Abstract Quantum key distribution (QKD) enables the transmission of information that is secure against general attacks by eavesdroppers. The use of on-demand quantum light sources in QKD protocols is expected to help improve security and maximum tolerable loss. Semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) are a promising building block for quantum communication applications because of the deterministic emission of single photons with high brightness and low multiphoton contribution. Here we report on the first intercity QKD experiment using a bright deterministic single photon source. A BB84 protocol based on polarisation encoding is realised using the high-rate single photons in the telecommunication C-band emitted from a semiconductor QD embedded in a circular Bragg grating structure. Utilising the 79 km long link with 25.49 dB loss (equivalent to 130 km for the direct-connected optical fibre) between the German cities of Hannover and Braunschweig, a record-high secret key bits per pulse of 4.8 × 10−5 with an average quantum bit error ratio of ~ 0.65% are demonstrated. An asymptotic maximum tolerable loss of 28.11 dB is found, corresponding to a length of 144 km of standard telecommunication fibre. Deterministic semiconductor sources therefore challenge state-of-the-art QKD protocols and have the potential to excel in measurement device independent protocols and quantum repeater applications.

Brachial plexus injury (BPI) with motor neurons (MNs) damage still remain poor recovery in preclinical research and clinical therapy, while cell-based therapy approaches emerged as novel strategies. Previous work of rat skin precursor-derived Schwann cells (SKP–SCs) provided substantial foundation for repairing peripheral nerve injury (PNI). Given that, our present work focused on exploring the repair efficacy and possible mechanisms of SKP-SCs implantation on rat BPI combined with neurorrhaphy post-neurotomy. Results indicated the significant locomotive and sensory function recovery, with improved morphological remodeling of regenerated nerves and angiogenesis, as well as amelioration of target muscles atrophy and motor endplate degeneration. Besides, MNs could restore from oxygen-glucose-deprivation (OGD) injury upon SKP-SCs-sourced secretome treatment, implying the underlying paracrine mechanisms. Moreover, rat cytokine array assay detected 67 cytokines from SKP-SC-secretome, and bioinformatic analyses of screened 32 cytokines presented multiple functional clusters covering diverse cell types, including inflammatory cells, Schwann cells, vascular endothelial cells (VECs), neurons, and SKP-SCs themselves, relating distinct biological processes to nerve regeneration. Especially, a panel of hypoxia-responsive cytokines (HRCK), can participate into multicellular biological process regulation for permissive regeneration milieu, which underscored the benefits of SKP-SCs and sourced secretome, facilitating the chorus of nerve regenerative microenvironment. Furthermore, platelet-derived growth factor-AA (PDGF-AA) and vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) were outstanding cytokines involved with nerve regenerative microenvironment regulating, with significantly elevated mRNA expression level in hypoxia-responsive SKP-SCs. Altogether, through recapitulating the implanted SKP-SCs and derived secretome as niche sensor and paracrine transmitters respectively, HRCK would be further excavated as molecular underpinning of the neural recuperative mechanizations for efficient cell therapy; meanwhile, the analysis paradigm in this study validated and anticipated the actions and mechanisms of SKP-SCs on traumatic BPI repair, and was beneficial to identify promising bioactive molecule cocktail and signaling targets for cell-free therapy strategy on neural repair and regeneration.

Extracellular vesicles from skin-derived precursor Schwann cells (SKP-SC-EVs) promote neurite outgrowth in culture and enhance peripheral nerve regeneration in rats. This study aimed at expanding the application of SKP-SC-EVs in nerve grafting by creating a chitosan/PLGA-based, SKP-SC-EVs-containing tissue engineered nerve graft (TENG) to bridge a 40-mm long sciatic nerve defect in dogs. SKP-SC-EVs contained in TENGs significantly accelerated the recovery of hind limb motor and electrophysiological functions, supported the outgrowth and myelination of regenerated axons, and alleviated the denervation-induced atrophy of target muscles in dogs. To clarify the underlying molecular mechanism, we observed that SKP-SC-EVs were rich in a variety of miRNAs linked to the axon growth of neurons, and miR-30b-5p was the most important among others. We further noted that miR-30b-5p contained within SKP-SC-EVs exerted nerve regeneration-promoting effects by targeting the Sin3a/HDAC complex and activating the phosphorylation of ERK, STAT3 or CREB. Our findings suggested that SKP-SC-EVs-incorporating TENGs represent a novel type of bioactive material with potential application for peripheral nerve repair in the clinic.

This paper aims to conduct tool wear experiments on cutting SiCp/Al composite materials, and methodically reveal the wear evolution of PCD tools in some detail. Based on the experiments, five-tool wear schemes are rationally developed, including free from wear, crater wear, flank wear, combined crater and flank wear, and edge blunting. The accurate equivalent homogeneous material (EHM) turning simulation model of SiCp/Al composite material is constructed and verified using AdvantEdge software. Subsequently, comprehensive studies have been conducted to analyze the effect of various tool wear patterns on the SiCp/Al cutting process. The results indicate that the crater wear of the tool is positively correlated with the radius of curvature of the chip. Additionally, the flank wear of the tool demonstrates a negative correlation with both the thickness and length of the chips. The actual cutting temperature is 11.3% lower compared to the simulated data, whereas the actual cutting forces in the X and Y directions are 16.1% and 13.7% higher, respectively. The flank wear degree of the tool and the edge blunting both remarkably influence the cutting force in the Y direction and the surface residual stress after machining. As the degree of wear increases, the cutting force in the Y direction and the surface residual stress rise, and the penetration layer of the residual stress becomes deeper, which is attributed to the significantly enhanced ploughing effect of the tool. This study provides a valuable reference for predicting the wear status of cutting tools, particularly in machining difficult-to-machine materials.

Background White adipose tissue (WAT) has a key role in maintaining energy balance throughout the body, and their dysfunction take part in the regulation of diabetes mellitus. However, the internal regulatory mechanisms underlying are still unknown. Methods and results We generated adipocyte‐specific FAK KO (FAK‐AKO) mice and investigated their phenotype. The cascade of adipocyte, macrophage in adipocyte tissues, and pancreatic β‐cells were proposed in FAK‐AKO mice and validated by cell line studies using 3T3‐L1, Raw264.7 and Min6. The FAK‐AKO mice exhibited glucose intolerance, reduced adipose tissue mass and increased apoptosis, lipolysis and inflammatory response in adipose tissue. We further demonstrate that adipocyte FAK deletion increases β cell apoptosis and inflammatory infiltrates into islets, which is potentiated if mice were treated with STZ. In the STZ‐induced diabetes model, FAK AKO mice exhibit less serum insulin content and pancreatic β cell area. Moreover, serum pro‐inflammatory factors increased and insulin levels decreased after glucose stimulation in FAK AKO mice. In a parallel vitro experiment, knockdown or inhibition of FAK during differentiation also increased apoptosis, lipolysis and inflammatory in 3T3‐L1 adipocytes, whereas the opposite was observed upon overexpression of FAK. Moreover, coculturing LPS‐treated RAW264.7 macrophages with knockdown FAK of 3T3‐L1 adipocytes increased macrophage pro‐inflammatory response. Furthermore, conditioned medium from above stimulated Min6 cells apoptosis (with or without STZ), whereas the opposite was observed upon overexpression of FAK. Mechanistically, FAK protein interact with TRAF6 in adipocytes and knockdown or inhibition of FAK activated TRAF6/TAK1/NF‐κB signaling, which exacerbates inflammation of adipocytes themselves. Conclusion Adipocyte FAK deletion promotes both adipocyte apoptosis and adipose tissue inflammation. Pro‐inflammatory factors released by the FAK‐null adipose tissue further trigger apoptosis in pancreatic islets induced by the administration of STZ, thereby exacerbating the diabetes mellitus. This study reveals a link between FAK‐mediated adipose inflammation and diabetes mellitus, a mechanism that has not been previously recognized.

