in line with the sex-specific phenotypes. The iAsF1-F mice show altered levels of circulating estrogen and follicle-stimulating hormone. Ovariectomy or liver-specific knockout of estrogen receptor α/β made F1 females resemble F1 males in their metabolic responses to paternal iAs exposure. Conclusions These results demonstrate that disrupted reproductive hormone secretion in alliance with hepatic estrogen signaling accounts for the sex-specific intergenerational effects of paternal iAs exposure, which shed light on the sex disparities in long-term gene-environment interactions.

Enzyme-driven micro/nanomotors consuming in situ chemical fuels have attracted lots of attention for biomedical applications. However, motor systems composed by organism-derived organics that maximize the therapeutic efficacy of enzymatic products remain challenging. Herein, swimming proteomotors based on biocompatible urease and human serum albumin are constructed for enhanced antitumor therapy via active motion and ammonia amplification. By decomposing urea into carbon dioxide and ammonia, the designed proteomotors are endowed with self-propulsive capability, which leads to improved internalization and enhanced penetration in vitro. As a glutamine synthetase inhibitor, the loaded l-methionine sulfoximine further prevents the conversion of toxic ammonia into non-toxic glutamine in both tumor and stromal cells, resulting in local ammonia amplification. After intravesical instillation, the proteomotors achieve longer bladder retention and thus significantly inhibit the growth of orthotopic bladder tumor in vivo without adverse effects. We envision that the as-developed swimming proteomotors with amplification of the product toxicity may be a potential platform for active cancer treatment.

Abstract Nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems have gained much attention in the treatment of various malignant tumors during the past decades. However, limited tumor penetration of nanodrugs remains a significant hurdle for effective tumor therapy due to the existing biological barriers of tumoral microenvironment. Inspired by bubble machines, here we report the successful fabrication of biomimetic nanodevices capable of in-situ secreting cell-membrane-derived nanovesicles with smaller sizes under near infrared (NIR) laser irradiation for synergistic photothermal/photodynamic therapy. Porous Au nanocages (AuNC) are loaded with phase transitable perfluorohexane (PFO) and hemoglobin (Hb), followed by oxygen pre-saturation and indocyanine green (ICG) anchored 4T1 tumor cell membrane camouflage. Upon slight laser treatment, the loaded PFO undergoes phase transition due to surface plasmon resonance effect produced by AuNC framework, thus inducing the budding of outer cell membrane coating into small-scale nanovesicles based on the pore size of AuNC. Therefore, the hyperthermia-triggered generation of nanovesicles with smaller size, sufficient oxygen supply and anchored ICG results in enhanced tumor penetration for further self-sufficient oxygen-augmented photodynamic therapy and photothermal therapy. The as-developed biomimetic bubble nanomachines with temperature responsiveness show great promise as a potential nanoplatform for cancer treatment.

Abstract Cancer cell receives extracellular signal inputs to obtain a stem-like status, yet how tumor microenvironmental (TME) neural signals steer cancer stemness to establish the hierarchical tumor architectures remains elusive. Here, a pan-cancer transcriptomic screening for 10852 samples of 33 TCGA cancer types reveals that cAMP-responsive element (CRE) transcription factors are convergent activators for cancer stemness. Deconvolution of transcriptomic profiles, specification of neural markers and illustration of norepinephrine dynamics uncover a bond between TME neural signals and cancer-cell CRE activity. Specifically, neural signal norepinephrine potentiates the stemness of proximal cancer cells by activating cAMP-CRE axis, where ATF1 serves as a conserved hub. Upon activation by norepinephrine, ATF1 potentiates cancer stemness by coordinated trans-activation of both nuclear pluripotency factors MYC/NANOG and mitochondrial biogenesis regulators NRF1/TFAM, thereby orchestrating nuclear reprograming and mitochondrial rejuvenating. Accordingly, single-cell transcriptomes confirm the coordinated activation of nuclear pluripotency with mitochondrial biogenesis in cancer stem-like cells. These findings elucidate that cancer cell acquires stemness via a norepinephrine-ATF1 driven nucleus-mitochondria collaborated program, suggesting a spatialized stemness acquisition by hijacking microenvironmental neural signals.