ObjectiveSarcopenia is a gradually advancing systemic disorder affecting skeletal muscles, primarily distinguished by diminished muscle mass and functional decline. As of present, a universally accepted diagnostic criterion for sarcopenia has yet to be established. From the perspective of the constitution theory in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the Yin-deficiency constitution is believed to have a significant correlation with the development of sarcopenia. The primary objective of this study was to examine the potential association between sarcopenia and Yin-deficiency constitution.MethodsThe present study is a cross-sectional analysis. The Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) recommended a diagnostic criterion for sarcopenia. A total of 141 participants over 50 years of age were diagnosed with sarcopenia. To determine the constitution of each patient, classification and determination standards were used in traditional Chinese medicine. In this study, a combination of logistic regression and propensity score matching (PSM) was employed to analyze a dataset comprising 1,372 eligible observations. The diagnostic efficacy of the test in distinguishing sarcopenia was assessed through receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis.ResultsThe relationship between Yin-deficiency constitution and sarcopenia was examined using logistic regression analysis. In the crude model, the odds ratio (OR) was found to be 3.20 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.70–6.03). After adjusting for various confounding factors, including gender, sex, 6 m walking test/(m/s), SMI, and maximum grip strength/kg, the OR increased to 9.70 (95% CI: 3.20–69.38). The associations between seven other biased traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) constitutions and sarcopenia were not found to be statistically significant in the fully adjusted model. The propensity score matching (PSM) analysis yielded consistent results with the logistic regression analysis. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed that the AUC of the Yin-deficiency constitution combined with age and gender reached 0.707.ConclusionAmong the nine TCM constitutions examined, the Yin-deficiency constitution demonstrates an independent association with sarcopenia. Yin-deficiency constitution may serve as a potential risk factor for the development of sarcopenia. To establish a causal relationship, further experimental investigations are warranted. The diagnostic performance of sarcopenia is effectively demonstrated by the Yin-deficiency constitution combined with age and gender.

A central question in neural tissue engineering is how the tissue-engineered nerve (TEN) translates detailed transcriptional signals associated with peripheral nerve regeneration into meaningful biological processes. Here, we report a skin-derived precursor-induced Schwann cell (SKP-SC)-mediated chitosan/silk fibroin-fabricated tissue-engineered nerve graft (SKP–SCs-TEN) that can promote sciatic nerve regeneration and functional restoration nearly to the levels achieved by autologous nerve grafts according to behavioral, histological, and electrophysiological evidence. For achieving better effect of neuroregeneration, this is the first time to jointly apply a dynamic perfusion bioreactor and the ascorbic acid to stimulate the SKP-SCs secretion of extracellular matrix (ECM). To overcome the limitation of traditional tissue-engineered nerve grafts, jointly utilizing SKP-SCs and their ECM components were motivated by the thought of prolongating the effect of support cells and their bioactive cues that promote peripheral nerve regeneration. To further explore the regulatory model of gene expression and the related molecular mechanisms involved in tissue engineering-aided peripheral nerve regeneration, we performed a cDNA microarray analysis of gene expression profiling, a comprehensive bioinformatics analysis and a validation study on the grafted segments and dorsal root ganglia tissues. A wealth of transcriptomic and bioinformatics data has revealed complex molecular networks and orchestrated functional regulation that may be responsible for the effects of SKP-SCs-TEN on promoting peripheral nerve regeneration. Our work provides new insights into transcriptomic features and patterns of molecular regulation in nerve functional recovery aided by SKP-SCs-TEN that sheds light on the broader possibilities for novel repair strategies of peripheral nerve injury.

Rice body synovitis (RBS) is a rare disease, especially in children. Rheumatoid disorders and tuberculosis are the first two reasons for the formation of the RB. The diagnosis is mainly based on imaging and histopathological features. Herein, we report three cases of RBS in children diagnosed with congenital synovial chondromatosis, tuberculosis (unconfirmed), and ANA -positive juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Clinical features, radiographic findings, pathophysiology, treatment process, and prognosis were reviewed and documented meticulously to enhance cognition in this population and provide some references for clinicians in diagnosing and treating the disease.

The main purpose of this study is to discuss whether online influencers can improve customer brand attitude and thus increase purchase intention as both of them are important performance indicators in a live show. Drawing on the persuasion theory, the authors aim to investigate the impacts of influencers’ attributes (professionalism, credibility, interactivity and attractiveness) on customers purchase intention from the perspective of attitude toward brand. Data were collected from 233 customers in China where the influencer centered livestreaming e-commerce is enjoying rapid growth. The hypotheses were tested via structural equation modeling. The findings indicate that the influencers’ credibility and attractiveness increase purchase intention directly. Further, customer brand attitude plays a mediating role in the relationship between the influencers’ attributes (attractiveness, credibility, and interactivity) and purchase intention. While, the professionalism improves neither favorable customer brand attitude nor purchase intention. The findings provide theoretical implications for scholars to rethink the role of internet influencers in influencing customer purchase intention.

Abstract Strategies that aim to achieve highly stable lithium metal batteries (LMBs) are extensively explored. To date, the controlled formation of high‐quality inorganic SEI is still quite challenging, which requires a deep understanding and hence the fine‐tuning of solvation chemistry by using functional additives in the electrolyte. In this work, a high amine‐containing 1,2,4,5‐benzenetetramine tetrahydrochloride (BHCL) is developed as a dual‐function electrolyte additive for LMBs. The amine group with a high donor number increases the lithium affinity, while the phenyl group with a strong inductive effect prevents the decomposition of solvents, and the free chloride ions replace anions mediating the formation of the rigid inorganic LiCl‐rich SEI layer. The experimental results corroborate the theoretical findings. The modified Li||Li symmetric battery is stably cycled for over 2500 h at 1 mA cm−2 current density with an overpotential of ≈45 mV. The performances of the Li||Cu and Li||LFP cells are also significantly enhanced. Therefore, this work provides a promising design principle of multifunctional electrolyte additive.

Our previous study found that rat bone marrow–derived neural crest cells (acting as Schwann cell progenitors) have the potential to promote long-distance nerve repair. Cell-based therapy can enhance peripheral nerve repair and regeneration through paracrine bioactive factors and intercellular communication. Nevertheless, the complex contributions of various types of soluble cytokines and extracellular vesicle cargos to the secretome remain unclear. To investigate the role of the secretome and extracellular vesicles in repairing damaged peripheral nerves, we collected conditioned culture medium from hypoxia-pretreated neural crest cells, and found that it significantly promoted the repair of sensory neurons damaged by oxygen-glucose deprivation. The mRNA expression of trophic factors was highly expressed in hypoxia-pretreated neural crest cells. We performed RNA sequencing and bioinformatics analysis and found that miR-21-5p was enriched in hypoxia-pretreated extracellular vesicles of neural crest cells. Subsequently, to further clarify the role of hypoxia-pretreated neural crest cell extracellular vesicles rich in miR-21-5p in axonal growth and regeneration of sensory neurons, we used a microfluidic axonal dissociation model of sensory neurons in vitro, and found that hypoxia-pretreated neural crest cell extracellular vesicles promoted axonal growth and regeneration of sensory neurons, which was greatly dependent on loaded miR-21-5p. Finally, we constructed a miR-21-5p-loaded neural conduit to repair the sciatic nerve defect in rats and found that the motor and sensory functions of injured rat hind limb, as well as muscle tissue morphology of the hind limbs, were obviously restored. These findings suggest that hypoxia-pretreated neural crest extracellular vesicles are natural nanoparticles rich in miRNA-21-5p. miRNA-21-5p is one of the main contributors to promoting nerve regeneration by the neural crest cell secretome. This helps to explain the mechanism of action of the secretome and extracellular vesicles of neural crest cells in repairing damaged peripheral nerves, and also promotes the application of miR-21-5p in tissue engineering regeneration medicine.

Abstract With the rapid urbanization process in China, there has been a significant development of urban underground spaces. The pipe-jacking method has gained popularity in various projects due to its advantages such as short construction period, adaptability to different soil conditions, and minimal excavation disturbance. This study focuses on a tunnel project involving double-hole rectangular pipe-jacking under an expressway. Utilizing FLAC software, a three-dimensional numerical model was created to analyze the impact of double-hole pipe-jacking construction on surface settlement and deformation of the expressway. The simulation results were validated by comparing them with field monitoring data. The study also investigated the impact of different construction parameters, such as excavation sequence and the angle of underpassing the expressway, on surface settlement. Additionally, the surface settlement curve at the slope bottom of the expressway exhibits asymmetric distribution and an offset center in the settlement trough. It is recommended to carry out the construction of double-hole pipe-jacking in the sequence of "big first and then small". Furthermore, when the included angle between the expressway and the jacking axis is 90°, the impact on surface settlement is minimized. This research provides valuable insights for the construction of double-hole pipe-jacking underpass structures in tunnel engineering.

IntroductionPatients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are at a higher risk of developing cancer, particularly hematological malignancies such as lymphoma and leukemia. However, existing studies on this topic that assess cancer incidence following SLE diagnosis are limited. In addition, SLE can be diagnosed after cancer, although such cases in children have been rarely reported.Case reportWe present the case of a 2.6-year-old boy who presented to our institute with fever and abdominal pain. His physical examination revealed a periumbilical mass, which was pathologically diagnosed as Burkitt's lymphoma. Autologous stem cell transplantation was performed to consolidate the effect of chemotherapy and reduce the risk of cancer relapse. He was diagnosed with SLE 5 years later, following the presentation of a fever with rash, positive autoantibodies, decreased complement, and kidney involvement. At the final follow-up, the patient was still alive and showed no recurrence of Burkitt's lymphoma or disease activity of SLE.ConclusionDespite the low frequency of SLE in children with lymphoma, cancer and SLE may be induced by a common mechanism involving B-cell cloning and proliferation. Therefore, hematologists and rheumatologists should be aware of the occurrence of these two conditions during patient follow-up.

Objectives This study aimed to pool the efficacy in bowel movement and explore the change of gut microbiota on adult functional constipated patients after probiotics-containing products treatment.Design Systematic review and meta-analysis.Data sources PubMed, Cochrane Library for published studies and ClinicalTrials.gov for ‘grey’ researches were independently investigated for randomised controlled trials up to November 2022.Eligibility criteria, data extraction and synthesis The intervention was probiotics-containing product, either probiotics or synbiotics, while the control was placebo. The risk of bias was conducted. The efficacy in bowel movement was indicated by stool frequency, stool consistency and Patient Assessment of Constipation Symptom (PAC-SYM), while the change of gut microbiota was reviewed through α diversity, β diversity, change/difference in relative abundance and so on. The subgroup analysis, sensitivity analysis and random-effect meta-regression were conducted to explore the heterogeneity. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment Development and Evaluation was conducted to grade the quality of evidence.Results 17 studies, comprising 1256 participants, were included with perfect agreements between two researchers (kappa statistic=0.797). Compared with placebo, probiotics-containing products significantly increased the stool frequency (weighted mean difference, WMD 0.93, 95% CI 0.47 to 1.40, p=0.000, I²=84.5%, ‘low’), improved the stool consistency (WMD 0.38, 95% CI 0.05 to 0.70, p=0.023, I²=81.6%, ‘very low’) and reduced the PAC-SYM (WMD −0.28, 95% CI: −0.45 to −0.11, p=0.001, I²=55.7%, ‘very low’). In subgroup analysis, synbiotics was superior to probiotics to increase stool frequency. Probiotics-containing products might not affect α or β diversity, but would increase the relative abundance of specific strain.Conclusions Probiotics-containing products, significantly increased stool frequency, improved stool consistency, and alleviated functional constipation symptoms. They increased the relative abundance of specific strain. More high-quality head-to-head randomised controlled trials are needed.

The on-chip integration of single photon and entangled photon emitters such as epitaxially grown semiconductor quantum dots into photonic frameworks is a rapidly evolving research field. GaAs quantum dots offer high purity and a high degree of entanglement due to, in part, exhibiting very small fine structure splitting along with short radiative lifetimes. Integrating strain-tunable quantum dots into nanostructures enhances the quantum optical fingerprint, i.e., radiative lifetimes and coupling of these sources, and allows for on-chip manipulation and routing of the generated quantum states of light. Efficient out-coupling of photons for off-chip processing and detection requires carefully engineered mesoscopic structures. Here, we present numerical studies of highly efficient grating couplers reaching up to over 90% transmission. A 2D Gaussian mode overlap of 83.39% for enhanced out-coupling of light from within strain-tunable photonic nanostructures for free-space transmission and single-mode fiber coupling is shown. The photon wavelength under consideration is 780 nm, corresponding to the emission from GaAs quantum dots resembling the 87Rb D2 line. The presented numerical study helps implement such sources for applications in complex quantum optical networks.

In several disciplines, such as X-ray astronomy, synchrotron radiation facilities, X-ray microscopy, and X-ray lithograph, X-ray-focusing mirrors are crucial parts. They make it possible for scientists and researchers to execute cutting-edge nanoscale imaging techniques, analyze the structure and properties of materials, and explore the cosmos. However, controlling deformation during the manufacturing process is crucial to ensure the production of high-quality components. The strong bonding force of the film is one of the primary causes of mirror distortion while making X-ray-focusing mirrors. As a release layer, diamond-like carbon (DLC) was coated between Au and NiP alloy to lessen distortion during the demolding process for X-ray optic mirrors. In this investigation, we first used density functional theory (DFT) simulation to determine the binding energies of NiP–Au and C–Au. The interactions were then observed by high resolution transmission electron microscopy and scanning transmission electron microscopy. When Au is deposited at low energy and room temperature on a NiP substrate, the phenomena of diffusion layer creation at the interface can be seen for the first time in direct observation. The 6.8 nm diffusion layer between Au and NiP, which causes the high binding energy, is primarily responsible for the increased adhesion strength. Molecular dynamic simulation and tensile testing were used to compute and assess the adhesion strength. According to the findings, Au–C's adhesion strength was 96.4% lower than Au–NiP's. After the DLC release layer was introduced, the deformation of mirror shape as measured by a spot measurement method of optical performance significantly improved. In addition, we created and successfully implemented the 20 nm DLC release layer for the project.