Abstract Due to various interference factors, a pre-planned assembly scheme and its cycle time can be disturbed, resulting in the failure of product delivery on schedule. However, when assembly data of the production line can be obtained in real time, the balance of the assembly line could be dynamically adjusted in case of experiencing serious interferences to optimize its cycle time in time and improve its production efficiency. Therefore, this paper proposes a dynamic rebalancing framework by integrating real time manufacturing data into a novel serial two-stage adaptive alternate genetic fireworks algorithm for solving a stochastic type-II simple assembly line balancing problem (SSALBP-II). MES (manufacturing execution system) is used to obtain some real time data such as the resource status, operation information and task information and to judge abnormal phenomenon and the overdue delivery caused by interferences. On this basis, the stochastic type-II simple assembly line balance model is constructed, with a new serial two-stage adaptive alternate genetic fireworks algorithm (STAGFA). This new algorithm can incorporate both genetic algorithm and fireworks algorithm to solve the model according to the transformation of population diversity discrimination index. Through the comparison between STAGFA and other algorithms such as fireworks algorithm, genetic algorithm, other improved intelligent algorithms, it is proved that the STAGFA is effective and superior in solving the assembly line (re)balance problem. Then, the rebalanced scheme verified by simulation is dispatched to control the physical assembly line and realize dynamic rebalancing cycle time effectively.

Abstract In order to improve the accuracy of the parameters needed in the discrete element method (DEM) simulation process of wet-sticky feed raw materials, the JKR contact model in DEM was used to calibrate and verify the physical parameters of wet-sticky feed raw materials. Firstly, the parameters that have a significant effect on the angle of repose were screened using a Plackett–Burman design, and the screened parameters were: MM rolling friction coefficient, MM static friction coefficient, and JKR surface energy. Then, the three screened parameters were selected as the influencing factors and the accumulation angle of repose was selected as evaluating indicator; thus, the performance optimization experiments were carried out with the quadratic orthogonal rotation design. Taking the experimentally measured angle of repose value of 54.25°as the target value, the significance parameters were optimized, and the optimal combination was obtained : MM rolling friction factor was 0.21, MM static friction factor was 0.51, and JKR surface energy was 0.65. Finally, the angle of repose and SPP tests were compared under the calibrated parameters. The results showed that the relative error of experimental and simulated tests in angle of repose was 0.57%, and the compression displacement and compression ratio of the experimental and simulated tests in SPP were 1.01% and 0.95%, respectively, which improved the reliability of the simulated results. The research findings provide a reference basis for simulation study and optimal design of related equipment for feed raw materials.

Within the context of mounting competition faced by Hollywood movies in the global cinema market, particularly in emerging markets, this paper examines the influence of review disagreements and cultural capital on the cultural discount of imported Hollywood blockbusters in China's movie market. Using a dataset of 652 movies from the U.S. spanning 1994–2019, we find that review disagreements between U.S. and Chinese consumers exacerbate the cultural discount on imported Hollywood movies in China. However, cultural capital, measured by the accumulated revenue of specific imported movie genres in China, effectively mitigates this discount. We also observe a reduction in the discount for movie genres with fewer language barriers. Accounting for endogeneity due to reverse causality and selection bias, we identify a significant structural break in 2012. In the post-2012 era, collaboration involving China's censorship, quota rules, and film-production laws has improved the market mechanism and cultural capital accumulation, enhancing the performance of imported Hollywood movies in China. Minority movies, characterized by being less mainstream and commercial, are more sensitive to review disagreements, while cultural capital plays a greater role in mitigating the discount for mainstream Hollywood movies. These findings have significant implications for professionals involved in the distribution and screening of Hollywood movies in China.

ABSTRACTParcel-level farmland information contains rich spatial distribution and boundary details, which is crucial for digital agriculture and agricultural resource surveys. However, the spatial complexity and heterogeneity of features resulting from high resolution makes it difficult to obtain parcel-level information quickly and accurately. In addition, existing methods do not sufficiently take into account the spatial topological information, particularly for blurred boundaries. Here, we develop a multi-task network model to extract plot-level cropland information. Specifically, the model consists of a cascaded multi-task network with integrated semantic and edge detection, a refinement network with fixed edge local connectivity, and an integrated fusion model. To validate the performance of the model, two typical tests were conducted in Denmark (Europe) and Chongqing (Asia) with high-resolution remote sensing images provided by Sentinel-2 (10 m) and Google Earth (0.53 m) as data sources. The results show that our proposed model outperforms other baseline models and exhibits higher performance. This study is expected to provide important support for the design of new global agricultural information management systems in the future.