Abstract The prognosis with pancreatic cancer is among the poorest of any human cancer. One of the important factors is the tumor hypoxia. Targeting tumor hypoxia is considered a desirable therapeutic option. However, it has not been translated into clinical success in the treatment of pancreatic cancer. With enhanced cytotoxicities against hypoxic pancreatic cancer cells, BE-43547A2 (BE) may serve as a promising template for hypoxia target strategy. Here, based on rational modification, a BE prodrug (NMP-BE) is encapsulated into sulfonated azocalix[5]arene (SAC5A) to generate a supramolecular dual hypoxia-responsive complex NMP-BE@SAC5A. Benefited from the selective load release within cancer cells, NMP-BE@SAC5A markedly suppresses tumor growth at low dose in pancreatic cancer cells xenograft murine model without developing systemic toxicity. This research presents a strategy for the modification of covalent compounds to achieve efficient delivery within tumors, a horizon for the realization of safe and reinforced hypoxia target therapy using a simple approach.

The objective of this research is to achieve biologically autonomous control by utilizing a whole-brain network model, drawing inspiration from biological neural networks to enhance the development of bionic intelligence. Here, we constructed a whole-brain neural network model of Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans), which characterizes the electrochemical processes at the level of the cellular synapses. The neural network simulation integrates computational programming and the visualization of the neurons and synapse connections of C. elegans, containing the specific controllable circuits and their dynamic characteristics. To illustrate the biological neural network (BNN)’s particular intelligent control capability, we introduced an innovative methodology for applying the BNN model to a 12-legged robot’s movement control. Two methods were designed, one involving orientation control and the other involving locomotion generation, to demonstrate the intelligent control performance of the BNN. Both the simulation and experimental results indicate that the robot exhibits more autonomy and a more intelligent movement performance under BNN control. The systematic approach of employing the whole-brain BNN for robot control provides biomimetic research with a framework that has been substantiated by innovative methodologies and validated through the observed positive outcomes. This method is established as follows: (1) two integrated dynamic models of the C. elegans’ whole-brain network and the robot moving dynamics are built, and all of the controllable circuits are discovered and verified; (2) real-time communication is achieved between the BNN model and the robot’s dynamical model, both in the simulation and the experiments, including applicable encoding and decoding algorithms, facilitating their collaborative operation; (3) the designed mechanisms using the BNN model to control the robot are shown to be effective through numerical and experimental tests, focusing on ‘foraging’ behavior control and locomotion control.

Due to the poor thermal stability of the lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6) electrolyte system, commercial lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are difficult for normal operation at high temperatures above 55 °C. The limitation of the LiPF6 electrolyte severely limits the practical application of LIBs under extremely high temperatures conditions. Here, a high-concentration electrolyte based on lithium bis(fluorosufonyl)imide (LiFSI) as electrolyte salt and ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC) as solvent is proposed, which possesses superior electrochemical stability and thermal stability. The LiCoO2/graphite (Gr) pouch battery with the LiFSI high-concentration electrolyte (5.0 mol L−1 (M)) has been shown excellent cycling performance even at 100 °C, an impressive capacity retention of 87.7 % can be still maintained after 100 cycles at 1.0 C-rate. The superior high temperatures performance is mainly attributed to the unique solvated structure, along with the robust solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) rich in anions. This work presents an effective strategy for promoting the development of high-temperature lithium-ion batteries.

Low-viscosity slickwater fracturing fluids are a crucial technology for the commercial development of shallow shale gas. However, in deep shale gas formations with high pressure, a higher sand concentration is required to support fractures. Linear gel fracturing fluids and crosslinked gel fracturing fluids have a strong sand-carrying capacity, but the drag reduction effect is poor, and it needs to be pre-prepared to decrease the fracturing cost. Slick water fracturing fluids have a strong drag reduction effect and low cost, but their sand-carrying capacity is poor and the fracturing fluid sand ratio is low. The research and development of viscous slick water fracturing fluids solves this problem. It can be switched on-line between a low-viscosity slick water fracturing fluid and high-viscosity weak gel fracturing fluid, which significantly reduces the cost of single-well fracturing. A polyacrylamide drag reducer is the core additive of slick water fracturing fluids. By adjusting its concentration, the control of the on-line viscosity of fracturing fluid can be realized, that is, ‘low viscosity for drag reduction, high viscosity for sand-carrying’. Therefore, this article introduces the research and application status of a linear gel fracturing fluid, crosslinked gel fracturing fluid, and slick water fracturing fluid for deep shale gas reservoirs, and focuses on the research status of a viscous slick water fracturing fluid and viscosity-controllable polyacrylamide drag reducer, with the aim of providing valuable insights for the research on water-based fracturing fluids in the stimulation of deep shale gas reservoirs.

Cold stress severely restricts growth and development, reduces yields, and impairs quality in tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum). Amylase-associated starch degradation and soluble sugar accumulation have been implicated in adaptation and resistance to abiotic stress. Here, we report a β-amylase (BAM) gene, SlBAM3, which plays a central role in tomato cold tolerance. The expression of SlBAM3 was triggered by cold stress. SlBAM3 knockout using the CRISPR/Cas9 system retarded starch degradation and reduced soluble sugar accumulation in tomato plants, eventually attenuating cold tolerance. Expression analysis revealed that the SlBAM3 transcript level was boosted by MeJA. Furthermore, MYC2, an essential component of the JA signaling pathway, could bind to the SlBAM3 promoter and directly activate SlBAM3 transcription, as revealed by yeast one-hybrid and dual LUC assays. In addition, the suppression of MYC2 resulted in increased starch accumulation, decreased soluble sugar content, and reduced tolerance to cold stress in tomato plants. Taken together, these findings demonstrate that JA positively regulates β-amylase-associated starch degradation through the MYC2-SlBAM3 module in tomato during cold stress. The results of the present work expand our understanding of the mechanisms underlying BAM gene activation and starch catabolism under cold stress. The regulatory module of SlBAM3 can be further utilized to breed tomato cultivars with enhanced cold tolerance.

Optimizing the performance of alkali-activated slag backfill grout (ASBG) is crucial for engineering applications. Fluidity and 28 d unconfined compressive strength (28 d UCS) are the two most important performances and multi-objective optimization is existed. In this research, the response surface method (RSM) for experiment design and model regression, non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II) for optimization, and entropy-based Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) for decision-making were implemented. The strength formation mechanism of the optimal ASBG was investigated via microstructure evolution. The results show that the quadratic RSM models for fluidity and 28 d UCS exhibit excellent predictive fitting capabilities, with the determination coefficients of 0.9713 and 0.9588 respectively. NSGA-II coupled with entropy-based TOPSIS determined the optimal mix proportion with water-binder ratio of 0.877, binder-sand ratio of 1.000 and alkali dosage of 4.138%. The porosities at 1–28 d decrease from 10.06% to 2.62%. And the mode of microstructure evolution can be divided into two stages according to the probability distribution index and fractal dimension. In early stage, probability distribution index and fractal dimension decreased from 0.9974 to 0.4833 and 1.2498 to 1.2022. This indicated that the number of the small pores decreased and the pore boundary transformed into the softer one as the irregular plate-like GGBS dissolved. In the later stage, probability distribution index and fractal dimension increased from 0.4833 to 1.4732 and 1.2022 to 1.3273, indicating a relatively denser microstructure with fewer large pores formed.

Abstract. Background:. Sarcopenia is an age-related progressive skeletal muscle disorder involving the loss of muscle mass or strength and physiological function. Efficient and precise AI algorithms may play a significant role in the diagnosis of sarcopenia. In this study, we aimed to develop a machine learning model for sarcopenia diagnosis using clinical characteristics and laboratory indicators of aging cohorts. Methods:. We developed models of sarcopenia using the baseline data from the West China Health and Aging Trend (WCHAT) study. For external validation, we used the Xiamen Aging Trend (XMAT) cohort. We compared the support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF), eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGB), and Wide and Deep (W&D) models. The area under the receiver operating curve (AUC) and accuracy (ACC) were used to evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of the models. Results:. The WCHAT cohort, which included a total of 4057 participants for the training and testing datasets, and the XMAT cohort, which consisted of 553 participants for the external validation dataset, were enrolled in this study. Among the four models, W&D had the best performance (AUC = 0.916 ± 0.006, ACC = 0.882 ± 0.006), followed by SVM (AUC =0.907 ± 0.004, ACC = 0.877 ± 0.006), XGB (AUC = 0.877 ± 0.005, ACC = 0.868 ± 0.005), and RF (AUC = 0.843 ± 0.031, ACC = 0.836 ± 0.024) in the training dataset. Meanwhile, in the testing dataset, the diagnostic efficiency of the models from large to small was W&D (AUC = 0.881, ACC = 0.862), XGB (AUC = 0.858, ACC = 0.861), RF (AUC = 0.843, ACC = 0.836), and SVM (AUC = 0.829, ACC = 0.857). In the external validation dataset, the performance of W&D (AUC = 0.970, ACC = 0.911) was the best among the four models, followed by RF (AUC = 0.830, ACC = 0.769), SVM (AUC = 0.766, ACC = 0.738), and XGB (AUC = 0.722, ACC = 0.749). Conclusions:. The W&D model not only had excellent diagnostic performance for sarcopenia but also showed good economic efficiency and timeliness. Tetratricopeptide repeat (TPR) proteins play numerous roles in plant growth and development by mediating protein–protein interactions in biological systems by binding to peptide ligands. Although genome-wide analyses of the TPR gene family in other species have been performed, its evolution and function in Cucurbitaceae remain unclear. In this study, 144 TPR genes from 11 genomes of eight Cucurbitaceae species with a heterogeneous distribution on the chromosomes were characterized. Based on the homology between Cucurbitaceae and Arabidopsis, the TPR genes were divided into four groups, and the evolutionary relationships of the Benincaceae and Cucurbitaceae tribes were also represented in a phylogenetic tree. Using the ‘DHL92′ genome as a reference, an integrated chromosome map was obtained containing 34 loci, 4 of which were common to the Cucurbitaceae. Cis-regulatory element analysis showed that these elements are essential for melon development and responses to light, phytohormones, and various stresses. CmTPR tissue- and development-specific expression analysis revealed differential expression patterns under normal growth conditions. Furthermore, the CmTPR genes responded to various abiotic stressors. Overall, this study offers insights into the evolutionary history of the TPR gene family in Cucurbitaceae and provides valuable information for elucidating the potential role of CmTPR genes during development and under different stresses in melon.

SiCp/Al composite materials are widely used in various industries such as the aerospace and the electronics industries, primarily due to their excellent material properties. However, their machinability is significantly weakened due to their unique characteristics. Consequently, efficient and precise machining technology for SiCp/Al composite materials has become a crucial research area. By conducting a comprehensive analysis of the relevant research literature from both domestic and international sources, this study examines the processing mechanism, as well as the turning, milling, drilling, grinding, special machining, and hybrid machining characteristics, of SiCp/Al composite materials. Moreover, it summarizes the latest research progress in composite material processing while identifying the existing problems and shortcomings in this area. The aim of this review is to enhance the machinability of SiCp/Al composite materials and promote high-quality and efficient processing methods.

Abstract Background: Sarcopenia is an age-related skeletal muscle disorder that involves a loss of muscle mass or strength and physiological function. Skeletal muscle deteriorates in both quantity and quality. The endocrine system is an important regulator of muscle metabolism. Therefore, we aimed to explore the relationship between biochemical markers and muscle mass in sarcopenia. Methods: We used the AWGS 2014 as the diagnostic criteria for sarcopenia, considering both the loss in muscle mass, muscle strength and physical performance. A total of 2837 elderly female participants over 50 years of age from the West China Health and Aging Trend (WCHAT) study were included. Insulin, glucose, 25(OH)VD, procalcitonin, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, total protein, prealbumin, albumin, thyroid-stimulating hormone, free triiodothyronine, free tetraiodothyronine, triglycerides, cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein, very low-density lipoprotein, cortisol, and follicle-stimulating hormone were measured. Based on the findings of univariate analysis, multivariate regression and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were established. Abstract Background Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD) is a self-limiting and benign disease characterized by cervical lymphadenopathy and fever. Although KFD should be made differentially diagnosed from infectious, autoimmune, and malignant diseases, it sometimes occurs in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and can be complicated with macrophage activation syndrome (MAS). However, it is rare that KFD is the initial manifestation of SLE and to be complicated with MAS. Case presentation A 9.6-year-old girl presented with high-grade fever, double-side cervical lymphadenopathy with mild pain of one week, leukopenia, alopecia, and rash on the cheek. During hospitalization, laboratory investigations showed positive antinuclear antibody (ANA), low complement 3 (C3), and low complement 4 (C4). Imaging investigations showed pleural and pericardial effusion. A 10.3-year-old girl presented with intermittent high-grade fever, double-sided cervical lymphadenopathy with obvious pain of 1-month duration, and discoid lesion on the cheek. During hospitalization, laboratory investigations showed positive ANA, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia with positive Coombs’ test, low C3, and positive Smith antibodies. Both cases were diagnosed with KFD using lymph node biopsy, simultaneously fulfilling the diagnostic criteria of SLE. Subsequently, the two girls became complicated with MAS, followed by interstitial lung disease and neuropsychiatric lupus, respectively. Both patients benefited from high-dose methylprednisolone pulse therapy combined with intravenous cyclophosphamide. Conclusions More attention should be paid to differential diagnosis, especially SLE, in children diagnosed with KFD. In addition, children with SLE who presented with KFD as the initial manifestation seem to have a higher risk of developing MAS and experiencing organ involvement.