Abstract Background Non-invasive recordings of gross neural activity in humans often show responses to omitted stimuli in steady trains of identical stimuli. This has been taken as evidence for the neural coding of prediction or prediction error. However, evidence for such omission responses from invasive recordings of cellular-scale responses in animal models is scarce. Here, we sought to characterise omission responses using extracellular recordings in the auditory cortex of anaesthetised rats. We profiled omission responses across local field potentials (LFP), analogue multiunit activity (AMUA), and single/multi-unit spiking activity, using stimuli that were fixed-rate trains of acoustic noise bursts where 5% of bursts were randomly omitted. Results Significant omission responses were observed in LFP and AMUA signals, but not in spiking activity. These omission responses had a lower amplitude and longer latency than burst-evoked sensory responses, and omission response amplitude increased as a function of the number of preceding bursts. Conclusions Together, our findings show that omission responses are most robustly observed in LFP and AMUA signals (relative to spiking activity). This has implications for models of cortical processing that require many neurons to encode prediction errors in their spike output.

Abstract Background We aimed to investigate the effects of awake prone positioning (APP) in nonintubated adult patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure due to COVID-19. Methods The PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane Central Register databases were searched up to June 1, 2022. All randomized trials investigating the effects of APP were included in the present meta-analysis. The primary outcome was intubation rate, and the secondary outcomes included the length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay, hospital stay, and mortality. Prescribed subgroup analysis was also conducted. Results A total of 10 randomized trials enrolling 2324 patients were ultimately included in the present study. The results indicated that APP was associated with a significant reduction in the intubation rate (OR 0.77, 95% CI 0.63 to 0.93, P = 0.007). However, no differences could be observed in the length of ICU stay or hospitalization or mortality. Subgroup analysis suggested that patients in the ICU settings (OR 0.74, 95% CI 0.60 to 0.91, P = 0.004), patients whose median APP time was more than 4 h (OR 0.77, 95% CI 0.63 to 0.93, P = 0.008), and patients with an average baseline SpO2 to FiO2 ratio less than 200 (OR 0.75, 95% CI 0.61 to 0.92) were more likely to benefit from APP, indicated a significantly reduced intubation rate. Conclusion Based on the current evidence, nonintubated adult patients with hypoxemic respiratory failure due to COVID-19 infection who underwent APP were shown to have a significantly reduced intubation rate. However, no differences in ICU or hospital length of stay or mortality could be observed between APP and usual care. Registration number CRD42022337846

Abstract Traditional direction of arrival (DOA) estimation methods of wideband linear frequency modulated (LFM) signal based on the fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) highly depend on the peak value of LFM signal in the FRFT domain. However, the peak value can be affected by various factors, such as a low signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR), a small number of snapshots, or the large incident angle of signals, which can lead to a decrease in DOA estimation accuracy. To tackle this problem, based on the energy‐concentrated property of LFM signal in the FRFT domain, the DOA estimation is accomplished by adopting the approach of slope fitting for the wideband array signal in the FRFT domain in this study. The method uses the correspondence between the peak position in the FRFT domain and the delay of the received signal on different uniform linear array elements. The least square method based on threshold outlier detection is used for slope fitting. Compared to conventional methods, the method of this study has high accuracy and relatively low complexity in the case of low SNR or large incident angle of the signal without relying on the peak value. The effectiveness of this method is verified by theoretical analysis and Monte‐Carlo simulations. The proposed method provides a new path for DOA estimation of LFM signal.

Abstract Sepsis is a highly heterogeneous syndrome normally characterized by bacterial infection and dysregulated systemic inflammatory response that leads to multiple organ failure and death. Single anti‐inflammation or anti‐infection treatment exhibits limited survival benefit for severe cases. Here a biodegradable tobramycin‐loaded magnesium micromotor (Mg‐Tob motor) is successfully developed as a potential hydrogen generator and active antibiotic deliverer for synergistic therapy of sepsis. The peritoneal fluid of septic mouse provides an applicable space for Mg‐water reaction. Hydrogen generated sustainably and controllably from the motor interface propels the motion to achieve active drug delivery along with attenuating hyperinflammation. The developed Mg‐Tob motor demonstrates efficient protection from anti‐inflammatory and antibacterial activity both in vitro and in vivo. Importantly, it prevents multiple organ failure and significantly improves the survival rate up to 87.5% in a high‐grade sepsis model with no survival, whereas only about half of mice survive with the individual therapies. This micromotor displays the superior therapeutic effect of synergistic hydrogen‐chemical therapy against sepsis, thus holding great promise to be an innovative and translational drug delivery system to treat sepsis or other inflammation‐related diseases in the near future.