Abstract Background Pulmonary complications of rheumatic diseases may cause functional impairment and increase mortality. However, reports regarding detection of lung involvement in children with treatment-naive, newly diagnosed rheumatic diseases are scarce. Herein, we aimed to describe the characteristics of such patients and explore the association between lung involvement and rheumatic disease. Methods From January 2019 to June 2021, 48 pediatric patients with treatment-naive, newly diagnosed rheumatic diseases at Department of Rheumatology and Immunology, Shanghai Children's Medical Center, School of Medicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University were included with pulmonary function tests (PFTs) and high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) findings, and 51 age-matched healthy controls were examined based on PFTs. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were used to investigate the clinical characters and laboratory parameters associated with lung involvement in these patients. Abstract Background Heart rate, acidosis, consciousness, oxygenation, and respiratory rate (HACOR) have been used to predict noninvasive ventilation (NIV) failure. However, the HACOR score fails to consider baseline data. Here, we aimed to update the HACOR score to take into account baseline data and test its predictive power for NIV failure primarily after 1–2 h of NIV. Methods A multicenter prospective observational study was performed in 18 hospitals in China and Turkey. Patients who received NIV because of hypoxemic respiratory failure were enrolled. In Chongqing, China, 1451 patients were enrolled in the training cohort. Outside of Chongqing, another 728 patients were enrolled in the external validation cohort. Results Before NIV, the presence of pneumonia, cardiogenic pulmonary edema, pulmonary ARDS, immunosuppression, or septic shock and the SOFA score were strongly associated with NIV failure. These six variables as baseline data were added to the original HACOR score. The AUCs for predicting NIV failure were 0.85 (95% CI 0.84–0.87) and 0.78 (0.75–0.81) tested with the updated HACOR score assessed after 1–2 h of NIV in the training and validation cohorts, respectively. A higher AUC was observed when it was tested with the updated HACOR score compared to the original HACOR score in the training cohort (0.85 vs. 0.80, 0.86 vs. 0.81, and 0.85 vs. 0.82 after 1–2, 12, and 24 h of NIV, respectively; all p values 14 after 1–2 h of NIV, the rate of NIV failure was 12.4%, 38.2%, 67.1%, and 83.7%, respectively. Conclusions The updated HACOR score has high predictive power for NIV failure in patients with hypoxemic respiratory failure. It can be used to help in decision-making when NIV is used.

Abstract Atomic layer deposition in solution (sALD) is just emerging as a technology for the preparation of thin films. Unlike ALD from the gas phase, it allows for mild reaction conditions in a solvent phase and at room temperature, thus decreasing the energy requirements of the process and widening the range of accessible precursor molecules. In this work, the deposition of thin films of titania on silica is investigated using titanium(IV) isopropoxide (TTIP) and water as precursors, which are alternatingly brought into contact with the support in a home‐built plug flow reactor. The mechanism of covalent grafting of the precursor to the surface, subsequent hydrolysis, and reaction to a layer of titania are investigated in detail using magic angle spinning (MAS) solid‐state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. TTIP preferentially reacts with Q2 groups of condensed silica. 2D solid‐state NMR spectra allow to clearly show the successful grafting of this compound to the support by the appearance of a characteristic signal at −107 ppm, which is tentatively attributed to silicon nuclei in a SiOTi bond, and to reveal the presence of titanol groups on the emerging TiO2 film.

Background Tumor-associated tertiary lymphoid structures (TLSs) are functional immune-responsive niches that are not fully understood in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).Methods Fluorescent multiplex immunohistochemistry was performed on sequential sections of surgically resected tumor tissues from 380 PDAC patients without preoperative treatment (surgery alone (SA)) and 136 patients pretreated with neoadjuvant treatment (NAT). Multispectral images were processed via machine learning and image processing platforms, inForm V.2.4 and HALO V.3.2; TLS regions were segmented, and the cells were identified and quantified. The cellular composition and immunological properties of TLSs and their adjacent tissues in PDAC were scored and compared, and their association with prognosis was further examined.Results Intratumoral TLSs were identified in 21.1% (80/380) of patients in the SA group and 15.4% (21/136) of patients in the NAT group. In the SA group, the presence of intratumoral TLSs was significantly associated with improved overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival. The existence of intratumoral TLSs was correlated with elevated levels of infiltrating CD8+T, CD4+T, B cells and activated immune cells in adjacent tissues. A nomogram model was generated with TLS presence as a variable, which successfully predicted PDAC patient OS in an external validation cohort (n=123). In the NAT group, samples exhibited a lower proportion of B cells and a higher proportion of regulatory T cells within intratumoral TLSs. Additionally, these TLSs were smaller in size, with a lower overall maturation level and reduced immune cell activation, and the prognostic value of TLS presence was insignificant in the NAT cohort.Conclusion Our study systematically revealed the cellular properties and prognostic values of intratumoral TLSs in PDAC and described the potential impact of NAT on TLS development and function.

BackgroundPre-clinical studies have shown that metformin reduces intratumoral hypoxia, improves T-cell function, and increases sensitivity to PD-1 blockade, and metformin exposure has been associated with improved clinical outcomes in various types of cancer. However, the impact of this drug in diabetic melanoma patients has not yet been fully elucidated.MethodsWe reviewed 4,790 diabetic patients with stage I-IV cutaneous melanoma treated at the UPMC-Hillman Cancer Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center between 1996-2020. The primary endpoints included recurrence rates, progression free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) with and without metformin exposure. Tabulated variables included BRAF mutational status, immunotherapy (IMT) by type, and incidence of brain metastases.ResultsThe five-year incidence of recurrence in stage I/II patients was significantly reduced with metformin exposure (32.3% vs 47.7%, p=0.012). The five-year recurrence rate for stage III patients was also significantly reduced (58.3% vs 77.3%, p=0.013) in the metformin cohort. OS was numerically increased in nearly all stages exposed to metformin, though this did not reach statistical significance. The incidence of brain metastases was significantly lower in the metformin cohort (8.9% vs 14.6%, p=0.039).ConclusionThis is the first study to demonstrate significantly improved clinical outcomes in diabetic melanoma patients exposed to metformin. Overall, these results provide further rationale for ongoing clinical trials studying the potential augmentation of checkpoint blockade with metformin in advanced melanoma.

In recent years, the prominence of conformance control technology in heavy oil steam flooding has significantly increased in oilfield development. However, the high-temperature demands of heavy oil steam flooding require more resilient plugging agents. Resin-based plugging agents, known for their exceptional temperature resistance and strength, have emerged as a viable solution within this domain. Yet, they face issues like rapid curing at high temperatures and limited sealing reach. Thus, we introduce a novel approach: epoxy resin gel (EHRB), consisting of epoxy resin (ER) as the curing agent, urotropine (HMTA) and pyrocatechol (RO) as cross-linking agents, and n-butyl glycidyl ether (BGE) as a diluent. EHRB gels at 130 °C in 5.4 h, with curing commencing at 160 °C, extending resin curing time and expanding the sealing radius. This study assessed EHRB’s performance and high-temperature stability through displacement experiments, TGA, and DSC analysis. The results indicate that the EHRB has low viscosity, high compressive strength, and minimal mass loss at high temperatures. At 260 °C, the mass loss is less than 15%. The plugging rate exceeds 90%, and it can withstand steam flushing for over 6 PV. Additionally, it demonstrates a 17% improvement in EOR. EHRB demonstrates outstanding capabilities in proficient channel control for heavy oil steam flooding, offering vital technical support for conformance control in this challenging environment.

Temperature is a critical environmental factor that plays a vital role in plant growth and development. Temperatures below or above the optimum ranges lead to cold or heat stress, respectively. Temperature stress retards plant growth and development, and it reduces crop yields. Jasmonates (JAs) are a class of oxylipin phytohormones that play various roles in growth, development, and stress response. In recent years, studies have demonstrated that cold and heat stress affect JA biosynthesis and signaling, and JA plays an important role in the response to temperature stress. Recent studies have provided a large body of information elucidating the mechanisms underlying JA-mediated temperature stress response. In the present review, we present recent advances in understanding the role of JA in the response to cold and heat stress, and how JA interacts with other phytohormones during this process.

Choerospondias axillaris compound gel jelly was made with wild jujube, compound gum and white granulated sugar as the main raw materials. Orthogonal experiments were carried out on the basis of single factor experiments, and sensory score, separated water ratio, hardness, elasticity and chewability were used as quality evaluation indexes. The test results showed that the best formulation of Choerospondias axillaris compound gel jelly was: The content of compound glue was 1.2% (k-carrageenan:konjac gum:locust bean gum=3:2:3), the pulp content of Choerospondias axillaris was 10%, the content of white granulated sugar was 10%. Under this formula, the Choerospondias axillaris compound gel jelly had a milky white color and a slightly reddish orange color. It had the unique flavor of Choerospondias axillaris, with delicate taste and soft hardness. The sensory score, separated water ratio, hardness, elasticity and chewability were 89, 2.69%, 3024.156 g, 0.890 mm and 1107.223 mJ, respectively.

Lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries are regarded as promising candidates for high‐energy storage devices because of their high theoretical energy density (2600 Wh kg−1). However, their practical applications are still hindered by a multitude of key challenges, especially the shuttle effect of soluble lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) and the sluggish sulfur redox kinetics. To address these challenges, varieties of catalytic materials have been exploited to prevent the shuttle effect and accelerate the LiPSs conversion. Recently, molybdenum‐based (Mo‐based) catalytic materials are widely used as sulfur host materials, modified separators, and interlayers for Li–S batteries. They include the Mo sulfides, diselenides, carbides, nitrides, oxides, phosphides, borides, and metal/single atoms/clusters. Here, recent advances in these Mo‐based catalytic materials are comprehensively summarized, and the current challenges and prospects for designing highly efficient Mo‐based catalytic materials are highlighted, with the aim to provide a fundamental understanding of the sulfur reaction mechanism, and to guide the rational design of cathode catalysts for high‐energy and long‐life Li–S batteries.

BackgroundFor patients who have contraindications to or have failed checkpoint inhibitors, chemotherapy remains the standard second-line option to treat non-oncogene-addicted advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of S-1-based non-platinum combination in advanced NSCLC patients who had failed platinum doublet chemotherapy.MethodsDuring January 2015 and May 2020, advanced NSCLC patients who received S-1 plus docetaxel or gemcitabine after the failure of platinum-based chemotherapy were consecutively retrieved from eight cancer centers. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS). The secondary endpoint was overall response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), overall survival (OS), and safety. By using the method of matching-adjusted indirect comparison, the individual PFS and OS of included patients were adjusted by weight matching and then compared with those of the docetaxel arm in a balanced trial population (East Asia S-1 Trial in Lung Cancer).ResultsA total of 87 patients met the inclusion criteria. The ORR was 22.89% (vs. 10% of historical control, p < 0.001) and the DCR was 80.72%. The median PFS and OS were 5.23 months (95% CI: 3.91–6.55 months) and 14.40 months (95% CI: 13.21–15.59 months), respectively. After matching with a balanced population in the docetaxel arm from the East Asia S-1 Trial in Lung Cancer, the weighted median PFS and OS were 7.90 months (vs. 2.89 months) and 19.37 months (vs. 12.52 months), respectively. Time to start of first subsequent therapy (TSFT) from first-line chemotherapy (TSFT > 9 months vs. TSFT ≤ 9 months) was an independent predictive factor of second-line PFS (8.7 months vs. 5.0 months, HR = 0.461, p = 0.049). The median OS in patients who achieved response was 23.5 months (95% CI: 11.8–31.6 months), which was significantly longer than those with stable disease (14.9 months, 95% CI: 12.9–19.4 months, p < 0.001) or progression (4.9 months, 95% CI: 3.2–9.5 months, p < 0.001). The most common adverse events were anemia (60.92%), nausea (55.17%), and leukocytopenia (33.33%).ConclusionsS-1-based non-platinum combination had promising efficacy and safety in advanced NSCLC patients who had failed platinum doublet chemotherapy, suggesting that it could be a favorable second-line treatment option.

Objective To explore the clinical value of autoantibody-based subgroup framework and the trend of autoantibody fluctuation in juvenile-onset SLE (JSLE).Methods Eighty-seven patients with JSLE were retrospectively collected and divided into subgroups via a two-step cluster based on the status of nine autoantibodies (double-stranded-DNA (dsDNA), nucleosome, histone, ribosomal P protein, Smith (Sm), u1-ribonucleoprotein (RNP), Sjögren’s syndrome antigen A (SSA)/Ro52, SSA/Ro60, Sjögren’s syndrome antigen B (SSB)/La). The final model selected in this study was based on adequate goodness of fit of the Silhouette coefficient and clinical interpretability. Clinical manifestations, organ involvements and disease activity were compared among the subgroups. Fluctuation in autoantibody status was also collected and analysed. Flare-free survival rates of the patients with positive/negative seroconversion and patients without seroconversion were studied by the Kaplan-Meier method and compared using a log-rank test.Results Two clusters were identified: subgroup 1 (positive anti-Sm/RNP group) and subgroup 2 (negative anti-Sm/RNP group). There were more lupus nephritis (LN) and neuropsychiatric SLE (NPSLE) cases in subgroup 1 than in subgroup 2. Patients in subgroup 1 exhibited higher SLE Disease Activity Index scores compared with those in subgroup 2. Furthermore, anti-ribosomal P protein (61.1%), anti-nucleosome (58.3%) and anti-dsDNA (54%) were most commonly positive autoantibodies. A progressive decrease in the frequency of patients with positive results was demonstrated during the follow-up years. The decrease was notable for anti-dsDNA, anti-nucleosome and anti-ribosomal P protein (remaining 27.27%, 38.89% and 45.00% positive in the fifth year, respectively). While for those negative at baseline diagnosis, the decrease in the frequency of negative results was progressive but modest. IntroductionThe initial presentations of childhood-onset primary Sjögren’s syndrome (C-pSS) vary, making diagnosis challenging. We aimed to improve the diagnosis and evaluation of C-pSS by summarizing its clinical and laboratory features.MethodsA total of 49 patients with C-pSS between July 2015 and August 2022 in the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology of Shanghai Children's Medical Centre were enrolled in this study. Their clinical manifestations and laboratory examinations of these patients were compared based on the presence or absence of thrombocytopenia and parotitis and whether the immunological markers, including anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA), rheumatoid factor (RF), anti-Ro52/SSA antibodies (anti-SSA/Ro52), anti-Ro60/SSA antibodies (anti-SSA/Ro60), and anti-Ro/SSB antibodies (anti-SSB), were positive.ResultsThe mean age at C-pSS diagnosis was 10.34 ± 3.45 years, and the ratio of boys to girls was 1:6. In the thrombocytopenia group, parotitis (P = 0.044), organ involvement except for hematology (P = 0.002), positive anti-SSB (P = 0.004), and positive RF (P = 0.001) were less frequently observed. Complement C4 (P = 0.038) and white blood cells (P = 0.002) levels decreased and increased significantly, respectively. Anti-SSB (P = 0.010) and RF (P = 0.004) positivity were independent potential protective factors against thrombocytopenia in patients with C-pSS. In the parotitis group, higher ANA titers (P = 0.027), higher focus scores on labial gland biopsy (P = 0.024), and positive RF (P = 0.001), anti-SSA/Ro60 (P = 0.003), and anti-SSB (P = 0.001) were observed more frequently. Furthermore, positive anti-SSB (P = 0.012) and positive RF (P = 0.028) were independent risk factors for parotitis in patients with C-pSS. The hemoglobin level was significantly lower in patients with positive anti-SSA/Ro52 and positive anti-SSA/Ro60 results (P = 0.022 and P = 0.029, respectively), while immunoglobulin G level was significantly higher in patients in the same group (P = 0.048 and P = 0.007, respectively).ConclusionsPositive anti-SSB and positive RF values may be independent potential protective factors of thrombocytopenia in patients with C-pSS. In contrast, positive anti-SSB and positive RF were independent risk factors of parotitis in patients with C-pSS. More studies are needed to reveal the diagnostic role and pathogenic mechanism of immunological markers in C-pSS.

Aiming at the problems of manual feature extraction and poor generalization ability of model in traditional circuit breaker fault diagnosis technology, a circuit breaker fault diagnosis method based on improved one-dimensional convolutional neural network is proposed. Firstly, the input feature sequence is adaptively weighted by self-attention mechanism to highlight the weight of important information; Secondly, 1  1 convolution layer and global average pooling layer are used to replace the full connection layer, which reduces the model training parameters, improves the training efficiency and prevents the phenomenon of over-fitting. Aiming at the problem of small number of data samples, the data is enhanced by Generative Adversarial Network. After adding the generated data to the original data, the accuracy of fault identification is further improved. The experimental results show that this method can effectively and accurately identify different fault types of circuit breaker, and verify the feasibility of its engineering application.

Peripheral nerve fibroblasts play a critical role in nerve development and regeneration. Our previous study found that peripheral nerve fibroblasts have different sensory and motor phenotypes. Fibroblasts of different phenotypes can guide the migration of Schwann cells to the same sensory or motor phenotype. In this study, we analyzed the different effects of peripheral nerve-derived fibroblasts and cardiac fibroblasts on motoneurons. Compared with cardiac fibroblasts, peripheral nerve fibroblasts greatly promoted motoneuron neurite outgrowth. Transcriptome analysis results identified 491 genes that were differentially expressed in peripheral nerve fibroblasts and cardiac fibroblasts. Among these, 130 were significantly upregulated in peripheral nerve fibroblasts compared with cardiac fibroblasts. These genes may be involved in axon guidance and neuron projection. Three days after sciatic nerve transection in rats, peripheral nerve fibroblasts accumulated in the proximal and distal nerve stumps, and most expressed brain-derived neurotrophic factor. In vitro, brain-derived neurotrophic factor secreted from peripheral nerve fibroblasts increased the expression of β-actin and F-actin through the extracellular regulated protein kinase and serine/threonine kinase pathways, and enhanced motoneuron neurite outgrowth. These findings suggest that peripheral nerve fibroblasts and cardiac fibroblasts exhibit different patterns of gene expression. Peripheral nerve fibroblasts can promote motoneuron neurite outgrowth.

With the rapid integration of distributed energy resources (DERs), distribution utilities are faced with new and unprecedented issues. New challenges introduced by high penetration of DERs range from poor observability to overload and reverse power flow problems, under-over-voltages, maloperation of legacy protection systems, and requirements for new planning procedures. Distribution utility personnel are not adequately trained, and legacy control centers are not properly equipped to cope with these issues. Fortunately, distribution energy resource management systems (DERMSs) are emerging software technologies aimed to provide distribution system operators (DSOs) with a specialized set of tools to enable them to over-come the issues caused by DERs and to maximize the benefits of the presence of high penetration of these novel resources. However, as DERMS technology is still emerging, its definition is vague and can refer to very different levels of software hierarchies, spanning from decentralized virtual power plants to DER aggregators and fully centralized enterprise systems (called utility DERMS). Although they are all frequently simply called DERMS, these software technologies have different sets of tools and aim to provide different services to different stake-holders. This paper explores how these different software technologies can complement each other, and how they can provide significant benefits to DSOs in enabling them to successfully manage evolving distribution networks with high penetration of DERs when they are integrated together into the control cen-ters of distribution utilities.

Human intelligence has the advantage for making high-level decisions in the remote control of underwater vehicles, while autonomous control is superior for accurate and fast close-range pose adjustment. Combining the advantages of both remote and autonomous control, this paper proposes a visual-aided shared-control method for a semi-autonomous underwater vehicle (sAUV) to conduct flexible, efficient and stable underwater grasping. The proposed method utilizes an arbitration mechanism to assign the authority weights of the human command and the automatic controller according to the attraction field (AF) generated by the target objects. The AF intensity is adjusted by understanding the human intention, and the remote-operation command is fused with a visual servo controller. The shared controller is designed based on the kinematic and dynamic models, and model parameter uncertainties are also addressed. Efficient and stable control performance is validated by both simulation and experiment. Faster and accurate dynamic positioning in front of the target object is achieved using the shared-control method. Compared to the pure remote operation mode, the shared-control mode significantly reduces the average time consumption on grasping tasks for both skilled and unskilled operators.

The eXTP (enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarization) satellite is a prominent X-ray astronomy satellite designed primarily for conducting deep space X-ray astronomical observations. The satellite’s scientific payload consists of X-ray focusing mirrors. In order to fulfill the requirements of weight reduction and enhanced effective area, the thickness of mirrors is reduced to the sub-millimeter range and a multi-layer nested structure is employed. Manufacturing mirrors poses a significant challenge to both their quality and efficiency. The present research investigates the optimal replication process for mandrel ultraprecision machining, polishing, coating, electroforming nickel, and demolding. It analyzes the factors contributing to the challenging separation and the inability to release the mirror shells. Additionally, an automatic demolding device is developed, and the X-ray performance of the replication mirrors is verified. The fabrication process flow of the mirrors was initially introduced. To ensure the easy release of the mirror shells from the mandrels, a layer of diamond-like carbon (DLC) was applied as a release layer between the Au and NiP alloy. The adhesion strength of Au-C was found to be significantly lower than that of Au-NiP, as demonstrated by both molecular dynamic simulation and tensile testing. The development of an automatic demolding device with force feedback has been successfully completed. The reduction in the half-power diameter (HPD) of the mirror from 48 inches to 25 inches is an improvement that surpasses the production target.
